might be a hot take but i LOVE haikyuu season 3… like yes girl i want 10 episodes about the same match!! yes girl go experience some life changing evolution to your character during these 60 minutes!! yes girl has ur character developed by the 3rd set? no? dw we have 2 more!! but like joking aside it truly was a game changing moment for karasuno, not only winning against shiratorizawa, but the thought process each character was going through while playing (plus the imagery that came with it) was sosososo cool and i will forever be an endorser of season 3 <33

rotten to the touch; luke castellan
Tumblr media
series masterlist
wc: 3.2k
pairing: pre-tlt luke castellan x f! reader
synopsis: you’re pretty sure you’re an awful person. you’re pretty sure luke castellan is too. and you’re pretty sure you want to make out with him.
warnings: reader is flawed & not the greatest, luke is ... a little dark🫣, small mention of blood, swearing, lots of making out but no explicit nsfw, a bit toxic, & no more more ‘i can fix him’ or ‘i can make him worse’ it’s ‘he can make ME worse’
notes: this is… sluttier than my usual stuff so it’s not as good but i’m trying, feedback is appreciated! also i wonder what cabin we think this reader would be in, let me know where you’d place her im curious :) maybe i’ll write more of her in the future she’s interesting!! and thank you for 100 followers i am so grateful<3 designated song for this fic is crush by ethel cain

You are a miserable, wicked, asshole of a person, and everybody knows it. Including you.
It’s unclear to you why you turned out this way—every reason to blame never satiates the fury searing your insides. All the campers hate you. The counsellors, too. Even Chiron looks down on the viciousness inside you. You are Camp Half-Blood’s black sheep; a mean, bitter person with no love for the people around you. And it’s not just for show. You know you’re rotten. You know the anger will never go away.
It’s evident in the things you think about other people—the way you pick them apart in your head, toss them aside, because they just don’t see it. This miserable, unforgiving world, with children sleeping on wooden floors because the people who created you think you disposable. Because they can just make more of you. More, more, more, until one of you comes out rotten, born of all the ugliness they have inside them. You are the worst parts of Godly blood. The wrathful parts.
Everyone hates you. Everyone hates a person with an unquenchable anger.
But everyone loves Luke Castellan.
He’s a saint at Camp Half-Blood if there ever was one. Handsome, generous, kind. Goes out of his way to help out the new kids and gives them homes in his cabin. He’s the best swordsman in camp by a mile. Shit, you’d even love Luke Castellan if you didn’t know any better.
But you do, and you don’t, and it’s complicated, okay?
Because there’s something you know about Luke Castellan that nobody else does: he’s miserable and wicked, too.
You see it in his eyes sometimes. The way they look at you at dinner, when you’re picking at your food away from anyone else at your table. Something familiar rises in them, and your stomach twists. His body tenses whenever someone mentions his father, but the smiles he flashes are so charismatic nobody notices. But you do. It’s exciting.
During sword practice, he quips back and forth with the kids and laughs whenever they take a jab at him. He’s light, easy, carefree. But you see how he holds back, the tension in his shoulder, the way the arc of his sword never fully finishes. So you wait until everybody leaves and he’s alone, with the training dummies and the setting sun. And you. Hiding.
He slashes through them and spears through their heads. You see it, the gnashing of his teeth, the sweat curling down his cheeks. There’s something there. A chasm he’s hopeless to fill.
Before you know it, you’re going out of your way to catch him training alone. It’s creepy, you know, and awful, you know, but the more you watch him the more you see a sort of violence scabbed under his skin.
Whenever you see him now, the feeling you get is entirely foreign to you. It’s almost . . . longing.
Wherever she is, you’re pretty sure Aphrodite’s having a cosmic fucking laugh. And you’re sure she’s laughing double tonight.
The Aphrodite cabin is hosting some secret party for the older counsellors. You’re definitely of age to be a counsellor, but you’ve never been made one because that would probably make half the campers drop out. Chiron and Mr. D don’t know what to do with you. You’re sure you’ll be kicked out of camp soon for good.
But you’re here anyways, for a reason you don’t want to admit, and you stay tucked in a corner as the world around you mingles. Luke is on the other side of the room, lovely as always, laughing with a few other counsellors. He brings a drink up to his lips, and you have a startling thought of what it would be like to kiss him. And you’re fucked. You’re so fucked. Because for the first time in your life you want something tangible, something real. You want to hear him and feel him and pry him apart, and a part of you wants him to actually see you, see all the awful things that might make you the same. You feel like a teenage girl with a crush, and it is infuriating.
An Aphrodite girl comes up to you with a foolish smile. “Hey, sorry, you want a drink?”
“Fuck off, you idiot,” you snarl.
You wait for her to leave. She doesn’t. “You know, you don’t have to be so mean all the time,” she says evenly. “If you’re here, you might as well enjoy it. So yes, I want to give you a drink.”
“Have you ever thought that I’m not being mean? Maybe I just am.”
You glare at her. She looks you up and down. “Sure,” she shrugs, walking away. There’s a vivid picture in your mind of her falling through a hole in the cabin floor. It doesn’t soothe you, but at least the fantasy is there.
The night drones on. You’re sick of the smells and the laughs and the heat. And you’re sick of yourself. You can’t believe, underneath all your sourness, you came here to stare at a boy you barely know, and you don’t even know why. He’s fascinating, and you resent him, and he’s also beautiful. But he’s looked back at you all of three times tonight and you’re sick of the way your skin crawls when he does.
Leaving the cabin brings the relief of the cool night air, and the singularity of your body. You are the only one who feels this rage. You are the only one who hates.
To stave off your discomfort you walk around to the back of the cabin, to the crest of the hill facing the water. The stars above twinkle at you in spite. There’s a bitterness in your throat you want to wash down with something worse (maybe you should have taken that drink), but you know it won’t matter. Nothing matters. Those stars and whatever they hide are apparently the only important things in the universe, so why should anyone care about anything?
They stars only get brighter. It’s probably their goal to piss you off. You grunt, “Oh, fuck you,” to them. It’s not enough, never nearly enough to expel the rotten part of you. “Fuck you. Fuck off!” You groan at the sky. Nothing happens. Until:
“I’m guessing you’re not having a fun night.”
You whirl around. It’s hard to see in the dark, but whatever light is left catches a long scar on a cheek. Your stomach knots.
