I find it interesting that in most fanfics centered on the Uchiha clan you hardly see them worshiping the Moon Goddess Kaguya (who in canon is a fact that she is their greatest ancestor and I'm sure Zetsu Black must have manipulated his historical documents so that information about Kaguya would be more accessible), but instead, There are more fics where the Uchiha worships Amaterasu.

I understand that there is a strong influence/reference from Shintoism in the characterization of the Uchiha clan, and in Shintoism, Amaterasu is the main goddess and the Uchihas are a clan mainly focused on the Fire element. But. The main power of the Sharingan is illusion - a power strongly related to the moon - and the most powerful illusion jutsu of the Uchiha clan is the Infinite Tsukiyomi which in canon Madara uses the Moon itself as an amplifier for his eye. Anyway, the purpose of this post is to point out that there are few fanfics where the Uchihas worship Kaguya because they recognize her as the Mother of Chakra, and recognize Indra as her descendant 😬 (I imagine that Zetsu Black would portray Hagoromo as the villain of the entire story for the Uchihas and thus, he increases the chances of some committed Uchiha seeking the Rinnegan with more fervor.)

On a related note, I imagine that the Senju clan, bc of Ashura, would be a clan more focused on the Buddhism of the Sage Hagoromo, hence perpetuating their blood feud with the Uchihas.

Uchiha branches (headcanon)

Musashi Uchiha, also known by the nickname Water Boy comes from the civilian branch in a farmer family and thus tends to be underestimate and mocked by his shinobi peers.

Despite his humble origin, Madara immediately saw in him an extraordinary potential. But having the leader's full attention can also be a source of stress. His expectations are higher than the moon.

I haven't read all of the fics from this series, but the ones I have were great! Really fun stuff and a cast of characters that includes ones you don't typically see much in Sakura fanfiction.

AHHH Haunt The Lonely is so good!!! Shisui and Rin are the main ghosts here and I just love the dynamics they have with Sakura. Rin is like an older sister that gives advice and Shisui is Shisui lmao. Lots of meddling from him to ensure that Sakura doesn't get to graduate early, much to her annoyance.

They've lost. Naruto was dead, killed at Kaguya’s hands. Along with him died any illusions of hope that they could win. They couldn’t win, but perhaps they wouldn’t need to. In attempts to stop the Fourth Shinobi War from ever occuring, Sakura is sent back in time to the moment of her birth. Protecting the people she cared about would be much easier if she knew all the facts. OR Where Sakura can see the dead, and Danzō deserves to die.

The whole 'Sakura sees ghosts' thing doesn't come in until much later in the story here. This is another one of those Sakura-centric time travel fics and so of course we have some Danzo hatred going on!! I remember there being some pretty interesting Uchiha clan lore in this fic as well. Plus, another great Shisui and Sakura friendship in These Eyes of Mine.

“My name is Hatake Sakumo, and I’ve been dead for tweleve years.” It seemed fitting that her kekkei genaki would awaken in the cemetery, of all places. OR The Haruno Clan are immigrants, Sakura grows up differently, there are ghosts dogging her every step, and that changes everything.

Not only does Sakura see the ghosts of people like Sakumo and Shisui, but she also ends up as an early graduate! She originally joins a separate team from team 7 and forms close bonds with them, but eventually things seem to fall apart. Sakura then struggles to adjust on team 7. Super interesting story and I'm excited to see where it goes!

Sakura sees ghosts and the only person less pleased about it than her is Kakashi-sensei.

This is a pretty entertaining story imo. Sakura finds out after the fight against Zabuza and Haku that she can, unfortunately, see ghosts. Kakashi is definitely not thrilled with the situation either, but there is some good bonding in here between the two of them! In fact, she even becomes the ancillary leader of team 7.

Haruno Sakura knows Death before she knows anything else. Knowing doesn’t prepare her for Team 7. Unlike what everyone seems to believe, it does not start with seeing dead people. That, actually doesn’t come until much, much later.

Essentially, Sakura is a very weird child who happens to live at shrine/cemetery. Anyway, I really love the style in which this is written. Sakura's friendships are supper interesting as well and I find the fact that she befriends Shino to be so fitting with her character here. Her relationship with the team is also lovely and I hope this gets continued one day!

If Inherited Will of Fire ever gets completed, I will be jumping with joy! Such an awesome fic where the ghosts help Sakura to become another name on Konoha's list of early graduates. The training arc makes me laugh because there's some Mulan references (you'll understand if you read it) lmao. Anyway, her team is genuinely so intriguing because I can already see where the author was going with it and I wish I could read what happens!!!! Also, dw she is still friends with the rookies!

