HOME IS WHAT ME MAKE IT; NOT WHAT IT'S DESIGNED TO BE
WORDS: 2.2K
FANDOM(S): Fallout 3
WARNINGS: Mothership Zeta spoilers, Mentions of Major Character Death, Themes of Isolation and Homesickness
NEOCITIES MIRROR
Now that we got that a-okay, I wanted to post the fic I wrote for the War Never Changes Fallout Fan Zine! [ Official Twitter ]
This zine was started by Chunklet with the goal of uniting the Fallout fandom in fundraising for the PCRF (Palestine Children's Relief Fund) ... and BOY DID IT WORK. The amount of pre-orders for the physical copy* were huge, and IIRC... totaled over $10k USD !!!!!
* Idk when digital pre-orders will start, but they will soon I'd imagine! Right now all the manufacturing stuff is being done :}
But with that said, here's a post-canon piece about my Lone Wanderer and one of my favorite side characters <3
Things could not have been any weirder. Genuinely! It was bad enough hearing whispers amidst the snow fallen camps about bright, blue lights lurking about the night sky. But to see them? To feel the tingling warmth radiating off of them? That was one thing. Feeling your muscles turn to mush, then waking up some hundreds of years later was another. And it. Was. Terrifying. Panic set into frozen bones. Eyes scanned the vicinity to land upon similar pods with very dissimilar folk. The one that’d stuck out most to Elliott, besides the young child who only just reached hip height, was what appeared to be another. A young person who claimed to be from the remnants of D.C., and seemed just as lost as he was.
But they, along with the others, made it through hell together. They fought off the strange spacemen. They navigated Mothership Zeta, or at least that was what they’d dubbed it, and took control of its helm. They, effectively, saved Earth. Then, one by one, they went their merry ways. Some of them had, anyway.
Paulson, the man who’d lost his wife and boy and came from a time long before them, found himself in the Capital Wastes as a daring desperado—well, truthfully he’d found himself bounty hunting. Going after the real daring desperados of the wastes and protecting innocent folk who found themselves outside settlement walls. A real noble cause. Somah, one of the first people the lone wanderer came across, found herself eager to return to the wastes. Space life wasn’t for her, and she had other obligations which needed attending to. What they were was unclear, but whatever it was, the lone wanderer never came across her again. And then there were those that stayed. Toshiro Kago, the samurai, had remained on Mothership Zeta, as it was an odd place of comfort. Generational differences aside, the lone wanderer and he had built a steadfast bond through steady communication, with their own dialect of Japanese just understandable enough to mesh with his. So, he’d figured staying with Elliott would be his safest bet, if the stories they swapped were anything to go by. Sally, the younger child of the bunch, also stayed with Elliott aboard the starship. It was safer among the stars, and she couldn’t deny the awestruck wonder that’d washed over her once she’d seen how unique the technology aboard was. Plus, if parts needed fixing, and they were lodged in some vent… There was no way one of the adults would be able to reach it. It was like a game, a jovial task that her—and her alone—could complete. Then there was the lone wanderer. Tomo was their name. Otsune Tomo. A peculiar individual with an even more intriguing past. Supposedly born in one of those vaults, then forced out by circumstance at the meek age of 19. Traveling alone across the remnants of Washington and its surrounding areas, all to find their father, who’d suffered a horrendous fate shortly after their reunion. A real tragic case, but a real trooper nonetheless. They’d briefly returned to the wastes to finish what they’d started, but as soon as they were fitted with a clean bill of health, they’d returned to the crash site where it all began.
And Elliott couldnt have been happier.
The two would talk for hours, with Tomo catching the pre-War soldier up on everything going on below. Likewise, Elliott would tell them all about the different things he’s seen hovering above Earth, and all about the skeleton crew’s shenanigans. Yet the more and more he’d heard about life down below, he realized that maybe he’d like to go back. To feel the irradiated soil under his boots and breathe in the sights of the places he’d traveled to whilst under the government’s payroll. He was homesick, and terribly so. So one day, whilst Toshiro and Sally studied the view from the port, Elliott decided to broach the topic whilst Tomo inspected their Pip-Boy for notes they’d taken.
“Say… You ever, y’know, miss your home? I mean, I know you and your vault left off on some pretty bad terms, but… surely ya miss it, right?”
Brown eyes peered past the flickering display.
“Of course I do. Why?”
A pause. Hesitance lingering in his tone.
“Well, I… I know things ain’t the same down there. But with the boys gone and this,” he gestured around them vaguely, voice softening, “being all I have left of them… I think I miss home.”
The words struck Tomo hard enough for them to abandon their search and set the Pip-Boy down on the console beside them. They’d known that feeling more than anything. The only relic of their vault life was, frankly, the very device they’d just set aside. That, and the subtle inking that sat below their shirt collar. A permanent remnant of the trouble they’d get into with Amata in their earlier teen years. A permanent etching of the very thing that, beyond the realm of the vault, kept their mother so near. XXI: VI. 21:6. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end…’ They could still hear the reverence in their father’s voice as he’d recited the passage to them; it sunk their heart. Wordlessly, they sat forward and set a gentle hand on Elliott’s arm.
“I just don’t know what I’d do. I mean, I got Sally to take care of now, and I ain’t really familiar with D.C. I’d been, but I got no way of knowing how to get back to my home. Oklahoma’s a pretty far trek, and there’s no transport system. Least you ain’t said there were… It probably isn’t even safe there anymore, anyway.” He sighed. “I just… I want to do the right thing by her, y’know?”
“I know.” They patted his arm, nodding. “I know people that Sally could stay with. They’d keep her safe, and she’d be able to access tech that’s… less advanced than this, but it’d be new all the same.”
“Really? You’re sure?” Enthusiasm trickled back to him; revitalized his hope in things. Tomo smiled. “I’m sure. I’ve told you about them, the Brotherhood? They’re the ones that helped me do… everything. Saved me after that deal with the Enclave; saved me again, when I’d activated the Purifier. They’ve got children, too. It’s the safest place she could be.”
“Yeah—yeah, I remember ya sayin’ something about them. Alright. Yeah. When do we head out?”
[…]
The air was stiff when boots hit the ground. A burning sensation wracking the soldier’s lungs as he’d breathed in the lingering radiation for the first time. It hit Sally, too, bringing about a series of surprised coughs which immediately caught the wanderer’s attention. They stopped and crouched to her level, setting a gentle hand on her back to offer a series of steady pats. Around them, Brotherhood soldiers simply continued on their ways, some breaking off to enter the surrounding wings whilst others loitered about.
“I’m okay!” She chirped, taking a deep breath and exhaling to relieve any unease. “It’s not so bad, right?”
A nod. “There are some areas that are still heavily irradiated,” Tomo began. “But many of them are liveable. If you start to feel sick while Elliott and I are gone, I want you to talk to Dr. Li, okay? She’ll help you.”
“Is she nice?”
“Of course. But she’s busy, too. If she can’t help you, then look for Sarah. She’s a very close friend of mine.” There was hesitation on Sally’s face; it didn’t escape Tomo. So they leaned in and grinned. “Want to know a secret about Sarah?”
An enthusiastic gasp, and Sally leaned in too.
“Sarah is the Elder’s daughter. If you ask her nicely… she might show you some of the cool technology they’ve collected.”
“Woah! Really?” Sally beamed and drew back, rocking on her heels.
“Really. Now, we won’t be gone too long, yeah? A couple of days at most, since it’s a bit of a hike to D.C.” Tomo offered a reassuring look as they stood. Sally gave them an enthusiastic wave and sped off to explore all that she could. Like her, the remaining duo quickly prepped their gear and set off on adventure.
The ruins of D.C. still stood before them; still towered over the desecrated streets below. They, too, had their own scarring from the event to end it all, but they stood. And that fascinated Elliott. Blue eyes were wide with wonder as he could point out and recall everything as it was some two-hundred plus years ago. Detail to Tomo how pristinely white the monuments were, their contours shining amidst a blue sky and green grass. Now, they were much duller. Blending in to an almost invisible degree, if not for their sheer size. It was a troublesome sight for the former medic; one that quickly humbled that otherworldly wonder and soured it. Home wasn’t all it was meant to be, it’d seemed, and if a resourceful city like this could be reduced to atoms… He shivered at the thought of what little ol’ Stillwater would look like. And Tomo noticed the shudder, watching as he’d stepped forward and parked himself on the seats of the Museum of Technology. Flushed cheeks puffed as one came to rest on the palm of his hand, elbow balancing on his knee as he’d slumped forward. The exhaustion from walking through the downtown area was more than enough to prompt the gesture, though something more was clearly weighing on him. Tomo lingered on their feet, shifting their weight from side to side as they watched blond locks fall into the man’s face.
“It really is all gone, ain’t it?” He uttered. “‘sides the little bits you can find rummagin’ the rubble.”
“It… has been a while.” They started hesitantly. “But that doesn’t mean everything’s gone.”
Elliott peeked. “How’d’ya figure? Look at it. It’s… I mean, I guess because this was the center of America back in the day, it makes sense it’d be the most impacted. But even when you’re up in the stars, you can’t hardly see nothin’ anymore. It’s all so… empty.” The wanderer found themselves parked beside them, shimmying off their backpack and rummaging about to produce two bottles of Aqua Pura. They extended one to Elliott, who’d accepted it without a second thought. The gesture brought a small smile to their lips, a lithe elbow coming to nudge his side.
“What—”
“That’s proof that not everything’s gone. All the irradiated water people were drinking before…” They paused, biting back the memories that the train of thought conjured; the sacrifices it took to produce that bottle. “The point is, just because things as you knew it were gone doesn’t mean everything has to stay gone. For decades, people looked at my father like he had three heads. Purifying all the water in D.C.? That was pure imagination. But now, people have it in their hands.”
Confusion sprawled across the man’s features, though a spark of recognition ignited in his gaze. Tomo smiled a little more, continuing.
“It’s tough to get used to, I know. When I first left the vault, I thought things were hopeless. That I’d never find my dad, or that I’d die out here because I had no idea what I was doing. But then I found Megaton, and the people inside it. I found Moira, and Simmons, and even Moriarty, even though he’s kind of…”
“A jerk?”
“Yeah, a jerk. But he still led me to Three Dog, and to Sarah. And they led me to my dad. People out here are different than they were before the war… probably…” They spared a glance and Elliott gave a lighthearted shrug. They were; they weren’t. “But at the end of the day, they just want the same things: Safety and community—to belong somewhere. And many of them are more than willing to put the effort in to build it; to rebuild the remnants.”
“Makin’ them something new?”
“Exactly.”
A slow sigh escaped Elliott as he fidgeted with the bottle in his hands. Back and forth he’d moved it, opting to adjust his posturing and lean back against the steps as the bottle moved from hand to hand; as the water within it sloshed quietly and rhythmically. “It still hurts.”
A pause.
“… It’s going to, for a while.” A quiet affirmation, followed by a gentle hand coming to rest on Elliott’s arm. “It’s not easy admitting how different things are.”
A hand abandoning the bottle of water, and opting to reach across and rest upon the other’s. A friendly gesture; an acknowledgment of the homesickness that still shook their cores.
“And that’s what community’s for, yeah?” He smiled, eyes once more bright with motivation.
Tomo mirrored his smile. “Exactly. Now, you want to see if that exhibit’s still running? I’d be amazed if it was, but considering I accidentally triggered it when I’d gone in to retrieve that piece for Three Dog…”
And with that, the duo were on their feet and off again. Off again, with the realization that neither of them were truly lost in the hellish world around them, they both just needed to find someone who’d understood what it was like to live and lose. Someone who, like them, had hope in the future that lay ahead.

