That the village they were both born in isn't his home but it is Naruto's. That Naruto loves it and wants to belong to it and is actually starting to. And Sasuke realizes how far he is from this world that Naruto is living in because Naruto was born with nothing but is getting everything and he expects it to be the same for Sasuke too. He expects it to be the same for everyone. That's how it was for him. And he tells Sasuke so. And it ruins Sasuke because he realizes that if he stayed he would be ripped apart entirely by Naruto's world view, that whatever love Naruto was giving him was only burning him and suffocating him.

So he walks away. because the love Naruto can give him is not the love that will heal him or help him. It's the kind of love that will kill him.

Link is peak older brother energy I feel that is essential to his character. you're absolutely correct that link is very much Older Brother, but because pulling the master sword made him mature too fast and bear the burdens of the world as its adolescent savior, he's an Eldest Daughter by default (more under the keep-reading because i failed again in making this short)

i honestly like both ideas of link's little sister either adoring him and looking up to him like a role model, or despising him and spitting at him every time they saw each other, but it would depend a lot on whether or not link's parents splitting was amicable or not. my original headcanon kind of implied that after link's parents split, they never saw each other ever again because link and his dad were at hyrule castle and link's mother and sister stayed in hateno, but it would be cool if link's parents shared custody and had each kid go travel to see their other parent and sibling lol. i think that link would definitely write letters to his mother and sister, even if they resented him.

now revali, my poor dear sweet revali... i've seen a couple fics here and there that mention revali's family situation, but i personally am in favor of the idea that revali was either abandoned or orphaned as a fledgling, and was raised by the elder and the whole of rito village in general. since nintendo gives us no indication of revali's family but implies that revali is around the same age as link, zelda, and mipha as per urbosa's diary, there's a lot of potential and flexibility with this idea.

if revali was abandoned, i think the rito would shun his parents because i like the idea that family and bonds are very important in their culture, and what kind of parents would abandon their baby like that? who even knows why revali's parents would do that but i think there are still no indications of revali's family in age of calamity, so perhaps they fled the village when revali was born and abandoned his egg in the nest. fuck them fr! this could be a good explanation for his motivation as to why he pushes himself so hard to be better as per the DLC champion revali's song memory. his parents didn't want him enough to keep him and even fled the entire village so that they wouldn't be held responsible to care for him anymore, and that stings. it would be a deep-seated insecurity for revali, a sense of betrayal, loss, and desperation to be loved, to be wanted by someone. so he trains to be better, he pushes himself until he collapses, because if his parents didn't want him as he was, then maybe no one else will.

now if revali was orphaned, i would assume that both his parents were revered, formidable warriors who died in battle but most importantly, that they did love and want revali. revali might have already been hatched at this time and present at his parents' funerals, which is actually the saddest thing ever. a tiny orphaned little hatchling who being the one to send his parents off, to honor them for dying a warrior's death. it might be a good origin story and another really good motivation behind revali's character, why he pushes himself so hard to be better. do you think baby revali thought it was his fault that his parents died in battle, that he wasn't strong enough to protect them and that's why he needs to be the strongest warrior there ever was among the rito to make sure he can protect the people he cares and loves for the most? now imagine this version of revali cradling a dying link in his arms lmao

both are good backgrounds for revali but i think at the moment i'm leaning towards the orphaned storyline. it's only thing to be unloved and unwanted, but to know you were loved and wanted but to lose those people so soon is incredibly tragic. to know those people for a short window of time and lose them so soon must tear revali apart everyday. do you think he sits alone in the flight range in the quiet of the night after hours of training, trying desperately to remember his father and mother's faces, how they must have felt to see their son hatch, how they thought they would return home safely to him that day? he's loved and respected by the village and the elder treats him as their own, but it's not the same as knowing you had a mother and father who wanted you as their own too. he's honestly also the village's biggest tragedy. i'm imagining him as a fledgling, fresh out of the funeral, walking past some rito mothers cooking meals for their kids or some shit, openly talking about how tragic it was to lose some of their best warriors and to leave behind a son in their wake. it's too much for baby revali and he runs down the platforms of rito village and hides in a tree in one of the island spires connecting the village to the mainland, crying his eyes out.

My favorite Naruto Canon Lore / My Theory is that........... The Ninja Continent/Five Lands have been at war so long that their basically the barbarians of the planet.

There are numerous other peoples depicted outside the five elemental nations that are exceptionally more advanced.

The land of snow is close enough to the elemental nations to actually be depicted in Naruto maps, and even they have better technology (such as rail trains and steam power and chakra-powered electronics). The land of Sky had severely advanced flying power after returning from an absence in the nations. There’s an entire continent that may be themed medieval but has advanced technology compared to the Nations. Crescent Moon Island, which is close enough to the elemental nations to sometimes be depicted, is a wealthy trading nation and has swaths of advancements such as purely leisure/recreational hand held video games.

