ahhhhhhhhh this is everything. fullstop.

i am so excited to see how this unfolds because, oh, my. if this doesn't just trickle my brain in the best way. like, the idea of Johnny and Bird being bullied into a relationship with Ghost (the Cranky Old Man) is toptier. like something straight out of a thriller but. you know. romantic and cosy (for maybe 2/3 of the participants lmao). and i just??? i CANNOT wait for Johnny to sheepishly walk in with Ghost, this massive tank of a man that's drilling holes into her head without blinking, and being all, "listen. it's what we all want." (and then the slow pan to Ghost's hand tugging on Johnny like a marionette).

also, i have to mention this because i read it eight times.

Not family, but close. The thought of family is sheathed within him; he knows to leave the knife in lest he bleed. Still, Johnny’s fought his way onto the list and now he has to pay with his pound of flesh.

ahh, i am Unwell. this, honestly, is just everything. Johnny inadvertently offering his hand to the gnarled, rotten old stray who decides to bite off his fingers as thanks????? HNNGGGGGGG. i have so many thoughts about it but will end up writing you an essay you didn't ask for, so i'm gonna go lay down in the dark and think about this all night. thank you for this FEAST.

prompt: forced throuple au; Ghost decides that you and Johnny are his (part 1; ghoap x reader)

Johnny’s been bragging about a pretty bird lately.

Ghost listens because the periods between missions are long and colourless—he fills the time with paperwork, PT, exhausting his muscles in the gym, and dissociating in a booth at the only good pub on base when Johnny drags him along—and it’s better to tune out the thoughts in his head and replace them with something else. Besides, for as much as he gripes about poorly trained dogs barking too much, he enjoys the sound of Johnny’s voice. It quiets the faint ringing that follows him wherever he goes, an agitated humming that leaves him, on his best days, on the brink of rage.

“Tinnitus,” a doctor says when he brings it up during a routine check-up. Can you shut that fucking noise up?

“Best we can do is get you hearing aids.” Apologetic, sincere even. Stained, as always though, by a trembling, noxious unease. It emanates off the doctor in waves.

Hard not to feel uneasy around a man in a mask, Ghost assumes. That’s all part of it though. He doesn’t cultivate comfort, doesn’t attempt to engender soft feelings or put the mind at ease. His body and persona are designed to put the body and mind on the knife’s edge of fear, and then tip it over. He leaves the sweet talking and charming to men like Johnny, who babbles red language in a tongue like larkspur.

Ghost’s first language is oil slick. It stains and it covers and it darkens everything it touches.

And now, Johnny’s talking about a bird.

A couple months after Las Almas, the first picture comes out. Not a folded up keepsake tucked away in the pocket of a bag or a wallet or the inside of his jacket, but right on Johnny’s lockscreen on his phone. He disapproves at first glance. Not of the girl, but at the thought of keeping something so valuable on display for anyone to see. It’s not how he functions. Everything sacred is burned, destroyed, or—if precious enough—buried so deep underground that salt miners might greet it on the way down.

“Pretty, eh?” Johnny goads, nudging Ghost with his shoulder. He’s all wide grin, eyes electric-blue like the flames of Kawah Ijen.

She is pretty. Pretty as pie. Not a speck of grit or blood on her; if there’s any edge to her at all, it’s tempered by her smile in the photo on Johnny’s phone. A sugar sweet cunt, by the looks of it, sure it’d taste like candy if he got his mouth on it. He angles his eyes with Johnny’s lips and wonders how many times he’s eaten her out, if hers was the last cunt he ate. Likely. His boy’s the loyal kind, hard to shake off once he’s got his teeth in. Swapping spit or blood, he doesn’t leave once he’s got a taste.

“Where’d you find her?” he asks instead of agreeing, and takes a swig from the bottle in front of him. The bar’s hardly filled out yet; the two of them come early because Ghost’s an old man—that’s what Johnny would say—and doesn’t like to be around people once the sun’s set. It’s a burnished gold now, sun hovering low in the sky when Ghost turns an eye to it.

