Throughout our entire adolescence women will be adultified. Told that we are ‘more mature’ than our male peers. More responsible, more reliable. We’ll be given tasks and responsibilities that are not expected of our brothers and barely expected of our fathers. The oldest daughter will start to clean and cook and take on child care duties for siblings. We listen to mother’s emotional outbursts of pain because ‘we just get it.’
And when a sixteen year old starts dating a man who’s been out of high-school as long or longer than she’s been there, this rhetoric can be used as justification. “Well she’s actually more mature than he is” her mother titters with a laugh. “He’s the only boy on her level” her father says sagely.
And I ask; how is the sixteen year old girl ‘more mature’ than the adult man who has years worth of life experience, the right to vote, drive a car and purchase liquor? What experiences, privileges, rights or understandings does the high schooler have on this man?
The answer is nothing she is simply more mature by virtue of being female. And isn’t that just so convenient for predatory men.
Why do girls mature faster than boys?
We don’t
Men just need a reason to justify expecting and extracting more from us earlier on in our lives.

tgcf book spoilers, but one mu qing and xie lian snippet that I think about a lot is this one, at the start of xie lian’s second banishment when he’s surprised to hear mu qing being described as generous and kind:
Tumblr media
as opposed to this memory from before his first ascension when mu qing started giving out cherries to the kids in the city:
Tumblr media
I think it just really goes to show 1) how deeply mq’s actions truly affected xl and what he thought of him, but also 2) just how different mq and xl are fundamentally in the way that they think and approach things.
I don’t have a lot of commentary on xl that hasn’t already been said, but bc we get the story from xl’s pov, we see a lot of mq’s actions being framed as selfish or suspicious (which is fair, bc again, we know how much his actions hurt xl), but we also see a lot of misconstrued kindness, like in book 8 where it’s revealed that he knocked out fx in order to save him. it’s also pretty obvious how much mq still cares abt xl, with how quickly he volunteers as fu yao and the lengths he goes to protect him when he deems hc a threat, so I also think it’s very likely that mq leaving the trio first was exactly what he said it was — that he thought becoming a junior official, ascending quickly, would be the best way to take care of not just his mother, but also xl, fx, the king and queen, and himself, and so in a way, him leaving was him acting on his kindness. but ofc it doesn’t work out, and he spends the next 800 years fighting w/ fx about it, defending himself, his decisions, and his kindness, and nitpicking the accuracies of his statues while he himself remains completely misunderstood by the two people he probably cares abt the most.
and idk, I guess I just think that’s probably a really lonely way to spend 800 years.

Thought too long about Hermoine daughter of Meneleus and Helen and got sad
#wren rambles#greek mythology#the iliad#the odyssey#i am actually not 100% sure what stories shes in#but i got interested at her mention in the odyssey and then read her wiki page#girl lost BOTH her parents for 17 years when she was 9#grew up probably raised mostly by Clyemnestra which. no one wants.#her parents finally came back from troy and their re-honeymoon in africa#and three years later shes send off to marry Neoptolemus#an agrragement her father made during the trojan war#(now marriage customs were different ans this arragement would have been normal.#and she doesnt seem to hate the idea [though her opinion isnt mentioned] so it could just be a normal marriage agreement#however it IS Neoptolemus. who is often portrayed as brutal and violent.#tho idk what hes like outside of war. anyway. happiness of the marruage aside#its probably a shock to be Nine Years Old and then when youre solidly in your 20s your dad comes back abd is like MARRIAGE TIME)#and THEN Orestes and Neoptolemus fight over her and she marries Orestes (her cousin. but again. ancient greece)#just. most of that generation of kids lost only their father#some perminantly#telemachus for 20 years#most for at least ten years#but Heromine lost BOTH her parents#lost the relationship with her MOTHER which the vibe i get was SUPER valuble#(if Demeter's attitude is anything to go by and the cultural vibe of mother-daughter relationship)#helen even did cite that she was a foolish creature for leaving her husband and beloved daughter#ALSO Hermione not having any full siblings means something to me#idk just. Helen's only daughter. left behind.#Helen's only CHILD left behind

I fucked up, I thought about Garmawhore and how funny the thought is and now I have accidentally created an illegitimate son from a three-way he had once that has just as much family issues and trauma as the rest of the spinjitzu family.
What is wrong with me.

