Today we are talking about orbulon's eyeballs

A question that nobody cares about is what is orbulon's color vision like? He is obviously adapted for low light conditions (white/translucent color, can't function without completely opaque sunglasses) so he wouldnt really need to see most of the colors that terrestrial earth creatures can. We know for a fact that he can see red because he has a microgame in diy that has you select a red vs. white shape. This is interesting to me because on earth deep sea creatures, if they have any color vision at all, tend to be more sensitive to blue light because red light doesn't reach deep ocean depths. (Comparing him to benthic animals and not cave animals because most animals in dark cave habitats are blind and we know he's not.) In fact red color vision is comparatively rare in the animal kingdom. Here are some spitball reasons why animals might want to see red

Seeing when fruit is ripe (e.g. primates)

Pollination (e.g. hummingbirds)

Predation (e.g. snakes, mosquitos*)

Orbulon to me is not a pollinator. Nor is he a fruit guy. To me a squishy smart invertebrate that eats hamburgers is a predator.

*HERES THE THING THOUGH. i mentioned that snakes and mosquitos can see red but i lied. Snakes' actual eyes can only see blue and green shades, and very poorly, but snakes with heat pits can detect infrared thermal radiation from their prey. Likewise, mosquitos have dogshit vision but when they are presented with olfactory stimuli from their prey, namely carbon dioxide from stank breath, they are able to detect and show a preference for certain warm colors like red and orange. We all know orbulon's eyesight to be quite dogshit. However, like the snake, and like the mosquito, orbulon does have a far more competent sensory organ to augment his dogshit eyes

now the idea of orbulon's species having infrared/red color "vision" to detect prey is very tempting, but that also hinges on the assumption that his prey (or the prey of his ancestors) would be warm blooded. But thats crazy

so Instead im going to posit that maybe he doesnt need the Schlorb for colors at all. What if his eyes are a different kind of fucked up.

i alluded to orbulon being like a cephalopod earlier. Something you might know about the stars of the cephalopod world (cuttlefish and to a lesser extent octopodes) is the fact that they can change their color extremely well to camouflage. What if i told you they cant actually see color. Ok sit with that for a sec. now what if i told you that they actually can see color. I didnt lie to you im just being needlessly obtuse. Cuttlefish eyes only have one photoreceptor type, and so their "color vision" is likely monochramatic. How Ever. Light bends differently underwater. Each color has its own wavelength, and if a lens is not able to "focus" on every color equally it creates chromatic distortion, which causes some colors to be blurrier or more in focus than others. Even though the cuttlefish can't "see" these colors the same way we do, its eyes can differentiate these different wavelengths based on their distortion bu rapidly focusing and unfocusing its eyes at different depths. Let's take a look at cuttlefish eyes

The cuttlefish has weirdly curved eyes, which can change to a W-shape in higher light conditions and become more ovular in low-light conditions. It's hypothesized that the curvature of the cuttlefish eye causes chromatic aberration to become more extreme, thus aiding in their detection of different light wavelengths. You know who else has curved fucked up eyes

Nothing we know about orbulons color vision has changed because he is a cartoon character and i am insane.

So the Official Dropout Preview tells us we’re getting into Kipperlilly’s backstory this week, which means it’s time to go full Pepe Silvia on the Rat Grinders and try to figure out their motivations before all our theories and predictions collapse like a house of cards getting smashed into during a shrimp jump!

So Kipperlilly has anger issues and some sort of fixation with Riz Gukgak. She’s also pretty clearly the leader of the Rat Grinders; I’m betting it was her call to kill Gavin and Buddy Dawn during the Last Stand. I’m also betting that she’s the one who killed Lucy Frostblade in the woods when she died.

Given that last little bit of theory, it’s completely possible that the rest of the Rat Grinders are terrified of her and are going along with things in order to not get murdered themselves for getting in the way of Kipperlilly’s obsession.

