Her glowing powder blue eyes stare directly at your smaller form, as you walked towards her palm as you two were now face to face. “What you’re going to plead for your pathetic life to be spared, if so how presumptuous of you…” You swallowed your fear back as you ignored Captain Caviar Cookie and Candy Diver Cookie’s pleas for you to stop what you were doing.

“No, no… I won’t do that, instead I’d like to propose something…” Her eyes light up with intrigue as a menacing smile makes its way onto her lips. “Go on, amuse me…”

“I’d like to make a promise of sorts, you seem…isolated and perhaps you’d prefer it that way. Though I’d like to keep you company, in return I’ll order that no one be allowed to attack you or your home.” Your hands were clammy as you looked up and offered her your hand.

“So-Sound like a deal? Will you let them go?” She pondered and a flash of a softened gaze. “You… Would be willing to stay away from all who cherish you…” Captain Caviar Cookie was trying to pull you away from a binding promise. But you’ve made your stance clear. This way is the only option to keep your friends and people safe. “Yes, you have my word…” She grins and it seems to convince her. “Done. Now bid your friends farewell, if you even dare break this promise. Both you and your people will pay for your crimes…” She threatened as you sank to your knees as Captain Caviar Cookie hugged you tightly, his warmth engulfing your fear-ridden state.

Candy Diver Cookie joins the hug as they both promise to help you escape, you interjected. “No stop, that won’t help either of us. Just tell Oyster Cookie what happened and fill her in on my orders. You may be strong, but please let me do this…” His eyes stare back at you as he sighs knowing you’re not backing down. “Alright, I’ll let her know, just promise us that you’ll be safe.” You nodded as you bid them farewell, watching their submarine disappear into the inky depths.

You turn around to face her as she shrinks down to your size as you sink down, Black Pearl Cookie swims to your aid. Pulling a shimmery scale from her tail and pressing it against your lips. “Swallowing this will allow you to swim underwater, it’d be a shame to let your dough get soggy.” Black Pearl Cookie informed you, opening your mouth and swallowing the scale.

“You swallowed WHAT?!” Rookie Cookie sprung up with shock and awe. “You can turn into a mermaid?! Oh what’s that like??” You laughed at Rookie Cookie’s oncoming questions. “Alright kiddo, calm down.” An infectious smile reached your lips as you continued on with your story.

“I’m curious, how come you’re here now?” Rookie Cookie asked as you answered. “She loosened the reins a bit, albeit it took a bit of patience, but long story short I’m allowed to be on land for about six months. The other six months I’m at the sea with her.”

“Does it get lonely?” You shook your head at their question. “At first yes, but after spending time with and away from her. I don’t feel alone with her, if anything I feel a bit lonely without her.” Rookie Cookie nods as they try to comprehend your words.

“Maybe someday… One day, we can walk on land together, but I highly doubt that. But it doesn't hurt to dream about it.” You realized you were getting sidetracked and decided to return to your tale.

“Now where was I..? Oh yeah, let’s continue!” Rookie Cookie sat down as you cleared your throat.

The first couple weeks with her were a bit awkward, as she usually was relaxing. You imagined her being somewhat of an adrenaline junkie. But that was far from that, Black Pearl Cookie often took you with her to explore the sunken ships. Asking you if you’re familiar enough with what these ships held and their origins.

Soon a new face appears before the two of you, a bubbly shark mermaid. They introduced themself as Shark Sorbet Cookie and had a wish they wanted granted. “Such a lively kid…” You had to wonder if Black Pearl Cookie was capable of other things.

Learning just enough to understand her on a surface level, but not enough to truly grasp who she is underneath her wrathful and sadistic persona.

“This feeling… I thought I was never going to feel this way ever again…” Her clawed hand is placed over where her heart should be. She soon hears her name. As she sees you swimming excitedly to her. “Black Pearl Cookie!! Close your eyes!”

She raises a brow at you. “How come?” Her eyes see that you’ve got something behind your back. Your smile was oddly infectious, it was bright and warm like the sun.

Black Pearl Cookie couldn’t help, but be attracted to that sweet warmth. You’ve made her feel like she was everything. Even when she’d set up walls to impede your progress and stop herself from these feelings. You somehow melted them away.

Another year, another village garden competition to win. It's a bit of a tradition for you now. Every summer, the last Saturday in June, the village mayor, priest, and the chair of the local rotary club would do the tour of the village and rate all 40-something cottages on their gardens. You tended to win. From your immaculate rose bushes, to your lush gardenias, to the rows of tulips flanking your garden path, there simply wasn't anyone who could beat you. 

Granted, you're a nature-witch, which does come with advantages even if you have to budget for mouse bones. Most of the people here would laugh at you if you told them, so you never did, and you find yourself attributing your perennial prowess to a green thumb and a closely-guarded fertiliser recipe. Which was, you suppose, half right.

This year was different. You knew there was a new arrival in the village, news gets around in such small communities, especially ones with an average age of 65 and about two television sets per square mile. You made sure to scout the new house the morning of the contest, see what you're up against.

Your jaw dropped. Trellises of flowers and hybrids you'd never even read about. Plants you knew for a fact would fight to the death growing happily next to one another. There was even mint. Mint! Growing in the ground! And behaving itself to boot! There's only so much as can be done with knowhow and horticulture. Something is at play here.