I think my mom doesn’t understand that people grow apart sometimes and that’s okay
#og#so there’s this kid#shes my neighbor from before we moved#and I mean by that that her house was Nr 1 at the top of the hill and mine was Nr 14 at the bottom of the hill#(it was a cul de sac kind of street)#and when we moved there the people there had a daughter that was a year old so between me and my sister#so as new parents do our parents immediately befriended each other so we pretty much grew up with that kid as a third sibling#except that she got a sister that was three years younger than her#and from that day forward whenever we met up it was four of us#And my sister and the bigger girl would be paired up#And I had to hang out with the baby#which. It was not fun. For so many reasons#but especially because I was just so bored and this kid was clingy and difficult and overwhelming and you couldn’t really….. play with her#and any time I tried to get the four of us to play together they’d still do the teams thing#And obviously we’d lose and I’d get blamed#so it goes on like that for about eight years which is when we moved away#And since then my mom has been prodding and pushing me to keep being friends with a person I was never friends with in the first place#MOM. SHES NOT MY FRIEND GOD DAMN IT#we’re in that awkward in between stage where I know her so I can’t really ask any questions about her bc I know the answers#but I don’t Know her so I don’t have anything to talk to her about#And she just expects me to do the talking even though she’s the one that wants to be friends#I would argue that it’s because she’s a kid but I get on great with much younger kids all the time#fuck. Being in courses with people I don’t know has shown that I’m not that bad at socialising at all#It just makes no sense to me to try with this kid

Another protest against femicide ignored by American media
Naima Said Salah in Mogadishu Tue 13 Feb 2024 02.00 EST

The deaths of three women in one week, all allegedly murdered by their husbands, has caused outrage in Somalia and sparked days of protests over the country’s femicide rates.
Police have named the suspects in all three killings, which took place in the first week of February, as the dead women’s husbands. Two of the victims were pregnant. Even in a country where – after more than three decades of conflict – death and violence are part of everyday life, there have been demonstrations in the capital, Mogadishu, with protesters holding up placards showing photos of Lul Abdi Aziz Jazira in her hospital bed. The 28-year-old had been doused with petrol and set alight. She suffered severe burns and survived in agony for seven days after being attacked.
Her brother, Amudi Abdi Aziz Jazira, said neighbours had heard a “ferocious argument” and later broken down a locked door to reach the badly burned woman and take her to hospital.
Jazira, 28, was a widow with six children when she met her second husband at the airport in Mogadishu where she worked.
“I thought they were a happy couple,” said her brother.
A police spokesperson, Sadiq Dudishe, said the suspect had gone to an area where there was heavy fighting between the government and the Islamist group Al-Shabaab, which has controlled much of Somalia for 17 years.
“This made it difficult to catch him,” said Dudishe. “The intense insecurity meant it took time for us to find and arrest him.” A man is now in custody in Mogadishu.
In the southern district of Qoryoley, Saleban Haji Abdi has been arrested and charged with stabbing 22-year-old Fus Mahfud Mohamed to death. He is alleged to have attacked his wife of seven years, who was pregnant with her fourth child, on 3 February.
Mohamed’s father, Mahfud Mohamed Haji, said disputes between the couple had been previously dealt with by their families through Somali customary law known as xeer.
“I consistently provided mediation using our traditional system,” said Haji. “But the arguments didn’t stop and eventually I distanced myself from them.”
He was unable to get to his daughter’s funeral because of the recent floods which had destroyed the roads.
Police claimed the time and location of the murder had been meticulously planned by the killer, who cut Mohamed’s body into pieces.
The third woman to die has not been named, but police allege a woman was shot by her husband in Lower Shabelle, southern Somalia.
On 4 February, another man was arrested in the town of Afgoye, near Mogadishu, outside his family home in possession of gasoline and matches. Police said neighbours intervened in what appeared to be an attempt to set his wife and children on fire.
The chair of the Somali Women Development Centre, Maryam Taqal Huseina, said protests would continue until there was justice for the three women.
“Women are expected to be silent in Somalia,” she said, adding that she thought these women were murdered in order to shut them up. “We are going to continue to make noise until there is change,” she said.
Huseina said many people, especially men, either supported or accepted domestic violence and other forms of abuse against women as part of everyday life.
“With the advent of social media, new forms of abuse are on the increase including girls being blackmailed after being drugged and filmed while they are being raped, sometimes by more than one person. Some of these videos are sold on social media platforms.”
The governor of Mogadishu’s Benadir district, Yusuf Husain Jimale, has promised that Jazira’s children will receive financial support but there are concerns the authorities are not doing enough.
There is no specific law in Somalia against domestic violence.
In 2018, a comprehensive UN-backed sexual offences bill was introduced but it has not yet been passed by parliament. In 2020 a new sexual intercourse related crimes bill was proposed, which relaxed current age restrictions to allow for marriage at puberty and legalise forced marriage as long as there is family consent.

