Recently I’ve read the house in the cerulean sea and I loved it SO much!!! I couldn't stop thinking about them so I HAD to make a least a sketch of these lovely characters who have my entire heart

So I was drawing chauncey because he's a dear and my father looks over and says "what the hell is that" and I get VERY offended and say "first of all, 'that' is a lovely child. Second of all his name is chauncey and you will refer to him as such and third of all, he is very kind and is going to be the best bellhop to ever grace this earth! Is that understood?"

Something came over me I have never spoken like that without like. Stammering or whatever.

Phee: Luci’s going to jail. I’m saying I was kidnapped.

Chauncey: Hey, that’s a good plan. You and I were kidnapped.

Luci: If I’m goin’ to jail we’re all goin’ to jail!

read the house in the cerulean sea, im normal. i drew this chauncey to thank my creative writing teacher for letting me borrow her copy (i have my own now, wehehe) but you guys can see him too

i LOVE the intimacy and love and hugs and kisses in this book.

like. thitcs is SO full of love but between arthur trying to not appear too close to the kids/seem like their father because he’s supposed to be the master of the orphanage and linus being literally a DICOMY representative we hardly see people hugging or like showing physical intimacy.

and now!! we have linus and arthur kissing all the time, zoe and arthur kissing each other on the cheek, helen kissing linus and arthur on the cheek or kissing her girlfriend on the mouth (sidenote i’m so happy to see more of these two). the kids hugging or cuddling or really just touching each other in some way like holding hands or leaning on each other. having sleepovers. the fucking cuddle puddle in linus and arthur’s room when the kids find out they’re engaged!!!! talia snuggled between them, phee next to arthur, chauncey on top of all of them. it’s so wonderful! we see phee and arthur have their moment in the gazebo and phee kisses arthur’s hand which is so sweet and then he becomes the phoenix and is poking at her with his beak and they fly together and fall asleep on the sandbar together! and then you have linus scooping lucy up and crying and peppering his face with kisses because he paid attention during fucking vocabulary lessons and lucy refusing to let go.

just. all the ways these characters showed love to each other was phenomenal in thitcs and i ate it up but now they can be even more open about it and it’s just wonderful. i love love!!!! i love found families!!!! i love this book!!!!

"This was hope; the children, love letters to a future that had yet to be decided."

this is going to be such a biased review because i love love love the THITCS universe with all my heart. arthur and linus and the children are so incredibly perfect!

i am always sceptical of sequels, especially when it comes to beloved books that are meant to be standalones first (looking at you aritotle and dante 🙄) so i was definitely very nervous going into this. somewhere beyond the sea being my most anticipated book of the year very much added to the pressure too!

i am so so happy to report that i loved this book as much as the first one (okay maybe not as much but it's very close!) david was such a fun addition to the house, he blended so seamlessly with the other children and it was just so incredibly heartwarming.

arthur's story is heartbreaking but it's also full of hope and joy and wonder. i do very much love that we got to see him and linus as a couple now, and as fathers!

i really do hope there's no third book though. with all the real world comparisons in this book, there's no way a third book would work (unless it's a spin off with one of the children). because that change is never going to come, not even if decades upon decades go by. it's never going to be a finished process as bleak as it sounds.

that being said, i got my son chauncey back and for that alone this book deserves all the stars in the world!

Yes, I wrote down all the songs mentioned in the book because I have no self control and I needed to dive into the book’s vibes completely. Still do. And I have found I love 50’s music! It’s not just the mentioned ones actually, as some by Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and some others are only mentioned without their songs being played, still I added them because they’re Lucy’s favourites. Read the book again and play the songs when mentioned: it’s a totally different experience. Hope you enjoy! 🌊💙🎶

Chapter Title: familiar faces

Summary: The group arrives in the city. While stuck in a traffic jam, they meet one of Linus's old co-workers.

CW: implications of fatphobia. There's nothing said outright and it's just one moment near the end of the fic, but it felt worth mentioning just in case.

okay now that I’ve finished the book he is much less of a damp sock and I sincerely hope he forever enjoys being gay married with several magical children in a house by the cerulean sea

I’m 30 pages in and Linus is the most pathetic wet rag of a man I’ve ever met. I adore him

Do you ever think about what the THITCS kids grow up to be? Here's what I picture;

Sal becomes an author who writes under a pseudonym and takes over the orphanage when Linus and Arthur get older

Chauncey starts as a bellhop (obvi) but makes his way up to be a hotel manager and is adored in the village

Thalia will be a kid for another 300 years (adopted by Phee after Linus and Arthur die) but eventually I think she'll open a public garden to share her love of gardening with others

Phee and Theodore stay on the island with Zoe

And Lucy ❤️ I image he's in the arts. I think he goes on to Broadway, at first just playing villains but eventually he plays heros and lead characters. And people are in awe of his voice and dancing and emotion on stage

I just imagine them all having really nice lives because Arthur and Linus taught them how to be strong enough to follow their dreams despite adversity

this is who i think the THITCS characters play as in mario cart. 

linus: mario - he is mario because he just is and that he doesn’t really care who he plays as

zoe: rosalina - she’d probably be like “oh she looks fun :)” and she’s also probably like really good at the game for no reason

lucy: king boo - need i say more?

talia: toadette - i have no evidence for this one she just gives off this energy

phee: daisy - okay phee plays to WIN. her and zoe just dominate i swear

chauncey: yoshi - i will take no criticism thank you and good night 

sal - shy guy and not because of shy guy’s lore but more because he looks kinda funny and this is sal’s only reason for playing as him

theodore: baby luigi - i have once again nothing to back this up

arthur: his Mii character - and i say this because i guarantee he was like “none of them look like me and i want to play as myself” and arthur does not understand the game whatsoever
