STAR WARS EPISODE II: Attack of the Clones 00:35:03 - 00:35:06
Something interesting here that I don't think I've seen in any other installment that features Gran, is that this one looks to be wearing a hat!

Hiii it's me again, here to ask about Yan Tugs. You've written alot about the Stars... but what about the Zeds? I assume they'd be much more brutal considering Zeros implied connection to the mafia I'd think they'd resort to violence quicker than the Stars.
Welcome back!!!
Oh, I haven’t forgotten about them. When I originally answered, I included them and their life with y/n, but scrapped it due to my habits of long and detailed paragraphs (nowadays I tried to simplify, but it didn’t seem to work well).
I’ll try to memorize what I wrote down for the Z-stacks + Captain Douchebag Zero:
For being tough looking and (likely) dangerous, the Z-stacks seem to hold a soft spot for y/n. Under one condition: don’t run away, be well behaved, and show your affection to them and them only.
Show any affection to any outsiders (mainly the Star Fleet), or misbehaving, and it’s the Dark room for you (will explain this later).
Captain Zero may lose his temper and toss papers at y/n out of frustration (either from his fleet’s stupidity or whatever), he always apologizes y/n in private and washing them with gifts.
When y/n escapes the Star Fleet, they ran to a canal, tripped on something, and fell aside towards the canal. Luckily y/n landed on a floorboard, but quickly realized how a floorboard be in the watery path and a chuckle was heard. Y/n landed on Zorran’s floorboard and now is stuck with the Zero Fleet against their will (again).
The Z-stacks and their captain are paranoid, but Zero and Zorran are the worst. Zero had y/n surveillance nearly every day (forcing them to be his assistant), only left y/n to sleep (plus he locked them in their little bedroom every night). Zorran always takes y/n with him under Zero’s request for fresh air. If either are extremely busy, they pawn them up off duty zs.
Zip & Zug are Zorran’s go-tos, Zeebede sometimes watched them, and Zak is the last resort.
The remaining stacks were more chill than their leader and captain, but that doesn’t mean they get out of pocket.
One time Zak, Zug, and Zip were chasing down a not one, but TWO TRAMPERS for looking y/n and breathing the wrong way (not really the reason, but in reality the trampers quietly asked a distraught y/n with concern, and that’s when the z-stacks screamed like banshees and started chasing them)
Once in a blue moon, horror finds y/n when they witness Zak and the rest squashed a random foul mouthed sailor to death, because that bastard came out of nowhere and start swearing at people (and y/n was in the wrong place at the wrong time). Y/n won’t forget the crunch of broken bones and the deranged laughter of the Z-stacks, and had since desensitized.
When y/n isn’t watching, a Z-stack or two are always hidden in plain sight, watching and hearing. If they heard something y/n say they don’t like (i.e. talking to strangers, Star stacks, purposeful food strikes, or planning to escape), they report and punishment is awaited.
Depending on y/n’s ‘crimes’, minor punishments including are: scolding, revoking y/n’s outside privileges, and silent treatment. Median punishments are more silent treatments, withelding food, limiting drinking of water, and revoking bed privileges, and a hand smacking by Zero.
Final and most max are: yeeting y/n to the Dark room and locked them in (4-10 hours at best, nearly a week at worst in isolation)
The Dark room is a tiny cramped room by a small door, inside is mostly empty and a bit dusty. There is no natural light source, no flashlight, except for six tealight candles and a flatted out hayloft as a bed.
The Dark room is located near an abandoned building next to Zero Marine, nobody knows what it was used for, but the Zero Fleet now used it as a solitary confinement for a particular Little Z (a.k.a. you).
Y/n will be release from their prison and rejoice with the Z-stacks once they gave an apology and doing office chores to earn back their rights, they until then y/n must behave. Or back to the Dark room…
Man, that was so much to type on phone. I barely realized how little I wrote about the Z-stacks (minus Zorran), but that’s fine, I’ll write more about them in another post hehe.
If you guys want another post about y/n and their interactions with each Z-stack or want a short story about them, you can via asks!
Have a great day! <3

election vent: possible trigger warning
anyone else fucking terrified for the election? like I'm a minor. a trans autistic minor, and i cant vote. this is my life on the line and it doesn't matter who wins. kamala wins, trampers get mad and we have another January 6th. trump wins and i'm dead. either i get killed or i kill myself.
also not to mention my gut wrenching fear kamala is lying to us all and will end up not doing what she said and take away rights. i know its irrational but still. if i cold vote i think i would still vote for her. i don't agree with everything she says and thinks there could be much better candidates but when its kamala vs trump. kamala is who i'm voting for without a doubt. as my friend said its not whos the best, its whos the least worst.