On top of that, three of the remaining Rat Grinders have some specific contextual shit going on that may be affecting their judgement:

Oisin is a wizard, and like Adaine needed to come up with a LOT of money to afford wizarding classes this year. Unlike Adaine, he is still in the good graces of the family money, so resources weren’t an issue. The thing is, though? The source of that scratch is a dragon’s hoard, and Brennan recently offhandedly confirmed (via Fabian’s tattoo) that dragon madness was still a thing in Spyre. As such, since Oisin is explicitly using a dragon’s hoard as a resource this season, it’s entirely possible that he’s suffering from dragon madness this season and isn’t in complete control of his faculties. He might legitimately be a decent Dragonborn who’s friendly and into Adaine while simultaneously not being able to connect the dots about how his other actions are hurting her and her friends.

Mary Anne Skuttle is admittedly my blorbo this season, so I know I’m biased. That being said, she don’t give a shit and she’s somewhere on the spectrum like a lot of us, so it’s not unreasonable that she simply hasn’t noticed yet that Kipperlilly’s plans are sinister as fuck.

Finally, Reuben has some sort of messed up dynamic going on with Jace Stardiamond, to the point that his own (quite sketchy uncle) has raised concerns. Could there be some manipulation going on that’s pushing him in this direction?

Ivy Embra, on the other hand, does not have any obvious reason for fucking around with Fabian’s heart and his party. Her I find to be really suspicious, and I would not be surprised to find out she’s actually been pulling strings this whole time.

So! I look forward to finding out how entertainingly wrong I am on these points this week; I do hope I’ve called at least one thing right in my analysis here!

Yapping about Jolán and Anna

Because them being Nox feels extremely important but slept on especially because the Nox invented the fingerslayer blade

IM WELCOME TO OTHERS INPUT HERE! I'D LOVE TO CHAT THEORIES! I'm just shooting shit at the fan below the cut

Like I'm not committing to anything cause I am still cooking. I'm not even cooking. I'm at the grocery store with the vague concept of a meal in mind but I don't know what to buy yet. I'm trying to bake a cake but I'm in the soda aisle.

So to start they are definitely Nox, monochrome in skin tone, wear and use things with "night" and are stated to be born "deep underground"

The other interesting thing about them is that there were more than just Jolán and Anna at some point in the land of shadow. There was clearly at least one more, hence the corpse in Bonny Gaol but potentially others that were likely there with a purpose.

Their fingerprinted armor is interesting. They all wear this. It doesn't seem specific to them working for Ymir and also is created to keep them in the dark. The only other specific fingerprint things are frenzy related. The fingerprint shield also says "Part of the tomb of an ancient god, the Readerless Fingers relayed their message through these imprints, said to be the very seeds from which frenzy first sprouted"

I'm not connecting them to frenzy but I may be connecting them to this ancient god? Maybe? The Nox had to make the finger slayer blade out of SOME GOD'S DEAD BODY!!!!

I'm going full Pepe Silvia tbh.

So we know the Nox do not like the Greater Will, not even just the Golden Order, they hated the Greater Will before it was cool to do that. They wanted to harm the greater will or one of its vessels so they made the fingerslayer blade from a corpse. The corpse of what? People have drawn the connection between the fingerslayer blades appearance to the sacred relic sword which is also a spine double helix. So it was likely the corpse of one of these vessels. Potentially the aforementioned or one not even important enough to mention

Then they were punished and cast underground, away from the stars that they worshipped and saw their fate in.

From the game "(the Nox) were banished deep underground, forced to live under a false night sky in eternal anticipation of the coming age of stars, and of their Lord of Night"

So on to my actual "why is Jolán a simp?" interpretation. That's why. She and her people have lived waiting for the stars and a Lord of night. I'm convinced she thinks she's found it. With Ymir she can see the stars. She follows him and his wishes because she believes she's found what the Nox are searching for.

Did her and Anna disagree on this? Was Anna still, as Nox originally were, set on killing the vessels of the greater will and finger source (so Metyr?) is that why they were in the land of shadow to begin with?

The interesting thing about them specifically is how their description differs from the armor of the sworhands of night as a whole "Jolán and Anna were born in a cold, dark gaol, where they were raised, deprived of light, to be Swordhands of Night. Thus were they cultivated to become the most terrifying masters of their blades, though the burden of the deed left their hearts frail and pliant."

Is the deed becoming swordhands? So they have weak hearts and are easily manipulated.

For what reason were they in the Gaol? Were they born in Bonny Gaol or in some other random Gaol somewhere else?

