Outcaste Nakshatras: The Outsiders (part 3)

The more I study Mleccha nakshatra natives and the art they make, the more I understand how deeply lonely it is to have a Mleccha nak (Bharani, Ashlesha, Vishaka, Shravana) and I really feel for them. To live your whole life feeling misunderstood and othered is so difficult.

The movie Edward Scissorhands is a really good example of the "outcast" trope. The titular character is played by Johnny Depp who has Ashlesha Rising and his love interest is played by Winona Ryder who has Mercury (amatyakaraka) & Venus (atmakaraka) in Vishaka

I find Outcaste nak pairing very interesting because obviously you only feel like you belong/truly feel accepted in the presence of another Outcast.

Sidharth Malhotra, Vishaka Moon is married to Kiara Advani, who has Mercury & Venus (atmakaraka) in Ashlesha (if you have 2 or more planets in the same nak that energy is very concentrated even if its not your big 3)

they're both known for being pretty low-key people which is unusual in Bollywood lmao

Sid is an "outsider" which is what we call non-nepo actors in India. imagine the extent of nepotism in cinema in India that its the exception to be an "outsider"lmao. anyway Sid is pretty reserved and introverted and is known for not fitting in with the Bollywood crowd. Kiara is also kinda like that I guess but idk too much about her personality. They both seem happy together tho

Kareena Kapoor, Shravana Moon is married to Saif Ali Khan, Ashlesha Sun & Shravana Moon

Kareena's parents are famous actors who are separated (her dad was misogynistic and abusive and didn't want women to act) and even tho she's a nepo baby she didn't grow up with the same privileges as others in her famous family. Her elder sister had to drop out of school to support the family by acting as they were raised by a single mom and had fallen on bad times. You can see how the "outcast" themes were present in Kareena's life even though she's a very privileged nepo baby

Saif is also a nepo baby (welcome to bollywood lol) but he married a much older actress when he was 21 and had two kids. they later got divorced and Saif received a ton of bad press for alleged adultery, not getting custody or visitation rights of the kids, not paying child support (the amount was absurdly high tbh) etc he didn't fit in with the other actors of his generation. The media & public went crazy when news of Saif & Kareena getting married came out bc Saif is a divorcee with 2 kids (this stuff is still taboo in India unfortunately) and Kareena is one of the most successful stars of her generation. But they've been married for 10+ yrs and have 2 kids and are as happy as ever.

Even Kareena's longterm ex-boyfriend, Shahid Kapoor was a Mleccha caste nak guy (he has Vishaka Moon)

Expanding on the outcast tropes, Shahid's parents separated when he was young and he saw little of his biological father. He had to work very hard for very long to break into the industry and even now, he's not really given his due as an actor.

Alia Bhatt, Shravana Rising is married to Ranbir Kapoor, Shravana Moon

their marriage seems hella toxic to me ngl BUT they've both had similar childhoods.

Alia & Ranbir are both nepo babies (welcome to bollywood), Alia is like a tier 3 nepo (her father is a notoriously controversial filmmaker) whilst Ranbir is like a tier 1 nepo (he is a 4th generation actor from the biggest film family in India) however both their parents had unhappy marriages, and both of them had abusive fathers. trauma bonding, mayhaps? they're both also extremely close to their mothers as well (Moon dominant people often tend to be)

Its another example of Outcaste naks bonding over their shared experiences/feelings of being the outcast.

This is interesting to me because BP is the biggest girl group of all time yet they are also probably disproportionately hated for things they cant even control. they were mismanaged by a shitty ass company with very few comebacks and barely got to display their true calibre as artists and their media interactions, promos, other activities etc were severely controlled and restricted. all of this is to say that despite being the most successful group their actual experiences are far from sunshine and roses. they were treated like outcasts by their company and the industry and fans. they trained for 4-6 years, enduring a brutal and toxic system, worked very hard with what they were given, with 0 creative liberty to come this far im glad theyre pursuing solo careers now and hope to see them thrive<333

the movie Lost in Translation is a good example of two outcasts/lonely people who find comfort in each other

Sridevi, Ashlesha Sun & Rising and Boney Kapoor, Vishaka Sun & Mercury

So they had a really fcked up marriage that I won't get into but they were both people who felt like outcasts in their lives. Sridevi grew up with a stepfather and was pushed into acting by her mother when she was 3-4 years old (she's like an Indian Judy Garland tbh) who deprived her of formal education and a normal life so that she'd be the family cash cow. Being South Indian, she also found it hard to fit in among Bollywood folks as she initially spoke neither Hindi nor English. Boney's the ugly duckling of his family and his younger brother is one of the most famous/iconic actors ever, he had to become a movie producer since his brothers became actors and his father (who was a movie producer) thought it would be better if he stayed behind the scenes. themes of exclusion and outcast-ness crop up in their lives and in the lives of all the people I mention here.

