Remus’ grief at James’ death was tinged with relief; relief he no longer had to watch James touch him as if he was something to revere, treat him like he was worthy of overwhelming love; relief that he could live his ordinary life, no one to watch his everyday suffering.

I like stories about Peter as a civilian and him coming of age but I can’t stand the way his personal relationships are portrayed especially the romantic ones and certainly his relationship with Mary Jane.
Even before the current run and all its character assignations, MJ has always confused me when it came to her loving Peter as Peter and as Spider-Man. It was implied and then explicitly stated for a brief while that she knew he was Spider-Man even before they started dating. She understood the responsibilities he had and seemed to sympathize with how much he had to sacrifice personally to be Spider-Man.
And then when they start dating she constantly gets fed up with his heroics. Not just worrying about him, I’m not getting on her for that, but like not having time for his personal life or his guilt complex, which she knows he struggles with. I would deem this justified if she didn’t know his idenity as Spider-Man but she did. She practically always has and it was a key part of their relationship and why things worked at first. It creates this idea that she wants him to change for her or even tone down his heroics which is again is something that causes him mental anguish and he struggles working through.
Peter isn’t innocent. He has a horrible work-life balance that hurts even those who know but Mary Jane is pitched as his match made in heave, his soul-mate. The on-again off-again nature of their relationship, often triggered by MJ, makes her seem like she had this romanticized version of being the superhero’s girl, like Lois Lane and Superman, only to realize this is real life (for them) and not that.
She’s loyal but not much of a partner; A lover, a companion but she fails to provide that true support in understanding. Her patience frequently comes with ultimatums and I can’t fathom why the writers or editorial writes her like this for drama when it would much more enthralling to have her disdain and resentment come from her husband's almost dying everyday rather than not having time for her.
#its felt like a hollow marrigae for a while but OMD and everything after sorta threw the issues into the forefront#I like every other love intrest more cause their frustrations have more validity in theyve been with him far shorter of a time and arguably#end things simply because the worry grief and betrayal at being lied to is too much#MJ doesnt get those cause she knew she knew Peter's issues and decided to take his baggage only to act odd when she realzies how heavy it is#and how it would way her down that he gets tramatized pretty often#like have her care for him after fights and vocalize her concerns she always waits until she explodes and#i just want him to have a partner that cares for him and spider-man and gets it#bring back chat for the love of god let him be happy. have a real permanent companion that isnt also a hero#peter parker#spider-man#spiderman#mary jane watson#spiderverse#marvel comics