“Yeah, me neither,” Luke Castellan says, hands in his pockets as he meanders towards you.
Even when he’s close enough, you don’t say anything. If you do, you’re afraid it’ll be something ugly. Like I kind of want to make out with you. Are you awful too? I need a lobotomy.
The thoughts almost make you laugh. Been a long time since you’ve been funny.
He nods at the sky. “Those things don’t talk. You do know that, right?” He’s still so captivating, so self-assured, even when there’s no one around but you.
“Gods, you’re the worst,” you scoff. You really mean it, so you can’t look him in the eye.
“Then why have you been staring at me all night?”
It catches you so off-guard that you whip back to face him. He has an eyebrow raised and the itch of a smile that makes you burn with shame. “What the fuck are you talking about?”
He shrugs, leaning against the cabin wall. “I’m not stupid. You’ve been brooding in the corner watching me the second you came in.” He cocks his head to the side, adding, “Actually, you stare at me all the time. At meals and stuff. I really hope you don’t think you’re being subtle.”
You huff. “Okay, if we’re really being honest here, you started that! You do it too! All the time!”
His hands shot up like he was being arrested. “Hey, I never said I minded it. A guy’s . . . just gotta wonder. What’s up with you spying on me when I’m training alone, anyways?”
“You have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“You watch me when there’s nobody else around. I’m not blind. It’s weird. If you want tips you can just ask me. Or if you like what you’re looking at, at least be upfront about it.”
You speak before you can take in that last sentence, or the way his smile took pride in itself when he said it, or how embarrassed you should probably feel. “You didn’t answer my question about why you started staring at me first.”
The anger (shame) blinding you made you forget how close you are to him right now. Close enough to touch, but not enough to see. But almost there. Almost.
“People think you’re mean,” Luke says after a moment, his dark eyes probing you. The words curl out of his mouth slowly, like he’s choosing them all with care. “You’re rude. You never listen to anyone. You judge everything. They all think you’re awful.” Again, he looks you over. “I’m not so sure.”
“If I’m awful, then you’re awful,” you spit before he can say anything else.
He just shrugs. “Well, I guess that’s why I’m not sure.”
It’s irritating, his calmness. He has the same anger you do. How come he can just . . . shove it down? You try to unearth any fury in his eyes, but it’s too far back. Simmering. “Jesus,” you mutter, “You’re worse than me.”
He looks genuinely taken aback by this. His scar deepens when his brows wrinkle. “What?”
“You’re a pretender—that’s what you are.” It’s your turn now, to step closer, to make his skin crawl. “Look at you. Everyone loves you. You’re this perfect golden boy and you’re sweet and attentive and whatever the fuck but you know it’s one giant lie. At least I’m honest, but you just sit pretty and act like you don’t have that . . . thing that I have. Resentment. Insanity. Whatever you want to call it. We’re the same, but I’m the only one getting shit for it.”
Now, you are close enough to really see him. The patterns on the wood behind him frame the vision of his ever-shifting face. You realize that this, like most things are to Luke Castellan, is a challenge. You also can’t remember the last time you saw him lose one.
But when you play, you play to win.
“You don’t know that,” he dares.
“Oh, I do. You’re rotten, Castellan,” you sneer, index finger jabbed into his chest. You can feel his heartbeat if you concentrate. “And you’re not owning up to it, so you’re also a coward.”
However scathing you look, it isn’t enough. If anything it only makes Luke’s manner more playful. Nothing feels playful anymore. Everything, inside and outside of your mind, feels like constant, exhausting war. Maybe that’s why you don’t slap his hand off you when it wraps around your wrist, keeping it pressed to the middle of his chest. His heartbeat thrums through you.
He tilts his face towards you, grinning, “Then why do you want to kiss me?”
All right. What the fuck. It feels like you’ve been electrocuted.
“What the—what are you talking about?” You blunder, but he knows, of course he knows, because there’s something between the two of you that has been formed and understood by eye contact alone. He can probably read your mind. As much as you don’t want to admit it, you’d like to read his just as much.
He cocks his head. “I mean, you did call me pretty,” he teases, and it’s almost endearing. “You’re pretty like this too.” His other hand comes up to your face, and you’re surprised you don’t flinch when his thumb gently smooths the crease in your eyebrows. “Don’t call me a coward, heathen. Then we’ll both be embarrassed.”
The nickname makes you want to fight, but the touch makes you dizzy. “You don’t want to kiss me, Luke,” you say with all the control you have, which, right now, is increasingly sparse.
“You’ve gotta stop telling people what they want,” he muses. The hand on your wrist traces further down your forearm. The one on your face snakes around your hips. “One of your more disagreeable qualities.”
His words fan over you. That fire simmering in his eyes has finally come to the surface.
“One of?” You challenge.
“You let me make out with you and I’ll give you a whole list.”
You snort, hoping it hides the shortness in your breath. “What a charmer you are.”
His lips brush yours. “Well, that’s what makes me so rotten, isn’t it?”
There’s hardly time to unravel if that’s a question or a statement because you grab a fistful of his shirt and he kisses you. Your heart detonates. It is not rotten in the slightest.
His body is warm and firm. You smell the cabin wood and the drink on his breath. It all matters, and none of it does. You’re warm everywhere as he wraps both arms around your back, and the way he kisses is, unfortunately, exactly how you thought he would. Your hands are tentative in his hair. So is your mouth on his. But Luke is so deliberate in the way he kisses that you know he’s thought about this, too. It makes you all the warmer.
His hand takes your jaw and tilts it up. You know your neck is shaky with breath, and you’re pretty sure he’s admiring it. You don’t complain when he presses a kiss to your jaw, then another one, like he’s testing the waters. “You’re so nice like this,” he mutters almost to himself, thumb running across your neck. “If only people could see you.”
“Then they’d see how mean you are too, no?” You huff. “You don’t want that.”
Another kiss to your jaw. “Not yet, sweetheart.”
Whatever feeling is harbouring in your body right now, it’s so fulfilling it almost makes you uncomfortable. You want to reject it. You’re not supposed to want things. Worse, you’re not supposed to get things. Luke starts marking a path down your neck and you are so determined to enjoy this that you’d kiss a fucking baby if someone asked you to. You might as well be a saint.