Lady Bird is a good example of a movie about a female teenage outcast. The titular character is played by Saoirse Ronan, who has Bharani Moon

Recently I came across the content creator, Alana Lintao who often makes shorts about social behaviour. This one in particular stood out to me because its literally about one person being excluded by a group of friends or being treated like "the other".

Alana plays the excluded friend in this short as well. She has Bharani Sun, Swati Moon and Mercury in Revati amatyakaraka (Swati & Revati are both Shudra naks)

Outcaste naks are vilified and crucified for mistakes others get away with.

Janet's career took a hit and her life took a tumultuous turn after the Superbowl incident. She did not deserve all the vitriol she received then especially considering how so many others get away with wayyy worse

Wheein, Vishaka Moon grew up with a single mother and later after she made her debut her estranged father tried to borrow money from people under her name?? there was a minor scandal about it many years ago. She also grew up quite lower middle class if not poor.

David Bowie, Shravana Rising

Bowie once said, "“It wasn’t a particularly happy childhood, my parents were cold emotionally. There weren’t many hugs. I always craved affection because of that.”

Cole & Dylan Sprouse, Ashlesha Sun

Speaking on the Call Her Daddy podcast, he explained that their mother's issues with mental health and addiction contributed to her being "financially the most irresponsible woman ever." He said that when their dad was given forced custody when the boys were 10, their mom had already spent everything they'd earned from their early acting jobs. Though their dad wanted them to be "normal kids," he ultimately decided that the boys' acting careers were a financial necessity.

Ariel Winter, Shravana Sun

Ariel Winter has spoken out about how acting wasn't her choice, but it was her mother's. Ariel shared that her mother, Crystal Workman, had dreams of being an actor herself. Ariel said that with Crystal as her stage mom, she dealt with a lot of abuse and exploitation.

Once Ariel's acting career began, she said her mom put her on a strict diet and neglected her education. Her mother also had her dress in outfits that sexualized her. Ariel claimed her mom put her in “the smallest miniskirts, sailor suits, low-cut things, the shortest dresses you’ve ever seen. People thought I was 24 when I was 12. If there was going to be a nude scene when I was that age, my mother would have a thousand percent said yes.”

Now Bollywood is an industry run by film dynasties, its very rare for someone from the outside to break in and make it big. Being an "Outsider" is very difficult, people bully you, try to sabotage your career, try to isolate you etc etc, needless to say its not for the faint of heart. So lets take a look at some of the most successful "Outsiders" in Bollywood who made it big without any family in the business

ofc we have to start with the most successful outsider of all time, Shahrukh Khan, Shravana Moon

he truly came from nothing (father died when he was a teenager, mother died before he made his debut, has a sister with special needs who he has taken care of his entire life) and became the biggest star in the world.

Akshay Kumar, Vishaka Moon, he was a martial artist, chef, waiter and worked numerous odd jobs before he started modelling in his late 20s and later started acting and today he has a net worth of $340 million

Anushka Sharma, Bharani Sun

her life is truly a case of being lucky af, she was a model and by the age of 19-20 she was cast in a film opposite Shahrukh Khan aka the biggest actor in the country produced by YRF, one of the biggest film production companies in India. its truly a fairy tale because neither can Anushka act nor is she gifted in any other way (bad dancer, heck she was even an awful model) but she's incredibly successful in every way and is now married to the (former) Captain of the Indian cricket team

Deepika Padukone, Shravana Rising

she is from a privileged background (her dad's a renowned badminton player) but she worked very very hard to get where she is today and has had more career longevity than just about any other actress.

Bipasha Basu & John Abraham, Bharani Moon

they were both a hot couple who were really popular in the 2000s

there are many other successful Outsiders but they don't have outcaste naks lol, these are the only ones i can think of rn :/

My Favorite New Manga and Graphic Novels I Read in 2024

I read 114 manga volumes and graphic novels last year! Here’s a link to my Goodreads year in books, which tallies one book from each manga series ( I've arranged it so the manga/gns at the beginning, the novels start with Red, White & Royal Blue) and my storygraph wrap up.

Now let's get to all the new manga, with a little check in on ongoing titles at the bottom!

Love Bullet by inee

When someone who never had the chance to experience love meets an untimely death, they're given a chance to become a cupid. If they help enough people fall in love, they earn the chance to have another shot at life. Koharu meets her end after her best friend, Aki, confesses her love to her, and she becomes a cupid...

Love Bullet is a brand new yuri with fun characters and a cute art style that feels a little charmingly retro. The concept of modern day cupids using firearms and behaving like sharpshooters in an action movie is so fun, but there's also a beating heart behind it. The tragedy of Koharu's life being cut sort and the bittersweet arc where Koharu tries to help her living best friend deal with her lingering trauma over her sudden death...it's touching and well written. We don't know much about the other cupids yet, but they already have a great dynamic--with Koharu being guided by a kind mentor and being challenged by her boisterous battle loving teammate. And, as befitting a yuri, the way the girls approach their jobs is casually queer, with the "targets" often shown to have both guy and girl options.

