Just my thoughts on InZoi (that no one asked for) ...

I am not a cynic but I am skeptical of any new "life simulation" games. And that's not to say I don't want The Sims to have a competitor, I think EA needs a competitor for The Sims. For the price tag of The Sims, EA needs pressure on them to address their complacency (with game content, the growing issues with paid content, etc). InZoi is far from that. At face value, I think the gameplay is unimpressive. I can understand why people are drawn to an in-depth, hyperrealistic character creation but to what end? The inclusion of AI, even if just for primarly patterns/textures, is an increasingly slippery slope. It's just for patterns ... for now, but how will AI provide shortcuts for the company in the future? That's one of my concerns and I think it's a bit shady for the company to have this feature. Any kind of AI generation has significant environmental impacts and contributes to art theft/the distribution of AI that has burdened the art community. I struggle to find a justifiable reason for the game having AI because I don’t think there is one. If you consider the computer that is needed to run a game with graphics like InZoi, the game isn’t accessible to people with “lower-end”/older PCs. An issue The Sims team had to address with the Sims 4 ie. the change in graphics and the game no longer being open world. I like that more people can play The Sims without needing a PC that is worth thousands of dollars. I keep seeing the comparison of InZoi to GTAV NPCs. As someone who has spent a lot of time playing with friends on GTAV FiveM servers, even those servers have better gameplay than I’ve seen with InZoi. Not to be funny but InZoi reminds me of those invasive 3D p*rn game ads.

The other aspect of InZoi that bothers me a little (maybe a lot) is the stark difference in how “regular” simmers are reacting to InZoi versus how some content creators/custom content creators are reacting. It’s a little frustrating for the people, even if through EA’s allotted 21-day early accesses, who make hundreds if not thousands of dollars off the community aren’t acknowledging let alone addressing the glaring concerns users have about InZoi. It seems many of them are going to brush these concerns aside for the opportunity to mod for the game (a game to me that doesn’t seem to value artists' work) and worse case scenario will jump ship to InZoi if Simblr takes issue with it.

In the days that follow the blazing argument with her mothers, Hex throws herself at anything to distract herself.

She signs up for Copperdale High’s Computer Club. She loves gaming and programming, but competing against others would be a healthy outlet for her heavy feelings. Plus, she’s made some new friends! 

The closest of those friends is Khloe. Once a badly dressed townie in dodgy CC, she’s finally gotten her Sim God makeover. Hex and Khloe have good compatibility too, making them fast friends.

One evening, Khloe comes home with Hex to work on a coding project together. However, her mind is on anything but their work. Hex eventually gives up and just grabs some dinner so she can keep working and eat at the same time.

Khloe: “Do you know how hot your sister is? Is she single?”

Hex pretends to gag, shaking her head vigorously. She’s trying to act cool, but her deep sadness casts a dark blue aura around her. Khloe fortunately ignores Hex’s false positivity and instead giggles at her antics. Khloe actually picked on Ashe on her first day of high school, so how has she now developed a crush on her?

Feelings are complicated. That’s something Hex had learned the hard way recently!

Yes absolutely burnout club 🎆🌠🎆 the past few months have been a crazy blur but I love spring best so I’ve been taking lots of pictures when the weather’s good so I can come back to April later 💙🌈💙 I hope the months have been treating you as kindly as they can.

ANYWAY kfhdjsld okay okay I have. a silly little crush right now. And it’s the most ridiculous character ever. Because I went with my siblings to see the musical Something Rotten and it was REALLY well done and I left with a crush on. sigh. Well as an introduction. Something Rotten, in case you’re unfamiliar, is a meta-comedic musical about two brothers, playwrights in the Renaissance (through, of course, a tongue-in-cheek modern lens), competing for notoriety against Literal William Shakespeare, who’s fictionalized as a self-obsessed, attention-loving, plagiarizing modern celebrity. Guess what character I walked out of there with a crush on. fljdjskd it’ll PASS it’ll pass my fictional crushes don’t last long and I can’t watch any live theatre without falling a little bit in love and I REFUSE to add Fictional Version of William Shakespeare to my blog. But ANYWAY *muffled through hands covering my face* that’s where my head is right now. It’s ridiculous and I hope someone else finds it as funny as I do. While I imagine my little scenarios.