I'm finally getting to be myself and get my preferred name on things and I'm about to get a fucking diagnoses. i don't want my diagnosis to be used against me. i have chronic health conditions i wont be able to go to school if trump wins and actually goes through with project 2025 cause i wont be able to get accommodations, not like i can now at least. its like the rug is being pulled fro beneath me.
my mom has a dermatologist appointment the day after the election to remove a mole on her ear and her biggest fear is if trump wins people will think shes a trumper cause of the band aid. i think she's joking but its a reminder not everyone will be deathly afraid even though everyone will be effected if trump wins.

Rufous Fantail
Fantails use their broad tails to change direction quickly while hunting for insects. They sometimes hop around upside-down amongst tree ferns and foliage to pick insects from the underside of leaves They seldom feed on the ground. Fantails use three methods to catch insects.
Fantails have also learned to follow humans and catch insects that are disturbed as we push through the plants. These clever birds will dart round and round and even in-between trampers' bare legs, to snatch up these tiny insects!

The Other Port
(Chapter 5)
.:: Scraping It Off ::.
Ten cents slowly began to wake up, he began to contemplate the events that unfolded last night. It felt like such a weird dream and yet it felt so real, The Other Captain, Other O.J. and Top Hat, even Sunshine was there too. Was it even a dream?
Then Ten Cents began to realize something; It was morning, the barracks looked… normal. Gone was the lively, rich, bright, and colorful bedroom, now he was back to plain boring barracks he knew.
“Are we back in our world?...” Ten Cents whispers to himself not feeling sure if they’re really back.
Ten Cents gets off from his bunk bed and looks on the bunk above him to see if Sunshine was okay. He was relieved when he saw Sunshine still here and sleeping peacefully.
“Maybe this was a crazy dream after all,” Ten Cents thought to himself as he began to wake Sunshine up in a calm and gentle manner. “SUNSHINE! GET UP IT’S MORNING!!”
Sunshine jolted awake from the sudden loud voice from Ten Cents, “What?! What?! What’s going on?!” Sunshine shouted, looked around and noticed how everything was back to normal.
“Ten Cents, What was that for?!” Sunshine shouted,
“Hey, you know i’m just messing with ya” teased Ten Cents
“But not when I'm sleeping, man.” Sunshine remarked, sighing in frustration.
“Not while we’re sleeping too,” a voice suddenly spoke up accompanied by a head poking up from another bunk; It was Top Hat,
“We’re working in a difficult time, you two. We employees of Star Tug & Marine have a position to keep up, we need to get as much rest as we can so we have more energy to do work early in the morning.”
Before Ten Cents could reply, a pair of groans cut him off, “Come off it, Top Hat, at least they’re up early and bright, unlike you,” Big Mac scoffed, Warrior laughed at this.
Before Top Hat could retort, the PA speaker turned on, accompanied by small feedback from it.
“Good Morning Star Fleet, I see everyone is already up so we can skip the wake up call and get to the announcements. As of now we’re going to have to work even harder than before for this week following the accident that occurred yesterday. Big Mac and Warrior you’re going to be assisting Hercules with the docking and unloading of another tramper, Top Hat you're on garbage detail today after that you’re to transport the rail fairies across the port, and since O.J isn’t available, I’ll have to ask Captain Zero to lend one of his employees to do his duties in the meantime-”
“But Captain,” protested Top Hat, “can’t one of us do O.J’s jobs, we’re more than capable of handling his work as well as our own.”
“I would but I’m afraid O.J’s duties would be too much to handle on top of your already scheduled duties. And I can’t spare my youngest employees to do them because of what happened recently.”
“Can’t we just do O.J’s work as a punishment?” asked Sunshine.
I let out a sigh, “I would Sunshine, but I’m afraid that because of the companies you three kept waiting as well as making a fool out of the company in front of the tramper’s crew, no one at the moment is going to trust you with your duties.”
I couldn’t see the expressions of my young employees, but I could sense they felt worse after what I said.
“You three are just going to have to start from the bottom and work yourselves back to the top starting with scraping the barnacles off of pier 3, Scuttlebutt Pete will meet you there and supervise your work. That is all, best of luck to all of you.”
The P.A speaker let out a crack and a squeal as I turned it off. All of my employees set off to do their assigned jobs of the day, as they walked out the entrance Ten Cents and Sunshine couldn’t help but feel as though Top Hat was staring coldly at them.
Ten Cents and Sunshine were quiet to each other as they made their way to Pier 3. Some ways into their journey, Ten Cents decided to speak up, “I’m sorry for waking you up the way I did, Sunshine, but... do you remember what happened last night?”
Sunshine paused for a moment then asked “You mean with the Other Captain, the Other Top Hat, and the Other O.J, even the food he gave us?"
“Yeah all of that.” Ten Cents replied.
“How do you know all of that? I thought it was just a dream I had,” Sunshine asked perplexed.
“I was there with you and you were there with me. It was weird, the whole thing had to have been some dream of sorts right?” Ten Cents ventured.
“I suppose, but how do you know we’re not having a dream right now?” Sunshine asked.
“Only one way to find out,” Started Ten Cents before grabbing Sunshine’s left arm.