It's a story with great potential that seems like it could go a ton of interesting places. It's a little different than the rest of this list that it's not officially out in English yet. The reason it's here is because the author sent out an SOS that the first Japanese volume is struggling in sales, and the international yuri community, excited about the awesome story they've seen so far, rose to the challenge and bought out the first volume in Japanese! So far it's been successful, with volume one even going out of stock for a bit. If you end up reading it (you'll have to rely on scanlation but they're easy to find) or even if you just simply want to support a yuri that's outside the box, I really encourage you to do the same. Here's a document on how to buy the Japanese version. Hopefully, the grassroots support will mean we get an official English release soon!

The Summer You Were There by Yuama

All you lovers of tragic lesbians, this is for you. The manga follows Shizuku, a deeply depressed girl who is so guilty about something in her past she's got some serious suicidal ideation going. But when Kaori, a girl in her class, reads her writing and guesses what's behind it, she challenges Shizuku to a bet where she has to write a novel about a romance between the two of them. Now they're suddenly spending a lot of time together, and Kaori is helping Shizuku unpack her guilt. However, Kaori is struggling too. She's actually very sick, and though she hides it, it's getting worse.

The manga is a heart wrenching meditation on grief and redemption. For very different reasons, both girls think they don't deserve love and both girls are shown they're very, very wrong by the other. This is a story about finding hope and joy in the spectre of death.

I like how Kaori tries to be the manic pixie dream girl who fixes all of Shizuku's problems, but then Shizuku very firmly says "what the hell. no. You need support too" and they're both allowed to be full characters who find solace in each other. Unlike what certain other media have done with the concept! Shizuku's backstory is also really interesting, and it hits well. It's just a very touching, but very sad read.

Barefoot Gen by Keiji Nakazawa

Barefoot Gen is a semi-autobiographical manga by Hiroshima survivor Nakazawa Keiji. Nakazawa said the story is taken not just from his life, but those of fellow survivors he talked to and lived with.

The story follows a boy named Gen, depicting how most of his family were killed by the atomic bomb, and how he struggled to survive in a post-war Japan, while surrounded by the horrible effects of radiation poisoning, economic devastation, and American imperialism.

It sticks out from other animanga I've seen about WWII bombings in that it's very critical and angry at the Japanese government, to the point that Gen even calls the Emperor a war criminal. What stands out even more is how direct it is in denouncing of Japan's war crimes against Korea and China, as well as condemning Japanese racism against Koreans. It makes sure you know that Korean POWs and forced laborers also died and suffered because of the bomb, and that the Japanese doctors discriminated against them, forcing Koreans to wait on receiving medical treatment until every Japanese person was treated.

It does a stomach churning, effective job depicting the horror of radiation poisoning and war, and its message is extremely firm: Its the common people who suffer in the wars while those in power exploit them, that war and violence are an endless vicious cycle we must break free from, and nuclear bombing must never happen again.

Though it puts a lot of blame on the Japanese government for entering the war and on citizens for supporting it, the story is also critical of America's cruelty and imperialism, depicting lot of things America did to Japanese citizens post-war we don't get taught-- like soldiers sexually assaulting Japanese women, like getting Japanese labor activists and protestors removed from their jobs, like literally torturing Japanese leftists, like luring Japanese citiizens to treatment centers with promises of medical aid for radiation sickness, only to collect the data and send them off with no help...

Though the manga is brutal, there are moments of comradery and kindness (and a lot of silly humor). Gen helps a lot of people along the way, and his resilience and his message not to give up is the heart of the manga.

It's educational and very direct about subjects that both sides don't want to acknowledge-- both Japanese nationalists and American nationalists do not like it (you can learn more about that here). Despite extremely gruesome content, it's aimed at kids, so it's very blunt and direct in its messages and dialogue. But that can be kind of refreshing.

 It can get a little repetitive on occasion and storylines and characters tend to be introduced very abruptly, but it does keep you rooting for and feeling for the characters all the way through, hoping things will get better for them (though they rarely do for long). I think it's an essential, highly informative and unforgettable read, and everyone should read at least a little bit. Or at the very least, read this interview with Nakazawa. If you can't handle the gruesome imagery of the comic, he describes his experience pretty in depth here, and there's a lot of other insight.

This Monster wants to Eat Me by Sai Naekawa

Hinako is a depressed girl who survived a terrible trauma and has been searching for death ever since. One day she gets approached by, Shiori, a mermaid who wants to eat her…but the thing is, this monster mermaid is a gourmet who wants her to be as delicious as possible, which means she’s going to make Hinako happy first before she eats her (as apparently that enhances her flavor). In the meantime Shiori has to fight off all the other monsters who want to snack on Hinako.

This is TOP TIER yuri horror and a must read for any lover of monster girls. It was custom made for a freak like me, who thinks a monster girl covered in the blood of her enemies seductively telling the protagonist she wants to devour her is the stuff that dreams are made of.