He bites the pulse point on your neck, sure to leave a mark, and a shudder rips through you. You’re pretty sure the bastard starts laughing. You hit his shoulder in retaliation.
“Easy, heathen,” he reprimands in your ear, and you know he’s still smiling.
“Don’t—don’t call me that.” You hate that you start to smile, too, and that your stomach burgeons with butterflies when he pulls back to look at you.
He touches the corner of your upturned mouth, kiss-bitten and red. His expression is boyish. “Hard to when it makes your face do that,” he goads. “I thought it was impossible for you to smile.”
“Be quiet.” You thread a hand through his camp necklace and bring him closer. You can almost taste his mouth on yours, but he sweeps past you at the last minute.
He gently tugs your earlobe with his teeth and whispers, “Yes ma’am.”
Fuck him. Seriously. You might have to.
It’s a tangle of teeth and hands and smiles kept hidden, as you slip your fingertips beneath his shirt and he does the same, and you’re both angry and greedy and incredibly destructive, but it doesn’t matter yet. Now you’re just teenagers fooling around at the back of a party, and it’s the first good thing either of you have had in a long time. Luke leaves you gasping whenever his mouth hits certain places, maybe too many places, and he teases you accordingly. “So sensitive,” he taunts, pressing his knee between your legs so he can see you squirm. You rake your nails through his scalp and he tilts his head back to groan. It shuts him up for a while.
He bites your neck until you say his name. You trace lines on his stomach till he takes your hand in his own. You’ve been hungry for something your whole life, and you finally have something to sink your teeth into. For better or for worse.
After Hades knows how long, laughter floats out from the front of the cabin. Sounds of feet tripping over each other and muffled goodbyes. You pull away from Luke, chests heaving together. His hair is wild, his shirt crumpled, and he looks entirely satisfied with it. Smug little shit. “Party’s letting out,” you mutter.
“What a damn shame.” His hand rubs your jaw, and it’s too tender a gesture so you angle your head away to peek over the side of the cabin. You barely pay attention to the kids straggling back to their bunks.
“Is now the time you tell me all my horrible qualities?” You ask once you’re ready to look at him again.
He clicks his tongue against the roof of his mouth. “Actually, I came up with more since I said that so I’m pretty sure it’ll take more than one night.” He fakes a wince, “Might have to spread it out for a few days.”
You roll your eyes, “Oh, you ass.”
“I’ll give you one for starters.” You feel like a tornado when he kisses the juncture between your jaw and your neck. “Your hands are too cold.” They’re tucked underneath his shirt right now, pressed against his back. You don’t move them. “And,” he adds, “you’re incredibly crass.”
“Thanks, dipshit.”
“Thank you for proving my point, heathen.”
The commotion at the front gets louder, and you know your time to go undiscovered runs short. “You meet me again tomorrow, and I start telling you the rest?” He raises his brows.
The prospect both repulses and excites you, although perhaps they’re hand-in-hand. You tentatively reach up to trace the scar on his face. A faint, jagged line that holds scripture within it. His eyes flutter shut for a moment. “Even though I’m rotten?” You ask, and there’s an echo of mischief in your voice, too.
He’s got a strange expression when he looks at you. “That’s not true.”
He leans down, angles his head to kiss you. It’s slow, but bitter, and he bites down on your lip until you’re pretty sure there’s blood. “Luke,” you murmur, and he kisses you softer. You lean into him like a hapless, lovesick fool.
After you part, he loosens his grip on you. The bumbling campers have gotten louder. He stares at you, and you see the chasm in his eyes again, brimming with fire. Same as yours. You know you’ll see him tomorrow.
He says, “You’re not rotten. You’re right.”
And damn it, you really do believe him.

The thing about HOO is that it's either egregious, or amazing, or just......really plain and boring.
It retcons and ruins Nico and Percy's relationship. It ruins Percy's characterisation in PJO. Piper and Leo are 15 and haven't been attacked by monsters or brought to camp yet.
It depicts Piper and Hazel in a racist way (light hair and eyes to make them more attractive, both Hazel's parents have dark hair and eyes and no one else in the Aphrodite cabin has Piper's kaleidescope eyes)
it fools the readers into thinking that Frank is 16 and Hazel is 13 because Rick wrote Hazel saying that Frank is 3 years older than her and while Hazel is actually fourteen, RICK NEVER CONFIRMED IT. So Rick was in fact writing a 13-16 year old dating dynamic.
It has Nico's acceptance arc be smashed to pieces.
It has Frank's fatness magically disappear after being given the blessing of Ares.
It doesn't release Calypso from her island when in TLO the gods swore on the Styx to do so.
And it puts a millenia old goddess in a relationship with a teenager, and Rick even depicts Calypso herself as a teenager while saying that she romanced adult men.
It has a wolf goddess who eats children who aren't good enough according to her standards, when those children could be amazing at something else instead of just physical training and survival.
And I do NOT know how HOO wasn't a YA series based on the last one alone.
But there are also those moments with characters where they really accept themselves, like Piper growing out of her internalised misogyny and becoming more confident, even though we never see it, so this ultimately falls flat. Or with Frank learning about and using his abilities to be a badass magical warrior, or having a nice moment with Reyna and Nico. Or how it shows Clarisse and Coach Hedge's relationship and Hedge's backstory and his understandable fear and concern for his wife.
And then it's just kind of boring at times. Jason is an underdeveloped character (with SO MUCH POTENTIAL MIGHT I ADD!!!) He should've been able to wipe the floor with Percy, Nico, Hazel and Thalia. And then his relationship with Reyna was barely expanded on. And Octavian, while initially set up to be an interesting character, was reduced to an absolute clown. Gaia could have been such an interesting, morally gray character, possibly the most complex in the Riordanverse, and Rick could've sent a message about environmental pollution and how we need to do something about it, which would definitely impact a lot of people, seeing as PJO is one of the most if not THE MOST popular book series globally. But she was just made into a cartoon villain instead. And Jason and Thalia's meet up was........dryer than the Sahara Desert, if I dare say so.
This series had so much potential-since the millennia long abusive systems are broken, why not have the camps discover each other after the Titan war? I will always mourn what HOO could have been

Nothing in My Hero Academia makes any sense.
Looking back at this series made me realize how much a lot of stuff never made any sense. A lot of stuff just happens without any rhyme or reason.
