Drawings of mine that make you turn up the brightness of ones screen.
Anyway. I uh. Listened to Radio Holmes Hounds of the Baskervilles again and what can I say. 20/20. What a way to portray the ending.
[ID: a digital drawing of a scene from The Hound of the Baskervilles. Holmes and Watson are standing close to each other on the moor, Watson is holding Holmes by the shoulders while Holmes, one hand on Watsons arm looks after Stapleton who's a tiny dot of light in the distance. Holmes trouser legs and the rim of his coat are coated in dirt. A lantern on Watsons arm is eliminating the two. /End ID]

so i’m re-listening to the sherlock holmes radio drama from the beginning and i forgot abt that time watson explains that he noticed there’s two completely different sides to holmes personality and how he just read about that in a medical journal like. he’s trying so hard to diagnose this man. watson’s like it’s almost like his personality is… bipolar? ugh nvm that sounds stupid

The Devil's Foot: Granada/Radio Holmes Edit
(bonus, under the influence of the devil's foot itself, in the radio adaptation, holmes and watson quote this simultaneously)

do you still have the radio Sherlock Holmes? 🥺
Hello, I am so happy you ask, yes I do! Here they are:
Included are the 60 short stories originally written by Arthur Conan Doyle and adapted for Radio by the BBC, with Clive Merrison as Holmes and Michael Williams as Watson (in 64 episodes, bc the longer stories are split up into parts), and the 16 Further Adventures, this time with Andrew Sachs taking the role of Watson.
I hope you enjoy them, they're really well done and to this day rank among my favorite Holmes adaptations ever. Also, this is the only adaptation in history so far that has managed to do all 60 original ACD cases!

*cracks knuckles*
Leaving tomorrow for a quick trip to England, starting in London. Downloaded all the BBC4 SH radio dramas to pass the time, and I am STOKED about it. Like greeting old friends I haven't seen in a decade or more.
Wish me (and my writing muse) luck!

the radio holmes writer(s) could’ve stopped after the one-sided pining but they rlly went yea lifelong comphet watson, holmes gets very guilty over clients he’s failed and also has a fear of losing his mind. and for that I’m eternally grateful.

The Bert Coules adaptation of The Blanched Soldier is.... intresting :)
The story of a man looking for his army 'pal' (who he 'loves', by the way) cutting in with Watson on his honeymoon with his new wife.... in which he takes her to the Reichenbach falls.

Oh and I think I know you like him but Sherlock Holmes ? Your fav interpretation/version of course
(unrelated, when i get them back, i should show you a very cool french comic about Sherlock Holmes i found back then...)
Tumblr media
You gave me the liberty, so I hope you know I was thinking about Clive Merrison's Sherlock Holmes. I love him in the books too it's just that Clive Merrison's is trapped in an unrequitted love situationship with Michael Williams' Dr. Watson and I swear it's almost canonical, I could go on for hours as to why that is
A FRENCH COMIC ABOUT SHERLOCK HOLMES?

to all the people reading the devils foot for the first time bc of letters from watson and losing it over the tenderness between holmes and watson when watson saves him, believe me when i say you GOTTA listen to the bert coules radio adaption of the story. the homoerotic tension is THROUGH THE ROOF

yesssss it's fantastic! Also featuring: the King being more transparently shitty than in the book, to the point where after he leaves Watson goes "you're not SERIOUSLY taking this guy's side in this, are you??"
Holmes only agrees to rob Adler because "a man who is willing to burgle a woman thrice will not stop at smaller crimes." Truly the SCAN adaptation of all time.
watson: sherlock holmes was not attracted to women and the only time he ever came remotely close was with irene adler. incidentally, and this is completely unrelated, irene adler crossdresses frequently and extremely well. anyway i forgot what i was saying

[Begin transcript:
Holmes: Poldhu Bay? Hah, you're not content with dragging me to Cornwall. It has to be the furthest possible extremity!
Watson: Ah, come on. Confess it. It's the holiday you hate, not the place.
Holmes: Hm. Perhaps.
Watson: (Laughs) Thought so. You like it here just as much as I do. And with good reason. It's magnificent.
(Pause, seabirds cawing)
Holmes: Have you noticed how quickly the wind turns?
Watson: Hm?
Holmes: Yes, one minute the water's sheltered and safe, the next it's treacherous. This whole bay is a death trap.
Watson: That's a gloomy sort of observation.
Holmes: Well, look inland. A whole race of people lived here and now they've vanished completely. All that's left is a few burial grounds and stone monuments. Heh, the place encourages gloom.
Watson: Eh, I wouldn't call it gloomy. Romantic, yes. It has mystery. If there are ghosts, this is the place for them. I think it's inspiring.
Holmes: You're not the only one to think so...
Watson: Huh?
Holmes: So starben wir, um ungetrennt. Ewig einig, ohne End'. Ohn' Erwachen, ohn' Erbangen. Namenlos, in Lieb' umfangen.
Watson: That's beautiful.
Holmes: It's by Wagner. Tristan and Isolde. Act two. It's set here, on the Cornish coast.
Watson: What do the words mean?
Holmes: They're a hymn. To love.
Watson: Huh. Eh, you see? Romantic.
Holmes: And to death.
(Pause, instrumental of "So Starben Wir" begins)
Holmes: So let us die and never part. Together, for the rest of time. No more waking, no more fearing. Nameless, endless, loving, sharing. Existing only in each other. Wrapped in love and death and darkness.
(Instrumental continues on without him, and then fades out)
End transcript.]
