Side Effects Of Popular Home Remedies: What Not To Do To Treat Pimple Scars At Home
Tumblr media
Home remedies are easy and affordable for treating skin and pimple scars. However, these practices may cause major irreparable skin problems. Here are some popular remedies and their side effects.
In a world driven by social media and its everchanging trends, one may get caught up in baseless skincare tips and skin remedies without any scientific backing. These popular skin remedies may not always make your skin look flawless and cause your pimple scars to worsen, deteriorating your skin condition.
To know more about the issue, we spoke to Dr Nishtha Patel, MBBS, MD Dermatologist, Consultant Dermatologist, Kosmoderma. She highlighted the side effects of popular home remedies for skin to treat pimple scars.
Side Effects Of Home Remedies On Skin
Here are some popular home remedies to treat pimple scars and their side effects:
Lemon Juice
Lemon juice is believed to contain lighting properties due to its Vitamin C content. “Applying lemon juice directly on your face can irritate and burn the skin disrupting its natural pH, leading to dry and sensitive skin,” says, Dr Patel.
Baking Soda
Baking soda is often used for exfoliating, however, its extremely alkaline property can disturb the skin’s natural barrier causing skin irritation and dryness.
Toothpaste
Toothpaste is one of the most commonly used home remedies for flawless skin. However, due to their harmful contents like baking soda, hydrogen peroxide and alcohol, your skin may burn.
Picking or Squeezing
Our expert says, “It is a habit for many that they keep touching or picking their pimples, without realising that our hands carry a lot of germs which can worsen active acne. This can lead to infection and result in deeper scarring.”
Scrubbing
Instagram influencers have glorified the use of sugar and salts for exfoliating your skiing to remove dead skin and skin rejuvenation. However, the micro-tears this process causes on your skin can cause inflammation. Our expert advises, “Use gentle products designed for exfoliation for all skin types.”
Apple Cider Vinegar
One of the most popular home remedies, Apple Cider Vinegar is known for its antibacterial properties. Dr Patel says, “It can cause burns, irritation and prolonged redness on the skin disturbing its natural barrier and worsening its condition.”

I'm not entirely sure if this is really a sex ed thing but I've researching it myself a good few times and I'm still not really sure what it is I've got going on so I thought I'd ask you.
So for context I have a vagina, I've never had sex, and I don't shave. I very frequently get these sort of pimple, sort of cyst things in and around the skin of my pubic mound area. It's like a bad swollen pore but it never looks like a pimple, more like a hard bump just under the skin. They usually last around two or three weeks and then the fluid drains on its own. I've been getting then since I was 14 and I'm still not sure what they are or what causes them.
They don't seem to be very harmful, aside from leaving scars and occasionally causing pain, but theyre gross and they bug me. I was wondering if youd know what the deal is? If you do, would you have any advice on how to treat it? Thanks.
hi anon,
based on what you're describing, those are in fact pimples, which are caused by blocked pores around the genitals just like everywhere else on the body. totally normal, and nothing to worry about. try not to fuss with them or pick at them, even if they are annoying, since it can make them take much longer to go away and leave more scarring.

I mentioned a while ago how Mars conjunct, square or opposite the ascendant can give you scars. Especially facial scars. But yesterday, I had a realization about how the house Mars is in adds nuance to how you get and treat your scars, so listen up! Or read, in this case.
When Mars is conjunct the ascendant, it can be either in the 1st or 12th house. The 1st house is what people notice the most about you, while the 12th house is of the hidden stuff going on. So guess what happens when Mars is in the 12th house? You pick this pimple here, you pick that pimple there and you don't notice how you're getting more and more scars on your face, until it's too late and it hits you like a truck.
However, Mars in the 12th house can show that people ignore your scars, no matter how prominent they are, while someone with Mars in the 1st house can have people constantly noticing and commenting on their scars.
