one of my favorite little omegaverse things is the proliferation of scenting wrists which is not how human body smell works at all but is where we put perfume. it's so like. anatomy made up by people who have only ever read about having a human body. i also think this pheromones-as-perfume connection is borne out by the fact that everyone always describes characters in the omegaverse as having absurdly unlikely notes to their scents. like you just like perfume you're describing perfume there is no way he smells like cinnamon and chocolate lol

hello! I’ve read different omegaverse fics and most of them seem to have different worldbuilding so I was curious about yours. In ASOH, do mated alpha and omega couple’s heats and ruts line up? Also how often do heats and ruts hit? I would also love to know if you have any thoughts on if any of this is different for Kryptonians. I hope you have a great day, I love your writing!

I actually think they start to sync up even before mating. The longer you spend near your alpha/omega, the closer your ruts/heats get to each other. Gradually at first, until they start to overlap and then sync. Mating would automatically cause them to sync, I imagine. And a shock heat/rut could cause a sync if it was strong enough, even while unmated.

In my head, ruts/heats come cyclically around 4-6 times a year. Some people have fewer, some more.

Some things I think are different for Kryptonians: fewer annual heats/ruts (possibly leading to repopulation issues back on Krypton), longer knots during ruts/heats, more likely to experience mini ruts/heats during pregnancy to encourage healthy progression. Just a lot of adaptive instincts and physical changes to try and address fewer pregnancies in the last few generations on Krypton.

misc worldbuilding scraps that are currently rotating on the back burner:

(omegaverse) human instinct relies on scent > hearing > taste > sight to find compatible partners, kryptonian instincts lean on sight > hearing > scent > taste, hence the mating markings

omegaverse humans have a much higher degree of face blindness than we normal humans do lmao

helps clark pass, the more he pulls his scent back the more it fades away, clark kent smells so dull/insignificant/mild that it seems like he's got a medical condition (hypomyrodia). jonathan kent had this. when jonathan and martha found bby kal, he was scared and tried to match scents to the two humans who found him, which caused his kryptonian scent to quickly fade. a hypomyrodic pup would probably face high abandonment rates and low adoption rates, so it was probably a relief that two willing parents brought the pup in

kryptonians all pretty much exist along a relatively smooth spectrum of sexual characteristics and can transition somewhat like clownfish if there's a hormonal imbalance in their community. having zero (0) other kryptonians around does things to clark before he grows the fortress and is able to synthesize hormone stabilizers

humans meanwhile have ten major sexes because betas can be true beta, alpha-leaning, or omega-leaning depending on their recessive genes

poison ivy is x100 more horrifying in any omegaverse world. she only manages to zop clark though bc the pollen is enchanted. however it's enchanted to induce primal alpha hindbrain, which means something very different to lone kryptonians than packbonded humans

it would have been the norm on krypton to have one's facial markings out. kryptonians would pull them back if they were sick, or perhaps terrified... primal hindbrain clark looking around and seeing nothing but non-glowing faces, and it coming across as everyone around him fucking terrified of him

for the first few months of their acquaintance clark is like. im not sure what gender batman is and at this point i'm not sure its ok to ask (he can smell past the concealing patches to bruce's strong omega scent but the patches could also be doubling as, like, the equivalent of binders, could be that batman's gender is null, but he mixes in diluted alpha cologne, but that could just be for concealment/intimidation....???)

sun-powered kryptonians have a strong, distinctively alien but somewhat alpha-smelling scent (when they're not pulling it back) but barely leave any on people they try to scent with, and scents barely stick to them. when clark politely explains this to bb dickie hes just like well i guess ill just have to scent you for longer! and clark goes 🥺

at this early point in the timeline barry is the only known omega superhero so the tabloids are huge into superflash

anyway all that's just kind of fluff/details... the core theme i've been rotating around is overcoming real and genuine barriers to intimacy. the loneliness of knowing you're a square peg in a world of round holes, the necessary compromises of sanding away your corners, the joy of meeting someone who will stretch to meet you where you are. there's a fair few excellent fics of bruce uncomfortable in an omega's role and body, i want to come at it from a perspective where a xenomegaverse clark has to define what gender means to him, in the heightened roles of the omegaverse. we are looking also at layers of passing. when parts of your closet become your armor that protects but encumbers you, and other parts become your exoskeleton, which grow into who you are. we are looking at that comic about the orchid that has the pattern on it meant to appeal to an extinct species of bee. we are looking at compromise made of love and compromise made of fear. and we are looking at tentacles baby.................

