It's the blasted "are the curtains blue because it's a message or because they are just blue" conflict. Because many people were FORCED to make meaning in story where there was none in school, they saw the flaw of thinking that everything in a story had deep meaning. Perhaps these people would go on to become authors and learn that writing is just a ruse of competency, leaving room for mere happenstance.

Thus creating the firm statement that the curtains are ALWAYS just blue.

But then, this generation grows older with this mindset and another generation, perhaps not released to the horror of having to write an essay on something they do not believe in, gets to have their own fun with analysis. They see the previous statement, and grow to have issues with it. This could also be due to a more fanfiction background since fanfiction is media where it is so much easier to add double meanings to things because there is an established base ground. You don't have to tell the reader what the main character looks like, the setting, or characters' personality, so you can explore much more interconnected prose.

Thus creating the firm statement that, no, the curtains ALWAYS have a deeper meaning.

Wait, but both sides have good points. What's the right answer? Neither. If the curtains never had deeper meanings, then media such as ARGs wouldn't work. That being said, you can't force someone to see meaning where there is none. Instead of letting kids in literature class draw their own conclusions from books that are good analysis (Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka is a great example of this. There is obvious Something being said, and being tasked with putting to words your thoughts could be very fun!) they hold the kids' hands and force them to write about conclusions that the teacher's have come to.

This is not analytical thinking because you aren't thinking. You're bullshitting. People pleasing. Trying to get a good grade and get your homework over with. You aren't engaging with the text, so the curtains being blue for ANY REASON, even if the reason is Just Because, isn't something you are putting thought to.

The answer is Schrodinger's Curtains. Sometimes you will deduce that it is nothing, other times you will find a clue the author left for you. To say that thinking the curtains is blue for a reason is overthinking discourages thinking. To say that the curtains are always blue for a reason also discourages thinking. There is no blanket answer because every piece of media is so vastly different. Different genres and different stories will require different levels of engagement. A cheesy romance isn't telling you that the main character's car is going to get hit because she wore yellow that day and the car that hits her is also yellow, but a character who always wears bright colors wearing black in a mystery novel might be suspicious!

But this is a trend with EVERYTHING. Everything is counterculture. We are in our "said isn't dead, you idiot" phase of the world, but eventually too many books are going to overuse said, we'll go back to "said is dead," and then people with oppose it, and it'll back and forth again and again until the sun explodes. This is why nuance matters.

it's interesting to see what parts of media consumption and analysis have been ruined by the education system. a constant, bitter back and forth with teaching of the past that were flawed.

Meanwhile donnie and bros dont see it that that. They see leo as equal, even without wings, they never once thought of it as leaving him behind. Because hes their brother, theyd NEVER leave him behind.

As for your question: Absolutely, yes, that moment struck Leo down to his core — but not like. Personally. He knows Donnie didn’t mean it like that! Realistically, he understands that his brothers/sister care just as much about him as he does about them. They’d never purposefully leave him behind!! At the end of the day, he trusts that, should he ever get seriously knocked down, his family would turn right back around to help him get back up.

But he still has a MAJOR barrier that he sees between them. One that Donnie AND April are now able to literally fly over. And now that he’s outnumbered, that wall feels even higher than before. He’s not alone, not ever, but it certainly feels like it sometimes…

And all of that is exactly why he doesn’t want to say anything. He not only feels a little silly to have this impossible dream in the first place (his hoard is literally birds and butterflies and shit, that’s so weird and pathetic, isn’t it???), but he doesn’t WANT them to worry about him. He doesn’t want them to turn tail and come back just to make sure he’s keeping up with them. He can’t hold them back like that!

It’s better to pretend he’s on the same level, train himself into the ground (even literally if that’s what it takes) to prove he’s on the same level, make them focus on his stellar swimming skills that are (to them) on par to their flying, than for them to ever realize that all he’ll ever do is look up at them from below.

