𝟭. set SMART goals ( 📒 )
make sure your goals are specific, measurable, actionable, realistic and time-bound. this will help you maintain focus and track your progress over time. how many times has it been you and your unrealistic to-do list against the world? well, it seems that a mile-long to-do list is not a good ally at all. remember that you are a person and not a machine, and that just dedicating four hours to deep work and concentration is A LOT. be kind to yourself and don't overload yourself with more work than you can humanly do.
𝟮. daily planning ( 🧸 )
mea culpa because i'm the first one who doesn't plan their day. to-do lists generally stress me out and make me feel overwhelmed as if i don't manage to complete all the tasks an asteroid will end up hitting the earth. but i recognize that it is a good starting point. sometimes i have too many things to do and i end up doing nothing in total confusion, but having at least a general list to follow gives me more motivation. moreover do we want to talk about the dopamine released when you tick an empty box? marvelous. maybe don't write down tasks that are too onerous and demanding, break them into several smaller tasks, also try to write simple activities such as "drink a glass of water" every now and then. having these low-commitment activities will help you stay motivated while completing more important tasks.
𝟯. reverse-engineering method ( 🪴 )
start with the end goal and work backwards to plan the actions needed to achieve it. this helps you maintain clarity on the steps to take and focus on the most relevant actions. the best thing to do is plan based on the time available and do your best to stick to your daily goal.
𝟰. timer roulette ( ⏳ )
choose a task from your to-do list and set a random timer between 15 and 45 minutes. work on that task with all your concentration until the timer goes off. this helps you fight procastination and keep your mind fresh.
𝟱. mind mapping time ( 📍 )
before starting a study session, take a few minutes to create a mental map of the subject you need to cover. this helps you see connections between concepts and organize information more effectively.
𝟲. task batching ( 🫒 )
group similar tasks together and tackle them in batches. for example, reply to all emails in one session rather than doing so at scattered times throughout the day. this helps you reduce transition time between tasks and maintain focus. contrary to popular belief, human beings are not truly multitasking (only a few possess this great ability) and when we do multiple things together we do nothing but shift our attention from one task to another, greatly reducing the quality of our performance. if possible, try to avoid these switches that are harmful to your focus and concentration.
𝟳. the pomodoro method ( 🍅 )
okay, y'all probably already know this one because it became so popular in the last year but if you don't, the pomodoro method is a time management technique developed by francesco cirillo in the late 80s. it is based on the idea of working for short periods of time, usually 25 minutes, followed by a short 5 minute break. after four rounds of work, a longer break is taken, usually 15-30 minutes. this technique helps improve concentration and productivity, as it breaks down work into manageable tasks and offers regular breaks to rest and regenerate energy. i personally prefer the 50/10 ratio while i'm studying but you decide which time ratio is better for you, i find it really useful and it helps me a lot while i'm studying for my exams.

20.12.23, wednesday
My main hobby is just procrastinating in any way I can. The plan was to make a cup of coffee and then start working. What actually happened is that I watched a 3 part video series (by james hoffmann ofc) on Aeropress coffee and made a few cups with different variables. Still not sure if I found The Recipe for me, but it’s getting better (tho I don’t love the coffee beans I have)

the switch from worry for sam to appealing.. oh he knows how to fuck him up so perfectly tailored for him
#sam was vulnerable and knowing dean loves him so he doesn't want the demon thing could have cut things a lil more short than#sam knowing dean hates him which leads him to be borderline destructive while the former keeps him grounded#but to give dean his dues he did try every single tactic in the book to try to stop sam: forcing reasoning rationalizing#finding middle ground locking up threatening bargaining pleading#he was on a roller-coaster#we're witnessing the blueprint in swaying sam im seated#ruby should've stuck around to watch how a real sam master manipulator operates#he has sam so wrapped round his finger he told sam he'll kill him (faked voice note) and still managed to have sam choose him over ruby#who coddled up and manipulated sam to hell and back#the genuine concern about sam here is astonishing in how effective it is#violence (panic room) didn't work#so dean resorts to appealing to sam and whether this is authentic or dean's own brand of manipulation that I know he occasionally works up#it's still the most effective method so far. I feel like dean could genuinely have gotten through to sam#if he was just himself and poured his heart out wrt sam since early on but dean most of the time was too prideful to concede#it was an 'im protective and im worried about you' issue (this is half of the actual reason the other half is his own possessiveness)#rather than a 'morality/humanity descend' issue and appealing to angels and god to play on sam's faith.#once again dean tries several mental gymnastics to get his point across when#if he was straightforward it could've worked on sam from the get go because he himself carries weight to sam like no other#samdean#mine#spn meta in tags#sam winchester#dean winchester

Image ID: An ink drawing of Kolt, naked, from the whump series Fallen. He is bruised and looks away as the chain attached to his collar is tugged. He is inside what appears to be a cell, with multiple eyes on the walls watching him intensely. /end ID.
Ok, so, I tried to do this like two times and it took me a while to lay the sketch. I had an idea for what to do--i went to give the series a shot, once i noticed this buddy here is a part of one so i could get better context--and so the idea i had was for making something from his villain days! It appears that Kolt as a villain was very intriguing (at least for me) but I couldn't make a sketch I was satisfied with, so I decided to go more whumpy! I remember a part where Kolt is in his recovery and he remembers when multiple people were watching and mocking him....couldn't get this over my head. Overall, I haven't finished it yet, but Fallen is a great series! They write it so well!