Another year, another rec list with some of the best xuexiao I've read these last 12 months!! >w<

And like last year's rec list, this isn't either exhaustive or limited to fics posted in 2023. It's just the things I have found, which I liked, and want to spread the love about ^-^

Here's, in no particular order, my favourite xuexiao (and occasional songxuexiao) fics. Also, take a look down below for other mxtx or danmei pairings!

You're mine by twilightshards. This is a phenomenal oneshot where Xue Yang does not wait patiently to take revenge on Baixue temple, but rather follows the annoying daoshi out of Jinlintai as soon as he gets off the hook. He catches up with them a couple of nights later, only to find Xiao Xingchen in a... compromised position. While moaning Xue Yang's name.

The tamed by @fieri-sentio-et-excrucior. Last year I recommended the wonderful The Prisoner of Jinlintai fic, and now we got a sequel to that!!! Exciting stuff, very exciting... Xiao Xingchen saves Xue Yang from his botched execution and Song Lan is there raging at what he thinks is a psycho taking full advantage of his friend's kindness. Absolutely loved it!

蛇 - shé by shoujorei. A spectacular oviposition fic with blind snake hybrid Xiao Xingchen and enemy-posing-as-housemate Xue Yang, who really didn't know what he was volunteering for when he offered to "help" daozhang with his next heat. An absolute delight!

good lies go bad by istilfearkanna One of the Yi City what-if's I like so much, showing what would happen if Song Lan is successful in killing Xue Yang and, as per canon, vows not to tell his friend anything. So naturally you have Xiao Xingchen happy about his rekindled friendship, but also deeply worried about his missing friend... breaks my heart every time T-T (thx lionfish13 for the rec!!!)

Down in the black sea by @10holmes. A mermaid AU which has to be the sweetest Xue Yang /Xiao Xingchen tale I've seen in a while, with xxc being a revered merman saving the life of a handsome pirate... without realizing that is the infamous Xue Yang, mermaid hunter and slayer of plenty of his kinsmen!! But of course, they fall in love. It's downright adorable (and deliciously angst-inducing!) Also, the worldbuilding in this one is marvelous!

promises, promises by an anonymous author. Time travel fic!!! This one follows Song Lan trying to right the wrongs of his life in the easiest way possible: that is, to eliminate Xue Yang before he has the chance to hurt anyone else. Except... he gets distracted saving the life of a poor child with a mangled left hand. Still ongoing, and XXC isn't in the picture yet, but the new chapters are highly anticipated and the writing style is so, so, so good.

the non-con opition by the same anonymous author. How do I know? None of your business!! But the awesome writing style continues here, as well as the song lan/xue yang being brought together by fate is just as awesome. It promises to be songxuexiao eventually, for now it's a delightful soulmates/omegaverse with alpha!Song Lan in rut nonconning the hell out of a mysterious omega with a foul mouth.

Sant Xingchen i el drac by @ergbolli45 A little sweet adorable spin of a traditional legend very dear to my heart. It's winter, the Yi City crew are bored around their campfire, and A-Qing wants a story. So, Xue Yang offers to tell a tale from some exotic land on the west about a little princess, a brave knight and a fearsome dragon.

sticking their dick in crazy by Sectionladvivi. I'm not generally one for modern AUs, but this one is such a stupid and shameless pwp that it skyrocketed through my rankings XD SongXueXiao, and oddly enough, the crazy one alluded in the title isn't Xue Yang!! Delicious and filthy. No thoughts, just horn.