Were they born there intentionally to be executioners? How did this happen to these Nox? Presumably they were manipulated into things they did not wish to do there. What state mentally were Jolán and Anna in and how did they get out of that life? Anna being a recusant tarnished hunter may suggest she was/is still doing this job... But for Ymir now? But recusant fingers also mean something very specific in terms of rykard/eiglay/snakes. The other weird thing is we don't get her puppet off of his person like we do Seluvis. Her body seems to still have the puppet interactive item with it, whereas with Seluvis the physical puppet summon and the body are separate items because he's using them. We also can't take Anna's puppet if we interact with her body after killing her but before getting Joláns ash.

Also them being Nox and sisters is interesting as the Nox puppets were sisters who became them willingly, Nox being the only people who did do this intentionally.

I think Anna is probably closer to how she originally was post leaving the Gaol. She may have disagreed with Jolán and Ymir and thus was dealt with, her body now being used to guard the passage to the final finger ruin or there's a reason this is intentional but Jolán not knowing about it makes that unlikely. But it' didn't seem like she thought Anna was dead, also because of how Ymir talks about her in present tense. Its really unfortunate she won't tell us more about how she feels but it seems like she trusts whatever happened was for the best. Again to their hearts being pliable. I think it's nice she's found her stars and her purpose but that doesn't mean I don't think Ymir might also be a master manipulator. Like potentially one of the most efficient manipulators in game if true??? To the point no one has anything bad to say?? Manipulate. Mansplain. Mother. I guess. (But like I'm also an Ymir simp. So, much like Jolán, only his words will do. Sorry for being weak of heart I guess but I don't think I can be convinced he wasn't nice. All evidence points to him being nice he just has goals, idk)

But like to what benefit with Jolán? She's kinda just a knight in his service to the same extent as Taniths Crucible Knight. He's got the marionettes all sorcerers do and might know how to make a puppet? Unclear why he would go to extents to intentionally recruit Jolán.

He talks about her like she recently befell tragedy but also like Anna is alive so Anna isn't the tragedy he's talking about. Is he talking about the knight in Bonny Gaol or is it just the total circumstances of her life?

So anyways that's where I am right now and tbh I don't know where I am at all. I'll go look at Bonny Gaol later and maybe explore nokron and nokstella.

Cara and Miguel Starter Pack

So let me start from the beginning one last time. Once upon a time, Cara was yeeted into Earth-928 thanks to some fucky Lovecraftian nonsense from her fucky Lovecraftian dimension. After meeting Miguel, who was a baby Spider-Man back then, Cara was denied access back to her world thanks to some sibling disputes. She spun a little web of lies for Miguel’s then-fianceé Dana, and they took pity on her and decided to help her out. I’m pretty sure you know the rest. They moved her in with Dana, saved the city, humorously acclimated Cara to the city, buried Dana, got married to get Cara a green card, and ended up actually falling in love.

This works off of a timeline of events that I established myself and it's subject to change if more information from the films comes out. General consensus is that Miguel was born in 2070, so he was 29 when he got his powers IN 2099. But since he’s 35 in AtSV, that means about six years have passed since then.

Cara is five foot even. She’s a tiny little thing who has the love of a fucking giant. As the tall one, Miguel is often asked to help get things from places she can’t reach. But instead of grabbing the thing like a normal person, Miguel grabs Cara under her arms, lifts her up, and holds her up so she’s the perfect height to grab the thing herself. He does this everywhere. The apartment, the Spider Society, the grocery store, his office at Alchemax, etc.

Cara likes to wear a helmet instead of a mask because she’s being tossed around constantly and feels safer with that kind of head protection. Miguel, however, fucking hates the helmet and takes every opportunity to show Cara his Pepe Silvia board about why she should trade it out for the mask he made her. Cara will sit patiently through all of it, and then she’ll go “Would you like me to crack my head open?” And he shuts up for another week. (Oh, he also made her current suit all by himself.)

