(I couldn't be bothered to actually color the whole thing because its almost 11 PM rn)
(Also, basic info on why my AU's reacted how they did: King Puzzles sees Trickster as weird and silly, seeing him as nothing more than a possible toy or entertainment. Vampire is confused by the bright colors and cheerful personality, it reminds him of the SMG4 crew so he doesn't really like it, but doesn't hate it at the same time)

Thinking about 2012!Leo and Rise!Leo, and how if you look at them in the first episodes of their respective season 1 they actually are so much the same character at the base just with different upbringing, but what ends up making them different at the end of their series is actually a result of a thing they have in common:
That is, their tendency to emulate and play a role (which I've loved every post where I've seen people talk about this). Except their different upbringings meant they had very different role models (their tv show of choice and their dads) (especially their dads) and so the archetypes they developed themselves into changed.
2012!Leo was growing into, ehhh, I guess you could call it a Noble Warrior archetype? Whereas rise!Leo was going more, like, Trickster Hero. Which I think means that even if rise!Leo was able to reach the very end of his arc they would have functioned very differently as leaders, but in ways that were still very true to their characters!
(Admittedly everything has to be speculation and extrapolation on where characters were going in Rise, but...)
And I know I'm probably just rehashing ground others have already tread but I can't stop thinking about how that would play out. And also how in a crossover I kinda think even at their best the two Leos would maybe drive each other a bit crazy at first until they understood each other.
Like yes, yeah, 2012!Leo helping the newer/younger iteration work through his issues and insecurities to reach his full potential is GREAT, I always love reading it, but ALSO sometimes I want to see two developed leaders with different specialties (personal battle skills and commanding a flat-out fight vs ...idk how to put this, creative strategies and tactics? pseudo-diplomatic nonsense? ...defeating an enemy vs accomplishing a goal? the difference is this thing I can feel but am having trouble putting into words). I just think it would be interesting to see their different approaches to problem solving bounce off each other, whether they were working together or in a VS. situation.

I want Trucy to play a part, too, but she might just have one small bit, I am historically bad at adding a fourth character to a crew and staying on focus.
Anyway I dunno what the whole plan is here, just some ideas lol

Concept: a stealth puzzle game where the puzzles are how to correctly escape dangerous situations using the environment around you in realtime.
It would not be wholly dissimilar to well-established styles of video game puzzles, but instead of running around a map looking for a weird object to plug into a weird door to escape a monster, let's say you are trying to escape a bad guy within a narrow hallway, and you have to pull a nearby bookshelf down onto him at exactly the right moment. But what is the right moment? Do you use the bookshelf to block the hall and give you more time to escape, or do you wait to bring it down on top of him and maybe (???) stop him for good? You have to think and work it out strategically. You don’t really have weapons apart from stuff you can pick up nearby, and you have to be clever and resourceful to get the most benefit out of each item. Is this anything?

I'm reblogging this old meta in light of this new scene where Solas is shown interacting with other elven gods for the first time. Reminder that just about every mythological story that is told about Fen'Harel is one where the other gods attempt to capture him, but he eventually escapes due to cleverness. (And during Inquisition, Solas can even be put into a cage in Future Redcliffe, but he escapes due to very clever time travel magical shenanigans.)
Solas is (despite his claims to the contrary) in my opinion, serving as a mythological figure in this story. Trickster gods have ultimate power over defining boundaries. The boundaries between people, between things, between spaces, are the divine domain of trickster gods - thresholds, crossroads, barriers. In mythology, pantheons of gods often try to capture and imprison trickster gods, but because trickster gods are "lords of in-between" or lords of the very barriers that attempt to hold them, they cannot be kept prisoner.
For more of a deep-dive on the subject of trickster gods and what it means for Solas to be filling the role of a trickster god in Dragon Age (despite his protests), see this tag on my blog.
I would not find this important or compelling, but this idea of being captured but escaping is mentioned over and over and over again in the myths about Fen'Harel. What this means for DA4, I of course can't say for sure, but I think you can see where I'm going with this.
So I’m doing the puzzle of The Dead Hand in Ghilan’nain’s Grove when I realize the layout of the puzzle is telling a very specific story about Fen’Harel and Andruil that I don’t remember anyone pointing out before.
imo this puzzle gives in-game evidence to Felassan’s story in The Masked Empire about how Andruil tied Fen’Harel up to a tree and and “declared that he would have to serve in her bed for a year and a day to pay her back.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So the puzzle is a statue of Andruil that shoots arrows wildly at targets in four directions. What is preventing Andruil from hitting her targets? Four pillars that are right in her way.
Now, the designers could have left it at that and the puzzle still would have worked. It still would have characterized Andruil as someone who just wants to shoot everything in all directions wildly, someone with an insatiable desire for hunts and blood sacrifice.
But on top of each of these four pillars? Wolf statues of Fen’Harel.
Tumblr media
(the fourth wolf statue was already broken off the pillar)
So with that extra detail (that they did not need to include), this becomes a visual metaphor of Fen’Harel deliberately putting himself between Andruil and the trees. To solve the puzzle, you have to find some way of making Fen’Harel’s statue pillars move down so that Andruil can hit her tree targets.
And the most interesting detail, the one that made me snap to attention on my replay, was what happens when you finally light up the last tree (video). Little magic orbs come off and light more targets, which finally makes the bars imprisoning a small caged room open up.
What’s inside the caged room? The only thing is a large statue of Fen’Harel, cramped in the small room, staring at the imprisoning bars. You get the feeling that he was locked in that room, under Andruil’s control, but now that you’ve solved the puzzle, he’s free.
And how do you solve the puzzle? Cleverness, teamwork, and at one point, locking yourself up in a cell temporarily, so you can get another of your team members access to the right levers/torches.
It’s the same type of clever thinking that was needed to solve his petitioner’s path puzzle in the Temple of Mythal. (his was the trickiest one, the one with the levers)
There’s a lot in the mythos about Fen’Harel’s cleverness, how one of his main tricks was to make someone believe he was trapped and helpless, then free himself by forcing others to fight each other while he chewed off parts of himself to escape. Solas even talks about "choosing to enter this cage” at one point.
It makes me wonder just how often he does this sort of thing.
Merrill’s story about the Keeper’s Hound: “Neither hound nor wolf gave in. Finally, Fen’Harel bit off his own tail to escape, and away he fled.”
Solas (to low-approval Inquisitor): “Rattle the bars if you like, but I chose to enter this cage.”
Constellation of Fenrir Codex Entry: […] —in the case of Fenrir, an alignment with the elven trickster god, Fen'Harel, would be logical. Others claim a much older Neromenian tale of a wolf escaping hunters by fleeing into the sky exists […]
Felassan’s story of Fen’Harel and the Tree:  “Anaris fell with a golden arrow in his back, badly injured, and while both gods slumbered to heal their wounds, Fen'Harel chewed through his ropes and escaped.”
Cole comment (Trespasser): “He broke the dreams to stop the old dreams from waking. The wolf chews its leg off to escape the trap.”
