trying to figure out why tlou is weirdly comforting to me (at the same time as being. yk. absolutely devastating)

and maybe it’s just bc i’m hyperfixating so hard. but maybe there’s something in the story.

for an hour, it takes you out of your own life, and drops you into the bleakest world imaginable. and then it gives you hope.

the hope for a cure is part of it, sure, but it’s a pretty small part. most of it’s in the humanity that refuses to give in despite everything, like flowers growing out of the cracks in stone. ellie and joel. bill and frank. people finding ways not just to survive, but to live.

we see joel being a dad. we see ellie making stupid jokes and getting so excited about seeing new things. people care about each other. they paint. they play music.

at the end of the world, when everything’s shattered and burned, when the people are dead and the future’s torn away from us, we live, and we grow strawberries.
