Refrence sheet (aka an excuse to talk about details and scars)

all the details are under cut (tw for small self harm mention)

First just short. Yes she’s a lesbian, Idc that if btvs was made today they would’ve written her as bi, that’s not how it is, she’s written as a lesbian, she’s just comphet.

Secondly, I hc her as enby because well I want to, she likes using the trans flag too cause she thinks it’s pretty. (Tara’s a trans woman btw. And Dawn is transfeminine, a hc I can talk about a lot too if prompted. They are a family of trans lesbians)

And she goes by she/they/it with no special preferences cause I say so, tho I only used she in these rants for simplicity.

And yeah she's autistic but we all already knew that.

gonna go by detail by detail for these closeups

Chest scar: so personally I headcanon that Willow (without thinking) took Tara’s pain as she died. Partly because of how she describes being shot to Warren so- personally. And just cause historically she haven’t been the best at controlling her powers. So that combined with everything that happened during her Dark Willow arc combined and I guess manifested a scar. It partly represents just how shattered and broken her heart became when Tara died.

Stomach scar: pretty self explanatory, she got it from the Gnarl in Same Time, Same Place. Because I think when you heal something using nature-healthy magic it leaves a scar cause it’s really just a sped up version of the natural process. This is especially true for when Willow heals herself cause of guilt that is always in her head trying to convince her to not heal. Also just like- she had strips of her skin eaten, that’s bound to leave a scar. And just the whole episode is so great and everything about it is so important so I think she needs a reminder of it.

Thin scars: a few are scratches she’s gotten over the years but most are sh scars. There’s not much to elaborate with that for now, I just think it’s something she did/does.

Big forearm scars: these are from when she resurrected Buffy. She has 2 alike ones on her other forearm. Another headcanon I have is that when wounds are caused by like really dark magicks, like the ones Willow used, scars don’t tend to heal normally, so they took a lot longer to heal than normal wounds their size, and also left clearer scars. Also yknow more scars that work as reminders for her guilt.

Rings: she’s gotten them from a bunch of different people, I don’t have the specifics for that, but the one with green is one is Buffys (in Who Are You? Willow is wearing one of Buffys rings that she and Tara uses for the spell)

Braclets: there’s nothing special about the beige one but the blue one is one of those braided friendship braclets. Dawn made it for her.

Burn scar: it is what I just said. She got it in Gingerbread (she screams like “Buffy I’m on fire!” During it). Not only is Gingerbread one of my favrouite MOTW episodes but it’s really important in understanding Willows character because of her relationship with her mom. So I thought if I had the opportunity to give her a physical scar to remind her of the time her mom tried to kill her i just had to take it. In my personal headcanon of the show she walked with crutches in Helpless (since that only takes place one week after Gingerbread). (Also funfact, in my mlp au i haven’t posted here(if anyones interested send an ask) the burn caused chronic pain and she uses a pony-wheelchair)

Hair: her hair used to be fully the same mid ginger colour but after Dark Willow it was permanently darkened at her roots.

Eyes: her eyes used to be green but turned pink because of the Buffy resurrection spell. And this is very much partly cause I’m an artist who just wants to have fun with my design. But it’s also the complementary hue to the one I use for Buffys eyes. Plus to me when you resurrect someone your soul and essence is kinda torn apart cause you need to kinda go to the afterlife to get them back in a way. So yeah her physical body was put through trials but so was just her psyche and well soul i guess, and because of that her soul is weirdly connected to Buffys, which also was torn apart and put back together. So complimentary!!! (Buffy didn’t notice the the change in colour until their conversation on the curb in Gone, she thinks they’re pretty)

Scars under eyes: these are also partly cause of stylistic choice (to be fair all are). But my design of Dark Willow has veins under her eyes, like tears. So they left scars, scars that also in theory looks like tears.

Okay this AU DID rip hard like ngl. I wrote it back when I was deep in an urban fantasy phase so it was just this hodgepodge of stuff I loved. The magic system was part Dragon Age, part Dresden Files. The vamps were part Buffy, part VTMB.

The setup was that Myka was the Slayer, going to college in Univille. Artie was her watcher, Claudia was a young witch (The Willow, if you will) and Pete was the unpowered best friend/Xander.

Artie and MacPherson were like co-watchers for Carol and in the course of that work (I think it was some kind of heroic sacrifice or something) he gets turned into a vampire and Carol can't bring herself to stake him. Artie's white whale.

HG's deal is that she was the Slayer back in the 1800s when Christina gets killed bc HG's role has her in the cross fire. HG then goes off the deep end, finds the powerful vampire responsible, forces him to turn her and then eats him (nakedly, shamelessly, joyfully ripping off the Tremere clan from VTMB). Cue a reign of terror that lasts years before she abruptly goes silent. Instead of being bronzed, she enters torpor and stays like that til MacPherson wakes her up. She is, of course, the Angel of the AU. A little more morally ambiguous though.