These two are like...so gossipy Mostly Miguel, but Cara indulges him a lot. Ofc they have those bedtime pillow talks where they're both reading or Miggy's on his laptop and they'll go on about something someone did that day. They'll be swinging through the city and talking shit about Internet drama or some dweeb from a restaurant. Miguel will hit her up on his lunch hour and give her all the Alchemax tea, complete with examining his nails like the mean popular girl from a Disney Channel Original Movie. If he thinks someone's eavesdropping, he'll start talking in really fast Spanish so they can't get what he's saying. Needless to say, Cara had to learn Spanish really fast just to keep up with him.

They both adore snuggling. Miguel is like Cara’s weighted blanket and she can’t sleep without him anymore because he just envelops her (Fig 1). He’ll spoon her, he’ll let her sleep on his chest and hold her there. He’ll do everything short of actually sleeping on top of her (Fig 2) and he does that at least once a month. However, he always wakes up at 4 AM to use the bathroom, and Cara always wakes up because she no longer has her big warm blanket man. Thankfully, she goes right back to sleep once he comes back to bed. It’s to the point where they have trouble sleeping without the other in the bed because Cara needs the weight on her and Miguel needs something to cuddle.

Since Cara and her sisters got some fucky eldritch nonsense going on with their blood, they…I guess a bit more compatible with other dimensions. They can’t travel between them at will, of course, but they don’t glitch because they got that interdimensional cosmic horror in em. When Miguel somehow starts monitoring the ItSV movie, he’s flabbergasted when he sees the other Spiders glitching and he goes to Cara like “these people are literally dying and it hasn’t been a week, how the shock did you survive SIX YEARS”.

Cara’s actually good at a lot of household chores, so she offers to help around the apartment when she isn’t working. And thanks to Spider nonsense, she can get really thorough with it. Miguel has come home multiple times to see her standing on the ceiling changing light bulbs or cleaning something on the ceiling. It saves him tons since he got to opt out of the building's cleaning service, but it still gives him a heart attack every now and then.

They have had long arguments about whether or not killing spiders counts as murder since they’re both half-spider. Cara scoops them up on a piece of paper and puts them out the window or something. Miguel just puts them out of their misery.

As I’m sure everyone reading this has deduced, these two are a very...hands-on couple. They have been banned from being in the Spider Society’s gym at the same time because of it. As in "when one of them goes in, the other is automatically locked out" kind of banned. Thank Peter B for that -- as in, genuinely thank him because he's saved a lot of minors from seeing a couple spider mutants getting freaky.

Not exactly shippy, but Miguel and Cara's sister Cadence do not get along. At all. They hate each other with a burning passion. Cadence is positive he's that archetypical dudebro who's going to drag Cara down, and Miguel is rightfully pissed that she's hostile to him for existing. Cara unfortunately has to get in the middle of them and keep things calm, and thankfully Miguel is willing to make an effort. Cadence is less than accommodating though, so the occasional cross-dimensional family visits are always interesting.

Dem Hi! I'm back with a bit of an unhinged ask here:

Im sure this doodle gives you an idea where this is going. I was just making myself some tea, and I was thinking about Lovers In Eden (i was going to listen to a song called Eastward of Eden by Amelia Day,hence the association). And Since I am a film student, a writer and i took script classes as my subject las trimester, i offer you this unhinged recap of my conspiracy theory. So LIE (Lover in Eden) introduces us to the idea that Strife killed Y/N after a bloodlust outburst,right? Well, at first i didnt think too much of it, but then the chapter ends with the four on earth, which felt a little disembodied from the prologue. Which brings me to the hipothesis which is: Strife's lover is on earth,reborn without their memories. My proof for this theory is this: 1) We know that in the darksiders universe there is such thing as a well of souls, we know they go through the kingdom of the dead to repent and then be reborn through the well. 2) you wouldntve put the line "Love slayer" if it wasnt relevant to the plot. (Writing often times includes phrasing things a certain way to hint at other things). 3) Why would you close the chapter where you did? What relevance does the fact that the four are now on earth have? Simple, Strife will find a reborn,survivor Y/N and will fall in love with them (and have a crisis once he realizes its a whole like soulmates finding eachother again situation) 4) and last (which came to me as i wrote this) if you were to center the story only on Strife and the reader without the reader being reborn, you wouldve just started it from the medieval age/wherever strife met the reader and not end with the four on earth. Of course dont gotta tell me if im right,dont want to spoil the whole fic anyways. But I felt the need to share this with you. (I genuienly felt like the pepe silvia meme). And yeah, one offshoot of all this is that maybe the reader isnt a reborn soulmate, and that the prologue could just set up this inherit guilt and fear towards love that Strife has. First off, I love your pepe doodle! It’s so perfect. In fact I find it so funny that I made this a little bit ago myself... (As much as I'd love to rant and such about my AUs' lore and headcanons, I made this for shits and gigs)