“Florist. Met her when I picked up flowers for mam’s birthday.”

Nearly a month then. “And I’m just hearin’ about this now?”

Not in this same pub three times a week since then. Not on the tarmac, suited up and sweating already beneath two layers of gear. Not in the shower beside Ghost’s, fingers reaching over the side for a bar of soap because Johnny can’t be arsed to get his own. Not with his head slumped to let Ghost shave the sides of his head nice and neat, thick fingers splayed over the delicate bone of his skull that Ghost knows would take nothing to break.

It rankles him until he looks back down at the phone in his hands—the one he’d plucked from Johnny’s fingers even while he whined about Ghost always stealing his shit—and feels his heartbeat slow. It levels out like staring into the scope of a rifle, the molecules of his breath melding with the molecules of the air until even the sound of his heartbeat dulls to the insects around him.

Johnny purses his lips. “…Wasn’t sure then. Am now.”

“Cunt’s a cunt. What’s there to be sure about?”

“No.” Johnny shakes his head vehemently. “She’s no’ like that. She’s special—I’m telling ye, Lt—” he stresses when Ghost snorts, the sound thick with scepticism, “—she’s a good egg. Smart one. Sweet as pie.”

Sweet as pie. Mutt half-shares his thoughts these days. They must have brought more home than just shellshock and keloids.

Johnny squawks when Ghost unlocks his phone and thumbs through his photos, trying to wrench it out of Ghost’s hand to no avail. He’s easy to hold back. All he has to do is put down his beer for a second and get a handful of hair and jerk, and there it is. Peace and quiet. A wince bleeding into his peripheral vision while Johnny mumbles something under his breath about him being a mean bastard.

He snorts again. Even from Johnny, he’s heard worse.

There isn’t much left of him these days. A tired husk and a taste for Guinness. He bleeds and shaves and wipes it off, smells the viscera still staining his mask that he hardly ever washes, can’t bear to honestly. Waste of fucking time, as far as he’s concerned. Just going to get dirtied again, soaked in blood again within the week. Shaves his head too just to have less to deal with, less to distract him from the single-minded intensity he brings to the job. He’d dematerialize if he could, become a ghost in name and shape, if only the laws of physics allowed.

Instead he’s saddled with a body that echoes back his age in creaking joints and low back pain. Scar tissue that aches when it gets cold.

In the months he’s known Johnny, he’s never let himself think about the world outside their bubble. His rank demands a certain level of socialising, and while he doesn’t schmooze with the brass like other lieutenants might, Ghost hardly has the privilege of isolating himself all the time, but still he can count the people he considers close on one hand.

There’s a switch that’s been off for years, closer to a couple decades, and it flips back on when he finds this man that trusts him without question, that follows his orders and looks up at him with these big, puppy blue eyes. It twists something in his chest. It turns him into a thing that says maybe it’s better to take than just covet.

There are other photos of the girl in Johnny’s phone, some likely not meant for present company (Johnny flushes red when Ghost flips to a picture of his bird in a pretty little number, lace cupping her tits and ass, sitting on Johnny’s bed back home and looking back at him over her shoulder with a little grin). Still, it interests him to see this side of his boy; he’s maybe thought of it before in abstract terms. He knows that Johnny’s no stranger to a wandering eye, not with the way he’s built and his pretty boy face. He’s well acquainted with Johnny’s dick, hard not to be in such close quarters; it’s a nice, pretty thing, just like him, a good handful. Nothing like the ruddy battering ram in between Ghost’s legs. The one Johnny once got a glimpse of in the showers after a two week long stint in Kyrgyzstan and paled, mouth gaping open while he stared until he could finally laugh it off.

Ghost remembers thinking detachedly about how lovely that little gaped open mouth would feel around his cock.

Surprising that it took this long for him to cotton on to his own desires.

“Bring ‘er around then. I’ll see for myself how sweet she is.”