You returned home and set to work sprucing your flower beds up. It'd take a miracle to beat that newcomer, but you were known for those. In an hour your roses were all blooming. Your tulips had formed ranks and stood to attention. Not a twig, not a leaf, not a single blade of grass was out of place. You'd broken out the good newt entrails to do this, you weren't so easily beaten.

The judges approached. Three old retirees, mopping their brows and fanning themselves with their clipboards. You made some smalltalk as they stood on your path, scrutinising your hard work and taking notes. You snuck a peak at the pieces of paper on the boards. You could only ever read the Reverend Green's handwriting, and it did look good for you, but they haven't been to the other cottage yet. 

When they left, you tagged along, under the guise of a pleasant stroll and still pleasantly chatting. Under the surface, your mind was racing. Even your teachers would have had a hard time pulling off what you saw, and both Grandmother Oak and Auntie Juniper would have scorned at such a frivolous use of magic. Even as it was they always called you vain for your garden, and at least most of yours is done with trowel and rake, rather than grimoire.

You turned the corner, discussing the local bus routes with the mayor, and saw her. That was how she did it. 

She stood in a sundress. Pale face and fair hair gleaming in the afternoon sun. You saw as she let you into her garden she was barefoot, as you expected, glimmering green eyes meeting yours as she smiled a smile as old as the hills, maybe older.

She was a dryad. No doubt about it. You're surprised you hadn't realised sooner. 

Your gaze faltered and you distracted yourself looking at her flowerbeds, trying desperately to avoid being recognised by her. 

You knew you already had been 

You made your excuses and hurried to the village square. A cup of tea and some deep breathing later, you were ready.

The three men took their position on the steps of the village hall, before making their proclamation.

Third place was Mrs. Simons.

Second place, you, as predicted 

First place: Acacia Rosewood. 

You don't think you've heard a more obvious false name in a while, and your teacher was calling herself Grandmother Oak.

"I'm here" came a voice from behind you. Warm and sweet, ancient and powerful. "I called in a favour from the winds so we'll have good weather for the night. Unless you've upset uncle Zeus?" She laughed 

"No, but he might get jealous of the..." You read the side of the bottle in your basket "2023 merlot and the supermarket brand olive oil" it was your turn to laugh now

Acacia took the basket off you and took your hand in hers, leading you around the back of her cottage.

The garden here was no less spectacular, flowers of all colours, manicured shrubs, climbing vines on trellises, in the centre stood a willow tree, fronds hanging down majestically.

Well, the current set of polls was chosen per popular vote! The idea is to find out how frequently people encounter Shiny pokemon, intentionally or unintentionally. With the information we get out of the polls, we can loosely infer how desired some shiny pokemon are and compare it to what shiny pokemon people actually have acquired.

Does it matter where I got the shiny pokemon?

We accept shiny pokemon from any source! Main game, side game, fan game, mods or cheats. If it has the shiny Pokemon as presented and a ‘luck’ factor at base, I’d say it counts.

What about how? I chained/soft reset/matsuda method bred/etc. for it, but I don't see the option?

Well, the 'how' is less important in this instance. This decision was made mostly because of how diverse shiny hunting is, even if we stuck with just the mainline pokemon games! If we listed every method, it would wind up changing the focus from ‘intent to find’ to ‘preference of hunt.’ We may do a follow up to this where we specifically focus on how people hunt, but for now, the fact you specifically looked for it is more important to us than how you searched for it.

What if I found a shiny for a pokemon while actively searching for a different pokemon?

Then it sounds like you found it by chance! Even if you did something to increase your shiny chances, it wasn't the one you were aiming for! So it would be by chance.

Actually, how do I define 'intent'?

That's pretty hard to answer! It varies case by case, and you're free to send either an ask or direct message and I'll be happy to offer suggestions or make an argument for one side or another. At the end of the day, however, you are going to know better than me what your goals were. Vote how you feel best fits your situation; I'll have full belief in your decision. ^^

I no longer have the shiny, how should I vote?

There's a couple of different answers for this one! If you simply evolved the shiny, how you met them would carry from what stage you met them. A Butterfree you caught as a Metapod would have the same answer for both of them, but you could not say the same for Caterpie (unless you have a separate one). If you lost them through a deleted or lost save file, then they're still with you in spirit! Feel free to vote as though you still have them. If you traded them away, the suggested option is to vote based on what you traded for. If you traded for a different shiny, that new shiny will have a specific vote. If you wonder/surprise traded or gifted the shiny to someone else, you can vote for one of the 'no' options that best fits your situation.

Where did you get the pictures for the polls?

I list and link my sources on this post! I do resize all the pictures and edit sprites from gen 1-4 to be non-looping if they're animated. I make minor edits here and there for better viewing as well, but try to keep it as close to game-accurate as possible.

Why do the non-looping gifs?

The mainline games for gen 1-4 did not have looping animations, so the non-looping gif is meant to imitate an encounter in those games. Also, it felt like an interesting way to make the blog a little more unique and cool!

Why aren't all the photos animated?