my personal convoluted answer to the question is that both pre death and post res wei wuxian have the possibility to resurrect lan wangji in a fit of emotion (pre death moreso because of you know the deteriorating mental state), but pre death wei wuxian would not resurrect lan wangji on purpose, and post res wei wuxian would only do so with express permission, which I can't imagine lan wangji giving
#I think wei wuxian just like. respects lan wangji too much to do it on purpose? but loves him enough he could without meaning to#not to say that wei wuxian does not respect wen ning he does very much#but that was a. in a fit of emotion and b. the first time that had ever happened at all ever#I think after seeing what it put wen ning through he wouldn't wish that on lan wangji even for the sake of his own grief#boundaries are so important to both of them I jusr can't imagine him doing it on purpose#pre Or post res#pre death yllz era wwx was in enough of a State that I think it could just Happen#esp if we go w more of the canon where he is slowly loosing control#and post res wwx might on accident if Really pressed in a deeply tramatizing set of circumstances#honestly I am surprised that as part of the nevernight insanity wei wuxian didn't ressurect jiang yanli in a fit of grief#now THAT would be fucked up#have been toying w a fic idea where jyl survives nevernight but that would be an interesting take on that situation#sort of implausible tho because wwx wouldn't be alive to do the whole restoring of conciousness thing#anyway. My honest reaction to this week's comics:
Spoilers Under the Cut:
Wolverine #50:
FREEDOM!
The ending wrapped up a little too neat, much like X-Force did.
Basically, before the battle against Graydon could even comence, Sabretooth got him first with a lethal blow.
I was kind of expecting a bit of a fight, but okay.
Also, Logan's a godddamn hypocrite:
How much have the writers just kind of glossed over? I'm guessing they've never read Remender's X-Force at minimum.
Like, Logan acting like killing your own son is inconceivable? It would've made more sense for Logan to harp on his angst regarding his own son here.
Sabretooth lures Logan to the heart of former Krakoa to be captured by the residue pit, but it just ripped his armor off.
But the side purpose of the armor is to reactivate his healing factor (because fuck it, of course it is).
The X-Force crew subdues Sabretooth, but Logan faces him one-on-one, and hacks him to bits as revenge.
This panel was actually a cool visual (artist did amazing):
With Akihiro front and center :(
And also Logan realizes (once again) that he's happier with "family" -- both found and blood family.
Laura doesn't get to react to her brother's death.
Phoebe turns off the Quire-head device (but we already know he's going to be resurrected anyway)
No Beaubier twin cameos.
Even Logan's man-pain is absolutely glossed over. Weirdly, he's not hating himself enough for a man who just lost his beloved son.
(I thought we were pretending that everything was fixed off-panel and he loves his son)
(The only other Akihiro cameo in this book. At least he doesn't have a beer this time)
Like, I know denial is a stage of grief, and its not unheard of to compartmentalize things, but we could still have had a moment where Logan just ~breaks~ at the end, you know? Like it all comes flooding in after the war is over and won.
I'm sorry, the ending was weirdly too hopeful for my tastes. It comes across as very shallow to me.
In general, I think the writing between Akihiro and Logan just lacks a lot of depth.
The most we've gotten from this writer is a brief mention or small moment here or there -- for example Jeff Bannister had mentioned once that Logan told him about Itsu during one of their hang-out sessions (from the Wolverine ongoing). Or Logan conisistently referring to Akihiro as "my son" with a more positive connotation.
There's just no real depth being built between Logan and Aki -- not even in monologue form. No reflection on how his son has grown and changed, become a hero, no thoughts on Itsu -- there used to be a time when Logan couldn't even look at his son without thinking about Itsu.
Its not like Akihiro was a product of a one-night stand -- he was originally a WANTED child. Logan not only married Itsu, but also knew he was gonna be a father before all that shit went down.
I'm just not seeing the expected reactions of man who was granted the opportunity to reconnect with his long-lost child in a relatively healthier format, only to lose him AGAIN. After implied healing progress was finally made. AND in a BRUTAL fashion -- that alone should be tramatizing.
Just in general, the writing style is great for a comic book format, but also, I think a lot of the plotline choices/character development are lacking if you've read up on Akihiro (and other characters in general -- Laura is written a little odd, like a mini-Logan)
As far as the side story by Larry Hama/Daniel Picciotto -- it was fun. It was a nostalgia trip. I have nothing to add and I liked it.
We also got ink pages (unlettered/uncolored) for the upcoming Wolverine series out in September -- Kurt is tracking down Logan, who is living with wolves again.
Hellverine #1
Oddly, I don't completely hate it yet. Like this issue had quality set-up, but its weird. The plot choices are weird. The implications of what's happening are weird. It's all weird. It's too weird to bash yet.
But its not bad writing, in terms of quality. The story flows well, it kept my interest -- but I still have reservations regarding upcoming plot deicisions.
Essentially, Akihiro, possessed by the spirit of Bagra-Gul, is going around hunting bad guys -- human traffickers, a corrupt priest, a cannibalistic supper club, etc.
The secret underground Pentagon organization is also trying to figure out the Hellverine is doing. They had harnessed Hellfire and infused into a bunch of of deceased elite soldiers--who immediately went rogue and escaped. But Aki/Hellverine showed up and tried to stop them -- presumably sensing the Hellfire stuff going on. But they managed to blow him up and escape while he healed.
In response, the Pentagon organization captured Logan, believing him to be the Hellverine (to be fair -- in the demon form, it looks a lot like him with a flaming skull). The head of the org interrogated him, lying about the Hellfire soldiers' origin, so Logan agreed to help him locate the Hellverine to take the soldiers down. Upon reviewing the video -- particularly at the moment of explosion, Logan recognized his son's tattoo.
The issue ends on a cliffhanger, with Aki going "flame-off" to reveal his beautiful face.
So Aki is NOT part of the secret underground Pentagon organization like I thought. He is an oddity. I'm assuming as this progresses, we'll find out why -- I'm currently assuming its an old shell, like a Krakoan era resurrection that was never disposed of properly, you know? Then mix it with demon-magic.
I still don't get the all the stitches -- I mean, if its an old shell, it would explain the mohawk (I miss the long, fluffy hair already. I mean, I guess the mohawk is more iconic, but he already has a unique tattoo, let him change up his style for a bit longer. I never got my messy hair-down panel ☹) .
But also, he 100% looks like Logan with a flaming skull in his demon form. Like, the tattoo canonically disappears, and he's short and hairy, and has Logan's claw placement.
The implications of it are weirding me out -- like I know Aki canonically has his father's shoulders, but he's taller and I've always headcanoned him having a relatively slimmer/wiry build overall. Mostly taking after his mama with hints of his father here and there. I guess it could be explained away with demon magic transformation, but I don't know how I feel yet. (like it would be weird to be specifically transformed into your father, right?)
The explanation for Bagra-Gul is that bonding to Logan fundamentally changed him -- as in, as a demon, Bagra-Gul still feeds on pain and violence, but now tinged with a sense of twisted justice so he feeds on the sinners/scum of the earth and taking the same demonic pleasures.
Does this mean Akihiro is also feeling his father's influence on Bagra-Gul? Is Bagra-Gul influenced by Akihiro at all? Does Aki know what he's doing? Is there even Aki's soul in there, or is it just an empty shell for a demon?
I guess we'll have to wait and see?
However, I am 100% worried with how this is going to play out. (Especially considering its likely the writer was planning this out since the beginning of the Sabretooth War arc)The Hellverine mini lines up perfectly to the relaunch of the Wolverine series. And I know I've said it before, but Logan only turns his back on civilization for two reasons: braining-washing or grief (or both.)
The caption teaser for Hellverine #4 is as folllows:
"HELLVERINE VS. WOLVERINE! BAGRA-GHUL has come for LOGAN's soul, but when the heat is on, who will survive - the HELLVERINE or the WOLVERINE?"
I really just hope it is just a fake-out and it means purifying Akihiro's soul and not making Logan kill him again. I am so tired. (and Aki gets to keep the character growth -- no hard reset making him a villian again)
But it really seems like they want Logan to hate himself for some reason and wouldn't be the first time they made him kill his son (or kids in general) to make him feel bad.
Or even just kill a shell of his son could be just enough -- Logan has never needed much to trigger the self-loathing.
Its lining up a little too well for comfort, if that makes sense.
I just want to be hopeful. Such as, maybe now that Akihiro is relatively front and center for this mini, we'll actually get some proper father-son relationship development. Maybe it'll end nicely wrapped up on a positive note -- where Akihiro is resurrected, relatively fine, and set up to join a new team, such as one of the books that hasn't been announced yet (Editor Tom Brevoort mentioned in an interview that there are still "first wave" new era books that haven't even been announced yet)