Following the end of Shippuden, when the elemental nations find peace and start to de-militarilize a bit? sudden massive techno boom. TVs, phones, casual electronics everywhere. Deadass one-hundred-percent, it’s because these things already existed but Konoha like the other elemental nations just couldn't fucking afford to invest in or import them because they were too focused on military shit and wars.

There’s even like, hints through out the show about this being the situation. In early-Naruto, Team 7 has radio-based communicators. They are, however, only used for a single low-risk mission that doesn't leave safe territory (finding the cat D-rank). The implication is that electronics of hand held size exist, but were too valuable to dole out for situations where they might go missing or be damaged. And furthermore, that Konhoha was only willing to invest in them because they were tactfully advantageous for their military. There’s other things that are suspiciously high-tech for a feudal-daimyo-having elemental nation. Looking directly at Orochimaru specifically, who’s labs are particularly technical at times (of course Orochimaru would see reasons to import things so important to his research), or high-level communications devices used used by some elite high rankers. Even highly-advanced electronic, digital cameras that are clearly dedicated to extremely specific purposes like only being used in the Academy or mobile laptop-like computers exclusively shown in the hands of Medical staff in konoha (who is noted for having the best medical situation of the five countries and would thus have a higher medical budget, enough to important a sparse few of the essential technologies invented outside the shinobi world).

Part of me is a little obsessed with Amegakure for this reason, because Nagato looked at his war-torn village and then Konan looked at the countries beyond the Ninja World and they said “fuck it, lets build skyscrapers.”

i think what i still prefer about naruto compared to most other super popular shounen and why it stuck with me is that its villains are human. they aren't supernatural beings with incomprehensible evil motives and aims! their reasoning can be traced to history and the systemic failures of the shinobi world. kishimoto is a poor plotter & eventually chickened out bc it got too complicated, but i still think in its essence naruto felt more impactful bc of this - most of the bad stuff that happens is directly caused by structural injustice and the inherently violent nature of shinobi society. while the tailed beasts, alien and dangerous, are arguably also villains, the tragedy they cause results more often than not from humans using their power for destruction. this is ultimately why the war arc and the ending with the deus ex machina -esque introduction of zetsu and kaguya is so disappointing; the series really did have something to say in its conception about the cycles of violence, the various consequences of war, and what society organized around army/police states results in, but all this is thrown out the window in favor of hand-wavey explanations excusing the characters' actions with fate and divine plans. in this essay

they're so freaking absurd. like hashirama is actively excited to see madara again. despite the fact that madara is currently waging war on literally everybody.

The best part about hashimada by far is that at no point during Naruto were they ever not incredibly freakishly obsessed with each other.

Hashirama kills madara in the newly created valley of the death and literally gets humongous matching statues of themselves to honour them.

Madara fuses Hashirama’s flesh into him to sustain his life, you can argue it’s a practical decision but the symbolism of his life being prolonged through consuming Hashirama’s DNA shows how they are constantly connected, even when seemingly separated .

4th war hashimada fighting it out and madara being genuinely excited to see hashirama and refusing to fight until hashirama comes to him… Your honour they are NOT NORMALLL OMFGGGG

But! I'm always a fan of stuff going against its nature, especially in this case! Etho states he's not a runner yet protects his allies rather fiercely even in total silence. Eg refusing to kill Cleo in SL or to give away Tango's location during the LimL manhunt, same for Grian in SL. He was a bit flaky in 3L I think? And he only started to have genuine care for allies in LL with Bdubs? Though he is still very much a runner in many cases like during the LL Wither fight. Research also strongly suggests that most if not all raptors were solitary hunters, and the way I see Etho (through my shamefully limited watchtime of his POVs...) he feels a lot like someone who ultimately only trusts himself at the start even if he's pleasant and allying with others, and doesn't seem to think he can carry his weight in groups though he doesn't voice this a lot. That's just how Etho is, very composed, but it feels like there's an insecurity there, showcased especially in SL but again I haven't seen almost any of his POVs in full so maybe I'm talking out of my ass!! Sorry ethogirls I'm only a sidegig ethogirl myself... But yeah tldr to me he gives off the vibe of an otherwise solitary animal struggling to find 100% sure footing in a pack. In whichever ways he does go against his nature, its not usually made a show of

At the mention of a raptor, a lot of people will probably think of the glamourized Jurassic Park Velociraptors. But those awesome guys from the movies are actually the size of chickens. In general though, dinosaurs tend to be a bit.. exaggerated in media, despite how inherently fascinating they already are. And I think it fits Etho because we all know how the Lifers seem to fear and mancrush on him when he's just some dork with perfect capability to become pathetic at a moment's notice. Still, he's a clearly skilled player and still respected without question Etho's not some killer machine like some people make dinosaurs out to be. He's just a fellow creature fulfilling his role in the ecosystem 👍
