Does anyone else ever think about just how QUIET Watson is? He talks much more in later canon, but he’s mostly very silent, soaking everything in.
Maybe it’s just that he doesn’t write his own reactions very often, because he thinks that he’s less interesting to the reader than Holmes.
But Holmes mentions that Watson has a “grand gift of silence” so I think he’s just a quiet guy.
It does add to the idea that I’ve built up in my head of him, that he’s this strong silent man, very stoic and very steady.
Which is a really interesting contrast to Holmes, who is constantly MOVING and TALKING. In fact, I think that it creates a conflict within both characters’ personalities. Holmes’ mannerisms are loud and hyperactive; but he’s the one who notices things, and is the thinker. Meanwhile, Watson is a quiet listener, but he’s also the man of action. He is stubborn and passionately emotional, as opposed to Holmes who is more calm and calculating.
I literally have no clue where this whole essay came from lol

It is the 1920s, and in a sleepy Sussex village, beekeeper and former world's greatest detective Sherlock Holmes (James Quinn, Apostasy), is trying to arrange a pleasant clifftop picnic for his lifelong companion Dr Watson (Andrew James Spooner, Muppets Most Wanted). The only problem is that a series of mysteries keep getting in the way!

Features
Explore a seaside town It’s the day of the village fete, a suspicious new neighbour has taken a lease on  a long-abandoned cottage and something strange is happening down on the  beach…
Interrogate and befriend a fully professionally voice-acted cast of eccentric characters including a clown with a tragic past (Felix Trench, Wooden Overcoats), the local leader of the women's institute (Alison Skilbeck, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, (yes that one)) budding young naturalist (Alice Osmanski, Sanditon), a wannabe showman (Layla Katib, Victoriocity) and a prickly police officer. And lots more. I love this cast to bits.
Make deductions and decisions. Puzzles have multiple solutions, some of which may please your neighbours more than others.  What path will you choose? Who will you enlist to help you?
Phone for help of you get stuck! Your older brother Mycroft (Richard Rycroft, Game of Thrones) is always ready to act as your consultant, just give him a call at his club if you need a hint.

This is the biggest disappointment of my life too
forever mourning how granada holmes never adapted the three garridebs. diabolical. unbelievable, even. 'if you had killed watson you would not have made it out of this room alive' but in brett's frightfully intense and low, biting, hissing voice. the violent, wild stare versus the gentle hand on watson's knee. all of that precarious control getting flung out the window. the humanity of it. gritting my teeth can you fucking imagine.

I know I already reblogged this BUT I JUST CAN’T WITH THEM
They love each other SO MUCH
“This is a more serious matter than I expected, Watson,” said he. “It is fair to tell you so though I know it will only be an additional reason to you for running your head into danger. I should know my Watson by now. But there is danger, and you should know it.”
“Well it is not the first we have shared, Holmes. I hope it may not be the last.”
I actually can’t stand them

“We had a pleasant little meal together, during which Holmes would talk about nothing but violins, narrating with great exultation how he had purchased his own Stradivarius….this led him to Paganini, and we sat for an hour over a bottle of claret while he told me anecdote after anecdote of that extraordinary man”
SOOOOO many things to unpack here. Most obviously: AUTISM BABY. Holmes’ most prominent special interest (besides ash, of course) is music, particularly violins. He talks about this stuff for an hour straight (also he’s probably a little tipsy, I love the idea of drunk Holmes just infodumping about his special interests)
I also LOVE thinking about how SHERLOCK HOLMES IS OBSESSED WITH PAGANINI IN THE SAME WAY THAT WE ARE OBSESSED WITH SHERLOCK HOLMES.
And the fact that Watson LISTENS to all this. Not only that, but he ENJOYS it. He finds spending time with Holmes pleasant, not a chore to get to the cool deductions. He’ll listen to Holmes talk about violins for hours BECAUSE HE WANTS TO. And that warms my heart.

I think a lot about how all versions of Watson don’t see themselves as anything special, meanwhile all versions Sherlock Holmes are looking at them like “This is the most wonderful human being who ever lived and the only person I want to spend all my time with for the rest of my life.”

Seeing fanart of a character being drawn as skinny when they're not supposed to be SKINNY is the most enraging thing ever, especially when said character was only skinny because of a bad period of their life and yes I am talking about my guy Watson who did not suffer during the war and come back to be REHABILLITATED and become HEALTHY by gaining weight he SHOULD NOT have lost just to be drawn looking extra skinny when, in fact, beefcake Watson is the best and healthiest and happiest version of Watson. Holmes and Mrs Hudson would have been going out of their way to make sure that this poor traumatised doctor was being fed, please don't dismiss their good work.