It was supposed to proceed from there - HG meets Myka in a bookstore and they have a little meetcute. There's flirting and feelings before it's revealed that HG is the mythic vampire the council is freaking out about.

Ultimately the project died MOSTLY bc I couldn't quite figure out how to translate the s2 plot for total world destruction quite satisfyingly enough to this universe. And I think I lacked a little confidence wrt character voice. But god it was fun to write. Tragic, sexy vampire Helena lives rent free in my head forever as does Slayer Who Should Know Better Myka.

because Parks! I'm sure all the Parks people are saying snapshots, but for me it was, I think, your S3 Thanksgiving AU. Unless that wasn't you and I'm misremembering because holy fuck, it's been almost a decade. Anyway, I definitely am not misremembering how encouraging you were when I was a brand new fic writer. <3

Love it!! And love you! I've been getting so many warm fuzzies by the getting all these messages from long time followers/mutuals. And I love knowing so many of you are still around. (I've been having a blast catching up on everyone's lives and various fandom interests, btw).

I think you might be talking about Beautiful Mess which does end during Thanksgiving in what is (to me at least) true Ben and Leslie fashion. However if that is not the story you're thinking of please message me the story you are when you figure it out because I'm a sucker for fics around Thanksgiving and now I want to read it.

As for the last, I remember how lovely you were to talk to and there's nothing I love more than encouraging fic writers. I joined fandom when I was a teenager as part of the BtVS community and despite being obviously young and a truly terrible writer the people there were so incredibly welcoming and encouraging it sparked a life long passion that decades later is still an integral part of who I am. So you could pay me no greater compliment than to say I have succeeded in paying so of that forward to other fandom writers no matter where they are in their journey.

also dream is actually planning on turning tubbo into a vampire (in this au tubbo is the slayer yes it is another btvs au i didnt have enough of course) bc he thinks it'd be fucking awesome to have a slayer as a vampire and being the sire of said slayer? he's already incredibly powerful, he's about to be a god. but 1. tommy doesn't know tubbo is the slayer, is under the impression dream is just here to help with tommy's totally epic murder wilbur plan and 2. tommy very quickly LOVES tubbo and does very much want to turn him into a vampire but not to be a weapon or whatever he's just like Me and the Bo for all eternity what could be better?

but tommy's original plan is like "okay. im going to send wilbur fucked up dreams and make him think he's killing people. and then he's going to realize im actually killing the people. and then he's going to tell his friends and they're all going to come after me. and then im going to kill and eat them in front of him. and then he's going to be sooo upset. and then im going to kill him. badly." except wilbur after realizing it's tommy is like "erm... damn that's crazy ig some random vampire who i've never met before must be doing all this" and literally hires a guy to pretend to be doing all of this to wilbur. and tubbo kills that guy. and wilbur's like "haha awesome that's over!" and starts searching for tommy on his own and tommy is pissed the fuck off of course bc just completely ruins his plans. and so tommy was actually befriending tubbo already as a backup plan just in case wilbur did try to protect tommy for some asinine fucking reason.

and so tommy enters wilbur life as tubbo's "new friend" and wilbur is just like "aha. hello tubbo's new friend tommy who i don't know at all." and also quackity is tubbo's watcher who is very aware of all of wilbur + tommy's escapades in the past and is like "hey wilbur. so like i know you said you killed tommy." btw wilbur told them he killed tommy anyway "so i know you said you killed tommy. but did you? bc this guy is british and blonde and named tommy. just wondering." and wilbur's like "haha whaaat quackity you're crazy you're fucking mental actually i mean look at this guy is he even a real blonde i bet he bleaches it and also he walks in the sun have you ever seen a vampire do that wow you must be falling off" which actually wilbur is very confused about the whole. walking in the sun thing but turns out tommy has this ring given to him by dream that basically makes him invincible blah blah blah yeah.

but anyway tldr: tommy was going to kill tubbo for his plan bc wilbur literally only has two attachments in this world now and that is tubbo and quackity and so tommy was going to kill them both but now he's like "idk... tubbo's kind of poggers... it would probably fuck wilbur up to see his buddy a vampire right? yeah...." and he's still planning to kill quackity just bc well. hurt wilbur plus he's not tubbo so it won't hurt tommy (as much)

this fic is so funny tommy comes into town after not seeing wilbur for 50 years and goes “im going to kill everyone you love” and wilbur goes “okay. there are some carrots in the fridge if you want take some and calm yourself” and this is just their dynamic for like six months.

Exhibit C - Your honor they love each other! 3.05 (fuffy)

This is a pro-fuffy BTVS rewatch. (Happy Pride Month!) Exhibit C is S03E05, aka 3x05, aka 3.05 Homecoming. Long post.