happy thursday!
Okay, I didn’t do last week cause I literally slept through mothership, half watched TO and was just too tired to do a “live” post so here’s what I remember/my thoughts.
-having amanda back was awesome and it was really nice to see her in the field again, but like NONE of that should have been allowed (with the exception of when liv said something about “find her paperwork, maybe it didn’t get filed and she’s still a cop after all” which is just LAZY writing’s way of getting around it). Amanda consulting on a case or helping in the squad room? Sure. But not out in the field taking charge, at crime scenes/etc any half competent defence attorney would have that all thrown out entirely.
-absolutely HATED how at the beginning of the ep carisi was all “I can get you a job as an investigator at the da’s office” like… amanda was a detective for over 10 years, she’s got a degree in forensic science, she does NOT need her husband to get her ANOTHER job, she can do that shit herself. I dunno why it irked me so much, but since leaving the show she’s just simplified into “carisi’s wife”/a mom, like, she’s been a mom for years already and was a perfectly competent cop.
-amanda being bored as a professor? Totally fine. Her wanting to go back to being a cop? Completely unbelievable. She LEFT the nypd after being shot because all she could think of was leaving her girls/carisi alone. So you really think she would come back now that she has ANOTHER kid, who is still a baby?? make it make sense. (yes, I would love to have amanda back in some capacity, she needs liv, liv needs her. even if she could just pop up once a month that’d be great) (and yes we need more female characters who are likeable and actually in every episode).
The domestic rollisi scenes were cute AF and I’m so glad to see them. I hope we get more of them. Also it didn’t even cross my mind so I know it wouldn’t have crossed the writers minds, but did we REALLY have to name the baby dominck jr jr and then call him *Nicky* when amanda had a very dramatic situationship with someone named NICK while her now husband was pining over her waiting in the wings?(again, I didn’t even notice this til I saw people complaining on twitter and now it just gives me a it of the ick lol)
Amanda also pushed it WAY too hard when she was UC, again, any attorney could have had that thrown out, ESP with any recordings prosecution would have to hand over. She wasn’t just letting him do what he wanted, she was practically seducing him. Bam. Case thrown out. Like yeah she obvi misses doing that kinda stuff but still… I DO love me some UC amanda, but there were some issues.
Okay I can’t remember what else really happened, so those are my thoughts on last week.
OC was okay.
Well that’s fucking creepy…
Yeah bro… delivery man or not I’m not letting someone use my phone, worst that can happen? Murder. Less worse? He steals my phone. Both are non ideal.
Okay I had to run upstairs and missed the entire second block of the ep minus Nolan saying something about an old case so im v confused now.
Shaw really didn’t need to parkour over that mattress like that… if it was meant to look cool… it did not work, it looked lame.
The physical reaction I had to shaw throwing a chair should not be the immediate reaction a person has… but here we are…
Okay that ep was pretty good
Not watching Toronto. Well…the plan was to not watch it and now it’s kinda on in the background but im not really paying attention.
Okay, here we go svu. Fingers crossed for a good episode (tbh my hopes are not high lol)
I like the actress playing Sykes like she was incredible in the other ep she was in where she played a victim, but this role/characterization is not it. She’s too dry, she’s boring and I do not like her character at all.
Ugh, and of course we’ve got liv pushing this. Like… I *get* it to a point, she wants to watch out for the people around her who may be/are struggling, but like… y’all aren’t friends, and I’m pretty sure liv even said “I’m not really your boss” or something along those lines, and sykes said something about being put on a case (BECAUSE SHE IS A FUCKING FED NOT AN NYPD SVU DETECTIVE) so just fucking let her go. liv needs to deal with her own shit, maybe have another lunch with amanda and help her figure her shit out.
Fin speaking the fucking truth as per usual. Trying to tell liv she’s out of her lane and doing something she shouldn’t be doing.
This entire season has been focused on Liv hyper focusing and getting major obsessive over cases and fucking completely spiraling and looking like she’s insane and I honestly fucking hate that.
AND NOW SHE’S STRAIGHT UP LYING TO HER SQUAD?! BABYGIRL WHAT THE FUCK?
Velasco in purple, hellllooo.
I dunno if im gonna be able to handle Bruno and Velasco continually being partnered up. Imma have to write a threesome fic pretty soon… (wait.. I can do that for bingo!) (that being said, can these boys go back to wearing their badges on their belts, cause there’s something undeniably sexy about the way they have to flash them)
Okay hearing my last name on this show out of liv’s mouth felt REAL fucking weird. I don’t like it.
“not without a oujia board” LOL. Thanks Bruno
Oh good fucking god. Now Velasco and Bruno are teaming up on a perp… pls sirs. Yell at me. JFC. “open up.. say ah…” yeah.. im writing a fucking fic after this…
I understand they’re trying to solve a case/help but like, why can’t they just let these grieving families put the past behind them?? Like you’re dragging up trauma from 10 plus years ago..
Liv just answered the phone “Ed?” and I JOLTED cause my brain went “TUCKER?!!?” and then I remembered he dead.
Velasco is finally at the stage where he’s been around liv long enough that he can start to call her out, he’s witnessed the darker side of her a few weeks ago, he’s someone who normally sits quiet and observes and he can tell she’s fucking losing it. (like, not really, but also she lowkey is and needs to chill and go home and hangout with her son).
“good luck with your open cases. I hope they distract you from your own endless amounts of baggage”
WOW tonight really is all about calling out Liv and I am HERE for it.
Also please for the love of god can we stop name dropping William lewis. We lived through those eps, we don’t need it anymore unless liv is actually going to fully get closure (and PLEASE no visual flashbacks anymore…)
Sonny being in liv’s phone as “ADA Carisi” is wild.
Every single time they bring up genealogy tests on these shows it reminds me yet another reason to never do one lol.
Drink every time a family member/bestie is all “omg he would never, he’s a good man, he even goes to church!” meanwhile they’re guilty af
Oop. And he runnin.
It’d be real nice if we could go to court in an episode sometime soon… like…give carisi something to do that’s his *actual* job. In the old seasons ada’s got SUED for galivanting around the city with the cops meanwhile carisi just gets to go UC and do whatever he wants whenever he wants cause the writers/show runners don’t wanna do court scenes anymore??
You really think an episode centered around the case involving skykes missing sister would have actually been more centered AROUND sykes?? Like, I get that she was all “leave it alone” but it would’ve been a much better episode if they were working a current case/different svu case/cold case/WHATEVER and THEN found a dna link/connection and sykes could’ve been all “wait.. I know this pattern/souvenir/whatever” and slowly put it together that it could be the same person….
Meh episode.
Okay, onto OC, let’s see how this goes.
Ok, I know this is likely going to be important to the plot or whatever but I couldn’t care less about this fucking flash back lol.
Thank god ayanna’s back.
LOOOOLLLL not a single soul believed jet & bobby. That was perfect.
Okay, elliots back, so whenre we gonna find out what’s going on with eli??
How did I know that the people chasing joey were just gonna be Elliott and someone?
Ok, OC has lost me. Im not longer invested or even caring about this storyline lol
See y’all next week! (maybe?)

Ali and Zed are such a funny duo cuz 80% he’s teasing her for her anger and she’s being annoyed with him and then they become besties
I love how zed is so happy for Addison he is now her biggest cheerleader
z2 he was questionable but now? redeemed
Zed’s house is so well decorated btw and Addison’s. All the family photos they took to decorate her room 😂
Exceptional zed is my fave
Zed and Wyatt friendship top tier
All of Seabrook cheering zed on be z1 when everyone was rooting against him
Signature early 2000s final chorus key change slaps in exceptional zed
Exceptional zed reprise is so good
Not Eliza going searching for Wyatt’s mind probe
Willa looks so annoyed that she’s working with Bucky I love it
When zed gets into college 🥺 the exceptional zed music playing under 🥺
I’m finally me is giving early 2000s dcom vibes
Like in theory addison could take them to their new planet and they could just bring her back after right…?
As much as I love zed’s half sacrifice (half cuz he didn’t die but he did put his life on the line) it would’ve been a bit more impactful if Willa joined. All of Seabrook united as one!
We all agree that Bucky wears the hat to help hide his alien self. I mean he’s flying on the space ship so clearly he has the stardust spark!

Self-interview (but not really)
When I heard about @sherlollyappreciationweek hosting a self-interview event, I thought it would be fun to participate, so people could get to know me better as an author. But, instead of doing a self-interview, I approached some of my readers and asked them to pose questions for me to answer.
I’m not aiming at making this about me personally. It’s all about me as an author. If you want to know about who I really am outside of my writing, feel free to chat with me privately.
The name of the person asking the questions will precede each section. As this interview is rather long, I will do it in two parts.

Q: What personal experiences or skills (in broad strokes), besides your faith, have influenced what you write about for your characters?
A: I know I see Molly differently than most people, in a more wholesome way. When I look at her character on the show, she doesn't seem the type to have a long sexual history, but instead, seems to be someone who has devoted her life to becoming the best pathologist she can be. I adore her character, and to be honest, I put a lot of my own traits into her - including her love of singing and faith. My post TFP Sherlock has had his true nature restored by the events of Sherrinford. Thus, he is emotionally stable and able to love Molly deeply. I can write him that way because I happen to have a romantic, loving husband (lucky me!). A lot of times in my married stories, I draw on experiences I've had that I have fictionalized for the characters. I usually refer to these in author’s notes. I also love writing about their children, and put a lot of thought and personal experience into writing for them from watching my own daughters grow.
As for the other characters, I just write them the way I feel reflects their personalities best from what I’ve observed in the show, working on fleshing out their characters more as I’ve continued 3 years worth of storyline beyond TFP. For example, my version of Mycroft has mellowed a lot and married Lady Smallwodd, and John has also become a Christian and is remarried with a son.
Q: What kinds of characters do you find most challenging to write, and what strategies do you use to write them?
A: I don’t think I necessarily have a lot of issues in writing the canon characters because I have watched the show so many times I feel I know them personally. Probably the most challenging thing is writing for OC’s or peripheral characters I may have brought into a story that we haven't seen a lot of (like Billy Wiggins or Philip Anderson). I must admit, I have written very little about Moriarty, because most of my stories take place after his death.
dmollyc
Q: What character is hardest to write?
A: I kind of addressed this one in the above answer, but I do think I'd find it difficult to write for Moriarty because I'm not sure how well I could get into the psyche of a deranged madman!
Q: Do you get any nasty reviews?
A: Thankfully, not many. Most of the negative ones are people reacting to a story out of context. They will read a story in the middle of my chronological timeline and then complain that the characters are OOC. When I write my continuing stories, I assume that people are familiar with the characters as I’ve written them already, so this can cause confusion.
Because of the Christian themes, I have lost readers who object to the theology I present through my characters. Obviously, I will not please everybody.
But generally speaking, people are very kind about my work when they review it, and I especially love the reviewers who immerse themselves into my world of Sherlock and Molly and embrace my post-TFP version of them.
Q: What do you like best about your stories?
A: Probably what I like best is that I've found a unique niche in the fandom in creating a whole Christian theme, and writing a lot of different stories with the same theme. I've not seen anyone else doing that (although I'd love to see it done by others).
I enjoy writing my own continuing post-TFP happy ending for Sherlock and Molly, expanding their universe and that of the other characters from Sherlock as well.
Also, I enjoy showing Molly as someone with a belief in saving herself for marriage. It's not going to be a popular idea for the general population, but I know many Christians can relate to that desire to keep sex for that special someone rather than experimenting with every boyfriend they date.
I also think I do a pretty good job in writing love scenes that are steamy, but still clean, although I’m aware that some readers are more sensitive who find them too steamy. I write using my own inner guide for how far to take things in the bedroom. Some stories are definitely steamier than others, but there are certain graphic terms I will never use in my writing because I feel they cross the line of my own comfort zone.

Q: How have you overcome the challenges of your vision impairment?
A: This is definitely an ongoing process for me. When I began writing, my proofreading would just consist of looking over the chapter a couple times to try to errors. I have issues when typing on my iPad because of the flat keyboard surface. That means I often type a word incorrectly. To help compensate for that, I have hundreds of words in my “text replacement” section, so that certain words I often mis-type automatically correct to the right word. I have a bad tendency to hit the M instead of N or vice versa, for example. A few months after I began publishing, someone suggested I use a text-to-speech app to help me identify incorrectly spelled words. That did help. I copy a chapter into the text-to-speech app and watch my chapter in a split screen as I listen to the words. That has been a big help. Then, this year, I discovered a free website called prowritingaid, which I now use as another editing tool, and it identifies even more spelling and grammar errors. So now I find myself writing, proofreading as I go along several times as I write. When the chapter is finished and I am ready to publish, I do another visual read. Then I use the prowritingaid site as another editing step. After that, I use the text-to-speech app and listen as I read. Finally, I copy the whole thing into Google Docs, add italics and bold type and glance through the chapter again to see if Google Docs has discovered any more errors. It's a very long process, believe me, and it takes so much longer to do the editing and proofreading than to write! For me, the writing part is easy!
Q: Does it (visual impairment) affect the way you write?
A: Physically, yes. I cannot use a computer, because I need to be inches away from the screen to see what I am doing. Sometimes I will sit at a table and write, but usually, I put three cushions on my lap and sit my iPad on top. Over time, that method has caused me to have pretty severe tendonitis, but I have no other way to write, and it's worth the pain to keep writing! Currently, I am also dealing with frozen shoulder as part of the physical issues.
Also, I have to enlarge my text to write. I use the Colored Note app for my chapters, set to the maximum size of 36, and when I go into Google Docs, I set the size to 25 so I can read it.
Q: What part about writing do you find the most challenging? What’s the easiest?
A: As I mentioned above, the most difficult part is definitely the editing/proofreading process because I have to work so much harder than a normally sighted person, and it takes up a huge chunk of time.
Also, I am very particular in trying to write realistic fiction whenever possible. That means a ton of research. For example, in my story where Molly was shot, Confronting Evil and the Truth, I researched a lot about gunshot wounds and how to care for them. In A Honeymoon Journey, my characters went to Stratford-upon-Avon, and I researched that location thoroughly for many of the chapters. In my latest COVID-19 series, I have followed the pandemic closely in the UK and have added many real situations that have happened there. Research, research, research!
The easiest part is definitely writing the story itself, especially dialogue. I can hear the characters in my head telling me what to write. I rarely suffer from writer’s block, unless I am trying to think about how to write a mystery or crime and how to resolve it.
Aslan's Princess
Q: Where do you find inspiration? Is it something specific? Or multiple things?
A: I find inspiration mainly in two areas. First, from watching episodes over and over and analyzing them. Second, I also find inspiration in my own life, in bringing in real experiences I am familiar with (such as pregnancy and childbirth). Occasionally I will read a story or a review where someone tells me something that sparks my imagination. My current WIP, The Good Book, was actually inspired by a gif-set one of my readers, Penelope Chestnut showed me. It got me wondering what would happen if Sherlock suddenly discovered the Bible (shown in TBB) in his bookcase and decided he wanted some answers about the meaning of life.
Justwritebritt
Q: What drives you to keep writing?
A: Certainly, one of the most motivating factors is hearing from readers who enjoy my work. Readers generally have no clue what kind of power they possess when it comes to encouraging a writer to keep going. A pat on the back is always a good thing. I wish more people could understand that.
Aside from that, though, I feel a calling from God to keep writing. I like sharing my faith through Molly (and Sherlock). My hope is that people will find my stories inspiring and encouraging.
Q: What/Who can you absolutely not write without?
A: I cannot write without my iPad. I use it not only to write, but to research and to watch Sherlock on Netflix. it's my all-in-one resource!
Q: What is your favorite story you've published so far?
A: I will always love A Journey to Love, Faith and Marriage, because it is the “mothership” from which all my other stories spring, but my writing technique was not great at the beginning; there’s an obvious improvement in later chapters. But, I am also very fond of Sherlock’s Dream of What Might Have Been. That one tells a story of Sherlock and Molly meeting in uni, and then jumps to the canon, inserting a secret relationship (and child) throughout the series canon. I put a lot of thought into filling in Season 4 backstory as well.
Q: What (in vague terms) story are you looking forward to telling next?
A: I have a few stories in the pipeline that I am looking forward to sharing. One that steps away from the overt Christian themes is a Pretty Woman AU. I haven't seen anyone attempt an AU for that movie, and I look forward to sharing it. Perhaps it will spark interest with a few more readers because it isn't heavily weighted on the Christian theme scale, but is merely one of my more whimsical, creative story ideas. It is the first story I have written that combines elements from both a movie and the Sherlock narrative.
I also have a couple of one-shots that I will publish in the timeline of my WIP Journey to a New Home, one, that deals with the topic of divorce using a Biblical perspective, plus one that sheds light on the subject of depression.

