This is not a CamChase post, but, I actually do want to talk about something I feel is deeply underappreciated by fandom, which is: Cameron and Chase are actually friends.

Long before they ever sleep together, all the way back in early S1. The two of them are almost always shown to get along! Cameron sticks up for Chase the entire Vogler arc, refusing (incorrectly) to believe he would rat, or that he should be fired. Chase, noted apathetic, actually tends to go out of his way to compliment or stick up for Cameron in early episodes: he passes along her good ideas to House (Maternity), defends her from House's criticism (Detox), and compliments her good ideas in Pilot and DNR, something he notable never does once for Foreman.

They get along! They have a joking conversation about lab results and House and Foreman's fight in Socratic Method. In Paternity Chase makes a sort of borderline inappropriate joke that the patient should take his mind off his pain by admiring Cameron's boobs; Cameron laughs instead of getting offended. In Sports Medicine, he teases her about her upcoming date with House. In Hunting, before the meth hookup, Chase is openly worried about her and asks Cameron to drinks; he even offers to do extra work so she can take it easy! Chase! The laziest man alive!

But to me, the most telling example is in in Mob Rules. We're at the start of the Hameron arc, and last episode Cameron asked House if he liked her, which he didn't answer either way. And what does Cameron do? She talks to Chase about it.

CAMERON: Did House seem weird to you? CHASE: Are you expecting him to be weird? CAMERON: We spoke about how we felt. CHASE: You told him you liked him? CAMERON: No, of course not. CHASE: What are you talking about, then? CAMERON: I asked him if he liked me. CHASE: Why would you do that? CAMERON: Because… I like him.

They're friends! Chase reacts with zero surprise that Cameron likes House; she goes to him for advice in a moment she's feeling vulnerable. He already knows she likes House, Cameron wants his opinion. This is a conversation between friends.

In fact, this happens a few times. Notably, Cameron tries very hard to get Chase to open up to her in Cursed:

CAMERON: You know, parents are never as bad as kids think they are. CHASE: You like my dad so much, ask him out. CAMERON: [joking] I’d make an excellent step-mom, I’m very lenient. [pause] He’s your father, you never see him, and he’s here. Unless he’s done some unspeakable thing, you should lighten up. CHASE: Right, thanks for the tip.

And, yeah, she clearly doesn't get it, but she's trying! She's joking around, she cares. Cameron tries to get Chase's advice in Sleeping Dogs Lie, she commiserates with him in Deception, she unilaterally defends Chase in The Mistake. They joke around sometimes, she confides in Chase when the TB guy in TB or Not TB asks her out: Cameron goes to Chase for relationship advice! More than once!

These are conversations that do not happen with other characters: Cameron and Foreman indicate they respect one another medically, but never have personal conversations; Chase doesn't open up to anyone, period. But whenever Cameron is looking for advice or to share romantic gossip… she goes to Chase. And Chase, for his part, likes to tease her (and she him: sex can kill you was 1000% Cameron trolling him), but honestly tends to be… if not automatically sympathetic, he listens, he jokes about TB Guy, he knows about her crush on House and treats it like old news. They're! Friends! I would actually argue this is probably the main reason Cameron goes to him when she decides she wants casual sex: Chase is someone she, in fact, likes. Even if that liking is not romantic. (Even the btw we should have sex, I will never love you is uh. Unless you are totally deranged that is not how you approach a fwb situation. Unless you. You know. Know Chase isn't gonna be offended because he already knows you're friends and aren't trying to drag him.)

And this actually does continue once they do date, btw. They're constantly hanging out. Chase spends entire episodes of S5 just hanging out in the ER. He still likes to tease her (Whatever it Takes), she inexplicably/hilariously still ropes him into her House drama (Ugly), but I can count on one hand the number of times they bicker or are unkind and mean it. They are friends! They always were friends. And that was the case long before they ever hooked up. In an AU where they never dated, they would still be friends. Their (romantic) relationship was badly written, no one likes it, I get it. But honestly I really do love how well they got along in S1-2, and I wish people appreciated that friendship more.

The Dreaded King Trio Is Coming Back!

Did you miss out on Big Run? Or perhaps you tried your best but couldn't quite slay these beasts? I'm here to try and help as someone who did manage one victory (out of like 13 tries.......)

There's actually a couple different strategies I've seen people talk about that have worked for them! Feel free to try what may work for you:

(NOTE: For advice on specific Grizzco Weapons, please send me an ask specifying which ones you'd like advice for!)

Strategy #1 - Take Out Horrorboros First

If a Grizzco Charger is in your hands, you're in luck!! Horrorboros can be taken out in about 30-40 seconds with the proper timing! If I recall correctly, the explosion of the bomb in its mouth can also damage other Kings, so use that to your advantage!

This strategy frees up the map from the explosions so you can better focus on the other two!

Strategy #2 - Use Megalodontia Wisely

This one is an expert strategy that takes VERY careful coordination; I recommend having a squad for this one.

For those who may not know, Megalodontia can be used to attack Cohozuna directly for major damage! Just lead the bite right under Coho, and it'll help deal damage! But did you know you can also damage Horrorboros with its bite?