Anyway I’m putting my chin in my hands now tell me who you’re thinking about most right now!!! :D (I have to say I love seeing you blog about your loves and crushes but I especially like seeing your stuff about Jonathan Sims— TMA actually wigged me out pretty badly for Horror Reasons for a while when it was first super popular, so I had the tag filtered out for a while, but your sweet posts are the only TMA things I see on my dash these days, and it’s really shifted the associations I have with the story as a whole now!! It makes me happy to see :D)

OMI AND CHASE BEING LIKE LUZ AND EDA IS SUCH A CUTE COMPARISON

Thanks! Originally I was in favor of 'Wuya and Eda are alike' idea. Back then, I had the urge to put XS characters in places of Toh characters. Not even a crossover, this au would have a similar plot to TOH but with XS characters instead. I wanted so badly for Jack to find friends in the demon realm I made him 'Luz'. Jack would meet Wuya – the most recognizable criminal witch on the Boiling Isles and her little roommate – Omi.

My decision to put Omi in King’s place was based on the fact both King and Omi tend to be boastful (and extremely cute!). Raimundo, Kimiko, Clay = the hexide kids. Dashi would take Raine’s role because Raeda and Wudashi are my OTPs and hey. You have to admit Dashi would look astonishing in Raine’s outfit!

I haven’t decided on whom to assign the role of Willow, Amity, and Gus. And I’m not fully convinced if I want Jack to find a significant other, so no equivalent of Lumity in this au! Moreover, I think Tiny Sim from XC could be a nice Mattholomule. Apart from that, I’ve figured out Shadow Young is perfect for the role of a grimwalker.

Both Hunter and Shadow were born in weird circumstances and share that ‘gold theme’ (well in shadow’s case – her disguise was more connected to gold but it was enough for me)

This version of au also had Chase as a potions’ guy, who sells treatments to Wuya’s curse. Of course, Omi has taken an interest in that mysterious grumpy man so Omi and Chase become good friends <3 damn, Chase also turns out to be a skilled witch as well and he teaches Omi some of his tricks!

The main problem, tho, lay in the most important part of s01 of Toh. No one is in Lilith's place because in XS it is unknown whether Wuya has a family or not. Ultimately, I intended to put Princess Kaila in Lilith's place and Hannibal Roy Bean could be Emperor Belos.

However, once I thought that through I discovered the conflict between the Clawthorne sisters is quite similar to what Chase and Guan have going on in xiaolin showdown.

Guan has tried for many centuries to bring Chase to the side of good with the same determination Lilith tried to convince Eda to join the Emperor's Coven.

I dare even assume Guan and Chase's friendship was as strong as the Clawthorne sisters' bond. (btw bless chase's smile. Lilith's smile is so cute too.)

But because of Guan and Lilith's greed, everything has changed. Once friends, now enemies.

(Mind you, Lilith and Guan have almost the same pose in these two screencaps! Ain't that a cool detail?)

Apart from that, I had my mind blown when I compared these two screencaps:

Lilith and Guan sure know how to swing their weapons!

They both tend to be very shady.

Guan has traded Dojo in order to redeem his Spear.

And Lilith has cursed Eda in order to secure for herself a position in the Emperor's Coven.

Not only did they sacrifice something even tho they knew someone might get hurt but they also share one particular trait. They both feel as if they never were good enough. Lilith is overshadowed by Eda's wild magic. Guan from the alternate timeline, on the other hand, had accepted HR's offer because he wanted to be the most powerful person in the world and he knew that he can't compete against Dashi and Chase. (It wasn't said directly in the show but I do believe Bean had bribed Guan with the same tricks as Chase. That is, Guan has heard fake!Chase say Guan will be in his shadow or sth)

Hence, Lilith and Guan's fear is becoming inadequate.