Shiori, the woman-eating mermaid in question, is a fascinating character right off the bat, always having a hint of menace and inhuman mystery, but showing some potential for genuinely caring for Hinako someday. There's an ongoing mystery of why monsters are so attracted to Hinako that's a good hook, as is the irony of Hinako starting to come alive thanks to a girl who wants to kill her. It's good stuff! And it'll get an anime soon, which I'm praying is worthy of such a cool story.

The Guy She Was Interested Wasn’t a Guy at All by Sumiko Arai

The green yuri! This web manga finally gotten a physical release this year! It tells the story of Mitsuki, a girl who works at a record shop. Her classmate Aya wanders in. Aya doesn't recognize Mitsuki with a face mask and hair hidden by a cap and immediately assumes Mitsuki's a guy. They bond over their mutual love of rock music and slowly start to get closer…and Aya finds her heart is fluttering not only over this mysterious boy, but her female classmate that seems a lot like him...

Despite it's clunky title, this manga makes a premise that could have been painfully cliche and, in the worst case, extremely uncomfortable and makes it work. Mitsuki catches on that Aya thinks she's a guy immediately, and she isn't offended but finds it a bit awkward and has a hard time clearing up the misunderstanding. It never swings into homophobic or transphobic territory imo. It helps that Aya is clearly catching feelings for "girl" Mitsuki along with "guy" Mitsuki from the beginning, subconsciously knowing they're the same person.

The focus of the story is the way their relationship develops through a shared love of Western rock music and it really captures the joy of finding someone who can share your interests and the affection that can spring up for that.

 The characters are very likeable and cute, the art is absolutely gorgeous, and the story as a whole has this laid back, naturalistic feeling while still developing at a good pace. I just really enjoy kicking back with my green yuri, and it's good reputation is well earned!

Maus by Art Spiegelman

This comic about Spiegelman interviewing his father, a Holocaust survivor, and learning his story (with Nazis being represented as cats and Jewish people as mice) is, of course, incredibly well known to the point it feels almost redundant to talk about it. But I did read it cover to cover for the first time last year, and unsurprisingly it's a great piece of art and an important story for anyone to look into.

The parts recounting the Holocaust were heartbreaking and horrifying as expected, and I'd expected that. But the things I hadn't heard as much about was how much the book explored Spiegelman's complicated relationship with his father, and his anxieties as an artist and whether he was the right one to tell this story. It was fascinating to see him struggle with those things, and it added a lot of layers.

The Moon on a Rainy Night by Kuzushiro

One rainy night, Saki runs into Kanon and is immediately infatuated with the other girl. When she sees Kanon at school, she discovers Kanon is hard of hearing. Kanon is understandably frustrated at the ableism she tends to endure. But as Saki reaches out and gets to know her, Kanon starts to open up. And Saki, having gone through struggles related to her sexuality in the past, starts getting anxious about her feelings for Kanon...

The Moon on a Rainy Night is just... REALLY good. Kanon is just a great character, and as a lover of stubborn, prickly girls I just find her so charming. She has a lot going on with her, like her interest in music and relationship with her family and various quirks.

One thing I really like is how narrative allows her to be frustrated about the stuff she goes through, allows her to have complex feelings about being disabled, and pays attention the little details. She has to clear up misconceptions she can't hear anything, she points out that only 20 percent of deaf people use sign language (but starts using it when she really relates to a movie and the way the cute actor uses it, which is such a teenager thing to do), the lip reading isn't treated as some magic thing, Kanon has to remind people to look at her or she can't hear them, and she misreads things a fair amount.

I'm not hard of hearing, so I'm far from the authority, but most examples of deaf and/or hard-of-hearing female characters I can think of in anime (okay so there's only like two I can think of, so I don't know if I could say that qualifies as a pattern) are depicted as shy, super sweet and socially naive, so it's refreshing to have a character who brings some variety.

Saki is also such an interesting and relatable character. Her struggles with being gay feel so real, and I related so much when she was learning sign language and got bummed out by the heteronormativity of one sign (using "man" and "woman" for marriage). I also like that Saki finds an adult lesbian who gently supports her and mentors her, it's a very sweet relationship. Above all, Saki is struggling with being in love, and the story is amazing at communicating her adolescent feelings. It's just a fantastic romance and character study, and I hope the upcoming anime does it justice.

Wash Day Diaries by Jamila Rowser and Robyn Smith

Wash Day Diaries follows four best friends and their daily lives through interconnected short stories. As the official summary states: "The book takes its title from the wash day experience shared by Black women everywhere of setting aside all plans and responsibilities for a full day of washing, conditioning, and nourishing their hair".

The comic makes a great use of color to reflect the characters' moods, and the girls are drawn vibrantly and distinctively. The peek into the characters' daily lives feels like getting to know some good friends, and there's a great attention to detail, especially with the comic's beautiful step-by-step depiction of how each woman does her hair and what it says about her.

 The comic touches on topics like depression, dementia, and homophobia. Just like real life, these things aren't neatly resolved, but the story does offer some hope and catharsis. It's a pretty quick read, but it's packed with good stuff.

