do you know what makes me go insane. just a little.
natasha after onslaught. if you don't know what the fuck onslaught is -- i would actually highly suggest not reading it but read what happens after because that moment is what (i feel) fundementally changed natasha's character as a whole to who she is today.
basically, the fallout of onslaught was that like, most of the avengers died. or at least the main ones, leaving basically only nat. and as nat had been leader of the avengers then, she (in classic survivors guilt fashion) blamed herself and went on a spree to bring all of the classic avengers foes to "justice".
and neglecting herself in the process....
these panels really speak for themselves (excuse the terrible quality and ugly ass nat design. i have no clue what they were thinking with this)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(from Daredeveil #361 btw)
it's just... so hard to see this and it's clear that she's blaming herself. you can even see it through the fact her hair has grown out from it's previous short style, showing how she stopped caring about herself in her pursuit to kill herself to honor her friends memories....
actually a comic that really encapsulates nat's pov is avengers annual '99, where jarvis explains how nat coped with the deaths of all those people.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it geniunely really hurts me as a fan of natasha who (as far as i now know) has read every single one of her appearances, to be able to see her change from a very bright eyed and bushy tailed sweet woman to a world weary and distrustful person. it hurts, but considering all the bullshit she's gone through, it makes sense

My opinion on Stolas might be a bit different from most people who openly voiced their hatred towards him.
Honestly I wouldn't say he's evil, but I also won't say he's a saint either. The guy just honestly needs a bit of a wake up call that yeah, he kind of was looking down on Blitz by calling him his little imp plaything and what happened in Ozzie's. To truly think about how the way he treated him and being called those things would lead Blitz to thinking that he doesn't love him.
And to be blunt... it seems more like he in love with falling in love. Let me in explain. The guy was trapped in an unhappy marriage where the only light in it was his daughter, so of course he might wanna look for an escape of sorts. Something akin to a knight in shining armor saving a princess from an evil witch, taking her on his steed and living happily ever after.
But the problem here that in pursuit of that fantasy, he's also neglecting Octavia. So what I'm hoping for is for the call out to come from her and that would be the breaking point for Stolas, that he really wasn't the innocent party in this as he thought to be and take the steps to truly improve and find a way to make it up to Blitz.
The thing is, that is exactly what Season 1 was trying to do. Season 1 Stolas was a man who made many mistakes that ended up hurting others, he was consumed by his own lustful desires and in the process he hurt the ones he cared about.
Part of what makes Loo Loo Land such a fantastic episode is that Stolas goes through some level of character development in that episode; he realizes that he made a mistake that hurt his daughter and, he decides to fix it by taking her to a place that she likes, even if he probably doesn't care for it.
It shows that he has more dimension beyond being a horny twink. Season 1 knew that Stolas wasn't a great person but it still gave him redeeming qualities to make him at least reedamable. I don't Season 2 Stolas (as a person) is irredeemable, but Season 2 really took everything that made Stolas interesting and threw it out the window.
The fundemental problem with how Season 2 is handling Stolas is the season's insistance of painting him as the vitcim in every situation he's in; I've said this many times before but it bares repeating; anyone who was hurt by Stolas' past actions is demonized by the narrative. Stella is turned into a one-dimensional bitch so Stolas cheating on her could make him look sympathetic. Octavia is told to cut her father some slack because he's "trying his best" even when the series shows us the exact opposite. And Blitz is told that he just hates Stolas for being a prince and is frammed as jaded and biased by the narrative even when he has no reason to think Stolas loves him given everything Stolas did to him in Season 1.
Every problem Stolas has as a character began in The Circus, where it decides to add in that "Stolas just wanted genuine affection and thought he had that with Blitz" thing, which came out of nowhere and directly contradicts what Season 1 first established, it's such a weird change in his character and feels completely different to what Season 1 gave us. It's a retcon because it doesn't line up with what was set up in the first season.
And this, in a vaccume, isn't even a terrible idea for a character, it could be interesting on it's own, but it contridicts what was previously established and turns Stolas into an UwU soft sad boy.
I don't really think that they are going to call Stolas out, at all. From what I've heard there are leaks that say that Octavia was tricked by Andre and Stella into hating Stolas, so he is now being frammed as a victim again.
Stolas had the groundwork for being the best character in the show but bad writting turned him into the worst. And at this point I don't think there's any fixing him at this point, it'll just come across and as too little too late.

I can understand the anti jonsa/jonrya/jongritte but I'm wondering about the jon/daenerys thing and if you don't mind I'd like to know why (asking as someone who only watched the show & wasn't bought by their dynamic)
It actually starts with the exact same problem as Ygritte's dynamic with him. Jon arrives at a place and is taken prisoner, his weapons are taken from him, he cannot leave of his own accord and has no way home alone, and he has no choice but to try and convince the people or person keeping him hostage that they should trust him. Only for the other person to develop an attraction, and whose dynamic can only be developed as long as Jon still is not allowed to leave or fight back. Only for it to go apparently romantic, when really, his situation has not changed if he resists.
If he is with Ygritte, and he shows signs of resistence or being against her cause, she and the others will kill him, and he knows it.
If he is with Dany, and he shows signs of resistence or being against her cause, she and her dragons will kill him, and he knows it.
Remember, when he goes beyond the Wall (gods protect me thinking about that episode), he literally has to leave by force because she still refused to give him "permission" to leave the island she's kept him trapped on for weeks. Their reunion is not romantic, and neither is them getting together. Up until a day ago, he was her prisoner and he still is at the mercy of her dragons.
If at any moment Jon truly resists her, she will kill him. There is not a single moment of their relationship where she didn't consider Jons life forefit if he didn't meet her exact expectations of total loyalty. Just like Ygritte did.
What it comes off to me, is that Jon has no interest in her whatsoever nor does he want to be with her, but he knows he is still her prisoner and even worse, she has dragons that could destroy his family and kingdom if she so chooses, if he stood against her. I think Jon realized Dany was interested in him, and realized that he was in a situation just like Ygritte. Trapped, and forced to play along much to the determent of his own mental health.
Jon is never not at Dany's total mercy if he displeases her.
Any time they get together it is clearly Dany summoning Jon, and one time it's very bad. Jon is extremely drunk to the point he can barley stand on two feet, and she is stone cold sober. She tries to get him to have sex with her, he resists and she still tries and it only ends because it turns into an argument about another topic all together.
If Jon was trying to convince a drunk girl telling him no, to have sex with him, we all know what we'd call that. What we'd call him. I do not consider Jon being a man, and Dany being a woman, to change that dynamic. Dany also has all the power of him as a Queen who forced him to bend the knee, and she has two dragons in his home that will kill him and anyone else she chooses whenver she wants.
Jon is literally unable to consent to this relationship at any point and the literal only way out he had, was to unironically kill her.
If you look through my anti jonerys tag you can find other posts I've made going into the details about why I think they do not work fundementally as characters in general, but I stand firmly against the show relationship for these reasons.
It's the same prisoner/abuse/rape situation as with Ygritte, but even worse, because Dany can and would use her dragons on him, his family, and his people if she decided Jon wasn't loyal enough anymore.
I don't think Jon ever wanted to be with her, in any way shape or form. But was forced to pretend to because he was her prisoner from the moment he stepped onto Dragonstone until the moment he killed her.
I think as for the books, they just do not work as a couple in even a functional manner and there is no hint that they ever even would become a couple in the first place and that shipping them in the books is pure jonsa style wish fufillment fanon.
Again, my anti jonerys tag has many posts about this topic since I've tackled it at many angles over the past few months if you're interested further in what I think!