If Roman had killed/maimed Virgil in the end of Life in the Faerie Hill, what would have happened? Especially regarding King Rainbow's response, and how his brothers (especially Janus) would react towards Roman.
So, there are a few possibilities here. *cracks knuckles*
If Roman had cut Virgil's arm off and Janus got to him in time, Janus would have been able to reattach the limb. Not much would've changed besides Virgil having a new tramatic experience to add to his PTSD list and Janus seeking vengence for that.
If Roman had cut off Virgil's arm and Janus hadn't gotten there in time to reattach it, the rest of Virgil's arm would have fallen off at the nearest joint. Which, understandably, would have caused some panic. Virgil would have found out the hard way that he has the ability to regrow limbs and everyone would have figured out that he's part drider much sooner.
This would have led to a very different meeting between him and Remy. Remy would have gone into it excited.
If Roman had killed Virgil... oof.
Thomas would be pissed. Because Roman knew Janus had claimed Virgil and there's no excuse for destroying part of his brother's soul. He probably would have sent Roman away for a bit while focusing on Janus.
All of Roman's brother's would have been furious with him and would mourn Anxiety. I think Patton and Logan would forgive Roman eventually. Remus and Janus wouldn't and this would create a greater divide between the dark sides and light sides.
Things would never be the same between the twins. Remus wouldn't let Roman forget what he did. He wouldn't fogive himself for letting Roman hurt Virgil after telling him he wouldn't let that happen. He'd spend a lot of time doting on Janus, supporting him in whatever way he could.
Janus's grief and grudge would be all consuming. He'd forever be aware of the piece of soul he'd lost and would never forget Virgil. Janus would set about a vengence campaign against Roman, never having the heart to truly put his brother in danger but always trying to get back at him for what he did. It would never be enough.
Remus would help Janus make Roman's life miserable. After all, it only seems fair when Janus will spend the rest of his life miserable, heartbroken, and only ever a fraction of himself. They would become well and truely hated by the rest of the kingdom.
It wouldn't help that Janus would become bitter and angry, constantly lashing out at those around him. He'd lose his trust in his brothers (besides Remus) and would eventually repress their memories of his name.
Roman, Patton, and Logan would in turn lose trust in Janus. They would always be looking over their shoulders to see if he would stab them in the back.
Nothing would be the same.