Magilumiere Magical Girls Inc. by Yu Aoki

I'm going to give myself a little break and just reuse my entry for the anime. (The only difference between them is that the manga flows a bit better than the anime, moving at a faster pace with huge panels suiting the art style and the action!)

Being a magical girl is no longer the domain of teenagers, and has evolved into an actual career dominated by adult women. Kana becomes a magical girl for a scrappy start up company, and tries her best to navigate working life.

It’s the magical girl story about adult women I’ve been craving for years! Magical girl media often explores the struggles of adolescence and growing up, and this show takes us to the next step by using magical girls to explore what it’s like to be a young woman entering the working world. The focus is one Kana struggling to grow her confidence and accept support from her workplace, but it also has a lot to say about companies exploiting their workers, prizing efficiency and growth over actually taking care of their customers, and it shows how the world could be better than what it is right now. I Married My Female Friend by Shio Usui

A pair of best friends enter a platonic marriage they both agreed to with the promise they’ll divorce if one of them falls in love. But one woman has decidedly not platonic feelings for her wife, and is trying to repress them...

This is a sweet, laid-back story from the creator of Doughnuts Under the Crescent Moon. It has a very slice-of-life feel, with the characters feelings and conflicts developing subtlety. There's a focus on domestic life and the compromises and struggles one makes along the way. It's set in a world where gay marriage is legal in Japan, which is cool to see. If you liked Doughnuts, or are just looking for a chill yuri, I'd check this out!

Himawari House by Harmony Becker

 Himawari House follows the story of Nao, a half-Japanese woman who immigrated to America when she was young. She's now returning to Japan and feels a feels a deep sadness from how disconnected she's gotten from Japan's language and culture. While in Japan, she lives with two other girls, Hyejung and Tina, who are from South Korea and Singapore respectively. They form a friendship as all of them struggle to get used to Japan and deal with language barriers.

We get the interconnected stories of all three girls, and all of them are really interesting in their own way. This story does a lot of cool things with language, for example, showing words fading out when someone can't understand them, giving the reader the same experience the character is having trying to understand the language. It was a fascinating experience. The book does an effective job exploring Nao's feelings of alienation from both America and Japan, while having a lot of other interesting plotlines that made all the characters feel rounded and developed, such as struggles with independence and expectations from parents, trying to navigate romances, and dealing with homesickness. The art is beautiful as well. This is a well crafted and insightful story, that you might find especially great if you're interested in languages, cultures, stories about identity, and stories about Japan.

Kiss and White Lily for My Dearest Girl by Canno

Kiss and White Lily follows multiple lesbian relationships, with its main storyline being about two academic rivals, where one is determined to rank first in class, and the other is an effortless genius who becomes intrigued at the possibility of someone beating her.

The main couple have the kind of messy combative sexual tension I wish we’d see more often in yuri because it’s so good. I just love the drama and mixture of rage and attraction. The manga follows other couples too and while some stories are stronger than others, they're all usually entertaining in some way and its fun to watch the characters grow. The art's also very cute and the characters are vibrant. The ending is really strong too, putting a perfect cap on the story of the main couple especially.

However, big warning for some nonconsensual kisses in early volumes, with Kurosawa being especially pushy. There's also a storyline with...well it does leave you a little wiggle room on whether it's actually incest between a minor and an adult portrayed romantically??? but um. the implication is strong. Fortunately, that's mainly contained to the seventh volume--you can just skip any stories about the sisters.

When the manga is good, it's really good, and that makes up for some of the questionable elements for me, even if I wish they weren't there. You might agree or disagree!

I Think My Son is Gay and I Want to Be a Wall both wrapped up with fairly open endings but remained good reads over all. I finally got around to finishing After Hours, a yuri about a girl who gets ditched by her friend at the club, only to meet a cool punk girl who introduces her to the world of DJ-ing. It's a very charming three volume tale, and I love the playful vibe and more natural-sounding dialogue, especially for the cool party-girl love interest.

There are several manga that just stay the course as far as being excellent go: Otherside Picnic (which is finally at some of the best parts of the light novels! It's getting real!), Monthly Girls Nozaki-kun, Witch Hat Atelier, A Man and his Cat, How Do We Relationship, March Come in Like a Lion, The Summer Hikaru Died and She Loves to Cook and She Loves to Eat.

For Yuri is my Job, I have to warn for a intense predatory sexual assault scene between an adult antagonist and one of the underage main characters. It's even ambiguous whether the underage character in question got raped for a few pages (but she wasn't). It's completely framed as a an evil, bad act by the antagonist, but how it was handled was SO intense and kind of weird I'm not sure how I feel about it. Yona of the Dawn has gotten incredibly intense lately and continues extremely slowly but surely approaching the finale. Maybe we'll get it in four years or something.