1. Why does the world of MHA look the same as ours even though it went through a life-changing change?
2. Wouldn’t it make sense if there were a major increase of villains than heroes since All Might kept the rate down more than anyone else?
3. What was Deku’s plan to get into UA if he never met All Might?
4. How has AFO not already taken over the world, with his infinite number of followers, infinite number of quirks he’s stolen for decades, and being able to kill the previous users of OFA before All Might?
5. How come secret identities don’t matter in a series about superheroes?
6. Why didn’t Nana Shimura change her last name to protect her son and herself from AFO?
7. What separates those with or without quirks if they can get a suit of armor or use a gadget that doesn’t influence or affect their quirk?
8. Why did AFO bother training Shigaraki on becoming a leader if he was going to mind-control him?
9. Was the doctor aware that AFO planned to hijack Shigaraki’s body?
10. Why is there an emphasis on Bakugo being a fan of All Might when he has no respect for him?
11. Why is Shoto invested in wanting to be friends with Bakugo?
12. How come Kirishima and Mina don’t care that Bakugo was actively bullying Deku?
13. Where is this counseling/therapy session that UA claims to have to keep Bakugo in check?
14. If AFO had access to Overhaul’s quirk, why didn’t he steal it or make a copy to help him or Shigaraki manage different quirks?
15. Why does Class 1A assume Deku and Bakugo’s relationship is a simple rivalry?
16. How and why did Aizawa assume Shoto lost his drive to fight since his match with Deku in the Sports Festival?
17. If Bakugo was taking Uraraka seriously during the Sports Festival, why did he accuse Deku for giving her a plan?
18. Why did Toga need to steal Deku’s blood during the Provisional License Exam?
19. Why is it bad when Deku tries to do something in his own and risks his life, but when Bakugo does this against Shigaraki AFO, it’s okay?
20. Why is Koji Koda trying to be a pro hero and not the world’s greatest animal caretaker?
21. Why are citizens with quirks not allowed to protect themselves when there are no heroes around?
22. Why does UA, especially Aizawa, have no respect or concern for their female students when they are constantly being harassed by Mineta?
23. Why was Bakugo and Mineta allowed to take the entrance exam?
24. Why did the police let Eri live at a hero school and not an orphanage?
25. Why did the heroes become active in saving Eri from Overhaul and not earlier when learning about the Yakuza?
26. Why would the population of Japan automatically be against the heroes when the country is being attacked after the Dabi reveal?
27. Why didn’t Dabi do his reveal at a time when there is peace and not when there is already chaos?
28. What is the point of the nomus?
29. Why does the population care if Bakugo joins the LOV when he already acts and thinks like a villain?
30. Why does Bakugo use his quirk in public without a license without facing any consequences?
31. Why does the story say that Bakugo’s moves are similar to Deku’s Full Cowl when they are not?
32. Why does Deku want to "Save people with a smile on his face" other than because All Might did it?
33. What was Dabi’s plan to expose his father if he never had access to the PLF?
34. Why was there no continuation to Stain and his ideology after his appearance?
35. How are the villains inspired by Stain when they want completely different things that Stain doesn’t want?
36. Why wasn’t Muscular executed after the Forest Camp Arc?
37. Why doesn’t the series show the perspective of how the villains have a hatred for the heroes other than the fact that they hate the way the world is?
38. Why does Deku feel the need to maintain a friendship with a guy who assaults him daily?
39. What is the point of having Bakugo die if he was going to come back?
40. Why does the series make a big deal when a major event changes everything but the setting remains the same?
41. Why did All Might kept his suit of armor a secret from everyone?
42. How did Sero fail his exam by being carried out but Bakugou passed?
43. Why doesn’t Bakugo do anything different to improve his relationship with Deku while knowing that he’s the reason for his self-destructive behavior?
44. How is Deku an underdog if he is given the most broken ability?
45. How is Bakugo so dedicated to helping Deku succeed and master OFA when the only time he helped was when he tried to force Blackwhip out?
46. Why are some of the students some overactive buffoons or some unlikable and petty jerk that don’t act like heroes?
47. Why didn’t Deku tell anyone other than Uraraka that he wants to save Tomura?
48. Why does Aizawa expect his students’ problems to be fixed on their own?
49. Why didn’t Deku come up with a plan to save Tomura after being asked if he had one?
50. Why didn’t the story have the news reporters record Yoga sacrificing herself to save Uraraka?
51. Why wasn’t UA called out for playing favorites with their students?
52. How is My Hero Academia considered a progressive manga when the only trans character is a side character or a villain who gets killed off and completely forgotten about?
53. Why are so many characters and their developments destroyed and undermined to be in favor of a bunch of assholes?
54. Why do a majority of villains in this series exist to favor or give Shigaraki an unearned victory?
55. Why wasn’t Bakugo punished for using his gauntlet during the Battle Trials?
56. Why should 1A care that they lost Aizawa’s trust when they shouldn’t have any to give him?
57. Why was Hawks’ first reaction to seeing the Twice clones in the final arc to kill him?
58. Why does Rei say everyone s to blame for Dabi and his actions despite Endeavor being the abuser and everyone else being a victim?
59. Why doesn’t Hawks reflect on his idol being an abuser instead of being a cheerleader?
60. Why is the pacing of each arc all over the place?
61. Why does the hero ranking system still exist?
62. What are the heroes going to do in the future if there is another Bakugo, Endeavor, and Dabi?
63. Why did Bakugo pick a fight with Deku in the middle of the night and instead of reflecting and questioning on why the LOV thought he would make a villain?
64. If technology in this universe so advanced that you can create robots and a suit of armor why can’t Tensei have robot legs to help him walk again
65. Why is Aizawa constantly making up excuses to justify Bakugo’s behavior instead of punishing him?
66. How is Bakugo a pillar of inspiration for 1A when Shoto, Iida and Momo exist?
67. What was the point of Kurogiri/Shirakumo as a character?
68. Why did Bakugo kill Kurogiri when he was just helping the heroes?
69. Why should I care about Mitsuki and Masura when the story fails to further develop and improve their relationship with their son?