“Oi! not too hard, you’ll pull my whole arm off!” Sunshine yelped.
“It’s not there anymore…” Ten Cents remarked as he stared at Sunshine’s healed hand.
Sunshine retracted his arm back and slapped Ten Cents across his face with his other.
“Ow geez!” Ten Cents recoiled, “What was that for?”
“I just had to be sure you felt pain as well, just to be sure that we both aren’t dreaming.” Sunshine explained before looking back at his hand.
Ten Cents thought for a moment, “Maybe some rope burns can go away quickly,” he suggested.
“But how would that explain how we had the same dream last night?” Sunshine raised an eyebrow.
Their pondering was cut short when they heard someone running up to them, it was Tillie.
“Hello Ten Cents, Hey Sunshine! I see you two out pretty early this morning. Did Captain Starr already give out the announcement for the day?” Tillie asked.
“Yeah he did, but don’t worry you didn’t miss anything. We’re still scraping barnacles today.” Ten Cents reassures Tillie
“Oh right… Well I guess it’s lucky I have my own scrapper and gloves just in case, my sister got them for me after I told her about yesterday’s accident.” Tillie recounted
“How did she take the news?” Sunshine asked
“Well… she took it in stride, a bit better than I imagined but she understood the situation. Anyways we better get going to the Pier.” Tillie said, trying to liven up the mood.
“Yeah you’re right, we can’t keep Scuttlebutt Pete waiting for us any longer.” Ten Cents sighed.
Ten Cents led the way to Pier 3, Tillie walked in the middle humming a tune, and Sunshine followed behind looking at his now healed hand again thinking that maybe The Other Port was real, all while a black cat was following them from afar. The three found Scuttlebutt Pete waiting for them at the entrance of Pier 3.
“You three made it here in good time.” Greeted Scuttlebutt Pete.
“Thanks Scuttlebutt, we’re all here and eager to work.” Tillie exclaimed.
“Good, well here you go,” Scuttlebutt Pete started handing the scrapers, gloves, and buckets to the three, but Tillie declined her pair.
“I brought my own scraper and gloves, Scuttlebutt.” Tillie explained.
Scuttlebutt Pete was a little taken aback but smiled, “Didn’t think any of you would be eager to get to work on your punishment. At least that makes one of you.”
“Why’s that?” Tillie puzzled.
“You’ll find out why, but before we start, what end of the pier do you three want to start from?” Scuttlebutt queried
“The ne-” Ten Cents began
“The far end of the Pier!” Tillie cutted in
“The far end it shall be then,” Scuttlebutt Pete smiled.
Ten Cents and Sunshine winged at this. As they followed Scuttlebutt Pete to the far end of the Pier the boardwalk creaked and groaned as they walked along it. Tillie also noticed that the pilings were rotting and covered in colonies of barnacles. When they arrived at the far end of Pier 3, they found a strange contraption waiting for them.
“This is what you three will be standing in as you scrape the barnacles off the pilings. It’s a ‘floating platform’, once you finish scraping off the pilings I’ll come back and lift you three back up onto the boardwalk and move it to another spot.”
“Say uh Scuttlebutt, wouldn’t this be a lot easier if we were standing in a boat?” Sunshine queried.
Scuttlebutt Pete interjected, “A boat isn’t stable as the platform, if you stepped too close to the side, it would tip over and you three would end up in the ocean. Trust me, this is a safer alternative”
Sunshine still felt unsure about this. Ten Cents went in first before he helped Tillie and Sunshine get onto the platform and slowly, with the help of the pulleys holding platform, lowered the three down to one of the pilings and they got to work at once.
—
Meanwhile, Top Hat was refueling his railway tug at the coal yard when he heard a familiar whistle, it was one of the harbor tugs from Zero Marine hauling behind it a couple Star Line fuel barges, on board was Zorran. Top Hat ran over to his tug’s wheelhouse and radioed over to the passing tug,
“The refinery is in the other direction Zorran, why are you coming this way? If you’re here to gloat, I don’t want to hear it.” Top Hat huffed.
What Top Hat received as a reply however he couldn’t believe came from Zorran,
“I just wanted to come by and say that I’m sorry for what happened to OJ,” Zorran lamented, “the recklessness of your younger crewmates is unforgivable.”
Top Hat didn’t know what to say,
“What are you trying to accomplish here, Zorran? I don’t understand” Top Hat puzzled.
“I’m not trying to accomplish anything but the work your captain assigned to me. I’ve always had a deep respect for OJ. This may not mean a lot coming from me, with us working for rival companies, but I hope he recovers” Zorran consoled.
Zorran tipped his fedora to Top Hat who watched as the Zero Marine harbor tug turned around and headed across the bay to the refinery. Top Hat then walked to the stern of his tug and stared at the docked paddle steamer at the Star Pier, his eyes welling up with tears.