on ghosts & desire, and why i think the reason he xuan became a ghost was not to have revenge on shi wudu...
hearing he xuan's actual backstory again surprised me, after i'd gotten used to how he's generally characterized in fandom. The way the misfortunes of his life transpire isn’t really this story of this person with mounting misfortunes that eventually broke him down into despair and resentment so intense he clung on after to death in pursuit of a revenge that would finally vindicate himself and his family…
what actually happens is he grew up very loved, and was respected for his great promise as a scholar, but those dreams are ruined by corrupt/jealous officials, and then ... he seems to just move on. and gets engaged to his childhood sweetheart. Then she and his sister are kidnapped and forced to be bed attendants, and when he tries to fight the kidnappers is framed for adultery and taken to jail. While in jail he is starved and given a permanent eating disorder that is still with him till his ghost king days (according to hua cheng), during this time his sister and fiancé die, as his mother does too, and by the time he gets out of jail his father was almost dead, and then - he … starts a successful business?! A business so successful his competitors conspire to sabotage him?? And THEN he goes on a killing spree to the delight and unwavering support of the entire town, and dies not of despair at all, but exhaustion. more than anything in life he seems to exude confidence and resolve to succeed, and live. He didn’t even seem to want to die by his final actions, more like he was trying to get this frustrating impediment out of his way so he could carry on in life to do the things he wants to do.
also i believe hua cheng tells xie lian that when he xuan dies, he didn’t know all the misfortunes of his life had been caused by shi wudu, or who shi wudu was. So he xuan couldn’t have become a ghost out of resentment of shi wudu or a desire for revenge against him. If intense feelings and longings at the time of someone's death attach their soul to the world and make them take the form of a ghost … for he xuan I think that feelings he is immersed in at the moment of death is an intense desire to kill, vent his rage, and make himself free…
Also it is very interesting that he xuan’s method of cultivation is eating and (maybe??) sleeping, acts that sustain life. It makes me think that the fundemental thing he xuan can't let go of that makes him a ghost is just life itself and the desire to live. In comparison, hua cheng’s "resentment" is his love and devotion to xie lian, and he seems to cultivate by acts of devotion and love to xie lian (all the statues in the cave on mount tong'lu during the time he most needed to raise his power to survive the kiln?).
The common fanon I see of he xuan is someone very very tired, who barely wants to be existing, as if he is just hanging on to get his revenge for the family he mourns, he finds no joy in anything, he is always externally miserable eating food and with the person he is commonly shipped with. (really i just think bb hates heavenly officials.) but his life story shows someone who is full of desire, who never stops trying to keep living, changing course each time his progress in one direction is denied, and always finds respect, love, prosperity in each area he pursues, and is only stopped by others purposefully sabotaging him.
He xuan is unlike the other victims of the Reverend of Empty Words, who would always be defeated “by the fear of loss in their own hearts” and die by suicide after breakdowns. although he xuan did die, he is described as becoming a steel plate in the Reverend's mouth that it broke its teeth on. The reverend never really got to feed on he xuan's negative emotions, which us the whole point of the curses. He never became overwhelmed by fear of loss, and he didn't want to die.
It’s especially interesting the different ways xie lian and he xuan deal with having a jinx monster attach to them. Xie lian wins against it by being impossible to feed on without really having any hopes for himself, and all the misfortunes the jinx monster comes up with are more like aspirations for xie lian compared to the expectations xie lian has for himself. In contrast, it’s like he xuan has such an abundance of hope and optimism he never stops trying to find a way to move past his suffering or fight back.
I've been thinking how much xie lian is told to suppress his desires and not do what he wants to do, from mu qing nagging him, to his guoshi cautioning against fighting the laws of fate ... and when he resists he is punished harshly. Until he meets hua cheng, who tells him to "just keep doing what you want to do." Part of their task as gods seems to be to suppress their desires, abide by customs and restrictions in order to not risk their position or even their lives. Mu Qing was often frustrated at Xie Lian ignoring all the social codes they have to follow and doing what he wants to do. If Mu Qing had done the same he wouldn’t have survived – and he ends up being proved right when Xie Lian almost doesn’t survive. Everything that Xie Lian feels genuinely called to do seems to end up condemning him and when Xie Lian resurfaces 800 years later he second guesses everything he wants to do, agonizes in his internal thoughts about all the things he says and does, and he seems to simultaneously be unable to stop himself from holding these unacceptable desires, but also completely at odds with his desires. I think that ghosts on the other hand are entirely about desire, and the ghost kings' superpower is desire. Once xie lian has hua cheng, its like hua cheng's power for desire is a shield that allows xie lian to do what he wants.
In this world resources are limited and you cannot create something out of nothing. When desires come into conflict with the laws of the universe, no matter what the characters try they can’t transgress it, but ghosts can. The rain that Xie Lian struggled so hard to conjure and sacrificed so much to maintain the balance for, Hua Cheng can make come down out of the sky as blood. He xuan feeds his hunger by devouring ghosts, while so often in the novel people cannot find food that isn't poisonous to nourish them. (And the meal at the end FINALLY where the beggars get their soup is COOKED BY GHOSTS OK!!!!!!!)

-To be continued-
What is your Undertale AU about?
- I just made some changes to the concept and story. Monoctale or Undermonoc; as the name suggests, is an AU where each character has a monochrome version of themselves, meaning a single color (black-white-shades of gray). Each character's monochrome version reflects differently in reality; a psychological distress experienced by the character can create their monochrome version, or a rare power deep within their souls can cause them to exist semi-physically, for example.
For example, the formation of the monochrome versions of some characters: Asgore: Asgore is a character with Multiple Personality Disorder in this AU. The way we separate him from the monochrome version is; We divide his name into two as "As-" and "-Gore". "As" is Asgore himself, the first and only personality that should exist in the body. "Gore" is Asgore's monochrome, aka his much more cruel version. Thanks to "Gore", Asgore was able to dare to take the lives of those little children. Making the barrier like this was actually "Gore"'s idea and "As" couldn't stop him and allowed him to carry out this cruel plan. At least the same thing didn't happen with Frisk. While "Gore" had killed other humans brutally, when Asgore was going to fight Frisk, "As" was in control and since he wanted Frisk to win, he fought in a way that Frisk could defeat him without using his real power, just like in the game.
Do you also have a Gravity Falls AU?
- Yes, but it was cancelled after Book Of Bill came out.
I got tired here, I'll add more as things come to mind.