Johnny scowls at the sudden uproar from a nearby table. “No’ a chance in hell. Dinnae trust any of these fuckers to behave around her.”

Ghost hums. He’s not wrong to be wary; under the table, Ghost runs a hand over his bulge and gives it a squeeze, lifting his thigh to readjust. She has a lovely mouth too.

He’s been breathing fire and brimstone recently. Hungering to hear something break. It takes Johnny’s hand on his arm to hold him back, every cigarette puffed down to the filter. The pictures on Johnny’s phone make it seem easy though.

Johnny’s been bragging about a pretty bird lately, preening at every opportunity to show her off. He doesn’t know that it takes approximately eight seconds for Ghost’s brain to file the girl in Johnny’s phone under mine, slotting her right under Johnny in that category and isn’t that just perfect because it also takes approximately eight seconds for Ghost to imagine what she might look like under Johnny.

He hands Johnny back the phone, face down. “You get one week. Then I wanna meet your bird.”

The main criteria used was 1) how useful is Watson, united with 2) is he close to the canon/if not is it a good change and 3) how much of a presence he has in the adaptations

S -> I couldn't choose 1, so all 3 got to be in S. Granada Watson helps Holmes with his deductions from time to time and even takes the first step in an investigation if necessary. He gets plenty of screentime and I can not imagine the show without him. He just has so many things to do and I adore how they changed the text to make him more relevant! Radio Holmes, at least in the episodes I listened, does not really get to deduce with Holmes but he is allowed to have additional dialogue where he has more room to express what type of character he is and how his relationship is with each character he interacts with. I love the aditional dialogue they included in A Study in Scarlet and how much he seems to struggle with the aftermath of the war. It makes him seem like a proud man, and sometimes it is a flaw so thank God he isn't just the kind uwu best friend guy. Soviet Watson also has new ideas to be worked with, and I can't express enough how much I love the soviet adaptation of The Empty House: the Watson screentime, the grief, the bad things happening to him, his reaction to Holmes coming back, it just adds so much to him. He is also cute 😔 he deserved an S 😔 leave him be 😔

A -> no one is worthy 😔

B -> These two have original interpretations of the character I don't usually see. I mean, Watson was 30ish yo when he met Holmes, so seeing him being actually much older is something new. Seeing Holmes adaptations where Holmes and Watson boxe is not something new for something filmed in slavic territory, but the new thing is that Watson wins even with his injury. He also gets to move the plot forward because he basically is the main character. The reason why he's in B is just... I didn't really click with him?? Like, I can believe he's Watson but there's just something there that I can't really point out what that makes me not like him as much as I do the others. And David Q. Dawson is in B because although he is original, overall a intelligent mouse and can be just as much as a character without anyone nearby as he is when he is around Basil, he still doesn't add much apart from that - I still do appreciate him though.

C -> Elementary Watson is... something else. I like the backstory change and her interactions with Holmes, and I also understand that the whole concept for making her a woman was because Holmes appears to be misogynistic in canon so they wanted to play with that, but I couldn't really see Watson in her just as I couldn't really see Holmes in Elementary Holmes. However, Elementary Watson is still shown as being a necessary part of the series - I can notice when she leaves, her presence is notable. Guy Ritchie's Watson also has a big presence in the two movies, hopefully will also have with the third one, but I just wasn't a fan of him picking up fights with Holmes all the time and he overall is just a standard Watson, not really adding much to the adaptation realm. He is just what you would expect for an action movie adapdation of Sherlock Holmes, that's what I'm saying. I still think he's neat though, I'm sorry 😔

D -> These column is for the "You tried ❤" Watsons. No seriously. Every Watson in this one is trying to have new concepts or to at least be in a fun adaptation, but there's something in each of them that make the atempt just be... an atempt. Sherlock Gnomes' Watson being irrelevant is literally a major plotpoint, but I can at least give them credit for the original idea of making him the bad guy. I haven't seen any adaptation where Watson was the bad guy yet, and this one was the first, and thank God this movie at least has something going on that I can clinge onto. Private Watson starts out fine, but he looses his presence throughout the movie. There's a point in the movie where you ask yourself why is he there if the focus is that 'Lady Ashwood' and Sherlock Holmes trying to find her husband/understand what he was doing before he died. For real, he looses A LOT of presence after the whole ballet drama and after he treats 'Lady Ashwood'. I wish he was more of a character there, he had potential to make some scenes funny or light up the mood but then he didn't. Sherlock Hound's Watson is... normal. Nothing much to add about him. He's still a gentle guy, but he is just Book Watson But Furry And Less Dialogue.

