Imagine Sirius finding out about Jegulus through one of James' REVOLTINGLY sappy pet names because we all know that James is a mean little shit who thinks he's hilarious.

Like James only uses the pet names so he can irritate Regulus because 'James, I have a reputation to uphold that shall not be sallied by your foolish ludicrousity' and he finds it hilarious to watch Regulus scowl and grumpily swat at him whenever he says something gross like 'baby' 'my angel' 'angelface' 'honeybun' or my personal favourite 'babydoll'. It's just his sense of humour, he never uses normal nicknames anymore because the stupid ones are ingrained in his mind to an irreparable degree.

And it becomes such a habit that one time he just forgets that Sirius doesn't know and by that point, Regulus is so used to simply tuning it out in the hopes he'll eventually get bored and stop (he won't) that they don't realise for at least 20 seconds that James just walked into the brothers' flat and said 'Hi pads, haven't seen you all week! Hey babydoll, ooo, that really is a nice new jumper'

They both realise at the same time and it takes a further second for Sirius' face of morph into DISGUST. And it's not at the fact they're together but at the ABYSMAL name choice. Regulus is instantly fuming and desperately trying to explain that it's James being pathetic and making an idiotic joke but Sirius doesn't even buy it. He goes the rest of his life telling people about it and Regulus goes mad. James finds it so fucking funny but apologises for accidentally making it bigger than a joke between the two of them. He is eventually forgiven but he's banned from saying half of the silly names ever again.

“I do too.”

“You remember the exact day you fell in love with me?” Regulus ask James incredulously.

“I think I nearly know the exact minute I fell in love.” James tells him.

“Bollocks.” Regulus says and James just shrugs. “Alright. When?” Regulus challenges.

“1 September 1972. I’m going to say…” James thinks for a moment. “…about 11:08am, give or take five minutes.”

“Oh, shut up, you did not.” Regulus dismisses.

“I did.” James shrugs, but his expression is completely genuine. “I didn’t know what it was at the time. But I remember it. I felt it. And it never went away.” James says.

Regulus softens, but still looks at James skeptically. “What did you feel?” He whispers and James smiles.

“I had just met you, you scolded me for calling you Reggie, shook my hand and told me my hair was atrocious.” James says with a small chuckle. “And I remember thinking ‘what eleven-year-old shakes hands and uses the word atrocious?’ But then I felt it, while we were shaking hands my stomach did this little somersault. And I didn’t know what it was, I had never felt anything like that before and I didn’t know what to do, so…” James trails off, looking at Regulus.

“So, you laughed.” Regulus finishes.

“And you thought I was laughing at you.” James smiles softly.

“And I hated you for it.” Regulus says, with a little pout.

“Yup.” James says, popping the ‘p’, and they both chuckle. “But every time I saw you my stomach did that little somersault. It took me a few years to figure out what it meant, but it was always there.” James tells Regulus as he looks deep into his eyes. “It’s still there.”

Regulus is gazing back at James with so many emotions and trying his best to hold back the tears threatening to fall. He puts his hands on James’ cheeks and leans in so they’re only a breath apart.

“You are a sap, and I love you so much.” Regulus whispers sweetly and pulls James in for a kiss.

i love the headcanon that james runs warm regulus runs cold so they're perfect together BUT what if it's the other way around.

james is this big cuddly looking strong guy and he is constantly FREEZING. he's so touchy not just because he likes touch but because literally everybody is warmer than him. he grabs regulus or lily or mary or pandora or remus's hand (any of his friends. any of them) and they immediately jump bc his hand is so cold.

then there's regulus. he's tiny and frail and everyone is always telling him to bring a jacket because he'll freeze but he WON'T. he's out in the snow in a long-sleeved t-shirt and slacks and nothing else and he's FINE. he might even roll the sleeves up.

when jegulus gets together james gets even clingier than usual the second he realizes how warm regulus is. people tell reg to bring a jacket when he goes out in the cold and he brings one for james. all of his hoodies are oversized b/c gender dysphoria (me too man, me too) and james steals them because they fit him perfectly.
