There are good things in the world still

Today, I set a group of eggs to hatch in about 2 weeks. I am looking forward to more baby birds already.

Today, I received control of a website for an organization that I've been attending events for for the last 20 years, and I am looking forward to helping them improve after their quality went downhill because an asshole took over its presidency. I have hope!

Today I thawed the first bowl of chili from the big batch I made, and I was afraid it would not freeze/thaw with an acceptable texture, but it was just as delicious as the day I made the batch originally!

Today, I lost a button quail. Like it didn't die, it just flew out of the open cage and I had no idea where it went. After 20 minutes of searching, I looked up and saw him peeking over the ledge Bug loves to jump to. Watching me. Spying. He was recaptured successfully, and is fine!

i wonder at what point Erik realized this would’ve been the last time he would ever see Charles again

now i need an au where the xmen didn’t manage to save Charles in time or they just don’t show up for some reason

Erik seeing Charles’s face on Apocalypse with likely some kind of remnants of his voice

Erik realizing he’s not only lost his wife and daughter, but also the last person who has been able to see the good in him and love him for who he truly is.

he can’t even kill Apocalypse for this, he keeps coming back 😾 stupid ass cockroach

i wonder how much he would regret accepting that helmet, once again betraying Charles’s trust and now never being able to gain it back

either Erik leaves the horsemen (maybe bringing some of them with him) and rallies the xmen to go kill Apocalypse or out of such anger and grief and regret he does end up destroying the world and he has to live with the fact that everything he loves will be destroyed

i don’t think he would even have any free will anymore since Apocalypse has Charles’s telepathy

or maybe he still has the helmet who knows

but anyway Erik is not doing good 🙁

There's something about reading really great writing that's so relaxing. You can just sit back and let the words wash over you, knowing that you can trust the writer.

#random thought of the day #books #part of the reason i'm not getting writing done today was because i spent most of my free time reading from books i've let sit for too long #i haven't been able to sink into good fiction for a while #so elizabeth goudge felt like a spiritual experience #cleansing and uplifting #it always takes me a while to get into her books #there's a learning curve of a couple of chapters to adjust to the style #but once i break through it's bliss #it becomes easy as breathing #there's nothing quite like what she does #i love books that understand that goodness isn't boring or trite #you don't need to have 'darkness' and 'grit' to be complex #like one bit that took my breath away was the talk about sallie and david's marriage struggles #they're both good people who love each other #but they also have their differences because they're human and that causes struggles #not marriage-breaking struggles just nuanced life struggles #and i'm not sure i've seen something like that in a book before #it's a good marriage they married the right people but that doesn't mean life is perfect #goudge uderstands that marriage isn't happily ever after--heaven is #and a good marriage is two people partnering up to help each other reach that goal #it's so much more adult than any 'complex adult' work i've seen