Priceless by @fieri-sentio-et-excrucior. Another modern AU!! but how can I resist, when this is Xue Yang breaking and entering happily married songxiao's domicile, who were getting ready for a very sexy night... and end up, Song Lan tied up and forced to watch the criminal fuck Xiao Xingchen senseless (and unaware it's not his husband the one in bed with him!). Evil and sexy, another wonderful fic by such a wonderful author <3

hands, reaching out by @neriine. A retelling of Yi City but with mutation-like special powers, making it especially interesting when it comes to xuexiao's backstory (song lan is also there, in the background) and the night hunts. It's sweet, sweet, Xue Yang as always a murder gremlin who thinks he has it all under control when the first thing that he doesn't know half-way about is his own feelings... Very well-written, and creative in its worldbuilding!

THIS lovely picture is not from a fic (well, not yet, unless I manage to do something cute with it >w<) but serves as an example of all the wonderful pic manips @wangxianswuji has made, which maybe it's cheating a bit for a fanfic rec post, but. They're just so good. Go check their profile and drool with me ^-^

and speaking of art, I can't not mention @wrathyforest's art done for the fic Now that I see you, particularly one of my favourite moments with Xiao Xingchen defending Xue Yang from an undesirable... this fic was in last year's rec list, and very deservingly so!

ANd now for the other ships!

Love of my life, don't hurt me by @foreheadkissesforzewu-jun This is a delightful and spectacularly cruel tale of unrequired love by a gallant cultivator spiriting his soulmate away. At least, that's what Wen Zhuliu sees it, when in fact this fic is him kidnapping and brutally assaulting Lan Xichen, while following the events of the Wen war and the sunshot campaign. Loved it, but PLEASE read the tags.

Jade pillar, bending like reed by awkwardrecline. dark jades (and dark!Lan Xichen in particular) are so so sooo very dear to my heart... this fic has it all, a tyrannical Lan clan leader who will abuse his power left right and center, a jealous didi who wants nothing but possessive love, so much smut everywhere... Cloud Recesses is never as sexy as when the jades are so unrestrained, I love it! ^-^

My future mommy's mistake by tenwudzvrs. Is this fic pretty much what many people consider nono kinks? mpreg, noncon, xue yang being an utter dick? and do I love it precisely because of it? XD pregnant Wei Wuxian goes home one evening but comes across a ruffian in a back alley, who does everything to him up to and including speaking with his husband through the phone while nailing him to the wall. Lan Zhan isn't happy. I am delighted.

What brother needs, brother gets by @foreheadkissesforzewu-jun. a modern AU jadecest pwp which... to be honest, it's pure oral fixation Lan Xichen going to his didi after he got dumped by some idiot and Lan Wangji doing the best he can to comfort him. It's ridiculously shameless and incredibly enjoyable, just to see these two come to the conclusion that the best course of action is to fuck each other!! XD Wei Ying will find a surprise when he gets back home from his travels and finds his husband has collected another husband...

furious love by @alipeeps. From Till the end of the moon, a very nasty and wonderfully in-canon insight on the disastrous marriage between Ye Xiwu (the original) and Tantai Jin. Let's just say she decides to take her marital rights to the extreme, and using the very same lust potion that originally landed her in that marriage to begin with! Tantai Jin is one of those characters that truly suffer beautifully, and suffer he does here!

a fire, made high and wild by @judiwench. A fic for Sleuth of Ming Dynasty, which is a series that wormed its way into my soul. Sui Zhou desperately searches Tang Fan (him, please, him, not his corpse) only to find him... less than good. I was seriously debating between this one and is the festering that kills a man by the same author, but... Agh, they are both amazing snippets at their obvious mutual love, and the trauma that brings it to light. Highly recommend the series and these fics!

a long sleepless night by @dying-redshirt-noises. This one is from Mysterious Lotus Casebook, a wonderful three-way pwp in the Girls' Mansion where Fang Duobing gets doused with sex pollen... of course, Li Lianhua wants to help, but there is not much he can do with his yang disfunction. How handy to have someone like a-Fei nearby to rail the young master, then!! It is sexy and wonderfully in-canon, and I'm all for it.

