In my mind, David Burke Watson is Boyfriend!Watson while Edward Hardwicke is Husband!Watson. I (and Holmes) love him very much.

David Burke, to me, matched the energy and theatricality of Jeremy Brett in those early episodes with his equally soothing voice and facial expressions. His Watson feels like a great friend and companion to have on adventures.

Their easy banter, collaborative deductions (that feel like a fun game between them), and Watson's awe of Holmes' abilities work well for establishing the type of partnership and relationship they have at the start of the show. It's a very fun dynamic that caught my attention years ago and brought me back recently during a bout of nostalgia and need for a good mood booster. I admit I watch clips and compilations of these two a lot for this reason.

And then Edward Hardwicke really impressed me throughout his run because he seems like a natural progression of Watson post-hiatus: more seasoned, subdued, and calm but also aware of being perpetually put upon by Holmes' habits. He's overjoyed the man is back so he can resume his place by his side but he also has his practice and routines that his friend disrupts at any given moment.

Hardwicke seems like a more natural actor, he just so believably embodies Watson as the loyal chronicler, dependable companion, and caring doctor he is, especially in his chemistry with Brett.

They feel so comfortable and settled down with each other, and as domestic as can be for two Victorian men who solve mysteries. This time around in my rewatch, I'm finding his portayal a source of comfort.

I'm just so in my feelings when it comes to Holmes and Watson lately. *dreamily sighs*

the x-men movie writers overall messed up when it came to writing the rest of the x-men, they really fumbled i mean...how tf do you bag a cast like that, YOU GOT HALLE FUCKING BERRY IN YOUR CAST and you mess up the writing that bad and then you go and cut many scenes that would have shown the bond between the characters??

storm and jean weren't just friends those two are like a 1+1 package and we were robbed, probably the most genuine and cutest friendship ever :((

i feel like at least halle showed a bit more of how sweet storm is even though her character was immensely watered down, while the writers just had jean be another girl in a love triangle which is embarrassing bc it's like this people were alergic to writing female characters but we can't expect much from "superhero movies" from the 2000's...

Curt and Owen deserve a Cinderella type story

Let Owen have a Cinderella story god damn it!!! Instead of losing a shoe he loses some gun he brought, and Curt goes on a journey to find him and bring it back to him and at the same time there's a shit ton of gay pining from the both of them as they keep thinking about each other and Owen keeps running from Curt, one step ahead of him, while Curt's going after him, trying to find him and bring him back to him. They spend weeks losing their minds over it because Owen does like Curt and enjoys being around him but isn't letting himself be with him because that means he needs to let his guard down for someone, meanwhile Curt's just trying to understand him and how they could make something work, even when he himself has no idea how he's supposed to feel about Owen.

Sorry they just deserve to play an agonizing game of cat and mouse while they try and get together but never let themselves get too close

Thinking about HSY today

Some people might say Two-Face can be scary because of his facial deformities. Personally? Unless they're really, really messed up (like the ones in the nolan movies) then i don't tend to mind them. He looks so bizarre that sometimes the fear doesn't compute. There's something about a man wearing colour coordinated fashion and having colour coordinated hideouts based around his disfigurement that helps lend some levity to the situation.

No, I honestly think Two-Face could (and could is the key word here) actually be scarier without his scars and burns. Like in the Telltale Games. Sure the version of events where Harvey gets half his face burned off is sad and freaky, but it moves from 1 to 100 very fast. The version of Harvey whose face got saved from damage (but who was still drugged and mentally messed up) actually has the more messed up story. Because his pain and psychological damage comes slower. It starts with an obsession with order. Soon it leads to armed guards in the street and to martial law in the city.

Two Face with the burned face has a story about anger and vengeance. Two Face without scars has a story about paranoia and order. His fear of being attacked again leads him to become a dictator in all but name, a man obsessed with keeping order by forced coercion. Either way, he's gonna need an extensive amount of therapy. But the paranoia feels like the harder problem to cure, honestly. It's a deeper issue than anger. It's a fear of danger around every corner; an obsession with being the first to strike (before someone strikes him).
