I give William Baring-Gould a LOT of shit (his name is mentioned and I immediately generate a thousand new insults) but nothing boils my blood more than when he calls him 'Sherlock'. No, don't invoke his name like that, despite what you say, you don't know the man and he doesn't know you.
Also, WILLIAM, he's called Holmes, not fucking William.
Have some respect- it's MR Holmes to you.
I find it hard to call Holmes and Watson by their first names because. Like. They aren’t my friends. They’re my strange little creatures that I observe in their little environment with a magnifying glass.

Also I found this picture of Watson (Edward Hardwicke) holding a gun like that with that look on his face and it is one of the most perfect Doctor Watson images ever produced.
Tumblr media
He looks like Sherlock Holmes either asked to borrow the gun, or just handed it to him and hasn't acknowledged that it's a loaded gun.

I had to think about the void left by Watson when I read A Scandal in Bohemia... He writes that he hasn't seen Holmes in a while bc of "his complete happiness" after getting married. Honestly, guys, I'm pretty sure it was all pretending on his side. He married Mary to shield himself from the feelings he had for Holmes, to try to tell himself that he was not in love with him.
And he ended up breaking two hearts that way...
Do you ever think of Holmes alone at Baker Street after Watson's marriage and. And. And Watson's things are gone. Watson is gone, and there is just this aching gap around Holmes in the flat. The dust has not yet covered the space on the shelf where Watson's books used to be. Half of Holmes's home is gone, and he cannot even run his finger along the edge of the pain because there will only be one plate on the breakfast table tomorrow (and tomorrow and tomorrow), but you can't cut yourself on empty space.

It is the 1920s, and in a sleepy Sussex village, beekeeper and former world's greatest detective Sherlock Holmes (James Quinn, Apostasy), is trying to arrange a pleasant clifftop picnic for his lifelong companion Dr Watson (Andrew James Spooner, Muppets Most Wanted). The only problem is that a series of mysteries keep getting in the way!
Tumblr media
Features
Explore a seaside town It’s the day of the village fete, a suspicious new neighbour has taken a lease on  a long-abandoned cottage and something strange is happening down on the  beach…
Interrogate and befriend a fully professionally voice-acted cast of eccentric characters including a clown with a tragic past (Felix Trench, Wooden Overcoats), the local leader of the women's institute (Alison Skilbeck, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, (yes that one)) budding young naturalist (Alice Osmanski, Sanditon), a wannabe showman (Layla Katib, Victoriocity) and a prickly police officer. And lots more. I love this cast to bits.
Make deductions and decisions. Puzzles have multiple solutions, some of which may please your neighbours more than others.  What path will you choose? Who will you enlist to help you?
Phone for help of you get stuck! Your older brother Mycroft (Richard Rycroft, Game of Thrones) is always ready to act as your consultant, just give him a call at his club if you need a hint.
A  relaxing bespoke soundtrack by @sandygarnelle

UGH AND THE WAY HE KEEPS REACHING OUT TO MAKE SURE THAT HOLMES IS REALLY THERE 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
do you think it was weird for Watson to be having an adventure and holding hands with his best friend (who he’d thought died years ago and who reappeared that afternoon) and to look at up their old apartment and see his best friend ALSO sitting in the window. Do you think that on top of having to accept that Holmes was capable of resurrection he also briefly worried that he could duplicate himself

I drew these a while ago... I think both of these books have similar appeal to me in that they are both about friends having fun together :) (mind the murders etc. but...) Just two best friends hanging out :))

I think a lot about how all versions of Watson don’t see themselves as anything special, meanwhile all versions Sherlock Holmes are looking at them like “This is the most wonderful human being who ever lived and the only person I want to spend all my time with for the rest of my life.”

Obsessed with the headcanon that Sherlock Holmes only very rarely or even never says "I love you".* But Watson knows him, and he knows. It does not matter. He does not need to say it.
Bonus points if Watson does say it and it's just completely okay that Holmes can't say it back. He has his ways to show it, and Watson trusts him. I just don't think that Holmes - even at the best of times and comfortable in/with a relationship - would/could be very vocal about his feelings.
*This goes for both romantic and platonic interpretations of their relationship.

Needs more notes
The sign of four starts with Holmes injecting cocaine, feeding his addiction and upsetting Watson, who both knows the consequences better than most, but has recently had a brother who died from addiction.
He proceeds to ridicule and insult him about his writing, and then, while not maliciously, very callously talks about Watson’s recent loss.
There are a few things to take note of here:
Holmes and Watson had been living together for some time, and Holmes is no longer the perfect roommate he tried to be.
He’s lashing out at Watson because he’s under-stimulated, and over the years I’m sure the drugs no longer give him the same high.
It shows us an almost cruel side to his nature that wasn’t as prominent in the first book.
I wonder if Holmes just isn’t used to having friends, and therefore boundaries are difficult to navigate.
But this changes when Mary Morstan enters the picture.
I firmly believe that Watson’s instant attachment to her is partially because he’s hurting, and feeling unappreciated. And Holmes seems to recognise this, because his first instinct is to warn him about the dangers of women and falling in love. When that clearly doesn’t work, he switches tactics.
Throughout the rest of the book, Holmes is far more amiable, even kind to Watson. He includes him in investigating whenever he can, praises him, plays him lullabies on the violin…
But by the end he’s realized that it won’t work, and that Watson will marry and leave him anyway.
So he turns back to the cocaine bottle.
And that’s how the story ends.
WHAT THE FUCK WHY IS THIS SO SAD?????