—
By mid-afternoon, Ten Cents, Tillie and Sunshine felt tired. Scraping off the barnacles was hard work especially to Ten Cents and Sunshine, their leather gloves were worn and the scrapers were rusty. True to his word, Scuttlebutt Pete finally decided it was time to give the three a break.
“Well lads, you’ve earned your hour long break, make use of your free time wisely because you all got a lot of scraping to get back to,” advised Scuttlebutt Pete.
“Finally, I was getting tired of scraping for this long,” exclaimed Sunshine wearily.
“Yeah, at least for now we can catch our breaths, my arms are killing me” Ten Cents sighed as he put his scrapper in his pocket.
“Well what can we do during our free time?” Tillie asked.
All three thought about it for a moment as Scuttlebutt Pete pulled the suspended platform up carefully to the pier’s surface. Once they got off the platform, Ten Cents had decided, “well we can just hang out here for the whole break and maybe have something to drink.”
“Say, Scuttlebutt Pete, are there any refreshments nearby?” Tillie queried.
“Fraid not. Sorry lads, I can go and bring some, especially to cool off from the heat of the day,” Scuttlebutt Pete apologized.
“Oh thank you Scuttlebutt Pete.” Sunshine sighed in relief
“But you three have to stay put here and try not to get into any trouble while I'm out, do you all understand?” Scuttlebutt Pete remarked.
“Yes Scuttlebutt Pete.” all three affirmed in unison.
“Good, I’ll be back as soon as possible,” and with that, Scuttlebutt left the three young harbor employees at the pier with each other’s company.
“I guess while we wait… what’s been going on with you two?” Tillie inquired.
“Well…” Ten Cents began,
“Last night something weird happened to both of us.”
Tillie perked up at the sound of this.
“Oh? What is it? Was it something interesting?” Tillie quizzed.
“Do you remember that small door we found in the employee lounge?” Ten Cents hesitated,
“Uh… yes? There was just a wall of bricks behind it, what about it?” puzzled Tillie.
“Well last night, me and Sunshine chased a mouse to the employee lounge where the small door is and-” Ten Cents was suddenly interrupted by a sudden yet faint sound coming towards them.
“Meow,” it was a cat; its fur was colored black and it looked tatty and frail, rather strangely it was missing an eye. Tillie and Sunshine turned their attention towards it.
“Oh look, a little cat!” Tillie said adoringly at the black cat.
Sunshine took one look at the cat and instantly recognized it from yesterday. “Hey I remember you,”
The cat walked slowly up to Sunshine. Sunshine was nervous until the cat started to rub itself against Sunshine’s leg affectionately, purring all the while.
“Aww it likes you, Sunshine!” Tillie exclaimed, getting closer to pet the cat.
Sunshine was hesitant about being near the black cat since it was the main catalyst of yesterday’s incident, but despite the look of the tattered one eyed cat he couldn’t resist its seemingly friendly nature as he got down to being eye to eye with the cat.
“Huh, you don’t seem bad, are you lost?” Sunshine asked the cat as he pet it.
“He must be a stray considering how thin it looks.” Tillie sighed at the feline.
“Yeah… Poor thing.” Sunshine added.
Ten Cents however wasn’t thrilled to see the black cat. He marched over to the cat
“Oi! Get lost!” Ten Cents hollored.
The black cat, frightened by Ten Cents’ sudden approach, scampered away to the entrance of the boardwalk. Sunshine and Tillie were surprised and a little offended.
“Why’d you go and scare it off, Ten Cents?” Sunshine puzzled,
“Have you forgotten it is the exact reason why we’ve gotten into this mess?” Ten Cents chastised,
“No, I haven't forgotten Ten Cents, but I don't think it warranted you scaring it off.” faltered Sunshine,
“It’s only a harmless animal, Ten Cents,” Tillie soothed, “It probably didn’t mean to cause what it did,”
Ten Cents took a deep breath, he knew Tillie was right. His thoughts were then suddenly interrupted by the sound of two pairs of boots making their way over to them.
“Well well well, looks like you three are in a spot of bother,”
It was Zip and Zug.
“Don’t you two have anything else better to do? We’re trying to enjoy our break” Sunshine hissed,
“Hey calm down Sunshine we’re only here cuz we heard what happened, and we thought we’d check up on our fellow deckhands,” Zip insisted.
“Yes,” added Zug, “after all if we had put OJ in a hospital room, we’d feel very upset ourselves”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Ten Cents scowled.
“Oh nothing, it's just if we had hindered the old man we’d feel very remorseful.”
“Are you saying I don’t feel remorseful?”
“Well by the look on your face I’d say not,”
This infuriated Ten Cents, clutching his scraper in his pocket, his thoughts swirling through his head. How dare Zug accuse him of being remorseless about O.J.’s injuries.
Tillie soon saw this in Ten Cents' face, she could see how this was getting under his skin, putting a hand on his shoulder.
“Ten Cents… please calm down. He’s just trying to get to you…” Tillie soothed.
“Tillie’s right Ten Cents, he’s just trying to mess with ya.” Sunshine added.