Lance Henriksen on His Career: ‘Every Job I’ve Ever Gotten Was a Gift’
https://ift.tt/39QbXna
Lance Henriksen has been one of the screen’s most distinctive character actors and overall badasses for going on 50 years. A genuine working actor who always seems to be showing up in a film or TV show, the New York-born Henriksen’s early film career featured small roles in some of the most iconic films of the 1970s, including Dog Day Afternoon, Network and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Even though his long and varied run on the big and small screen was just getting underway, he managed to work with directors like Sidney Lumet and Steven Spielberg.
He also didn’t have a clue at the time that those films would endure decades later as classics of their era.
“I had no idea,” he says while speaking to us on the phone about his latest film, Falling. “I was just grateful to have a job and do my best and try. It was a gift. Every job I’ve ever gotten, I feel it was a gift. I don’t make any bones about that. It’s just a lot of luck.”
Now at the age of 80, Henriksen is a statesman of cinema in Falling, Viggo Mortensen’s directorial debut. However, the older actor wasn’t always sure luck was going to come his come his way. His father was a merchant sailor who was away at sea most of the time. His mother, who worked as a dance instructor, a model, and a waitress, divorced Henriksen’s father when her son was just two and struggled to raise both Lance and his brother on her own. Stints in foster care and abuse at the hands of other family members followed, with Henriksen out of school after first grade and out of his home for good at 12. He didn’t learn to read until he was nearly 30 years old.
It was around that time that he began working in theater, first in set design and then eventually on the sets themselves as an actor. His first film appearance came in 1972, in the long-forgotten It Ain’t Easy for director (and future Star Trek: The Next Generation producer/writer) Maurice Hurley. Three years later, he was an FBI agent in Lumet’s Dog Day Afternoon, which got him a call from Spielberg, the red-hot young director of Jaws who was then prepping his alien contact epic, Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
In that film, Henriksen played one of the many scientists and technicians on hand for the arrival of the alien mothership and its crew.
“[Spielberg] was getting ready to shoot the mothership leaving, with all the little creatures and all the astronauts going up onto the machine,” the actor recalls now. “And I ran over and said, ‘Hey, listen, Steven, I’ve got an idea. What if I take my coat, throw it over one of these little creatures, and run into the Porta-Potties with it, so we’ve got proof, because this thing’s going to take off and disappear.’ And he looked at me and goes, ‘Lance, listen to me, that’s a different movie.’”
Following that mid-1970s run, which also included the 1978 horror sequel, Damien: Omen II, and the truly bonkers sci-fi cult film The Visitor, with John Huston and Glenn Ford, Henriksen wouldn’t see his next big break until 1982. That’s when a first-time director named James Cameron cast him in Piranha 2: The Spawning, which Cameron was shooting for exploitation producer Ovidio G. Assonitis.
“I like Jim,” says Henriksen of the man who would later go on to make game-changing, record-breaking blockbusters like Titanic and Avatar. “I met him on Piranha 2. Neither one of us liked that movie, but we did it. We had to do that movie. We weren’t supported very much by the producers…And then when the movie was done, we all went home and I remember they fired Jim the last day of shooting so that they could edit and control the movie.”
According to Henriksen, the producers of Piranha 2 took the film out of Cameron’s hands and presented their own edit to distributor Columbia Pictures, which rejected it.
Says Henriksen, “Jim took the same footage that they showed Columbia. He re-edited it and brought it back to [the studio]. And that’s the cut that released. It’s a great story. I hope it’s true.”
Cameron cast Henriksen in his next two movies, both of which turned into sci-fi/action classics: 1984’s The Terminator and 1986’s Aliens. It was in the latter film that Henriksen created the first of several iconic performances by playing the enigmatic and ultimately heroic android Bishop. Other 1980s standouts for Henriksen included Prince of the City, The Right Stuff, and Jagged Edge, while the latter half of that decade yielded lead roles in two horror cult classics, Pumpkinhead and Near Dark.

Although Henriksen continued to work steadily in movies throughout the 1990s, 2000s and 2010s, it was a TV show that yielded perhaps his most famous character after Bishop: ex-FBI profiler and serial killer hunter Frank Black in creator Chris Carter’s nightmarish thriller series Millennium. The series was Carter’s follow-up to The X-Files and it ran for three seasons and 67 episodes on Fox from 1996 to 1999.
“I think the thing that I admired the most was when I was offered the role, I didn’t right away know it was television,” says Henriksen, who also admits that the show’s oppressive nature and the tormented psyche of his character wore on him during its three-year run. “I got to a restaurant with Chris Carter and the director. I said, ‘Let me ask you something. This is so dark. A lot of serial killers. A lot of bad people. Where’s the light going to come from?’ And all Chris Carter said to me was, ‘The yellow house.’ And then I got it right away. It was about [Black’s] family and I agreed to do it.”
Henriksen adds, “Occasionally it sucked me in,” referring to Millennium’s relentlessly grim atmosphere. “But it was a tough show. It wasn’t an easy one. It was also kind of a groundbreaker at the time, I think.” Henriksen has been quoted as saying that it took him “a year” to get out of the head of Frank Black after the show was cancelled, and has often noted that he finds it difficult to detach himself from a character after the project has finished shooting.
When it came to Falling, Henriksen says he was actually leery at first of playing Willis Peterson, the conservative and homophobic father of a middle-aged gay man named John (Mortensen, who also wrote and scored the movie). Nearing the end of his life, perpetually angry and having pushed two wives and his children away from him, Willis is perhaps the most complex role of Henriksen’s career but one which he says was exhausting to play.
“I have to tell you the minute we were wrapped and we finished the movie, I said, ‘Viggo, I’m going to disappear for a while. I got to get myself back,’” Henriksen explains. “I was a little afraid to do it. I got so deep into some of it that I got a little afraid that I’m going to get a form of Alzheimer’s of some kind–I won’t be able to shake it. But I was able to shake it. But anyway, it was intense. It really was, the stakes were very high. And we had a short time to do it. We shot it in five weeks.”
Henriksen’s relationship with Mortensen–best known to genre fans as Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings–stretches back to the 2008 Western Appaloosa, in which both men starred alongside Ed Harris. “We both love Westerns and we all enjoyed it,” says Henriksen of his first collaboration with Mortensen. “All three of us: Ed loves Westerns. He knows how to ride, he knows how to do it. It was nice to meet Viggo. He’s as good a guy as I’ve ever met. I liked him right away, really good guy.”
Nevertheless, Henriksen–a graduate of the Actors Studio and a practitioner of method acting–still wasn’t sure he wanted to play Willis when Mortensen sent him the Falling script. “It scared me,” he admits. “He said, ‘Would you do it?’ I said, ‘Sure, I’m scared, but I’ll do it.’ And then we lost the original backing and it took two years to finally get new backing, and he said, ‘You still want to do it?’ And I went, ‘Yeah.’ And he goes, ‘That didn’t sound very enthusiastic, Lance.’ I said to him, ‘The truth is, I’m going to have to visit some real dark places from my youth, my childhood, all of that, and I’m nervous.’”
In Falling, John brings Willis home to Los Angeles with him to stay with his family, including husband Eric (Terry Chen) and their adopted daughter Monica (Gabby Velis) while they look for a new home for Willis closer to John and his sister Sarah (Laura Linney). But Willis is resolutely against leaving his rural farm in heartland America, determined to stick to his sheltered lifestyle even as the onset of dementia begins to blur the past and the present in his mind.
Despite his anxiety about delving into Willis’ tortured, embittered psyche, Henriksen now imparts that participating in the film became an instant highlight of his career. “It was the best experience I’ve ever had as an actor,” he says. “The support to do it and [Mortensen’s] appreciation level and all of those things were everything that I hoped for… I have nothing but gratitude. This is maybe the best role I’ve gotten in my lifetime. I really think that.”
Those are strong words coming from an actor who has appeared in many of the definitive films of the last five decades, but Falling may well feature some of the most emotionally raw work he’s done during his lifetime in the business. “I’m grateful to be an actor,” Lance Henriksen says with sincerity. “I’m an apprentice to every new subject. It’s been my education. I’m a lucky guy, I really am.”
Falling is out in theaters, on digital, and on demand now.

As someone who's followed your blog for a while and noticed you are a Timeless fan, I'm curious: What are your thoughts on the finale? (the real finale, not the abomination that never happened)
Ooh, I’m very glad you asked! I loved it! (Well, most of it.)
Seriously. It was a wholesome, happy ending for the Time Team - and that was really all I wanted. Structurally, I think it’s fantastic that the first half was the climax of the series, and the second half was the falling action. Part 1 was all action, part 2 was a character piece for all the leads. “Amadeus” was a history piece, and “Homecoming” had the team literally in limbo. It combined science fiction, a historical story, and the amazing cast. It did what “Timeless” does best. Most of the gripes I had weren’t really the fault of the finale, since they came from things established in earlier episodes. (Mainly bringing back Emma.) But almost every scene had me absolutely immersed. I’ll admit, they basically gave up on having the time travel rules be consistent or make sense, but it’s not like the show was ever that iron-cast about the rules, even in the early seasons. It made the story better, so bring it on.
Some disconnected thoughts and notes.
I had almost forgotten about the phone call from S4E1, and I was really worried even when I first read it that it would never be explained, especially as the Amy mystery fell by the wayside more and more. But this was like...a perfect conclusion to that phone call? An amazing bookend? They not only remembered it, but they actually gave it an explanation that makes sense, and I really liked it - how did they manage that?
I kinda love that Rufus was the one to activate the Recursion? That at the end of it all, he was the one to basically blow up the universe. No idea why he did it but somehow, Malcom Barrett’s performance made it compelling anyway. And he wasn’t even giving a performance. Just, the one he gave in my head made it work. I dunno. I suppose he was spiraling after he thought Jiya died? I could follow it. Speaking of...
Okay, the destruction of the Lifeboat was the stupidest moment, period. Sorry, but it spontaneously combusts because it carried an extra passenger? I don’t remember it doing that at the end of Season 1? It was just a way to get rid of the lifeboat. Which wasn’t necessary, when all is said and done. Rufus would have just destroyed it later anyway. Loved seeing him blow up the Mothership, by the way.
Wyatt. And Jessica. Having a conversation. This is all I have wanted for two seasons and it’s wonderful. The point they’re at with each other is so wistful and sad, but there’s a kind of realism to it. I’m not the biggest fan of what this continuation has done with Wyatt, but I’m so glad he got to have this closure. And I’ll admit, “You always loved me more when I was gone.” was some cold, hard truth. I’m just glad Wyatt got reunited with Sarah. But um...what happened to Jessica?
Rufus and Connor’s reunion actually made me cry. Don’t even get me started. With Rufus trying to bring him back, I just can’t even. Also, you made it the entire season without a Harry Potter reference...and you just had to bring them back now, huh? For old time’s sake? Ah well, they bash Harry’s naming skills, so I’ll let it slide.
Flynn and Lorena’s break up. Amicable and mature and beautiful, and at this point I’m just going to break down because why couldn’t Lorena come back? It wouldn’t have disrupted Garcy, and Iris deserves to get her mother back after everything she’s been through. Iris has lost both of her mother figures. I guess Jessica made the choice not to turn back her clock, and that’s why she’s not here? Who knows. Maybe Lorena returning would have been too happy.
Emma’s chapter of the Recursion actually broke my heart for her. It was perfect how she was the only one who refused to engage with the other people who were present, insisted they weren’t real - but we know from the other visions that they were. Her setting her house on fire was fitting, and I actually expected her to turn up dead in the real world. Not gonna lie, really didn’t like how she ended up trapped in the Recursion and how cavalier Rufus was about it. Dude, this season brought her back from the dead just to trap her in a permanent hell? I know she’s evil, but why was that necessary?
I’m so happy we got to meet Jiya’s dad, after learning about him in Season 2. That and Denise’s father accepting her just made me very happy. I live for the wholesome moments like that. But so long as everyone’s parents are here, and even Connor is here...I have to ask: Where the hell is Carol? Seriously, that’s a reunion that could have been interesting, and with everyone else’s parents returning, Carol’s absence is very noticeable. Sure, she was awful, but maybe she could have undergone post-death character development? I mean, Emma is awful too, and she came back.
Iris and Sarah are just. So amazing as a duo. Any time we get to see their friendship, I just get smiley. Iris is just wonderful as a character in general if I’m being honest. Her being so ready to sacrifice her own life to kill Emma. Her awkwardly wondering if she’s welcome and Rufus and Jiya’s wedding (Thank you for showing it, and thank you for having Wyatt as Best Man. I would have thrown many hands if he wasn’t.)
Amy is such a wildcard and I’m not sure what to make of her. She apparently “let go” of Valkyrie which allowed her to return to being young. But I guess Jessica didn’t want to let go? So is she just dead? Again? I like Amy though. I much prefer her and Flynn living happily ever after with Lucy to some stupid babies ever after ending where she goes full Harry Potter and names her children after them.
In the end, I have a lot more to say about Homecoming than Amadeus, but don’t misunderstand - I definitely loved both episodes. Unsinkable is still the best episode of the season, however.