Ok I've finally found and read "Doctor Who: Shell Shock" - a Doctor Who novella from Telos publishing. And it has no right to be so good!
Plot: the 6th Doctor and Peri visit an ocean planet and nearly drown. However, they both are saved: the Doctor - by the community of strange crab mechas, and Peri - by the omnipresent entity, who wants to make a god out of her.
"Shell shock" is written by Simon A. Froward and told in 3 pov's: the Doctor's, Peri's and one of the crabs'. This story is very introspective and it's main theme is overcoming the psychological trauma.
The story explores Peri's tramatic past (tw: this novella has mentions of sexual assult). I really felt for her: for nearly whole her life Peri was a victum, she lived through so much fucked up events, and the worst part is - she always needed someone to save her, or otherwise she would have died long ago. Even in this story she can't escape on her own, but the option of finally gaining power to solve her problem is much worse. So to keep in control of her future Peri must stick to her worst memories and find a way to help the Doctor. As only working in pair they can save everybody and return to the TARDIS.
I liked that "Shell shock" explores the injustice of being a Doctor's companion. It shows how friends of the Doctor often feel as if they're disposible and unimportant. These relationships can be very toxic and unhealthy, especially when the Doctor themselves treats them as lesser people (a consistent trait of the show, likely born out of showrunners' unwillengness to let the Doctor's character evolve over numerous regenerations and not make the same mistakes over and over again).
I was pleasently surprised that the 6th Doctor's pov was his actual pov. Many DW novels (written in the 3sd person) suffer from the same strange choice: they show the Doctor's bits of the story too "detachedly" - like a reader is not in their head, but follows them like a movie camera in a TV show. As a result, readers don't trully know what the Doctor thinks, why they're worried and what their plans are. Even some Doctor's solo stories are told from the pov of an original characters. But in "Shell shock" we can experience all emotions of the 6th Doctor, like his grief (when he thinks he lost Peri) and his determination to make everybody as happy and save as they can be. That's why revelations in this story hit so hard - the reader identifies themselves with the Doctor befriending all new characters and wanting to protect them. As a result, the 6th Doctor feels more fleshed out and sympathetic than in some longer dw novels.
To sum up, I highly recommend reading "Doctor Who: Shell shock". It reminded me of "The island of Dr Moreau" in the best way possible - sort of aquatic retelling of that story with lots of deep themes and gray characters to explore.

