but at a high school in a pretty small town, i was out - tbh, i was "that dyke" but i owned the term hard ok - i made it mine and made it cool aight lmao - but i was only out at school and w my siblings. my parents and other family? i mean - i was obvious as hell, but they preferred to turn a blind eye.

and there were a few kids i'd been in classes w since middle school that kinda had me raising an eyebrow fairly often, shall we say.. but ofc i never said anything

and within like a year of graduating hs they all came out and i'm like duuuude we coulda been the cool queer clique lmao. instead i was just the weird gay kid. but i also cleaned up w the small town bi-curious, i can't lie. my androgyny has been lifelong, tbh.

but the reason it resonates back to adora taking so long to just consider what she wants does strike a pang in my sternum - it never felt ok. not even to think about. less than a second of thoughts could bubble up and that would be enough to drag in the need to repress.

what do you want? and how fucked up is it that good people are made to feel like whatever that is, they just aren't allowed to have? aren't even allowed to want?

doesn't matter if it hurts no one - doesn't matter if all it adds to existence is a lil more love -

other people have decided - it's not for you. it's not the kinda love that matters or should even exist - which i can't help but chuckle at cause uhhh 😅

Fun Story to Share.

I got my (now 18-year-old) daughter into Ao3 back in 2021. I taught her she should always comment - even if the fic looks old or abandoned or whatever. She did.

Well - she got this email this morning:

The fic was written in 2014 and essentially abandoned.

Bethy read and reviewed in 2021 (and was actually the only person who had commented at all).

Today in 2025 - the final chapter was posted by the author and this was her reply to Bethy’s comment.

I recently got an on-campus job. During the interview process, I requested that I not be scheduled on Friday nights or Saturdays as I am a Jewish student.

My boss immeadiately brightened and rushed to explain - "Of course ! Of course! We want to accomodate you! We have another worker who takes off for Ramadan. Do you need to take off for Ramadan?"

I shook my head, incredibly confused. "Uh. That's. Not my jurisdiction. I'm good." Boss nodded but was sure to add "Let me know if that ever changes. We can help you with Ramadan."
