Deteriorating Waters is an AU of my crossover AU Pillow Club; an 'edgier' AU, if you will. A darker timeline where every character who was turned more good is now more bad and vice versa, nearly every character has suffered even more at the brutal hands of I, the author. In a strange supernatural territory of Iceland where characters are drawn to, where death is (usually) not permanent, where society is built on crazy entities and bizarre creatures in a rural series of towns, and where characters go through some pretty crazy and challenging stuff, Deteriorating Waters is an angsty comedy-psychological drama-supernatural slice-of-life crossover AU with dark themes Pillow Club could not capture.

I feel weird giving out unprompted permission statements because I'm making a big assumption that anyone's going to want to use my work. That said I also know people do like to build on other people's art and can't always work up the nerve to ask, so: Anyone is free to use this design if they want to for any reason- I don't own this character anyway. (Although I am hopeful that you do not, you know, monetize it, because i cant do that and if you do that its not fair ;_; ) Feel free to remix, improve, use as basic inspiration, etc. I would appreciate a tag/mention if you use it so I can see what you did!

This design has evolved a little since I first started drawing it, and I will see people reblogging the original design notes and think 'oh no! those are out of date and I don't have new/accurate ones!'

Reblogging the old one is still an honor- and the first take on a design just sometimes has a different appeal because it's less refined and more chaotic (especially with a character that should be chaotic), so I suspect some people will just prefer the older drawings & they'll still get shared, which is great! But I felt as if the project was a little bit incomplete without an update, since I think I've reached the point where if you see that old post & then come to my blog and look at my current content, there's a noticeable difference.

Also I kind of like making design notes.

If anyone's wondering why things changed, the answer's really simple- 90% of it is just the result of him settling into having more consistent anatomy and facial structure so that I can keep him looking accurate across different angles and poses. If you look at the old drawings you may notice that Gollum has an inconsistently shaped squishy head. That's fine for a concept post but doesn't work as well for maintaining him across different comic panels or in an animatic, at least not the way I work.

In the same vein, while my art is still & will always be heavily stylized, I started giving him more structured semi-sorta-realistic anatomy so that he wouldn't look entirely out of place next to less bizarre-looking characters such as Aragorn. (I feel that's also helpful in nudging Gollum into the uncanny valley where he ought to be, rather than leaving him so abstractified that there's a risk you won't see anything wrong with him having noodle arms.) He also acquired the new-style 'garbage bag' outfit because I found a reference in LOTR to his arms and legs being bare/exposed (it's in one of my favorite passages, the 'an eagle would think Gollum was dead if it came by right now' passage in The Two Towers):

Not even an eagle poised against the sun would have marked the hobbits sitting there, under the weight of doom, silent, not moving, shrouded in their thin grey cloaks. For a moment he might have paused to consider Gollum, a tiny figure sprawling on the ground: there perhaps lay the famished skeleton of some child of Men, its ragged garment still clinging to it, its long arms and legs almost bone-white and bone-thin: no flesh worth a peck.

It's finally done!!! The other half of my dst oc, Windell's ref sheet! It's a project I had been working on for months and I'm just glad I can now properly introduce these people. Windell's Suits are not exactly whole new personalities that are separate from Windell (apart from Diamonds and Spades in particular situations), they're articles of clothing that alter parts of their host's personality, but it's still the host in the core. Theoretically, anyone can wear them, but they're usually seen with Windell because he created and own these things.

If you die your elder yautja will slowly go crazy without you.

When he found out you passed away he was kind of shell shocked.

He’ll just stare at your recovered body, his hand holding your much smaller one. He doesn’t wanna let go because he knows your hand will become colder again without his warm one clasping it.

He’s most likely to have your body preserved in an alien liquid tank, so he can always see you.

If he could he’d sleep with your decaying corpse. But he can’t bring himself to do it, rigamortis already settled and has made your body stiff.

His son will be so genuinely worried for him. His son will often make him stay in the med bay just so he can get rest without having to face your empty side of the bed.

He talks to your dead body. His palm on the tank in hopes yours would reach out to meet his through the thick glass.

Let’s say, for angst reasons. The tank your kept in is smashed and a bad blood takes the body or just plane out destroys it.

That will be your mates breaking point.

He will honesty just go hay wire crazy.

He’ll send everyone he knows to go get your body.

As he sits in front of the empty tank, he’ll laugh. One of those villainous loud booming laughs. Kind of a random thing but he just does it once he finally comes to terms that your gone and never coming back.

He’ll talk to the tank as if your still there.

He won’t eat properly and will start to not take care of his appearance. His claws growing long and sharp. A stark contrast to the short dull ones he had just for you.

His tendrils will become dirty with grime from not properly washing.

He will find himself in your closet sniffing desperately at your clothes trying to smell the scent he has because so addicted and accustomed to. If he does find a shirt that smells like you he will shove his face in it and talk to himself as if you were right there.

He’ll start to hallucinate from the lack of sleep he gets.

The hallucinations being of you walking around or touching his face telling him how nasty he is.

The hallucinations are 50 50 when it comes to if you spout distrustful thoughts over his appearance or just nice remarks on how strong or handsome he is.

He only knows their not real because of the lack of heat your head has as it cupped the hollow of his cheek.

He would probably be dead by time they even recover what’s left of your decayed body.

Alone in your once shared bed.

His eyes peacefully closed as he wore all his armor.

He will be loosely clutching the pillow your head used to lay on. When you were still with him.

I made a post about fatphobia and how being fat is not bad or automatically unhealthy, and about how food holds no moral value. Got this comment:

First of all, being “overweight” by bmi standards means nothing because bmi is bullshit. But also, the studies that claimed to show higher weight being a risk factor for disease have been debunked. There is no sound evidence to suggest that being fat will give you heart problems and diseases and kill you early.

Secondly, all food adds nutrients to your body. In different quantities yes, but that really doesn’t mean much. Obviously we eat to fuel our bodies, but we also eat for enjoyment. You are not required to eat only the most nutrient dense foods. I would also like to point out that calories are what add fat to the body, not whether your food has more or less nutrients, and that is not a bad thing either. Plus, it’s not like every fat person is just on an increasing weight train, a lot of us stay pretty much the same weight for years at a time, and fat people are allowed to gain weight too.

And third of all, idk what the rest of that last sentence was supposed to say because I blocked this person before they could comment more filth, but the “especially female bodies” bit shows their misogyny quite plainly. Big men are just big men, but big women are disgusting because women are supposed to be tiny and fragile and dainty and feminine (barf)

(Also, this is why I say food and heath have no moral value. A lot of the worst most violent fatphobes claim they’re “just looking out for your health” and while we all know that’s not true, they act as if being unhealthy is both a) a choice you made, and b) a moral failing. It’s okay to be unhealthy, whether that be because of your weight or a disability or an illness (both physical and mental). How well you take care of yourself is not an indicator of how good of a person you are, it wouldn’t be even if your health were completely up to you like these people pretend. Which is why even if you could be smaller, even if you’re only fat because you made the choice to only eat food you enjoy and not to exercise, that’s still okay. It’s okay to be big. You are not required to “put in the work” and not doing so does not make you a bad person. We have to separate morality from health and fitness. Anything else is not only fatphobic, but also usually ableist and classist too.)