Idea for angst hurt/comfort Dick Grayson is Neal Caffrey fic : Neal/Dick is in the hospital after an incident with a case where he hits his head (and maybe the circumstances bring up tramatic memories?) Sara comes into the hospital as he is waking and instead of being treated as her she is mistaken by Neal/Dick as being Babs.
So in walks Sara who despite everything has decided to commit to Neal Caffrey maybe at this point they are engaged (timeline what timeline?) and her fiancé greets her by another woman's name. She obviously gets upset and starts to leave humiliated and hurt but, as she turns to leave apologizes to the ghost of Barbra Gordon stop her in her tracks. They paint a horrible picture of Neal's past and she ends up comforting him by playing along and reassuring him he's forgiven and doing a good job or the right thing in turning over a new leaf and living a better less violent life. (May be some misunderstandings there of "getting out of the life" and being sucked back into it means + confusions/worry on the part of Peter watching from the sidelines when he alludes to their work starting to drag him back into it.)
Maybe this is post fall of gotham's heros and he's dimension leaped into the white collar world to start anew and leave his grief behind. Maybe he was married to Babs and lost her and maybe failed to look after her dad too in his grief. Maybe he married Kori and maybe they had a poly thing going on with Wally too and he lost them both and the children him and Kori had together. Maybe he knows Kori would be ok with him moving on but after her and Kate he needs advice from his oldest friend because it seems like he is cursed. (Totally have to have a comment that Kori would have loved Sara) He doesn't know how to commit to Sara fearing he'll lose her too and/or doesn't know how to tell Sara he doesn't want kids because he can't open himself to that heartache again but doesn't want her to call off the engagement. Maybe he also has his own doubts because Sara deserves a child.
I'm probably not going to write this so I throw it out in the tumblr sea where hopefully someone finds this idea and can make something out of it

I remember hearing an expression a long time ago on here that grief is like a ball bouncing around in a box. Whenever the ball hits the sides, you feel sad and it hurts. In the beginning the ball is really big, constantly hitting the sides. But as time goes on, the ball gets smaller and smaller. It hits the sides less and less frequently. And then very rarely.
But the important thing to note is that it doesn't change how much it hurts when it hits the sides. Even years after when that ball is tiny, if it hits just right, the pain will flare just like it did at the start.
Sometimes it's a phrase or a nickname or a shirt for sale in a shop or an article online. Whatever it is, expected or unexpected, it can still hurt years later. And that's okay. Giving yourself the time and space to feel it will help.
How do you move on?
You don’t. You just live with it everyday and time shall pass, memories turns vague and it would feel like everything was just a dream.

Fandom will call Rebels "too much of a kid's show" and "too light-hearted" and then ignore the fact that
One of the MCs, the kind compassionate mother figure, commits mass murder on-screen without hesitation via electrocution
One of the MCs has a canonical kill count numbering over 50,000
One of the MCs, the teenage girl, was exiled from her own family because she was manipulated into creating a machine that cooked her own people alive using materials unique to their culture
One of the MCs, the father figure, is violently blinded on-screen and also undergoes several episodes of torture (and said torture includes drugging and re-tramatization of him being a genocide survivor)
One of the MCs, a homeless orphaned 15-year-old boy, is shown learning into darkness, and has a moment where he controls a trooper into shooting his own allies/friends before forcing that trooper into committing suicide
The last MC (but not the least) is ALSO a genocide survivor and was so overcome with grief following his friend's death that he nearly beat someone to death
And that's just a small snapshot of what it covers.

Hey Arnold! time and time again has really comforted me in times of grief. This show always makes me feel like a kid again. I love these kiddos so much, I’d protect them with my life lol. And thank you Craig, from the bottom of my heart, for making this show. (Please do not remove the caption and/or repost artwork)

Courtney's book:
I finally had the time to read Courtney's book. I'm not embarrassed to admit I teared up at the Challenger scene.
While the first part is really about video games and Courteney finding her place in her divorced family (relatable to a divorce kid like me) and supporting her mom; the second half of the book is about coming to terms with grief, supporting people who are mourning, and watching tramatic events. You come to find out her sister Tina is having a hard time with the loss of her mother and the Challenger shuttle causes death to become real to Courtney.
This story is important to kids today as they have been exposed to televised trauma over and over. Kids are growing up fast and having to face their own mortality through school shootings and other events.
My friend Anna and I read the book at the same time and it sparked conversations for us about 9/11, Columbia, and the Virginia Tech shooting all of which we recall watching as they unfolded on the television. In the last event we both knew people involved (we live in Virginia not terribly far from the school)
Courtney's book isn't just about a girl daydreaming about videogames. It's a good starting point for talking to kids about when bad things happen and how to support someone through loss. I think it's a valuable resource and one which I wish I had as a kid.
Have you read Courtney's book? What did you think?