And that it! I'm going to happily keep reading all these manga, as well as continue checking out some new ones, like Akane-banashi! I hope you enjoyed these recs.

one of the big reasons I like homelander and jamie together so much is because of the similarities i see between them both and I think think that makes their ship dynamic a bit more than just 2d for myself.

homelander/ john was created and forced into the spotlight from birth; he always has to be “on” for everyone and in the show it’s played out so well and lets the audience into this unspoken/unprocessed trauma that literally goes deeper than his childhood. I think of the scene where he looks in the file box and see's that they've even bagged his blanket up and call it a “prop”. It's like all he’s ever been to vought and the world is a prop. They have the control to send Homelander into a simultaneous spiral of self doubt and untamable rage: it gets them views, it reminds Homelander of his "place" it reminds him that he is a lab experiment, that everything special about him came from a fucking test tube and there's nothing he can do to change that. and when he starts to break free from their own little world of control and mind games it upsets them (but it forces them to recognize that he's nearly unstoppable and he can and will fight back when backed into the corner and they better watch their fucking backs). Homelander has his flaws, as does any good character and I think that's what I like about him.

Like he's a total asshole, a real dick who doesn't force himself to filter his shitty opinions or comments regardless of who it affects. We see that with the way he just freely lets people know that humans are toys that are there to be broken. That has got to be something that was hardwired into him as a kid anytime he made a mistake playing with another human and forgot his threshold is not at all the same as a humans. When he'd cry and feel remorse and empathy for those in pain; I think Vought cut that out of him, shamed him and made him feel less than for caring for those "less than him" and so of course he's grown to see himself as better than, to see humans as replaceable, expendable- useless toys that can be remade for his needs and desires. But I think there's a part of him still in there buried beneath all the darkness that wants human connection, wants worth and belonging. There's tons of scenes that prove this to me-- this man craves physical intimacy in the form of gentle touch and kind words, he was just abandoned so often that his depravity and douchebag external behaviors have become his security blanket.

In him embracing who they created him to be, suddenly he’s evil and malicious and needs to be killed. they created a “monster” and then got mad that it did exactly what they trained it to do. (For clarity homie is not a monster to me) he’s been abandoned by everyone and everything that makes a person “human” he was punished for his shortcomings, let down by everyone who should’ve done more and done better. And then they blame him for how he turned out and try to kill him at every single opportunity. He’s only out of control because there’s been no stability or security for him from anyone, anywhere, ever. It feels like fear is a big component or driving factor in how Homelander rationalizes his actions. 

So why do I see such similarities and enjoy the concept of shipping Homelander wiht Jamie Dutton from Yellowstone? Thanks for asking lmao. I'll jump right in. With Jamie Dutton we already know his birth dad was an abusive drunk who created a drug fueled addict out of his mother. John Dutton has no trouble telling Garrett to his face that Garrett punished his wife for becoming what he created her to be and then in a drug/alcohol fueled rage killed his mother when he found jamie had gotten ahold of her drugs-- he also passively states that if Jamie wants to allow Garrett to undo everything John made him to be then it was fair game and to go ahead. No decent parent views their child as a project they solely created- like some science project slapped together on the weekends. John Dutton for the record also has a savior complex though because he likes to play the part of a saint while being one of the most abusive fathers out there to all of his children, we just see it played out the most on screen with Jamie,

Garrett killing his wife gets him thrown in prison and Jamie is adopted out of obligation by none other than the states biggest name, John dutton, and john raises this kid to know that he’s not real family- he’s not loved or respected by him or the rest of his family. The proof of this is Beth yelling at her father to tell her that he ever cared about or loved Jamie the way he did her, Kayce, or Lee. So if the other children picked up on this fact I'm gonna be hard-pressed to believe Jamie didn't himself. And yet Jamie is expected to live up to and beyond the expectations and standards of John Dutton or suffer the consequences-- of which he's suffered a multitude of times already.

All Jamie wants is to be loved and to belong-- He has no sense of identity because that's how John raised him up. He was nothing but a means to an end, a tool and one that John spends his entire childhood berating in front of his siblings and everyone else watching. He disparages Jamie's accomplishments and character to anyone within listening distance constantly. Jamie was a good cowboy-- Rip has mentioned this a few times that Jamie was really good at what he did as a cowboy before John applied sneakily under the table to Ivy League College Harvard on the completely opposite side of the states and pushed Jamie as far away from the ranch as he legally could. He asks Jamie directly what he wants to be when he grows up and Jamie says, I wanna be like you dad, I wanna make you proud and run the Yellowstone like you and John laughs in his face and says the only way you'll be like me a protect the ranch is if you leave and do everything I tell you to do down to a T- don't stray, don't fuck up, do what I say and then you'll have a shot at being me. He lies through his teeth to this kid because he can't have someone who isn't blood in the line of inheritance.

Not only does John force Jamie to become the thing he hates most as a way to dangle the hope Jamie has of being loved in front of him, he vocally regrets and despises Jamie for it. Jamie operates out of abandonment a lot and begrudgingly becomes the best lawyer he can be- so much that he becomes the states attorney but only after John has spent full energy humiliating and punishing Jamie for daring to want more than what John will ever give him. Repeatedly, John yanks the respect and love right out of Jamie's reach anyway and every time. he ostracizes Jamie while demanding he not embarrass the Dutton family or name. When Jamie finally has enough and attempts having a backbone of his own John not only beats him up and has him disowned but agrees with his daughter that Jamie is his greatest failure in life and biggest disappointment.