I just think that decision to make Guan and Chase have Clawthorne sister's arc fits even TOO well.

As you can see, in light of these afterthoughts I should change almost everything. For example,

Chase = Eda

Guan = Lilith

Omi= Luz

Jack = Hunter (someone had mentioned Jack could be a great grimwalker and I do see that bc Hunter and jack share some habits and personality traits.) (+ Luz and Hunter are found family and of course, I want more Omi-Jack brotherly moments so that tracks)

These are all great ideas and I can't make up my mind :( Because all Eda- Luz moments remind me either of nicer!Wuya and Jack or Chase and Omi and I love both duos! But Guan as Lilith makes more sense! Idk maybe I could manage to make both Wuya and Chase share Eda's story?? So One XS character would be a mix of 2 toh characters???? Let's say it's a work in progress.

Oh, and for a nice finish, I can even compare two Lilith-Eda's interactions to some Chase-Dashi bickering.

In Covention, Eda is annoying her sister and starts rhyming. Yup, the same scene but it's Dashi saying puns, and Chase warns him: 'One more pun. I dare you'. And a second later Chase hits Dashi because he refused to stop telling jokes xD

And when Eda shouted to Lulu 'I'm gonna get there before you!', Lilith was so shocked she exclaimed: 'No, you won't!' and started running after her. Yeah, it's also Dashi pulling Chase's leg. Because grown-ass men also deserve to act like 5-year-olds from time to time.

The horror of war is something I never want to see again. There are so many men who made the voyage back to Simerica only to die at the hands of infection or influenza. It's all I can do to keep my hands from being rubbed raw from all the handwashing I do.

We have a new patient. We didn't think he'd make it through the first night, but he did. He'd been caught in an attack with mustard gas and then a nearby shell threw flaming debris at him. He's more bandage than skin at this point. I sing to him. I sing to all the patients. it soothes them, and keeps me in practice. He woke one night while I was tending him, and I had the unfortunate task of telling him that he was never going to regain the sight in his left eye. I told him that he would heal and that the doctors were hopeful that the scarring wouldn't be too bad. He asked that we pray, so I grabbed his hand and said a small, quick prayer with him.

He then introduced himself as Otho Petrie Roper and that his family immigrated here before he was born from Finland. He tells me stories that his mother and father told him. He's quite engaging. I feel so terribly that he's in such pain as he heals, but I'm glad for the chance to lessen his pain with my company and care.

I had to tell the girls that their mother would need more help over the next few weeks. I don't know rightly know what happened, Daisy is a competant cook and knows her way around the kitchen but she'd been complaining that the stove was acting funny of late. I should have paid more heed to what she was saying. The dadgum thing caught fire and in her attempts to put it out Daisy was burned. Not badly but her arm is burned. I don't know how badly she'll scar, but that's not even the worst of it. She was with child. We had no idea. She didn't even think she could get pregnant anymore; it's been so long since Josephine was born. My poor Daisy has had such terrible bleeding that the doctor put her on bedrest for the next week.

Seeing Cyberpunk flop so badly on release seems to have completely broken the brains of the people who completely bought into the hype around Cyberpunk (strictly because they bought into the hype around Witcher 3, so far the only even competent game CDPR has made) because I absolutely do not see anything redeeming about this game even now. It’s stiff, movement is slow, the world is totally lifeless (even with people in it), and worst of all the shooting mechanics make every gun fight feel like you’re just blindly shooting at a refrigerator until it falls over. I was willing to give it a chance because it was allegedly so improved over its release state, and because I love immersive sims, but it absolutely did not deliver on any front. I really think the people beating the drum for it being this wonderful redemption story either are so distracted by the technical improvements that they didn’t notice the game itself is just bad, or so embarrassed about buying a $60 game day one only for it to be in a pre alpha state that they kept insisting it was great and that once the bugs were out it’d be the greatest game ever made

lowkey thinking about the theory that martin is actually Good At Archiving and jon is just bad at his job and like. remember when georgie told jon his assistants were hired so that they wouldn't see how bad he was at archiving? i can see that w tim/sasha, who were both researchers w little archival experience, but martin? martin's been working there for YEARS, so he'd presumably know when jon's been fucking up.