The house Mars is in also shows how you can treat your scars - in the 1st house, it shows that you will need to put in a lot of effort and make it a main point in your day to day to do all sorts of treatments and procedures to treat the scars, while Mars in the 12th house shows a bit of possivity being beneficial - you can treat your scars, apply a cream or whatever you are using once a day, but not pay too close attention to the scars and constantly thinking about them. A little bit of ignoring goes a long way here, because doing treatments without being hyperfixated on them can have your skin improving at a faster rate.
The same principle can apply to Mars in the other houses - Mars in the 7th house, opposing the ascendant equals you getting scars that are caused by someone else, like an aesthetician treating your skin wrong. ☽

this is my comprehensive guide to acne
my qualifications: years ago i had a guy take a picture of me and play connect the dots on my face (it was actually pretty funny and i made fun of him too bc he was 5’1 so it’s okay)
first of all don’t pop ur pimples for the love of god, i know everyone says that but what could likely happen is a short term problem can turn into a long term problem with scarring and damage to the skin barrier due to trauma to that surface layer of the skin, instead use things like pimple patches, most brands that make those cute colorful ones don’t really stick to the skin and so they are practically useless, a pimple patch is supposed to mimic a hydrocolloid bandage which draws liquid out of a wound, if the patch isn’t sticking well to the skin because you didn’t clean the area of skin first or the patch just isn’t very high quality again it is going to be practically useless, also micro dart patches are great, the micro darts go into the pimple and so not only are u drawing out the sebum, u are also putting whatever acne fighting substance into that pimple, my favorite brand for these is hero cosmetics, u can also use a hot/cold compress on the pimple to draw it to a head which will help ur products work better on that pimple
now for the nerdy stuff, chemical exfoliants are ideal at least for me because they aren’t physically abrasive like a scrub which again can cause trauma to the skin and then possible scarring, the ingredients that u want to look for that will chemically exfoliate the skin and help acne are benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, glycolic acid and others, u don’t need expensive products, pay attention to the ingredients and find one without fragrance and has the ingredients you want, and for acne scarring other than the ones i mentioned which are more focused on helping acne but also can help scarring are vitamin c, niacinamide, azelaic acid, vitamin a and others, my favorites are panoxyl products with benzoyl peroxide, and ordinary has some good things for glycolic acid and others
now the way u treat ur body can have a big impact on ur skin, i won’t tell u to drink water bc i think someone might stab me for it and i wouldn’t blame them but rlly it won’t hurt, fueling ur body and having a balanced diet can be huge, this doesn’t mean cutting things out for the most part it means adding things in like healthy fats and protein, this can help balance hormones which are huge factors in acne, also if u have a period u can consider going on birth control, again it can rlly help balance ur hormones and talk to ur doctor about one that specifically has been known to help acne, now if u can go to see a derm it’s a good choice, they can prescribe treatments at a higher concentration than u can get over the counter, they can also give u things like antibiotics which can be very beneficial and aren’t likely to have side effects, but they might recommend things like accutane and spirolactone, these are more likely to have side effects and u mostly can’t get anything like it without a dermatologists permission, this will likely mean blood tests, pregnancy tests and regular visits to check up on ur overall health because they can be very abrasive treatments
finally, wearing sunscreen and keeping ur skin moisturized are going to be huge, sun exposure can worsen acne scarring and most of these treatments are very drying so on top of sun exposure ur skin is also constantly being dried out, if u are nervous about breaking out from a sunscreen then do ur research on the ingredients and others experiences, also u can get tinted sunscreen or bb cream with SPF in it so that u can have some coverage of acne or scaring while also protecting ur skin from further damage
i’m sure i missed some things so if u have questions i’ll do my best to answer, i know how frustrating this can be which is why i made this post, remember that the way that u look is the least important thing about u and that u will never see urself the way others see u, it isn’t even close to as big of a deal as we think it is just like any other physical insecurity

I was on Instagram and somewhere this week I saw reel about how to get rid of stretch marks. It might be silly but I got a little annoyed.
It's okay if you don't like then and don't want to have them, but at the same time - we do our best normalize things that are NORMAL about our bodies and then the next second we treat them like it's something that we shouldn't have.
I am just so done with that. Let people actually be people, let human be humans!