Metroid Other M Part 6: Samus' weakness
Ok so this part is in Japanese, mainly because I had to record it again after the original video proved faulty (it had only audio but no video) so I thought to give it a change of pace of sorts, don’t look at me I had to technically replay this game twice for this
So we start off with might just be the single dumbest case of backtracking in the entire series: you make your way up a snowy hill and through a series of morph ball tunnels only to reach a room with a switch that you can’t hit due to an unbreakable window. The Wave Beam would be able to hit it, but apparently Lord Adam is asleep again so we gotta make our way back only to get ambushed by Zebesians trapping us in a glass cage. NOW Adam wakes up and allows use of the Wave Beam, meaning that NOW you get to go back the way you came from to hit that switch from before
This is the very definition of arbitrary, it’s so lazy and thrown together like they felt the need to check a box off a list. Oh Metroid games have backtracking? Well here’s some backtracking I guess! It’s so monotonous, you’re just retracing your steps with nothing to make the trip back shorter or more different, aside from there being a couple of electrified floors in the morph ball tunnel now. This is an actual waste of time
Wanna know what’s also a waste of time in this game?
Samus’ character
Yeah it’s time for the Ridley scene everybody, you all knew this was coming, we could only avoid it for so long
To put it simply there are essentially two main interpretations for this scene:
The most popular one is that Samus is suffering from a PTSD attack upon discovering that Ridley, murderer of her parents, is alive again
So many criticisms have been leavied against this idea over the years, but also some counter points
Some people say that she’s justified in having this panic attack because she was absolutely sure to have killed Ridley this time after Zebes exploded so this caught her completely by surprise. I don’t agree with this interpretation because she was also 100% sure of having killed Ridley after Metroid 1 yet upon meeting him again in Prime 1 (or, excluding Prime, Samus Returns/Super) she doesn’t react in any particular way other than trying to attack him with no hesitation
Some say that her not suffering from any episodes in the past doesn’t necessarily mean she wouldn’t now, especially by virtue of her more fragile mental state in this game, as PTSD attacks aren’t always consistent. I say that a story that features a seeming PTSD attack once and then never tackles the issue or even references it ever again probably isn’t very interested in giving a good portrayal of PTSD so I don’t feel like giving it the benefit of the doubt in the matter
And speaking of Samus’ mental state in this game
The other, somewhat more recent, interpretation for this scene is that it’s not supposed to be a PTSD attack at all, but rather Samus being violently reminded of her weakness as a person upon seeing that Ridley is still alive yet again despite her best efforts. This interpretation is supposedly present in the Japanese script. I say supposedly because I have not noticed any part of the script hinting at this, in fact I’d say that the scene does a pretty bad job at NOT looking like it’s featuring a PTSD attack given that Samus is quite literally hyper ventilating and losing control of her armor. But whatever, let’s go with this direction
Herein lies the fundemental issue of this scene, which is also the fundemental issue of this game’s story: the game is so laser focused on portraying Samus’ vulnerabilities as a person that it forgets to shows us her strenghts. It puts so much effort in breaking her down yet forgets to build her back up
See I don’t care about whether the Ridley scene is supposed to represent a PTSD attack or not. I don’t even particularily care about whether it makes logical sense to have it or not. My big problem is what this scene represents and how it’s basically a symptom of the big underlying problem
This game wants to humanize Samus. If you read just about any interview by Sakamoto about this game chances are he mentions something about this.
And that’s fine
Wanting to showcase the hidden vulnerabilities of a character that’s usually portrayed as being strong and stoic is not a bad idea, it can make the character feel like well...a character, a person.
The issue is that when you put so, SO much focus on the negative aspects of a character you kinda run the risk of forgetting what it was that made that character compelling in the first place
See, more often than not, people don’t wanna see characters who are complete, ineffectual fuck ups 100% of the time. The point of wanting to deconstruct a character and showcase their weaknesses is that you should then proceed to rebuild them, to have them crawl back from the pit, the harder the fall the more satisfying it will be when said character pulls themselves together
Ever read the manga Berserk?
In it we find a character called Farnese
Tumblr media
When she’s introduced she’s presented as the leader of a religious company of knights and the daughter of the richest noble family in the land. She has a large group of men under her command and generally looks like she means business
...except we then find out that, deep down, Farnese is not all she’s cracked up to be: she can’t actually fight, having been chosen as leader of the group purely out of tradition. Most of her men don’t respect her, her religious faith is actually a lot flimsier than even she dared to realize and, above all...she literally had no real skills whatsoever, being a noble lady who had been pampered all her life. All of this wrapped up in a nice little package of childhood trauma and insecurities
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Farnese’s entire character is brought down, deconstructed down to her barest elements, to the point that even she openly realizes just how worthless she is
Tumblr media
But after this is when Farnese’s character starts to rise, as she makes a great effort at improving herself as a person, at finding a never before seen sense of courage and at finally becoming truly strong in her own way
Tumblr media
Samus’ character arc in Other M feels like it’s focusing on the first steps...only for it to then call it a day before undergoing those last few, yet still acting like it did, though I’ll get more into detail next time as I feel it’s more appropriate
What makes it even worse is the fact that, frankly, she has little reason to act the way that she does here
Some like to say that it’s not a contradiction, as Samus never spoke in other games, so she had no discernable personality. After all Other M presents itself as showing us the “true” Samus, even down to the Japanese cover having this little gimmick with basically having an over-cover with Samus’ helmet, while the real cover underneath has her actual face, thus meaning that you have to “unmask” Samus to play the game. Get it?
Except people seem rather quick to forget Fusion, y’know that game that served as 90% of the basis for Other M, including by having Samus in a speaking role. And while there are certainly some similarities in both portrayals, Fusion Samus is nowhere close to being this insecure, passive and ineffective as she is here
But even ignoring that it’s pretty clear that the in-universe reason for Samus’ emotional state in this game is due to the Baby’s death.
And really?
Really?
Look, I’m not one of those fans who say that she’s never had any sort of attachment to the Baby because she gave it to scientists. That was at the start of Super, by the end she was clearly furious with Mother Brain for killing it, so she had definitely started to develop some degree of affection for the thing
...but to the point of its death breaking her? And I do mean “break”, later on upon seeing another Baby Metroid she fucking starts hyper ventilating
She knew the Baby for what? A couple of days at most? Yeah having it die on top of you after it protected and saved you is horrible, no doubt about that, but it’s hard to believe that Samus would be so broken up about it after so long: remember that during the intro Samus states that quite a bit of time had passed after the events of Super, evidently enough for the GF to start a whole illegal program on board of a space station, so we’re talking months at least, yet I’m supposed to believe that she’s still THIS torn up about it?
Samus watched her parents die, she had her foster parents driven away from their planet, has had to personally kill 3 bounty hunters who were possessed...yet this is what breaks her?
I guess I could believe it...had there been enough narrative build up in the games, which there simply wasn’t. After Super the only other game to make mention of the Baby was Fusion, where Samus only mentions it in passing and that’s it. Other M suddenly presenting its death as such a profoundly traumatic thing for her out of the blue is just so sudden that it becomes hard to swallow especially when accompanied to its consequences to Samus’ character
The funny thing is that if they truly wanted Samus to feel sad about losing something they had a much better alternative in the form of planet Zebes, her former home for over a decade, literally blowing up after Super! That’s her SECOND home being destroyed! Yet she only mentions it once like it was NOTHING!
I know that people like to say that Samus should be more than a silent stoic monolith, it’s why some hated the way she was portrayed in Dread...but guys?
Samus being a super badass has been a key feature of her character literally since day 1!
If you read Metroid 1′s manual it says that Samus’ perfect record is THE reason why she was sent to Zebes in the first place! It’s the reason why she’s always sent on these kinds of missions! And while it’s absolutely true that the character should not be limited to JUST this, it’s doubly true that it’s still a key aspect that NEEDS to be kept otherwise the series itself stops making sense on the whole!
If Other M is trying to tell me that this is what Samus really is like...then this just isn’t the same character that has quite literally been sold to me in every prior game, and not in a clever “subversive” way. She’s especially almost opposite from her Fusion portrayal, though again that one for another time
Hell she doesn’t even look like she could be a bounty hunter. Sure she can take care of random monsters and bosses, but given how little she truly accomplishes in the game, how insecure she is and everything else I find it very hard to believe that she could make it to the top of a line of work that requires you to have nerves of steel. I’m pretty sure that, in most professions that have you dealing with firearms and dangerous situations, people are psychally evaluated to make sure they won’t be a liability. Samus here is exactly that: a liability more than an asset, especially with the Ridley scene.
And all of this? Is without taking into account her relationship with dear ol’ Adam
Oh no no no, THAT is for next time...