1. Apparently Scott has not invited Buffy to the Homecoming dance despite their dating. WTF? He apparently didn’t feel comfortable expressing his interest in going, and claims he thought she would think it was corny. This is very strange. Anyway, they establish they will go and kiss. It’s borderline PG kissing y’all. *snort*

2. Buffy explains to Angel that things are different now. “And I'm involved with someone.” Wait, does this mean she realizes her budding non-straight feelings for Faith? *eh-eh buzzer* I’m sorry but no. Instead she proclaims her something for Scott: “His name is Scott. He's a nice, solid guy. He makes me happy...” A nice solid guy? OK, still a better comment on your SUPPOSED love interest than calling them a doofus (Riley in future S04), but a “nice, solid guy”? This is how you describe a good mechanic or plumber or weed guy, not your boo.

3. The show directly cuts to Scott breaking up with her. This made me cackle with glee. He says it’s because she is distracted all the time. Buffy was not expecting this, but admits that it’s true. Honestly I wish Scott had held on for one more episode. Imagine an AU where the vibe is more comedy. I swear we could have gotten a scene like this:

(inspo here) Imagine Buffy (Ilana) is talking to Scott (ooooh or Angel!) but then Faith (Abbi) needs to talk to her. (Yeah I know Abbi and Ilana are a platonic friendship but still.)

4a. Buffy is missing headshots for the yearbook, but Cordelia says she’ll go tell her. What is she doing instead of having her photo taken? She is training with Faith in the library. No that’s not a euphemism. This is the ONLY scene in this episode where they talk to each other. (This episode and specifically this scene is the creation of Fuffy for me. It’s seared into my brain, and yet - y’all it is literally less than a minute!) OK, so let's break it down... Buffy has an edge post-Scott-breakup, which Faith appreciates.

Faith-thee-slayer translates this excellently: “you’re hot when you’re angry. i’m angry all the time and seeing it in you validates my belief that we are the same person. i don’t want to hear about your boyfriends. you being single means more time with me.”

4b. Done with training, Buffy puts on a hoodie and Faith encourages her to move on. Buffy is now single and Faith decides to ask Buffy to go to the dance together. She’s shooting her shot y’all!! (haydenpanettieres has the build up to this moment.)

Spoiler alert: they are literally flirting! (summrsbuffy has photos of this) OK, here's the dialogue with my translation in italicized brackets. Faith starts:

You move on, and you party heavily, and you’ll be fine. I mean, you’re still going to that dance right?

Maybe (Buffy drinks her juice)

You got the tickets already. Why don’t we go together?

(Buffy puts the bottle down) I don't know about that. (she smiles)

[Buffyspeak translation: Whoa, that seems a little gay and I’m not gay. But uhm… say more.]

Come on. We’ll find a coupla studs, we’ll use ‘em and discard ‘em. (points at Buffy) That’s always fun. (drinks her own bottle of juice)

[Faithspeak translation: Uhm…. Nope not gay at all. What if we find some boy toys. That would make it less gay right? (points) You know you’ll have fun with me. (let me mirror you drinking your juice, see I’m just like you, nothing to worry about!)]

OK, I’m in. Not the stud-using part, though. (she raises her eyebrows) Or, probably not. (she smiles)

[Buffyspeak translation: OK, you made it less gay enough. We’ll just flirt with boys. How's my flirting BTW?]

Scene summary: When Buffy seems initially unsure about going to Homecoming with Faith, Faith re-centers men into the scenario. ("it's totally hetero dude") This gives Buffy the space to agree. And Buffy flirts back at Faith.

4c. OK, one other comment on this scene. There’s something going on with the framing right? The way Cordelia is watching them for a second before entering the library, but then she gets distracted and never goes in. She watches through the round window. Herinsectreflections lays it out for us. (technically aryaspork sets it up and herinsectreflections spikes it for the win here.) Gah!!

5. Buffy has one more interaction with Scott about her running for homecoming queen. She says that it’s just something to pass the time. Hmmmm, feels like this could be her commentary on dating him.

6. Bonus song thoughts: Background song during this Scott scene is also not-coincidental. (Fire Escape by Fastball): “I may not be the man you want me to be” = Scott can’t be her normal boring human boyfriend / can't be a good beard. “I can be myself” = Scott will be honest with himself. “How bout you?” = can Buffy be herself? Will Buffy realize her feelings for Faith? OK that last one could be a stretch.

7. Buffy walks to the limo, thinking that Faith is already inside, and no one else. Buffy is smiling so hard. Could this be a moment where she is happy to be going to the dance and perhaps going to be named Queen? Sure. But perhaps she is looking forward to seeing Faith. This is reinforced when she sees Cordelia instead and is disappointed. “What’s going on? Where’s Faith?” She doesn’t say “why are you here?” (emphasis on not liking Cordelia, since they are fighting). She says “Where’s Faith?” (where’s my da… I mean my gaaaaal pal)

8. Faith is shown at the dance with Willow and Oz, but they are total downers. She notices Scott with a girl and calls him a sleazebag. She’s wearing a formal dress and looks so different in formal wear than her regular wear. How we choose to present ourselves (body language, clothing, makeup) is important. Faith chooses her outfits and makeup and it’s a bit of battle armor for her. Part of her carefully put-together charming confident girl face. (I think her 3.03 Bronze pants are actually OOC, but we can talk more later about outfits.) She’s without some of her battle armor and perhaps that increases her insecurity?