It's okay to have stretch marks, it's okay to have acne pimples or marks, it's okay to pores on your face, it's okay if you have scars, it's okay to not have perfect glass skin, it's okay to not have that "perfect" body that instagram tries to sell you, it's okay to not have flat stomach, it's okay to not have the same body shape as others, it's okay if you don't have sharp jawline and your face is round
It's okay for you to be the way you are! It's okay if you want to change things about yourself to feel better, but it's also okay if you don't feel like changing anything because you're happy with yourself. As long as you're happy and healthy, you don't have to change everything!

I have a pimple on my right cheek and a tiny one on my forehead. Today, ten people pointed it out nine of them were my relatives, and one, my friend. I gave them a good reply, but deep inside, I couldn't help but reflect on the way people perceive and point out such things.
Just because I take care of my skin and body doesn’t mean I’m trying to be flawless every moment of every day. It’s natural for a person to have a pimple, just as it’s natural for the sun to rise and set. Why do we treat the tiniest imperfections as if they diminish our worth? Caring for ourselves isn’t about chasing perfection or becoming immune to life’s little disruptions. It’s about loving the body we have, even when it doesn’t fit someone else’s idea of beauty.
Respect your body because the body is the temple of your soul. That’s why I take care of myself not to please the world but because I respect this vessel that holds my spirit. I take walks, apply skincare, and nourish myself not to prevent every blemish or stay 'pretty' in someone else's eyes, but because I love this body that I live in. No pimple or flaw could ever take away the beauty that comes from selflove.
Some days, people forget that our bodies are temporary. We forget that, in the end, nobody remembers the little pimples, scars, or stretch marks. What remains is how we made them feel how we loved them, how we lived with joy and grace. There will come a time when our bodies age, and no one looks at them the way they once did. But even then, we won’t be any less beautiful. Beauty is something much deeper than skin.
Just because we care for our bodies doesn’t mean we won’t get sick or have days where we don’t feel our best. And that’s okay. It’s part of being human. But to point out someone’s imperfections, things they can’t change in a second that’s what’s truly flawed. If you want to bring something to light, talk about the qualities that make a person grow their kindness, their courage, their soul. After all, you cannot change your face, but you can change the expression on it. You cannot change your body, but you can change the way you live in it.
Tumblr media
We don’t need to chase after beauty standards that tell us we must be flawless to be loved. I go for walks, not to look pretty, but because I love it. 💜A few days ago, I went walking with a friend, and we sat down by a tree. There was one particular tree vibrant and full of life that stood out to me. I looked at it and said, “I relate to this tree. It’s happy, loving, and living.” My friend laughed and said, “You relate to everything! How can you possibly relate to a tree?” But it was more than just a silly moment. There was a truth in what I felt. That tree didn’t need to be anything other than what it was it was alive, and that was enough. I think that’s true for us, too. We just need to be alive in our own way, and that’s enough.✨
When people look at me and see a flaw a pimple, a scar, or even when I’m not at my healthiest I don’t feel less beautiful because I know that beauty is more than what people see. I take care of myself because I love this life. I care for my skin, not to be perfect, but because it feels good to nurture myself. I apply oil to my hair, and while I’m at it, I massage my mother’s and sister’s hair because I want them to feel loved and cared for, too.❤️
I remember a few days ago, I made something healthy to eat and ran after my sister, telling her to try it. I didn’t do it because I’m obsessed with health, but because I love her, and I want her to be well. I chase after my sister, too, making sure she eats something good with me, hoping she’ll get the vitamins she needs. I even sneakily apply oil to my father’s hair, despite his protests. He might not like it, but I know it’s good for him. These small acts of care are what make life meaningful.✨🐢
Love is the only real nourishment. It’s not just about loving yourself it’s about pouring love into others, too. We’re here to care for each other. Life becomes more beautiful when we stop obsessing over tiny flaws and start nurturing the people we love. We’re all connected, like that tree I saw on my walk. It was living, breathing, and giving life to the world without worrying about being perfect.✨
Tumblr media
A pimple, an illness, or a bad day doesn’t take away from who we are. These things are just a reminder that we’re human. They’re part of the experience of living in a body. What matters is how we live in it how much we love it, care for it, and cherish the people around us while we’re here.
