Season 2 episode 2 is almost nothing but misery and anguish #Helena by Nickle Creek does not quite fit the comic's vibe but it is absolutely a Xue Yang song so I linked it.#The change from “Helena don't walk away...(gentle)” to “HELENA. DON'T WALK AWAY (threat)” is fantastic.#And “Don't waste your pretty sympathy - I'll always be just fine”. Xue Yang core.#Okay now for the real meat. Disclaimer first: *I really like XY.* I think he's a great character. I think his actions consistently-#come from a place of deep trauma. While his reactions and actions put him in a villainous role he is still human about his hurt #and what I'm about to say is NOT intended to be a statement of causality or villianize a group of misunderstood people.#So with that said...Man oh man does Xue Yang have a lot of BPD traits. More that just 'character who is chronically manipulative'.#The impulsivity and emotional reactions and seeking stability makes him feel like he needs that control. What other choice is there?#The part that really gets me is how he *wants* to be safe and happy. But his past experiences tell him how thats impossible #He's the kind of person who goes 'if you don't like me then you better hate me for something substantial". "the Gabe and Sally dynamic in the show is abusive" and "the way they've portrayed Gabe in the show is distinctly different from his book counterpart and fans can criticize that" are two discussions that can coexist

#I understand that this is hard topic to navigate #but me saying that /they've changed Gabe and that's consequently altered the dynamic he has with Sally in way I don't like/#is NOT me saying I don't think what they've portrayed onscreen is non-abusive #or that I WANT to see him abuse her???#its just the guy in the show while clearly controlling and abusive (emotionally and financially so far)#...I don't believe he's the guy who's presence was so horrid and disgusting MONSTERS avoided him #I wouldn't call him /Smelly/#in the book his abuse (all forms) is much more overt #(and just to be painstakingly clear: abuse doesn't have to be overt to be abuse)#but the guy in the show does not have the same presence as the guy in the book #book Gabe is menacing #he growls and he threatens and both Sally and Percy have developed very specific responses to deal with it #I've seen one take saying that people can't recognize the abuse in the show because its not physical (yet?)#but even disregarding the physical abuse entirely #if you compare the book scene and TV show scene of Percy arriving home and he and Sally readying for Montauk #there is a pretty stark difference in tone #and in how both Sally and Percy interact with Gabe #in the book Sally goes out of her way to avoid /provoking/ Gabe and asks Percy to do the same until they can leave for Montauk #and Gabe is just itching for any excuse to keep them home #and imo if Book Sally had said the things that show Sally did to Gabe #Gabe wouldn't have let them gone!#and again im not saying that the show's depiction is nonabusive #or unrealistic #im saying its simply /different/ than the book #and im upset that it doesn't feel like dynamic depicted the book #and no book sally is no simpering wilting flower #but she's also not what they depicted in the show either #pjo adaptation #sally jackson #pjo

i can't with all these "the show is highlighting tommy's jealousy, they're planting seeds that it will cause problems" takes like bffr. he mentioned being envious over the 118's dynamic twice, sure, but in what world (literally how?) would that cause a relationship problem? do yall expect him to be in cahoots with gerrard behind their back and murder buck to take over his life or something?? like even with the hyperbole aside, i genuinely cannot see how they can turn this into relationship drama without going against everything they showed us with tommy so far

been rewatching a pretty good series

#station eleven #y'know that feeling when your understanding of a piece of art grows and changes with your understanding of yourself and the world. yeag #when youre slow to understand the key themes of this show but then they click the entire work seems to open up to #you and reveals 10000 hidden blades that all stab you at once every second of every scene #the show made me cry about a hundred different things and it was fantastic to analyze but i always felt i was missing something #i got it in the end. i just needed to grow a bit more before i could put words to it #and the show helped #literally miranda manifesting dr eleven as a tool that helps the ppl in the show reconcile with themselves #handshake emoji #station eleven the show as a tool to help me reconcile with myself #god alive this show is good. please someone talk to me about it have a document full of half deranged thematic+symbolic analysis and sobbin

A big part of the Haikyuu rewatch is watching the characters interact and worrying that I fandomized their relationships too much in my head, particularly with the Karasuno first years because Hinata and Kags keep Yamaguchi and Tsukishima at arm’s length for so long. But then I remember. Oh wait the squad is literally Hinata’s phone background by the end of the story. You don’t put a picture of just some dudes in your after school club as your phone background.

#ane discovers character development takes time who wouldve thought #personally I think wthe change happens when Yachi and Tsuki start tutoring them #It’s around the time that there’s a shift in their bickering so that it’s more. ‘familial’ isnt the term I’m looking for but like #the kind of razzing you can only do with someone you know #Tsukishima for example starts bringing up specific things they studied together to dunk on Kageyama not remembering any of it #And another subtle thing I noticed- cause again I started going like ? did I fandomize my entire perception of Tadashi too much?#cause for the first season he doesn’t interact with ANYONE but Tsuki. Like practically not at all except to brag about Tsuki to others #But I have a sneaking suspicion that this starts to change around the time that he starts getting on the court more often as a pinch server #Probably because it gives him more courage #Cause I remember him having a lot to say in the Shiratorizawa match #and I remember him getting along with Yachi! So like I’m keeping an eye out for those changes #haikyuu!!#Also my favorite part about rewatching Haikyuu is how the reveal of Kag’s backstory really does affect. Your entire perception of him #Like I know its probably cause he’s my fav but I always feel so frustrated when people assume the worst of him and so sad that even Oikawa-#who knew him back when he was a very happy and shy kid- doesn’t even question why his personality had such a sudden shift #but then I realize that the only reason I’m so aware of these changed is because Kageyama has ‘opened up to me’ as an audience member befor #Furudate waited hundreds off chapters to tell us that he’s been grieving a loved onesince a little before the very first scene of the manga #So that it would feel like we earned it #Idk how to explain it like when you meet someone who’s hurting it takes a lot of effort and patience for them to tell you why #in the same way bc we stuck by the story for so long and watching Kageyama learn to be more open #we got the privilege of learning why he was closed off in the same place #but Kageyama didnt give anyone at his old school the chance to stick around- not Kindaichi or Kunimi or anyone #So it makes total sense #kageyama tobio #hinata shouyou #yamaguchi tadashi #tsukishima kei #yachi hitoka #karasuno first years #my post