The aim for this is very tricky; You need to hit Horrorboros' bomb DIRECTLY to get the most damage (and potentially get both at once for huge damage), and this takes being able to track its location AND lure Megalodontia to the right spot at the right time, all while dealing with the usual Salmonid bosses. Only try this strategy if you've got a good handle on Salmon Run!

Strategy #3 - King Farming

This one also requires a full squad:

Have you applied the strategies, got REALLY close, but just couldn't quite finish it? Are you tired out from having to run so many waves just to try again?

KING FARMING!

Granted everyone is okay going down ranks, you can just throw/give up waves together on Wave 1 by jumping into the water, and that charges your King Meter! Throw maybe 4-5 waves to fill it back up to max, then put your effort into that wave to get your next chance! If you fail again, rinse and repeat!

It makes the attempts much more frequent.

General Advice:

-Do NOT forget about Salmonid Bosses! They group up very quickly. Try to lure certain ones closer together so you get large batches of eggs to use for attacking! (Also Stingers/Flyfish are a MUST to take down immediately)

-Watch your team's back! It's okay to take a couple seconds to help them clear out chum/bosses that may be swarming them; you need EVERYONE on this if you want to succeed, you cannot solo run this boss.

-Manage your ink, ESPECIALLY with the slower/ink heavier Grizzco weapons! Use bombs sparingly and have a plan for when you're about 50% ink capacity, or you can and will get stuck somewhere bad!

-Don't tilt! If you feel yourself getting frustrated and heated, step back for a while! Go calm down, shake off the jitters/nerves, and don't beat yourself up! You will play worse if you're in a bad headspace. Go take a break and come back to it! Keep your spirits up, and don't let losses take you down.

Rain when you're writing a longer fic or a slow burn, how do you write in the other characters life when the love interest isn't there? I did I plotline, based of what happens in each episode in the series but I always fall short on what the main character is doing or supposed to be doing 🤣 like I want to establish friendships as well outside of the love interest to give the story more depth.

so i’m assuming you’re talking about like in a fic when the mc/reader is interacting with someone other than the LI or when the LI is interacting with someone who’s not the mc/reader, right? in that case, here’s a couple of things to keep in mind:

a lot of a relationship’s development actually happens outside of the main two ppl directly interacting with each other, right? like think about when ppl joke about a guy texting a girl, and he’s texting all her girlfriends too cause they’re all dissecting his texts and brainstorming how to text back — but it’s literally how people interact!!!

make sure that you’re writing about the characters as much as you’re writing about the relationship the characters are in/gonna be in — if the character is flat, then no one will care about if they’re in a relationship or not, right? we’re out here yodeling about fictional ppl being in fictional relationships bc we have their OTHER fictional non-romantic relationships to give us context on who they are as people/characters — how zoro interacts with sanji and nami and luffy are all very different, but they all give us insight into who he is around different types of people. and from there, you can piece out how he would be around mc/reader, depending on the kind of person she is. the reverse is also tru — how mc/reader interacts with the other canon characters will give us (the ACTUAL readers) clues into her personality, etc

sometimes, you need the comedic relief — sometimes, you need the peanut gallery! sometimes, you want the fucking ppl in the background muttering to each other about these two idiots in love who REFUSE to acknowledge their own feelings so that the audience can feel vindicated in their own !!!!!!! that mc/reader and the LI are indeed idiots!!!! right like the other characters can act as kind of like the “chorus” in a greek/roman play who echo the audience, and those interactions are super important too!

friendships are just as if not MORE important than the romantic relationship!

in the same vein, enemies/coworkers/acquaintances/teachers/etc etc etc anyone who might inhabit the world around the main character(s) orbit is and can be interesting to the story if you allow them to be. you can get some really good supporting cast in there and they might actually start to steal the show LOL (death before decaf is a good example of the ensemble cast going a bit nuts imo LOL — i had a lot of fun with that one and i think most of the length actually came from me having fun trying to picture how the op cast would fit into a college campus au)

in his mind he is doing them a favor by taking someone like him out of the picture because his self esteem is stupidly low

is it healthy? no not at all

but is it in character for him?

yes in a situation where he felt him being around would cause actual issues he would try to leave and it would take action from the others involved to knock some sense into his self hating brain

There is genuinely nothing I have discovered more the past half a year as I've been writing this Stupid Fucking Multiple Novel Length Fic than the fact that it is So fucking rewarding. It's Fun and it's Great and you become So giddy about it because it's Exactly what you want and it's Exactly what you love and You Can Read It because it Actually Exists. The fact that You're the one making it (and therefore having it cathered Exactly to your every taste) is just a bonus <3

Have you ever been so inspired to make something, but lack the technical skill to make it, or for some reason or another have no way to externally express this like pent up need to make SOMETHING, and it feels like a gazillion thoughts running through your head and you get so restlessly frustrated because you NEED to make something, but for some reason or another, be it personal or technical, you just can’t? And then you end up giving yourself an anxiety attack and heart palpitations and it feels like you’re going to explode?
