I have bottom surgery scheduled in April. I am very excited about it, but I have a lot of thoughts on how the process has been.

My surgeon's clinic calls it a transmasculine surgery. My insurance does the same. Everywhere I look for information about the surgery, it is referred to as masculinizing, as a gender confirmation surgery for men and masculine people.

I am not transmasculine nor a transgender man. I am not masculine or a man at all.

I am an intersex transgender woman with ambiguous genitalia seeking urethral lengthening, a scrotoplasty, and closure of a painful vagina that doesn't go anywhere. I do not consider my wants to be masculine and don't like referring to it that way. I have been gendered a boy, a man, a sir for a lot of my life and I do not wish to be called these things. My surgeon, letters, and insurance are calling my surgery a metoidioplasty, a surgery traditionally offered to transmasculine people and men.

In order to get this surgery, I have had to repeatedly state that I am a man, or at the very least "masculine", with a phallus that needs to be "affirmed" via surgery. It is dysphoric work.

I am appreciative of my ability to access life-saving surgery through transgender medical care, but I do look forward very much to the day in which all can access hormones and surgery without it being so deeply gendered, without all of the hoops and demands to prove you are really enough of a man or a woman to justify medical care.

I look forward to the day in which genitals do not have genders.

The surgeon told me my results will be great, because his first surgeries were done on intersex people. The violence in that sentence hasn't left my mind since he said it.

And Most Of All: Remember AFAB, AMAB, AXAB, just AGAB in general originated from intersex people describing the label the doctors gave them at birth. It's not an identity, it's an event. It's not an adjective or descriptor, it's a noun. It's not a replacement for female/male or vagina/penis or anything like that, it's what label intersex people got slapped onto them when they were born, and in CAGAB's case the one they were forcibly assigned through unneeded medical intervention to mutilate their intersex body.

You've heard 'listen to your queer elders' a thousand times. Listen to your queer intersex elders, please. I'm not an elder by any means but if you want people like me to be safe and happy enough to live to become one, PLEASE. Listen to intersex people.

Feliks being afraid of vampires and werewolves is kinda funny bcs of two things:

Historically, Jogaila, the prince of Lithuania, was believed to be a werewolf, that's why Poles offered a bath to him to check his genitalia to see if he actually was a werewolf. As you suspect, he was not. So the "show me your dick and balls" in hetalia is accurate! But also, Liet is a werewolf anyway so.

If your transition goal is to have a complete removal of all your internal and external genitalia, there is a real surgery that people get to do that. It’s called genital nullification.

It’s also called nullectomy or nullo.

It’s not a very new or super complicated surgery. Everything is taken out/taken off and you’re left with just a hole for your urethra (where you urinate out of). The urethra may be moved as part of surgery. If you research the procedure you’ll also probably hear them talk about urethral shortening, because nullification is mostly done on cis men/transfems/nonbinary patients who require a penectomy as part of the surgery.

Now don’t get this for an aesthetic or because you like how dolls look. It takes 6-8 weeks of recovery and is as serious a decision as any other bottom surgery. More info is here and here. This website has some info and pictures (graphic warning) of nullification along with phallus-preserving vaginoplasty, another nonbinary surgery.

In your omegaverse they don't get genitals until they present, so how do they know what sex the kid is before puberty?

They don’t know their secondary gender / dynamic (a/b/o etc) until after puberty, but they do know their primary sex before then/at birth (blood tests and some minor characteristics). There’s a case to be made here in this universe that primary sex is determined in the womb and/or at a chromosomal level, and that secondary gender/dynamic is based on environmental factors (to an extent) and therefore cannot be predicted or fully guessed until after presentation, but I don’t know enough about genetics and gene expression to explain it. But a child presenting a certain way could be a response to environmental stressors (such as Lex with his solo alpha father) though it’s impossible to say it wouldn’t have happened anyway.
