Winging It

Here's a little piece I did of Peter Pan turned into a fairy, annoyed at having to get used to his new winged form.

I remember sleeping in the tree house.

My little "bird house" was hanging by where Peter would sleep up in the branches.

The wind would blow, and it would sway. I couldn't keep it as a house but it was a nice little bedroom. I had a tiny pillow in there for a bed. Scrap from Dad's jacket for a blanket. I made pillows out of little puffs of cotton and sheets/pillow cases out of one Jacks shirts. He was so mad.

I remember on nights Peter had come back from being gone. I'd sleep on the pillow beside him as he told me all the stupid things he did.

We would watch the sun set from there. The wind would blow, and my house would rock. It always smelled warm and like fruit and flowers. Apples, mainly. I didn't sleep often, but I had the best spot for when I did.

While the boys would sleep, I'd work on things. I'd clean up the messes. I'd have muffins or something for them in the morning.

Cookie and I made sure the kids always had more than enough to eat. Even though he was sometimes an asshole about it.