I absolutely adore hearing theories readers have about my fics. (Sorry this has taken FOR-EV-ER to respond to, I'm terrible with replying at times)

I also fucking LOVE that you're a film student, I think that makes this whole theory situation even better because I do tend to have a very movie-esque thought process when writing. (Blooper reel and BTS footage rent free in my head)

And I think I've got the mind stewing a bit with that recent post, Flowers From My Lover. Without hopefully giving away anything, you do have some valid and interesting points in your theories and has me going, "Oh Jer is good little detective." You get a cookie for your theory skills!

There are indeed certain key details and clues I put in on purpose and it's so interesting to see what readers pick up on. And yes, the well of souls is involved to some extent in this plotline, but not in the way you might think...

I also find your choice of the word "reborn" interesting. Very obviously and right out the gates, I will say that yes, reader is alive in this story. But it's the manner in which reader's alive and again, the reborn theory is interesting and again, possibly not in a way you're expecting. Though it seems rather simple, I will tease that there is... quite a bit more to it than what's at face value.

And I wanna tease this little clue too because it is one of my favourites: It's interesting how the fic's title has a double meaning in plain sight...

I love myself a good Durge  &  Gortash pre tadpole backstory, and I think I never talked about how important that bond is to her. We all know  &  love our stupidly hot ice bitch who has massive commitment issues ( urges kicked in at the wrong moment, killing her first love :/ ) , and thus Esteri rather has no friends, no partnership. She would rather not live through that again. For her own sanity.

The whole partnership with Gortash was not planned to be anything more than professional, not friendship or anything beyond that either. Business. No big deal because, as a hired assassin pre absolute, she knew how to separate this, when to draw the line. However, I can somewhat see how they got along well slowly. So slowly, in fact, she didn't even realize. ( I will go as far as to say it was pretty similar to when she had her ex-girlfriend ). To think they ended up having a talk about the whole urges stuff and her coming clean with all the shit bonded her to him. He knew her now. And not in a worshiping way like she was used to since she was a child in the temple of Bhaal, but as an equal. And that is so important to her, all by accident.

Do not get me wrong, I like the idea of Durge and Gort having had the craziest affair pre game, making each other worse, but for Esteri, I have that hc that it was more like healing than getting more awful. She was on a path to getting better. So much more than some fling or whatever. I can't even imagine her sleeping with him back then ( she has PTSD, mind you ). Esteri must have strongly believed he was/is her soulmate, which is tragically funny because that was a normal friendship that was forming.. 

That girl endured so so so much in her early life. Countless churches of all kinds tortured her ( basically trying to exorcise the evil out of her, which is massively painful as a literal spawn of a murder god ) , and now there is someone accepting you, not blaming your existence, but showing respect  &  going on with their day. And after finally picking up on these feelings, of course she isolates herself for weeks. because she recognizes these icky little emotions starting to bubble up  &  Esteri really does not want to kill her soulmate™ by accident. Don't worry, they figured it out somehow. Still, very scary, probably very angsty time. But hm, that's what I have in mind happened between them  &  why she wants to go back to this old routine. That was comfort for her. He was comfort.

Thought I'd post some more propaganda, since people are really getting mad at ONLY /u/Spez for this. For the people in the back that are still using Reddit- this is ultimately the reason why I left Reddit.

TL;DR: Yes, /u/spez is the CEO of Reddit, but now he's beholden to the true owners of Reddit- Literal white supremacists, Chinese businesses looking to subvert American democratic values, and businesses that are desperately looking for new ways to make money after a pandemic has gutted the people dry of all the money it could take.