E -> I'm just not really fond of these three. Tom & Jerry's Watson manage to be even more irrelevant than Tom & Jerry's Holmes and he mostly just has a hug-sized design. BBC Watson is not that relevant to the overall narrative even if he has many interactions with BBC Holmes, but most of the time I feel like he is ready to fistfight that guy and I just question if their friendship is healthy because, like, BBC Holmes is a jerk and BBC Watson is angry all the time - not the best combo. And Yukoku No Moriarty's Watson is just... there. He's wholesome, though. Really wholesome. So there's that.

F -> Stockholm Syndrome isn't funny, get him a therapist.

Still2gether - Adding it in case you haven’t seen it yet <3 It’s a sequel to 2gether and it is just so lovely, so wholesome, absolute perfection all around, and i wish I could go back in time and watch it all over again 😭

A Tale of Thousand Stars - Do it. Just do it. A priviledged boy and a volunteer teacher’s lives collide when he receives a heart transplant and she’s the donor. To fulfill her last wishes, Tian travels to Pha Pun Dao village where he undergoes a life-changing journey (and meets a very stern forest ranger). It is stunning. The best drama I’ve had the honor to watch. There’s a beautiful, beautiful romance involved, but it’s so much more than that. It’s a story of healing, the beauty of what it means to be selfless and giving, and most importantly about valuing one’s life. 1000000000/10

Dark Blue Kiss - Absolute favourite! Petekao are toptier, there are a lot of important conversations surrounding lgbtq issues, and all supporting characters are so amazing and so well rounded. i honestly cannot recommend it enough. DBK is, however, a sequel to Kiss Me Again, but GMMTV graciously added a 3 part cut of all their scenes, which i definitely recommend watching since it explains how they got together. (1 | 2 | 3)

Gaya Sa Pelikula - It’s a Filipino BL masterpiece centered on Karl and Vlad, who become ‘accidental’ roommates and bond over their love for movies. It also includes a ‘fake-dating’ trope. 10000000/10

He’s Coming To Me - P’aof, who directed S2G, DBK & ATOTS, also directed this, so of course it’s amazing. A ghost befriends the only living person who’s able to see and talk to him; together they attempt to solve the mystery surrounding Mes’ death. 10/10.

Theory of Love (SPECIAL EPISODE) - Love crying? Then this is the show for you! *finger guns*. It’s a drama about unrequited love between two best friends. Both characters are film majors, so there is a lot of film references which is so, so cool. It’s one of my absolute favourites.

Until We Meet Again - Love crying EXTA HARD??? Well 😞✌... It’s a soulmate/reincarnation plotline. Two star-crossed lovers commited suicide 30 years ago, and years later their reincarnations meet again at University. It is very very very good, but it can be quite hard to watch at times. [ suicide tw ]

Ingredients - Two roommates - one a cook, the other a musician. Cooking is the language of love in this series and it is sooo cute!! The episodes are also very short and easy to get through. It’s just pure fluff and serotonin and amazing food.

I Told Sunset About You - Estranged childhood best friends who reconnect years later. Feelings happen. There’s honestly nothing I can say that will do this show justice. It’s poetic, so fucking stunning!!! The cinematography alone makes it a must-watch.