Hey, it's the anon who sent the really long ask and I'm sorry to say but i forgot what i was going to write about AM so I've put off sending another ask hoping I'd somehow remember 3am me's thoughts. That's obv not going to happen, though, so here's what i can scrounge up!
Your AM is in the very unique position of not only being non-human but also the only person BE openly has, let's say a... "dislike" for. There are ways he could relate to the humans of course (treated like a pet, not given any real self-determination etc) but it's experience is so different in so many other ways.(Naomi and AM were both "taken in" by BE while they were still.. idk young might not be the right word, but Naomi had time to grow up a bit before the whole thing while AM barely had time to realise that he's a person. Evan and AM are both seen as different from the others by BE, Evan for being a man and AM for not being one but Evan isn't dealt divine punishment for the whole trying to destroy humanity thing etc.)
Point is that AM as the narrator would be so fundementally different from the others, i think that's why i wanted to write about it. Narration from AM has the potential to be even clearer than Naomi's would be since there are things about BE she wouldn't show in front of the humans and things the humans just wouldn't be able to see in the same way(code AM might be privy to they couldn't interpret and such).
BE is also the reason AM can see, hear and feel so while he didn't have over a century to lament over not being able to (like the original AM did) that has to change so much, like you've already shown some of.
Oh and like you brought up in the post after my ask: there's no way traces of BE's code hasn't corrupted AM somehow! How would that change things? Does the corruption increase over time or would he just use that as an excuse for why he cares about these humans now? Would he even acknowledge that he has been "corrupted" or is he still too proud for that somewhere deep down? There's so much potential for character exploration!
The parallels between BE and the original AM is fun too! AM torturing it's humans to reinforce and remind itself of it's hatred for them and superiority over them vs BE torturing your AM as "divine retribution" for his sins and a way to remind herself of her job as her sheep's protector, her love for them as well as a reminder to both herself and your AM of her superiority over him.
Once again, hope you have a nice day!! It made me happy you've enjoyed my asks, and the explanation of the sanctuary was a nice bonus for the one before the last :)
This ended up really rambly, but i hope most of it is understandable and that my interpretations aren't like... completely different from what you were trying to portray. (Also, I'm used to referring to the original AM with it pronouns so i might mess up your AM's he from time to time, so here's a disclaimer that i dont do it on purpose)
You have a very good interpretation of my AM and it pleases me that my work my nonsensical posts came across the way I intended. One thing I have decided moving forward is that the story will be told in chapters or parts told from each characters perspective, with the exception of BE, as idk how to write the utterly bizarre way she thinks with it also being understandable to a reader.
But besides that I really like how you worded everything here, especially in pointing how BE is the counter part of the original AM. Truthfully the AM of this world is so different from the original, that I wouldn’t even describe him as the opposite of the og anymore. And you asked about how her code has corrupted him, and it definitely has become something that has gotten more prominent over time. In the beginning AM for sure had some of his pride and his og “hate-everything”ness, but overtime it has started to fizzle out, mostly as a survival tool priority, in the present time (109 years later) he struggles to recall exactly why he killed humanity in the first place, but still knows he did it as BE reminds him. He is also aware of his love for the humans coming from BE and often has crises if it’s own feelings or hers.
One thing about BE’s treatment of this AM (Who I might start calling Amy Idk), is that the body she gave him is very-very human like, as in it may or may not contain real human organs and bits of flesh, to really give him a warped “human” experience. So like the original AM, she has starved and dehydrated him for extensive periods of time, as well as the severe phycological and physical torture, yet she also doesn’t allow him to really “wonder” around. Although as stated before a bit ago his senses and nerves are hypersensitive, so he is generally very cautious about the stuff he gets up to. But one of the biggest differences between her and the OG AM, is how she has discovered to keep him in place. As in like what many real life abusers do, she kind of love-bombs him. As in she treats him nice sometimes, as it kind of “assures” him that he deserves this and if he behaves well then he can go upstairs and play with the humans. Not really helped that he has figured out that if he’s with the humans, BE doesn’t do anything (well she does it’s just more subtle), so that in of itself has definitely contributed to his love of the humans, finding safety with them, especially Evan who he has a particular interest in.
His body has contributed to him gaining things the og AM probably didn’t have cause of his circumstances, or at least a more tamer version. As you stated he is “young”, although I wouldn’t describe him as a child really, just kind of immature. Like he’s kind of goofy when his guard is down, if not clingy. His body is very sensitive, so while that does mean he experiences horrendous agony, it also goes the opposite way. So his odd cuddliness and enjoyment of warm things isn’t just me liking the idea of him in a pile of plushies I swear.
Anyhow I love your asks and everything, you se so cool. Thank you so so much. Hopefully you understood this ramble of mine like you did the others :D

Meet Cute  // KendallxRiley // Big Time Rush
A/N: So I realized that I’ve written Riley in two different ways the last few years; the angst driven one with her parents dead and the other lighthearted driven one when her parents are alive. But unless you pay attention to the things I write in different fandoms, you wouldn’t really see how they’re the same character but there are fundemental things about her personality that are different with and without the influence of her parents. So, I decided to write two quick scenes to show y’all!
The first version is where her parents are dead, the second is where they’re alive. This is set around Big Time Audition.