Tobirama is such a great character (so refreshing) and his interactions with Sakura in this are gold! I hope one day Kishimoto will release some side stories about him and other characters from his time as we really don't know that much about them tbh.

Okay, so this isn't very serious just me bugging over the naruto timeline, 100% inspired by this post. There, OP (among other things) argues that Tobirama became Second Hokage and died before Madara left the village. Based on a few different things, but I wanna focus on this panel from chapter 627:

ID: Three Naruto panels where Edo Tensei Tobirama is speaking to Sasuke and Hashirama is pouting in reaction. He says: "Elder brother thought of the village as something that could eliminate the framework of clans... well... not that it ever goes that easily, of course. Elder brother's naiveté... and Uchiha Madara's dangerousness... it was my role as second Hokage to mediate between the two, protect the village and fortify it." End ID.

While it could mean that Tobirama was mediating between Hashirama and Madara during his time as Second Hokage, I think he's referring to their characteristics rather than the people themselves. So, Tobirama had to find a middle ground between "naivety and dangerousness."

A few chapters before this (ch. 619), Tobirama speaks of giving the Uchiha positions within the village that would help prevent a "second" Madara. For me, this is about a second Uchiha rebelling against the village and maybe attacking it like Madara did after he left.

ID: Edo Tensei Hashirama and Tobirama arguing. Hashirama says: "Tobirama! Did I not emphasize to you over and over again not to slight the Uchiha?!" Tobirama answers: "But I gave them positions that they were eminently qualified for! And I believed that even if another Madara were to emerge, he could be dealt with right away! As you well know, Elder brother... the Uchiha are..." End ID.

Now, for the part that made me go looking for all these panels to see if I was making things up in my head or not. From chapter 626 (the one before the first example in this post), here we have Hashirama's flashback of Madara leaving the village. Hashirama wants Madara to stay in the village as his right hand, and Madara counters it by telling him that he suspects "Tobirama will become Hokage" after Hashirama.

ID: Manga page with 6 panels of Madara and Hashirama arguing. Madara starts by saying: "However... it could all be interpreted differently." To Hashirama's confusion, he continues: "Hashirama... do you really think that I don't know anything...?" Hashirama tells him: " You leave Tobirama to me... I can't do this without you... keep working with me as the Hokage's right hand, and as a brother! The villagers will eventually recognize your merits... and then, I'll name you Second Hokage..." Madara says: " I suspect Tobirama will become Hokage after you. And if that happens, the Uchiha will slowly be expunged... knowing this, I reached out to other Uchiha, called upon them to leave and abandon the village... but it seems not one person is willing to come with me." End ID.

So I do think that Tobirama was still alive when Madara left and that he hadn't become Second Hokage yet.

(Just for clarity's sake, I'm only making this post bc this bit stuck with me and I wanted to write down why I thought differently than the og post I mentioned. I do like/agree with other points op made like tobirama dying before hashirama, I just don't think it happened before Madara left.)

Bonus point (more Uchiha centric), it's pretty neat to consider (read maybe headcanon) that the Founding period began with Izuna's death and ended with Madara's.

Coincidentally, they are all assigned to Hatake Kakashi’s genin team since they were only average academy students and don’t have parents to complain about their children being failed via bell test, which happened with the last three teams he was assigned. What follows is three fools trying to hide their knowledge from each other and their jounin-sensei while desperately trying to reach chunin fast enough that Kakashi can teach the actual team seven, and a jounin-sensei who is very confused by his three genin but has so few (read: zero) points of reference for normal twelve year olds raised during peacetime that he can’t tell if they’re weird or not.

fucking hilarious. i'm not usually into multi-inserts but oh my GOD these three are disasters, and kakashi is just so confused. a series of assumptions from all three PLUS kakashi convincing them all that they're Normal.

I never thought finding anti konoha fics would be this hard (really good ones, with Sasuke-centric without having any idolization of It*chi, or try to convince us and convince Sasuke that the Massacre was necessary (or not that important), or diminish it completely; or that aren't Sak*ra harem with all the Uchihas; or SasuH*na; or that doesn't portray Sasuke as being a terrible jerk who mistreats poor little Team 7; etc.) - 😩

It's really hard to find any fic that focuses specifically on Sasuke saying "fuck Konoha! bye". It's sad that his trauma is always downplayed so he can return to the village as if all those years of chasing to get justice for his clan ended with him regretting pursuing his justice. (and killing It*chi, but in my opinion It*chi deserved it bc he chose the path of gen*cide). I know there are some lost gems on ao3, but it's so few.

edit1: I'm actually going through a phase where I just want to read a fic or several fics where everyone criticizes and hates Konoha and DOES something about it. (like destroying or setting it on fire). You know Konoha deserves it.