History 3: Trapped - OMG 😭😭 I recently finished watching a week ago and I want to go back. It centers around a police officer who has been investigating a gang related shooting that happened 4 years ago. In particular, he is after Tang Yi, the sole survivor. This leads them to become entangled in a deadlier game and they need to figure out exactly what happened years ago. 11/10

Where Your Eyes Linger - It’s 8 episodes that are less than 20 minutes each. Which is a tragedy because this show is amazing. It’s about a boy who comes from wealth and who lives with his bodyguard.

Color Rush - It’s the Soulmates of it all 👌. Main character sees the world in black and white until he meets his new classmate and through him, he is able to experience a world of colours for the first time.

Mr. Heart - THE CUTEST!!!! A marathon runner who is strugging to reach his full potential is helped by a pacemaker. He is a little bitch, but slowly warms up to his new friend and feelings develop. This drama should have been 45 minutes long because it’s absolute perfection.

We Best Love - Enemies to Lovers with a little unrequited love sprinkled on top. I highly highly recommend it. It’s so sweet and lighthearted, and the scenes between the two leads are just soft. It’s so good, just so good. And there’s going to be a sequel next month!! So it’s the perfect time to watch it now.

Manner of Death - A medical examiner investigates the murder of his childhood friend. He is joined by Tan, also a friend of the victim. All signs point to him being the murderer but all is not what it seems. ... this show is... something (affectionately). This was the most fun I’ve had watching a drama in a long time, and there’s just many twists and turns. 10/10

Oh well I finished the duology Six Of Crows and Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo.

Finally since the first book slept in my kindle library for nearly a year now and I hadn't read it.

There's so much to say that it's probably going to be a very messy post. I'm sorry.

Anyways firstly I went to the fanarts after the second book (as everyone would lmao).

Kaz is 17 and Matthias is 18. I don't understand why everyone is able to draw Wylan younger but these two just look like they're in their midtwenties. BUT no hate to any creator or artist I'm really happy to see how other people portray them which kind of brings me to another point:

Them being as young as they are do be tough to imagine.

Matthias doesn't look like 18 at all (at least in my head). The Fjerdan in general always seemed like another type of species which made their hate and prejudice against Grisha kind of funny.

He was just pure muscle, tall as my door with broad shoulders.

While we're already talking about him: I don't like nor tolerate Matthias slander.

I get why everyone didn't like him in the first book. Me neither. Don't get me wrong I absolutely loved that he behaved logical and stuff but you know? His hate against Grisha and his dumb speeches about honour weren't it.

However the fact that he was able to change and that he was able to love Nina so unconditionally was incredible and so unbelievably beautiful to witness.

Another thing would be Kaz. And how the fandom favours him so much.

I like his character. Very much even. He's really interesting. Also his whole personality is really well written and his trauma is crushing your whole life underneath.

But I'm still trying to fully love him like the fandom does because I kind of can't...?

It's not like I hate him. I just feel like maybe I don't understand him? Maybe that's the problem?

The only thing I thought about while reading the first book was: why do Jes and Inej love this dude?

He treats them like sh*t.

Though through learning about his past I came to realize more and more that he is only 17. He's anxious and scared and he was left alone in the dark with these way too big burden life laid on his shoulders when he was only 9 years old.

Inej is wonderful. Doesn't need an explanation. She's just everything you could wish for in a friend. Her keeping the group together was amazing and she's just so brave, strong and argh-- I could go on about her forever. (I also loved her Suli proverbs! (I hope this is the correct term)) And her friendship with Nina was toptier.

Basically every character was very enjoyable and I think this would just end in a gigantic loveletter if I was to mention everything I adored about every single one of them. So I'll stop here. Just know I'd adopt Wylan immediately if I was given the chance. And I'd pay everything just to see the crows sitting in my living room and talk with each other.

Now everyone seems to worship the books and I can see why but at the same time something is missing and I don't know what it is.

I'm incapable of telling anyone why I don't really count these books as part of my top three list.

They have a strong plot with many twists and turns which I love, they have great, logical characters and character development which I see as the most important part in a book. The world building too was interesting to learn about yet I can't seem to be too emotionally invested.