I am about 18 pages into the introduction of Winters in the World: A Journey through the Anglo-Saxon Year by Eleanor Parker, and am happy to report that not only does she cite references properly (and explains in the preface that some of the translations are her own work and that's why they don't have citations), she has also managed, in 18 pages (of merely the introduction!) to make a better case against the myth of the Dark Ages, without trying to make that exact point but merely as the result of discussing things like calendars and such, than the authors of The Bright Ages did in the entire 3/4 of the book that I read before I finally decided I had better things to do with my life and threw it aside.

I got an idea for one of those talk about your characters prompts:
How would your Commander/other GW2 characters react to being stuck in a time loop?

I made a Lonnie/Double Trouble playlist for the She-Ra Crackship Weekend event! (Some songs have suggestive, explicit, or potentially challenging/offensive lyrics.)
I originally made it to figure out the mood and dynamic for the ship (which I think is more of an extremely rare pair than a true crackship, but as soon I thought of it I knew I had to go for it). However, to no one's surprise, I didn't have the time or headspace to actually write anything for it. So I'm sharing the playlist and you'll just have to take my word for it that the Lonnie/Double Trouble romance story I made up in my head to go with it was GREAT.
Here's the gist of the story, for interest or as movie-in-your-head inspiration when listening to the playlist:
The two of them begin an affair (they'd just have to bump into each other, let's be honest) and it quickly gets complicated. Lonnie, who values community at the cost of freedom, and Double Trouble, who values freedom at the cost of community, are drawn into late night debates about the merits of their respective lives and choices, which become heated arguments as their affair goes on longer than expected.
This eventually leads to rebellious discussion as they realise how fucked up the systems they live in are, and consider that maybe they can burn them to the ground to make way for something better. But will having the other one by their side give them sufficient courage to leave the safety of their fucked up but familiar worlds??
I may have accidentally started shipping them in earnest...

it took me literally all day but I finally finished my second needlepoint
Tumblr media
[ID: A small needlepoint project. It depicts a blue chicken from Stardew Valley on a light blue background with a very dark blue border made of a binding stitch. The project is a bit smaller than 2 inches by 2 inches. The border is slightly uneven. End ID.]

having just finished the prophecy arc in valhalla the decision NOT to make eivor a hidden one is more baffling to me than ever - were they worried that they were retreading ac4's plot or something? because the groundwork is there!! it's all there!! her entire story is about how the search for glory to the exclusion of all else is ultimately meaningless and it's more important to love (and be loved by) the people she cares about! and all of that is encapsulated in the prophecy arc right at the end of the game: eivor turns away from odin and rejects his desire for her to become just like him, craving glory, to be the last one standing. she stabs him with her hidden blade (!!) that was given to her by basim and hytham (the former still being her friend for all intents and purposes here!) and turns to her friends and family, including hytham front and centre. she embraces her father and shares a tender moment with him after spending her entire life abhorring his legacy and thinking that making it right was all that mattered! even when the hamtunscire arc begins she says she's going to join guthrum because she owes it to her clan and her people - not just because she wants the glory. this would evolve so naturally into her seeing the hidden ones as a better cause, acting in the shadows without credit for the betterment of others (including her clan), which are qualities she snubs at first but clearly still values and appreciates when you consider her conversation with hytham in the last chapter. it makes sense! it's all there! WHY

i've been so online lately, hardly scheduling posts as i usually do because tbqh i needed all the distraction i could get. but i'm kind of sick of it. And very very tentatively celebrating that these medications do actually seem make the most acute symptoms go away so...perhaps the urge to write 359303 posts and look at 2838 pictures a day will recede. 🙏🙏🙏 also hopefully so will the medical stuff.

the question of how strong Dexter is is actually kind of hard to answer. he’s a very physically active person, both for his job and because he enjoys it, when he’s healthy. but he’s also frequently ill. not always to the point where he has to stay in bed for multiple days, but being sick does obviously limit your strength and endurance even if you aren’t bedridden.
and then there’s the question of what being healthy actually means. being a little bit sick all the time is kind of his baseline. being not sick at all is amazing but very rare. so measuring himself against those days is neither fair nor accurate. on an average day, I’d still say he’s pretty strong! but I think that question of “how much better could I be if I wasn’t constantly sick?” does linger in his mind.