9. Now Faith finds Scott and pretends to be a girl he dated, with some made up story about STD symptoms. I get the impulse to trash Scott in front of his new girl, but this is EXTREME. (Buffy didn’t ask her to do this, we don’t even see Buffy venting to Faith about getting dumped.) OK, bizarre-ness aside, check how Faith makes sure Scott’s date doesn’t miss what’s happening. The little shoulder tap - smile - “hi.”

This is brilliant - in its own twisted way. I can’t help but think this is motivated by Faith’s frustration that Buffy still hasn’t shown up. (elizadusku-archive has a good gifset) But the real question is, does Faith recognize her feelings for Buffy? Does she understand she like-likes Buffy? I would buy any of these arguments: that (A ) Faith doesn’t process her emotions well in general and is overly impulsive and takes it out on Scott. OR that (B ) Faith is still figuring out that she likes Buffy (and/or girls in general) and that frustration leads to this scene. People do strange things when the queer-ness leaks out of their overly stuffed brain. OR that (C ) Faith knows that she like-likes Buffy, is jealous of Scott for what he had, and angry at him for hurting Buffy, and so deliberately lashes out at him. My money is on C.

10. Faith has no more lines. Buffy and Cordelia return to Homecoming. But even formal-wear-Faith with no lines is a point in favor of Fuffy. She stayed! (blink and you’ll miss it tho) The entire dance, and she stayed. She invited Buffy to go to the dance with her, got a dress, did her hair up, hung out with Buffy’s joyless friends, had her scene with Scott, and she kept staying even after that! We don't see Faith scoping out any studs or anyone at all. She wanted to see her date / friend and maybe cheer on her win. Sadly we don't see Buffy talk to her once she arrives. (I like to think they caught up off-screen but that is inadmissible to the court since our exhibits are limited to the video on record.)

Imagine we had gotten to see the two of them at the Homecoming dance hanging out! *sigh* Also I just have to say, who drinks orange juice after they work out?? They are clearly meant for each other, haha.

Summary: They love each other rating: 2 out of 5. Some will see this as “just going to the dance with my gal pal.” I think Buffy’s actions (in reaction to the invite) and Faith’s actions (to Scott) show there is something more than just pure hetero-ness. It’s in the early stages your honor, but they love each other! Faith is definitely interested in Buffy as more than friends. After Scott dumps Buffy, Faith made her move. (Go Faith! Shooting your shot!) And Buffy accepted Faith’s invite to go to the dance together.

so i am a huge BtVS fan as well as a repo genetic opera fan. so this idea came from a very convoluted thought process btw.

i was listening to repo, at like midnight as one does and thought ah shit i love anthony stewart head. his voice is fucking phenomenal. like go listen to "let the monster rise" then go listen to "walk through the fire" from btvs season 6 and youll understand why i love his voice.

anyways as i was listening to "walk through the fire" i just thought of an au where marinette dies and through some convoluted way shes brought back, could be like jason where the universe undid her sacrifice or her friends brought her back using magic.

the lazarus pit does not bring back the dead yall. it only heals. and even then not really.

so shes brought back and feels lost. so something happens and shes reminiscing about her afterlife, she was at peace.

she doesnt know what to do now that shes come back.

then damian comes along and talks to her, sort of understanding her pain. he understands dying and then coming back and not knowing what to do afterwards

Let's assume some KH characters (which ones are your choice also I'm not setting limitations here) go hunting monsters together with the Scooby gang from BTVS (not tying this to any season btw, so build your Scooby Gang however you want or just pick your favorite season). How does it play out?

Oh my gosh... So, I think I’m going to use Sora, Donald, and Goofy for this to make things easier. And let’s just... pretend that this is an AU where the gang has never seen anything Disney related--or Disney doesn’t exist--so they aren’t like, “Donald and Goofy are those Disney characters!”

But no one is too weirded out by Donald and Goofy. They’ve seen stranger things, I mean. But they might think they’re demons or something... And sadly, SDG never really correct this idea because they have to protect the World Order.

Sora, of course, ends up showing off his Keyblade, and everyone thinks it’s pretty cool. Buffy in particular. So she and Sora probably bond over being chosen ones. And yes... there are probably some legends about the Keyblade that Giles finds.

I might keep the earliest Scooby Gang from this to keep it easier... but Willow would def be trying to learn spells from Donald.

And Goofy and Xander would probably bond about being the surprisingly wise comic relief.

Goofy and Oz might also somewhat bond, for that dog solidarity. XD

...I feel like Angel probably doesn’t interact with Sora, Donald, and Goofy that much, because he’s unsure of them and doing his aloof thing. But if he ever thinks that Buffy’s in danger from them for some reason, he’d be there in a heartbeat.