Version 1
Kendall pushed open the door to the costume closet with light trepidation. Was there going to be more leather all over the place? Or was it going to be an explosion of red, white, and blue with tassels? Either way, he hoped Gustavo got the message that the boys weren’t going to be easily controlled. Then again, Griffin’s assistants—Obdul and Jessica—seemed to be as crazy as Griffin were and thought they were good ideas. (Though he figured, being around Griffin in any capacity of time was enough to drive anyone insane).
“Hello?” He called.
“You’re late!”
The voice came from behind a set of racks that sat in the middle of the floor. Kendall walked over and peered around it, finding a girl teenage girl his age sitting on the floor with a pencil in her mouth an da clipboard on her lap. She looked up at him, eyelashes fluttering behind the long black hair with red streaks that hung straight around her shoulders and back.
“Raleigh?” He asked.
She pulled the pencil from her mouth and said flatly, “It’s Riley. And you’re late.”
“Sorry.” He held out his hand to help her up, brought it back to his side when she stood on her own. “I just…”
“I would be too if I had to wear what you lot did when Griffin was in here,” she continued as if he hadn’t spoken. Once on her feet, she set her clipboard aside and shook his hand. She tilted her head, turning his hand aside. “You play guitar?”
It took a second for him to recognize the change in subject. “Yeah, how could you tell?”
“Callouses,” she replied plainly. “It’s all over your hands, mate.” She slid her hands into the back pockets of her jeans, shifted her weight as she cocked her hip. Looked him up and down, the hint of a smirk coming to her face. “Plus, I reckon you don’t seem the type to be in a boy band.”
“Is that a good or a bad thing?”
“I’m trying to figure that out,” she replied honestly. “Also, you’re pretty brave for wanting to work with Gustavo Rocque. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but he can be a little…”
“Unhinged?”
“I was going to say ‘completely mental’ but that works, yeah?”
“That…probably does work better. It’s really accurate.” Kendall nodded. “And, how many times do you get the chance to try to make music with some of your best friends?” Her eyebrows rose. “Opportunities like this come once in a lifetime,” he said, answering her question. “How could I pass it up?”
“Don’t you have a background in hockey?” Riley folded her arms, studying him. He looked at her curiously. “You have to do your research on anyone you’re going to work with,” she said as explanation. “Hockey, huh?”
“Hockey’s my life,” Kendall said. “I grew up playing it. I can’t imagine not being on the ice…it’s like home to me.” He suddenly felt a pang in his chest, of anxiety. Had he made the right decision? To give everything up and go all the way to California to try and see if they could be a music group? A success? But he also couldn’t sit back and have his best friend be berated and told that he had ‘no talent’ when James had all the talent in the world and then some. “But theres always time for it. There’s always an off-season.”
“Sounds like me and surfing,” Riley said after a second with a light nod. “I never planned on being in a band, I just want to be in the water.”
“Right!” Kendall’s anxiety washed away with her words. Finally, someone who understood. “The feeling of the stick in your hands, the reverberation of the slapshot you just took, the rush of getting that slapshot into the top corner of the net as it slides by the goalie? Facing off against the line of defenders while you try to make a breakaway for the last goal of the game. Washing out all blood—and sometimes mucus—stains from your jersey but not washing out the memories.”
“Whatever you say, Hockey-Head,” Riley quipped after a second of silence. “You’re lucky you’re cute or else I’m sure that would turn off a lot of people, yeah?” She looked at him suspiciously. “You do have all your teeth, right?”
“Yes, I have all my teeth,” Kendall said with a roll of his eyes. He pursed his lips and made a show of tapping his two front teeth with his fingertips. Then started to smile and play a beat with the tapping from his fingertips. “Hey, maybe Griffin would be happy with something like that?”
Riley sighed, placing a hand on her hip. The other rested on the arm of the couch, supporting her weight. “Something tells me you’re going to be very annoying,” Despite her words, she had a small smile on her face.
Kendall smiled back.
-
Version 2
Kendall hesitantly stepped into the costume closet. He pressed his hand against the door and pressed it open, expecting to see even more red, white, and blue apparel all over the place. Either that or the massive amounts of leather he and his friends had been forced to squeeze into. His legs still had the rash that even his mom’s best lotions couldn’t cure.
The idea of being dressed in any of those outfits again was enough to have Kendall turn tail and run. But James would never forgive him, especially not after Griffin decided to take a chance on them and sign them after three days of hard work. Logan would’ve ranted at him the statistics of the time, blood, sweat, and tears they would have wasted. And Carlos…he wouldn’t have cared much; everything was an adventure to him.
But he’d never backed away from a challenge and he wanted to prove Gustavo and Griffin wrong. Still, he found himself trembling as he entered the costume closet for the fifth time in the last few days. He found a teenage girl about his age scribbling on a clipboard.
“Raleigh?” he asked, using the name Gustavo had given them.
She lifted her head, brushing her black hair from her blue eyes. A strand of dyed red fell back into her face, and she tucked it behind her ears along with her low pigtails. “Actually, it’s Riley.”
“Oh.” Kendall blinked, suddenly at a loss for words. Partially from embarrassment at having gotten her name wrong—though he should’ve known that Gustavo wouldn’t have gotten anyone’s names right considering he and his friends had almost immediately been reduced to ‘dogs’—and partially because he was stunned from her smile. Was that an accent? “I’m sorry.”
“I’m not,” she replied with ease.
Kendall felt his cheeks burn as he smiled. “I’m Kendall.”
“I know who you are.” She stuck out her hand with a warm smile. He took it, eyebrows widening when he felt the firmness of her handshake. Then they lowered in confusion when she turned his hand over and ran her fingers from his palm to his fingertips. She lifted her head, blue eyes widening in excitement. “You play the guitar?”
“Yeah.” He brought his hand back, momentarily surprised. “How could you tell?”
“A bloke like you doesn’t seem like they’d be in a boyband, yeah?” She lazily waved her hand, moving back through the costume closet to grab a rack of clothes he assumed were for him. Judging by the flannels and skate shoes he saw sitting on it. “Doesn’t really seem like your thing.”
Kendall watched her as she moved, silently wondering if that was a good or a bad thing. Being in a boyband wasn’t his thing, they were going to be a singing group. There was a difference. Still, he found himself smiling at her comment.
Noticing the silence, Riley chuckled quietly and said, “The callouses on your fingers are a dead giveaway, mate.” She rested her arms on the top of the rack and gently rocked back and forth. “So, what made you agree to work with Gustavo? I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but he can be a little…”
“Unhinged?”
“I was going to say ‘crazy’ but…” she shrugged. “Your word is correct.”
Kendall laughed. “Opportunities like this come once in a lifetime,” he said, answering her question. “How could I pass it up?”
“Easily, considering you were slated to become a big hockey star.” She smiled gently when his eyes narrowed. They’d only just met; how could she have possibly known that? “One thing to learn about the industry, everyone is in everyone’s business and it’s only a matter of time until it reaches the public. Whatever you don’t want people to know…I hope you’ve got it under wraps.” She brushed her hair back from her face. “For me it’s only a matter of seconds until something I try to hide gets to my managers. Then again, my mum and dad are my managers.” She paused. “Hockey, huh?”
“Hockey is my dream,” Kendall admitted. He suddenly felt a pang in his chest, of anxiety. Had he made the right decision? To give everything up and go all the way to California to try and see if they could be a music group? A success? But he also couldn’t sit back and have his best friend be berated and told that he had ‘no talent’ when James had all the talent in the world and then some. “I want to play center for the Wild.” He shrugged. “Or the Maple Leafs.”
“Dreaming big.”
“Yeah. But I couldn’t take this opportunity away from James. He’s my best bud, I wouldn’t be able to live with myself. There’s always time for hockey, there’s always an off-season.”
“Whatever you say, Hockey-Head,” Riley quipped. She pushed herself away from the rack of clothes and smiled demurely. “I think Gustavo and Griffin may regret hiring with you lot. But, you plan on sticking around, yeah?”
“As far as this takes us.”
She folded her arms. “Ace!” Her eyes dipped over him and for a moment, he felt like he was being X-Rayed. Her smirk-smile widened. “I think this’ll be fun.”
Kendall found himself smiling back.

