fic idea: because of the circumstances around Clark’s birth, he’s hardwired into a lot of Kryptonian instincts that have been dormant in the previous generations of Krypton. namely, those aligned toward the protection of children (bred out long ago because it was too “distracting” and “painful” on Krypton, where fewer and fewer children were being born).

Superman always saves children first because of this, but he never fully recognizes the instinct until he watches Batman protect and calm down a child after a fight. Kryptonian instincts flare fully into life, as a mature adult with a prospective mate within the vicinity.

cue Clark following Bruce around starry-eyed, unable to help himself around a man with 8+ children he clearly, quietly, adores and a penchant for encountering injured and scared kids in his line of work. and as Bruce Wayne, who seems to have a kind of magnetism to him that leads kids at galas to him and sullen pre teens dragged along to cocktail hours to his side during networking.

Nikolai loves touching Price whenever he can. He has been waiting so, so very long to finally have him, and he is going to make up for lost time.

It can be as simple as gently placing his hand on his waist to guide him as they're entering a room, grabbing his hand for support to help him jump off his chopper, or tracing circles with his index against the back of Price's hand while they're eating a quick lunch together.

Sometimes, Nikolai will be bolder, grabbing the inside of John's thigh with his large hand as they're sitting around the same table during a meeting, squeezing it and watching Price tense up for a second, before letting go. Other times, he will sneak a hand under John's T-shirt, the palm of his hand moving up his back, feeling him shiver under his touch, letting go before anyone else can see.

Even when they're in the middle of an op, Nik will grab any opportunity to touch Price. Gently raising his chin with his fingers so that John's eyes can meet his before telling him good luck, handing him a gun and having his fingers brush against John's, lingering for a second too long while winking at him, or grabbing John's hat after it flew away and placing it back on his head and tenderly but briefly caressing John's earlobe between his fingers after doing so.

With the life they lead, those stolen touches can sometimes be all he gets for weeks before finally having John all to himself in their bedroom. There will be time, then, to show him the extent of his love for him. In the meantime, those touches will have to do.

a concept, brought to you by my love of bruce whump + batfam meets the jl fics, and no small amount of irritation that bruce seems to be the only one taking project cadmus completely seriously in jlu:

bruce has to call in the rest of the batfam (dick, tim, cass, and steph - jason hasn’t come back yet which also means no damian) for some battle or catastrophe or something, and the justice league is super excited to meet his ‘associates’, so afterward they’re all kind of jabbering questions at the batkids, but bruce, who is paranoid, traumatized, and hasn’t slept in three days, throws himself between his kids and the league in flat-out terror (bc if the jl could kill him without thinking about it, his babies don’t stand a chance). maybe j’onn is the only one who recognizes why batman is projecting ‘one more step and i’ll rip your throats out with my teeth’ which somehow leads to the revelation that batman is a baseline human and maybe makes the jl consider why ‘we’re the good guys’ is not much of a reassurance for world governments.

(‘i’m scared of what you could do if you lost control bc i know exactly what you’re capable of. imagine what someone without that knowledge would think, and remember that humans are very good at coming up with/planning for worst case scenarios’)

I always think of Bruce seeing Clark or Diana reaching to shake Dick’s hand (Robin Dick, or even freshly Nightwing) and literally throwing himself in front of Dick because sure, Diana broke his arm the first time she shook his hand but that wasn’t her fault, she didn’t realize he wasn’t a meta and Bruce never corrected her. but. she’s about to do the same thing to Dick and no one knows what’s about to happen except Bruce—