Also, yes, after Dee made his first fully functioning flight pack, they all went on a quick flight around the city. April was the one to suggest they move it to the ocean so Leo could at least keep up with them and cheer them on…

Pebbles hating on Sun? I'm here for it. I love your version of Suns so much because it just encapsulates all their flaws that people often ignore. Is this my Pebbles bias speaking? Yes absolutely. Nobody LETS Pebbles be angry towards Suns when he has every right to. They just let the anger be outweighed or completely ignored in the favor of Pebbles own screwups.

I want to see Pebbles come into his own, decide he has worth as a living person, and there is value in living. Then, as someone who values his OWN worth, realize that Suns was toxic. That their friendship and mentorship was toxic. Let him be angry and let him cut that out of his life so he can focus on righting his own wrongs (which Pebbles does canonically anyways).

Realistically, Sun's and Pebble's friendship would never be the same. Even if Pebbles forgave Suns, I can't see their relationship being anything but strained. Moon and Pebble's situation cannot be compared to this since Moon is A. extremely forgiving/patient and B. her collapse was an accident on Pebble's part. She was angry yes but chose to rekindle her relationship with Pebbles in the end.

Five Pebbles is a completely different person from Moon and has a right to handle his mentorship with Suns in HIS way. So yeah, I cannot see off the string Pebbles doing anything but trying to heal from what Suns did to him (while also dealing with his own guilt).

Over half of the bears in the world are American Black Bears, and Being scared of an American Black Bear is the same nearly the same level of silly as being scared of a white tail deer , Yeah it is technically a large mammal and therefore potentially dangerous but come on, just keep your distance ( though it will probably flee if it can, ”) and keep walking. Some Other bears like sun bears, giant pandas, and spectacled bears are even safer.

Sloth bear attacks ( defensive, There diet is like half plants half insects )are common, I’m not sure how to stack them against other bears though because India just has so many people

Asian black bears are between american black bears and brown bears in their tendency to go after non-insect prey, they also have a reputation from like age-of-imperialism white hunters as more ferocious than brown bears? Not sure whether I believe that?

Brown bears ( grizzly’s being the mainland north american subspecies)are very dangerous, second largest species, tend to fight instead of flee ( partially because poor tree climbers?) regularly hunt large animals like elk calves, and especially if they are acclimated to humans and associate humans to food( trash), very dangerous, pick the man

Polar bears, almost entirely carnivorous, largest “land” predator, they consider humans Food pretty much universally in a way no other animal does except maybe some crocodile species , black

The thing of course is we get our pop culture Idea of “ Bears” mainly from Europe, which only Has Brown Bears and polar bears, which are atypically dangerous if not the 2 most dangerous bear species.

Thank you for more bear facts! Now I have more bear facts than I know what to do with, that is until I encounter one in the wild and want to know the correct level of fearing-for-my-life. Or if I want to rethink my judgment of the (for the moment still making the rounds as a very popular meme) "man or bear" test, and say that averaging over all types of bear, the danger from a bear might be negligible enough (well, modulo considerations like how bears are distributed geographically, and how bear populations compare) that I should choose the bear for my daughter to find in the woods. Mea culpa, I was probably wrong to assume that a man is the safer option, mainly because bears are apparently a lot less dangerous on average than most of us assume.

If you [general audience "you"] can't tell from my tone, I still hold that the "man or bear" test is obnoxious and, outside of highlighting a highly specific and narrow aspect of gender dynamics, is not the knock-down feminist argument the internet seems to think it is. Sorry, this isn't aimed at the asker, bear facts are cool. Maybe a good thing to come out of this new meme is that we'll all wind up learning a lot more about bears in the surrounding discourse, because God knows it's not going to lead to anything constructive in the arena of gender issues or social justice discourse.

He’s pushed ahead by Tulin’s wind, flying across the water at a speed she’s never seen before. It’s powerful, it’s brave — it’s everything Sidon’s worked to become. The wave only grows until it’s enough force for Sidon to pull the water skywards, completely blocking the Demon King’s attack. The water drowns out the gloom, leaving them in a bubbling mix on the floor. The gloom sizzles against the cold water, fighting back, but it’s a useless endeavor. She laughs, both in pride and slight shock, and Sidon grins her way, all teeth.