I'm currently looking for Sasuke centric bc he deserves his moment to properly vent his anger on that village and also bc I've read countless fics where Naruto turns against the village.

Which then could do a similar Anko version in an AU in which Aoba isn’t around to be ANBU Crow—although maybe that’s too repetitive of the Uzume one. Maybe it’s just that, in a world where Konoha trusts her (maybe because she sleuths around and is integral in ripping Danzo out of his hole in the ground, thereby saving the Uchiha clan who now have way more political clout, or at the very least, are back to the clout that they had before?) Anko becomes an ANBU and she gets Crow and Aoba—because I will give up ANBU training buddies only when I’m dead—chooses to be ANBU Snake even though everyone is leery of that mask (like everyone is leery of the Fox mask)

… Or is that, maybe, too much of an offshoot/spinoff?

I mean, I always headcanon Mikoto has having been ANBU, though not usually Crow.

… BUT ALSO, in the Spider-verse there are multiples of the same person—with, obviously, Peter Parker being the most common Spiderman—so maybe just different versions of Shisui, Amano, and/or Sai and then the lone Shikako is the outlier? OR it could be that these are distinct Crows, but for the most part, each of them know who the other are—at least by reputation if nothing else—and the fact that no one has any idea who Shikako Nara is (or, bleakly, the ROOT brainwashed non-Shikako version of herself) is the Miles Morales-esque outlier part. SHE’S THE ANOMALY IN THE CROW-VERSE! (But instead of angry, its angsty O_O… or existential?)

Obviously Shikako is a Secret Never Told. I feel like Uzume would be either Sorrow or Girl, meaning Amano would be the matching Joy or Boy because I want them to be complementary. Then Aoba, Mikoto, Shisui, Sai… let’s see… if Uzume is not Girl, then we could do Mikoto as Girl in a “young Mikoto becomes ANBU Crow because it’s the only way she can see any action because the Uchiha clan is being weirdly gross and misogynistic and are blocking her from taking any risky missions because they want her to marry Fugaku and have extremely powerful heirs with him” kind of way

And while not EXACTLY matching as nicely as Uzume and Amano, I feel like I could then explore my Aoba headcanon as a partial!Uchiha with Boy. And, boy, do I have a weirdly specific headcanon about partial!Uchiha Aoba stumbling into both the Crow summons (he reverse summoned himself!) and the Crow mask—both very Uchiha flavored inheritances—only after the Uchiha Massacre when he is an adult and 1) wouldn’t use the name, but also 2) wouldn’t be able to rub it in the face of the clan that rejected him and his non-Uchiha parent, especially if he was like… a bastard Uchiha child who was never claimed. ( @loveelemental and I had a discord brainstorming session about an Aoba centric fic in which his partial Uchiha heritage makes for a fascinating post-Jashin Sharingan activation, which is where we came up with a lot of details for this partial!Uchiha theory)

Which then leaves Silver and Gold for Shisui and Sai… which feels pretty good? I’d probably—because I’m biased—make Shisui Gold and Sai Silver because even if they are both (maybe) Uchiha, Shisui just FEELS more sun coded even though his Sharingan is “unbreakable genjutsu”, while Sai is moon coded (and also you can get into his brother Shin, the silver of his hair, the shine of moon on blades, and similes of second place and how even as Hikaku no one really wants him first and foremost the way that his brother Shin did T_T sad boy)

So I guess the fic would be these different ANBU Crows somehow interacting with each other, and honestly the easiest way to do this would be Crow!Shikako does a sort of seal space/pocket dimension/temporary mission team using the ANBU Crow mask as a cornerstone. An “I’ve gathered you all here because we all need to murder our respective Danzos, and together we can all help each other do that. Also, imagine the satisfaction of killing Danzo seven times… or more, if he already has Izanagi”

Another way is a more contemplative/abstract “echoes/ghosts of possible timelines” thing in which, again, the ANBU Crow mask is, like, a liminal space. But wearable. Haunted or cursed? And to make it even more angsty the echoes/ghosts only appear when you’re about to die… which, to be fair, ANBU, probably pretty often?