So I've been seeing that OC asks thing that's been floating around by @yvesdot and decided to take a crack at it with Miriam, so fair warning, this will be a long post.
1: Doesn't really sleep with stuffed animals but absolutely would if given one. Miriam is incredibly fond of soft fluffy objects so I imagine she'd love to have one.
2: She should be able to take care of one, she's half dryad after all. Which is ironic considering she's half vampire. Has been known to be very fond of cats and pigeons, still very miffed that pigeons are considered dirty. Also could take care of a child, though she'd be a strict mother.
3: Miriam doesn't have a currently have a love interest aside from a joke ship, however she was with Carmilla (different from gonzo my version is more based on the book that predates Dracula) and she'd probably say "She's beautiful with the way her eyes can appear to be the colour of soil to the brightest of rubies. She is a soul like no other, sweeter than the sweetest strawberry and yet can be more vicious than the sharpest thorn. I gladly fight in her stead, wetting my blade with blood in her name."
4: Yes, yes she does. The only reason I don't put her in red more often is because otherwise she can look a bit too much like Alucard. Thankfully she's not as allergic to colour as he is lmao
5: If the situation demands it or she gets frustrated enough, the genes to be dramatic has been passed down. She will mostly give ones meant to kick men into gear due her history as a general, or she'll make a speech about the uselessness of fighting for nothing, a hollow thing in her eyes.
6: Person she always takes advice no matter what? Hmm, does it count if it was a dead man? Alive it would probably be Irons whom she trusts despite being older than him, dead the man who mentored her. As for person she never takes advice from no matter what would probably be Arthur or the pope, my gal hates the church with a passion.
7: In three words? Morally grey, wrathful, determined. For her, she'd describe herself as Godless, unnatural, and a bastard.
8: She likes puzzles, they're entertaining to her, loves the ones that you have to put together to make different shapes. A fan of mysteries as well.
9: empathizes with books, specifically the burned ones because it reminds her of herself and how humans try to get rid of her as well.
10: Probably when she was 212 because she'd have been with Carmilla at the time, who made her feel like a person and not an abomination of God.
11: Save, this woman only really uses money for bribes or when she needs to legally buy something like property.
12: Enjoys romance because she can dream for a little bit that she's normal and doesn't have to be careful with whom she interacts with
13: From her mother? How to make tea from Garlic flowers; from her father? To learn to be more okay with feeding and learn how to use her more vampiric abilities more effectively and efficiently.
14: Yes, this woman's guilty pleasure is garlic, she is also allergic to garlic. Fortunately it's the flowers she really has to worry about, and the garlic just gives her mild food poisoning.
15: Probably social functions that are just there to flaunt wealth and nothing more. Also thinks hunting for the sport of it is also a waste of time (and wasteful in general).
16: Honestly? She'd probably indulge a little in a fine dress, because she does like pretty dresses, but mostly would wear pants and more soft fabrics yet pretty fabrics with a lot of beading.
17: Yes, she is fond of them
18: tongue, all the way, might even playfully nip or get a fang "accidentally" caught on a lip.
19: Will study before tests, will wing it with interviews.
20: hurdy-gurdy, loves it to bits.
21: honestly? Betraying her, or otherwise being dishonest over a long period of time. Might just straight up eat her partner if they're abusive.
22: loves pet names, will default to ones from other Ukrainian or Romanian, usually the latter. Most used would be iubițel or iubi. Has been known to give nicknames to specific people, like Integra she might call Ursuleț or little bear.
23: Novelty, though she thinks she wishes for Stability, what she actually wants is to not have to worry about fighting or bloodshed for at least a century.
24: Honesty
25: Possibility, this woman might have grown tired of bloodshed, but she's not opposed to taking beneficial opportunities when she sees them.
26: A mix of both, admires talent, but admires effort more, for effort will turn into talent with enough time.
27: Vengeance all the way, this woman killed a man's entire family one by one before killing because he killed her lover, and before that was a killer of those who killed werewolves when she found them, sometimes going so far to kill members of the church. Definitely has a blood price sort of mentality.
28: She is the fixer upper, or she'd make them worse, no in between
29: Has a tendency to dream of the church or to dream of finding Carmilla's dead body or her mentor and his pack dead.
30: Probably raise Carmilla back from the dead just for a night, but knows better than to subject her beloved to that.

Y’know the tv romance we never see anymore? Not the ‘will they won’t they’ but the ‘they were basically confirmed in the first five episodes but the show has been going on for six years now and the show runners think if they actually let them become a couple the show will peter out and die bc they have no other conflict ideas so the impossible tension gets stretched and stretched and they have three one night stands that are never mentioned again and confess their love twice but by the end of the show they only get together in the last episode and it’s really frustrating and disappointing for everyone involved’
I mean. Today I see canonically queer characters labeled as queerbaiting bc they don’t get together fast enough.