Taking care of ourselves is a gift, not a burden. And it’s not about fixing flaws but about appreciating the body that carries us through life. And when we take care of others whether it's massaging their hair, sharing a meal, or just being there for them we're creating beauty that’s far more meaningful than physical appearance.
To be creative means to be in love with life. You can be creative only if you love life enough to want to enhance its beauty. When we take care of ourselves, our bodies, and the people around us, we’re enhancing the beauty of life itself.
So, the next time someone points out a pimple, a flaw, or an imperfection, remember this: we are far more than what they see. The love we give, the joy we bring, and the care we show that’s what makes us truly beautiful. Life isn’t about being flawless; it’s about being alive and full of love.❤️✨

Hi Sex Witch,
So this isn’t about sex really but it is a concern I have in regards to my body. So I am really bad at picking at scabs, pimples, bumps, you name it, and I have been completely unable to shake the habit. And I get this kind of acne on my face, shoulders, back, and boobs. And I’ve got scars as well from how much I’ve picked.
I’ve gotten some meds (twice a day pills and a lotion) but at least for the pills, they need to be taken with a glass of water and it’s recommended that they be taken with some food in the stomach. I usually take my meds right when I wake up so that I don’t forget since I have ADHD. Which means that I usually forget the acne meds in the morning, and I’ve not ever had meds in the evening so I rarely take them then. I don’t even know if they actually work because I take them so rarely.
My main concern is that if I ever get breast cancer, I won’t know because bumps are already so common on my boobs.
I know that the best solution would be to just stop picking but I don’t know how to actually do that. I guess the other obvious thing to do would be to actually be taking my meds consistently but I also don’t really know how to get into that routine.
I don’t really know what advice you can offer about this but I figure it doesn’t hurt to ask
Also thank you so much for answer questions all the time, I think your blog is really great and really appreciate how supportive you are when people ask questions
✨💙✨ <— just so that I know this was mine when I see it
hi anon,
one of the best things you can do to help head off this fear would be learning about practicing breast self-exams and recognizing when a change in your breast is something different than the bumps you're used to.
bumpy breasts aren't the only warning sign of breast cancer (nor are they always a sign of breast cancer; about 4/5 of bumps are caused by something else). according to the American Cancer Society, a more complete list of warning signs includes:
Swelling of all or part of a breast (even if no lump is felt)
Skin dimpling (sometimes looking like an orange peel)
Breast or nipple pain
Nipple retraction (turning inward)
Nipple or breast skin that is red, dry, flaking, or thickened
Nipple discharge (other than breast milk)
Swollen lymph nodes under the arm or near the collar bone (Sometimes this can be a sign of breast cancer spread even before the original tumor in the breast is large enough to be felt.)
being familiar enough with your breasts to quickly notice any of these changes and seek medial consultation if you're worried is important preventative care!
also, this is important: I don't know how old you are, but unless you have a family history of developing breast cancer early, it's unlikely that you need to seriously worry about this until you start approaching your fifties. by all means learn the signs and how to be proactive, especially if it will grant you some peace of mind, and feel free to express your concerns with your healthcare provider, but also please let this relieve some anxiety if you're not yet in the age range where breast cancer is most likely.

♃. healing scars;
If you see Jupiter in a sextile or trine to your Venus, Mars (if it aspects your ascendant/Venus) or ascendant, definitely go ahead and treat your skin problems in that timeframe.
As someone that has Mars aspecting the ascendant, I deal with scars. Every little pimple leaves its mark on my skin.
So Jupiter forming a sextile or trine to my Venus or Mars is always a great time, because my scars start fading way faster than they usually do. Thankfully, Jupiter is slower-moving, so it gives more time to take advantage of. ☽

3 Types of Patches for Acne and Pimple Treatments
Hydrocolloid patches have been used by doctors for many years to treat open wounds.
