Gonna ask this to a few people that inspire me, but how do you take inspiration from things without feeling like whatever you make is just bad in comparison? Or like a downgraded version of the thing(s) that inspired you?

Oh gosh this is such an interesting question since, I dont think I really have feelings of thinking my version is bad? Or that I am just a copy?

I am honestly just grateful my work became as popular as it is in the first place haha- low expectations going in to begin with. That and, I am very aware my art style isnt as defined and polished as other peoples styles, but I have come to terms with this! And hey the improvement in my own artwork over the past year is a massive trip if you go back through some of my older stuff- I am improving, slowly.

I mean, 2AL started by complete accident, and was "inspired" from me wishing the Leos from OMO or MNMC would hug it out already- but if you were to compare 2AL to one of those, they are very different. Hell even comparing OMO and MNMC, same starting point, but still very different.

I think my only advice to other people trying to make an AU is to try and find some core theme/idea and work around that, rather than gather a bunch of little things from other sources you like into a big pile. Find some key message to start up a base with.

While I do like the smaller ways in which the changing ecology of the world was shown i wish soooooo bad that Saint had some sort of exclusive species that wasn’t a lizard variant. I’ve fiddled with designs for one myself but it feels like a great time to introduce some sort of encroaching mammal species as a suggestion that things have begun to spread from ‘outside’ their ranges rather than just straightforward adaptation & extinction. Like the fact that everything is still pretty close to its original form makes things feel... smaller than I intentional I think. Like it accidentally gives a sort of ‘bubble’ feeling to RW’s area rather than making it feel like a slice of a larger changing world when things change so massively but everything there is still kinda what was always there

Part of me is waiting for a reveal that the events of Gotham War are some variety of unreal and related to the whole Bruce Is Going Crazy thing (hallucination, dream sequence, alternate universe, AR simulation, whatever). Because while that would be fucking stupid and nonsensical it would still be better than the disrespect they're doing to literally everyone if it's all just real as presented.

How did no one notice what was happening in Gotham until they had it explained to them with everything short of a Powerpoint? Because they didn't actually exist until Bruce woke up.

Why does no one in this room full of literal geniuses ask a single fucking question on the practicality about this whole "rob the rich to feed the poor" plan? Because they aren't supposed to, for the plot.

Why does Bruce immediately win a fight against an entire room full of highly trained vigilantes, including a dude with actual superpowers and Cassandra Fucking Cain? Because he's supposed to, for the plot.

See, it all makes perfect sense! It's not a terrible story built on a foundation of fucking quicksand that stops making sense as soon as you spend more than 10 seconds thinking about it!

Thinking about my writing priorities for 2024. Shades is obviously at the top of the list, and I plan on hopefully getting my act together to finish up Journey to the Past. I was going to write a Tears of the Kingdom AU fic but… I think I’m scrapping the idea. It’s just not that well developed and is more like a retelling of totk but with just a few changes, and I ain’t about novelizations in the year of our lord 2024.

What I am into is How to Train Your Dragon, and I’m very much toying with the idea of writing a fic for that. I have the concept clearly laid out in my mind and the plot more or less figured out. All I need to do is actually write those notes out into something coherent. I think it’ll become a focus project alongside Shades once Journey to the Past is done.

Then of course, there’s the big looming fic over my head, Keys 2, otherwise known as One Sky, One Destiny. I can’t guarantee I’ll start writing it in 2024 but planning for it is still steadily progressing, and I plan to put more work into shaping it out throughout the year. So yeah, just an update/roadmap for me for the next year I guess. Everything is subject to change but for now, that’s the outlook.

For my current WIP (a sequel to a book that isn't even out yet), I have:

11 fully written scenes

And 18 starts of scenes that I just abandoned after between 19 and 300 words.

So, I'd say it's going pretty well