The Possibility of Love
When it’s Day 15 of #RenewTimeless watch and the Timeless Writers are kind enough to shower the fandom with deleted scenes, new fics happen. That’s just the way life is.
Here’s my take on episodes 2x01 and 2x02 (including the deleted scene) from Wyatt’s perspective. This was also partially inspired by the Lyatt Meta that I posted yesterday. (See shameless plug link here.) Enjoy!

“You’re in love with Lucy. Just admit it.”
Wyatt hears Rufus say the words, but his mind immediately rejects the suggestion. This mission wasn’t about saving a woman he loved, it was about saving their teammate. So, sure, saving the world sucks sometimes, but that’s the job. And to do that job, they need their historian. Still, his friend didn’t voluntary enlist for this life like he did, and he is genuinely sympathetic to Rufus’ situation.
“I’ll admit the road sucks,” he offers not wanting Rufus to dwell any longer on everything that was going wrong back in the present. The mission isn’t over, yet, my friend. We need to stay focused.
Hours later when they finally locate the Mothership, they stop in their tracks when they realize that Lucy, Emma and her mother are already there. They quickly find cover behind some bushes and watch the three women heading toward the ship with a man on a gurney.
“Damn it,” Wyatt curses under his breath. “There goes the plan of blowing it up.” He studies the area between their hiding spot and the ship, calculating the best tactical options to spring his attack. He suspects that only Emma is armed, but without knowing how much of a Rittenhouse true believer Lucy’s mother is, he doesn’t want to take any chances.
“Wyatt, look!” Rufus whispers nudging Wyatt hard.
Suddenly alert, Wyatt looks up. His heart skips a beat when he sees Lucy standing between the muzzle of Emma’s gun and two nurses behind her. What the hell is she doing? he asks himself immediately rushing from his hiding spot toward the scene.
Out of fear that taking a shot at Emma would result in Lucy or the nurses getting hit in the cross fire, Wyatt fights his soldier instincts and instead goes for the hostage option. Aiming his gun at the injured soldier’s head, he calls out to Emma, “I can.”
It takes everything in Wyatt’s body to keep calm when Emma grabs Lucy and points the gun at her head. Please be a good mother and tell Emma to let her go, he silently begs Carol as he doubles down on his gamble that this zombie on the gurney is more important to them than Lucy.
Wyatt finally exhales when Emma pushes Lucy toward them. Mission accomplished. He’s ready to tell the team to start backing away when Lucy begins pleading with her mother. His heart breaks for her when Carol rejects Lucy’s entreaty to go with them, but he remains focused on getting them out of harm’s way, especially when Emma taunts her about Amy.
Wyatt follows Lucy and Rufus into the darkness regretting not going against his word and killing Emma then and there. He only realizes later that he was afraid to, because then the secrets of what Emma meant about forever preventing Amy’s existence would die with her, and he couldn’t do that to Lucy.
*******
Upon their return to the present, Wyatt hangs back near Lifeboat while Jiya and Agent Christopher help Lucy get settled in her and Jiya’s room. He happily lets her shower first while he makes her a sandwich and cup of tea. She didn’t say much on the walk back to the Lifeboat, but he could tell that she was thinner like she hadn’t eaten in weeks. He could relate given that he himself had barely eaten or slept in the past six weeks. But that was over now. The team was back, and they would need their strength. He can’t help but smile as he takes a bite of his own sandwich en route to his room to get ready for his shower.
He passes Lucy walking out of the bathroom. She’s wearing sweats that are much too big for her which only further emphasizes her smaller frame. Her damp hair leaves wet spots on her shoulders, but the hollow look on her face shows that she doesn’t care. Wyatt immediately recognizes the numbness with which she moves. He’s seen it a million times as his fellow soldiers return from battle. Confident that he’ll be able to get her over the hump once again, he tells her that he made her something to eat, and that it’s waiting for her in the kitchen along with a cup of hot tea. She gives him a weak smile and appreciative nod, but she continues walking silently toward her room.
After his own shower, Wyatt dresses quickly to check on Lucy. He heads straight to the kitchen and finds the food he left for her untouched and the tea cold. Sighing, he picks up the mug of tea and walks to the sink to dump it out. Rufus walks by on his way to join the others near the computer console. Not wanting the food to go to waste, he offers it to Rufus, who immediately accepts it with a muffled “thanks” after taking a huge bite of the sandwich.
Wyatt nods back at him and walks in the other direction in search of Lucy. He finds her standing in her room looking completely lost in her surroundings.
“It’s not exactly what you were expecting to come home to, huh?” he says from the doorway.
When she tells him that she wasn’t expecting to come home at all, he immediately becomes concerned. That’s not the reaction he expected. Most soldiers, including prisoners of war, are relieved that their hopes of coming home have come true, and rarely do they admit that they had ever given up hope.
He takes a seat across from her and listens to her confession to killing an innocent man that day. He assures her, as he would a fellow soldier-in-arms that survival means making difficult choices. She laments how she lost hope thinking that he and Rufus were dead. In a lapse of better judgment, he asks Lucy if she’s sure that her mother wouldn’t have let Emma kill her, and through her reaction he is once again reminded that in this team he is the only true soldier. Not only was he trained to be physically tough, but emotionally, too, and he regrets forgetting that as he watches Lucy break down before him.
Wyatt rushes to her side to comfort his teammate and friend. Remembering how he never gave up hope that she was alive, he offers a promise that fueled him for the past six weeks.
“You haven’t lost me.”
He holds her tighter as her body shakes and heaves and tears threaten to fall down her face. He’s willing to stay by her side all night until the tears stop and all memory of her willingness to die for their mission fades. He is surprised to feel her hand on his neck and cheek. The sensation makes him suddenly conscious of the feel of her forehead and hair against the other side of his face. He hadn’t realized their faces were so close to each other. He feels her pull head away slightly, and he looks down to try and get a glimpse of her eyes to see what she’s thinking.
In the time that they’ve known each other, they have developed a level of understanding. They can communicate through their eyes and how they say each other’s names when they call out to each other in panicked moments or otherwise. But they have not yet learned to communicate through touch, so the sensation is confusing to him.
He looks down, but he can’t see into her eyes, because they are looking at his mouth. He takes a breath and finds himself looking at her mouth as well. Her hand continues to rub his neck pulling him incrementally closer to her now parted lips. Unsure that she herself is aware of what is happening, he looks up once again searching for her eyes, but they are now closed. In the nanoseconds that follow, Wyatt questions if this is what she really wants. He knows he wants it, but he doesn’t want to take advantage of her compromised emotional state.
Before he can give in though, the decision is made for them when Jiya appears in the doorway. He and Lucy immediately pull apart, but he keeps his arms around her, rubbing her bicep reminding her that he won’t leave her. They look at each other briefly before standing up to follow Jiya to rejoin the others.
A few hours later after the team finishes speculating further on Rittenhouse’s plans and just how many sleeper agents they have left scattered in history, Agent Christopher leaves for home and, Connor retreats to his room in the supply closet with a bottle that he thinks no one sees.
Jiya and Rufus suggest watching a movie to help get their minds off of the doom and gloom talk of Rittenhouse sleeper agents changing the course of history without their knowledge. Lucy understandably declines and retreats to her room for some rest. Wyatt resists the urge to follow her and offers to make the popcorn while Rufus and Jiya argue over which movie to select.
Halfway through the film Wyatt begins to feel like a fifth wheel as the movie’s main characters share a passionate kiss and the two lovebirds on the loveseat beside him snuggle closer. Wyatt stands up with an exaggerated stretch and tells the others he’s going to turn in for the night.
As he walks down the hallway toward his room, Wyatt thinks of Lucy, who hasn’t left his mind since their almost kiss. He feels his heart warm as he remembers the feel of her breath on his mouth and the anticipation of what was meant to come next.
But was it really meant to happen? He asks himself. He can’t deny that his feelings for Lucy are growing, but he refuses to let his mind even consider the possibility that it’s mutual. He’s a broken human being, she’s not, or at least, she wasn’t. His heart aches remembering how desperate Lucy became while she was held prisoner. She was practically suicidal, and he will never forgive Carol Preston for bringing her daughter to that point.
In that moment he swears to himself that now that his mission to save Lucy was successful, his next will be to save her from following the same dark path he has gone down. He shudders at the thought of her becoming as reckless and closed off as he is. She’s better than that. She deserves more than that.
He stops walking and finds himself a few feet from the doorway to Lucy’s room having walked past Rufus’ and his own while deep in thought. He’s about to make a U-turn when he notices under her closed door that her light is still on. Just looking in the direction of her room reminds him of what transpired earlier that day. He lifts his hand to the left side of his neck recalling the feel of her soft skin and the smell of her hair. He wonders if he imagined the urgency with which she pulled his face toward hers.
There’s one way to find out, he tells himself as he walks swiftly to the door and knocks softly before opening the door louder than he intended. He stops himself from calling out her name as soon as he sees her sleeping form lying on her cot. He exhales a deep sigh, grateful that she’s getting some sleep which she needs as desperately as she needs food.
He can see in the dim light that she has kicked off her covers or was perhaps too tired to pull them up over herself. Feeling a draft in the room, he walks up to her bedside to pull her bedsheet over her body. Seeing her sleeping peacefully fills him with calm and hope that she will soon be back to her old self. He bends down to take a closer look at the face that he’s missed for six weeks. He gently brushes a stray hair from her forehead and leans down to press his lips to her brow.
This small act confirms for him that she is in fact here within his reach. He hopes that knowing she’s just down the hallway will help him to finally get a full night’s rest himself. But he knows that the thoughts that threaten to keep him up tonight will be visions of what would have happened between them had Jiya not walked into the room.
Deep down he hopes he didn’t imagine the want he interpreted in her movements, but he worries what it could mean if there’s even a chance that she wants the same thing that he does.
Rising to exit the room he remembers what Flynn read to him from Lucy’s journal back in that dusty hotel room in 1972:
“Wyatt’s obsessed with his wife’s death. He needs to let go, move on.”
After failing to save Jessica last year, Wyatt began to come to terms once again with the fact that there was nothing he could do to erase the guilt he carried for causing his wife’s death. He cursed himself for giving into false hope that having a time machine at his disposal could change that. It took over half a decade, but he has finally reached the final stage of grief and accepts her death. He would even go so far as to say that he’s no longer “obsessed” with it either. Yet knowing how he failed to love and protect her the way she deserved will forever haunt him.
But he knows he can protect Lucy – and Rufus, and for now, that’s enough. Any possibilities of love in his future will take a backseat to making sure that Lucy is okay and able to recover from whatever hell her mother and Rittenhouse put her through.
*******
A few days later Wyatt sees Lucy lying on the uncomfortable sofa in the common area reading pages from the Rittenhouse manifesto they found in 1919. With Rufus and Jiya in the hangar busily working on the Lifeboat and Agent Christopher and Connor sitting near the computer console, he decides to take a chance at getting Lucy to talk to help her get over this particular hump.
Wyatt had asked Jiya during breakfast how well Lucy seemed to be adjusting to being back and these rather unique living quarters. She told him in confidence that she could tell that Lucy wasn’t sleeping even though she was trying hard to hide it. Jiya explained that she is naturally a light sleeper, and every time she turned to her side, she could see her roommate lying on her back with her hands folded across her abdomen and staring at the ceiling.
Feeling only slightly guilty for breaking this confidence, Wyatt uses the information to try to coax Lucy to tell him what happened to her while she was held prisoner. He is hesitant to hear the full story, because he knows it will only cause the anger to rise in him, but he had made the promise to himself to help in Lucy’s recovery.
He attempts the same counseling techniques used by all of the shrinks that talked to him upon his return from the Middle East. He validates the concern with facts. He reminds her that it’s the team’s worry and concern that is driving the question. She, however, is not on board with this plan, and she reacts the same way that he did once upon a time. She dismisses the subject, stands up and walks away.
That’s our stubborn professor, he remarks to himself, but before he can follow her, the Mothership alarm blares throughout the bunker.
A few minutes later when she suggests going to Flynn for help with finding out what Rittenhouse is doing in 1955 South Carolina, Wyatt becomes convinced that she is still courting danger. Eventually everyone accepts the fact that she’s right, because she is. There are no better ideas available to them, and Wyatt can’t help but to admire her resolve in convincing them. And there’s our bossy know-it-all, he thinks feeling slightly relieved to see some signs of the Lucy he thought they lost.
*******
When they arrive at the race track in Darlington, Wyatt can’t contain his excitement. He knows his fanboying is distracting them from the mission, but he honestly can’t help himself. He also doesn’t’ miss the humorous reaction in Lucy’s face while she watches him gush and fawn over the cars. If this temporary break from being the mission-focused soldier brings that smile he misses back to her face, it’s completely worth it.
This is by far Wyatt’s favorite mission. Finally, they have travelled to a time and place where he gets a chance to meet his childhood heroes not to mention walk among a sea of genuine stock cars. He even gets to impress Rufus and Lucy for once with his history knowledge. So, this is what it feels like to be the brains on a mission, he chuckles to himself. But it’s not just NASCAR history that he shares with the team, but inadvertently his own personal history. First about his misspent youth as a teenage bootlegger and then the story of his tumultuous past with his father.
With the exception of the time he told Lucy about his Grandpa Sherwin, Wyatt never voluntarily talks about his past. It’s not that he’s trying to keep secrets from anyone, it’s more that he believes personal stories like those have a time and a place. He knows why he opened up to Lucy about his grandfather, but he’s not exactly sure why he felt compelled to tell Wendell about his past. Perhaps it was a tactical move to build a rapport with their new ally, but he’s sure it was more than that. After years of trying and failing to prove to his father that he was worthy of his love, Wyatt had begun to look back on those years learning how to fix cars as a waste of time and effort. To finally have someone appreciate and admire his skills was like finally hearing his old man say the “Good job, son” that he longed to hear as a kid.
Hiding in the cramped trunk of a bootlegger’s car, however, wasn’t exactly what he had in mind as his reward for fixing Old Rusty. But at least they were heading in the right direction to finish their mission.
Wyatt’s protective instincts piqued again when he noticed Lucy’s uneven breathing, but that didn’t stop him from teasing her a bit to try to get her to relax and loosen up. Recalling how his embrace seemed to comfort her before, Wyatt offers to let her hold on to him again. There is no hidden agenda in his offer, but as he breathes in the smell of her shampoo once again and feels her warm skin on his neck, it takes effort on his part to keep his own breathing even.
“Is all that stuff you said about your dad true?” she asks.
Wyatt tries to beg off the question with a silent exhalation. As Lucy continues talking, he quickly realizes she’s not asking him for more details, but rather seeking advice for how to deal with her own parental issues. Knowing how his relationship with his dad affected nearly every decision he made for years, he feels compelled to be open and honest with Lucy in hopes to spare her the pain that he endured alone.
He tells her that pretending that he didn’t love and admire him was futile, because it wasn’t true. A child will always love their parent even if the parent doesn’t love them in return or does something unforgiving like hit them or kidnap them. He tells her that it’s natural to blame yourself for the lack of love you receive in return. But the most important thing he tells her is that once you know for sure that you’re not to blame, it’s okay to move on. “Nothing ahead but the open road.”
They feel the car slow to a stop signaling that they have arrived back at the track, and it’s critical that they remain quiet and still. As they lay there still holding each other even though there are no more potholes and bumps in the road, Wyatt focuses on the conversation happening on the other side of the metal chassis. His mind wanders slightly as he admires Lucy’s strength and resilience in the aftermath of being kidnapped by her mother. It took him decades to get over his father, and here less than two months later, Lucy is showing signs that she is able to begin to move forward and leave her past in the past.
I could learn something from her, he tells himself as his words about the “open road” echo inside his mind. Maybe there’s an open road ahead of me, too. Ahead of us even.
He is literally shaken from this thought as Old Rusty lurches forward, and he rolls atop of Lucy. With the tension of being discovered gone, they both laugh heartily. As their bodies still, he feels a familiar pull on his neck. It’s not as firm as the last time, but rather a gentle, coaxing pull as if offering him the option to resist without hurting her feelings. The thought of pulling back never crosses as his mind as he instead turns toward her so that he can look into her eyes. This time he wants to be sure that this is what she wants, he needs to be sure, because if he wasn’t expecting the car to lurch just seconds ago, he definitely wasn’t expecting this.
Lucy moves her hand to gently caress his cheek. She returns his gaze confirming the silent wish in his heart. Assured that this what they both want, he leans in, and their lips part.
And then they are both blinded as light streams into their private sanctum.
*******
Back in the present, Lucy walks into the kitchen area running her fingers through her still damp hair. She finds Wyatt sitting at a table staring at a laptop screen with his back turned to her. She clears her throat as she approaches and sees that he is scrolling through a Wikipedia page about Wendell Scott.
“Shower should be free shortly,” she tells him. “I think Rufus is just changing his bandage.”
“Mmmhmm,” he mumbles.
“What’s wrong?” she asks taking a seat in the chair beside him.
“Nothing,” he says looking up at her pushing the laptop toward the middle of the table. “I just hoped that history might have changed for the better for Wendell after we left.”
“I’m sorry,” she offers. “I’m afraid it will take more than one NASCAR racer to change hearts and minds in the south in the 1950s.”
Wyatt nods leaning back in his chair with a frustrated expression on his face. He puts his hands on the edge of the table top to push his chair out so he can head to the showers. Before he can stand, however, Lucy places her hand over his.
“Wyatt?”
He sits back down turning his hand so that he can enclose hers in his. He looks at her but doesn’t say a word.
She glances down at their hands, and he can see a faint blush rise to her perfect cheeks. He uses his free hand to place his fingers under her chin and tip her face up to look into his eyes.
“What is it, Lucy?”
She smiles and nervously tucks her hair behind her ear with her own free hand. “It’s just that we’ve had a couple of – umm – close encounters, if you will,” she begins, “and I couldn’t help but notice that you seemed – umm -- hesitant.”
Wyatt returns her smile and with his hand still under her chin, he leans toward her. “I just want to be sure that this is what you really want,” he whispers to her.
She gives an almost imperceptible nod in reply and meets his lips with hers.
The feel of her lips on his is more liberating than he had anticipated. It’s as if suddenly all of his doubts that he could love again and fears that he was worthy of love from someone as perfect as Lucy Preston dissipates in the air around them.
As Wyatt moves his hand to reposition it so he can pull her closer to him, the door alarm sounds triggering an immediate reaction for them to separate without a single body part touching any longer.
They both listen closely as they hear Connor and Agent Christopher’s voices approach from the entrance. Recognizing that they are about to be rudely interrupted yet again, they exchange frustrated smiles once more and burst out laughing.
“One day,” he promises.
“One day,” she agrees.