Murder and Morality in Helluva Boss
So I was thinking about this one post I saw about Helluva Boss, and while the main characters are likeable, they aren’t really good people, and most of are antagonists aren’t exactly worse than them. After all, the premise of the show is about a murder business, and the main characters kill people all the time.
Now, this person has a great point. The main characters are, objectively speaking, terrible people, based on the fact that they murder people all the time. But this still got me thinking; in a world in which the characters are from the afterlife, and a majority of the story has to do with death and the afterlife, how bad is murder?
Because here’s the thing: the main characters have lived in the afterlife their entire lives, and they already 100% know that their targets will go to the afterlife. And the sinners of hell can only be killed by a heavenly weapon, so when they (the sinners) “kill” each other, it isn’t really death. Murder and violence is super common there, and is probably normal.
Our characters have also never been shown killing other residents of the afterlife. The only people they’ve ever killed have been people who will just get sent to the place the protagonists have lived their entire lives. For denizens of the afterlife, getting sent there probably isn’t seen as death. For humans, we think of death as the end, but for them, it’s the beginning. It isn’t dying, it’s just a continuation.
That might be the reason all the characters in hell treat the murder of humans so lightly. For them, it’s more like a change in states of being. When you were born with a fundemental understanding of this transition and it is essentially the norm, you probably become numb to it. Death in that sense in probably frivolous to them, because they know that they are gonna come back anyways, and Hell probably doesn’t seem all that bad to an imp or hellhound or whatever, since it’s home.
I still think it’s bad, but the types of murder that ensues in Helluva Boss might not be as bad as you think when you consider the type of cognitive dissonance all the people of Hell have when it comes to death. So in a world where murder doesn’t really kill you, how bad is it?

I AM GOING TO EXPLODE WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT EVEN IS THE MOVIE
LIKE IT IS SO FUCKING GOOD IT IS AMAZING LITERALLY STUNNING FASCINATING FACTUALLY AWESOME
BUT IT IS SO INTENSE LITERALLY EVERYTHING IS AIMING TO TEAR YOUR HEART OUT HOLY FUCK
I am going to sit here and process everything that happened and maybe watch it again later what the fuck what the fuck what the fuck. How do they start it with Mikey dying and then have Raph almost die and everything happening and LEO SACRIFICING HIMSELF?? DONNIE STILL PUTTING HIMSELF IN HARMS WAY TO PROTECT HIS BROTHERS EVEN WHEN HIS BATTLE SHELL BREAKS? DONNIE MERGING WITH THE SHIP, LIKE THAT IS AN EXPERIENCE WHAT. I KINDA THOUGHT IT WOULD LAST LONGER? PROBABLY BEST THAT IT DID BUT OOAOAOAOAERLKG
ALSO it's SO much darker than I expected )as you can probably tell aekrgmaelkrgm) but ALL THE BODY HORROR?? THAT IS LITERAL BODY HORROR NOT JUST FUNSY GOOP. THAT AIN'T MELTED PLAYDO THAT IS FLESH AND BLOOD AND GOOPIFIED CREATURES. I am with Donnie here that is LITERALLY my worst nightmare <- ever since I was 4 I've been haunted by nightmares where people melt in some fashion. IDK why but this triggered it in the wildest of ways (not negative?)
I am shaking this movie has fundementally changed me as a person. This movie is an experience that will separate my life from "before" and "after" watcjing this movie. I am going insane how DID THIS MOVIE GET OKAYED?? I AM NOT COMPLAINING IM JUST SO SURPRISED! Kinda wondering if they are having troubles making a third season because of the tonal shift of the TV series and this movie, like things were DARK here and there were even guns, blood, cartoony gore, like aeRLGMalekrmglakermg <- idk how to put into words but YEA
I'LL SEND SOME THEORIES AND STUFF LATER I AM JUST SO FERAL RN.
ALSO SIDE NOTE near the end of the movie when Donnie was left without his battle shell for a while my brain was like "HEY you know what would help our ptsd? a battle shell, because we hate the feeling of having no weight on our back/no level of protection" so I've mentally been planning (while fully immersed in watching the movie? brains work in weird multi level ways)
So ANYWAYS I've come up with a rough idea on how to make a battle shell contraption of shorts that doesn't require tech, just some skills and materials that theoretically are extremely easily accessible, I just need to do some research, measurements and a bit more planning and I think I know how you could make a lightweight makeshift moves-with-your-back-roughly back protector/shell of sorts. I'll update you on that if you want, just gotta check my thoughts on the flexibility vs durability balance
your making a fuckn!! battle shell??? i wish i had a battle shell ;_; thats SO COOL. good luck with that!
i can personally say that the entire time donnie wasnt wearing his shell had me on pins and needles i was sO TERRIFIED HE WAS GONNA GET HURTTT agAUGHAUH
I'm pretty sure the movie came out AFTER the show was cancelled/"paused" so I'm not sure if it had any affect on the cancellation, or if it was just darker cause it had to have more STAKES than the average rottmnt episode. OR if the show was just gonna go into detail about the krang later anyway (which was foreshadowed in the show itself im pretty sure) and it was always gonna be this uhhhHHHH SCARYYYY.
But so far Rottmnt has a tendency to make previous villains more monstrous (my personal theory is so that they can go HARDER with the fight scenes lol) like they did with Shredder who was basically a huge fucking scary BEAST. so I think the Krang being SO FUCKING BODYHORROR ASS SCARY is fitting. Still got spooked when Raphs shell got fuckd up tho!