Cordy thinks that Donald and Goofy are really weird, and doesn’t want to be around them--and complains about it a lot--but she still ends up helping out, anyway. She also probably thinks that Sora having a Keyblade is suspicious... and it reminds her of Slayers a bit (because chosen one), and she maybe tries to insist that Buffy was lying to seem special, and there are a ton of other supernatural police than just her.

Anyway, everyone goes to fight demons together (except for Giles. Who is back at the library and staying with the books, in case they need to know anything from them. Sora being able to call him on the gummi phone is a great help).

Sora and Buffy are killing it, of course, and are a great team. Goofy also aids a lot.

Donald would be doing a lot more, if he wasn’t somewhat trying to train Willow--who’s spells are sort of a disaster at this point. And Donald often has to step in to keep them from getting out of hand--but it is what it is.

Cordelia is probably being bait again, to try and get the vampires to come out and attack her... but she and Xander just end up making out a lot, when he saves her from vampires a few times... leaving everyone uncomfortable. Especially Sora, who does’t know if he should be doing that kind of stuff with Kairi now or not.

Oz probably has some epic line, like, “You know... you don’t have to be sucking face all the time to prove you like each other. Look at me intently listening to Willow’s speeches all the time, while I remain laconic.”

And Sora chimes in and agrees with that, suddenly feeling better about not being so touchy-feely with Kairi.

And Buffy, who’s pretty much been forced into an asexual relationship with Angel at this point, might agree with Sora and say that if you really love someone, just being with them is enough... They’re probably getting distracted here.

And while everyone did a great job and killed most of the monsters, they probably missed someone or something that got away, that will now lead to an apocalypse. And now Sora and friends have to stay longer to help out. -shrugs- I don’t know.

* Read a really good Transformers fic?! Not that I find it strange that such things exist... Just that I don't tend to read outside my fandoms and required a lot of urging to do so. (VICTORY CONDITION by astolat, btw)

I've been hyperfixation on btvs for a while w/o posting about aus so.....

BTVS Daemon au:

(haven't thought about this one In a while btw so there's a lot of stuff I'm probably still changing but I wanted to have it out there)

Buffy - either a toller dog or a mountain lion. His name is atlas, meaning "to carry" since she carries the weight of the world on her teenage shoulders. He probably settled almost just after she became the slayer. Or when she came back after death No1 in s1. Whether he's a mountain lion or a toller dog, he's very puppy-like and loves cuddles. She thought he was gonna settle as a golden retriever before she became the slayer.

Willow - a phoenix that looks like just a raven or a blackbird normally. I know people would say phoenix for Buffy cause she's died twice but the idea of rebirth in the sense of change suit willow a lot better concidering how much she changes over the show. Plus the idea of a bird that looks completely normal and harmless but when she uses magic or is just angry and stuff turns into flames is really good and works perfectly for someone who is capable of (and has) killing(/killed) people. Their name is aspen cause her parents liked the tree theme. They settled the first time she did magic obviously. And she had for a while suspected they'd settle for a small bird before, her number one suspicion had been a mountain blue bird.

Xander - I’m thinking squirrel monkey or some other type of monkey, possibly like an emperor tamarin. Based on vibe yk. Her name is xenia, which means “stranger, guest, hospitality”, that wasn’t really the reason I picked it though I just mostly thought it would be funny if the whole reason Xander uses Xander as a nickname instead of Alex is cause he wanted to match with his daemon. I’m unsure when she would settle, all of them so far has settled pretty late, and for him probably the latest, I could see it being at the end of s6 because of the yellow crayon speech cause that you know represents his rare moments of being good pretty well. (Edit: remembered that's too late since he's not a teen anymore, it probably settled in late S3 or s4)

angel - a Dobermann dog cause they look exactly like him. Dark, bulky, big, terrifying but puppy, it’s perfect. Her name is Lilith cause … The bible, idk. And since I haven’t talked about it yet I’m gonna take the opportunity to talk about daemons in relation to vampires. They don’t just go poof when someone becomes a vampire even if that would be logical cause that just makes it too easy to notice vampires but they aren’t exactly there either. Since there’s no soul in the daemon they are basically just empty husks and aren’t able to talk or act on their own like normal daemons. They do tend to also give people the wig because of it since most can notice something is wrong even if they don’t know what. When a vampire regains their soul, their daemon returns to normal, though Lilith doesn’t speak much to anyone except angel either way

Tara - a cat, don’t know which breed, cause you know the witch of the witches, his name is Salem cause Tara’s mom is also a witch. He settled before Tara met willow or the other scoobies. He mainly talks to Tara, willow and later dawn.

Spike - this was a hard one for some reason, but I settled(hah) on bengal cat, will maybe change it. She settled before he became a vampire to be fair though. I just felt like their little faces fit his pathetic bottle blonde vibe. Her name is eris, which comes from the goddess of strife and Discord, plus i thought it was a pretty name. And cause of the whole no soul thing throughout most of the show she doesn’t have much personality for most of it, but more than Lilith when angel has no soul tho. She's gets all jumpy and fast-y when he gets his soul.