Zip and Zug turned to leave
“How pathetic,” Zug smirked, “Ten Cents can’t even stand up for himself, those smaller than him always get in his way,”
“What a disgrace to The Star Fleet” snickered Zip.
It was then Ten Cents snapped, he broke free from Tillie and Sunshine, drew his scraper from his pocket and charged at the two zeroes.
“Ten Cents, no!” “Stop!” cried Sunshine and Tillie as they chased him.
Ten Cents tackled Zug suddenly and began slashing Zug’s face with his scraper.
“DISGRACE TO MY COMPANY?! PATHETIC?!” Ten Cents shouted.
Zug squealed in agony as Zip tried pulling Ten Cents off Zug but Ten Cents shoved him off into one of the wooden railings of the pier. Tillie and Sunshine then ran up and yanked Ten Cents off of Zug, his face red with fury and tears welling in his eyes.
“I’M NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT HAPPENED TO OJ!” Ten Cents seethed.
“That’s enough!” boomed another voice, it was Scuttlebutt Pete who was holding a crate of bottles of soda.
Zip pulled Zug back onto his feet, Zug limped to the entrance of the pier,
“You’re in for it now,” he scowled at Ten Cents.
Zip turned to the three stars, “I’m sorry about this,” he apologized before following his colleague.
“Scuttlebutt I can explain, I-”
Scuttlebutt Pete held up his hand in front of Ten Cents,
“Save your explanation, you’re going to have to give it to Captain Starr. However, either way you’re going to be in a heap of trouble with him.” Scuttlebutt Pete said solemnly.
Ten Cents let out a sigh, somehow he knew deep down, Scuttlebutt Pete was right.

In the CurseAU how does the curse affect non-tugboat boats like Johnny Cuba?
He's turned up in Protector rewritten and I was wondering just how monstrous he is
Good question!
Trampers and ships are not venomous nor able to spit fire, as their size is enough to ward off most threats. They're surprisingly more docile than the tugs and are rather tame. However, they can be extremely protective of their crews, as they tend to get attached easily.
Some are referred to gentle giants, like Izzy for example. He truly means no harm. Think of him as like a capybara, chill with everyone.
Johnny Cuba on the other hand breaks that stereotype and has been known to attack other ships since he broke out of prison a few years after the curse was cast. However, he tends to keep to himself. It's not known if he's close with his crew or not. He's extremely dangerous and can take on a lone tug and stand a fair chance, but more than one, and he's in trouble.

Now that I'm working on the Zero Fleet art reference, I wanna give a seek peek that might make you chuckle ᕕ( ᐕ )ᕗ (plus some little lore as a treat)
This is Captain Zero, or his full name is Scaramuccia Zero, and apparently he's a little crabby. Why, you may ask?
Well, this (and I will explain a bit):
Bro's is short compared to his men, even Zip & Zug are a few inches taller than their pissy captain.
However, in my yandere tugs au, Zero is 5'9 ft (or 175 cm)... take a good look.
The thing is, his men aren't really human. They may looked human, but a bit over the average height.
They're called Avatars, humanoid vessels for the tugs' soul. It's not only a tug thing, but every sentient marine vessel (lightships, submarines, trampers, launch vessels, just anything with a face essentially) and can be taller (or stronger) than a human.
Probably a good thing in the Zero Fleet's case, cause Captain Zero is infamous for his short temper and wanting to fight would-be opponents, only for his tugs hauled him away if the opponents don't want to deal with crazy.
It also didn't help that Captain Zero wore modified gloves most of the time, gloves are a bit thick and attached to the ends are curved metallic blades for claws.
(sounds like a recipe of pain when manhandling a human version of a very pissed off cat...)

Tu as 30 ans et rien commencé...

stay safe out there fellow queers also an edition from someone who grew up hiking:
good socks will save your feet more than you think, so if you can afford it get two pairs. darn tough socks have a lifetime warranty and can be repaired quite well but any good socks are better than a hundred shitty ones.
keep a small amount of trampers wool on you, its cheap, light, and is one of the best things for preventing blisters when you really can't afford any more difficulties.