They not only convince jamie not to kill himself but then they spend all their energy telling him he's a coward and weak minded and weakhearted and should kill himself it escalates to them saying that they will kill him. They created him to be the protector of their heritage; lineage, inheritance- everything he wasn't allowed to be a part of and when he's become what they forced him to be they still hate him and want him killed. 

Jamie breaks a window after his sister and father corner him in the kitchen. He screams that he’s given everything to this family and why isn’t it good enough and that he hates John. Later on his sister backs him into a corner- forces him to kill his birth father who surprisingly is the only one who genuinely loves Jamie and tells him to never let the Duttons convince him he's a bad man just because he's different from them. Then she threatens him with rape, prison, taking and hurting his child and finally with murdering him. But the narrative still wants you to believe that Jamie is the villain because he isn't a blood Dutton. They abuse this character over the span of 5 seasons and call his reactionary actions to the perpetual abuse wrong and abusive---why do they want me to view the victim of abuse as the victim-- that's fucked. Jamie operates a lot out of fear too and people think that it makes him spineless but it doesn’t. When you’ve been forced back in a corner all your life by pitchforks and fire eventually the fear breaks and you lash out in desperation. But they use that against him and consider him a villain for it. 

Jamie's storyline reminds me so much of Homelander asking Ryan “why am i not good enough for you?” Because his entire life he’s been forced into this worldview that he’s nothing more than a show animal or a puppet for the world to play with. Like Homelander laments; he does what people want they hate him... he doesn’t do what people want they hate him. He tries and he tries and he tries and it’s never good enough. But nobody ever stops to think he was raised from birth to be the way he is. There was no security for him, no warmth or care, no humanity nor humility for him to learn and grow from. Maybe he sees the way he could’ve been in Ryan and it opens up a wound in him like “but why couldn’t i have had a mother or father who loved me, who wanted me? Why did it always have to be “smile at the camera and do a trick?” Homelander was forced into to the dance monkey dance schtick and Jamie was forced to become the outlet of his families disgust and hatred. Therefore at the first signs of feeling anything other than fear, malice, self preservation, or disappointment they're incapable of accepting honest gestures of love from the people around them because it could all be a joke, it could be all for show and just a ruse- they could let their guards down and learn to love and be loved only for it all to be yanked away and the bright lights shined down on them in a display of "hahaha you idiot it was all fake!"

No matter what either of them do it’s never good enough and they both strike me as the carriers of the worst type of trauma from abuse and neglect, I just love my damaged me so deeply. Annnnyway that’s all. I mean there’s more but that’s all for rn because this is very long winded and I don’t want to be annoying lmao.

first things first ultra despair girls is most certainly some kind of spinoff in this universe! so its not considered a main storyline/killing game however it is still on ongoing series! i imagine after 53 seasons the danganronpa timeline has been seriously fucked up and udg is absolutely one of the main reasons its so wonky, you can IMAGINE all of the conspiracy youtube videos trying to piece that shit together lmfaooooo. but yep udg is a running spinoff series starring toko, komaru, and the warriors of hope (who are teenagers in this au at this point!!). it also features a range of other villains and side characters that were introduced later on :] udg definitely isnt as popular nor is it as consistent in its production as the main danganronpa story is (while danganronpa has at least one season per year, udg has one maybe every three), but it still gets a whole lot of views !! which means toko and komaru are unfortunately in it for the long haul </3

they live seperate from each other however they're over at each others apartments so often that they basically live together LMFAO. they rely on each other SO so heavily. i personally think they have romantic feelings somewhere underneath their fear of losing each other to the mental trauma of danganronpa however there is NO WAY danganronpa would ever let them be a couple. the most theyre allowed to do is queerbait ghfdsjkghjkdf. if they confirm anything between the pair they are destroying an entire market of fans they can profit off of and also likely losing hella sponsorship money. its extremely difficult navigating a relationship like that, where they have become so heavily codependent on each other not only because their wellbeing relies on the other being healthy and well but also because they've grown so close it's impossible to imagine a future where the other isnt involved somehow. everything danganronpa has put them through, it has usually been TOGETHER, which means they've bonded through those experiences. is that healthy? absolutely the fuck it is not however there is no time or space to navigate that or to spend time away from each other (even if they wanted to, which they don't)!!

the pair stay relatively close with the warriors of hope-- or at least komaru does lmfaooo. like i said before the warriors of hope are teenagers at this point (honestly theyre probably mius age!! which sparks a lot of hypothetical interactions LMAO) so they dont really need babysitters or anything like that but because there are not very many people who could possibly understand what they've gone through they tend to stick together!! a few of them, at least. i imagine nagisa is a lot more distant and kotoko probably has other friends she talks to a whole ton :] people that arent constant walking reminders of her current and past traumas lol

komaru also doesnt talk to makoto as often anymore! they kind of keep in touch and definitely see each other at press conferences and all that, but the relationship has become somewhat strained. its a bit awkward knowing they arent actually related!! theyre still kind to each other and care about each other like actual siblings but its hard not to feel sad around the other unfortunately :(

and toko definitely doesnt talk to byakuya much anymore besides the occasional promotional material LMFAO. they dont despise each other but both have done a lot of growing and a lot of that included distancing themselves from each other