Giles - a barn owl, cause yknow, owls. Her name is Anne which means “intelligent”, not that that’s always true for Giles lmao but it represents both his character and relation with his dad pretty well. Also Anne is a pretty old-y name that works well with - pfft - Rupert.

Cordelia - a peacock, cause yknow… everything about her. His name is Cyril which means “master/lord” which suits her plus the name sounded fancy. He also doesn’t speak much and pretends to be all cold like Cordy but he’s a softie.

Anya - a coral snake, matched the demon and also just her vibe. Her name is Ymir cause Anyas Swedish and old. Nothing really changes with her when Anyas a demon.

faith - a panther, matches with Buffys mountain lion, his name is Thomas which means “twin”. Cause well she’s the secondary slayer, the copy, the clone, and she has yknow …some problems with being second place. I’m unsure when he would settle.

Dawn - a fawn, it rhymes :)), plus it suits her really well in symbolism and just vibe. Their name is kito which means “precious jewel”. both because Dawn is seen as precious and something that needs to be protected. And jewel because of the whole dehumanisation and that it’s something so materialistic with the whole key thing. No clue when they would settle.

@princesssarcastia, here are some of the things I’m reading right now! I took a quick look at your listed fandoms and tried to keep it to those, though I added a few really good ones from others.)

WIP I’m currently reading off the top of my head (various fandoms)

Lightsword by Esama (Star Wars/ff7) Cloud reincarnates as Obi-wan Kenobi. Composed of one word prompt sections. Very well done and I really can’t wait to see where the author goes with it. Gen so far (well, hinted Zack/Aerith?)

Survival is a Talent by Shanastoryteller (Harry Potter) Soulmate AU fic. This kind of AU is one I really enjoy when it’s done well (and so long as the fic isn’t one of those colorblind until you meet your soulmate ones those irritate me so much) and this is done well. It’s Harry/Draco, starting in second year. And the best part? There’s no bashing of either Ron or Hermione. I could have cried in relief when they weren’t distorted out of character. They stay Harry’s besties throughout everything. The issues of Harry and Draco realizing they’re soulmates is handled extremely well. Draco doesn’t just change, nor does Harry. They have to work at being friends, and as of the current chapters there’s only friendship. The endgame pairing is Harry/Draco, but Shanastoryteller has clearly remembered that the boys in question are 12/13 and there is no romance yet. Draco’s very real issues with the knowledge that his father is not a good person (for all that he clearly loves Draco) makes my heart ache for him. Draco loves his father, Lucius loves Draco, but Draco is coming to realize that he doesn’t want anyone to die, not even muggles or muggleborns.

Resident Project by Kryal (Resident Evil/Tatterdemalion Verse) The Tatterdemalion Verse is a sci-fi/horror AU of Bleach and Saiyuki created by Vathara, that I cannot rec enough, even to people who aren’t into either Bleach or Saiyuki. In my opinion, they read fairly well even if you don’t know who all the characters are, since it’s such an extreme AU from the original series’, and the Bleach fics are actually set way pre-series and feature few of the main cast (as they have not been born yet). A quick google of the names will get you general appearance, and you can read from there.

Kryal, author of The Dragon King's Temple, THE best Avatar/Stargate crossover, was apparently chatting with Vathara one day about how well the Resident Evil verse would mix with Tatterdemalion, and this fic was born. I may have screamed a little in joy when I saw the notification in my inbox. And I don’t even know more than the bare bones about Resident Evil. Fic is Gen, no pairings, people are too busy trying not to die for romance.

Friends Across Borders Series by MueraRashaye (Heralds of Valdemar) Dunno if you know this book series or not, but I’ll toss this in too. FAB is on it’s 10th story in the series (long series is long btw, currently over 300k) , and is honestly one of the best Valdemar fanfics I have ever read. The characters are OCs, but fully fleshed out and beautifully rendered. I had absolutely no problem getting into them, and had the odd but hilarious experience of idly wondering what Kir and Anur were up to during the canon book series the last time I read it, only to remember mid thought that the were OCs, not Mercedes Lackey’s characters. Ace and Aro characters!

Triumphant, The Dreamer by Shadowblayze (Harry Potter) This is a lovely OC reincarnated as a Harry Potter character fic. The character is Heather, a twin to Harry. EPIC worldbuilding and amazingly well done characters. No character bashing, but also pulls no punches regarding certain stupid moves made by canon characters. Gen so far.

Find Your Way By Moonlight by Blackkat (Naruto, Vampire AU) I usually don’t really go for AUs that take away the whole magic ninja aspect of Naruto, but damn this is a good story. Totally an exception to my usual preferences! 