They don't have a gif, yet! I aim to use the gifs when available, or sometimes make them myself, but there's not always time to do so before the poll is posted or is not readily available.

a few things i've been doing and that you should do to help with feelings of anxiety/doom:

1) first, literally, disable notifications from news outlets apps, and stop watching live 24/7 tv news. like. at least, for me, it helps, because this shit triggers so much anxiety in me, and makes me spiral; i much prefer looking up the news from my own volition. even if it is also anxiety-inducing, it is not as overwhelming and i feel like i have some control/can process information better

2) spend time with your loved ones irl. hug them, talk about what you're feeling if this can help, or do an activity together that can distract you! back in april 2022, between the two rounds of the french election, i was having a full mental breakdown, and my mum took me on a day out, visiting local villages and just. getting out of the house and visiting other place and breathing fresh air helped a lot.

3) kind of a followup to 2) but, go on a walk ! pace around, breathe the outside air—i cannot stress it enough, it helps with calming down racing thoughts, at least for me :)

4) if you are having difficulty to eat/have no appetite, please, eat a little something anyway; having an empty stomach does not help. go for something easy to prepare and/or a safe food. i just had a banana and a bowl of cereal for lunch—not the most conventional lunch, i know, but at least, i ate something even though i wasn't feeling hungry and nothing motivated me to eat :')

5) if you are feeling intrusive thoughts, feeling like you are responsible for the outcome of this election, and feeling guilty for not doing enough — please, please, don't guilt-trip yourself. you did what you could. this is something way bigger than us, an accumulation of many things, including structural racism, inequalities in access to voting, the gradual rise of fascism, and the system being deeply flawed, all the harmful shit that stayed from the orange man's first term and which long-term consequences built up to this.

6) please, remember that your vote wasn't worthless. i promise. you did the right thing by getting out of your house, going to the polling station, waiting in line for hours to make your voice heard, and i am deeply thankful you did it. genuinely. and remember that this election was going to be close. i'm not saying that there isn't criticism to be made about people who refused to vote, or voted third party — they have a huge responsibility —, but you, the average person worried about the democracy, who showed up and voted blue? i do not want you to feel like your vote was useless and give up. please.

7) remember that very bad things have happened in the past too, yet we're still here. hang on this fact. we're alive, and we're here.

8) repeat of 2 but: you should hug your loved ones. and i am sending you hugs, too—especially if you're from a vulnerable demographic (a racial minority, LGBTQ+, etc.) 🫂 you are not alone!

Oh okay, thank you for clarifying! I have seen quite a few polls on tumblr and on ATLA’s youtube page going hard Kataang over Zutara, that’s why I was asking. I think the best example is the one made by @hundredyearavatar here on Tumblr. Someone had a very interesting take in the comments though, saying that when the show aired the kids liked Kataang better, but the teens with online access preferred Zutara. Now, those kids grew up and everyone is on the internet, so this is why Kataang is more popular nowadays. It’s relatively hard to find a poll online where Zutara is far ahead of Kataang, I’ve seen most either at 50/50 or with a clear Kataang preference. If you judge by fan art and fanfics however, yea, there’s way more zutara stuff out there, but again, that tends to happen with non-canon ships. Ships that could have been tend to get more fan attention and stand out for people not familiar with the show, I agree with that, but I’m not sure if you downright were to ask people they’d mostly say Zutara is their favourite over Kataang. Does that make sense?

Polls are not an accurate reading of how an entire fandom feels, it's just impossible to make everyone not only see it, but also vote it (especially in polls that only have Kataang OR Zutara as an option, without "both" or "neither" as that excludes some nuance).

Polls are, at most, a way to tell in which corner of the fandom you found yourself in. If I, an anti-zutara blog, whose posts tend to be seen/shared almost exclusively by people who have some issue with the ship/shippers, were to make a poll asking people if they liked Zutara the winning answer would obviously be " HELL NO!" If a zutara blog, whose posts are seen/shared mostly by zutara fans, asks the exact same question the winning answer will obviously be "HELL YES!"

The official Nickelodeon accounts tend to have pro-canon results because they (mostly) post about canon content. People who wouldn't change that much about ATLA are their target audience, aka the ones voting. You'll find the zutara fandom in spaces like change.org, making petitions to make the ship happen in the Netflix version.

That being said, I don't think think it's fair to dismiss Zutara's popularity in places like AO3 or FF.NET (or especially in pre-internet era fandom) as being a natural consequence of it being "the non-canon option." There are tons of fandoms where the canon pairings are highly popular and have tons of fan works, even if the story shows us all the "main" things that happen in a romance (first meeting, moment they realize/admit their feelings, first kiss, first time, wedding, having kids, etc). Not to mention, Zutara is not the only non-canon ship in Avatar, so it having been THE most popular for over a decade, and still being super popular today, to the point that it is one of the things even people who never watched Avatar know about, cannot simply be explained away with "people gonna write what the show didn't give them."

I also don't think "Kataang kids got internet now" explains why it became more popular/zutara isn't treated as untouchable anymore. The internet wasn't as wide-spread in the mid 2000s but it did exist, and both ships had fans who were kids, teens and adults. I think this change happened because of three things:

1 - People change their minds sometimes, especially if they watch the same stuff over and over through the years.

2 - The zutara fandom got way too smug about being popular and way too bitter about not being canon, to the point of harrassing others over it, and thus people that were previously indifferent to the ship (or actually liked it, but weren't die-hard stans) grew to dislike it. I used to not care for either Kataang or Zutara, but seeing one fandom be mostly reasonable in their arguments in favor of their favorite pairing while the other was super entitled made me look at both differently.