These patches consist of three layers:
Adhesive Layer: The layer that sticks to the skin.
Hydrocolloid Layer: This middle layer contains ingredients that act as “gunk magnets,” pulling out impurities from open pimples and acne.
Outer Layer: The thick, visible layer that holds the patch together.
What Do Hydrocolloid Patches Work On?
These patches only work on open pimples (with white heads) and acne. They are not effective on closed pimples or blackheads.
How Do They Help?
Hydrocolloid patches speed up the healing process by:
Removing gunk: The hydrocolloid layer pulls out impurities, making it easier for new skin to heal.
Protecting against UV rays: They provide partial protection against UV rays, preventing further inflammation and damage.
Retaining moisture: These patches help the skin retain moisture, which is essential for healing.
Preventing bacterial infection: They protect the area from environmental bacteria and contaminants.
Preventing skin picking: The patch discourages you from touching or picking the area, reducing the risk of further inflammation, scarring, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
Important Note
Not all patches are beneficial for healing. Some may even worsen the area, which I’ll discuss later in this video.
The Three Types of Patches
1. Plain Hydrocolloid Patches
These are simple hydrocolloid patches without additional skincare ingredients. The hydrocolloid layer does most of the work by pulling out gunk from the open pimples or acne.
Product Recommendations:
Derma Do Invisible Patches
PM Overnight Patches
COSRX Acne Pimple Patch
Hero Mighty Patch
NE Scale Patches
Bodywise Hydrocolloid Patch
Patches to Avoid: Gush Patches, which contain citrus oils and fragrances—ingredients that can irritate inflamed areas.
How to Use:
Cleanse your face thoroughly.
Apply the patch directly to the pimple or acne area, without applying any skincare products underneath the patch.
After applying the patch, you can gently apply skincare products to the rest of your face, but not over the wound or patch.
2. Hydrocolloid Patches with Skincare Ingredients
These patches contain additional ingredients like salicylic acid, tea tree oil, botanical oils, hyaluronic acid, or benzoyl peroxide. The idea is to deliver healing ingredients directly to the affected area.
Some patches have both a hydrocolloid section and skincare ingredients, while others may just have the skincare ingredient without the hydrocolloid part.
Important Points:
Skincare ingredients in patches are more concentrated than when applied to the entire face or as a spot treatment. Therefore, a lower concentration is recommended.
Avoid patches with botanical oils or tea tree oil, as sealing these ingredients on an inflamed area can cause irritation.
Hyaluronic acid patches are beneficial as they hydrate the skin.
How to Use:
Cleanse your face.
Ensure no skincare product is applied under the patch.
Place the patch directly on the clean, affected area.
Product Recommendations:
Numa Pimple Patch
Peace Out Skincare Patch
3. Hydrocolloid Patches with Microneedles
These are similar to the second type but contain tiny microneedles that help push the skincare ingredients deeper into the skin. The microneedles are painless.
Important Points:
Avoid patches with botanical oils or tea tree oil, as they can irritate the skin.
Stay away from patches containing perfume, as fragrance can aggravate the area.
Product Recommendations:
Mighty Patch
ZitSticka
Dermaco Microtip Patch
Final Warning About All Three Types of Patches
Remember, these patches don’t treat acne directly; they aid in healing by creating a safe environment for recovery. They are also useful for mosquito bites, as they prevent you from scratching the affected area, helping it heal faster.

CW: Discussion about beauty standards, skin, scars and my own negative experiences with it
Aren't your twenties meant to be your absolute peak? You're the prettiest you'll ever be, the most stylish, the strongest, the most easily consumed, and the barer of more time than you're supposed to know what to do with.
Aren't you immortal? Isn't you visage meant to be forever frozen as a thin, white twenty-something girl with perfect, glowing skin? No? I guess 96% of us are out of luck.
I see everyone around me frantic and afraid with the time they apparently don't have. Once a month they go down to the city to get preventative Botox in an infrared sauna with a quick round of cool-sculpting for dessert. They're running up credit card debt with money they saved for textbooks at Sephora, Ulta, Credo, and SkinStore because this lotion will be the one! It will lighten their face five shades, blur their scars, and shrink their pores in a week.