It focuses on Hunter Kakashi and Vampire Obito, and there are a whole host of twisty vampire and other supernatural creature politics, and currently there are a lot of people enacting epic plans without checking to see if maybe anyone else is currently enacting their own epic plans, and it’s promising to be a glorious train-wreck of tangled up coup/rescue/assassination attempts. Very much not Gen. Main pairing is Kakashi/Obito, with a ton of crack pairings on the side.

Karmic Balance by Sanjuno (khr/Naruto) Epic reincarnation of kakashi and Obito. They think the mafia is adorable, but ultimately dumb as rocks. The mafia does not see them coming. Epic worldbuilding (there is a theme there. I do love my epic worldbuilding *G*) This story is excellently spun, manages to treat the khr world seriously danger wise, but still retain the humor rainbow colored fire mafioso deserve. Kakashi/Obito main pairing (they’re kinda scarily co-dependant) gen for everyone else so far.

Star-Queen by TheBetterAngelsOfOurNature (Guardians of the Galaxy) Pre-movie AU, what if Meredith Quill had been able to chase after Peter? There’s endgame Meredith/Yondu, but it’s very slow burn. I really love how this author is filling in Meredith’s personality, and fleshing out other characters that the movies never did. There are a whole host of transplanted comic characters, and OCs to fill voids, but they’re very well done. Updates are kinda sporadic now, since the author just moved to an area with no internet and only gets to town once or twice a month, but it’s worth the wait.

Damaged Defenders by Sherza (MCU) Incredibly long and plotty re-imagining of how things would have gone if Thor had noticed Loki’s eyes were the wrong color. Features multiple crossovers with other Marvel works. Canon relationships only, and little focus on those. This is primarily a ‘gather the forces in preparation for a major alien invasion’ fic.

Harnessing Starfire by Sherza (Star trek AOS) A fic that actually lets the Enterprise crew be the BAMF individuals they truly are. AU after the first movie. Spock Prime gets his Kirk back! Takes the characters canon backstories into account, so Jim was on Tarsus. Takes a good analytical look at what it really means for Vulcans that Vulcan was destroyed, and what it means for the Klingons to have had most of their fleet gutted by Nero, and what it means for the Romulans to have had a Romulan do all of these things, time traveling nutjpb or not. Pairing is endgame AOS!Spock/AOS!Jim and TOS!Spock/TOS!Jim. The is Spock/Uhura at the beginning, but they amicably end things. No bashing.

Weirdness is Genetic by Sherza (BtVS/Sentinel/Stargate) This is the rarest of rarities, a GEN sentinel fic. Features a sentinel/guide bond between Xander and Clone!Jack that is handled beautifully. Also a sekret!father fic, wherein Jim Ellison is Xander’s biological father. The three fandoms are meshed well, and there’s not bashing of characters. Fic is totally gen apart from some canon barely there pairings.

Jason Todd: The Not-So-Outlaw by GoAwayOlivia (DCU Batman) A lovely fic that features Jason coming back to Gotham after deciding to take a break from the Outlaws. There’s some excellent exploration of family dynamics in the bat clan, and of what being resurrected with the Lazerus Pit’s really does to someones mind. I really love the developing relationship between the now much saner Jason and his adopted siblings in this, plus GoAwayOlivia’s Alfred is fantastic. Jason does therapy through home renovation, it’s great. Genfic. (*blinks* Huh, and apparently this is complete now? I never got that notification!)

Spike×Buffy, Angel×Buffy, Riley×Buffy, or Faith×Buffy? Why?

This is the BEST question I’ve ever received especially because I have no idea.

It’s very hard for me to decide because each has its own appeal but has also a fuckton of flaws to weight on too.

Riley×Buffy is… Well. No one likes Riley, so it’s hard for their relationship to have any appeal at all. It could have been interesting to explore the idea of Buffy having a relationship with a regular Joe, but the crew kinda seemed like they ditched the idea and decided to give Riley some superpowers too, so he really doesn’t bring anything new to the table and it’s certainly the worst out of the four.

Spike×Buffy is… yikes. I know it’s a very popular ship and to be honest, I can totally understand why. Their dynamic is incredible, and by far the most developed. I think the fact that they came such a long way together before actually starting to develop feelings for each other plays a good role on why it’s so popular. But I, personally, just can’t get on board with a girl legit falling for a guy who tried to rape her. Yes, I know, soulless Spike =/= soulful Spike. But I don’t think it’s… I don’t wanna say realistic, more like, acceptable that someone would date someone who Idk has at least the face of their rapist. Besides, I think Spike loses a lot of his appeal when he starts falling for Buffy, and even more when he gets a soul. I really liked Spike as an antagonist, a chaotic neutral kinda guy, and without that I can’t really dig him anymore.

