And then there was me, a kid with an absurdly cruel, abusive family who convinced me that they were a genuinely loving, truly wholesome happy family and the beatings and starvation and so on were just what love, wholesomeness, and happiness looked like.
...No, seriously.
In retrospect it was weird, but at the time it made perfect sense and I felt like an asshole for hating them. It's wild what you can make a person believe when you start on them from birth (and don't let them go to school).
The thing about kids with absurdly cruel abusive families, and the kids with genuinely loving, truly wholesome happy families is that they both grow up just kind of assuming that the other type of families aren't actually real and that they made that shit up for Disney movies.

not to be controversial bc I know this is like…not in line with shifting opinions on fanfic comment culture but if there’s a glaring typo in my work I will NOT be offended by pointing it out. if ao3 fucks up the formatting…I will also not be offended by having this pointed out…
‘looking forward to the next update’ and ‘I hope you update soon!’ are different vibes than a demand, and should be read in good faith because a reader is finding their way to tell you how much they love it. I will not be mad at this.
‘I don’t usually like this ship but this fic made me feel something’ is also incredibly high praise. I’m not going to get mad at this.
even ‘I love this fic but I’m curious about why you made [x] choice’ is just another way a reader is engaging in and putting thought into your work.
I just feel like a lot of authors take any comment that’s not perfectly articulated glowing praise in the exact manner they’re hoping to receive it in bad faith.
fic engagement has been dropping across the board over the last several years, and yes it’s frustrating but it isn’t as though I can’t see how it happens. comment anxiety can be a real thing. the last thing anyone wants to do is offend an author they love, and that means sometimes people default to silence.
idk where I’m going with this I guess aside from saying unless a comment is outright attacking me I’m never going to get mad at it, and I think a lot of authors should feel the same way. ESPECIALLY TYPOS PLZ GOD POINT OUT MY TYPOS.

this post was the catalyst for this comic, and i was also thinking of a desi song lyric (tere dil ke sheher mein ghar mera ho gaya / in the city of your heart, my home is made) and just... hmmm.... leaving your mark.... making a house into a home..... when the marks a child inevitably leaves behind (messes, scribbles, and in this case stickers) eventually fade away as they grow older and you're left with the memories stored in what hasn't been erased....
im not verbalizing it very well but catch my drift?

To me, what is so fantastic about One Piece Fan Letter is the emphasis on the way the Straw Hats have created these connections in the lives of people they have never met. The ending scene, with all the hands putting together the puzzle pieces, and the way that all these connections came together in one dazzling way-- I loved that. I teared up at that. Wherever the Straw Hats go, they leave behind all of these puzzle pieces for people to put together and create bonds that would not have existed had the Straw Hats not shown up!
And it also just... Makes me so in love with the concept of the world after Luffy becomes King of The Pirates. I know that Oda has the final chapter planned in his head, and I doubt we will really see the long lasting effects of Luffy achieving the title of Pirate King + his dream, and I really do not want a sequel series ala Boruto or Yasahime, but.... I want to see a world in which children believe they can become a Brave Warrior of the Sea thanks to Usopp, I want to see more children look at Nami and realize they don't NEED to have a Devil Fruit or Haki or muscles to have adventures. I want to see the next generation of the One Piece world believe so strongly in their dreams, that they set out to accomplish them.
One Piece Fan Letter really opened the door, I think, for more and more stories about the "regular" people in the world of One Piece, the people you don't see in the arcs because they're the nondescript background characters, and how the Straw Hat Crew has changed them. And I want that. To me, that is fantastic.

Remember to take breaks.
Your paws are tired, little beast. Rest your legs.
Your claws have put in their work for today. Let them be idle if they must.
Your wings have carried you far, flying friend. They need to recharge.
Your teeth have brought you through tough times. Rest your jaws, as their job is never over.
Your eyes have shown you the world and beyond. Show them solace if just for a few minutes.
If not you, who will care for your body? And what of your soul? Your entire being needs its time. Don't deny it.

My therapist was so real for saying the meaning of life is found in connection.
People hug their friends when they meet up and hug them a little tighter when it comes time to say goodbye. My grandfather rebuilt the broken rocking horse my grandmother had as a child, a gift from her father. There's an indescribable ache that goes along with seeing someone you used to know intimately, the becoming of a common stranger. Coincidences that bind, one time I got an uber and the driver used to live in my home before me. It was the last place he saw his father alive as a child and he nearly cried when I told him the walls were still the same colour.
Has anyone ever gotten over their childhood best friend? Is that alone not a testament to the fact we are more than blood and bones.
It's all about connection, friends.