And I'm probably still forgetting a few fics, there is nowhere near enough jadecest here compared to what I know I have read and enjoyed... Shame on me again for forgetting to bookmark more often than not.

I'm a bit sad that I barely found any of this year's authors on tumblr (don't know if they don't have accounts here, or do under different usernames) so if anyone knows about them, repost bc I'd like to engage and give them my most sincere praise.

Also, I will say I purposefully avoided tgcf fics for fear of spoilers until I read the whole book, so... next year I'm surely filling this with hualian and such!! >w<

Finally, since we're at it, I just will get a bit of self-promotion with the 5 fics I liked most of what I wrote on this year. I'm IMMENSELY PROUD to have produced 36 fics in this year of our lord 2023 (3 per month!!! omfg!!) and while I can't claim favourites, these might be the ones I'm most proud of:

Some kind of dream. Xuexiao roleplaying after a night hunt, with some nice power dynamics, very mutually enthusiastic consensual non-con, and Xue Yang all but confessing that he is Xiao Xingchen's worse enemy... Smut and fluff, all in one. I do love the 3 year bliss in Yi City, and all the in-canon opportunities it offers!!!

Incensed nights. An INSANE endeavor for kinktober, with WangXian dreaming each night a different cozy, cruel, smutty or simply crack-y scenario. 31 fics for the price of one!! multiple pairings, I can't stress how much Lan Zhan dreams of his brother, or wei wuxian's mind follows other ships... Extremely happy with this one, and I nearly went crazy, seriously.

Shards of morning nights and forbidden kisses. My attempt at jadecest, niecest and omegaverse, all in one. ANd quite successful, might I say! Both clan leaders Lan and Nie want to find a way to claim and marry their respective omega didis, but something something clan rules forces them to play a delicate and sexy political game. It ends in a very nice orgy XD

A Comedy of Yi City Errors. This one, I'm particularly happy with the sheer amount of planning and interlocking plotpoints it has, with Song Lan coming across Xiao Xingchen, a-Qing and Xue Yang without even realizing. I'm told it is quite funny... And I like it very much >w<

...what did you call it again? the only one not mdzs in the list, this is for Till the end of the moon and it's yet again Tantai Jin suffering in his so beautiful way! It was done for an exchange, following the premise: take a canon even and make it worse. Do you think ttj had it bad in the series, with the servants mistreating him in Ye Manor? Ya have seen nuffin!!!

Haha! I’ve really been enjoying ‘We are so please with this Match’ - Kara’s perspective really is brilliant for this whole Situation. Also in the back of my head I’m thinking about your Kryptonian worldbuilding for the sorrowverse and wondering if Kara’s pov is maybe just a little bit skewed by the House of El already being Really Goddamn Weird by Kryptonian Standards. Probably not, since you have a lot of different and equally good ideas in your head, but I’m always cackling just a little whenever I read anything of yours about Krypton and think about sorrowverse Jor-El for more than 30 seconds.

Thank you, I've been having a lot of fun writing it! ❤️ I wanted to focus on a beta perspective for a heat/rut fic for once, and ideally work out some more biological/social role stuff to use for betas in general in the process. I've been trying to use them more and get more into them as a gender of interest for omegaverse, I've just never quiiiiite gotten as deep into them as I wanted to.

I'm not sure what you're referencing with "sorrowverse" so you might have the wrong person for that, but also I genuinely can't definitively say I DON'T have a WIP that I've called that at this point, hahaha. 😅 I have, uh, too many WIPs. That's it. That's all. That's the issue. Hahahaha self why. Why are we like this.