so imagine him in the beginning trying his best to keep his head down and do his job normally, so that jon won't suspect anything. but the thing is, jon has an Idea of how archiving should work that's just. wrong. and martin thinks about correcting him, but jon seems to already dislike him for some reason??? and martin doesn't want to piss him off more and get more on his radar. so he doesn't say anything. the issue then is, of course, that not saying anything means that they're still doing things /wrong/, and now whenever he tries to do his actual job, he gets scolded, because he's using actual archiving methods instead of whatever these guys are doing, and he spends like the entirety of s1+2 cleaning up after these morons and trying not to shake them and ask if any of them have so much as taken a /workshop/ on archival best practices.

*relatedly, i fully respect this but there's a lot going on in that breakfast. hashbrowns are life, yes but with smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on rye bread? that's a woman who knows, very specifically, what she wants (it's tiny, weird british men) (don't we all)

Here it is. the list of Streams of All Time, consisting of vods from Tomato Gaming and Hollowtones. Very different variety streamers but i love them both to death and want to share some of my favorites of theirs. i would get the links to all these but i'll do that later, for now you can just search them up on yt easily

Tomato Gaming (Tomato on twitch)

My Summer Car series (+modded stream): If there’s any way to witness the insanity of this absolutely fucked up Finnish perma-death survival car sim where you try to fix up a car and get with a girl via some… insane tactics, then this is the way to do it. Tomato, for all his competence, decides to go toe-to-toe with this hellish sim, while also learning how to fix up the car from the ground up (with a guide). Entertaining all the way through, for sure.

I’m On Observation Duty streams: Huge Man. All you need to know.

Sailwind stream: what if a man fucked up so badly at every turn trying to do the simple task of sailing from town to town to deliver packages and earn money. See it here.

Outer Wilds series: I find this one rather legendary. The man is smart, and shows that he really admires the game as a whole, as evident by the 8 hr stream he did where he completed the dlc in one sitting right after it came out. Amazing stuff, really.

Teardown series: Anyone will have to admire the dedication he has to the game, balancing well how much he goofs around and how much he focuses upon crafting a perfect route.

Red Dead Redemption 2 rp server series: The Filth is utterly fascinating as a character, a wretched beast that wanders the woods and forever leaves a mark upon those he meets.

Elder Scrolls V Skyrim (Requiem) series: What starts out as a fun romp with a somewhat improved skyrim experience turns into a gut-wrenching story of a disturbed, all-powerful man-god and his efforts to appease his deranged “father”.

The Greatest Penguin Heist of All Time: Tomato and his dear pal Bedbananas play as funny little penguins and kill other funny little penguins in various intense heists. Co-op streams are always a treat to see, and as per usual, Tomato and Bed strike an amazing chemistry together

ANY of the Viscera Cleanup Detail streams: VCD on its own is just fun to watch, and I believe most, if not all of these streams are co-op.

Minecraft streams: This playlist of his has multiple different series and one-offs within, and while I cannot vouch for them all, it’s fun to watch him focus in on progressing in the modpack whilst many others stand in his way.

Dread X Collection streams. Collections of horror games, he did two streams for Collection 2 and one for The Hunt collection. He’s just delightful to watch play some horror games, and really adores a good horror game.

White Day series: A very fascinating old japanese horror game based upon White Day, which I don’t think even has anything to do with White Day at all. His playthrough is one of the few out there, and is a good example of a chunk of games he streams; crusty japanese and korean horror games that have as many merits to them as they have faults.

WorldBox: God Simulator stream: A tale lasting for centuries upon centuries, where civilizations rise and fall to the whims of this mad god, who also likes to be a crab sometimes. Multiple protagonists take and leave the stage, and in one agonizing moment becomes an all powerful villain which holds his own against mind-flaying superbeings. It’s a fun time.