I see them when I look in the mirror and I see the the valleys around my mouth that are bound to turn into wrinkles later on. And there's this one little indent on my forehead that I can't work out whether it's a fine line forming or my foundation that settled wrong. The sides of my thighs have little blue veins and cellulite you can really only see I'm stretching on the barre and I'm not really sure what to do about it.
Most of the shiny, pink, raised pimples have faded into reddish splotches all over my chest and back and jawline, but they're still there. No amount of BHA, retinol, sugar scrub, balm, oil, or moisturizer has put a dent in them. All the women in my family said their skin magically cleared once they left high school, like the diploma would be some kind of protective totem against papules. It never did, by the way. I don't think this is what women have in mind when they say they want to have "the skin of a teenager".
I'm vigorous, near obsessive with my skin and body care. I double cleanse, tone, treat, moisturize, and use a noncomedogenic sunscreen. I can count on one hand the number of times I've slept in makeup, I take my vitamins, I drink my water, I change my pillow cases, I wash my clothes in gentle hypoallergenic detergent.
Some days though I wake up and struggle with the realization that this is all I can do. I can care for myself in every which way, but it doesn't change that today is the youngest I will ever be again. I'll never have as much collagen in my skin tomorrow as I do today. One of the hairs I lose today might not grow back tomorrow.
Aging is such an incredible privilege, this I know better than anyone. A month ago my cousin reminded me of this when taking one bad pill left her twenty seven forever. My uncle locked himself in his bedroom after he got back from rehab a few years back and is now thirty-five for the rest of my life. I am grateful for life, and breathing, and aging, but the world I live in doesn't make it any easier to accept the consequences of it.
I hope I'm not alone in this.

11 Skin Conditions You’ve Almost Certainly Never Heard Of
Tumblr media
Millions of people in India suffer from at least one skin condition. You’ve probably heard of the more common ones, such as acne, eczema, and rosacea. In fact, there’s a strong possibility you have one yourself.
There are also a number of uncommon skin problems that you may be unaware of. They can range in severity from minor to fatal. They can have an impact on the quality of life of persons who develop them in some situations.
Continue reading for an overview of some of these lesser-known conditions.
Hidradenitis suppurativa
Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory disorder that causes lesions to grow on skin-to-skin contact points on the body. The following are the most prevalent locations for breakouts:
underarms, groin, buttocks, upper thighs, and breasts
Although the etiology of HS is uncertain, hormones are likely to play a role in its development because it often begins around puberty.
The illness affects up to 2% of the population. It is especially common in those who are obese or who smoke. Women are more than three times as likely than men to have HS.
Genetics and the immune system are thought to play a role in who gets the condition.
DID YOU KNOW?
People who have hidradenitis suppurativa are more likely to have specific conditions (or comorbidities), such as:
inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) acne
Acne conglobata, dissecting cellulitis of the scalp, and pilonidal sinus disease are all part of the follicular occlusion tetrad (a collection of inflammatory skin disorders).
metabolic disorder
PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome)
Type 2 diabetes with squamous cell carcinoma of the afflicted skin
The first signs of HS are outbreaks that resemble pimples or boils. These outbreaks could remain on the skin or fade and recur.
If neglected, more severe symptoms like scarring, infection, and breakouts that rupture and produce a foul-smelling fluid might develop.
There is presently no cure for HS, however there are several therapy options to assist control symptoms. These are some examples:
topical ointments, anti-inflammatory medications, injectable biologics, and hormone therapy
In more severe situations, surgery may be recommended.
Psoriasis inversa
Intertriginous psoriasis is another name for inverse psoriasis. This illness, like HS, causes red sores on regions of the body where skin touches skin. These lesions do not resemble boils. They appear smooth and gleaming.
Many persons who have inverse psoriasis have at least one other type of psoriasis on their body. Experts aren’t clear what causes psoriasis, but genetics and the immune system both play a role.