A has mind controlling abilities & sometimes likes to mess with B's head by 'killing' their friends or team members in front of them (although sometimes they really do). B never being able to decipher what's real & what's an illusion & so repeatedly having to go through the grieving process. When they finally manage to escape from A, having to go through the tramatic experience of figuring out which one of their friends/team members are really dead & which ones are still alive & well.
Good grief. That would be the whumpiest whump story to ever whump.

Honestly?
If Spinel broke the rules of the game and went to home world, she could have ruled the universe.
Like... The war happens, Pink gets "shattered," word is broadcasted everywhere in the universe. Spinel hears it, after thousands of years of standing, and breaks down just as much as she did in the movie, but is way more sad and heartbroken than she originally is. Unknowing what to do, she goes back to home world and to the diamonds, for some reason I'm sure idk. Like something to be like "what do I do now" and such the grief stricken Diamonds do, they either latch onto her immediately or they Destroy her instantly.
Say they latch onto her, she becomes the thing to fill the void in their hearts/gems idk man. They start off with adoring her, giving into every wish and whatnot. As time goes on they start to treat Spinel Just like how they treated Pink, given she's been trained to be royalty now and abuses her just like they did Pink when she acts out, forgetting that though she reminds them so much of Pink that she still Isn't Pink, yet also treating her in a lesser sense because deep down they know she isn't Pink, they can feel it. Cognitive Dissonance ensues. Spinel, at first Grateful for the care of the diamonds, now regrets just like Being Alive after being Absolutely Fucked Over living with the overbearing, manipulative, horrible Diamonds. In such a time, she doesn't quite blame Them more than she starts blaming Pink. It could have been different if she had just Taken Spinel with her, maybe none of this would be happening. Maybe Spinel could have been a general, or given her advice, Something other than just standing in that fucking garden for forever. Then the Diamonds wouldn't be as abusive, Spinel would be less tramatized and in constant pain. And just like in the movie she learns to despise Pink and everything that she was.
So she goes to earth to fuck with it and blow that shit up and she runs into Steven and the Crystal Gems and Chaos Ensues from there.
Or like... In change your mind Steven goes to them to make things right with the Diamonds and discovers Spinel in his mother's place and Crazy Shit Happens There Too
Either way I just had this Wack thought and wanted to share

Ai no kusabi ramble
Sorry I don't understand the Guy hate. Going by the novels Riki was 15 when he was taken in as a pet / sex slave. Guy is the same age or a year older. They were both children when this is shit happened. How would you feel if the person who you were in love with one day disappeared without a word. For three years you were left in the dark until one day he appears but instead of the love you craved from him he shuts you out and won't tell you what happened. Again your left in the dark. Then you figure it out it becomes clear he had become the thing he swore he'd never be and he lied to you about it. Then the next thing your friends are shot up and the person who you still love is again torn from you even though your mad at him you your love for them doesn't fade. He can't come home you don't know why. You can't tell me none of that is tramatic since they are still young guy probably being only 18. Yes guy kidnaps Riki but only because he believes he can save him. He doesn't understand that Riki is messed up mentally and can't live without the very person who scared him. Called it obsessive but I see it as young man who had someone he love snatch from him. He's not doing it to be cruel. It might be selfish but again he thinks he can save Riki. He's doing what he thinks is right. It isn't until Riki explains to him that no he can never return because their friends will be in danger, guy will be in danger. Riki confesses that for some fucked up reason he wants to be with iason. He needs iason touch and its something he can't just get over. Guy after hearing all this finally understands but his love for Riki will never fade and in a moment of weakness begs Riki to stay with him even though he knows him and Riki are over. And in his final attempt out of grief and angry cuts off rikis dick ( which I believe Riki let him do) thinking it will mean things can go back to normal but of course it all goes to shit and his lover chooses to burn to death with very same person he hates and despises. Riki chose iason over him. Don't you think he deserves to be mad especially when he told you he hated the Blondie's guts.