3 - A LOT of the people in the fandom right now weren't fans back when it first aired (some having not even been ALIVE), but had already heard about Zutara: and watched the show expecting it to be an actual romantic possibility that was taken seriously and got lots of screentime, but simply ended up not being canon at the very last second due to executive meddling. Instead they saw Kataang being set up from the start, Maiko being set up since season two, both having big roles in the story... while Zutara had a few fanservice-y moments. They went in expecting a love triangle in which they'd have to decide if "Katara made the right choice" only to discover she never even CONSIDERED dating Zuko - who also never thought of her like that either. It was a pure "THAT'S IT? IT WAS A PURE FANON THING? THAT'S ALL THERE WAS TO IT?" Expectation is the mother of disappointment.

Diff anon, but my initial reaction to him was more of a "okay, he's probably gonna be boring but it's still vastly preferable to a wannabe dictator". He managed to demonstrate that he was more than that, what with frankly doing his damnedest to right this ship into something after the colossal evils of his predecessor, and also put some serious holes and cracks in the arguments of his critics and detractors (especially as the latter started demonstrating their own serious myopia and flaws with their downright abominable behavior). That said, he's more of a mixed bag on the foreign policy front, as there's a number of points where I think he didn't push as hard as he could have in regards to Ukrainian aid (because honestly Russia getting its ass kicked and forced to give up would have really helped us all out in the long term, even if it didn't stop our own idiots from swallowing the lies and voting back Hair Fuhrer), and the whole situation with Israel and Palestine was, quite frankly, a giant clusterfuck that was more the fault of the two leading governments of those nations intentionally making things worse for their own agendas, mixed with copius amounts of people losing their fucking marbles and becoming open antisemites that I'd have hoped we would have grown past than necessarily anything Biden did wrong.

But as a whole, he did a damn hell lot better than people gave him credit for, and sadly was just held back (and his many warnings ignored) constantly by a perpetually dishonest and backstabbing media, apathetic and ignorant voters who unfortunately just weren't paying any attention because they didn't understand anything other than "borger slightly too expensive", and a multitude of assholes right and left who constantly swallowed radical-sounding propaganda without digging any deeper and treated Biden like he was the greatest villain of all time while blithely ignoring the actual villains in the room, and royally fucked over his intended successor in the process.

I honestly cannot ever forgive the media and the idiots who got us to this point in the first place, and if we make it out of here in some kind of pieces, this man honestly deserves the mother of all apologies and a fairer evaluation, instead of the blind and self-serving demonization he actually got.

Yeah I think he similarly exceeded my expectations but I will say that I didn't really have expectations about whether he would be boring or better because by 2020 the only thing I cared about was beating Trump. I filled out a poll at some point during that election and when I was asked what issue was most important to me I chose other and wrote in "the removal of Donald Trump." I approached the 2020 primary thinking exclusively about which candidate I thought was best equipped to win the general election and I was (and remain) pissed off that so many Democrats decided to run, most of them with no serious chance of winning, because I felt it was important for the party to be united and to unite quickly so we could begin the campaign against Trump as soon as possible. Once Biden was elected and I was able to pay attention to other things again, I was pleasantly surprised by a lot of choices made by the Biden-Harris administration, which is not to say I loved all of them. Foreign policy is definitely a weak point, but it's also the area I know the least about (I find the moral dilemmas so frustrating I deliberately chose to focus on domestic policy when I was doing my degree, lmao) and also an area where there just are no good alternatives in American politics.

I share your anger. I do believe Biden, along with Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris, will be vindicated by history. But that's cold comfort to those of us living through it.

How did the polls get worse from 2016 to 2020, with everyone watching? In the aftermath of Trump’s surprise 2016 victory, the public-opinion-research industry concluded that the problem was educational polarization. If pollsters had made a point of including enough white people without college degrees in their samples, they wouldn’t have underestimated Trump so badly. During the 2020 cycle, they focused on correcting that mistake. It didn’t work. Even though polls in 2020 included more white non-college-educated voters, they turned out to be disproportionately the white non-college-educated voters who preferred Biden. The new consensus is that Republican voters are less likely to respond to polls in the first place, even controlling for education level. so often in fiction, faceless evil is represented by a bald person. no hair, no eyebrows = no dimension, just a soulless robot or criminal with no story of their own.

jjk doesn't have any of that. the baldest person is Juzo, who still had a lot of defining (even iconic and admirable) traits and I love him so much.

Anyway!! after reading some posts about the bald polls, it rly... validated the bitterness I felt while skipping over them. what if I'm bald AND have an opinion?

it feels like they don't think bald people can read, can see the polls, can have a soul. I'm not condemning anyone who has posted or voted or shared these - I don't consider it a serious issue, but I'm going to ramble a bit about baldness (and feel free to rb w your own bald thoughts) after realizing that there are irl implications.

being bald is... such a wide spectrum of choice, necessity and security. there are a lot of reasons for it.

whether it's for medical, spiritual, mental, financial, sensory etc. reasons...

