Q Character Anaylsis

My old analysis of Q was kind of bad so here is a new and improved one! No spoilers hopefully :3

Q is a very complicated character in my opinion, simply because we don’t know much about them despite multiple approaches and Dazai fearing them, they have this air of mystery to them that is very interesting in my opinion so- let’s take in the literature base first, Dogura Magura by Yumeno Kyūsaku.

In Dogura Magura the narrator wakes up in a hospital, finding out that he was originally an experiment and killed his mother and wife and he inherited his psychotic tendencies. The novel is inspired by Freudian Psychoanalysis- an idea that people could be cured by making their unconscious a conscious thought and motivations, and by that gaining "insight".

So, relating this to Q, their ability is a mind control that forces illusions on people who intentionally or unintentionally harmed them, we can relate this to Freudian Psychoanalysis since Q makes an unconcious thought (I assume fear?) conscious as an illusion that drives people to attack others because of it. Q thinks of their ability as a curse because they know how dangerous it is, and we also know that abilites can influence the user as well so perhaps Q's psychotic nature is due to their ability and how they grew up.

Q has some major issues on how they see society as well, their hatred of their ability was obviously a result of how people treated them and perhaps they feel that society deserves to be forced to see their fears (we know that Q has "fun" when using their ability on others after all). Their personality seems to flip flop between being an innocent child and being sadistic, they are good at following directions and ignoring their wants.

When Q was captured by the guild, we saw that they were easily influenced, they took answers that were given to them and believed it easily, even when it was something that mentally harmed them or made them hate themselves even more. Q's appearance could also relate to their personality since it seems split, half black and half white hair, different shaped pupils, etc.

Though we know that character designs in BSD are based off of the popular works of the authors so I might just be reaching for straws

Perspective is precluded when we push ourselves into corners and refuse to let others listen to us. More often than not, people love silently, yet fiercely. Still, we are but an accumulation of happenings. Our experiences dictate how we perceive ourselves. They demand to be felt and honored, and they build upon each other. No corner is big enough for them all. That's why we share them, in hopes that we can divide those experiences into different corners. And together, we can build a house made of corners with different experiences, and people willing to love us despite of them.

It took me over 2 weeks and 3 different books to be able to continue with this one. It feels as if this book is explaining every human emotion people tend to leave unsaid. And it's incredibly confronting.

Kombatober 2024: Day 03: Favorite Intro

I really like the 3-line exchanges of earlier generations; kinda feeling like we got shafted on MK1’s two-liners. That said, I love the poetry nod in MK11 Jax/Sonya dialogue: Jax: One day, our kids will replace us.

Sonya: I will not go gentle into that good night.

Jax: Let's rage against the dying of the light. It’s a reference to Dylan Thomas’ poem Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night.

we talked a lot/ when i was a kid/

we/ is a strong word/

but for all your faults/ you were a very effective teacher/

i knew from a young age/ how to nod with an acceptable amount of deference/

how to balance noises of assurance with eye contact/

even gods least-favorite little yes-men have to start somewhere

i don’t think i really understood it/ not for a long time/ 

that look in your eyes/ when you caught sight of me/

staring at each other through filmy glass/

i knew it was love/ because you didn’t look at your coworkers like that/ 

and you loved me/

obviously/

i think i figured it out before i could put words to it/

but it’s been a couple of years since i was thirteen/

and that over-grown slice of caviar had a instinct for self-flattery so deep you’d think they were trying to breathe it/

but you looked at me the way people look at wall-trophies/

so i started slipping sarcasm into answers you hadn’t asked for/

locked off whatever sense of self i could stand to lose for a few hours/

and kept my face blank when you stormed away from the open aquarium lid/

learned what house keys and petty malice sounded like/ walking up my back porch/

and just how much teeth i could use when greeting you/

before you started to suspect something was wrong/

but you couldn’t be uncouth/

you couldn’t stoop to my level/ 

admit to starting the game/ while i swam circles around you/ your flashing lures/

and taught myself how to hold my mouth that it was never more than a second from snapping shut/

because i understood how to win wars/

and you couldn’t bear the thought that your prize-winning goldfish was planning a coup/

much less that you had earned it/

i don’t know if it was pride or blindness/

or whatever blurring line you had dragged into the sand on your way off the beach/

something wriggling in a sack and trying it’s best to bite you/

it’s the argument i’ve always kinda wanted to finish/

to load myself with spears and fishhooks and find out how real those tears were/

because you did this to me in less than two decades

and i’ve spent a significant amount of time with my face tucked to carpet undoing it

and in the process i have discovered that i am not a nice person/

i have seen what happens to people who throw themselves after white whales/

strapped with as many weapons as can fit onboard and set off from harbor with a hunger in their teeth that would pull sympathy from Tantalus/