How does scent work?

hi!!! i assume this is a misce question???

generally speaking, if you're trying to get into misceanimalis and want a scent, you'd pick a scent you thinks best represents you (and generally also your secondary gender as part of that- most omegas will pick feminine or sugary scents, for example), and hunt down a perfume or cologne with that smell. You can also match it with shampoos, conditioners, etc. if you're REALLY particular about it being one brand's, exact same, version of that smell? Well some companies, like bath and body works, will release multiple products with the exact same scent- so you could start there!!! alternatives (or just other ways to add it as well) include essential oils, lotion, laundry detergent/sheets, necklaces or jewlery with the scent contained in them (generally made using essential oils or other liquid scents in like, a glass bead or vial), and just. having a scent listed on your blog but not going out of your way to pursue it. or not having one at all!!! for mine I use, again, bath and body works, and I have the perfume and lotion :) I don't use them every single day because, like, i don't even get DRESSED out of my pajamas every day let alone do my perfume or add accessories or anything, lmao, and also because as an alter in a system i'm not always in front. like 9 times out of 10 i am but still. ((((plus even when i am and we do wanna put on some sorta smelly stuff, Seán has his own stuff he likes, too. sometimes we even just. wear both of them at the same time.)))) IF YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT OMEGAVERSE IN GENERAL AND/OR WHY MISCE PPL DO THIS, PLEAS LOOK UNDER THE CUT!!!! :D

because omegaverse is based around the disproven wolves hierarchy, other aspects of biology, unrelated to the heats/ruts part, are often also influenced by animal stuff. case in point, scent.

most mammals can gain lots of information through smell about each other, including health, mood, a personalized "this is insert person" smell, and in A/B/O, a persons hierarchy or secondary gender. it varies from animal to animal, but you get the idea; smell is IMPORTANT, and you, as an individual, have a smell.

the idea is that scent glands on your body (especially neck/cheek areas because, animals, so like. scent marking things by rubbing your face on them is a BIG THING) would carry these scents and that info around. of course, if you have a pet cat or dog or something, they can already smell info from you. but humans generally can't pick up on these things from scent- even when you smell like, sweat, it doesn't smell like a specific PERSON most of the time. like, look me in the eyes and tell me you could pick your best friend's smell out of like, the smell of everyone you know. you couldn't, and i'd have to make every participant run 80 laps before you could smell anything at all from even one of them. so, when people are part of misce and emulating the lifestyles and identities of omegaverse worldbuilding/culture, the best way to replicate this system is with things like perfume. you might not know generally what people smell like, but if your ex used a specific cologne or perfume (OR EVEN just the same hair products and dryer sheets) all the time and you caught a wiff at the supermarket, you're probably going to immediately recognize it and think of them. as for the aformentioned gender of it all, tons of fics have specific kinds of smells associated with certain genders, and in general, flowery scents and fruit or dessert scents are assosiated with omegas, more musky scents (and sometimes like. what, raw meat? barbeque sause? but that's way rare compared to the everpresent "this omega smells like a cookie") are associated with alphas, and betas usually get androgynous or subtler scents, and sometimes scents that are just like. "insert whatever plant/nature thing that isn't a flower or something dark/musky smelling here". sometimes they don't have scents at all. I think this is a byproduct of the personality in the gender stereotypes, and how we associate those with smell. o megas are generally sweet and nurturing, and people associate that with sweet things (sweet means sweet) or flowers because of the "nurturing = woman or mom" thing and how flowers are heavily used in women's products. Alphas are meant to be aggressive leaders who are like, the elephant in the room almost, and kinda intimidating, so something dark and "!!!!!!!" is very much on the table, and again, that also ties into masculinity. Betas as a third gender in a society where most of us grew up with two get the leftovers, and also they're generally seen as more of just...pleasant agreeable support figures who hang out around the others and chill, so that results in more mellow, "calming" scents, and if all your characters have plant or nature smells you're probably going to try and find that for the betas too. (or again, just say they don't have one at all for easiness's sake.) not everyone sees scent as gendered though and even those that do might be scent-nonconforming. the general idea is, "This is the smell that represents me and makes me recognizable in my community. When you smell this smell, or at least my version of it, it's easy to guess that i'm nearby. If something has my scent on it, then it's mine, back off; and that includes my mate (again, nuzzling/mixing scents), so don't try me"

hi darling!! i am back because i realized that somewhere along the "just spit it on to the page" writing i've been doing for the abo fic that is still 100% your fault, i am somehow at. almost 10k words. which is insane.