I saw that post about what to do if you're homeless again (the one that starts by telling you to spend all of your money on motel rooms lmao) anyway, here's a few thoughts, specifically for trans girls, cuz I don't really care otherwise tbh:
1) plan ahead, most trans girls are in precarious housing situations, you will have a much easier time when it falls apart if you already have a pack with most of the gear you need in it. Also, if you find yourself in a situation where you cant make rent, dont pay part of it, spend that money on gear, pocket the rest and leave, youll have a much nicer time. Look up your local eviction laws, you have plenty of time. (Gear list at the end)
2) travel! If you're in Arizona in May, leave. it's about to be hot as hell. If you're in Michigan in October, leave. It's about to be cold as hell. If you're in a big city, leave. It's way easier to be homeless pretty much anywhere else. Amtrak is cheaper and more comfortable than greyhound, hitchhiking is free and easy, if you're alone it's not that much slower than the previous two, and it's more fun, and sometimes people buy you food or whatever or give you money. I promise it's not scary and you're entirely capable of doing it, no matter who you are. 95+% of people who will pick you up are very nice. All you have to do is take the bus out of town, as far down the highway you can, to an exit with a truck stop if possible, then just stand on the side of the road with your thumb out until someone picks you up. You can stand at the bottom of the ramp(on the highway) near where the merge lane ends or at the top of the ramp(where there's usually a traffic light), the former is more likely to lead to cop interactions but will maybe get you a ride faster, check on hitchwiki for how the cops are in the area. don't be afraid to take a commuter bus or Amtrak to get out of a shitty cop area
3) skip shelters if you can (they are very occasionally a decent place to get stuff from) and encampments, good places to sleep include the trees near railroad tracks or highways, wooded areas behind shopping centers, sections of parks without paths, overgrown empty lots. Hang a tarp above you if there's an appreciable chance of rain, there's tons of YouTube tutorials on how to do this, maybe I'll make a post about what I usually do some day. There are many habits more fun than motel rooms, save your money for them lmao.
4) get on food stamps. This is easier in some places than others, but it makes the whole thing a lot easier. Just tell them you're homeless, if they don't give you a card the same day, you can probably ask to pick it up from that office, alternatively some drop in centers/day shelters can receive mail for you, or you can have it sent to general delivery(USPS service, look it up)
7) libraries are great for charging your phone and using wifi, but also keep an eye out, plenty of random outlets on the outsides of buildings are also powered
5) dumpster. sidewalk trash cans, Aldi, Einstein's, trader Joe's, pizza places, etc. You need to develop a bit of a sense for it but it's an easy way to get cooked food or travelling food or expensive food without spending resources. Also it's fun.
6) water is free, go into the bathroom of any gas station or grocery store in America(offer not valid in most big cities or on the west coast, but in that case just go to the library) and fill up your water bottle
8) hygiene notes: truckers get free showers from chain truck stops(loves, pilot/flying j) go there and ask them. convenient if you're hitchhiking, also you don't need to shower 3 times a day, really, you'll survive. Ditto with deodorant. Take care of your teeth though. Take your socks off every. day. Change them consistently. Safety razors give a good shave, work well without adequate water pressure, and the replacement blades are very stealable, they're kind of heavy though. Walmart makes these electric razors for women that take AA batteries and are pretty light but give a worse shave, also they kinda go through batteries, pick whatever works for you(cartridge razors suck)
9) traveling food notes: peanut butter is great, tortillas and bagels travel pretty well, tuna packets are pretty good protein for traveling(the ones with rice and beans or whatever are nice since theyre often the same price as the regular), condiment packets are free, hot sauce makes everything better, and mayo goes well with tuna and has a bunch of calories in it, salad dressing packets are free from truck stops and work well turning the Walmart shredded vegetable packages (labeled for making into slaw, next to the bagged salads) into a salad with real vegetables(not iceberg lettuce) in it or mixing in with tuna packets for even more calories than mayo
Gear world:
Necessary items(in order of importance): a gallon of water carrying capacity(an Arizona jug or other twist top jug is conventional, but a bladder+arizona bottles also works), a tarp(larger than 6'x9', not brightly colored), a hank of parachord, a sleeping bag (20° rated, synthetic insulation), a backpack with a padded hip belt(at least 50L, no more than 75), rain gear(a rain poncho might cover your pack too, a rain jacket can help with wind when its cold, a trash bag inside or outside your pack can keep it dry, a plan to watch the weather and not get caught also works), a z-fold foam sleeping pad, three pairs of socks, two pairs of underwear (at least one pair of boxer breifs strongly recommended if you arent incredibly skinny), a decent pair of shoes with good arch support, a functional jacket(skip if you got a rain jacket before), a base layer(wool or poly, absolutely no cotton)
Convenient items: a sleeping bag liner(cotton free, keeps you warm in winter and cool in summer), gallon zip locks to pack your stuff in(helps keep it dry and organized), no more than one change of clothes(as light as possible), a multi-tool(can opener, pliers, wire cutter), lighter(burning rope ends etc), spoon, floss and needles for patching

The Other Port
(Chapter 3)
.:: The Little Door ::.
The rope had slipped out of Ten Cents’ hands as the wind and tide made the tramper go adrift, everyone grew frantic.
“THE ROPE!!” Tillie cried out.
Sunshine, who had snapped out of his distracted state from seeing the cat, turned to see what was going on.
In a blind panic, Sunshine ran and grabbed onto the rope as it continued to slip through his fingers at a fast rate but eventually he got a full grip onto it.
“I got it!” Sunshine called out, “Ten Cents give Sunshine a hand and pull the tramper back!” OJ commanded.