70. Why does the “Save to Win and Win to Save” motif do nothing but fuel Bakugo’s ego and his abusive attitude?
71. What is the point of chapters 218 to 240?
72. What is the point of chapters 396 to 410?
73. What is intelligent and complex about the plans that Bakugo when people praise him for being a good tactician?
74. Why does Dabi have no reaction to Toga and Shigaraki’s death?
75. Where is the Todoroki family dinner without Endeavor?
76. Why is Rei stuck with wheeling Endeavor after the final arc?
77. Why does Bakugo get to know about the secret of OFA when he doesn’t deserve it?
78. How is Shigaraki supposed to be this great fighter if he’s constantly being bailed out by to plot to save him?
79. Why is Rock Lock portrayed as being unfair and overprotective when he makes a good point as to why he does want first year students involved in the raid?
80. What is the point of showing the LOV suffering if they were going to be irredeemable?
81. Why wasn’t Midnight told or learned that Kurogiri was Oboro?
82. Why in the end there so much put on Bakugo’s feelings rather than the main character?
83. Why does the story want me believe that Dabi is sympathetic and is worth earning a redemption when he’s really an unlikable psychopath that kills people for no real reason?
84. How is Shigaraki a good leader if he spent hundreds of chapters doing nothing with no real game plan?
85. Why wasn’t Dabi blamed for letting the heroes find the LOV hideout?
86. Why didn’t Gran Torino check up on Tomura after Nana died?
87. Why didn’t Dani check to see if Best Jeanist was dead and keep check on Hawks before the war arc started?
88. How is Aizawza a good mentor when he doesn’t teach his class anything important?
89. How can 1A not take the time to visit Deku is the rate of villains has gone down after they graduated?
90. Why does everyone hate 1A and see them as arrogant for being attacked at USJ?
91. Why are the civilians portrayed as being unfair and evil for getting angry with UA and the heroes?
92. What sense does it make to have Deku place last in the quirk assessment test after he spent months doing physical training with the No.1 hero?
93. Why is there less focus on quirkless discrimination and more given to the one that enables it?
94. Why does Shisou get transferred to 1A when most of his dynamic with them is him being an asshole?
95. Why should I care that Aoyama left UA if I already know he’s going to come back eventually?
96. If the movies are canon why don’t they play a huge factor in the story?
97. What sense does it make to host the Sports Festival to the public after the events of USJ?
98. Why were almost all the females heroes useless during the Overhaul Raid?
99. What exactly did Deku proved to the world about supporting and reaching out to villains by murdering Shigaraki?
100. Why is the actual final fight against AFO a loud, obnoxious and over bearing mess that combines all the worst aspects of Horikoshi as a writer?

Nezu is way too suspicious.
His Quirk allows him to cause chain reactions, a fact explicitly stated by Midnight, who also made sure to remind us that he holds a grudge against humans. We don’t know the full extent of his abilities, but we do know that his foresight is extensive—so much so that he planned specific routes for Kaminari and Mina to take during a crisis. That suggests his influence is incredibly far-reaching.
And Midnight? The only UA staff member who isn’t around anymore. Suspicious.
Now, let’s talk about Nezu’s involvement in key events:
1. The USJ Attack
• He’s one of the few who knew about AM’s Quirk, its limitations, and how little time he had left.
• Nezu deliberately held up All Might, making him even later to the attack than he was already going to be.
• If Nezu wasn’t directly involved in setting up the attack, he at the very least played a role in ensuring AM wouldn’t be there in time to prevent it.
2. The Successor Plot
• Nezu was part of the selection process for AM’s successor, encouraging him to choose a UA student before Deku even entered the picture.
• He personally voted for Deku’s acceptance into the Hero Course.
• He knew Deku and Katsuki were from the same middle school, likely remembered them from the sludge incident(which was in the paper) and saw that they some of the highest scores in separate categories.
• Then, he placed them in the same class and observed their very complicated relationship firsthand.
3. The Sports Festival & Its Consequences
• He allowed Katsuki to be tied up on live in an event that replaced the Olympics in popularity.
• Which directly led to him gaining the League of Villains’ interest.
• At the same time, this put Katsuki on Jeanist’s radar—setting up a future mentor-student relationship.
• All of this put even more pressure on Katsuki, forcing him to prove himself.
4. The Training Camp
• Nezu was one of the very few people who knew the camp’s secret location
Possibly even picked the location
Was in charge of many pros would be there.
Was vastly easier to kidnap Katsuki in this setting rather than the other failed attempts
AM conveniently wasn’t present.
(Frankly I think these play a big role than one student leaking the location)
5. Katsuki’s rescue and AM’s Retirement
• led directly to AM refacing AFO instead of the LOV
He then burnt out the last embers of his power, forcing him to retire.
• This intensified Katsuki’s suspicions about AM and Deku, making him dig deeper into their relationship.
• The guilt lessened Katsuki’s performance during the Provisional License Exam, which he failed—leaving him out of the work studies.
6. The Ripple Effects on Katsuki & Deku
• Because Katsuki wasn’t eligible for work studies, he missed Deku’s battle with Chisaki.
• This fight also cemented Deku’s personal investment in Eri, and reinforced his need to break rules for the sake of others.
• Deku’s actions, in turn, saved UA’s reputation by overshadowing another potential scandal.
6. The Long-Term Setup
• Jeanist was taken out of commission during Katsuki’s rescue, freeing him up for later.
• Nezu actively discouraged his staff from searching for a traitor among them.
• He finally implemented the UA dorm system, something he had been advocating for but never acted on—until now.
• He reassured AM that if nothing suspicious happened after the students moved into the dorms, then there was nothing to worry about.
7. The Final Stage: The War Arc & Beyond
• By the time of the war, Katsuki had matured emotionally and was able to fight alongside Deku for the first time in a villain attack.
• He had also become even more deeply connected to Deku, setting the stage for their intertwined fates.
8. Nezu’s Endgame?
And here’s what fucks me up the most—Nezu easily agreed to let the students ambush Endeavor and hunt Deku down.
It was never even a question whether that was in his power, Uraraka knew it would be, so it’s just common knowledge? 🤨
But how does he have the power to do that, like imagine being one of the leaders heading off a fascist uprising and your sons hs principal demands you come in and you have to because you used to go to school there???
And then UA becomes the shelter during the war, but it doesn’t come as like government mandate, it’s Nezus choice something he does as a concerned and caring individual
In the end nearly everyone who rebuilds society is a UA alumni, and Deku, the face of the war, now works there!!
