to be more meta-writing about it for a moment: the thing about benton fraser that is so so important to how i read him is that he doesn't come at things in a way that is considered "normal" by people around him and that this isn't simply a top layer of being that contains a desire for normalisation

it's a balancing act, because there is a loneliness that comes with not being normative and fraser does experience people thinking he's weird or treating him more like an object than a person, but i also don't think he's longing to be more like other people or necessarily for what other people have. it's more that people need to be kinder towards the sort of person he already is

i enjoy him as someone who's looking for his own language in a sea of messaging telling him what he "should" want and trying to sift through all of this relatively new input. it was much easier when he was way up north doing his own thing, but now there are all kinds of interpersonal relationships to navigate for the first time

so for example, i like to hc him as touch-starved because he's a very sensory person who hasn't been close enough with anyone to be touched by (smthsmth except for nearly dying with victoria), but i think it'd manifest in things like enjoying head-scritches or hands on the back of his neck keeping him grounded more than, say, hugging. hugging is a ritual that indicates closeness and i don't think he'd mind engaging in that but i imagine him as doing it far more intellectually and also enjoying it more because it gives him the chance to smell people he likes smelling -- which, on that, i think smell is a big thing for him, considering how much it comes up on the show and that's way more how he identifies people he likes to be around (anything written about him describing how people smell? -- also, see him asking meg what perfume she's wearing)

(on the note of touch and being a freak, got a whole series of hcs related to fraser and sex but let's save that for another time -- bottom line, it simply cannot be a normative approach either)

in terms of being close to people, i also like to see this along the lines of a mix of the way people react to him, but also a selectiveness on his part. not that he dislikes people, he should - if anything - allow more dislike into his sweet sweet heart, but he doesn't go out searching for relationships that are often considered expected of him, whether it be romantic or platonic, and again, i imagine if he'd never had call to move, he'd have lived his life with a peacefulness about his situation, albeit with (again) the loneliness that comes from being othered

basically: when put in situations that are considered "normal trajectories for people" i need him to be a freak about it. can't simply have him yearning for the trappings of an ordinary life and being your average joe, need him to be left-field about all the things that people take for granted are just how you are as a person

Ok hear me out: Narilamb but they're both aroace and in a qpr.

I've been rolling around in my head for like a long long time this idea that Narinder and Lambert could both be aroace and (after like. A couple of centuries or so) end up in this like very comfortable very close relationship that neither of them define as anything specific other than calling it a "companionship". But on the other hand most of the cult thinks that they're dating in secret or something despite the fact that both of them have said they don't take lovers, because they are clearly very tight but maybe not super openly so, so maybe the cultists thing they're being secretive and hiding something or something like that. Idk but my aroace brain loves thinking about extremely close (mostly) platonic relationships and for some reason my brain decided hmm. I'm going to take this and throw it at Narilamb and see how I like it.

So then I decided to make a ridiculous joke comic about Narinder asking Lambert's hand in marriage specifically because he wants to get out of paying taxes. Because like, I know that spouse followers do actually still have to pay taxes in the actual game but. Hey Narinder and Lambert have presumably never married so they probably don't know that...? Honestly the only reason I made this was because the concept tickled me and I spent too much time on this for no one to see it, so. This comic and all it's absolute ridiculousness be upon ye.

While there's a tiny part of me that's been thinking about making this into an AU (which I'd probably call something like the "Strictly Platonic AU" or something), I know for a fact that I would blatantly not do anything legitimate with it so. Being someone who read Under The Red Hood and came out with the firm belief that, for Jason, it's not about killing Joker, it's about Jason wanting proof Batman would choose him over the Joker (bc shelia chose the joker). Jason could've killed the Joker himself, really, really easily. Jason kidnaps the Joker before the confrontation. I can't open my comic for a reference right now, but it felt like he had the Joker for quite a bit before the confrontation. He had him. He beat him up with a crowbar. He had every single opportunity to kill the Joker himself, but he didn't because that wasn't his goal. Make no mistake, he did plan for the Joker to be dead by the end of it, but do you see what im trying to say here

It's not about making Batman kill either. When Batman says he won't kill, Jason adjusts and goes, 'Let ME kill the Joker or kill me to stop me' instead. The test is all about Batman choosing him. The whole final confrontation is Jason's first death again. The parent, The Joker, and the explosives. It even ends with Jason unable to move as a bomb goes off right next to him again because the parent didn't choose Jason. And instead tried finding an option that'd benefit them and (consequencely) letting the Joker walk, again, lol, lmao <-in agony