Ten Cents ran behind Sunshine and grabbed onto the rope. Both did their best to pull the rope back. The other Stars in their tugboats all did their best to push the tramper back to the dock. In a panic, Tillie let go of her rope and ran over to help Ten Cents and Sunshine.
“Wait, Tillie!” called OJ, who was now beginning to lose his hold on his rope. But Tillie wasn’t listening, she grabbed onto the rope from the stern of the tramper and aided the other younger Star members, “C’mon we got this, keep pulling!” strained Tillie, and slowly but surely they gained control and it wasn’t long before they managed to tie the tramper safely to the dock.
Meanwhile OJ was still struggling to keep his grip on the bow’s rope, before he could fall into the ocean, the young members of my company came to his aid, “Don’t worry OJ, we’ve got you”, Ten Cents assured him, OJ didn’t reply, but eventually the four managed to get the front of the tramper secured to the dock.
Everyone heaved a sigh of relief, “See, I told you we had this,” Ten Cents proclaimed.
O.J. for a moment didn’t say anything, he let go of the rope and limped off to a nearby bench clenching his back. “O.J.?...” the port had seemingly gone quiet.
-
I wasn’t pleased when I heard what had happened at the port that day, and I had a stern word with my youngest members. “I’m very disappointed in you, Sunshine, you’re usually a lot more careful with your jobs”
“I’m very sorry Captain,” Sunshine said, taking off his hat, “You should be, thanks to your actions, O.J. won't be able to return to work with us and now the Zeros are going to have to help us.”
“But at least we didn’t lose the contract to that tramper, Captain,” pleaded Tillie, “That's besides the point,” I snapped, “We could still potentially lose the contract now that the Zeros are helping, And they could take it beneath our noses, you know how they can be.”
“Yes sir,” Ten Cents, Tillie, and Sunshine agreed in unison, “As punishment, starting tomorrow morning, I’m putting you three to work with Skuttlebutt Pete, scraping barnacles at pier 3.”
“Oh no not Pier 3 sir,” moaned Ten Cents
“My orders are final Ten Cents, if you complain any longer, I’ll come up with an even worse punishment,” now I can tend to be hard on my employees when they mess up, but as they walked out of my office to the employee lounge, I couldn’t help but feel I had been a little too hard on them.
Sunshine looked down at his hand still stinging rope burn and sighed, “I really messed up big time today guys, I’m sorry.”
“Sunshine it’s not…” Tillie paused for a moment being careful with her words, “Well… It's my fault as well. I saw you two were in trouble and I wanted to help but I left O.J to his own devices. H-He’s badly hurt now and…” Tillie went quiet, having to feel very guilty to the point where she felt like she was drowning in a sea of her own words.
“Tillie…” Ten Cents tried to comfort her
“No this is really all my fault”, whimpered Sunshine, “I got distracted by that cat, if i wasn’t so absentminded none of this would have happened.”
“Okay enough with the pity party, I know it's been a really bad day for us because some mistakes were made but we can’t let our guilt get to us… I know you tried to help, Tillie and that’s okay. I'm sure O.J. will get better soon and things will improve as well, I’m sure of it.” Ten Cents reassured, Tillie gave a small smile, but Sunshine was still not convinced, he had a lot still on his mind.
He only gave a sigh of distress as he walked upstairs leaving Tillie and Ten Cents behind.
“Oi Sunshine, where are you going?”
“I’m going to my bunk… I want to be left alone…” Sunshine quavered.
Tillie and Ten Cents looked at each other feeling worried for their friend.
“You think we should..?” started Tillie
“I know he wants to be alone but… we shouldn’t leave him feeling sorry for himself.”
“Right,” agreed Tillie.
Both headed up to check up on Sunshine. Once they reached the doors to the barracks, Ten Cents knocked quietly not wanting to alarm Sunshine.
“Hey Sunshine, I know you wanted us to leave you alone but we wanted to be beside you to comfort you.” Tillie spoke softly as they waited for an answer yet there was none. Ten Cents tried knocking again.
“Sunshine, are you okay?” Tillie asked, sounding more worried but what they didn’t expect was the sound of pacing from inside the room like someone was searching for something.
“Sunshine?” Ten Cents asked, grabbing the doorknob and was surprised, realizing that it was open. As he and Tillie entered, they saw Sunshine searching throughout the entire room for something.
“What are you doing?” queried Tillie, “Ten Cents!” Sunshine turned to face Ten Cents
“What? What’s wrong?”
“Ten Cents, the other doll is missing!” Sunshine exclaimed frantically
“What?! What do you mean it’s gone?”
“It’s not on the nightstand where I left it.”
“Did you look everywhere?”
“I did before you guys arrived, but it’s just not here.”
Tillie stood in confusion, “I’m sorry but what’s this about another doll?”
“It’s something me and Sunshine found in the old storage room.”
“You think it could be somewhere else?”
“What are you suggesting? The doll got up and walked around the Star Fleet Headquarters?” snapped Ten Cents
“I don’t know, maybe, but it doesn’t hurt to try searching for it elsewhere.”