I guess what my brain is trying to do is more of a multi-versal Sense8 than an Into The Spider-verse thing… hm… I don’t hate it at all… it could be fun to puzzle out some more…

We would be remiss to overlook her potential based upon that alone.” The Third Shinobi War never ended. Konoha needs more soldiers, grabbing anyone who can fight, especially those who can't say no.

You guys, I love this one to death. It's definitely a darker take on the Naruto universe, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The civilian born shinobi are deemed as more expendable and thus thrown into war while the clan born remain sheltered. I found it quite interesting that the Uchiha were also lobbed into this group, but it was more done as punishment instead. Very raw and properly gets across the devastation that this brings.

Sakura is twelve when she queues up in front a desk with a bunch of other equally-terrified looking shinobi. The ages range from younger than her to old enough to be her grandpa. The man sitting at the desk is stony-faced as he doles out assignments. Sakura obediently shuffles forward when it is her turn, and recites her shinobi identification number in a shaky voice when asked. When the provost marshal looks at her, looks down at his paper, looks back at her, and grimaces, Sakura knows it’s not going to be good. OR How Sakura survives the war, told in bits and pieces.

Canon-fodder! Sakura makes her shinobi debut on the front lines, forcing her to get creative in her means to survive. It's gritty, raw, and the clever use of seals is great! In most of the other works of this type, Sakura is placed on a team of sorts or has some "support" (kinda), but here she is all alone. She is forced to fight for her life, to keep going despite how she feels because ultimately, Sakura does not want to die. She does meet some people later on though and it was great to see. Y'all know this type of story is my personal guilty pleasure (also one of the best I've read thus far)...

Find Your Place (whatever it takes) - Dovey || ao3 || third war extended AU || incomplete

The war lasts longer than in canon, and has only just ended. While most of the 'Konoha 12' are clan heirs and thus protected from having to go to war prematurely, Sakura is from a civilian family, with naturally advanced chakra control, and thus is thrown immediately onto the frontlines. Now she's on a genin team in peacetime, and she's struggling to figure out how to live when she's not constantly at risk of dying. Team seven bonds in new weird ways, The Uchiha are actually all dead except for Sasuke (including war-hero itachi) who's got a chip on his shoulder the size of Konoha, Naruto isn't the kyuubi container and he finds Sakura kinda scary. Sakura would just like to have a hobby.

Find Your Place (whatever it takes) is the og fic of this category as far as I am aware. The main difference to consider is that it primarily focuses on the aftereffects of the war and the impact that it had on Sakura as a person.

She’s under Neji's command, which apparently means she’s under the Hyuuga’s command. The Hyuuga’s role is on the frontlines, but Neji must be special for a kid from the branch family, because they mostly send him and Sakura out after the big battles are done, to pick off the wounded, and burn bodies. Sakura kind of wishes she had someone to keep her from the big fights, too. Her job is with Neji, taking back kekkei genkai and retrieving important people’s bodies, but she has other assignments, too. She’s given a dull kunai and told to go through the battlefield, dodging blows and jutsus from friend and foe, slashing at whatever isn’t wearing a Konoha headband.(the third shinobi war doesn't end, dragging on for years. konoha is running out of troops, and unimportant children in the academy with even a modicum of talent are snatched up to the warfront. sakura, unfortunately, is one of them. so is neji.)

Such a strong beginning, although, I gotta say that the ending was rather disappointing imo. There was so much potential, but the author admitted to not wanting to continue the story so it was cut short. Hopefully more works of this nature will come to light!

Definitely not my favorite take on this trope, but it fits the bill, so it's here! Anyway, tbh I never actually made it far enough reading to get to the actual war part, so I don't have too much to say.

AHHHHH I'm praying for the day we get another chapter of Ground Zero!! I really appreciate how we actually get a training arc where we get a base of the characters and how this system works before they properly get dispatched. The characters and their emotions are so well done that you truly feel how unfair the situation is. They aren't heartless, they are children. Highly recommend.

The fic isn't quite long enough for the story to have properly gotten going. Therefore, I don't really have any comments.

Basically, Sakura is kinda a weirdo to the point her parents feel it's the best decision to send her to the academy lmao. Anyway, she ends up being conscripted into the war where she later forms a team with Neji and Sai. It's actually really heartfelt to see how the three of them grow to cherish and rely on each other. The dynamic is truly great because they do not get along at first. With Neji as their captain he's stuck trying to deal with the bickering Sai and Sakura. It really makes them feel their age. It's also interesting to see how their growing reputations within the camp affects each of the characters. Definitely try this one out!
