In my opinion, Rukia being settled and having a family is nearly a prerequisite for Rukia assuming captaincy. That or some other significant event for her, which I don't know the shape of at the moment. In canon, it's only when her child is more grown that she actually takes the title(10 years after the end of the war), so she remains acting captain for a long time even if fully compliant. I would suggest by default that you assume she's lieutenant but fully assuming the responsibilities of an acting captain of the thirteenth if wanting to do something post TYBW. If you say post-TYBW I'm usually picturing this length of time.
OR if you want full captain Rukia, just remember that you are adding at least a 10 year gap for her to take up the rank... >3> I'm open to other ideas on discussion as well, just talk to me on them so we're on the same page.
Not noting this because I want to avoid the verse where she's captain. it's the opposite really. I think this point is very interesting, and want to get into the headspace of her here and what leads up to this more so. It's really more of an invite because I want to detail out before she makes captaincy and her headpiece and ten years is lot to fill in for my brain and I know there are significant things that happen before that point I want to fill in.
Some headcanons on her and captaincy:
She will actively respond to Captain Rukia, and or Kuchiki-taichou even while just acting captain, but make fun of you on getting your eyes checked or something.
With the passing of her captain, she's very reflective and actively refuses the title or pressure to take the rank. In her heart is some uncertainty in her life's direction, and some thoughts on making the most of life, where that takes her is open though. I don't think it specifically needs to take the shape of canon, but it is some kind of journey or change in focus for her. She's stops just looking at what's in front of her and maybe even looks back and beyond.
Her absolute first priority after thousand year blood war is looking after what remains of her squad. She knows she's now the highest officer that remains for them to look towards after they've lost someone who has been there so long and was important to so many. More than herself, she puts her squadmates first and will shut down and hide her own grieving or emotions to look after them and be the sign of strength that they can lean on.
She attends meetings in place of a captain for the thirteenth while acting captain.
Rukia still thinks she has a lot to learn, on leadership, and particularly on her bankai before taking on the full role of captain.
You could change my mind with a good thread on it or maybe have the right person talk to her, but this is my current mindset, until something makes me think different ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Anyways if you use straight jackets and other forms of restraint, padded rooms, in your art etc as someone who has not experienced this form of psych abuse I really really need you to tread lightly. I need you to be fucking respectful about it. If I see it used as a throwaway aesthetic choice or god fucking forbid as a JOKE one more time. I will set shit on fire.
I need you to understand that this is one of the worst things that can be done to someone, that it completely breaks you down. It is generally paired with isolation from other patients, sometimes In special rooms, sometimes stereotypically "padded" (though in real life I've only ever seen thick carpet being used, not whatever exists in those movies).
Really think about what it would do to you to be tied down in an empty room, no clocks, no indicator of time passing aside from the steps you hear coming down the hallway sometimes. Are they having lunch? Are they having dinner? no humans around you majority of the time, the nurses just checking on you through a window that you often cant see them through. They might be painted pink, or purple, etc, meant to "calm" you. It doesnt. It makes you lose your mind. You cant even fucking scratch your nose. There is nothing to fill the time. No reading. No listening to music. No connection to anyone who might help you. You can scream for hours, but you often quickly learn that the more you scream the longer they will keep you there like this. The most human reaction to this treatment is seen as proof of your insanity and as a need to prolong this treatment.
that it is often used to break you into compliance with whatever other fucked up shit they want to force on you. You dont want to take your meds? Well we cant legally force them down your throat (at least in some places I guess) but we CAN tie you down for a shit ton of time and the only way we will let you go is if you "consent" to taking your meds.
Your OC, your fucking blorbos, whatever, laying in a padded room tied up might be funny to you, isnt it so hilarious that they're (treated like) "one of those crazies". Look at this funny picture hihi. Sitcoms use this shit too. Psych ward, padded room, restraints, cue the laugh track.
But as one of those crazies we can usually tell when you want to actually depict our suffering and recognize it as such, give it the gravity it deserves. and when you only see this intense abuse as a funny thing or an aesthetic. And both are absolutely disgusting. Is this necessary? Is it worth more than preserving our dignity after the fact with treating our trauma with the seriousness and weight it deserves?