At first Ten Cents was reluctant to find his doll look alike but decided to go look for it.
“Alright let's split up. Sunshine you’ll go in the locker room, Tillie you’ll look in the cafeteria and I'll go look in the worker’s lounge. Now let's hop to it”
“Got it!” the two said in unison before they all went down stairs splitting off to go look for the doll.
Ten Cents looked over and under the furniture in the lounge until he came to a table when he noticed it hiding in the shadows.
“There you are.’’ Ten Cents said as he moved the table aside to reach for the doll, then he noticed something. It looked like the outline of a small door on the ground. Curiously, Ten Cents examined it, he then felt a keyhole beneath the wallpaper.
He grabbed the doll and saw the key held to it. Could this key belong to this door? Should I open it? Ten Cents thought to himself.
“Oi! Sunshine! Tillie! I found it!” he called out and they immediately rushed over to the employee lounge
“You found it?” Tillie asked,
“Where was it?” Sunshine added,
“Hiding underneath the table, but you won’t believe what else i found”
“What? What is it?” both asked as they walked over.
“There’s a door hidden in the wallpaper. See?”
Tillie and Sunshine squatted down to get a better look at the door.
“Why would a building have a door so small in it? It’s something straight out of Alice's Adventures In Wonderland” Tillie questioned.
“Don’t be silly Tillie, small doors like this usually are for a crawlspace.” Sunshine answered, “I should know, my orphanage had one.”
“I think the key belongs to this door” Ten Cents held out his doll, showing the key to Tillie and Sunshine.
“How do you know?” Sunshine skepticized
“I don’t, but it wouldn’t hurt to try I guess.”
Taking the key off the doll's neck and getting low to the door’s level, Ten Cents started ripping the wallpaper through the door’s jamb with the key’s blade. This made Tillie visibly anxious.
“Ten Cents, is it a good idea to rip the wallpaper? I really don’t want any of us to get into more trouble for vandalizing the wallpaper.” Tillie said, concerned.
“Don’t worry I don’t think anyone will notice… I hope.”
To Ten Cents’ surprise the key fitted the keyhole. Tillie and Sunshine grew anxious wanting to know what was on the other side of the small door. The key clicked, and with his heart beating out of his chest, Ten Cents turned the doorknob and pulled open the door revealing… a brick wall.
“…What?” stammered Sunshine,
“That’s it?!” Tillie exclaimed, they were all at a loss for words
“Why is the door sealed off? Even more so what's the point in keeping the door in place?” Ten Cents groaned, shutting the door and pulling the key out of the keyhole.
“Let’s put the table back in its original place before someone sees what we did, what a waste of time.”
Tillie and Sunshine nodded as they helped get the table in place and Ten Cents did his best to cover up where he ripped into the wallpaper.
“Well I think it’s time for me to go, I can’t keep my sister waiting for me any longer. She’d be worried sick if I didn't get back home on time.” Tillie said as she checked her watch.
“Alright guess we’ll see you tomorrow morning huh?” Ten Cents inquired
“Yeah… scraping barnacles, but it’ll be okay hopefully. See you guys then”
“See ya Tillie.”
“Tell your sister hi for me!” added Sunshine
Tillie nodded and waved goodbye as she exited the building.
“So what now?” asked Sunshine
“I don’t know but I find it mysterious how this doll left the barrack and appeared next to that small door. Heck it doesn’t even make sense for why it had a key for a door that went nowhere” Ten cents held out the doll and scowled at it.
“You think someone’s trying to mess with us?”
“I don’t know Sunshine, honestly I don’t want to think about this any longer.”
“Well I'm feeling pretty hungry now, shall we get something to eat?”
“Sure... another day of eating disgusting rations, yum” Ten Cents said with forced sarcasm as they walked to the cafeteria.
Night fell over Bigg City Port, some of my employees were still working while my young recruits, already in their pajamas, were getting ready to sleep.
Sunshine looked at his hand again, the rope burn still imprinted on his palm, while the stinging feeling had gone, yet Sunshine’s guilt still weighed heavy on his conscience. Ten Cents seemed to notice this and tried comforting his best friend.
“Hey I know you still feel bad about today, but just know that once we finish with our community service, Things will only get better here on out. Sure it may be still rather hectic with jobs to do but everything’s gonna be okay. O.J will recover and this whole incident will be forgotten about in due time, there's no need to beat yourself up over it,” Ten Cents said, laying his hand on Sunshine’s shoulder.
“Well I guess you’re right, Ten Cents, I just hope tomorrow goes well.”
“It will, Sunshine, It will…”
Ten Cents assured Sunshine again, both climbing into their bunks, both of their dolls were had been placed on their nightstand again.
“Goodnight Ten Cents.” yawned Sunshine,
“Goodnight Sunshine.” Ten Cents replied, and they both slowly drifted off to sleep. Unbeknownst to them, the small door Ten Cents unlocked was far more than what they initially thought.
