Toshiko Sato from Torchwood can we just say girl deserved so much better.

Today I present another favorite character of mine Toshiko Sato. Such a clever and silly character but girl needed to know her worth.

A tech genius who was a bit warped on the inside (in the words of Ianto Jones) Torchwood honestly would be useless without her.

She so cute and sweet and I just loved her character in Torchwood. I wish her, and Martha had more of a friendship, someone needed to talk some sense into Tosh so she could realize how amazing she is.

I needed to see more of her especially her and Jack and her ending is just so 😭

I just love her need I say more.

Actually now that I have started thinking about it, its a shame Martha and Tosh never interacted in a meaningful way because their stories are so similar.

They are both smart, beautiful and capable woc who are made to pine after some white boy who doesn't look at them twice and more often than not treats them like shit. They both have had feelings of inadequacy despite being brilliant due to said white boys' infatuation with white women (Gwen and Rose).

I think them interacting would've really helped Tosh since Martha had just gotten out of a similar situation and would've had great insights for her. (Namely, dump that moron. You deserve better)

But ig that would've required the showrunners to retrospect on how they treat their woc and oh, we can't have that 😑

despite the ending of reset making me want to scream & cry like a deranged weevil even now, ten years since i first watched it, i will forever love how my queen martha jones was welcomed into torchwood immediately. jack, gwen, owen, tosh & ianto never for a second made her feel unwelcome there, she was like the guest of honour, her skills were valued, she fit in so well & so quickly. even dr. owen harper (when he was alive he's allowed to be a bit salty after literally dying) never spoke down to her, never acted like he was superior to her or that she was second best as a fellow doctor, there was never any uncomfortable animosity between martha, gwen & tosh, jack in his role of team leader propped her up, was excited to introduce her to his team, never made her feel stupid & had the risen mitten 2.0 not worked, probably would’ve offered her owen's job before the man was even in morgue draw. the brilliant martha jones always deserved better & i wish she had joined torchwood as the sixth member 😩

dude i multiship so hard in this fandom i dont think there’s a single combination i havent thought of + found a way to enjoy, and that extends to trios. AND i like tw poly. i am mashing them together like barbie dolls. i am having sm fun here in my room

even the ones i don’t exactly “like” still make me Feel Things (more on that later), and even the ones i tend to prefer as friends (more on that later, too), i can still see it if i want to yknow. that’s what’s fun about the slutty bisexy show! woo! they all compel me. 

nonetheless, here are the pairings i like the most, ranked by how often i think of them + how insane they make me. im not gonna gush a ton, actually, bc i get annoyed w how much i talk, so ill keep every explanation under 15 words

owen x ianto: I Want Them Covered in Blood Together (Gnashing My Teeth) (by fall out boy)

owen x andy: golden retriever boyfriend for owen bc sometimes it’s nice to not be angsty (gooseberry who?)

owen x jack: i dont know how they make me feel but they make me feel Something :/

ok i lied ill say a couple things. firstly my otp being owento… i’ve talked a bit about it but in brief it started out because i can't resist having at least one enemies/rivals to lovers ship per fandom and ep12 blew my mind a little - and then something just Clicked and they somehow achieved top ten ships of all time status in my brain?? idk what happened there. i usually go for canon-based ships, so having one that kind of lacks substance in the source media (allegedly; i think they’re fruity in canon. but u know what i mean like theyre not ‘canon’ in a show where there is in fact gay TEXT rather than just the subtextual shit theyre doing yanno) and is largely a beast of my own creation (+ the influence of the wonderful handful of fic writers we’ve had over the years) has been rlly fun. 

