"Hey," Mari greeted Carmen, a hint of relief crossing her face at seeing the other brunette - the boisterous energy of the carnival wasn't exactly her thing, much more at home in a more...refined environment. But who didn't love a carnival ride? "Wanna go on one of the rides with me?" she asked, her tone sweet, nearly musical, as she suggested it, bumping her shoulder against Carmen's as she fell into step beside her - the movement subtle enough it could've simply just been her adjusting her stride to walk beside her.

Jacqui was sick of playing this game. And yet, when they got the texts - they didn't want to go, even if it would put a stop to it. But after those other texts, the rave, the run-in with Parker....they didn't want to risk it. Who knew was on the other end of these texts, whose path may have been instructed to cross Jacqui's this time? So they slipped away from the gala, grateful for their lug-soled loafters that made their steps easy to muffle as they moved towards the exit so they could make their way to the Commons. They were nearly there, turning a corner in the path when they nearly crashed into someone - Carmen and their path crossing...or was intersecting? "Shit, sorry," Jacqui said, their eyes darting between her and the building not too far away now. Should they ask - are you also responding to a mysterious text that summoned you in this direction? "I wasn't expecting anyone else out here."

Carmen may not have seemed like the type of person Cara was typically friends with, but she did like her. Even with the fact that she had gotten along with Greer as well. But as different as they were, this type of party was not the type that Cara really expected to see Carmen at. The echo of another party, nearly a year ago, flashed through Cara's mind when she spotted her. The school year waning, Carmen, Cara...and the last time Greer had shown her face.

An ominous memory, one that Cara brushed off as due to the annoying texts.

And maybe the fact that she was a little high. Paranoia, and all.

Determined to think about tonight, and not that other party, Cara flashed a coy smirk at Carmen as she shook of the guy she was dancing with to instead approach the brunette, her head angled towards a shoulder. "If I had known you were into raves, I would've been inviting you out with me more often," she said, arching up an eyebrow. "Unless..." Cara let her voice trail off, eyes boring into Carmen's, the dangling hook about what had brought Cara there waiting for her to grab it.

Coco let out an easy going laugh, unbothered by the implication - and most of the things that people would consider horror stories as far as college campuses went. With the exception of, you know, the things that had been going on this year. Missing people, stalking, anonymous blackmail, someone literally dying. Yeah, that was a bit much, to put simply. But also not what Carmen was referring to, at least at the moment. He was pretty sure, at least. “I think that’s just college for you,” he said as he shrugged, eyes running over the brunette sitting next to him for a moment, his eyes darting away for a split second when the full focus of her attention turned back on him. 

Their lips pressed together, Court humming as his head tilted towards one shoulder, a curl falling over his forehead with the motion. “Neither?” he said, voice lilting up as if waiting for Carmen to confirm his answer. “Definitely not secretly a genius, but also not exhausted. I definitely run on less sleep than most people,” he explained with a shrug, though Court surprisingly did get away with studying less than most of his peers. He never really realized that, though, content to study along with their classmates even if he didn’t have to, per say.

It was a fair assumption; that one was, at the least, less likely to be faced with intimacy in a public forum such as this. Not unheard of, simply less likely. And at least this was a space that was routinely maintained by the staff, unlike the dorm rooms that may be in dire need of a deep clean. "This place really is full of horror stories of every kind, isn't it?" It certainly hadn't turned out to be the picturesque and perfect place her father had made it to be.

The girl's head drops downwards, a soft laugh attempting to cover the nerves and exhaustion taking their toll on her, at this point, seeking to convince herself more than anyone around her. "I'm not sure that's the best way to begin studying." She quips, hazel hues (and focus) returning to him. "What about you? Aren't you exhausted by now or are you secretly one of the geniuses who doesn't have to open a book or stress over these kinds of things?"

Raffy bounced on his heels in front of Carmen door. He took a slow deep breath as he ran over his story in his head. It was so stupid but he just wanted some excuse to be around her. “My shower’s not running— or the waters not hot, would you mind? No. Hey so my shower is being weird and not heating up—“ he groaned and shook his head. Just do it. He knocked before he could stop himself.

Someone please tag this user if they’re on here ! But this is literally making my brain combust in combination with the other thread going around on here about how this show doesn’t start when Mikey dies or when Carmen first gets to Chicago it starts when Sydney first gets to the Bear. Sydney is the key to Carmy resurrecting his dream with his brother. He says it himself, “he wouldn’t do it without her, and he couldn’t”.

There were two things about Tejas Cantina that could be said and also be true most of the time; the music is loud but the owner is louder. Carmen was always quick to raise her voice, especially with the more rowdy patrons that meandered into the bar. The cantina certainly wasn't the cantina if there wasn't a loud litany of Spanish being thrown around.

And that litany of Spanish was currently being thrown at a very drunk patron at the bar. "Get out of my cantina you dense, irritating simpleton!" She practically screamed in Spanish, brown eyes shooting daggers even when the drunk was carried off by his disgruntled friends. She could barely tolerate sober tourists, she certainly wasn't going to tolerate the sober ones. Heading back towards the front of the cantina, she plastered a smile on her lips. "Welcome to Tejas Cantina. Would you like a table or will you be sitting at the bar?"

where: the lake party

after arriving, everything had happened so quickly -- from getting housing in town to finding a way to hearing about the lake party and being encouraged to go -- and carmen hadn't had a chance to talk to either of her siblings. she figured this was as good of a time as any, and so when she spots her brother, she feels oddly nervous approaching him. she hesitates before tapping his shoulder.