So society has an intense gratitude to UA for holding them during the war, an intense admiration for producing all these heros, and there’s apparently a rule/law(?) that you are beholden to your old principles meetings even when the worlds ending 💀
Nezu owns society and he planned it!!!

Fourteen Days of MHA: Day 2
UA Academy, Education
In honor of UA/education day, I'mma learn you all some practical skills, à la the summer training camp arc.
How to make Japanese-style curry from scratch!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes, from scratch. Plus ultra. No pre-made curry roux box necessary for those of you who may not have access to such products where you live or who want to make modifications for food intolerance (this can be made gluten free! in fact that's usually how I make it). I will include two recipes: one for curry roux, and one for curry the complete dish. This is going to be my personal recipe for making curry, curry roux included, with some notes on other twists you can add to this dish.
Recipes below the cut. Let's get cooking!
Recipe: Curry roux
You need blocks of curry roux to make Japanese-style curry. If you'd like to go the easy route, buy a box of S&B curry blocks (the most widespread brand I believe) or from any other brand. But if you'd like to make this from scratch, here's how you do it.
Required Ingredients:
Note: This recipe makes about 3.5 oz of curry blocks or the equivalent of one small container of store-bought pre-made curry blocks. You would dissolve it in 2.5-3 cups of liquid to make curry. I double this recipe to make larger batches.
3 tbsp butter (or a neutral oil like canola)
3 tbsp flour (all-purpose gluten free flour works just as well)
3 tbsp curry powder (I use S&B curry powder)
1 tbsp tomato paste
Salt
Seasoning (see below)
Pika's Special Seasoning:
Garlic powder or garlic salt
Chinese chicken bouillon powder (or just MSG) (Lee Kum Kee has a gluten free option)
Ground mustard
Celery salt
Sugar
Black and/or white pepper
Chili pepper (I use shichimi togarashi), optional for spicy
These are the ingredients I typically use to flavor my roux. You may ask how much, and well, sorry, my measurements here are in my heart. I throw in dashes based on aroma and experience. I also like my curry strong and spicy.
Any ingredient can be omitted as all each does is add a new layer of flavor. No ingredients depend on any others (though sugar with tomato paste seems like a given to me). You CAN omit the tomato paste if you're sensitive to tomatoes.
Other Optional Seasoning:
Cayenne, optional for spicy
Ground ginger (fresh ginger would probably work too)
Onion powder (especially if you don't have MSG or chicken bouillon powder)
Garam masala (around 1 tbsp adds a sweeter flavor and a cinnamon-cardamom aroma)
Honey (I personally put honey in the curry after it's made, not at this stage)
These are ingredients others use that you may consider adding for different depths of flavor. I do not typically use them in this recipe, but I have been known to experiment with them on occasion. I've listed them in the order of how likely I am to throw them in on a whim.
Instructions:
Make one batch of roux for a small, mild curry. Make two batches of roux (i.e. double the ingredients) for a stronger and/or larger batch of curry.
Heat a skillet on the stove over medium-low heat. Optionally toast dry spices if desired, though not necessary, then remove spices and set aside. Melt butter (or heat oil, if using) in pan.
Add flour and combine. I personally use a nonstick pan-safe whisk to make sure it combines well, but a wooden spoon or silicone paddle would work too.
Reduce heat to low (medium-low if you're ready to watch that thing like a hawk). Cook 5-15 minutes stirring constantly to keep the roux from sticking to the pan and burning. You're looking for the roux mixture to turn light brown like peanut butter. It will develop a nutty aroma as it cooks.
Add curry powder, tomato paste, salt, and all desired seasoning ingredients. Stir to combine. The mixture should become dry and pasty.
Cook for 30 seconds to 1 minute or until all ingredients are well-combined and then turn off burner.
If using roux soon, set aside. If not using roux soon, put all the roux in a container lined with parchment paper. Score the paste with a knife to make it easy to break and remove. In an air-tight container, the roux will keep in the fridge for up to 1 month* or in the freezer for up to 4 months. *Caveat: If you use chicken bouillon powder or any ingredient that includes meat, I do not know if it will store in the fridge for longer than a few days. In this case, I would suggest freezing the roux to be safe.
Recipe: Japanese-style curry
Ingredients:
Note: My portions are determined by what fits in my pot.
2 tbsp neutral oil (canola)
1-2 lb protein (you can use any protein i.e. beef, pork, chicken, seafood, tofu, tonkatsu, etc., but I usually just stick with mushrooms for ease; if I do meat, I usually pick ground beef or cubed beef chuck)
1 batch of curry roux for mild curry (or 4 blocks packaged curry roux), 2 batches for strong (see above recipe) (or 8 blocks of packaged curry roux)
1 sweet onion (can substitute with yellow or white onion), sliced into half moons
1-2 carrots, peeled and sliced rangiri style
5-6 Yukon gold potatoes, cut into large chunks
8 oz button mushrooms (16 oz if mushrooms are the primary protein), cut into bite-sized chunks
2-3 stalks of celery, cut into bite-sized chunks
4-6 cloves or equivalent of minced garlic
1 quart chicken stock (dashi or vegetable stock or other stock or even water can also be used)
Meiji milk chocolate, 4-5 pieces (you can use any chocolate you like)
1-2 tbsp honey (add to taste)
1 grated apple, optional (I don't usually do this but it's a thing some people like to do)
Cheddar cheese, shredded
Cooked starch of choice i.e. rice or noodles
Pickled ginger, optional garnish
Fukujinzuke pickles, optional garnish
Instructions:
If your protein is raw and requires cooking or browning, prepare it first. Heat oil in a pot over medium heat and sear all the sides brown or cook ground meat until browned. For seared meat, do not worry about cooking it completely; it will finish cooking in the curry. Remove protein from pot. You can leave the drippings in the pot if you'd like to add their flavor to the curry. Ground meat might produce an excess amount of fat though, which you may want to clean out first.
Heat more oil in the pot and add the vegetables. Cook on medium heat for 5 or so minutes or until the vegetables start to develop color and the onions turn translucent.
Add back the protein and any accumulated juices to the pot.
Add chicken stock (or broth/liquid of choice) and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to a simmer and cover. Simmer until ingredients are tender and potatoes can be pierced with a fork, approximately 15 minutes.
Remove lid and reduce heat to low.