Timeless “Mrs. Sherlock Holmes” Reaction
Where are the words? To describe this episode? I don’t know if I have them yet, but I’ll try my hardest.
I don’t usually write a reaction so fast, but this episode has me drowning in feels.
The Minor Story Points:
Okay all I’ll say about this opening scene is Hollywoodland morning vs. this scene. No comparison. I won’t waste my time trying to explain this away for people who want to see it for what it isn’t.
As far as the scene with Flynn and Wyatt in the bathroom. I applaud Flynn for trying to prod Wyatt’s jealousy while also calling him out. Wyatt needs to talk to Lucy. And what we see here from Wyatt isn’t just a jealous rage like some people make it out to be. I’ve posted about it before and I’ll say it again. To Wyatt the soldier, Flynn is a terrorist. Just as bad as the men he fought in Syria. He has every right to be concerned. He can’t tell Lucy or Flynn what to do, but I’d be shocked if Wyatt didn’t react in this way. Not everyone’s heart is as big as Lucy’s, not so quick to forgive. And that’s okay.
“Sir control your wife”
I swear I head the squealing from g*rcy fans from my bedroom, but chill, k? Flynn was the closest to Lucy in that moment. It was also 1919. And Lucy didn’t look overly pleased with the accusation.
“Sorry, I don’t take romantic disputes.”
Just... everything about this scene. This is the catalyst Lucy and Wyatt need to have a real discussion, and discuss they do.
“What she needs to do is stop making speeches.”
I will never get over Timeless’ history aspects. It would be crowd pleasing if all the women were all gungho about suffrage, but that just wasn’t the reality. This is real history. It’s not as cut and dry as we want it to be.
“The time is now!”
But what was even more beautiful is the way they displayed the change of heart for her. It wasn’t just through words. It was through getting down in the trenches with the rest of the women, seeing first hand what all of this was really about.
Characters and Relationships:
Connor “The Most Honorable Battle is the Losing One” Mason
Honestly, that’s all I really have to say about that. It was a beautiful line. Keep at it, Mason.
Rufus “I’m Not Gonna Die Today” Carlin
Okay but this was hilarious. Way to see the positive out of the visions. I don’t have any real deep thoughts on this.
Rufus and Flynn Tag Teaming
This was a great move by the writers. They’re partnership was effective and hilarious. I hope to see it again.
Riya
I was very worried about them at the beginning, thinking we were going to have another whole episode of Rufus being super pissy about the visions and Jiya getting the blunt end of everything. And the first scene proved me almost right. It was Rufus at his max level of dickery, and I was about to be furious.
But THEN COMES THAT BEAUTIFUL END SCENE.
It is exactly what needed to happen. Up until now Rufus has only been avoiding avoiding avoiding the problem, and that’s where tension builds in a relationship, but here he comes clean, says what he’s feeling, and that’s where relationships find healing. Now they’re going to move forward, face the future together instead of against each other. I’m pretty damn pleased with that.
Emma
I knew there had to be more to this woman than met the eye, and I was right. The story she gave was one that everyone feels sympathy towards, no matter who was the victim or what they’ve done. I’m also pleased in general that this female villain is so much more than just a gun in tight clothes like female villains can tend to be. Her brain is what makes her valuable and up until the end of this episode she hasn’t been kept around as a sex toy or anything like that. She is a self-made villain rather than being the side show of a male villain.
Although all of this made me call into question her devotion to Rittenhouse for three reasons:
1) Rittenhouse sought her out. They came to find her from Cal Tech. She had aspirations before this, so since her loyalty to Rittenhouse isn’t blood deep, that leaves so room for personal doubt about why she joined them in the first place. And I think 1919 is going to be the beginning of a chain reaction for her losing loyalty to Nicholas and Rittenhouse.
2) They left her in the 1800s as a means of proving loyalty. Did that mean she had done things in the past to call her loyalty into question? Or just because she wasn’t pureblood? Either way I think that might build some resentment.
3) She’s beginning to see what Rittenhouse is really about, and she’s not sure if she wants to be a full part of it.
Flemma
Okay first off, I love this ship name. Second, I always thought the idea of Flemma was just a crazy idea that I had fleeting thoughts about in season 1, BUT HOLY CRAP IF TONIGHTS EPISODE DIDN’T REIGNITE THAT FLAME.
“This gets you all hot and bothered doesn’t it?”
“Did I hurt your psycho feelings when I double crossed you?”
There are exactly 19082340923 things that Emma could have said in this scene to get under Flynn’s skin, but these are the two she chose. They’re pretty personal. And very full of implications. I’m getting a sense some hanky panky went down in the Mothership with these two in it.
“Was any of it true?”
Flynn takes on a very passionate, emotional response to this scene with Emma. To me it didn’t seem rooted in anger, but instead rooted in hurt. The way one feels when they get betrayed by someone they cared for. And I get the sense that Flynn cared for Emma at least a little bit.
Jessica F*cking Logan
She’s been walking a tightrope with me since her very first scene. A very thin tightrope. In Salem she was a bitch to Wyatt. In JFK she was a fun addition kind of. In Delta Blues she was exactly where she needed to be nonexistent. And here in Sherlock Holmes she just fell off the tight rope. This chick had the discussion with Lucy during JFK, she knows that there was a thing with Lucy and Wyatt, but she makes damn sure to make out with him RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY BABY GIRL. Uh uh. Nope. She’s up to no good. And at first I thought she might just be being petty but NOPE. She’s somehow connected to Rittenhouse and is intentionally trying to drive a wedge between Lucy and Wyatt. I’m not having that. This Yoko needs to make like a tree and leaf.
This is all for my first post.... to be continued with a Lucy, Wyatt, and Lyatt post in a couple minutes. Stay tuned.