im largely preoccupied with those two, but i’ve found jack + his relationship with ianto kind of inherently haunts owen x ianto… if you’ve read my fic you know what i mean by that. i can’t see owento existing on its own, like janto fundamentally co-exists next to it so i have to take it into account, and then jack and owen also have a fascinating relationship so i’ve kind of just ended up spending a lot of time thinking about and figuring out owen x ianto x jack in all combinations, because there’s a lot of fascinating stuff going on there from every end. introducing owen to the equation also kind of… ig redeems janto for me, bc i found them offensively underwhelming in s1 and s2. they should be dark and fucked up, and they’re not. owen kind of… brings smth dark and fucked up to the table, and a lot of why i like shipping him with ianto is bc they bring shit out of each other - and owen, for his part, is capable of bringing out ianto’s repressed rage and forcing him to deal with things he’d rather try to compartmentalize and ignore… i find that super compelling, and i also find it useful for breaking down my issues with how jack & ianto’s relationship is initially presented. like, he’s a handy narrative tool for that hfsdjkf. point is, whether i like it or not, jack and his relationships with my girlies (owen n ianto are the girlies <3) is kind of also an intrinsic part of what most of my fixation-oriented brain power goes into thinking about. i’ve been developing this huge fic ‘verse fdhfjk.... Im Very Tired

sometimes i like fun, though, which is what’s behind a lot of those other ships. i’m generally into very dark + angsty + psychological themes, but sometimes fluff and domesticity and occasional silliness is nice, and that’s what’s behind owandy (i have an au where they meet before owen dies) and iantosh (+ gwen x rhys) as my sort of… alternative endgame. my comfort ‘au’. not an au, exactly, but an alternative fluffier world to the darker owento-based one i’ve crafted and spend most of my time thinking about fdshkfj. i also like sending jack off to go bother the doctor, in this ‘au’, because unfortunately i don’t think he’s conductive to the team’s happiness. i think he needs to find his own way to heal and that should probs include the doctor, considering how obsessed jack is with them + how much he needs to unpack All That Shit he has going on before he can be any sort of truly positive force in the lives of the tw team. so for now he’s banned from the polycule for jack crimes. listen, i love that torchwood’s inherently sad and dark and lonely, it’s what compels me, and i’m ultimately glad that’s the core of the show - but it doesn’t have to be. sometimes i enjoy a nicer alternative. i think they could fix it. and that’s what fandom + fanfic is for. 

i also have several ot3s i enjoy, mostly owen ones. i think he deserves a bf + a gf, i think it’d fix him. put that bitch in a bisexual sandwich and maybe he'd behave. in particular, i love owen x tosh x ianto, it’s the only place i ship owen/tosh bc i think ianto would keep owen in check and they’d all better each other. i love owen x tosh x andy for similar reasons. can you tell the four characters im biased towards fhdskj. (i love gwen just as much but she’s kind of doing her own thing with just rhys and jack imo fdkfjsd. perhaps torchwood is composed of two polycules and jack is the link between both of them)

Shetland TV show

I've just finished watching all eight seasons of Shetland. I absolutely love it but was I the only one who thought Jimmy Perez deserved a better romance? Not only was there no on screen chemistry between Jimmy and Meg but it was really sloppily done; no one at the BBC picked up the massive continuity error. They start dating in season 6, dancing around each other not sure if they want to commit. At the end of season 6, Tosh discovers that she's pregnant. At the beginning of season 7, Tosh's baby girl is three months old so approximately a year has passed. But Jimmy and Meg's relationship hasn't progressed at all. Seriously, if you're not sure if you like them enough to be serious after a year, then the answer is No. And we were supposed to believe that Jimmy was deeply in love with Meg. Ridiculous! It would have been far more believable for Jimmy to have admitted to being in love with Duncan or Tosh; at least he had chemistry with them and clearly cared for them both. Yes, it would have been messy but life is.

Unconscious

In which everyone goes for a walk and Razmatazz has a hair trigger reaction when startled

 Razmatazz squeaked and flinched backwards. He stumbled over his tail and fell, clutching the ragged piece of wood he called a staff to his chest.

 As he hit the ground, he flung out a spell that slammed everyone backwards.

 Silence in the wake of the crash of thunder that reverberated along the road.

 “Damn, Raz,” Chant said. “Are you alright?” She helped him back to his feet.

 “Yes, I – I think so.” Razmatazz adjusted his hat, pushing the wide brim back so he could see before him. “Oh dear.”