I guess mine have always been a combination.

the first time I was bald was nearly 10 years ago. it was by choice then, to avoid the embarrassment of hat hair after walking to school. I was Very insecure about the way it looked. specifically, like that one star wars character w the tall bald head (which is bc I was in the habit of holding my head down, genuinely just holding my head higher would have changed appearance greatly but I had no idea then). I laughed about it, sent my friend a picture of us side by side, and decided I could never shave my head again. my head shape was weird. it was exposed and ugly and I was not allowed to wear hats in school.

my neighbor immediately thought that I had cancer. if I did, then I would not want anyone to know that at a glance. I'd want privacy. I didn't want anyone to feel so exposed like that, I wanted baldness to be normalized and even fashionable.

I guess the next time I shaved my head was for financial reasons. it's cheaper to spend $10 on a clearance shaving item than to buy hair care products. I'd spend years trying to grow it back but wearing hats 24/7, which kills hair. so I'd have to shave it again. eventually was able to grow some back. it was probably falling out from stress, I kept getting cortisol rashes etc around then.

the next time I shaved my head was, I guess for spiritual or mental health reasons. I felt secure that way, I liked it, I dressed in ways that felt true to myself. I learned that dressing in any way perceived as "femme" makes old men feral online and irl when you are bald.

I learned that walking outside dressed "masc" made me perceived as suspicious. Just for existing in public. it was weird, more severe than the looks of white women when i walk into their place of business dressed "alternative" or they can't discern my gender at a glance (I have a lot of privilege here, I know poc have to deal w this on another level all the time and if anyone wants to add to this, pls go for it).

since covid, I've found it impossible to decently grow hair. it takes 10x longer for me than average anyway, and has 99% been a means of insecurity or shame or coercive control. I'll always be missing out on the scene kid hair, but at this point I do love and prefer being bald.

I do feel insecure about it sometimes though. I feel weird knowing that I have the traits to do a thukuna cosplay. I don't have the heart to bc that would bring out my biggest lifelong insecurities.

recently come to realize that it's an effect of chronic illness for having hair to be rly painful. like, 2 weeks of growth is all you can manage before it's a sensory hell. I wonder what it would be like to not be this way.

the best feeling in the world is a soft bald head, the breeze against it, etc. but it can also get rly cold or very easily burn in the sun (giant headache for days) and if you have to wear a hair net, that is the itchiest thing ever.

it means that if I sit in a patch of sunlight, my head becomes like a lighthouse in the break room.

I began removing my eyebrows years before shaving my head (I used to pull them out. sometimes they'd grow back). by now I've accepted that I just cannot feel like myself with them. every time I remove eyebrows, it's like I recognize my reflection again.

depending on the setting, people are still not used to it. no one who knows me reacts at all at this point, but if I stream online without eyebrows, it's like half the comments. where are they, what happened to your eyebrows, why didn't you draw them on. at this point I'm resorting to "eyebrows are stupid and I don't respect them" or some other borderline brainrot reply.

my streams seem to be a lot more popular when I have both hair (fake) and eyebrows (even if they're just some shape drawn on). then we can talk about other relevant topics. idgi.

Anyway!! being bald has brought a lot of humorous opportunities. it means taking off a wig with cosplay makeup still on and cracking up at my reflection. there are so many jokes that I can make, but the joke is never the baldness itself. it isn't "haha! this person is bald so their personhood is somehow revoked". it's the context, it's the autonomy.

it also means that people don't know how to react to you or what jokes they can make (understandable). I was sad to find out that my work friends had been making jokes for months behind my back. like, if they'd see me outside or anything they'd point and say "bald!" and the way they said it was so funny (and at this point I was very secure in my baldness). we were all very autistic and they'd loudly stim, so this was rly chill and I just wish I'd been included. I also hope I wasn't reflecting sunlight in the break room for a year without realizing it.

it's also weird to navigate though, because why did I get insecure when my best friend said that I reminded them of a star trek character? but when a stranger said "I mean this in the best way possible, you remind me of powder" (idk anything about that movie but I looked it up and it was so funny I tried to dress more like that guy immediately. I guess the way we dressed and makeup matched pretty well there, maybe that was the difference - especially since my head was covered when they said it).

in the end, I can't hold this against anyone because my insecurities are my own to deal with, and they're right, we do look alike.

and there are a lot of people who choose to not have hair, who love it and feel true to themselves. but there are also a lot of us who haven't reached that point, so I guess it's a case by case thing.

ultimately it's not that serious (I mean, there's a lot of more serious issues, this feels rly trivial to write out but i have a lot of privilege so idek).

- first and foremost: I have absolutely no idea what order someone would get ready in with all these outfit components, so if you’re sitting here like “why is her makeup done when she has to pull a shirt over her head?” or something like that: you’re probably correct but my getting ready process is always chaos and there aren’t exactly articles on this sort of thing

- along with that: her straightening her hair is probably not accurate to how hair works but again I’ve got v little experience to pull from and trying to find a proper reference was a pain in the ass

yes her bra is fully rendered and then got covered up by her arm. I'm still mad that I did that to myself but I like the pose too much to change it so oh well

- (onto actual historical stuff!!)