Animorphs: The Musical
Okay first off, a disclaimer: I outlined this originally not as a musical that would exist as an adaptation of the books, but as something that is created, maybe ten-fifteen years post-war, within the universe of the books (or more precisely, within my own post-series AU that I roughed out here - TL;DR is that Rachel’s alive and the animorphs as a group aren’t big fans of the spotlight). This affected things in specific ways, but most importantly:
Ax doesn’t want to be focused on - he doesn’t like earth music, and he doesn’t understand this form of storytelling. As such, he plays a smaller role in the show than he might deserve to.
I can’t imagine them ever telling people on earth certain things (David will be a secret taken to the grave, for example; Aftran/Karen’s involvement may have been kept quiet to protect the (still a tiny child) Karen; and while the role of the Ellimist has been shared with the Andalites it’s not exactly a well-known thing on earth because seriously can you imagine the amount of scepticism)
That said, there’s no reason this version wouldn’t work as an adaptation, it just leaves out certain things that I think we’d all miss if we were watching it IRL. I was thinking more about how the actual Animorphs would feel about their lives going on stage.
Notes:
1. I’ve used songs from actual musicals as stand-ins, and none of them are exact fits. Mostly they convey the right kind of feel and pace for the moment.
2. Each animorph has a ‘keynote’ through the show; something life-changing that they volunteered. Jake’s and Marco’s were easy; Cassie, Rachel and Tobias elected to keep their real life-changing moments to themselves (Aftran, David, and Elfangor respectively) and so theirs are a little different. Ax asked not to be given one.
3. The morphs are done with puppetry, with little emphasis placed on the transition. For small morphs (bugs and birds), the child actors can operate the puppets themselves; for battle morphs, adult puppeteers form the shape of the animal around them. This means you can see the child actor performing/emoting even within a fight scene. For the style of puppets I’m thinking of, check out the stage adaptation of His Dark Materials that was done a while back by the national theatre (some images here and here).
4. I’m also working under the assumption that we’re using pretty minimal sets, so big set changes aren’t hugely necessary.
This got SUPER long, so I’ve put it under a cut.
Act 1
The house lights go down. Over the speakers we hear a confused buzz of communication: some thoughtspeech (Marco! On your left! Keep moving!) and some radio communication (military instructions and people panicking). This cuts when the lights slam up, and we’re on the bridge of the Yeerk mothership; everything is frozen; Tobias speaks up, asking how everything came to this? [feel of Mama Who Bore Me from Spring Awakening]
A quick shift takes as back three and a bit years, it’s a busy mall. We see the kids as they are that night: Jake and Tobias bickering over the arcade games; Tobias tagging along; Rachel having dragged Cassie out shopping. There’s a chorus number here to set the mood [feels a little like Hard-Knock Life from Annie, upbeat but work-a-day], interrupted once for each animorph as they explain who they are. Tobias tells us about Jake; Jake tells us about Marco; Marco tells us about Cassie; Cassie tells us about Rachel; Rachel tells us about Tobias. They’re just one-two line descriptions (‘that’s Cassie, who Jake fancies but won’t admit it. Animal nerd.’), just enough to get a feel for who these kids are. The kids meet; decide to walk home together through the construction site.
The whole scene at the construction site has the kids at the front of the stage, looking out into the audience. We never see Elfangor (Andalite diplomatics felt it would be disrespectful to hologram him, so the director worked around this). But Tobias speaks to the audience, narrating the events of the scene (it stays fairly brief, but meaningful) and speaking Elfangor’s words (after all, he’s the one who has the right to). As they flee the scene, Chapman (whose name is changed for the show) is identified as a controller, and Tom with him.
The next day the kids end up at Cassie’s barn. They’ve all tried morphing, and now it’s time for the debate about what they’re going to do. The song of this argument is reminiscent of My Shot from Hamilton, but less solo and more alternating between the characters. Marco cutting in (like ‘Geniuses, lower your voices’ and later ‘I imagine death so much it feels more like a memory’ in the original) in counterpoint, arguing to protect themselves and their families, Tobias impassioned, Jake mediating, etc. They conclude, of course, that they’ll fight - and Marco will be with them, for now.
The first keynote is Tobias’s, opening when he comes to Jake after their first mission (not seen on stage) and can’t change back from hawk. He sings us through his journey from book #3, describing his first kill and the mall fly-through as the chorus shows us it in freeze-frame behind him [my closest match is with Deep Into The Ground from Billy Elliot, but it needs more fear/climax in it to work].
Montage time! The fighting and spying begins in earnest [Solidarity, from Billy Elliot]. As the music shifts between its two threads, we have quiet moments that continue the story - Ax is rescued in a brief scene, and Eva is revealed as the host of Visser One - but the fight returns and there is no time to stop and recover. Marco’s character shifts towards the end of the song and Cassie remarks on how much more dedicated he is now.
Rachel’s keynote now [imagine something similar to Your Obedient Servant from Hamilton, but sung all by one person swinging between aspects of their personality] consists of some emotional elements of #32 blended with #12; no plot as such, just Rachel trying to establish herself as rightfully furious with the world as it is as her father moves away and her life becomes more violent.
Go straight to Cassie’s keynote, which incorporates parts of #29; her friends are no longer there and she is going to the Yeerk pool alone, cooperating with the Yeerk Peace Movement (her interaction with Ilim standing in, in the show, for the big shift of perspective in #19) and struggling between not wanting to hurt anyone and not wanting to abandon her friends [feels like Burn from Hamilton].
The build of the end of Act 2 is largely instrumental [feels very like Angry Dance from Billy Elliot] - it’s another montage sequence, but this is darker and faster and much more violent. The kids are thrown about, they lose limbs in morph and get back up; the stage is relatively dark with flashes of dracon fire; hologram hork-bajir and taxxons storm across the stage; Jake comes within an inch of having to kill Tom only to be pulled away by Cassie. Human controllers are out in force, trying to hunt them down. Visser Three is heard over the speakers. The final moment of the sequence sees the kids crawl, exhausted, into bed (the beds are a level up, right at the back of the stage), only to jerk awake; their parents call out and ask if something’s wrong; the kids reply together ‘Nothing. I’m fine.’ Lights out. End of Act one.
[interval where the actual animorphs in the audience eat way too much ice cream and cling onto each other a lot]
Act Two
A startlingly bright open [think The Nicest Kids In Town from Hairspray [warning for racial slur in that song], and even some of the lyrics work] - it’s the Sharing, posters and flyers everywhere, full on Disneying it up with upsetting cheerfulness as the Animorphs slip between them at school, battling exhaustion and deadlines. We see Marco forcing himself to grin at the mirror; Cassie pick out a sliver of Hork-Bajir flesh from between her teeth; Jake trying to act normal around Tom; Rachel flipping off someone trying to flirt with her.
We ease straight into Marco’s keynote as he skips school to get away from all of this stuff, ending up in town where he sees Visser One. Marco’s keynote is then #30, compressed into one song [feels like The Room Where It Happens from Hamilton, with the idea of the ‘bright clean line’ of ruthlessness repeating through the song]. When the song stops we get the ‘Mum’ ‘It’s the boy’ exchange; Eva falls and all the lights cut except a spot on Marco, who tells us that he doesn’t remember how he got down from the mountain. Cut to Marco and Jake in the forest when Marco comes back to himself. They part.
Some indication that time has passed, then we move on to Jake’s keynote - which is, of course, #31. Jake walks in on Tom and his father arguing (Tom: ‘FIVE DAYS?!?!’ Jake, aside: ‘...Five days?’), slips the other animorphs and we have the build to the scene on the docks - use a stage-revolve to show Jake frozen and Tom with the knife behind his back. It ends in chaos, and Jake pulling Tom out of the water; and meeting Marco’s eyes from across the stage, a nod of acknowledgement. [I have And All That Jazz from Chicago as a stand-in for this because of the way it builds, but really I need something with more spirals of desperation and less pizzazz].
We then move quickly through the big reveal - rescuing all the families except Jake’s - and go to living in the Hork-Bajir valley. The kids decide to recruit the auxillary animorphs, and go to the hospital [Right Hand Man from Hamilton]. For logistical reasons, James is the only one you actually see on stage.
We have a moment of peace/tension on the brink of the final mission [Who Wants To Live Forever from We Will Rock You, but probably shorter].
The final fight is shown in glimpses and flickers, until we’re on the bridge of the mothership again where we started. The Blade Ship goes down but Rachel and Tom survive (I’ll write why into an AU one day, but for now I ask you to just go with it). The six kids end up on stage, pulling close together, holding hands, frightened of the world to come [probably an unholy mix of Who Lives Who Dies Who Tells Your Story from Hamilton and Stay I Pray You from Anastasia. Everyone is sobbing]; the lights narrow until only they are lit, and they’re asking if they’ve done enough...
Lights down. End of Act Two.
~
So uh. Yeah. That was super long and now I’ve got to dash, but please do let me know what you think XD
#animorphs#animorphs: the musical#h's animorphs au#needs a better tag#jesus my wrists hurt now I typed that all way too fast

Pick 10 ships before reading/answering the questions
chronologically ordered
I found this posted on someone’s blog and even though I want tagged I decided to do it anyway
1. Destiel (Supernatural)
2. Sabriel (Supernatural)
3. Drarry (Harry Potter)
4. Spirk(Star Trek TOS/AOS)
5. Johnlock (Sherlock BBC)
6. Merthur (Merlin)
7. Cockles (Supernatural actors{Misha and Jensen )
8. Jim/Pam(The Office)
9. Stony(Marvel)
10. Spideypool (Marvel)
1 - Do you remember the episode/scene/ chapter that you first started shipping 6?
Merlin was recommended to me by a friend that already shipped Merthur, so I ended up walking into it expecting to ship it. I already shipped it by the end of the first season because they are so reliant on each other and “two sides of the same coin” I call soulmates
2 - Have you ever read a fic about 2?
Yes I have. I actually started shipping it because of fan fiction because there isn’t a ton of fule for it in the show. Way to go random destiel works for getting into a new ship*distant sounds of applause*
3 - Has a picture of 4 ever been your screensaver/ profile pic / tumblr?
Yes it actually is my phone screensaver currently. I’m rewatching TOS and it’s wonderful. My name is based around an inside joke with my brother regarding spirk and the enterprise so I guess that counts for something I found a shirt with the enterprise that had a rainbow trail behind it and my brother said “You know it’s because Kirk and Spock are getting it on” and I said “It’s just the spacerainbows having some fun”. Yeah that probably didn’t need to be said. Anyway…
4 - If 7 were to suddenly break up today, what would your reaction be?
I’d cry. Cockles is beautiful. The conventions would fall and it would be sad. They are wonderful together and they know it. I would never let this happen. Even if they aren’t actually together*for all that we know* so much could happen if it stopped. Also a good section of tumblr would probably be crying and rage posting.
5 - Why is 1 so important?
I don’t know if this question means important to me or the fandom so I’ll explain my thoughts on both. For me it seems so important because Dean has been alone for most of his life constantly worrying about protecting his little brother. He always needed to be strong enough to protect because there was no one really there to protect him. Then enters Castiel, a celestial being capable of killing thousands in seconds. He’s an angel of the lord who “gripped Dean right and raised him from perdition” He has the capability to protect Dean, but Dean needs to be able to let him. I feel like this took many seasons for him to finally admit and he still doesn’t but through all of it while Castiel looses and regains his mojo Dean is always there for as much as he can. They protect one another. Dean can finally have the comfort he needs. And then there’s Cas. He’s an angel. They appear as emotionless beings that could care less about the world but Castiel isn’t, and right at the beginning in season 4 you could tell that he knew this. He was scared to admit to himself that he could and did feel. The first person he confides in is Dean. Throughout the show he embraces these feelings and grows new ones and learns the meaning of love and family*cried over season 12 episode 12* They’re always there for each other, and even if the show never shows them as anything other than platonic, their still friendship means so much. As for the fandom as a whole, I feel as though it’s provided a focus point and feeling to build. I feel like all good shows have two characters that fit so perfectly, either as friends or lovers, together; just watching the relationship solidify and grow is just showing how amazing character development can be. Then there is the fandom uniting over it. I don’t really care if you ship destiel or not or you ship wincest or samstiel or nothing at all, you still know that it exists and is something that is talked about in the show. The fact that it has come up as a topic in the show itself shows how much it has affected the Supernatural fandom as a whole.
6 - Which one has the strongest bond?
I’d have to say Spirk. Throughout both aos and tos they would do anything for each other. They would stand by each other during death and fight to save each other. Not to mention the Vulcan bonding or honds. #t’hy’la
7 - Which ship has lasted the longest
Spirk. Probably. I mean it’s know as one of the first slash pairings in existence and one of the first to actually start the spread of a fandom gathering and forming around one thing. It’s sometimes called the flagship or the mothership. I’ve shipped it since I was a little kid because I grew up watching tos and the movies. My dad said would say that they were secretly gay for one another as a joke and my small young mind believed him so I got mad whenever they were ever with anyone else and they shipped caried over to when I took to watching it again on my own. And small me also noticed how similar their actions were to straight couples and I asked my dad if they were dating and that’s what led to the secretly gay thing that my dad started saying
8 - How many times, if ever, has 6 broken up I mean.
They never canonically got together and one of them is kinda dead now until further notice. If you want to count when and before Arthur dies because of the fight and his death than sure, but there were other times when they would get with other people and Arthur was kinda married to Gwen by the end of the show so…
9 - If the world was suddenly thrust into a zombie apocalypse, which ship would make it out alive? 2 or 8?
2. Sorry Jim and Pam but you’re being pinned against a hunter who deals with zombies on a daily basis-one of the actually less crazy things he’s seen- and an arch angel capable of snapping his fingers and changing things to fit his desires. I think they would be pretty good. Also angels can heal and not die unless killed by an angel blade or in Gabriel’s case an arch angel blade, so unless a zombie can find one and stab Gabe I think they’d make it out pretty unscathed. 10 - Did 7 ever have to hide their relationship for any reasons? I mean, this could be canon, but for all I know it isn’t, soooo i don’t really know the answer but for all we know they could secretly be hiding it right now.
11 - Is 4 still together?
I mean, is you take into account the new information brought from aos you know they’ve known and been friends with each other until Jim’s death. So I can only imagine that if it truly were canon they would still be together because they’d be able to go against time as they’ve done it before for each other.
12 - Is 10 canon?
Na, the only canon thing on my list is Jim and Pam. They are adorable and great btw. I shipped them by the end of the very short first season and all their interactions are adorable and all the stuff they go through to finally be happy together and when the start a family, aaaaaaaaa, it’s just too great.
13 - If all 10 ships were put into a couple’s Hunger Games, which couple would win?
If I had to answer honestly I’d say it come down between 1 and 2 because of the healing capabilities, and then it would be a 4 way suicide. Sam and Dean would never be able to kill each other and I doubt Cas and Gabe would want to kill each other either, so it would either be a battle that would never end or a suicide. Also DON’T THROW MY CHILDREN INTO A PIT OF DEATH i cry
14 - Has anyone ever tried to sabotage 5?
Mary Watson… you know how she ended up. She’s actually great though.
15 - Do you spend hours a day going though 3’s tag
Not as much as I used to but if I get a sudden urge.
16 - If an evil witch descended from the sky and told you that you had to pick one of the ten ships to break up forever or else she’d break them all up, which ship would you SINK?!
Stony. Sorry, but civil war kinda happened. If that fight doesn’t count as a break up as is for their not canon pairings I don’t really know what does.
#destiel#sabriel#drarry#spirk#tos spirk#aos spirk#jim and pam#merthur#misha collins#jensen ackles#stony#spideypool#johnlock#supernatural#star trek#merlin#the office#marvel#sherlock#harry potter