Psoriasis affects roughly 3% of the world’s population, and 3–7% of those with psoriasis have inverse psoriasis.
Because the skin in high-friction parts of the body is sensitive, treating the condition can be challenging. Steroid creams and topical ointments can be beneficial, but they can also cause unpleasant irritation if used excessively.
People with more severe inverse psoriasis may also require UVB light therapy or injectable biologics to manage their illness.
Harlequin ichthyosis
Harlequin ichthyosis is an uncommon genetic condition that causes children to be born with rough, thick skin covered in diamond-shaped scales.
These plates, which are separated by deep fissures, can shape their eyelids, mouth, nose, and ears. They can also impede limb and chest movement.
Around 200 instances have been recorded around the world. The disorder is caused by a mutation in the ABCA12 gene, which permits the body to produce a protein required for normal skin cell formation.
The mutation hinders lipid transfer to the skin’s top layer, resulting in the scale-like plates. Because of the plates, it is more difficult to:
control water loss
combat illness by regulating body temperature
Harlequin ichthyosis is an autosomal recessive condition caused by faulty genes inherited from both parents.
Because biological carriers rarely show symptoms, genetic testing can detect changes in genes and calculate your risk of developing or passing on genetic illnesses.
A stringent regimen of skin-softening emollients and skin-repairing moisturizers is the most popular treatment for harlequin ichthyosis. Oral retinoids may also be utilized in extreme situations.
Morgellons syndrome
Morgellons disease is an uncommon ailment that causes microscopic fibers and particles to emerge from skin wounds, giving the impression that something is crawling on the skin.
The Morgellons Disease is poorly understood, although it affects nearly 14,000 families, according to the Morgellons Research Foundation.
Morgellons disease is most common in middle-aged Caucasian women. It’s also closely linked to Lyme disease.
Because the symptoms are similar to those of a mental health illness known as delusional infestation, some experts assume it is a psychological issue.
The symptoms are unpleasant but not life-threatening. Typical symptoms include:
weariness anxiety sadness itchy skin rashes or sores black fibrous substance in and on the skin
Lesions only affect one part of the body: the head, trunk, or extremities.
There is no standard treatment option for Morgellons disease because it is still poorly understood.
People suffering with the disease are usually encouraged to maintain close contact with their healthcare team and seek therapy for symptoms such as anxiety and depression.
Elastoderma
Elastoderma is an uncommon disorder characterized by increased skin looseness in particular parts of the body. As a result, the skin sags or hangs down in loose folds.
It can affect any region of the body, but the neck and extremities, particularly the elbows and knees, are the most usually afflicted.
The illness affects less than one in one million persons worldwide. Elastoderma’s actual cause is unknown. It is assumed to be caused by an excess of elastin, a protein that provides structural support to organs and tissues.
Elastoderma has no cure or recommended treatment. Some people will have surgery to remove the problematic area, although the loose skin often returns after the procedure.
Pilonidal sinusitis
Pilonidal sinus illness causes small holes or tunnels at the buttocks’ base or crease. Because symptoms aren’t always clear, most people don’t seek therapy or even recognize the issue until it causes problems.
It is caused when the hair between the buttocks rubs together. The friction and pressure that results pushes the hair inside, causing it to become ingrown.
This minor illness affects 10 to 26 people in every 100,000. The majority of people with this illness are between the ages of 15 and 30, and men are twice as likely as women to have it.
It frequently affects persons who work occupations that demand long periods of sitting. It is often associated with hidradenitis suppurativa (HS).
A few things influence treatment for an infected pilonidal sinus:
signs and symptoms
the size of the abscess, if it is a new or recurring infection
In most cases, treatment entails removing any visible pus from the affected pilonidal sinus. Antibiotics, hot compresses, and topical ointments are also frequently utilized.
If you’re one of the 40% of people with the illness who has reoccurring abscesses, talk to your doctor about other surgical alternatives.
Pemphigus vegetans
Pemphigus is classified as an autoimmune illness by the National Institutes of Health (NIH)Trusted Source. It causes your immune system to target healthy epidermal cells. The epidermis is the top layer of the skin.
