I didn't believe this post on facebook. I mean, what kind of monsters would stop money for food from getting to children living in poverty? It couldn't be true, right? Here's what I found…

• Republicans control Missouri's offices of governor, secretary of state, attorney general, and both chambers of the state legislature. They turned down the money because of "dysfunction of the communication between different departments”. In other words, the Republican dysfunction is so bad, they can't coordinate how to get this money for food to the kids who need it. —Incompetent.

• Nebraska's Republican governor stopped the federal money, saying, “I don't believe in welfare." So, this Republican would literally prefer to see 175,000 children in his own state be malnourished, rather than let them receive help to pay for food. —Heartless.

• Iowa's Republican governor blocked the federal money because she's concerned about "childhood obesity". Unbelievably, this Republican's crazy "logic" is to deprive meals to all the starving children because some children are overweight. —Cruel.

And so, Who is responsible for this inhumanity — is it: the incompetent Republican Politicians who promote such heartless cruelty -or- the Voters who keep electing them?

I'm rereading Twelve Moons And A Fortnight for the 4th time, as well as dipping into your other fics - I love the world(s) you've created so much!

I want to ask about the thing I'm kind of still confused about: how exactly does Wei Ying (and Xichen as well) actuallt cultivate a child? Is it your JC that they do some kind of intensive meditation that creates one from a golden core? Or does the soul that wants to reincarnate pick them or what?

Always the former, sometimes both. The parent's golden core has to set aside an amount of "extra" energy equal to the total energy the child's body would contain, once born; and after the parent stockpiles enough energy, the child is able to use the parent's body as a kind of template to construct a body of its own. This is why the infant spirit of Lan Jingyi spends so much time wandering around Lan Xichen's body in Life in Love's Exchange; he's learning how human bodies work so that he can manifest one after LXC saves up enough energy to create it.

Re: reincarnation, this is the only way someone without a golden core can cultivate a baby in the TMAAF verse. When Jiang Yanli's soul was ready to reincarnate, she went to her original birthplace of Lotus Pier and found that two of Jiang-furen's dead relatives were waiting to be reincarnated as her children; and by the time she traveled to Lanling, Jin Zixuan's spirit had already chosen Jin Ling as his future father. I was just rereading the Paris pages, and like. I’m losing my mind at the way that these two characters view death. Andronicus’s absolute refusal to die, the way he STATES that he is not Done, his refusal to accept that death is beyond his control, is so indicative of his character and ruling style. You can see the shadow of what he was before whatever happened to him, his once-present charisma, the way he is used to being obeyed, and his absolute refusal to be anything less than In Charge in his declaration.

Directly contrasting that is Voltaire’s line “May I last until my work is done.” Voltaire accepts that he can’t control everything and he is willing to admit he isn’t all powerful. This admittance seems to be the main difference between Voltaire and Andronicus- Voltaire was successful as a ruler because he was willing to delegate and create secondary systems capable of running his city, while Andronicus was too obsessed with absolute control to the point that he destroyed himself.