and in the stories i am thinking of/

the best the good captain can hope for/ is killing his whale/

in the same instance his noose runs out of slack/

that he gets to see the death throes of that great/ terrible beast/

while the rope between them sees him keel-hauled/

and i don’t know that i find the idea an unsatisfactory one

i would rather like to hunt you for sport/ 

with a fervor i don’t think i could pass off as casual interest/

i would display you before an hostile/ silent crowd/

huddled faces spilling across the port as i haul your corpse into the town center/

introduce myself as your murderer when i am invited to parties/

let the anger rot through me/ some last disease from your disseminated blubber/

and barring public execution/ i would like one more chance/ 

one more polite luncheon/

to inflict just as much pain on you as i can manage in two hours and fourteen minutes/

but i don’t think either of us should be allowed to do that to each other anymore/

if only for the sake of the wait staff/

and that withering beta fish/ trapped in whatever cup you happened to clean out that week/

has wanted to hit you in the mouth for a very long time/

and i’m pretty sure i shouldn’t be allowed to do that either/

regardless of how much either of us deserve it//

Ooh good question, thanks for the ask! And I like the TV Tropes Thursday idea. I haven't actually spent much time on the website other than when people make it for their fav AO3 fics, so here I go — rabbit trail time!

Alright. I skimmed through some of the pages for Casey McQuiston's Red, White, and Royal Blue, Jason Todd, NBC's Hannibal, and Clouds' BNHA fic Deku? I Think He's Some Pro. I was also going to look at Mastermind's tropes but the list was already too long haha. Here they are . . . I tried shortening the list:

Unholy Matrimony, The Family That Slays Together, Dating Catwoman, : Relationships with villains and/or morally gray characters are some of my favorite tropes in fiction. There's a reason I thoroughly enjoy villain AUs on AO3, my favourite DC character is Jason Todd, and I adored Suzanne Collins' Hunger Games prequel.

Queer Romance: I'm a disaster pining sapphic. I live for any queer romance, it's my bread and butter, my way of making through my day to day life /hj

Reformed, but Not Tamed: I love redemption arcs as much as corruption arcs. But for a redemption arc, I almost always need this trope otherwise it doesn't feel right? Also I just,, love someone being reformed but still absolutely feral. It's Very Enjoyable.

Dramatic Irony, Loophole Abuse, Blatant Lies: I love just the comedic aspect of all of these. Sometimes the tragedy, but mostly how they make the audience and writer laugh.

And finally – Shout-Out: I'm a massive nerd; it's no secret. I love drawing parallels between my muses/writing and other pieces of media. There's a reason I make a shit ton of playlists and I have a Notion page filled with quotes for my characterization of Jason Todd. And one of my favourite parts about RWRB is the references that the characters make it in it.

I treat this page as an intimate blog into my life. My journal suffers with lack of content, or my pens rejoice in there purpose not being fulfilled so quickly.

Tonight, as some where in LA a women cries for her lost poems, I sat in the hall of my apartment. My son passing me notes from under the door because I said no Ice cream.

'You dont love me'

Oh, my child I could not love another more. Unfortunately, I am a mother and scrum much faster to emotional bouts. When he was here, we traded.

'i'll handle it' 'I got it'

Now it's, me. solely utterly. Me. My current apartment is $2,200 with bills this comes to about $2,390. Today, I got the letter about the lease renewal, month to month $2,465 not included bills. I expect the average will be $2,650. I make roughly, $3,800 to $4,200 on good month (net) . Unfortunately, with no longer having him here, well my hours went down (child care), less over time. I don't feel like I'm spend more on food. I'm planning on moving in the summer, I have a savings, I know work will accommodate to me, and if I need to borrow money I have options. Although I don't see it getting that bad I need to make it work for 4 to 5 months. Do able. I have had far less and far little in the past and made it work.

But that being send, I feel an irony. I feel the impact of his absence physically, emotionally, and - financially. I always made more than him. My job isn't corporate so my opinion matters and he resented me a bit for that. Going as far to say he could do my job better than me. My boss saw right through him, kept his opinions to him self but even he once asked me, If I was okay in the relationship. While I was in a elevator with a partner of the company, I was on the phone being screamed at by my boyfriend this of course got back to my boss. He was concerned. So, he hated my boss from then on. For caring. Like so many people had when they raised a concern over him, he hated them. How dare they have opinion on his actions.

But we were a dual income household. That came with a cushion. I now feel the cold apartment floor. I don't miss him. And sometimes I wish I could, because then I wouldn't feel guilt for the heaviness in my steps. His absence is conflicting, I miss him as a body. A thing that existed to keep me warm in bed, to make food, to take care of my son, to clean the cats litter, to pay half of everything.

But as a person. I'd rather this, then your dead pan stare every time I did anything you didn't like.

If I could go back, I would undo it. My first love left me with great love, My second love was easy and peaceful. You, you - will always be that bitter taste I wish I had spit out earlier