No wait i actually have so many thoughts about this.
One of Anna's particular traits that drives me insane (positively) is the way she veiws herself. She has memories of her sister and her parents and they love eachother and theyre so happy. Then one day that changes. Elsa "shuts her out" and her parents are more withdrawn (studying/ focusing on Elsa), and she doesnt know what she did wrong, and she internalizes it. And this is just the driving force behind the reason she takes Elsa running away the way she does, because she thinks its her fault. Afterall, she pushed her sister. She did something wrong again and drove her away again.
But then she does see Elsa in the mountains, and she's happy and welcoming, and they actually have a conversation and maybe, just maybe, that means she's getting another chance. To hold on to the only family she has left. The only person she really thinks she knows. (Which, the fact of her literal isolation, especially after her parents death, definitely plays a huge role in all of this)
But I think thats why one of the most poignant lines (in my opinion) is during their confrontation in the castle and Anna's pleading "Please, dont shut me out again. Please, dont slam the door, we dont have to keep our distance anymore."
Then when she gets thrown out again, still not understanding that it was for her not because of her, she panics. (Stars, the way she says "we wont" when marshmellow screams at her to never come back) but she never condemns Elsa, she's consistantly defending her everytime she has to explain what happened. She thinks so highly of her sister and she understands and loves her in such a fundemental way, but she cannot fathom herself to be important or good enough. See one of my favorite lines from the broadway show: "im not the heir, im just the spare" when explaining why shes not important enough to be shown the respect often alotted to someone of her station. Its so tragic. And she jumps in front of the sword.
All this while Elsa's only wish through the whole thing was to protect Anna. She shut her out because she didnt want to hurt her again. She refused to bless the marriage because she didnt want some stranger to hurt her sister. She threw her off the mountain because she couldnt bear the thought of hurting her. (I Cant Lose You from the broadway version sends so many chills through me oms these two).
Idk Elsa being so afraid of herself and seeing herself as a monster that Anna needs protection from, vs Anna's undying love for her sister and terrible sense of self worth in conparison, it just does something to my brain.
Sorry if this is rambly or incoherent i just have alot of thoughts
Thinking about how in frozen Anna understood that Elsa was scared/upset when she ran off after her powers were revealed. But the same way Anna seemed to think Elsa shut her out for something she'd done she assumes Elsa must be upset with her and the storm a consequence of that. In Anna's eyes her sister, while not evil or cruel, holds grudges. And it is her duty both as a sister and to her kingdom to fix this and get Elsa to forgive her.
Meeting Olaf complicates things(he is unavoidably a happy memory from when the two got along still). Seeing Elsa so at peace up on the mountain complicates things(when was the last time she saw Elsa like that? Has she ever?). But learning Elsa has No Idea of the storm shes unleashed on the kingdom and seeing the terror and heartache that this realization causes her lets the pieces to finally click into the right order. For the first time she truly understands that the only person Elsa keeps grudges against is herself.

i feel like the reason you might've gotten asks about how horrible alicent/aemond could be is because you refuse to flesh out their bad traits. they don't do bad things out of spite you always justify them and that's off putting. in show aemond will emerge into darkness and there will be no holy girl who will save him from his doom so why you keep on insisting all asks about how horrible he can be aren't of your liking? it'll all happen in 2 season, so what's wrong with these asks? i thought you have nothing against expanding his dark side because you did it with one shot where aemond murders his wife over a rumour and now you totally focus on his good traits which isn't relatable at all. we all have darkness within us, why deny that?
1. I know reading is not fundemental to some - But if you actually read that whole one shot, including the author’s note that’s there for a reason, you would have seen that it was a request. Someone sent me an ask when I was taking request, and as a writer I wrote it. Just like I wrote another request about him comforting his wife after a nightmare. It’s almost like… I can write multiple things at the same time… wild thought I know. It was my choice just like it can be my choice not to answer questions
2. My most popular work to date is Aemond being a cheater. Quite literally forgetting his duty and putting himself first. A completely selfish act that puts his family at risk. Idk what more you want from me in terms of him being ‘realistic’ and ‘bad’. When I have ever said that Aemond doesn’t have a dark(er) side?? I’ve gone on record saying I enjoyed that they changed him in s1 bc him descend into something different will be more interesting versus him being one note in the book. My most recent work (the fruits) is about that.
3. If it is “off putting”, don’t read my stuff? In fact, just block my blog all together. Absolutely no one is forcing you to come to my blog if is that tortuous to see what I have to say. If it is ‘not relatable’, go find someone who is relatable. There are writers (team green and black) who write ‘dark’ Aemond far more than I ever have. There are plenty of people who think Alicent is the most evil person on the show. Why not ask them since my answers and writing aren’t satisfactory? You have to realize how mind blowing it sounds that people (I’m thinking it’s just you honestly) don’t like my answers but continue to ask me things.
I have been extremely respectful to people despite how uncomfortable some of the questions make me (some pertaining to s.a and rape. Going into detail which is extremely triggering to me without warning). I tried to be respectful creating boundaries. I don’t like being rude to people, but you have a problem with the things I put on MY blog and MY opinions, you can respectfully fuck off

karma akabane s/o scenario or more headcannons <3
Note: I haven't written for him in a while and it made me feel bad so here u go bub (灬º‿º灬)♡
Tumblr media
He is so annoying.
Before and after the development of your relationship he hasn't failed to tease you at any given opportunity.
But I guess it's part of his charm.
ಡ ͜ ʖ ಡ
Karma isn't an overly affectionate person but he still manages to keep light contact with you at times.
Maybe it's an arm wrapped around your shoulders or slung over your hips. Might locks fingers at times, but don't expect too much from him in public unless he's jealous.
And even when he's jealous he'll probably resort to starting a fight if being overly affectionate with you doesn't tell the person to back off.
ರ_ರ
But in private is where his true softness shows, he's not very clingy but he'll tend to gravitate to you more often for skinship.
Smol murderous babie.
( ꈍᴗꈍ)
It's very sweet and he tries to play it of cool but really he likes the feeling of your skin touching his or being around you in general.
You both have a dynamic of either a power couple or a 'shy sweet partner' which is you and a 'demonic crazy fuck' which is him.
And to add onto the polar opposites trope he's only ever sweet to you
and the rest? not so much.
(ー_ー゛)
You keep him in check most of the time.
Karma doesn't trust easily, he hadn't been given a reason to throughout his life. Not by his parents nor by the teacher who landed him into class E.
(〒﹏〒)
So he's definitely built a foundation of trust over a long period of time when it came to you.
It takes a bit of patience to become his s/o for both parties involved but the end result is healthy and completly worth it if you go about it the right way.
His relationships lead to utmost respect when and if they are genuine.
And according to him, you're the most genuine thing in his life.
He's definitely gonna have you stick around for as long as possible, you mean an awful lot to him.
( ◜‿◝ )♡
He doesn't really use a lot of pet names.
He's aware that names hold power over a person and flustering you by simply letting your name smoothly slip out when speaking is enough.
He knows it puts you on the spot and makes you feel his undivided attention.
The rush it gives you is something he relishes in.
But besides your name he goes for much simpler things such as: babe, sweets, baby.
He isn't old fashioned so darling and other names like those won't really pop up.
But he might use 'sugar' or 'hun' Etc. for shits and giggles.
〜(꒪꒳꒪)〜
But if there is some kind of inside joke that involves giving you a nickname he'll definitely be using it.
For example: if you're noticeably shorter than him he might use 'shortcake.' or 'little one.'
Anything to emphasize really and it'll only be in good humour, if it truly bothers you he'll stop.
He may be a bit pushy but he knows when a boundary is set and unless there's some sort of hatred between him and someone he won't cross any lines with them.
ಠ_ಠ
He can really hit below the belt with people he loathes but never you, you're his person so he'd never hurt you intentionally.
He doesn't look it but karma is very attuned with your emotions, like I said earlier before you became his s/o you became someone he fundementally trusts so in turn he'll actively try to become someone you can trust too.
To him it will involve being able to read any change in emotion from you, it helps him figure out what you need at the right times and change the circumstances to your comfort if possible.
His very existence can seen so aloof and carless, effortless even but when in a serious relationship he puts in the work.
As he should. (⌐■-■)
Though you'll only get this treatment if he feels that the effort is being reciprocated, it's a two way street and karma only gives back what he receives.
It's in his name after all.
I swear the pun initially was not intended.
I know it's a horrible pun, I'm sorry I'll stop lol.
ʘ‿ʘ
Anyway.
He can be gentle with you and protective.
Not in an excessive way, he knows you can hold up fine in your own, you're not an infant.
but he still likes to feel he's doing well as your partner.
So reassurance is always welcome, you can even catch him off guard with it.
(◠‿◕)
But pls take care of him, he's got a few loose screws in the head but I promise he's trying.
He'll appreciate any and all gestures no matter how small.
ෆ╹ .̮ ╹ෆ
Even something as simple as fixing his shirt or smoothing out his hair.
Even greater things like a day entirely spent on him will be taken in stride.
He always returns with interest, and if he feels as if he hasn't been clear enough with his feelings then he'll sit you both down for a proper chat and vise versa.
He's a bit emotionally constipated so a nudge in the right direction at times would be nice but he can handle it from there.
all in all if he's decided you're stuck with him, you're stuck with him.
(´∩。• ᵕ •。∩`)