 Five people – two humans, an elf, a gnome, and a tabaxi – were sprawled, scattered and flung back in an arc from where Razmatazz stood.

 “Are they – I didn’t kill them, did I?”

 Chant poked at one of the humans with her cane; he groaned in response. “Naw, just out for the count.”

 “Oh, that – that’s good.” Razmatazz let out a sigh of relief and relaxed his tight grip on his staff, walking forward to examine the gnome.

 “Why?” Karo asked. “They planned the same for us.”

 “Well–” Razmatazz didn’t really have an answer so much as an uneasy feeling.

 “Murder bad, Karo,” Chant said, a teasing lilt to her voice. “Right, Tosh?”

 “Right!” The eladrin – Summer guise, all yellow tones and spiky hair – threw Chant a salute. “We have to leave the world better than we found it.”

 “Doesn’t that mean clearing out those that would do harm?” Karo crouched to disarm the group.

 The gnome was slight and well-groomed, dressed in what looked to be expensive gear. The back of his head was damp with blood where he’d hit the ground.

 “Everyone deserves a chance, Karo,” Tosh said, sounding reproachful. “How will they learn otherwise?”

 “And if they do not wish to learn? If the harm they cause is intentional.”

 “I wouldn’t have come if you were just going to start on ethics,” Chant muttered, pulling the tabaxi to the edge of the path.

 Razmatazz giggled as he tried to help, lifting the gnome partially into his arms and dragging him after Chant.

 “Should I not have given you a chance? Should we not have given Chant a chance?”

 “Hey, leave me out of this,” Chant called. “But for the record, I appreciate it.”

 Tosh giggled. “See?”

 “Chant agreeing for her own sake is not the endorsement you think it is.”

 “Well excuse me,” Chant muttered to Razmatazz as she passed him with the elf. “Here.” She put the elf down and helped him take the gnome the last few steps.

 The gnome groaned as they set him down, blinking.

 Razmatazz squeaked and hit him with his staff.

 Chant snorted. “We should probably make tracks.”

 “That – that seems wise.” Razmatazz nodded.

 “Yeah, they’re gonna be mad when they wake up.”

 “Serves them right for attacking us just because Raz is a goblin.” Tosh patted his shoulder. “That was unnecessary of them.”

 “They will not learn from a sore head,” Karo said, eyeing the unconscious party as they passed. “They might be angrier. They might come after us.”

 “Yeah, and then we can fuck ‘em up proper.” Chant swung her cane over her shoulders and winked at Karo. “And if they die in that attempt, well. We gave them a chance.”

Karo laughed.

 “Phorg would agree with me,” Tosh said. “I’ll ask it when we catch up.”

 “What does Newt think?”

 “Newt thinks–” Tosh tilted her head to listen to the mouse on her shoulder- “that we should have taken their supplies,” she sighed. “And left a note.”

 Razmatazz listened with half an ear to the conversation, drifting to the edge of the group. The immediate judgement wasn’t something he was a stranger to, but every so often…

 Newt squeaked in his ear, nibbling at strands of his hair to get his attention.

 “Thank you,” he said gravely, smiling slightly. “I suppose that they don’t really matter.”

 Newt nodded, sitting back on her haunches.

 Razmatazz puffed out a breath at his fringe, not doing more than ruffling it.

 Newt squeaked some more, flicking her tail into her paws.

 “Is that so?” Razmatazz asked, as if he could understand her. “That’s quite the bold claim.”

 “Melitele’s tits, Raz, save me.” Chant dropped into step beside him. “Can you knock me out? Just for a bit?”

 “And drag you in the dust behind me?”

 “Well – leave me at the roadside, I’ll catch up later. Or never.” Chant shrugged. “Better than these two–”

 She was interrupted by Tosh’s bright laughter, and the young Eladrin darted past them. She flung herself through a cartwheel and came up grinning.

 “Who won?” Chant asked.

 “She argues a successful point.” Karo spread their wings.

 “Oh, how does that feel? Does it hurt to admit?”