Long Dark series: If it were not evident yet, one of Tomato’s favorite game genres are vicious survival unofficially-horror games, and his play of multiple of Long Dark’s challenges is evident of this. This was one of the first streams of his that I watched, and perhaps I do hold some bias for the entertainment of these, they’re also amazing to watch, and one of the few times you’ll see someone be both good at and enjoy a grueling survival game multiple times.

Murder House, Stay Out of The House, Do You Copy, Feed Me Billy, Death Flush, and Mother streams: Yes, this is multiple streams. They’re not connected in any canon sorta way, but more so by genre; indie horrors, for the most part. I felt it’d be too long to list them all separately, but every one of these are fascinating in their own right, and Tomato’s method of playing them brings you right at ease to enjoy them along with him.

Giraffe Town: Disturbing as hell game in a league of its own. Good stream, go watch it.

Super Go Fish For Super Players: two people by the long forgotten names of Holly and Rud are TRAPPED together in the forest of life until they go through this 999 card custom deck, featuring a very many scooby doos, multiple different loz suits, Tragedy, my hero academia, and bitches. Multiple people come and go, flaunting their freedom to watch these two in their hellish, but temporary, purgatory throughout the stream, and all have quite the riot in their endless search for the legendary Rainbow Doo.

Hypnospace Outlaw series: Holly and Mike take a journey to the distant past, to moderate a dream-based form of internet that you’d log into during your sleep. It’s delightful, I promise you that.

My Friend Peppa Pig: Joined by her sister, Holly ventures into this hidden gem of an indie horror game, gathering legendary footage of a piece of history buried beneath the flowing sands of time.

Holly Reads About Sandwiches: A complete reading and analysis of the entire wikipedia article on Sandwiches. Joined by multiple people throughout this 7 ½ hour stream, she uncovers knowledge that should have never been seen by another in this lifetime, nor any other.

Psychonauts/Psychonauts 2: Holly plays through the entirety of the Psychonauts series for the first time (except for Rhombus of Ruin, you’ll need to search for an alternative playthrough of that, as it is important for understanding Psy2), and has a lot of fun. I have little to say here that wouldn’t just spoil how great it is, just go watch it.

Claymates: Claymates.

Outer Wilds series: Sorry Outer Wilds is good so I’m recommending her stream too. Joined by Mike, Outer Wilds expert that takes as much joy as I do in watching anyone play through the game for the first time.

Amongus Streams with RTVS Crew: It’s fucking among us. What do you expect.

Wandersong series: Holly really gives a beautiful voice to every character in the game, and delights in all its charms. Also accidentally names the bard their canon name (other than Bard). If part 4 of the series doesn't work for you in the app, open the video in browser and it’ll work just fine.

Alan Wake series: Holly and Mike approach the game just as any other person should; like a B-movie horror with the fun crustiness of an old xbox shooter title.

God Speed Your Love to Me

For @jonmartinweek​ Day 4, prompt: “Tea.” Set in mid-S4, feature Jon & Daisy friendship and Big Pining. Title by the Righteous Brothers.

It wasn’t that Jon couldn’t make his own tea. He’d been doing so quite competently for over twenty years: boil water, insert leaves. His grandmother used to re-use the same tea bag two or three times, until the resulting drink could hardly even be called tea, but Jon had somehow swung the opposite direction. He liked his tea strong and black (or, according to certain people, oversteeped and bitter — Georgie had done a spit take the first time he made her a cuppa).

Jon’s tea was practical. It fulfilled all the functions tea was meant for. It was fine.

He set the mug down within Daisy’s reach, near the corner of the tunnels she’d claimed. She was sat leaning against the wall, one earbud in, though the volume was too low for Jon to make out what she was listening to. (He knew anyway. The Archers. Trying to catch up on all the episodes she’d missed.)

Daisy stared at him blankly for a moment, and then at the mug; she thumbed her phone to stop the episode. “What’s this?” she asked, sounding more confused than suspicious.