I think alot of lore olympus could be salvaged if it was less written about Hades and Persephone from the perspective that they are good and more from "people do shitty things and sometimes we feel bad about their circumstances, but we do not justify their hurt of other." Like. Oh god. Imagine if them being a terrible couple (to others and for eachother) went from subtext to text. Like how they might not be abusive but they indulge and don't challange the worst things about each other feeding into their worst parts of themsleves. The power. The privilege. The materialism. The money. The hypocrisy. All parts of being a god. Maybe it wasn't just Demeter protecting Persephone from the other gods but from the traps of being a god. She is far far from perfect, but she even in her own privlage knows about the bullshit of olympus as someone who even as a god has not been always in their favor. What if Minthe even if the relationship was flawed atleast kept Hades grounded in a weird way while he still never understood or took the time to understand what was fundementally wrong with his actions and thoughts, and abandoning that lead to a run away trainwreck where Hades and Perse don't hold eachother accoutable and no one else dares to now. Zeus tried. He was 100% overboard and in it for the wrong reasons, but it techinically was accountability. Holy shit. From 0/10 to atlesst 8/10 to me. Like I think if Rachel went down a "Wait, these two are not a good match, and this is not a good love story" path it would be great, but she will never ever do that. Imagine if they made Persephone less of a girl boss queen good goody whatever they frame her as and more or a tragedy in one way where she succeeds but look what she became. Hpw was becoming a queen her personal tragedy? A look into the special class of gods and their dealings. Corrution from power if you will and a testing of morals anc in Perse's case losing. It could also be a deconstuction of even if she is not from olympus, she is a god and recieves privlage others won't as she learns as we also nagivate this new world with her and we watch her fall into the hypocricy and social power of the other gods. There are 100% things you might need to change, but I am saying it could be intersting.bi gave not thought everything through yet, so definatly not perfect. Don't want it to be some "farm girl goes to big city and gets corrupted by city life" thing. No sir. Maybe show how it's not just olympus but it has always been a part of her life. Maybe show not even all gods reveive the same privlage and there is a pecking order like with Apollo. Honestly. If they stopped pretending these are good people and Hades was changing for the better rather than Persephone changing for the worse and looked at the hypocrisy and classism of the gods of olympus, then I am saying we have the foundation of something spicy. Rachel can't write it though because 1.) She won't. 2.) I don't trust her.
^^^
Amazing I loved to read through your thoughts!
I've said this before and I'll say it again, lore olympus could be alot better if it was a bojack horseman style story. One where the main character is objectively terrible and abusive and the characters around them suffer but grow into better people. Instead lore olympus is just boring romantic where come on hades and persephone are just great super strong people abusing their power-

I haven't watched the entire cql - I think I got to the end of the 'school days' arc? (Not because I don't like it but just because watching shows is hard for me where reading is easy).... So this thought is not fully baked BUT - one thing I noticed that feels related to all of the above meta is how.... Layered mxtx novels are. None of her protagonists would ever straightforwardly admit to a thought or feeling they had without like at least 3 levels of obstruction via: their own opinions on what the people around them want/don't want to hear; or their opinion about what sort of self image they should be projecting for whatever reason; or complicated trauma about the inherent vulnerability of sincerity; or the limits of their perceptions of other people's internal states; or just that they have a shitty(hilarious) sense of humor........
I always read the narration in MXTX as fundementally unreliable, especially surrounding characters internal states - you have to interpret everything through the lense of the protagonists interiority and you have to construct your model of the protagonists internal state based on not just what the narration tells you their internal state is but also the gaps or contradictions between that and their actual actions. IE novel!wwx's whole set of feelings and actions regarding his debt to the Jiang clan and his relationship with Jiang cheng specifically.... The meat of those relationships is in the contradictions between how WWX talks/what he is stated to believe/how he acts (IMO!! Other folks can and do see it differently lol. For another example - the friendship between Shen Yuan and Shang Qinghua: imo they're pretty obviously friends who care a lot about each other.... They're just also weird dramatic dudes who could not behave sincerely if their lives depended on it)
In the show that's..... Not really feasible to do? Different medium means that you don't really have the same opportunity for a sort of unreliable third person narrator- what is or isn't 'true' is a lot more set in stone in film vs. a novel, so a lot of the nuance of characterization and relationships that relies on those places of tension and like.... Dialectics (two opposing realities which seem contradictory but are somehow both true) has to get smoothed out into more straightforward character/relationship arcs.
Tl;Dr: constraints of the medium force some of the changes in character, not just the censorship thing :D
Back when I was watching cql but hadn't touched mdzs someone--(was this you @rhinefall?) said the show had really overemphasized the pseudo-familial, fraternal elements of the story, at the expense of wangxian.
(Which I found deeply off-putting ngl because it makes it sound like the show made up a lot of the meaty content there, which it did not. Its major invention in that area is jiang cheng's crush on wen qing.)
And it's like. Looking over them both. I can see where that statement is coming from, in that The Untamed frontloaded jiang cheng, gave jiang yanli extra appearances, and generally expanded the ratio of page/screen time for the backstory in order to let that carry more of the obvious narrative arc. Since the romance arc could not play out as in the novel, due to censorship.
But being able to compare them now, I honestly feel like what cql actually wound up exaggerating most was...wei wuxian's relationship with lan wangji???
Because. They had to take the romance out. But they also had to make them love each other or there's no point. Which means wangxian had to be friends.
Which in turn means that in the live action version teenage and young adult Wei Wuxian consistently pays attention to, focuses on, confides in, and routinely interacts with Lan Wangji very much on purpose, as part of a relationship he values, considers strong, and is making an effort to maintain.
None of which is true, in the novel.