BUT since i've got so much and yet have barely begun, i decided to poke you about something that im playing with in it which IS: what are your thoughts on the possibility of Chuuya's secondary gender being messed with/fucked up by his time in the labs?

it's funny you say that, because my beast skk fic has this loosely used as a subplot explanation for some of the fuckery going on with him that i won't go too into details bc the fic is still ongoing and i'm pretty sure I have readers following me here. but i somehow managed to make professor n even more of a scumbag for what happened to chuuya, so uhh, yay?

my immediate thought is: heck yeah!! esp. if you like to add a touch of explanation to your omegaverse worldbuilding beyond just 'uhhhh it happens because i say so'

the tldr of what i did in my own fic about chuuya getting experimented on was that his clone was used as a scapegoat for a secret experiment wherein scientists were trying to see if they could combine alpha/omega traits either into a beta or put alpha traits into an omega and vice versa with alphas. like, implanting the scent glands of one individual into another in the hopes that the recipient would inherit the behaviors of the first person and by proxy their unique scent, because scents are tied to identities in a very 'if your identity is stolen, your life may as well be forfeit in whoever's hands it fell into because they know now all of your memories'

the short answer is that the experiment went fucking terribly because it turns out the body can't handle experiencing both a rut and a heat at the same time. people just drop dead best case scenario because they fail to thrive.

ANYWAY, that was the angle i went with as an example and i feel like since what was done to chuuya as a kid is vague enough to leave up to interpretation, this can work in your favor for what you have planned. as a wink-wink nudge-nudge, you could also factor in the poisons used on chuuya/him getting stabbed with that knife laced with poison. where the consequences aren't immediate, but long-term it ends up altering his genes on a basic, functioning level.

it doesn't have to be all bad, either. his time in the lab could've positively affected him (i know this sounds ironic but i don't mean that he had a good time there sdfjkdjfk just that there was a silver lining to the unspeakable horrors that he can use to his advantage) depending on the omegaverse worldbuilding you do. maybe one of the subgenders has a disadvantage of some sort, and he was experimented on ~for the greater good~ to save him from a future life of hardship. OR, OR, you could use it as an excuse for why he doesn't experience heats or ruts or isn't affect by the scents of those around him. maybe professor n dun goofed real bad and no one even knows what to classify chuuya as. he's just chuuya.

there's actually a lot you can do with it tbh that are all very, very interesting. it's ripe for angst, for some cool lore, and interesting plot twists that i don't see explored often in omegaverse tbh. i hope this gave you some food for thought!!

Like ok real talk I know omegaverse as a trope has a Reputation of being a bad excuse for kinky porn, and like. Yeah sure there are a lot of boring omegaverse that just goes "hey what if we did gender roles 2.0," but I assure you there are omegaverse fics out there that actually try to do something interesting with that worldbuilding. I've read a fic where the protag couldn't smell pheromones, and the impact it had on his day-to-day life as he was unable to perceive 50% of social cues around him. I've read a fic where the protag had been hazardly shoved in the "omega" category because that's the closest his presentation came to, but he didn't actually fit in any of those labels biologically. I read a fic about an omega who used his uwu I am sooo weak stereotype as a way to manipulate people into doing shit for him. I read a fic where being a beta was actually considered the worse option, as being an omega or an alpha gave you buffs on some sorts of magic. I've read a fic about a character who presented as a sigma male, and it was played 100% seriously with his struggles living in an extremely gendered society and being constantly told "oh you're just an alpha who wants to be special" "oh you're just a beta who's a bit of a late bloomer" and such. I have read a chilling fic played as horror where a character used her pheromones as a way to groom someone and brainwash her.