Reddit was originally founded by /u/Spez (real name Steve Huffman), Alexis O'Hanion, and Aaron Swartz (RIP). In 2006, Conde Nast bought Reddit. So, if you read Vogue, Pitchfork, Wired, Vanity Fair, & the New Yorker, you may have gotten some of the same content owned by the same company- just through a magazine rather than Reddit. Also, since June 2020, Conde Nast has claimed that their advertising revenue has gone down 45% have gone down dramatically since the pandemic, alongside the cancellation of major publications by Conde Nast. Buut in 2017, Reddit was made into an independent subsidiary by Advance Publications. Sounds like an innocent enough name, until you look at which companies these lovely people own:

That Charter Communication, is just a fancy name for the lovely ISP known as Spectrum- Better known to some of our older folks as Time Warner Cable. You know, one of the ISPs so hated in the United States that they actively changed their name so that people wouldn't recognize them doing their dirty work again?

Isn't it interesting that one of the main complaints by Huffman is that Reddit isn't getting it's due in advertising revenue? Huh. I wonder where he's getting that from. But that's only one section of the shit sandwich. Let's talk about some of the lovely* investors that Reddit's had on aboard since 2006. The list is.... interesting. 2014: A group of investors, including Marc Andressen (an investor in nearly all of the major social media networks that exist), Peter Thiel (a literal white supremacist), and for some reason, Snoop Dogg and fucking Jared Leto. 2017: Advance Publications buys Conde Nast and subsequently Reddit, raising its valuation to about $1.8 billion. 2019: Tencent (you know, the CHINESE VIDEO GAME COMPANY THAT HAS BANNED PLAYERS FROM THEIR GAMES FOR SUPPORTING HONG KONG DEMOCRACY DEMONSTRATIONS) buys a 5% stake in the company. Did I mention that Tencent is also the largest gaming company in the world? 2021: Fidelity Investments(??? an insurance firm and mutual fund????) decides to add another $700 million to the pot, giving them a whole stake as well too. So, let's tie this all together. on the menu this time is Poly and Constant's Imperial Vacation From Hell, or "oh god, I just wanted to make sure one of my favourite guys was going to be okay, but somehow I ended up sending over two dozen increasingly frantic messages to the discord while everyone else was asleep, pepe silvia-style"

I'm gonna stick this under a readmore as it gets pretty long and image heavy, and potentially contains big spoilers for upcoming episodes, and I know some people want to watch the show completely unspoiled. all theories are based on official promotional videos already released by apple. no leaks or insider book knowledge here!

so I sort of stumbled into this theory in three stages, and I'm going to stick to that template as I talk through my analysis here, starting with:

Part 1 - I'm Genre Aware Now And Everything Hurts

let's be real, nobody saw Hari's (apparent) death coming in the last episode. death is far less of a concern in this show than in others, as the narrative all but guarantees the long-term survival of its core characters. Hari (apparently) dying so quickly after having his body restored was a massive shock, and jolted us out of the complacency that the show had lulled us into.

when the title and description of next week's episode dropped, fan concern quickly turned to Poly, who @gaal-dornick and @aquitainequeen noted has started to exhibit the classic symptoms of Tragic Mentor Figure Disease:

Poly's death seemed so likely that I was beginning to dread the coming episodes, but something was nagging at me; I had a vague memory of seeing a trailer where he was on Terminus and in a situation that we haven't yet seen him in. maybe he does survive his brush with Brother Day, then? I started rewatching all of the trailers, teasers, and character spotlight videos that Apple released in the run-up to season two, and came across something way wilder than I'd expected:

Part 2 - Star Bridge 2: Council Boogaloo

I found another camera shot of Poly and Constant's apparent execution in the Brother Dawn character spotlight video - note the pillars in front of the crowd, the flags in the back, and Dawn, Sareth, Demerzel, Dusk, and Rue standing on the platform behind Day and the prisoners.

note also the onlookers in the maroon robes, who are also visible in the guillotine closeup I posted above...