Random May Thought #1
I think I may have forgotten how to properly write an entry on Tumblr. Much features have changed since I last posted here. If it weren’t for Instagram’s connect to Tumblr feature, I wouldn’t have updated this blog in years. Last I posted was a picture of my penmanship in Mandarin. I was still a student in China back then. And well now, I am back to the mothership.
Two years ago, COVID-19 didn’t exist. Oh wait, it did, they just hadn’t named it yet or they haven’t discovered it yet (I actually remember they used to call it nCoV). Two years ago, I was still lying in my bed in my spacious dorm room probably wondering why time flew so fast. Two years ago, I was a completely different person. I had plans two years later, you know. Plans that got soiled. I didn’t think I would still be here. I should be experiencing spring elsewhere and yet I’m basking in the scorching heat of summer in the Republic of the Philippines. Not that I’m complaining. Alright, fine, I am.
Life has been pretty tough lately. I think I wrote the same thing in one of my book reviews in Goodreads. After reading that book by Paul Kalanithi, I became more aware of how finite life is. I’ve always loved books that sorta ended in tragedies (maybe it’s the masochist in me lmao). But reading a memoir of someone who suffered a similar fate to those fictional characters I’ve read before, reading through his personal struggle made me think about how life—at the end of it all—is truly fragile.
I also read through my old entries in here. I laughed at some. I smiled at some. I sorta became sad after reading some entries. But I’m glad I wrote. Now, I’m feeling like continuing this thing I do often when I’m overwhelmed by life: writing. There’s a sense of bittersweetness to reading your old diary or journal entries for the world to see. Two nights ago, I dug through my old notebooks and read some of my written entries in there. Ten, nine, eight years ago versions of me who loved writing and sharing her thoughts on pages of now worn-out notebooks. Again, I’m glad I wrote.
Writing is probably something I’m not really best at but I’m good at. And suffice to say, I enjoy it. I love writing and it’s probably going to be the end of me. Funny how going back home, here in the mountains of Rizal, transforms me into a sentimental freak. The life in the city is probably the most ideal, future-focused lifestyle but the old soul in me will always go back and try to rekindle the sad and happy memories of the past.
Right now, I’m sat at the end of my bed. With a laptop. Typing these random thoughts. I see my piano on the left. I see my bookshelves right in front of me. And I see my luggage, to my right, that I haven’t used since I got back from China (I didn’t use this for my trip to Japan, I used a smaller one lmao).
I leafed through the pages of my old planner. It was the planner I used for my final year in university. I saw this “Dream Board” that I ever so creatively put together using cutouts from magazines, stickers, and sticky notes. I wrote there that I would make films, music, and literature. Funny how those “dreams” became reality. One by one. I also remember listing down the places I’d always wanted to visit in that planner. I remember writing all the countries that I would, one day, visit. And by some weird miracle, I’ve ticked off so many of those places. Well, except Amsterdam (because damn, the Netherlands is so far away). But don’t worry self, we’ll get there. Eventually. Lmao.
My dream board was extended to the next page where I listed down so many things that I would save up for. Teenage me would be proud of herself because ten years later, she has owned that John Green book collection (she now even has at least three versions of each book John Green has published, I know that’s ridiculous but please stop judging me lol), she has also owned two MacBooks (an Air in 2015 and a Pro in 2020), she has bought a digital piano (God, I srsly am in love with this piano, teenage me would cry out of joy I swear), and she has travelled to a lot of her dream destinations and countries. Teenage me would be so proud of who she has become. I seriously sighed as I typed that last line.
Ten years. Feels like an entire lifetime ago. I didn’t think life would be this fast-paced. I mean, thanks technology but boohoo because here I am, somehow struggling, asking myself every single day, hour, minute why adulting has to be this difficult. I sorta blame my teenage self because, she wished for this moment. She wished to fast-forward to my yuppy self. But then again, who am I to complain, THAT WAS ME ten years ago. Bitch, you did not. Lmao.
Earlier this afternoon, it’s nighttime as I type this, I spoke with one of my co-workers. We haven’t known each other that very long. But it feels like we’ve known each other forever. She’s a Libra, just like me. She’s a 92-liner, too. Oh the joy! And she’s a psych major, I envy her. Sometimes I still wonder why I didn’t take that path in university. Accountancy was shit and as much as I loved my Sintang Paaralan, I just didn’t want to be there anymore for personal reasons. You’d know, if you ever met me in person, I’ll tell you. Wow, am I really that good at moving on? Anyway, being a communication major is and was a great experience. I hate competitions but I joined so many competitions in that field and lost some but you gotta win some, right? So I did. Thank you for the wonderful experiences, Piyu.
Whoa, I didn’t think I’d be writing this long. But I’m not done yet. So as I was saying, I spoke with her. She isn’t just a colleague to me now but more like a best friend. I never thought I would meet someone my age who spoke the same language as me before her. I’m a nerd. If that isn’t already obvious. And if being caught by our director talking about Sigmund Freud and Maria Montessori isn’t enough proof, then I guess let’s talk about global warming, greenhouse effect, and the melting polar caps. I like talking about ideas, phenomenas, and books. Crucify me! #ReasonsWhyImStillSingle
I’d been praying about something recently. And I only got that clarity when I finally spoke to her about it. We’ve been on this topic for about a month now. And occasionally we like to make fun of this topic. But I guess, when something isn’t really meant for you, God will make a way for it to not, you know, find its way to you. Thank you, LORD.
She told me so many things that made me realize that the person I like right now probably has his reasons why he’s not making the first move. And I understood that. She insisted that my feelings were valid and it was okay for me to feel those things—to think those things. But oh my goodness, I told her, this person is so lucky. Like I swear to God. Because I don’t really “like” guys that often. I don’t feel easily attracted to anyone. So it is by some miracle that I ended up liking this particular human sub-specie (bro, you should feel privileged, too bad you won’t be able to read this). Anyway, It was so clear to me. And I had to move on. Immediately. But what’s weird about it is that I just took a nap. And when I woke up from that nap this afternoon I felt nothing. Like that feeling expired almost immediately. It completely dissipated. So ridiculous, right? I’ve harbored feelings for this person for some time now (it hasn’t been that long to be honest) and I’m just over that feeling now. In an instant, too. I don’t know why. It’s probably one of my talents.
Wow, I really do move on fast. Don’t I? Am I cruel (to myself) that way?
So I had decided to busy myself with work. Plan about my graduate studies. And hope for the best. But for now, I’ll enjoy the rest of my leave from work. I sighed. Again. As I wrote that. My head hurts. I don’t know why. But it does. And I almost typed that in Korean.
On another topic, I’m thinking about compiling all of my literary works in some way. I also feel like commissioning my niece and my older brother to illustrate some of my poems for me. I’ve actually thought about this like a year ago amidst the pandemic. But the lazy ass in me just kept postponing. And I blame myself for procrastinating because all my “plans” haven’t come to fruition. But I’ll get my shit together. Eventually. I need to make this happen. At least before I expire. Lmao.
P.S. I’m tired. I actually stayed up late last night. Or should I say earlier this morning. I video called one of my ex-colleagues. It was also a really nice chat. But I’m not used to staying up late anymore. I’ve burned tons of midnight oil in university. NEVER AGAIN. I’m sleepy to be honest.
P.P.S. Tomorrow’s my elder sister’s birthday. I’m going to post ancient pictures of her on my stories.