“Surely I’m not that bad at making tea,” Jon said, but clearly the joke fell flat. He cleared his throat awkwardly. “I, er. It’s still quite cold down here, so I thought — obviously you’re not obligated to, to take it, I’ll just drink it myself —”

Daisy’s arm shook a little as she pulled the mug to her, and she needed both hands to raise it to her mouth. “Tastes like shit,” she declared, but kept on drinking anyway.

“Well, you’re welcome,” Jon said, letting his annoyance slip, but Daisy just gave him half a smile in return. She always had found it funny when he lost his temper; at the time, he’d assumed it was because of how utterly unthreatening he was, compared to her. A wolf watching a Pomeranian snap and snarl.

Of course, she’d known he was a threat anyway. Had been planning to kill him for it. And now she was smirking at him from a nest of blankets instead.

“I’ll just — I’ll be in my office. If you, ah, need anything,” Jon said, for lack of anything else to do.

As he was walking away, he heard Daisy murmur, “Thanks.”

“Why do you keep making all this tea?”

Daisy had been listening to him record, again, though it wasn’t a statement she had any particular insight into. Perhaps she was just all caught up on the Archers. Jon looked down at the mug in his hand, and then at the — ah — three occupying various bits of his desk. Two of them were still almost full.

“Habit, I suppose,” Jon said, finding a convenient spot to nestle mug #4. “Martin use to —” No. He wasn’t going to talk about him in the past tense. He wasn’t dead. “Martin’s usually in here a few times a day with tea, if I haven’t made any for myself, and I suppose I got used to it.”

“His tea taste like boiled socks too?” Daisy asked.

“My tea tastes fine,” Jon said, “as proven by how much of it you drink.”

“Well, you don’t,” she pointed out. “No sense wasting it.”

Jon maintained eye contact with her while taking a deep drink from mug #4, and she rolled her eyes at him.

Jon slunk back to his office after the intervention, as much from shame as fear. Basira had looked truly furious enough to kill him, and he wasn’t entirely sure she was wrong.

But at least she and Melanie were here to glare at him. Martin apparently couldn’t even stand the sight of him.

He started when the door opened, bracing himself for another argument; but it was Daisy, who had been so much quieter than the others. She snagged the other office chair with one foot and pushed a mug of tea in Jon’s direction, even though by this point it was probably close to two in the morning. “You want to talk about it?” she asked.

“I’m not up for another argument,” Jon grumbled.

“Not what I asked.” Daisy had him fixed in a piercing stare. A predatory stare. “Remember, I’ve done at lot worse than steal someone’s story.”

Right. Jon involuntarily touched his throat, remembering the feeling of her grip crushing his windpipe. “I suppose so.”

“So if you want to talk about it,” Daisy continued. “We can talk. Monster to monster.”

Jon snorted. He probably should talk to someone, and it wasn’t as there were twelve-step programs for avatars. “Not right now, I think,” he said. “I’m ... I need a moment.”

Daisy nodded, and nudged the mug of tea closer to him. “Fine. Drink up, then.”

Jon’s stomach rebelled at the thought. Not just because he knew it wouldn’t satisfy him — not properly, not in the way he craved. But also ... did he even deserve the comfort?

Had Martin made tea for Jess Tyrell?

“I’m not thirsty,” he muttered, and pushed the mug back at her.

Daisy didn’t argue. Just studied him for a bit. “I know you and Martin were close,” she said, as if she’d read his mind.

“I ... yes. I suppose we were.” Were being the operative word here, apparently. “Not through any fault of mine, of course. He’s the one who made it work.”

“By bringing you tea?”

Jon sighed. “And taking me to lunch, and reminding me to take my medication... not that I deserved any of it.”

“Pretty low bar to deserve to eat,” Daisy observed.