Add curry roux (or packaged curry blocks), chocolate pieces, honey, and grated apple if using. (If you'd like, you can break the blocks and chocolate up or shave them into small pieces with a knife.) Stir constantly, making sure to scrape the bottom of the pan often, until curry and chocolate are completely melted and incorporated in the liquid.
Simmer 5 minutes while stirring constantly. Cook longer if you want it to thicken more.
Serve over rice or noodles. Top with shredded cheddar cheese (in my opinion there is no such thing as too much cheese). Optionally garnish with pickled ginger and/or fukujinzuke pickles.
Store leftover curry in the fridge for 3 days. The curry and liquid may separate, but they'll combine again when you heat it up and mix it together. I'm not sure about freezing leftovers as it usually doesn't last long enough for me to get to that stage, but it's worth a try.
Now eat up, you damn nerds!

sorry if my rambling is not cohesive, but MAN i have so much to thank haikyuu for. hinata shoyo, in particular.
the first time i watched haikyuu, i remember that although i loved hinata, he gave me a lot of second-hand embarrassment (god forbid i accidentally get an authority figure's wig blown off). i loved his drive and passion, but i felt all twisty inside whenever he got humbled or criticized. i felt uncomfortable whenever he'd start rivalries with other players out of nowhere. but it was the s2 and s4 training camp arcs that made me realize why i felt that way; hinata was the embodiment of someone i was afraid to be.
it didn't help that i started haikyuu during the last month of my last semester. it was just one humbling moment after another. i made a fool of myself during a practical exam. i kept coming to my classes and exams late. i could barely study and write papers with the same energy i used to. i delayed and eventually discontinued promising projects. i just felt defeated, that i was not as gifted, smart, or competent as everyone made me out to be. i was so so close to giving up, but watching hinata's journey somehow turned me back around.
i hated being embarrassed. i hated sucking at things i thought i could/want to be good at. i hated the thought of other people saying negative things about me, whether those are rumors or factual statements. but all this made me do was run away, stay afraid, and miss out on things that could have helped me grow.
hinata though? he realizes his weaknesses, and actively finds ways to improve himself in the training arcs. every lightbulb moment and added skill is a middle finger to everyone who underestimated him. he reflects on the valid criticism that is given to him, even if it's hard to hear. he is successful because he has the right mindset that helps him through whatever life throws at him.
since i'm starting clinical internship soon, i'm so glad that hinata (and the entirety of haikyuu, really) brought back positivity into my life. even though the uncertainty terrifies me, i am so excited and grateful for all the learning opportunities i'll have. even if i make some mistakes, receive harsh criticism, or have a hard time, it is not the end for me. i won't lose my potential just like that.
anyway, i won't be playing volleyball anytime soon, but i suppose this is my "little giant" moment. hinata, you are so loved. thank you. <3
EDIT: hello to everyone who liked and reblogged this (or are about to), thank you for all the notes! i didn't expect this to blow up at all. hearts out to everyone who's in the same boat right now. i'm wishing you all the best! <3 also, i just attended an internship seminar about resilience, mindset, and goal-setting. i realized that hinata has what's called a growth mindset! it's worth looking up if you haven't ^-^

Within the narrative of MHA, All Might is supposed to be a "comic book hero" while All For One is a "comic book villain" doing good and evil for good's/evil's sake (like how early superhero comics in the 30s were written). But their ways of Heroism and Villainy could no longer suffice in a world that his become so nuanced and grey in tone, which is why, as part of the "passing the torch" theme, AM and AFO pass their roles as symbols to their successors, with Izuku learning what makes Villains the way they are, something AM and the other OFA holders never bothered to do (please ignore the fact the he was only ever successful with Gentle Criminal) and Tomura gaining the goal of wanting to destroy everything that reminds him of what made him a Villain in the first place, as he's come to despise a society so rotten that it is capable of creating someone like him (this is good). But all of that nuance to Tomuea's position as the main antagonist were ruined when Hori placed AFO into that role again to suck the enjoyment and nuance out of the entire third act, completely undermining and destroying the "passing the torch" theme previously established.
Hi @patrickowens86 👋
The clear cut theme of good and evil within MHA was introduced early into the story with people taking a clear cut role of either hero (good) or villain (bad). The beginning of the story literally describes the awakening of quirks as "fantasy becomes reality". This theme of fantasy becomes reality is repeatedly brought up with yoichi and all for one directly and has a lot of all might imagery indirectly hinting to all might.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As a way for the world to cope with people gaining superhuman abilities they tried to follow what was most familiar to them which was comic books. This ultimately "worked" for the most part until the rise of deku and shigaraki where like you said We're familiarised with a grey space that's the in-between of good and bad. The whole passing on the torch to the next person theme was established from the very beginning of act 1 and continued all the way until the middle of act 3 until it ultimately failed due to Hori choosing to bring back all for one in shigarakis body which ended up being a horrible writing decision that robbed the series of potential.
All might and all for one's actions are continually foiled with the way they treat their supposed successor and in reality after the training camp arc that resulted in the fall of all might and the the arrest of all for one shigaraki and Deku were officially given all of the responsibilities and handed the whole torch to carry on.
Tumblr media
The problem is that shigaraki wants to destroy everything his goals never developed into proper ones of him specifically wanting and targeting to destroy hero society. The closest we get is him wanting to get rid of the status quo (aka heroes to him) and the narrative usually frames his destruction as completely evil (without going to acknowledge that the status quo of MHA has harmed many) or that destruction and violence is simply in shigarakis blood (what redestro has continually said to shig during their fight).
I think it would of been more interesting if we got the concept of izuku creating a society safe for others and shigaraki destroying the status quo that then enables for izuku to create. I do think that the ending aka chapter 430 tried going down that route but the execution was lacking horribly and it also didn't work due to how underdeveloped izuku and shigaraki's dynamic is.
Tumblr media
Izuku's role was supposed to be for him to reach out and understand villains. He was supposed to understand the grey space and see the corruptness of society. Chapter 1 Izuku starts in a perfect way for him to see this with the prologue being "not everyone's born equal that's a lesson I learned at a young age". Izuku is also a victim to hero society but horikoshi lacks nunance when it comes to his victims so Izuku ends up being a good innocent no can do wrong victim while shigaraki is the complete opposite. In the end Izuku and shigaraki are framed as two extremes of two different sides with no proper nunance to them.