Not that I'm an apathetic person who doesn't react to stuff that happens in fictional media because that certainly isn't the case but these books didn't catch me as others did and I don't know why.

Maybe I need to reread them since there's probably a lot I didn't get in the first sitting?

Though there's also the fact that I found the scenes where sad stuff happens or where you would normally fear for the characters where often too short or just cut off so another pov could take the stage.

For example when Wylan and Jes fight against the Grisha on parem in the ice court.

You'd expect them to struggle and they do but it only takes them about two sentences before Jesper has figured out how to overcome their enemies.

Or Matthias whole death scene.

Everyone cried at that apparently but it was too fast for me to even realize what happened and I was just like: does Nina have an Rapunzel Arc? What's happening?

And then he was dead and I was just: oh... okay?!

Apart from that it was still a very fun read that'll probably stick with me for a longer time but it's still not one of my favourite series...

Ah-- I'm struggling!

It gets even harder since I absolutely love the characters which is contradicting with my reading philosophy that oftentimes only consists of: wonderful characters=wonderful book.

Fantasy/Historical Jikook fics, more European worldbuilding rather than Joseon era world (that's just how my mind processed it)

1. Animadverto by anoria_bard

When the Emperor married the Diamond of the North, he thought he'd got himself a docile little omega who'd keep his mouth shut and look pretty next to him in paintings.

What he got instead is Jimin, the sharpest diamond of all of Northrend, and a constant thorn in his side—winter has no place in the Court of Suns, and never will. So how will the Court ever warm up to Jimin, who seems to be the very embodiment of winter?

A happy Consort makes for a happy Court, everyone knows that. So, in an effort to keep Jimin entertained, the Emperor gifts him a lover. A very skilled one, one the courtiers will gossip about for months to come—and who knows, who might also be able to thaw the Diamond's heart once and for all.

Review: The sexual tension is toptier! Open ending but it doesn't hurt as much just leaves me more excited. Jimin's personality in this top-notch!

2. Sheets of Ice, Dreams of Fire by thisneedsmorefilth

Jimin has been betrayed and sold out enough times to know better than to trust pretty words. He’s got his list of names, got his goal and that’s all this is about.

But these pretty words.

From this pretty man.

Would it be so terrible to let himself believe?

Review: I would describe this fic as hurts so good :'( I love the dynamics between jikook and this also has a open ending. I would suggest y'all to heed the Trigger Warning, there is sexual assault and Jimin goes through a pretty shitty time, from the second chapter though, it gets better.

3. the venom in your veins by anoria_bard

Jimin is an Empire elf with no homeland, no family, and no direction in life. All he has ever known is kill or be killed, and he liked to think he was pretty good at the killing part: he'd been trained for it since he was a child, after all.

Jeongguk hails from the Kingdom, a military-controlled country of humans who value strength and power above anything else. It used to be something he'd always been proud of, until he found out what his country did to the elven Empire.

Review: Just realised this is also by Anoria_bard, i guess they write historical aus that are really my style with Jimin who is always pissed off at the world for some other reason, I love it. The enemies to lover tension and its really well written with a plot so freaking good, I feel like I've already recommended this because it's just that good.

4. He hath given his empire up to a whore by May_Belle

Now, Jungkook sees Jimin more frequently, almost daily, and each day the omega appears more beautiful than the last.

Parading around in his beautiful silks, always with a tempting view of his chest or with a deep slit in the flowy legs of his pants that exposes the milky skin of his pretty thighs.

And most recently, always in the company of different men.

Review: I love this because it has two of the things i love the most, Jimin being so hot Jungkook and everyone thirsts after him and Sexual Tension. It's a one-shot and a fun read, also ambiguous ending.

(omg just came to know it has a sequel damnn, will read soon enough.)

5. Like I Would by jonghyunslisterine

Summary:

Jungkook's dreams are filled with nothing but Jimin.

If only Jimin wasn't betrothed to Jungkook's brother.

Review: One-shot, really short but sexy, I love possessive Jungkook fics I'm sorry