 Tosh changed her form, becoming a bluebird and darting up into the open sky.

 Karo didn’t respond to Chant before they followed Tosh into the air.

 “Well.”

 Razmatazz grabbed at his hat to stop it blowing away.

 “Now it’s just the two of us.”

 Newt squeaked, turning in a circle.

 “The three of us, my apologies,” Chant said, flicking Newt’s tail.

 Razmatazz giggled as Newt ran down the length of his arm and onto his staff.

 She leapt, changed forms, and was a hawk soaring after the others in an instant.

 “I was right, then.” Chant grinned. “Just the two of us.”

 “No finer company,” Razmatazz replied, once he was sure the others wouldn’t be able to hear. “Unless you would still like me to knock you unconscious?” He grinned up at her.

 Chant laughed and pushed the brim of his hat down over his eyes. “Impertinent whelp.”

 Razmatazz ducked free and pushed his hat back above his eyes.

 They walked farther down the path, until Chant shaded her eyes and squinted.

 “I think I see Phorg.” She glanced down at Razmatazz and grinned, picking him up. “See?”

 Razmatazz squeaked and grabbed at her horn to steady himself. He peered forward. There was a rise to the path that he couldn’t have seen over from his own height, but up here he could see Phorg ambling along the path towards them.

 “It is.” Razmatazz nodded. “Um. Could you put me down?”

 Ahead of them, Karo dived to meet Phorg, Newt and Tosh on their tail.

 Phorg straightened up and waved to them, waiting for Karo to land before it started walking again.

 “Guess we’ll be turning around.” Chant didn’t set Razmataz down. “Do you think that group will still be out for the count?”

 “Maybe they will have moved on.”

 “If they haven’t, can I have a shot at thumping them? You took them out too quickly.” Chant grinned.

 “After Tosh’s speech on letting people change?”

 “Oh, I’ll explain first if that makes you feel better. I’ll even let the others take turns.”

 Razmatazz laughed. “Thank you.”

 “Of course.” Chant shrugged. “What else are friends for, if not knocking out the people that insult you?”

Hi! I don’t have an AO3 account just yet so I don’t think I can comment directly on Space and Time Takes Violent, Angry, Things (and Makes Them Kind), but I just want to say that this fic has become one of, if not my FAVORITE fics of all time! As someone who loves 11, Amy, and Rory but wishes they had a better arc in series 6-7a, I love love love seeing them get the stories and character growth they deserve. And Torchwood being included! River/Tosh! The Doctor apologizing! Family bonding! Angst with a happy ending! This fic has checked off every single one of my boxes and I love it with my entire heart. I keep rereading the chapters posted and it just gets better! I can tell that this fic will be one of those permanently engraved in my brain and I will be rereading it for YEARS to come. I can’t thank you enough for writing it. Please take this ask as a billion kudos and all of the hugs in the world <33

First off, I literally shrieked with delight when I saw this in my inbox (and then proceeded to shed a small tear). You are so very sweet and this means so much to me I cannot tell you how much I appreciate this. It means the absolute world to hear that you're enjoying the character growth and the Torchwood additions and the way I took the Eleven/Amy/Rory relationship and the family bonding (all of which were big goals for me). Also to hear that you're rereading it is the biggest compliment in the world as a writer, just behind the fact that this will be "permanently engraved in your brain" or that this is one of your favorite fics of all time! When I tell you I am going to be riding this high for the next couple of days, I mean it!

I know that the most recent update leaves on quite the cliffhanger (sorry not sorry for that one), but it's the inciting incident for planned character development for Eleven's Season 7 arc as well as priming Thirteen's arc (I don't know if you've followed this account at all, but Eleven is going to be regenerating directly into Thirteen because I really wanted to continue exploring how regeneration and gender interact in this series + give the other "lonely" Doctor a chance at happiness like I did Eleven) and so I'm really excited to see how people react to it.

Lastly, the next fic is going to reveal something I've been foreshadowing from almost the beginning of this series (it might be my favorite plot twist I've ever written), so I hope to hear if you like it/if you think the set-up pays off well.