I like the idea of Angel×Buffy only in theory. I guess in a very specific setting, in one of them domestic AUs with minimum conflict and all. And I truly think Buffy will never love anyone as much as she loved Angel, but here’s the thing: In his own show, Angel is my second favorite character of the entire Buffyverse, losing only to Tara (oh rly). As Buffy’s lover, he’s literally my least favorite character of the Buffyverse - even more than Wesley, who, in the first terms, is my least favorite character of all. I can’t really dig a ship that completely harnesses my favorite character’s potential.

Then you have Faith×Buffy. That’s a ship with a wild potential. I really do believe Faith at some point had really strong feelings for Buffy, and it would be awesome to see something happening between them. My problem with it is mostly the same I have with Spuffy: the way Faith treated Buffy was Very yikes. I kinda overlooked it when I watched BtVS, but after watching Angel 01x19, it’s very hard not to feel like Buffy shouldn’t ever be with Faith.

I guess if I really have to choose I’ll go with Faith×Buffy because it’s the only one in which the other character doesn’t lose in development. But that’s only because it’s noncanon of course. I feel like if it was canon it would have the same problem as the other three.

(btw this is something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately. The wasted potential doesn’t happen only with Buffy’s lovers, but the rest of the core Scoobies’ as well. Jenny got killed for the sake of Giles’ angst, @lesbidar pointed out once how Anya’s relationships with other women were overshadowed by her relationship with Xander, and even considering I’m a huge Willow/Tara shipper, my favorite moments of Tara are mostly ones where Willow isn’t around and/or they’re taking that hiatus during season 6).

BtVS Episode, "Becoming, Part 2" AU Question: If Xander Harris had told the Slayer known as Buffy Summers about their other friend's plans on restoring Angelus' soul, what would result in the boy telling her what she wanted and needed to know?

(I love how you’ve framed this question, btw)

First of all, I think Xander delivering Willow’s message wouldn’t have necessarily translated into a different ending. Buffy might have had to kill Angel/us even knowing that Willow was trying to restore his soul. 

What I do think is that Buffy would’ve entered the battle in a different frame of mind. Some people argue that Xander wasn’t trying to be a jerk but he was actually trying to give Buffy the strength she needed to fight Angelus/her former boyfriend. I strongly disagree. I think Xander 100% chose not to deliver that message for purely selfish reasons, reasons that I sort of get. Angelus had killed Jenny and had just kidnapped and tortured Giles, so I understand why Xander wasn’t really rooting for Willow to succeed in performing the spell. Plus, Willow had tried once already and failed, so maybe Xander considered it didn’t really matter whether Buffy knew about it or not if it wasn’t going to work anyway. Regardless of whether his motives were valid or not, he ended up stripping Buffy away of a vital piece of information that might have made her enter the fight with a different mindset. 

We need to remember that Buffy has always found power in her emotions. And not in any kind of emotions; what drives her most of the times is her deep love for others. Now, to go into this fight, Buffy had to let go of her love of Angel because she needed to kill him. Xander’s message reinforced this mindset. She needed to forget she was fighting her former boyfriend and view him only as a target. It’s also important to remember that when Buffy arrived at Angelus’ crypt, he still hadn’t completed the ritual to awaken Acathla… What I’m trying to get at is that had Buffy known the possibility existed of Willow restoring Angel’s soul, she might have approached her opponent in a different way. Her emotions might have helped her stall Angelus or to drive him away from Acathla until the spell had been cast. She might have spent less time fighting his minions so that she could focus on getting him away from the statue, you know? 

EDIT: Plus, she would’ve been better emotionally equipped in the event of Angel getting his soul back mid-fight, as happened… Not knowing that Angel getting his soul back was actually something that could happen as they were fighting made everything so much more traumatic for Buffy, and that’s all on Xander. 

Of course, this is all highly hypothetical. There’s really no way to know, and there’s a big chance she might have ended up having to kill Angel/us all the same. But… (and this is, I think, the biggest way in which things might have turned out differently…)

Xander’s “kick his ass” had an underlying meaning, too. What Buffy got from that message is that neither Xander nor Willow cared about how difficult it was for her to be forced to fight and kill the person she loved. After Angel’s soul was restored and she had killed him, Buffy felt she couldn’t go to her friends for support and comfort because they wanted him dead and they cheered her on to kill him. How could they understand her pain? 

I think that had Xander delivered Willow’s true message, Buffy might have tried to reach out to the Scoobies after the battle because she would’ve understood her friends had her back and weren’t actively rooting for her to be forced to murder the man she loved. The fact that Willow was trying to restore Angel’s soul meant that she didn’t want Buffy to be in a position in which she had to kill the love of her life with her own hands, and more importantly, she wanted Buffy to have the love of her life back. 

Lacking the knowledge of Willow’s true message, Buffy found herself in a position in which she had no home, no place at school, and no sympathy from her friends regarding what she had gone through with Angel, and I think the last item on that list made all the difference. She truly felt there was no reason for her to stick around. 

Ultimately, even if knowing this hadn’t really changed anything in the slightest, Buffy was still entitled to know. 

TL;DR: forever bitter at Xander for not delivering Willow’s true message