He shook his head. “That’s not what I meant. I ... after we found Gertrude’s body, I was ... I took it badly. In hindsight, I’m not sure how much it was a trauma response and how much was the Eye beginning to take hold of me. But I was seeing murderers around every corner, and I ... I took it out on everyone else around me, in the worst ways. But for some reason, Martin kept reaching out, kept ... being there, even when I was awful to him. If it hadn’t been for him—”

Jon clenched his hands, imagining for a moment that it was Martin bringing him tea now; Martin saying you can talk to me, you know; Martin present, physically and mentally,  the way he’d been when Jon’s paranoia was at its worst. He’d never thanked him for it, not properly. He’d thought there would be more time—

Well. Martin had had time, while Jon lay in his coma. And he’d used it to put as much distance as possible between them, just when Jon was finally brave enough to reach back.

Daisy tilted her head like she was slotting something together. “Isn’t that what he’s doing now? Trying to help?”

“Sure, when he’s not off doing god-know-what with Lukas...” Jon muttered.

“I meant with the tape,” Daisy clarified. “He could’ve kept it. Kept your secret. But he cared enough to tell us. Cared enough to stop you.”

Not enough to come in person, though. Jon managed not to blurt that out, but only barely. “He’s made his choice and it’s not me,” was what he did say. “And I can’t even blame him for it. Although why he’d turn around and take up with Lukas if he finds it so objectionable down here...”

Daisy raised an eyebrow. “Are you jealous, Sims?”

“No,” Jon said immediately. “Of course not. I’m just ... I’m tired.”

Daisy took the hint, and stood. She didn’t remove the tea, however. “For what it’s worth, I think there’s something more going on with Martin than it seems. He’s playing his own game. I just can’t work out what it is.”

“If you do, let me know, because the Eye gives me nothing,” Jon told her morosely.

“Get some sleep,” Daisy said, and slipped out of his office.

Jon stared into the rapidly cooling tea. He wanted to trust Martin. He did trust Martin. But he also missed him, desperately, or at least the version of him from a year ago who never condoned Jon’s terrible behavior but nevertheless still cared — still treated him as someone worthy of care. He’d been such a lifeline then, but now Jon needed him more than ever and Martin had left him —

Ah. Yes. Lonely.

Come back, Jon thought, but even alone in his office he couldn’t bear to voice it. Finish whatever it is you’re up to and come back to me.

He tried to drink some of the tea, since it was there. It was exactly as bitter as he liked it.

Meraki Year 1, Day 7 (Autumn 1st) Summary

* Holy ogres, what didn’t happen today?  We had job promotions, a demotion, an affair, babysitting, toddler skilling, flu, political machinations, sims questioning their self-identity, and a three-for-one visit from every simblr’s favorite demon satyr.  And, of course, a couple trips to the good ol’ Fishin’ Hole.

* Let’s start with the big one - thanks to the family’s seasonal ROS roll, Tammuz of the Green Eyes decided to seize the day and act on his feelings towards Gandu of the Sapphire Eyes, who eagerly accepted his advances.  Rubati of the Green Eyes caught the tail end of their encounter after arriving home from work and coming inside to light the fire for the night.  Rubati and Tammuz have hardly spoken to each other since, although at Tzivia of the Golden Eyes’ birthday party, seemingly everyone else weighed in on the situation.  (Their background is a culture that is the most monogamous of the Merakians’, so this is a breach of trust and protocol if nothing else.  Also seems pertinent to remind readers that no one in Meraki has chosen to get married yet - not even Rubati and Tammuz.)

* Lehabim of the Golden Eyes and Stachia of the Icicle Eyes’ competing visions for what leadership in the village looks like are starting to crystalize.  Lehabim wants to strengthen a partnership with Dan O Dubhghaill (aka Dan O’Doyle to @moocha-muses‘s readers) so that Dan’s magical powers can be harnessed to Meraki’s advantage.  Stachia, on the other hand, believes the Merakians should strive for self-sufficiency, rather than be beholden to the Spirit of the Forest who is, still, mostly an unknown quantity.  To that end, Stachia is organizing a secret hunting trip to the meadow which she, Saphir of the Golden Eyes, and Nadii’ya of the Brown Eyes will depart for at first light tomorrow.  Stachia’s partner, Pallu, is definitely in her corner, and Saphir of the Golden Eyes might be, too - despite being Lehabim’s partner - out of pure distrust of Dan.  So far, Lehb’s faction includes Noel of the Amethyst Eyes and at least Nadii’ya of the Brown Eyes, unless she’s playing both sides. Most of the other Merakians are either on the fence about which sim they support, or completely disinterested in the concept of a leader.