- her hair is being straightened here despite straight not being in style during this era for several reasons:

1. I based her hair (and a lot of her style, as per part 1) on Rhoda Dakar of the band The Bodysnatchers, which was an all-female band that was part of the ska revival in the late 70s/early 80s. Rhoda Dakar in particular is a British artist (who’s still making music!) with an English mother and Jamaican father—so not only was she one of the only women of color I could find as part of this subgenre/in ths era/with plenty of photo references, but considering Jayden Revri is Jamaican and English (alongside Indian) himself I thought it was fitting! Her Bodysnatchers look is also much more femme leaning than the rest of the band, as well as her hair styled in a way that suggests straightening, so I carried that over to Charlotte here as well.

2. On a related note, there is a clear historical and modern difference in hairstyles worn/made popular/deemed fashionable by non-white versus white individuals and I thought it only appropriate to acknowledge that in my design of her. I even went so far as to research how her mom’s hair may have been styled since I assume that’s who would’ve been teaching her how to care for her hair in the first place. With that, I looked at popular Indian hair trends from the 60s (figuring that’s when Charlotte’s mom could’ve still been in India and following those trends) which also involved a preference for straight/wavy hair, with soft fringe made popular by Sadhana and the styles ranging from long and luscious to styled up into a very 60s beehive. Charlotte could easily also rock a beehive, especially since the 60s revival was a part of the ska revival movement and Dakar herself styled her hair as such, but I figured Charlotte is a little too much of a rebellious teenager to go for a look she’s seen her mom wear!

- her makeup is based off of the different members of The Bodysnatchers as well as other punk/ska fans at the time. The look usually required more blush that what I gave her here, but I wanted to make sure the eyes were the feature (since Charles wears eyeliner himself) and then the lips being any less just looked weird to me. Also, Dakar doesn't seem to wear the same heavy blush that the other members do, which could be a stylistic choice but could also be the potential lack of blush shades that would work well on her skin tone, so I went that route for Charlotte here

- her underwear is all based off of meticulous searching of historical advertisements, though I will admit the sources are (presumably) American since I couldn't find British equivalents (I'm hoping the styles were similar enough...) in particular:

1. Her bra is based off of: Playtex’s New Made for Me, Playtex’s Right For Me, and Playtex’s Thank Goodness It Fits (which are seriously the names of these as per the ads—how creative /s)

2. Her panties (or pants or underwear or whatever term you want to use) are based off of: Sears Best’s Nylon tricot panties, Sears Very Impressive Panties Nylon panties, and JCPenny’s eiderlon fashion panties

3. (In the below variations) Her pantyhose are theoretically based on L’eggs and Spirit by Stevens’s Slim & Slender pantyhose. But, honestly, they’re mostly based on my own experience wearing hose bc almost none of the ads showed how the gusset of the pantyhose actually looked so I needed to fill in the gaps (one of the many reasons I’m still unhappy with them—plus the wrinkles would not look right no matter what I did !!)

4. Her socks are called slouch socks! I don’t have a specific brand for them but the style was all the rage in the 80s-90s (and I want to own some so bad ngl)

- the hair straightener is just a blob based on the reference photo since trying to research historical hair tools was beyond me at the time apparently, but the style of outlet/plug is accurate to Britain in 1989 so there’s that at least (I have no idea why my brain works like this)

- since I talked about it in the poll I feel like I should address it here: technically having a bush was well out of fashion by 1989 due to the grooming boom and new types of hair removal popular throughout the 80s and 90s. However, she’s wearing multiple layers over it and is technically a teenager (in an abusive household and a catholic all-girls school, at that) so I kept going back and forth on it. It won the poll so it’s in the main post, but you’ll see in the below variations that I really went back and forth on it. that being said I do think it’s interesting given her nylon pants being semi-sheer besides at the gusset, so I’m not mad at it. plus I figured she was definitely shaving her legs/underarms, so maybe that balances it out ?

Five More Death Battle Match-Ups I'd like to see

So, the Death Battle Independent Era has been happening along, and frankly, I think it's been pretty good so far. Bowser vs Eggman and Ghost Rider vs Spawn are already shooting up my top 10 (Bowser vs Eggman is already my new favourite Death Battle), and even ones that I haven't been too hot about are still not bad, they're like a Stitch vs Rocket Raccoon at worst.

And I also had some fun writing about Match-Ups I'd really like to see, and try to justify my... admittedly weird taste in Match-Ups. I have found that my preference leans more towards obscurer characters and less likely match-ups. Don't get me wrong, I have a few MUs that don't fall under those descriptions, but looking at my list, there are a lot more Cybersix vs Jack's than Katara vs lapis Lazuli's.

Really, I'm doing this to see if anyone else is interested in some of my most wanted MUs, though admittedly this selection is probably more plausible than my first list was. Well, without further ado, five more Death Battle MUs I'd like to see.

#5. Lena vs Hunter (Owl House vs DuckTales 2017)

So... a while back, a long while back, I did a series of Polls called "Disney Duels", where I pit two Disney characters together and let people vote on who would win a fight. I had a lot of fun doing it, and seeing a lot of the reactions, especially for Season 2 Round 10; Lena vs Hunter; Created for Evil, Made for Good.

This was the most voted on Match-up for Disney Duels, at 373 votes, and I can see why, this was admittedly one of the better match-ups of Disney Duels, and Tumblr is absolutely crazy for Owl House and DuckTales 2017, and all the votes and reactions got me thinking, this would make a really good episode of Death Battle. Like we're probably gonna get Anne vs Luz or Luz vs Akko first, but keep this one in mind, it would be pretty awesome.