Again. A lot of omegaverse is worldbuilding for the sake of porn, and it rules. A lot of omegaverse is boring misoginy 2.0, and it sucks. But when you act like that's all there is, you remind me of my dad telling me that fantasy isn't a real genre of literature because it's always "medieval setting overwhelmingly good guys fighting a nondescript evil" because he skim read the wikipedia page for the lord of the ring and thought that was the entire genre.

I'm not telling you to drop everything and start worshipping omegaverse as the single best trope of all time- hell, I'm not even asking you to read omegaverse at all. But I am asking you guys to stop acting like you know everything about a genre or a trope based on cultural osmosis and maybe three bad exemples you read once. This doesn't just apply to omegaverse btw, sometimes you don't know much about a genre or medium or trope and it's fine, just don't act like you know everything there is to know about it.

What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Probably All Our Memories, They're Haunted, a Deja Vu MV fic in which Yoohyeon slowly descends into killing all her friends.

What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

This one's hard! I write a lot of fluffy one-shots where the point is the happiness? Like, Days of Splendour is literally about Weilan getting their happy ending wedding.

Similarly, Pivot is a fix-it ending for Critical Role season 1, in which Vax doesn't die and Gilmore gets to date him, too.

And The Fringe Benefits Of Being Family is fluffy future kidfic snippets in which Weilan get to be parents while their girls grow up.

Do you get hate on fics?

I once got a backhanded compliment on a fic where the commenter asserted they didn't usually read this ship because the shippers are all sus for shipping it and did it wrong, but my take passed their sniff-test. But they'd keep a close eye on my next work for this ship, just in case.

I vaguely recall getting a comment once and then immediately deleting it, but I can't for the life of me remember why. Probably for the best?

And there was that ask I once got that sticks in my brain because it was HILARIOUS. It asserted that because I have a recognizable style and used things like. Grammar and paragraph formatting for pacing, my writing was dry and boring and the worst and I just was copying myself with every new fic. I screenshot it and had a good laugh with friends over it :D

Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Yes, and a lot of different kinds! Sometimes I want to explore certain kinks, like tentacles (What Lies In Darkness, Weilan with eldritch!Shen Wei) or D/s (Good Vibrations, Dom!ZYL with sub!Shen Wei). Other times I just want to explore the relationship between the characters (Special Occasion, Weilan birthday blowjob) or worldbuilding (Long Night In Longcheng, Weilan canon au with dragon!Shen Wei).

Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

I love crossovers! I sadly haven't written too many, though. I have some old WIPs for a Naruto x Batman Beyond and a YGO! x SG-1 crossovers in my pile I occasionally return to, but nowhere close to finished. And I'm seriously considering writing a Guardian x Grimm crossover at some point lol

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

The closest I got (that I'm aware of) is someone copying the exact premise of my fic in a beat-by-beat way without crediting me for the inspiration. It was memorable because it was my most popular fic at that point and the fandom didn't have a similar premise before.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

Recently someone Furimmer translated my story An Intimate Touch into Russian! First time someone found my fic worth it to translate, I'm so happy still just thinking about it :D (It's also interesting to see they chose a different snippet to highlight in the summary, ha! That one seemed to resonate with them more. Can't blame them ;) )

What's your all-time favorite ship? Weilan (Guardian), Nick/Renard/Juliette (Grimm), and Jane/Uma (Disney's Descendants). I tend to be a multishipper, but these never fail to get me in the feels :D

Of my unposted WIPs, if I've moved on from the fandom, I'm unlikely to put them up. That's why I posted a deluge of WIPs when I left the ragehappy fandom, because I couldn't see myself picking them up again, but I also regularly regret not e.g. having posted certain Naruto fic way back when I was writing them. Now the quality just doesn't hold up to my current standard, but I'm not going back to edit them, either.

What are your writing strengths?