Fandom Related Question I’m Going to Answer Although Nobody Asked Me Just Because I Want To
A: Your current OTP.
My all time OTP is by a landslide Zutara, but lately I’ve been on a Miraculous Ladybug kick and I’ve been especially passionate about the lovesquare (have you seen that dance seen? eek!). I know a lot of people prefer specific pairing within the square, but they’re all the same people so I don’t really care. I like all the interactions.
B: A pairing you initially didn’t consider but someone changed your mind.
Well the first one that comes to mind is Talisto (Talia and Mephisto) from LoliRock. It’s by far the most popular ship in the fandom and I certainly understand the appeal, but it wasn’t something that stood out to me. Personally my biggest ship in that fandom was Irisana (Iris and Auriana)
C: A pairing you wish you shipped, but just can't.
I can think of a few sitcoms where the main pairing was something I never really liked, such as Ross and Rachel on Friends or JD and Elliot on Scrubs.
D: What was the first thing you ever contributed to a fandom?
I wrote a Zutara fic and posted it on my Deviant Art long before I really knew what fandoms and shipping even were. Man was I naive.
E: Have you added anything stupid/cracky/hilarious to your fandom, if so, what?
Have I added anything stupid to my fandom? Some of the stuff I’ve written is pretty stupid. And I sometimes make some really ridiculous headcannons. But nothing specific comes to mind.
F: What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom? What fandom was it?
Probably the ATLA fandom. I didn’t get into HP until later on otherwise it’d probably be that. ATLA was sort of the first thing I became kinda obsessed about. I was livid about Zutara and Suki and Sokka are also so important to me. I was actually just reminded of how amazing Suki is on a post and it made me want to rewatch the series.
G: What was your first fandom?
Again, ATLA. My first fandom, which I am still a part of.
H: Do you prefer real-life TV shows or animated TV shows?
Normally real-life. Then I don’t feel like I have to hide it or make excuses for watching it. Because when I watch animated shows my brothers are always making fun of me for being a giant kid which doesn’t actually stop me from watching it, but I still prefer the option without the ridicule.
I: Has tumblr caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why?
I don’t think that’s ever happened to me. If I stop liking a fandom it’s normally because of me getting bored with it or upset about the writing.
J: Name a fandom you didn’t care/think about until you saw it all over tumblr.
Supernatural. All the way. I don’t even really watch it. I’ve seen the first few seasons and a few random episodes but I haven’t watched the whole thing. Yet I have Destiel stuff on my dash all the time and I’m always reading Destiel fanfic that pops up.
K: How do you feel about the other people in your current fandom(s).
Well with my latest obsession, Miraculous Ladybug, I feel like there’s a lot of homophobia and a lot of unnecessary idealization of Chloe. I mean, Chloe is going to get a Miraculous and right now I hate that. I don’t think she deserves it and she would need to be written a Zuko-level redemption arc for me to be happy about it, but only a small number of people seem to care. It’s like they’re just excusing her behavior. I hate that.
L: Your favorite fanartist/author gives you one request, what do you ask for?
If I could have only one request I’d probably ask for something Zutara. Probably something to fix that horrible ending. Although, who knows, I might ask for something in my current obsession. I’d love to see some Broppy or Lovesquare work.
M: A person who got you into a fandom and what fandom they pulled you in to.
Actually, I didn’t get in to Miraculous Ladybug until after I got into LoliRock and one of the blogs I followed posted about how much of a great show it was. I respected and admired them enough for the LoliRock stuff that they posted, that I decided to check out Miraculous Ladybug. Now I’m obsessed.
N: Your favorite fandom (for the people; not the thing you fangirl over).
For the people? Probably HP fandom. It’s like the mothership of fandoms. Everybody knows HP and talks about HP. There are a few bad bugs but mostly everybody is just so awesome. They all just realize how special HP is to our generation.
O: Choose a song at random, what ship does it remind you of?
The only song I can think of under such pressure is Chore by Mark Forster and that’s because I just saw an amazing fan made animation for Broppy that had that song and it literally made me cry. It was beautiful.
P: Invent a random AU for any fandom (we always need more ideas).
Au for Miraculous Ladybug: Uhm Girl Genius Au. Instead of having Miraculous, Marinette and Adrien have sparks and have to face off against another spark, the evil father of Adren who is most definitely not like Gil’s father.
Q: A ship you’ve abandoned and why.
Uhm let’s see. I shipped Eretria and Amberle in the first season of Shannara Chronicles. But seeing as how Amberle is now a tree I guess when I finally see season two that ship will be out the window.
R: A pairing you ship that you don’t think anyone else ships.
Uhm, I’m pretty passionate about Luna and Ginny in the HP fandom but I don’t really ever see anybody else ever shipping them. Which sucks.
S: What's a headcanon you have?
Well I have a lot of headcanons but since I’m assuming this question is about my current fandom, which is Miraculous Ladybug, I’d say that I headcanon Rose and Juleka as precious lesbians.
T: What are your favorite male/male ships or female/female ships?
I have plenty of gay/les ships but some of my favorites: Wolfstar, Supercorp, Destiel, Johnlock.
U: What are your favorite male/female ships?
Some all time favorite ships: Zutara, DoctorSong, Zenmasters, .
* V: Do you have any 3-way ships? If so, what?
I am not opposed to the 3-way ship of the three main girls in LoliRock but otherwise I can’t really think of any others.
W: 5 favorite characters from 5 different fandoms.
from my five most recent obsessions
Harry Potter fandom: Luna is definitely my favorite character. I adore her.
ATLA fandom: Suki by far. I sometimes go through the series and just watch the episodes with her in it.
Miraculous Ladybug fandom: Alya. That scene where she flawlessly dances Adrien and Marinette closer to together and then goes back to her boyfriend who has an adorable little smirk. I just can’t handle it.
Trolls fandom: Aside from Branch who is sarcasm king, my favorite background character is Guy Diamond. He would make for an amazing best friend.
Brooklyn 99 fandom: Holt is my favorite character. When he pretends to be straight or when he acts especially gay are the best parts.
X: 3 OTPs from 3 different fandoms.
From 3 random fandoms
OUAT fandom: Captainswan although I haven’t really been into OUAT lately.
MCU fandom: ScienceBros!
SW fandom: Stormpilot for TFA and Rebelcaptain for Rogue One
Y: A fandom you’re in but have no ships from.
Lord of the Rings. I support some of the ships (Frodo and Sam, Barduil, Gimli and Legolas) but mostly when I read/watch LOTR I don’t really ship anybody.
Z: What's a ship that you want to ship publicly, but everyone on tumblr hates it so you keep your mouth shut about it?
I don’t think I have any of those. Even when I ship unpopular pairings, I don’t really keep it to myself.

WHO THE HECK IS MY MUSE ANYWAY:
Kim Possible is your basic, average girl – except for the whole ‘saving the world’ thing, which sets her apart from the rest of her teenage counterparts for obvious reasons. She is not, by technical definition, a spy – AND SHE IS NOT A SECRET AGENT. She doesn’t mess around with an alias or a secret identity of any kind. The world knows who she is and what she does. It’s part of why she’s so successful. However, the teen hero shtick is only a small part of her identity – she’s captain of her school’s cheerleading squad, is on the swim team, does after school tutoring, is the head of the dance committee at school, is an active member on the yearbook committee and in the environmental club, and runs her own start-up business that, aside from saving the world, includes things like babysitting, house sitting, pet sitting, etc. As involved as she is, it’s no wonder she’s one of the more popular students at school.
POINTS OF INTEREST:
She’s an internationally known hero with no secret identity – she never had the option for one and she prefers it this way.
Despite being a generally nice and polite person, Kim can be overly critical of others at times, asserting that she knows what’s best for her friends and sometimes forcing her accepted ideas of acceptable trends and behaviors on said friends.
Incredibly stubborn. While she does keep it under control for the most part, she sticks to her guns and it’s hard to change her mind once it’s made up. She also can’t resist a challenge and doesn’t back down easily.
WHAT THEY’VE BEEN UP TO RECENTLY:
Prepping the cheer squad for competition season. While they’re in great shape for football season, they’re not at the level of perfection needed to cinch the title of state champions, and her ambitions for this season are on a national level. If only she can get Bonnie to stay in her spot on the pyramid so it won’t collapse.
When a mission comes her way, she takes it no matter what her schedule looks like. Her most recent capers can be found on her website, or with a quick Google search. Because this doesn’t provide income and she’s had a drought for babysitting recently, she’s been looking for a part-time job once competition season ends.
WHERE TO FIND THEM:
MIDDLETON, USA: Kim’s hometown since birth. She’s grown up here, and she’s going to be here until she goes off to college.
MIDDLETON HIGH: Home of the three-cheese pizza, even though all the cafeteria ever seems to serve is mystery meat. She’s seventeen, she’s gotta get an education somewhere (even if she does cut class for missions sometimes).
BUENO NACHO: She and Ron practically live there, anyway.
THE MALL: Where else in the world can she catch a movie, eat a pretzel, and get the hottest threads?
CLUB BANANA: Her proverbial mothership, basically.
THE HOSPITAL: Usually doing volunteer work, if not just visiting her mom. One time, she held a clamp in a brain surgery and then threw up for 20 minutes (best mother’s day ever!)
THE SPACE CENTER: Either to utilize labs, equipment, and the forward-thinking minds of science, or to hang with her dad, as teenagers do. Watch your step!
ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD AT ANY GIVEN MOMENT: Paris? She’s been there. Florence? Done that. The Amazonian Rainforest? Forget about it. Just note that if she’s in the mission gear, it’s likely that she’s busy tracking down a foe or seeking out a lead.
CURRENT PLANS:
Whip the squad into shape
Plan a rockin’ homecoming dance
Get ahead on history paper
DESIRED INTERACTIONS:
ANYTHING INVOLVING VILLAINS. Are they attempting to taking over the world? Kim’s obligated to step in and stop it. Are they committing felonies that pose harm to others? She’ll handle that, too. One of her foes is a disgruntled retail employee who almost shut down the internet with an expired can of Vienna sausages because only a small number of people met his demands of everyone in the world paying him $1. There is no antagonist too small.
anything involving other heroes. This goes double for cartoon heroes (looking at all the Jake Longs, Danny Fentons, Randy Cunninghams, Juniper Lees, etc.) – call Kim in for back up, form an alliance, work together on a case – I’ll take almost anything. Some of my favorite threads have been Kim working with and forming relationships with other heroes, and I can never get enough of it.
an ever-cliché but lovely cheerleader x jock dynamic. We don’t have to ship anything, to be honest. Fake dating for the sake of social acceptance is well within my realm of comfort. Unrequited pining is well within my realm of comfort. I just need this for reasons.
dystopian future in shegoton plots. It’s not listed on my verses page (partially due to the fact that I rarely ever use the verse), but I have an AU centered around the dystopian future from a sitch in time where Shego takes over the world. Please join the rebellion. Or join Shego’s mind-controlled army – just do dystopian ‘we have to fix this mess’ things with me.
OFFERED INTERACTIONS:
If your muse is under the age of eleven, Kim is now their babysitter. It is law. I don’t make the rules.
Kim rescuing your character – typically limited to muses of some significance, i.e. politicians, prominent scientists, celebrities, etc. try and think of a reason why a super villain would choose them, of all people, to kidnap or hold hostage.
Anything involving plots from show canon – if I’m not open to it, I’ll let you know, though the list is entertaining and includes everything from swapped brains to truth rays to the ghost of a pirate possessing a foe. Yeah, this show is weird and lovely all at the same time.
Anything I ever put in my wishlist tag, canon, AU, or otherwise.
CURRENT OPEN POST/S:
Anything in my #open tag! Hop on them any time, even the ones with notes.
ANYTHING ELSE?:
If you have a plot you’d like to do and want to talk to me about it, don’t hesitate!

The Arrival
For the record, Star Wars spoilers follow.
Pardon me for not posting any pictures for this post, but we’ve just arrived and sleep is long overdue. It’s now about 11 at night, but my body keeps insisting that it’s nearly 4. What’s more, today was an experiment in nostalgia; hear me out for a moment, but where were you when you realized Star Wars sold out?
It’s something we’ve all known, but not something all have the mental fortitude to conscientiously accept. Today, I sampled the airport McDonald’s and had a Teriyaki burger that was perhaps my greatest burger of the year. The meat was lean with a concise and strong beef flavor, the buns lightly toasted and nearly melted in my hands, it was so fluffy. It featured the difficult-to-find-in-America Japanese mayo, made with only the egg yolks, rather than the whole egg, resulting in a more fatty and richer flavor. The Teriyaki sauce itself was slightly sweet and left my mouth watering with each passing bite. The experience of McDonald’s was so amazing, I was even left in awe at how they actually closed the bag when it was handed to us, rather than just haphazardly throwing everything in. Way better than what I remember as a kid.
That’s how Japan greeted us at the airport; with damn near perfection. We lamped around our area, hitting up a ramen joint that gave me preemptive depression that I would eventually have to leave this country’s food behind; and hit up a couple arcades. It was then, at the arcades, that I was forced to come to the realization that Disney doesn’t care about us anymore; and that George Lucas just may be the hero of the Star Wars universe.
You see, the new Star Wars film, The Last Jedi, just might be the most disappointing movie I’ve seen in the last few years. It’s a failure at a more basic level than Rouge One was. Rouge One had a premise and characters that worked, and while the execution was sloppy, it was ultimately a worthwhile story, and I at least left satisfied with how I used my time. Last Jedi just made me angry that I wasted my time watching characters essentially do nothing for the span of 2 hours, aka my life.
You see, in Last Jedi, nearly every action made by every character is ultimately moot in nature. I’ll use Finn and Rose as the example, just because they’re the most obvious in my eyes. Finn wakes up, and rather than be put to use by exploiting his inside knowledge of how The First Order works, he just does his own thing; rather than trying to help the rebellion when it seems at it’s weakest, he tries to find a girl he doesn’t even really know (yeah, they went through stuff together, but come on); wanders into a misunderstanding with Rose, who just do happens to have the key to fixing the whole problem; comes up with a plan that ultimately fails; when it does fail, they still say it’s worth it cause they freed the animals (this scene really angered me, “my friends are all going to die, but the animals will survive :^)”); trust someone he knows he shouldn’t, anyone named Benicio; is shocked when the named loose moraled Benicio sells him out due to stated loose morals; and gets into a pointless fight with a lady in a dope chrome suit of armor. The absolute worst part was when he planned to sacrifice himself, and rather than just let him die, Rose decides to put both of their lives in jeopardy by ramming him.
Obviously, there’s more to be angry at. What was the point of Luke force ghosting the fight and not dying at the hands of Kylo Ren, if he dies anyway? Why didn’t the Vice Admiral tell people her plan to go to the salt planet? Why do people treat Kylo so specially, and make excuses for him, when he actively chooses the dark side nearly everytime?
What this movie failed at was making a story that mattered. I rewatched Dunkirk on the flight, and I can see the similarities in the films. The difference is that Dunkirk clearly layers the individual stories in a way that makes them all tie together by the climax of the movie, while the timelines in Last Jedi are all over the place. The whole time with Finn and Rose, I could only think about how they seemed to lack urgency in the process, when they had merely hours to save the mothership.
I saw a few missed opportunities as well; small, but I think they would have been nice. On the salt planet, people should be crying due to the salinity in the air. I saw light to medium clothing, so it wasn’t freezing, but why even use the line about it being salt if it didn’t have a purpose? Luke should have fought Kylo, for real, not a force ghost; and ended the fight Blade Runner style, where Kylo cries and blames the tears on the environment, rather than his realization of his emotions.
See, at the very least, Gorge Lucas had a plan to let other artists explore and use the Star Wars universe. They could tell their own stories using a landscape that we were all familiar with; but that’s dead now. Disney killed it. Gorge learned the hard way he wasn’t the creative visionary we thought he was. He just had the property others wanted to use.
Perhaps the best example of this is the Family Guy Star Wars special. Note, I haven’t actually seen Family Guy since freshman year of high school, but my point stands. Family Guy is not a family friendly show in the least, but they were allowed to use the Star Wars brand to tell their toilet humor jokes. Would Disney be cool with that? idk, prob not
What I’m trying to say is this: I saw a poster for the new Star Wars movie in a claw machine at the arcade today, and it made me really really mad.
That’s all.