In the end both izuku and shigaraki were done dirty. Shigaraki was done dirty by not having his leadership role in the overhaul and MVA arc properly developed and he got his body hijacked by AFO ruining the passing on the torch motif while Izuku was stripped of the proper agency and autonomy for him to get proper intropsection and character growth so he ends up being an incredibly static character.

Shoto's First Kiss Timeline? Idk let's plot it out together
Tumblr media
Gif Caption: Me and Shoto sitting together on the train, vibing. 💕
Hi All!!
If you're a fan of the Shoto's First Kiss series, Chapter 5 dropped at like 3:30 am EST this morning because I am an absolute HEATHEN and decided to have a late night/early morning editing session for 3 hours before posting. This was fun because I decided to add the whole Lisa Frank phone background scene for kicks and add a little more build up to the smut scene (I love a slowish burn...what can I say!?).
@brie-is-cheesy had some great questions in the comments of Chapter 5, I'm going to post it below and answer the best I can! I don't have a full answer to everything and I'm taking some ✨creative liberties ✨ here and there but lets see if I can clear some things up for my lovely readers!
Hiiiii, totally loved it; I was wondering when this is set? Like the timeline, I just got confused I'll leave the list of confusing things about the timeline,, I wrote about how much I love this in my reblog cuz this is awesome!! -since bnha is set in the mid to late 2100s I was wondering if the older songs they're listening to will include songs that are relatively new for us as of now? -when does this occur? Like you mentioned they're in their first year, and its after they've moved into the dorms but it's nearing the summer of next year, so is it after the war arc, or after the events of bnha entirely? Just wanted to ask! Thank you for the update!!<3 - brie-is-cheesy
Okay these are FAB questions and honestly I can't give you a straight answer to all of them!
Here's the background: So this story started out as a one shot - this past year, Shoto hasn't been one of my main MHA favorites. When I started the Red Riot Unbreakable Heart blog, my goal was to focus on what I've been calling "My Big Three." This includes Kirishima (lol thus my username), Hakws, and Hitoshi Shinsou (I love me an emo man). I was sprinkling in smutty one shots here and there involving other characters (ex. BakuDeku Smut: Hooking Up At A Pro Hero Gala and Beneath the Bookshelves | BakuDeku ). Shoto was one of those random one offs that I was like, huh why not!? But then I published Shoto's First Kiss (Part One) this one shot about Reader x Shoto totally took off in a way I wasn't expecting. Shoto resonates a lot with you all and the more I started writing for him, the more I grew to love him. He's so complex and in need of love and care. He has so much capacity for love!! I wanted to explore that more and figure out how he would act in his first encounters with intimacy and relationships. So I kept posting chapters, and started plotting out this wild story!
Timeline: When I started writing the one shot, I wanted the story to ambiguously take place in the 2nd or 3rd year when the characters were a little older. I was kind of working it in an AU where the war had vaguely happened and was over but everyone is okay and no one was injured/died/had their quirk impacted by AFO. In the context of Shoto's First Kiss chapter one - the war doesn't matter (at least if you re-read it I hope you don't find any plot holes mentioning the war!?). Also I have tried to say "Class A" instead of "Class 1A" because as I wrote more chapters, I still hadn't figured out what year we are in here.
Now that we're world building and have a more fleshed out story, here's what I'm thinking. Bare with me, we are going to need to suspend some disbelief here and I might need to go back and make some tweaks to previous chapters to keep everything in line with this line of thinking. But let's say this:
Timeline: The timeline takes place in the character's 1st year. I just combed through this timeline of MHA that someone put together on Reddit. I'm thinking this likely takes place at the end of Term 1. Final exams are coming up, and the students have heard a little about the training camp. Most of the MHA events so far are probably cannon in my fic universe, unless otherwise mentioned. The great thing for me is - most of MHA is in the context of Izuku's experiences, so there's a lot of wiggle room in the timeline for what could be happening between Shoto x The Reader. I haven't decided if the current chapters take place before or after Shoto/Izuku/Ida's encounter with Stain, because I can see some interesting plot points coming from that. I'll think about it!! This may change, but for purposes of continuity I think this could work as I move forward with my plotting!
Age: All the characters are at least 16. Let's just roll with that and take some creative liberties here. I'm aging everyone up.
The Dorms: In this fic universe, I pictured the students moving into the dorms at the start of the year. Like the dorms are just part of the normal UA experience - for all intents and purposes it's a boarding school.
The Songs: Okay this is a really interesting idea! I am literally just putting in playlists of music I like right now, I didn't think much about modern music flowing into the story. Lol would Honenuki listen to BRAT!? Maybe. I love him and think of him as a sweet chill cinnamon roll of a dude, though. I think he would be scandalized by Guess Featuring Billie Eilish. Or maybe he'd love it. He'd def love Chappell Roan, though. Dude is a sloot for Red Wine Super Nova and I just know it!
The Vibe: @ all of my beloved readers - I realize that this story means a lot to people, and I love that!! Even though we explore complex and serious subject matter at times, this is still a goofy silly story that I write for fun! Please don't hold me to these ideas that I'm throwing out in a semi-public brainstorm. I am but a simple fanfic writer who churns out most of the Shoto pages at midnight after I work two jobs. Shoto's First Kiss is a project that I write purely for fun and to build community with other adult MHA fans. I'm not like going to publish this as a book or put it on Patr*on behind a paywall or something. So let's keep it light! That being said, I love interacting with everyone so if there are fun questions that you think would be interesting for me to answer in this story, let me know! I'm very open to hearing thoughts and considering new ideas here :)
Update!!! *2/2/25* | Hitoshi Shinsou is in Class A. He was transferred in earlier in the year. Don't question it...just go with it. We love Hitoshi. Hitoshi belongs in Class A. Class A also currently has 22 students because I've decided the war hasn't happened yet in my AU timeline. So students #21 and #22 are Y/N and Hitoshi, respectively.
Okay okay SORRY FOR SO MUCH INFO! Thanks again @brie-is-cheesy for being so thoughtful in your reading and for asking these great questions! This is def going to help me guide the next few chapters of the story as I plot things out and as we get a satisfying next chapter in The Party arc. I'm going to post this reply on my Master List so we can all keep track of it and come back to it easily if needed.
As always, thanks for reading!! Sending good vibes to all ☺️