Lesions or blisters form where skin naturally meets or rubs together, as in HS. They can also be found in or on the:
mouth, throat, eyes, nose, and genital areas
Pemphigus vulgaris is the most common kind of pemphigus. It affects 0.1 to 2.7 persons in every 100,000.
Pemphigus vegetans, a pemphigus vulgaris variation, accounts for 1 to 2% of pemphigus cases globally.
If untreated, Pemphigus vegetans can be lethal. The treatment focuses on removing the lesions or blisters and preventing them from recurring.
Corticosteroids and other anti-inflammatory steroids are frequently used as the first line of defense. In addition, you can have surgery to remove the lesions or blisters, while also cleaning and dressing the affected area on a daily basis.
Medicated mouthwash or clobetasol, a corticosteroid and ointment used to treat oral problems, are examples of mouth and throat remedies.
Crohn’s disease
Crohn’s disease is an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) of the digestive tract.
It affects around 780,000 Indians. Every year, approximately 38,000 new cases are reported. Researchers believe that genetics, the immune system, and the environment all have a role in Crohn’s disease development.
Between 20 and 33 percent of persons with Crohn’s disease have skin lesions as a result of the condition. This is referred to as a cutaneous epidemic.
Cutaneous lesions, which resemble genital warts, appear after bowel disease has shown on the skin or another organ outside of the intestinal tract. The eyes, liver, and gallbladder are all included. It might also have an impact on the joints.
If your Crohn’s disease and lesions have metastasized, or spread, they can become painful and potentially lethal. There are currently few therapy options for this stage.
Sneddon-Wilkinson syndrome
Sneddon-Wilkinson illness is characterized by clusters of pus sores on the skin. Subcorneal pustular dermatosis (SPD) is another name for it.
Experts are unsure what is causing it. The disease, which is uncommon and sometimes misunderstood, primarily affects persons over the age of 40, particularly women. As a result, its precise prevalence is uncertain.
Soft, pus-filled pimples occur between skin that rubs together a lot, just like in HS. Skin lesions appear on the body, between skin folds, and in the vaginal area. They “explode” as a result of friction.
This popping of the lesions may be accompanied by an itchy or burning feeling. These feelings are followed by scaling and discolouration of the skin. Despite being chronic and painful, this skin ailment is not lethal.
The antibiotic dapsone is the preferred treatment for this condition, with a daily dose of 50 to 200 milligrams (mg) taken orally.
Lichen planus
Inverse lichen planus pigmentosus is an inflammatory disorder that causes skin fold discolouration and uncomfortable pimples.
Only about 20 cases have been documented worldwide, mostly affecting Asians. Nobody knows what is causing it.
Small clusters of flat lesions, or macules, of discolored skin appear. They don’t normally contain pus, but they do occasionally. Some people’s skin spontaneously clears up with time, whilst others may experience symptoms for years.
This is a mild condition that can be addressed with a topical treatment. Corticosteroids are the most often used treatments for wound healing and can even aid with pigmentation in some situations.
Dowling-Degos syndrome
Dowling-Degos disease is a hereditary illness that causes darker skin, especially in folds such as the armpit, groin, and joint areas.
Pigment changes can also affect the neck, hands, cheeks, and scalp, albeit they are less prevalent.
The majority of the lesions are minor and resemble blackheads, however red areas resembling acne might form around the lips.
Lesions on the scalp might also look as fluid-filled lumps. Itching and burning sensations are possible.
Skin changes, like HS, occur in late childhood or early adolescence.
However, some people do not have breakouts until they reach maturity. Dowling-Degos is not a life-threatening disease, but it can cause distress and worry in those who have it.
This disease presently has no cure. Treatments ranging from laser therapy to topical steroids to retinoids have been tried, but results have been mixed, and nothing has proven to be consistently successful.
Takeaway
If you have a skin issue, pay attention to your body and treat any signs seriously.
Consult your doctor who can assist you in obtaining a diagnosis and determining the best treatment options for your specific problems.