#4. Ruby Rose vs Tucker (RWBY vs Red vs Blue)

Admittedly, this one is kind of... strange, I'm sure there are better RWBY vs Red vs Blue Match-Ups, and I'm sure people are going to tell me them here. Ruby vs Tucker has always vibed with me though, and I think it has to do with the theme. I haven't watched a lot of RWBY, and from everything I hear that may be a good thing, but from what I did watch, the theme of "Thrust into leadership roles" works pretty alright here.

I do feel like this is a fight that could work, and a RWBY/RVB MU seems pretty over-due. I wonder if the guys are a little tentative about doing Red vs Blue Match-Ups in general, it wouldn't surprise me if they were. Still, I think there is some merit to this Match-Up.

#3. Stan Smith vs Sterling Archer (American Dad vs Archer)

Adult Animation Secret Agents, I feel like everyone has that one MU on their list that just feels too obvious, like this is a fight they would have done in season 2 or 3 kind of obvious.

I mean, I almost don't want to include this one here, again it just feels like a battle they would have done before, but I'd rather be honest and predictable than dishonest and unique, so here is one of my obvious Match-Ups for this list.

#2. Saxton Hale vs Brock Samson (Team Fortress 2 vs Venture Brothers)

I don't care if this one is a stomp... actually the last list I did had a total stomp MU at the second place as well... weird coincidence. Team Fortress 2 needs another episode, and Brock Samson has been aching for an episode of Death Battle for a long time.

I think Saxton Hale would be perfect for a Death Battle episode, the kind of Over the Top violence that the show is good at is practically his bread and butter. It would also be fun to see a non-mercenary TF2 character in DB, even if their are only three who would make decent DB episodes.

#1. Sly Cooper vs Rouge the Bat (Sly Cooper vs Sonic the Hedgehog)

When it comes to Match-Ups in the category of "How has this not happened yet" I feel like this is one of the big ones. Two anthropomorphic thief characters, like this Match-Up just screams season 4 at the very least.

I feel like this battle is more or less a victim of "Algorithmic Thinking", where the guys have to think about what Match-Up would be good for the YouTube algorithm rather than what would be fun to make. That's the entire reason Cole MacGrath vs Alex Mercer didn't happen until Season 10, and probably why we still haven't got Travis Touchdown vs Jack Cayman or any representation from BioShock, Dead Space or Creepypasta as of yet, though an SCP battle may be coming soon, hoping that happens.

Admittedly, the reasoning is pretty debatable, Sonic the Hedgehog is an absurdly popular franchise, so any Sonic battle, I think, would do pretty well viewership wise, but I'll never know, maybe they're just waiting for the right person to write or animate it. Still, if this battle gets announced, I know people would be hyped.

Ever since stepping foot in Hogwarts these two seemed to have a strong rivalry, going as far as fighting each other on the hallway!

Despite the last 6 years, they seem to have made up? Since a few months ago they have been seen talking normally like nothing ever happened.

Did something happen between them? Some readers say that love was the glue that fixed old wounds, how romantic!!

Being childhood friends, it wouldn't be such a surprise if something happened between them. They are in the same friend group, have the same tastes, even share a room!

First of all: Long Live the Queen! Hope you're doing great, your stories are a real delicacy... I first discovered your Tsunami fic when I was in my jjk era, but your Arsenic Blues woke up my inner pjo fan. So eager to see how this all unfold.

My personnal RoR favorites based on the manga only:

1) Shiva--> Not in the harem, but I had to place him somehow. Was searching for a Shiva fic in the first place. Love the himbo energy. At least it's good to see he's one of the "sane" one in your story.

2) Anubis--> Same, feral himbo doggo energy, can we ask for more?

3) Beelzebub--> Noo don't unalive yourself Bb love u so pretty haha🥺

4) Hadès--> All Hail to the King, here for the BigBro energy

5) Poseidon--> Mytho/Pjo fan here, of course he's one of my favorite gods, but I'm not a fan of his RoR portrayal. He's pretty tho.

6) Apollon--> Too effeminate for my taste, I was rooting for Leonidas anyway.

7) Loki--> U ugly ass, stinky ass, nasty ass bi***

Now, the interesting part, the Ranking based on [Arsenic Blues], as for now, until chapter 31:

1) Beelie Bestie 🤗! It seems you will soon give us reasons to hate him, but for now he's my personal favorite. Hope he will overcome his current difficulties. Fun fact: I tried to translate "Beelie" in my language, tried to find an equivalent nickname, I found "Bébou" (pronounced beeboo, another way to say "baby"). That’s so cute!

2) Loki--> I know it's unlikely but... is this bad that I really want him to take Percy's virginity 😳? Your writing is soooo good, it made me root for him of all people. Everyone loves a good outsider, and since he doesn't want to kill Percy anymore, he climbs up the ranking.

3) Anubis--> Favorite from the manga, I was sooo happy to see that u included the doggo. Didn't appear yet, but I have really high hopes for him. Beware the Allmighty Knot!