...hey, it's the Galactic Council as seen in 2.06, with their GILF-y leader at the front in both scenes!

remember how terrified Cleon XII was of their judgement in the season one finale? we still don't know what their exact deal is, but they're clearly big cheeses politically if XII of all people is afraid of them:

let's see what happens in that shot, will we? ..... oh

... did an explosion just go off in the heart of Trantor and potentially take out the entire galaxy's government in one go???? (I mean, Empire are probably fine with their auras and nanobots and backups, but I'm not feeling too good about the Council's chances right now...)

wait - the pulse and shape that appear on the horizon bear a striking resemblance to the new Foundation whisper ships - especially Poly and Constant's ship, Spirit Rising, which is currently in the hands of Hober Mallow...

why did he take their ship, again?

holy fucking shit Hari Seldon you insane rat bastard (admiring, horrified, impressed). what have you DONE. a blade in case the religious hand of friendship doesn't work out, you say??

(sidenote: this was literally the Anacreon plan for the Invictus in the first season - the scale of the destruction would have been magnitudes worse due to the Invictus' size, but same concept)

honestly, I kind of hope the entire Council perishes in the Mallowpocalypse, if only because it would make this exchange in 2.06 deliciously ironic:

the worst detectives in the world finally found their shared braincell and made a deduction! I'm proud of them!

also, Glawen literally saw this coming in 2.04 and Bel brushed him off. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ sad!

regarding casualties - I think this shot from Trailer 1 is the aftermath of the blast. Day was standing much closer to the explosion than the rest of Empire and Dominion, and so would have taken more damage, aura or not. I also see Sareth, Rue (?), and Dawn - jury's out on whether being dead is the latest item added to Dusk's rapidly expanding list of problems?

a direct attack on Trantor would also explain why Day goes on a personal tour of the Outer Reach and ends up on Terminus, screaming for an audience with Hari Seldon (Trailer 1 again):

and hey, Poly's right behind him! he's Empire's best chance of getting a personal audience with the Prophet, after all. Poly also pops up in Day's character spotlight video, in what I'm guessing is the execution scene again, judging from the collar and the guard restraining him. it might even be the aftermath of the blast, since the shot is pretty chaotic and dusty looking. what's got him so upset?

... and it was at this moment that I realised that while Poly is present in the later Terminus scenes with Day, Brother Constant is not, and I started to worry that I'd been focusing on the wrong person the whole time, leading to...

Part 3 - What About Constant?

oh no. the question of Constant's safety has been hanging over both Poly and the viewer since 2.02. oh no

I thought I might have caught a glimpse of her in the Teaser 1 video - being restrained in the background as Day does his infamously-giffed-to-hell Big Steppy on Hober's throat - but I still wanted more concrete proof of her wellbeing.

and finally I found her in the Pillars of Foundation video, alive and well, but -

HER NECK!! HER NECK!!!

if Constant's life is just barely saved by Hober showing up in the nick of time to prevent her decapitation by an insane tyrant I will literally never be normal again. romance. that's romance. (also incredibly shitty of Vault!Hari to take her blind faith and turn her into a pawn for the Empire to slaughter, but I guess that's expected behaviour from him by now.)

... I was literally about to hit post on this theory, but I just realised; that scene in Teaser 1 where Day is facing down a bishop's claw... we all assumed he was being attacked by a wild beast in the Outer Reach - but what if he's lying in the ruins of the podium on Trantor, and the bishop's claw is a freed Beki going on a rampage? god I hope this happens. imagine being Emperor of the Galaxy, about to perform some casual executions before dinner, and suddenly you're flat on your ass with a Hell Dinosaur about to bite your face off. incredible scenes

and that's all I've got! TLDR; Hari knew that the emperors and Galactic Council would become increasingly paranoid and aggressive as the Empire contracted, and would jump at the chance to publicly end an attempted religious takeover by the "barbarian" Outer Reach. That mass gathering at the execution would be the perfect time to strike with a whisper ship, a technology which the Empire has no idea even exists. This enrages Day into visiting Terminus to deal with the Foundation in person, and potentially destabilises the Empire further if the Council have been wiped out. Empire's structure and dignity are decimated without a single shot being fired - and if there is going to be an eventual, physical war, the Foundation is now in a much better position to fight it.

again, this is just me making a theory and connecting everything together with red string etc etc. I haven't attempted to explain everything, such as the Spacers' or Riose's involvement, and have doubtless got some details wrong - but I'm really excited by how things are connecting and can't wait for next week's episode :}
