Bi Steve Harrington is really important to me and it’s a bummer that so much fan content with bi Steve does not really do bi people or the bi experience justice. I’ve ranted to people before but it’s nothing heinous, jsut that when you make content for an mlm ship with a bi character (it happens with every ship like that) it kind of highlights how common romance tropes are centred around monosexual people.

when you write someone realising their bisexuality and then link that to the ship that is endgame for your fan content you can end up writing a character who, because their same gender partner is their endgame perfect partner that changed everything, it’s seems like either they are now only attracted to the same gender or that liking the opposite gender was not as valid/fufilling/meaningful/important.

Which would be fine if you aren’t writing the character as bi.

Often with Steve I get whats going because I too like the idea Steve’s previous relationships with women (ignoring Nancy for the purposes of simplicity) were unfulfilling and not incredibly meaningful for Steve, it’s good characterisation. The issue is when it feels like it’s *because* they were women, which is impression often made when Steve is kissing a man and narrating that wow this is so incredibly different than kissing a girl eg comments about feeling the hard edges or masculine smell of a man.

Often times a lot of little things add up to make me feel like writing Steve as bi was never really considered properly

the dnd movie was good and effects where incredible and the shots and lighting where top notch and its awesome that so many people had a great time watching it however i felt every single character would have been a more interesting protagonist than chris pine

we don’t acknowledge enough how dee used to be a pageant winner when she was a kid and how much damage it did to her. she worked her ass off and got recognition for being pretty and talented at a young age and it was the only source of self esteem she could garner in a family that constantly berated and talked down to her. she sought after that external approval because it was the only way she could prove everyone around her wrong. her dream of being a performer didn’t come from a self-aggrandizing delusion— she genuinely showed a lot of potential when she was younger. but she went through an unflattering puberty and her spinal condition got worse and that natural talent she had as a kid plateaued way too early. the “former gifted kid” dilemma. she slowly lost the thing that promised her that she was good, but she was so desperate to keep holding onto it that she tried anyway. again and again and again no matter how much people made fun of her because it was always about proving them wrong. but after a while she couldn’t jump anymore without anticipating the way it feels when she hits the ground face first. self-sabotage became her way out, choosing to rather live in the fantasy of her own unrealized potential and blaming those around her for her lack of success, than having tried and crashed again. she’d rather buy lottery tickets over and over and never scratch off the numbers than to see that she lost. that self-sabotaging behavior bled into other aspects of her life too, from friendships to relationships to therapy. her own short lived success is what made her grow into embodying the cycle of failure.

. . . I swear there are so many moments in disco elysium where I just wished so bad to take the wheel in a conversation. Sometimes the dialogue options it gives you are no where close to enough.

For instance, no disco elysium I genuinely don’t think a quick “thank you” “don’t mention it” comes anywhere close to how I would react to hearing someone with only basic medical training stayed up pretty much 2 days straight to nurse me back to health after potentially life threatening injuries! Kim’s fucking exhausted! Look at him!

But nooooo we have a murder investigation to do so obviously I gotta jolt out of bed and go back to running around martinaise barely acknowledging I’m probably not dead solely because of his help!

Like, yes, it’s 100% in character for Kim to casually mention that and respond with basically “don’t mention it” but can I at least make a big deal about it?

I think all the companions are great and all but.

Why are their races so boring?

We've got 1 gith, 1 tiefling ... And the rest are either humans, elves, or half-elves.

Larian got all high and mighty about how the average player character is a human/half-elf and how "well we know not all the races are beauties but they have potential!" Yeah? Do they Larian? Why did you put every flavor of elf in and have THREE regular human men (no, Wyll's devil form doesn't count as a tiefling) then?

Oh were dwarves not sexy enough for you to make them fuckable, huh? Gnomes are just funny to be racist against? You gave us Barcus Wroot and didn't even let us smooch his bald little head?

For a game that prides itself on being so desperately horny, it's only desperately horny for the prettiest races, which you already admitted is boring. So what gives, huh?

The more I play BG3 the more I'm sad to hand so many Ws to fucking ... Dragon Age. They didn't let us fuck dwarves either, but at least we like ... had them. In our party. As fully developed characters.