I haven't seen a lot of coverage in the news about this, but my state has just advanced legislation on a bill that would criminalize trans bathroom use in publicly owned buildings. this could mean up to 6 months in jail and up to $1000 in fees for those convicted.
most alarming aspects of this bill:
-"publicly owned buildings" include airports, schools, libraries, government offices, some hospitals, and most terrifyingly AND explicitly within the bill, domestic violence shelters and rape crisis facilities. transgender people, who are estimated to be almost 4 times more likely to be victims of violent crimes than cisgender people, could become criminalized in the very spaces they seek out to shelter from abuse.
-on that note, the bill potentially threatens federal funding of already-underfunded domestic violence and sexual assault facilities. to recieve federal grants, facilities are required to follow nondiscrimination laws. this law could place the facilities in danger of losing the grants they rely on. this is severely going to impact victims' abilities to access critically needed services.
-the bill legally defines "sex" in a way that has a lot of potential impact across state legislature. according to the bill’s text, HB 257 would legally define a female as “an individual whose biological reproductive system is of the general type that functions in a way that could produce ova,” and a male as “an individual whose biological reproductive system is of the general type that functions to fertilize the ova of a female.” this could effectively end the state's legal recognition of trans people.
-the bill demands that trans people who DO use bathrooms in publicly owned buildings must have undergone both gender reassignment surgery and have had their birth certificate changed. this has several issues, obviously, but the biggest one I want to highlight is that this opens the door to potential genital inspection by law enforcement if someone is accused of being transgender in a bathroom. in addition to any other indignities suffered by being harassed by cops when trying to use the restroom, it is completely possible for law enforcement to now demand to see whether someone's genitals are in compliance with these laws. it's an unconscionable and humiliating invasion of privacy.
-the bill requires trans students to develop a "privacy plan" with their school in order to arrange access to unisex spaces. if unisex bathrooms are unavailable, the student can be granted access to a sex-designated space “through staggered scheduling or another policy provision that provides for temporary private access.”
-the bill allows the state’s attorney general to impose a fine of up to $10,000 per day on local governments that don’t enforce the bill. in essence, any government that isn't sufficiently committed to enforcing these draconian laws may face massive fines until they have reached the attorney general's standard of enforcement.
this is one of the most unbelievably severe anti-trans laws that have ever been proposed in the united states. it would effectively ban trans people from participating in public life, harm nearly every single victim of domestic violence and sexual assault who seeks services in the state, enforce criminality on random trans people in bathrooms, and open every single person who could be potentially accused of being trans up to a wave of harassment and discrimination from both private citizens and law enforcement. I'm not being hyperbolic when I say that this law would literally force me and my transfemme fiancee to flee this state.
the law's been fast tracked to an insane degree through the legislature. similarly to the anti-dei bill currently making its way through, it's only been a week since it was introduced, and it's already passed the house, and is now up for vote in the senate. if it passes both sets of votes, the only thing left in its way is the governor's decision to veto.
please share this post. make as much noise as you can. if you live in utah, please call and email your district senator as soon as possible. it doesn't matter how late you see this. the bill is up for vote this week (1/23/24 at the time of writing) and we need to do whatever we physically can to protest its passing. we've already moved past the opportunity for public comment on the bill, but a few organizations have called for a rally at the capitol steps on thursday (1/25/24) at noon. if you are in the salt lake area or are able to make it there, please consider attending. wear a mask and bring a sign. we are stronger together.

We're all familiar with the DP×DC trope of Danny telling Jason he freaking reeks but I raise you this.
Jehovah's Witness Danny
Now he's not actually a Jehovah's Witness. No, he was just tasked with seeking out liminals to ensure their health as the only galfa with some sense; aka the only halfa the Observants could get away with strong arming into doing it. Dani was too young and far too unpredictable, Vlad was a mess, and the less said about Dan the better.
So, Danny. After accepting the role with all the grace of a cat being dragged screaming into a tub of water he set out to check on all the liminals listed. In order to cheer himself up Danny decided he would partake in the best form of cooperation he could.
Malicious compliance
That's how he found himself inside a cave staring down a set of massive steel doors. The ecto signature tracking on the paperwork had led him here. He raised his fist and knocked; imbuing the knock with some ectoplasm to make sure it was heard. His haunting lessons were paying off.

Jason sat bored in the cave. Bruce had everyone working with Constantine to track some mysterious entity that had popped up in Gotham.
Constantine had felt a huge spike in death energy in the city and teleported over with a quickness Jason wasn't aware the man had.
Jason was preparing to head back home when a knock rang through the cave.
"What the fuck?" Dick whipped wildly towards the cave entrance where the knock had sounded from. No one should even be able to have found the entrance.
Tim was at the BatComputer in record time pulling up the cameras. Outside stood a teenage boy.
"Hello. Do you have time to talk about the fate of your immortal soul?"

I just love the idea of them looking at the cameras and Danny's just;
WHERE WILL YOUR SOUL GO WHEN YOU DIE? ARE YOU SAVED?