“I know. I remember my mom getting them for me before college. I always felt like a bratz doll in these. “ She took a deep breath. “I don’t know and I don’t know who to tell honestly. Sometimes I just wish my life wasn’t the way it was.”

"Yeah, they can be a real pain in the ass." She glanced over at the pair that she had chosen for her outfit tonight. "But they really make an outfit, I don't think I could ever wear flats to an outing." She smiled at her friend now. "Nothing but, what was with your weirdo texts to me the other day? Everything okay?"

I just watched the last episode of season 1. And I can’t help but wonder why does Carmy text Syd BEFORE opening the letter Michael left to him ?????

Hello! Sorry it's taken me a while to answer this, I wanted to give you my thorough interpretation of why Carmy texted Sydney first.

It's one of the biggest head scratchers of the season, and I'm not entirely sure my response will cover the entire scope as to why Carmy delayed opening Mikey's letter to him in order to text Sydney. For me, a sizeable part of the answer lies in the way Carmy dealt with his personal problems throughout the whole season.

He's been rightfully called out as avoidant when it comes to addressing other people's emotions, even his own. In the beginning of the season, it is stressed that he is avoiding his sister Natalie who has been trying to reach him ever since he took over The Beef. He won't stop working to acknowledge the feelings he has of losing his brother, but he's trying to be open to it. That's why he winds up going to the Al-Anon meetings. At first, he doesn't speak. He's only at the meetings to listen. But towards the end of the season, when he finally has his big speech, we see Carmy finally ready to talk about Mikey.

Now, how does this relate back to Sydney? I think the glaring thing about their connection is that he is always honest and open with her. Whenever he is upset, he tells her why. Whenever she's upset, Carmy tries to understand why. He always apologizes to her after a dispute and asks if they are okay, if she's okay. I think she's the only person at the restaurant that Carmy's felt comfortable enough to tell about his Al-Anon meetings. There is an implicit trust and respect Carmy has with Sydney (something that steadily grew over the course of the season), and that type of trust bypasses his avoidant tendencies, but not completely.

When he reaches his boiling point in episode 7 and lashes out at Sydney, I think he was too consumed with the to-go disaster to fully grasp what he'd done to drive her away. Sydney put up with a lot of shit that whole season, but the thing that completely pushed her over the edge was Carmy's behavior. And he knew that. But there is some time that passes from Sydney quitting to him finally texting her. In that little pocket of time is his avoidance. This is the first time in the whole season where Carmy doesn't apologize to Sydney in the same day. He avoids contacting her right up until the moment he is about the open Mikey's letter. Even when Tina asks what time Syd would be coming to work, Carmy avoids telling her that Sydney quit, almost like he doesn't want to acknowledge that truth.

Carmy finding Sydney's notebook before Richie gives him Mikey's letter is the catalyst that breaks his avoidance. The truth is plain in his eyes as he looks down at her braised ribs and risotto recipe. He deeply, deeply cares for her as a person and highly respects her as a chef. And I believe undoubtedly that being confronted with something so personal of hers was the wake up call for him to own to his awful behavior.

So when it gets to the scene where we are all expecting Carmy to open Mikey's letter and he doesn't, instead choosing to text Sydney, I believe that the moment shows how the connection he has with Sydney bypasses his avoidant tendencies. He's scared and not forthright with her at the beginning of his texts ("No acid") because he is still not sure how to be completely open, but texting her is the biggest step of him reaching out first to someone he really cares about.

Also, I must add that narratively speaking Carmy already atoned with Mikey at the beginning of the episode in his Al-Anon speech. If he'd had the letter before the speech, I don't think he would have texted Sydney first. And it's hinted throughout the last episode that Sydney was heavily on his mind (ex: a clip of him yelling at her when he's having his panic attack, "you're dressed like Syd," and him staring into her little notebook like it was her soul).

I hope this long ass post makes a little bit of sense. I'm not that great at putting all my jumbled thoughts together cohesively. The biggest thing I wanted to impress upon in this answer to your question was Carmy avoiding the people he cares about, avoiding the emotions that come with being open, and how Sydney is the one person he can't seem to hide from. He always wants to be open with her, he doesn't want to avoid her, even if that means getting out of his own way.

After Carmen had rolled up her yoga mat and shoved it back into the bag, she lifted her hand to stifle an oncoming yawn. She couldn't help it, as her sister had coerced her into a morning yoga session well before she was normally awake. Though Carmen was being a little dramatic, she hadn't got much sleep when inspiration struck for a new project she was working on. "Please tell me that you get coffee after this, or else I am never coming to yoga with you again."

yes I have lowered expectations considerably for s6, yes I am aware that we're going to be getting something so incredibly silly that we may struggle to call it a plot (and if we do get anything resembling plot in the sense of "this follows on from previous development and makes sense to go here," I will cheer) but I have put on the clown everything, and I have acknowledged that about... 75% of my enjoyment of cobra kai at this point actually relates to the actors doing their fun little character-actor blur performances, and knowing that they all had a lot of fun doing this weird fanfiction.

will johnny ever acknowledge that he gave the trophy to daniel because he was happy that he won? will sam and tory get to interact once in the new season in a way not related to their badly-written boyfriend storylines? will robby ever get to have another complex emotion related to his father's abandonment and alcoholism, especially now that there's a (uuuurgh) do-over kid on the way? will carmen ever... will carmen? will terry silver ever get to say that he is gay and so are the rest of them?

honestly at this point I don't even care anymore I have found the peace needed to watch it, and I'm just in it for the vibes of a bunch of friends having a good time.