The shower is a safe space for you to cry, to drain all of the pent up emotion you've held onto. Plus, it's the best place to hide this side of you from your roommate, Bakugo, whom you've had a crush on for ages. You did your damndest to hide your sorrow from him, not because you're ashamed, but you didn't want to sour the mood of the apartment. You two were good friends, you didn't need to bring down the vibe by whining about how sad you are.
You don't hear the front door to your apartment open and him announcing he's home like usual. He's not supposed to be home for hours, but unexpectedly got off of work early. The sound of the water hides his presence from you; however, it doesn't mute the sobs coming from the other side of the bathroom door.
His heart drops into his stomach, he's never heard you cry like that before.
Bakugo rushes to the door and hesitates. Maybe you wanted to be alone, but he couldn't just sit in the apartment and wait for you to stop crying. Would it be better to sit on the couch and wait it out? For you to come to him?
Logically, yes.
But he wasn't thinking logically.
He taps his knuckles against the door a few times.
"Hey, y'okay?" Bakugo calls out, waiting for your answer with baited breath. He hears you gasp, sniffling and coughing before composing yourself.
"Oh...I didn't think you'd be home, Kat. I'm fine."
"You're a shit liar, y'know," he teases, but you don't laugh. "Seriously, though. Are you okay?"
You hold your breath, debating on whether or not to tell him the truth. Your answer slips out before you could stop yourself.
"...No."
It's a split second decision, but Bakugo opens the door and barges into the bathroom. He's rips back the shower curtain and carefully steps in behind you in a hurry, fully clothed, ignoring your obvious shock to his assertiveness. You're trying to shield yourself from him seeing you naked, but that all fades away when you feel his body engulf yours, holding you close against him under the stream of water.
He's so...warm.
"You can always tell me when somethin's wrong. Don't think I can't tell, or that I don't hear you cryin' at night. I don't want ya to hide from me," Bakugo whispers above you, hand holding the back of your head against his chest. "You're not alone, sweetheart."
You have no control over the tears rushing down your cheeks, mixing with the hot water and soaking into his clothes. You're shaking as you snake your arms around his waist and grip onto him for dear life.
No one's ever shown you this kind of support before - this kind of love.
"I got ya," he assures as he squeezes you tightly. "I'll stay as long as you want me to."

Exploring the dynamics of family relationships
Family is the cornerstone of society, and understanding the different types of family relationships can help foster stronger bonds and promote healthier dynamics within our families. Family relationships are complex and diverse, encompassing a range of connections and roles. Let's explore some of the common types of family relationships.
Understanding the dynamics of family relationships
youtube
Families are the cornerstone of our society, and understanding the dynamics of family relationships is crucial for fostering healthy and nurturing environments. There are various types of family relationships, each unique in its dynamics and complexities.
One of the most common types of family relationships is the parent-child relationship. This bond is fundamental and lays the foundation for a child's development. Parental love, guidance, and support are essential for a child's well-being and growth. Nurturing a strong parent-child relationship involves open communication, trust, and spending quality time together.
Sibling relationships are another significant aspect of family dynamics. Siblings share a unique bond that can range from close and supportive to more distant. Sibling relationships can be characterized by love, rivalry, friendship, and a mixture of emotions. The dynamics of sibling relationships often change over time as individuals grow and mature.
The relationship between spouses or partners is a key pillar in the family structure. Building a strong foundation of love, respect, and effective communication is essential for a healthy and harmonious partnership. Recognizing and addressing challenges in the relationship, such as conflicts and differences, is crucial for its long-term success.
Extended family relationships also play a significant role in family dynamics. This includes relationships with grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives. Extended family relationships can provide emotional support, cultural connections, and a sense of belonging. Maintaining these connections and nurturing positive relationships within the extended family can contribute to a strong family bond.
Blended families, formed through remarriage or adoption, bring together individuals from different family backgrounds. These relationships require understanding, flexibility, and open-mindedness. Blended families may face unique challenges, but with patience, communication, and respect, they can develop strong and loving bonds.
Additionally, the relationship between family members and their in-laws also affects family dynamics. Building positive and respectful relationships with in-laws can contribute to a supportive and harmonious family environment.
Understanding the various types of family relationships is essential for navigating the complexities of family dynamics. Each relationship requires attention, effort, and a commitment to fostering healthy connections. By recognizing the unique dynamics of different family relationships, we can work towards building stronger, more supportive families.

Exploring Different Types of Family Relationships
youtube
Family relationships are at the core of our lives, shaping who we are and how we interact with the world. While the traditional concept of a family may include parents and their children, there are many different types of family relationships that exist and thrive in our diverse society.
Nuclear Family
The nuclear family is perhaps the most commonly recognized family structure. It consists of a married couple and their biological or adopted children living together under one roof. This traditional family unit provides a sense of stability and is the foundation of many societies.
Extended Family
An extended family expands beyond the nuclear family to include relatives beyond the immediate household. This can include grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and even close family friends. Extended families often provide a strong support system and can play a significant role in childcare, elder care, and emotional support.
Single-Parent Family
A single-parent family is headed by one parent who may be divorced, widowed, or unmarried. In these families, one parent assumes both the nurturing and financial responsibilities of raising the child or children. Single-parent families face unique challenges but also foster strong bonds and resilience.
Blended Family
A blended family forms when two people in a relationship, each with children from a previous relationship, come together to form a new family unit. This type of family may face initial challenges as they navigate blending different backgrounds and dynamics. However, with time, patience, and open communication, blended families can build strong and loving relationships.
Same-Sex Parent Family
A same-sex parent family consists of two parents of the same gender who may be married or in a committed relationship. These families are built on love and provide a nurturing environment for children. Same-sex parent families contribute to the diversity and inclusivity of the modern family landscape.
Adoptive Family
An adoptive family is formed when parents legally adopt a child, welcoming them into their family as their own. Adoption can occur through domestic or international channels, and it provides a loving home for children who may not have had one otherwise. Adoptive families often share unique stories and experiences.
Childless Family
A childless family is one where the couple has chosen not to have children or is unable to have children due to various reasons. These families can focus on their careers, personal growth, and nurturing their relationship. Childless families play an important role in society and contribute in other meaningful ways.
It's important to recognize and respect the diversity of family structures that exist today. Each type of family relationship has its own unique dynamics, strengths, and challenges. By embracing and understanding different types of family relationships, we can foster inclusivity and create a more compassionate society.
