such a huge fan of whatever the hell syril and dedra have going on right now in andor. syril is such a freak and dedra is just chill with it? protective over it? kinda into it? they are the cringest freakest losers the galaxy has ever seen. he spent last season stalking and obsessing over her and now they live together. he buys groceries and she pets his face. he face plants on her bed and she goes Awwwww. and he is still so awkward but she is just as awkward? obsessed with the shot of them just standing silently in the living room not looking at each other waiting for syril's mother to show up. they are like two strange fascist sunflowers growing beautifully side by side. not to mention syril still being religious about his corporate 9-5 while dedra gets put on an intragalactic propaganda campaign. but it is also quite sweet in a way. syril gets overstimulated at the family function and has to go to the other room to have a moment and his mother tells dedra Isn't he just so strange? surely you'll easily make him less strange. and then dedra says I like him so strange Kill yourself. what a lovely family.

End-of-Splatoon thoughts.

Thinking about how since the very start, Splatoon has had a feature where players can draw and post artwork and spot them as graffiti on walls or billboards. Or how the weapons have always been paint brushes and rollers and ballpoint pens. Since its inception, Splatoon has been dedicated to engaging its players with the act of creation and creative expression, showing them how their art can build communities and (literally) change the world.

Thinking about finding golden human-made music discs buried underground for thousands of years, and a grand finale music festival. About the Voyager Golden Records. About those human handprints etched into concrete in Alterna. Did those human artists know it would end like this? First a fiery death and then, eventually, a worldwide celebration of music to represent our shared past, present, and future. Did they know that their songs, insignificant in the face of extinction, would one day become the solution that will save the next dominant life-form from the same fate?

Thinking about how eerily similar the Octarian domes are to Alterna. About how close Inklings and Octolings were to repeating the same mistakes as humans. But their doomed fates were undone not by some miracle technology or military power or a rocket, but by music.

Thinking about how humans wiped themselves out with war, and our parting gifts were liquid crystals that somehow paired with the DNA of primeval inklings and somehow infused them with our memories and culture and a Song. And 12,000 years in the future, that same Song will end a war.

Thinking about how art and music and punk culture and rock & roll and friendly competition and petty arguments and water guns aren’t uniquely human concepts, but the fundamental qualities of intelligent life. An inheritable spirit that can cross evolutionary bounds.

Thinking about the theme of Splatoon, that art and music and fun will not die with the human race. That every piece of art we create is a seed we sow for future generations to reap. Thinking about how Splatoon says that the essence of humanity –– the thing that will outlive us –– isn't war or prejudice or destruction or greed, it's a song.

thinking about how the extra area added on to a pacifist run of undertale, the true lab, is about alphys's past mistakes. how it ends with the story reaffirming that, despite the pain she's caused, the thing that matters is that she has now made the choice to do the right thing. she's still worthy of her friends' love.

thinking about how undertale doesn't expect the player to get a pacifist ending for the first time. how it's more likely than not that the player will kill toriel the first time they battle her, how lots of players don't initially figure out how to end undyne's fight without killing her, etc. what it expects — not even expects, really, but hopes — is that the player, if they care enough, will use their canonically acknowledged power over time to make up for those mistakes.

no matter how many neutral runs a player has done before committing to the pacifist run, the thing that matters to the characters, to the story, is that you've chosen, now, to do the right thing.

compared to alphys, the player honestly gets off lightly, in that you're the only one (other than flowey) who really remembers any harm you might have caused. and any direct guilting the game could have done about it is long past at this point. instead, as undertale often does, it makes its point via parallels: alphys caused harm, and she knows it. she has committed to being better. in doing so, she has unlocked for herself a better ending to her story. and she deserves it. she's forgiven.

those structural narrative parallels are all over undertale, if you know where to look. and that's one of the things that makes it so fuckin' good.

critical engagement and sincerity have not DISAPPEARED or anything but i do think the rise n dominance of short-form content has shifted the way we communicate and how we interact w art and media..the algorithm pushes n rewards a certain way of speaking and thinking, aka bite-sized and accessible. and if talking from your rolodex of go-to phrases or being braindead is the thing that keeps you in this positive feedback loop, then why stop. youre conditioned to not be earnest, or strange or difficult or longer than 280 characters. youll get thousands of likes for it. also im not against a good meme or anything honestly i think memes are like a connective tissue in internet culture and i actually think thats a beautiful thing.. but its when all your posts , thoughts , content are catered for an audience or popularity.. i feel like people become out of touch with their personal reactions or actual complex and nuanced feelings and discouraged from expressing them. its sad!

Be careful what you wish for because you just might get it. Make sure you have back up plans for “just in case” situations/ predicaments. The example that I’m getting is, you know how people wish for money/ financial stability & they get it But not in a way that they expect?

Like they get into an accident but then they get a huge settlement. Yea, it’s giving that so be mindful of what you’re asking for and make sure you’re clear with your intentions for not only for yourself but for others as well.

i think quite a few people actually missed what the original midnight episode of dr who was about! the creature made everyone turn their backs on each other. this was the first interaction it had with any kind of life, and the message it learned was that power to one comes when people are divided. the first time it met the Doctor, the lesson it came away with was that the way to gain power is by making others turn on each other. the people become monsters, and do the work for you. it became what it is precisely because of what they did to each other, and the original episode was intended to highlight exactly this concept. also, likely why the doctor was so incredibly haunted by it originally. he's seen the best and the worst of the universe, and yet, life doesn't change.