4) Poseidon--> This is a dark fic, I understand the appeal, the taboo of the incestual relationship, but since he's already her father, her family, the one who has authority over her, I think he has an unfair advantage compared to the others. This is the reason he's kinda low ranked, but I really loved the relationship he built with our best girl. Embrace Fatherhood (but not too much😰)

5) Hadès--> Same here, too much authority over her, doesn't have the appeal of the gradually evolving relationship. Creepy old  uncle, hope your non-existent liver bursts. For now, he's the one who had the most "action" with Percy, so it seems unlikely that he will have her virginity as well.

6) Apollon--> Well, at least he's funny 😅. I'm sorry, but based on his pathetic simpy behavior, I have to give him the stamp of the "Whiny Little Bitch" of this story. Don't worry tho, there always have to be one in a fic, and he's not as bad as his Tsunami counterpart (Yuuta you nasty motherfucker I had faith in you-).

7) The Seventh--> Seeing the results of the poll, it seems I'm one of the only weirdos who voted for Ahura Mazda. Raa would be awesome too, but I have to say I was disturbed when I first saw that angry buff dude in the spin-off. For me, Raa was still that muscle mommy from the webtoon/manhwa Ennead (read Ennead. Ennead is good for your health). I just want the 7th to not be Cu Chulainn. I know I would still love it if you include him (cause ur writing is golden) but that's just a preference of mine.

I hope I'm understood. That's a big ass message, my thoughts are all over the place and my home country is known for having a shit level in english.

So, the poll results are as follows:

I expected this kind of result. To me, Lucifer and Leviathan are by far the most aesthetically pleasing of the Kings.

I also expected this result as Satan has big First Guy vibes. It’s nice that he always emphasizes that he wants us to do whatever we want. He says we’re his all the time but still gives us the freedom to do our own thing but is there if we need him.

So, what part of Satan’s personality made you guys pick him?

Something I found interesting: The larger difference between first and second place (and second/third place) compared to the previous poll. So it seems that people are more aligned on personality than looks in this case.

I’m very curious about what you guys like about Satan’s voice? Why it appeals to you so much more than the others? To me, it’s a little generic. My vote went to Beelzebub.

But the people who like Satan’s voice must be very happy that PrettyBusy had to change his voice actor to the current one before launch due to circumstances.

Also, this poll had the largest Other choice, with 11.8% of people preferring a Noble’s voice over the Kings.

What do you think about the final voting results?

I didn't have time yet to do a proper analysis - also I think the vote was really badly run (as in zero precautions against vote spamming), so I don't know if it's worth going into a lot of details, but I did a small analysis.

Once you put the results as % of the votes, they are actually quite unsurprising and within the expected range given the last 4 Japanese votes.

Bakugou's result is towards his high range (in earlier polls, he was sometimes above 30% even) but higher than his latest averages.

Deku actually outperformed his normal range by 5% - so he got a boost globally and also overperformed his average.

Shoto stayed within his normal range and normal average of the last 4 years.

The gap between 2nd and 3rd, as well as 3rd and 4th is bigger than usual.

The Top 3 got 56% of the global vote, while usually this is closer to 45-50%.

I think this is all pretty understandable:

Deku and Bakugou are the faces of the franchise, and most excitement as about their 2-way race, giving both of them a boost

Shoto is probably the 3rd best-known character other than All Might, and his fanbase remained engaged after there seemed to be a threat for his 3rd spot by Aizawa.

And here are some more considerations:

The numbers are very bloated by the way the vote was organized.

6,2 million votes over 60 days is only around 100,000 votes/day. Let's say, on average people voted at least on two different devices (a tame assumption), and it's only 50,000 votes/day

At that scale, a single person spamming 100s of votes (via incognito windows / multiple devices /VPNs etc.) can skew the results. We know for a fact that such multiple voting went on even in an organized manner among some fans. I think maybe they caught a couple of votes, but I really doubt they caught a lot of the multi-voting.

2. Japan remained the biggest factor in the vote

We know this from Endeavor's result. Endeavor was 9th in Midterms and 6th in the final. However, he only made it to Top 10 in the end: in Japan (4), Asia (10), Europe (8) and Middle East (5).

Middle East seemed like a small region with not much impact, so Japan alone managed to pull Endeavor up from 9th -> 6th in the 2nd part of the vote.

3. Methodology was lacking

Although the organizers said they checked the votes, we don't know what they were checking for or how many they eliminated in the end. I think it's clear that multiple voting was not eliminated though, only bots.

In the Plus Ultra stage they announced results within 30 minutes, and no numbers were given - which to me tells that they were not really going for a clean vote but wanted the tag trending before the release of Volume 42 as a marketing move.

Having said all of this, I do think that these results are pretty realistic:

Bakugou is definitely the most popular character globally, as he won every region other than Europe. It's unsurprising too - he has a fun design, got great content in the endgame and he's the central component of many popular ships

Deku actually did really well globally and outperformed his usual Japanese poll performance. I think globally there are a lot of Deku-fans and they definitely put up a good fight.

Shoto globally seems to be a pretty solid 3rd, but did lose his 3rd spot in a couple of smaller regions (in Oceania and Latin America to Kirishima and in the Middle East to Dabi).

Beyond the Top 3, there are definitely regional preferences for 4th place: Japan - Endeavor, Asia - Hawks, North America - Kirishima, Europe - Dabi - interestingly, Aizawa who is the overall 4th didn't actually make it to Top 4 in any regions.