* Speaking of Dan, he kept his word to Lehabim (of course) and saw to it that Tzivia’s birthday party was a good one.  He chatted up several residents but did not succeed in convincing any of them to make a deal.  After the party, he spotted two caves with no fires lit and stopped by to see what he could see on his way home to his hollow.  First, at the Amethyst Eyes cave, he met the “little mother,” Gaia, and seems to have taken what I swear is not a creepy shine to her.  Since Gaia’s parents were sick with flu, Dan helped out by killing a deer for them, relieving Gaia of her stink cloud, and picking up some trash.  Later, at the Sapphire Eyes cave, he tried to play peek-a-boo with Nehorai, scaring him badly enough that Gandu ran over to scream at Dan to leave - which he did, more or less right away.

* Career Status Roundup:

     - Pallu of the Icicle Eyes got demoted from level 2 to level 1 of the Neolithic Trader career due to a bad chance card, and is now a lowly explorer looking for a trade partner again.  Junia of the Sapphire Eyes got a performance-based promotion in the same career, from Supplicant to Food Runner.  This development empowers the villagers to sell their fish, game, and produce to the bank, if they have any extra.. (lolol ‘extra’ good one)

     - Stachia of the Icicle Eyes and Lehabim of the Golden Eyes both got promoted to level 3 of Neolithic Politics career and are now Influencers - no official power yet, but are building their followings, as above.

     - Saphir of the Golden Eyes got promoted to level 3 of the Neolithic Warrior career and is now a Warthog Wrangler.

     - Rubati of the Green Eyes got promoted to level 3 of the Neolithic Shaman career and is now a Rain Dancer.

     - Noel and Kimba of the Amethyst Eyes skipped work because of flu, and are stuck at level 2 of the Neolithic Shaman and Neolithic Medicine careers, respectively: Matrimonial Joiner and Herbalist.

     - For whatever reason, despite being a workaholic, Tammuz of the Green Eyes is stuck at level 1 of the Neolithic Medicine career: Boo-boo Kisser.  Likewise, both Nadii’ya and Tobiah of the Brown Eyes are still level 1 Neolithic Warriors: Hearth Protectors.  As a family sim and an absent-minded pleasure sim, respectively, this is significantly less surprising than Tammuz’s inertia.

     - And, finally, Gandu of the Sapphire Eyes is the only sim in a career not eligible to advance the village to the next age, but more than vital to its ongoing development: Neolithic Carpentry.  Gandu’s at level 2 of 5, meaning he’s unlocked the ability to make simple log furniture and carve simple instruments like flutes.  To that end, the other villagers have been loading him up with felled trees from their yards in an effort to be the first to get stuff from him.  So far, nothing’s been distributed, thanks to the flu he had the other day and the WooHoo excursion he took today.

* Toddler skilling milestones: Hasrah of the Icicle Eyes, Linus of the Brown Eyes, and Japhia of the Green Eyes “mastered” talking.  I haven’t decided yet what the penalties will be for failing to learn the toddler skills before aging up, but it will probably have something to do with assigning extra traits, like shyness if they don’t learn to talk, clumsiness if they don’t learn to walk, or slob if they don’t potty train.  I’m open to suggestions if you have any creative ideas, but I don’t think it will ultimately be necessary - I think pretty much all of them are at least halfway on every skill (except the youngest, Tzivia, of course), and they still have a day and half before their birthdays.

* Word on the street is sims are extra susceptible to falling in love lately, and the Creator might be locking everybody down on ACR settings for a while until things cool off.

*  There is still no bread.  But a couple days ago Tobiah told Pallu he knows where some is, and Pallu needs a new direction to explore in...