I think I'm pretty good at dialogue and fighting scenes! I practiced writing fighting scenes a lot because they used to be one of my weak spots, and now I'm comfy where I'm at skill level wise. I like pitting characters against each other, too, though I still have room for improvement in that area.

What are your writing weaknesses?

Environmental storytelling. Character conflict that lasts longer than a handful of scenes. 15k+ longfic (I'm terribly at keeping myself motivated to write them and then never finish). Slow burn and character/relationship development that takes a while to get to (keeping characters consistent but still having them change is hard to juggle! Especially since I have a tendency to write scenes out of order)

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

If it's a language I know, I'm comfortable with it! It needs to be done for effect, though. Unless we're talking prefixes/suffixes and other addresses of respect/relation that just don't translate well (e.g. yifu, shixiong, xiao/lao, -kun, -senpai, etc.) but reveal information about the exact way characters relate to each other.

First fandom you wrote for? Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters (back on German fanfic site Animexx). It was a self-insert OC portal fic where she ends up with Seto Kaiba xD I think I named her Leia or similar? I forget.

Favorite fic you've written?

The fic I'm writing for FFFX rn is a serious contender for top spot, if I manage to pull it off the way I imagine it.

I'm still pretty proud of Two Of A Kind (Guardian, Ya Qing/Zhu Hong & Shen Wei) and Safe In Your Hands (Weilan, post-canon with smut). The older a work is, the more I tend to see the flaws in it :') so my answers usually tend to be pretty recent stuff!

Thank you, that's very flattering to hear! ❤️ I usually link people to this Fanlore entry for the basics, though there's definitely a wide array of variations on the theme out there.

Personally I like to lean into the gender roles when I write omegaverse, either in their fulfillment or their subversion, and a lot of it's also just funtimes with kink or porn, but the worldbuilding and pack dynamics can get really interesting. Like, I'm just a big fan of that kind of stuff in general.

And honestly, not to toot my own horn here, but my omegaverse fics ARE probably a good intro to start from? I get told I won people over to omegaverse pretty regularly, including by people who don't usually like it, haha. I don't know what you're into for fandoms/pairings/etc, but I might be able to find you some specific recs for either my own stuff or someone else's if you wanna send me some of your likes/dislikes?

Omg 🫥. I do.... sometimes. I really, really love comments, and I need to be better about responding to them! It's a mixture of social anxiety and savoring them that leads me to not responding, and then I wonder if it's too late to respond, and then they stack up, and then I'm anxious over how many there are and I just.... never repsond. i try to repsond to at least some of the, but I'm very anxious about how many unresponded comments I have. (My inbox currently sits at 1136, and I've cleared it out before.)

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Dusk. However, i have 2 more in the works that (assuming I ever finish them) may be worse.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Most of my fics have a happy ending, so I'm not sure what the MOST happy ending was. Maybe Save the Groom? I can't imagine STG James being any happier than he is in that epilogue.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Occasionally. It's rarely hate but I do occasionally get dissatisfaction, like "i don't like the way you ended this" or "I read the side along you wrote and I'm no longer interested in the main story" which is weird to get.

Lol, yes, and.... all kinds? Honestly, what does that mean. I've written MM, MF, and FF. Also Multi (though mostly MMM+). I've also written both vanilla and kink?

NOPE. Not something that really interests me, tbh.

Not that I'm aware of, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Yes, a few! I'm actually very fond of cowriting. Quietlemonhush and I have been working on cowriting more, and I adore working with him.

I'm not ready to call anything that's posted now and a WIP abandoned (though I know I occasionally get comments calling things abandoned). I think it's probably unlikely that I ever write my Voldy Wins AU at this point because I've been sitting on it for 2 years at this point, but it was never posted.

Worldbuilding and tension building, I think.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I've done it before, and I'm not a huge fan, tbh. I probably won't do it again unless I have a cowriter who is fluent. It's a pain if you don't know the language, and there's no way to really build the dialogue as you would in a language you know.