12. Do they have many heated arguments? How do they smooth things over?

Luckily they don’t argue too often, but there have definitely been some instances when they've had to step away from each other for a bit and cool off. Jayde can't sleep without Nadya next to her, though, so their fights hardly ever carry over into the next day and they usually end up talking things out and/or coming to a compromise. One thing about their relationship is that they know no matter how bad their disagreements are, they'll still be together.

26. What are their vices?

Jayde has a laundry list of self destructive habits that range from alcohol abuse to never being able to walk away from a fight. It stems from her lack of self preservation due to her survivor's guilt. She gets better over time, but her behavior can be a point of contention in their relationship.

Nadya, on the other hand, is a workaholic. She buries herself in tasks or school work or hours at the clinic to bolster her sense of self worth while also not giving herself the time to think about/acknowledge her past traumas. She is really good at hiding her pain because of it, too.

36. Who’s more likely to fire up the stove at 2am because the other woke up in the middle of the night hungry?

Jayde all the way. And she has cooked for Nadya that late, too. Cooking is one of her love languages and all it takes is one little comment from Nadya about something she thinks sounds tasty and Jayde is on it.

44. Who would dance in the kitchen making dinner? Would the other join in or watch from the doorway?

Once Jayde gets comfortable with music again she'll sometimes sings to herself while she cooks and Nadya joins in on the fun by dancing until she can finally pull Jayde away from the stove to dance with her as she sings. RIP to the accidentally burnt casualties along the way tho.

48. Who’s the better driver?

On paper, Nadya is. She actually has a legal license lol. Jayde picked it up on her family ranch curtesy of her dad, but never actually took a driving test and got her license. Jayde can pull off some crazy ass maneuvers under a ton of pressure, though! Whereas Nadya tends to panic behind the wheel while they're being shot at or run down. Understandably.

53. Would they go skinny dipping?

They both love to go skinny dipping! But only if there's a really private area. Jayde actually found a secret watering hole not too far from the Lodge and took Nadya there for her birthday one year (the birthday she proposed) and they spent a good chunk of the afternoon skinny dipping.

55. Do they like watching clouds or star gazing?

They do both, but their favorite by far is star gazing. Especially on camping nights where they've hiked all day and it's just the two of them out in the middle of nowhere all snuggled up by the campfire.

I'll make a little list (and try not to write a poem for each of them xD), so it will be tidier!

Mercenary Rick & Vampire Rick ( @mcltiples ) ~ Where to start with these two? Maybe from the fact that, thanks to Rin, not only I got to write this particular OC, but also to develop him and his mentality...and how it shifts when faced with a reality that's much crazier than the one he had only theorised up to one point. I had initially created Mercenary Rick with a specific plotline in mind (which btw I never got to write), but I'm so glad to have had the chance to make him into something more than a character in one story. And I've also discovered that he is much more fun to write than I had thought! His dynamic with Vampire Rick is hilarious and touching at the same time. On one hand, these two appear so very different on the surface and get into tons of misunderstandings, not to mention that they have a few recurring gags that never get old. On the other, however, the truth is that they are more similar than they realise. They could easily understand each other's pain and regrets, maybe even help each other heal...if they weren't so stubborn and emotionally constipated -facepalm-

AR & E-Rick ( @mcltiples again ) ~ Honestly, I had expected these two to butt heads a lot. Instead, not only they became fast friends (despite how AR has embarrassed E-Rick in front of the whole Citadel during their first meeting), but they also ended up dating each other, somehow. They are absolutely adorable (E-Rick especially), and also kind of wholesome. AR tends to lower his masks down a bit around E-Rick and shows a more caring, tender side that's rarely seen under any other circumstances. On the other hand, however, they are both keeping secrets and hiding the darkest sides of themselves from each other. I'm looking forward to see how their relationship will be affected when all that shit comes to the surface. It could either break them up or tie them closer. It's more likely that the second thing will happen, but I'm anticipating plenty of delicious angst before they get there!

SR & E-Rick ( @mcltiples again 2.0) ~ Another very fun dynamic Rick and I developed, always involving her E-Rick, is his friendships with SR. They met through AR (of course) and it turns out that they are so very similar, much more than Rin and I had realised at first. They both have a soft spot for Mortys, they both are extremely diligent when it comes to their job, they both have well defined but flexible morals and they both can be really dramatic. Not to mention how easy to fluster they both are xD Honestly, they are more than friends, or at least are starting to be. I can see them becoming queerplatonic partners down the road. They are very affectionate with each other, verbally and physically, and really emotionally close. They've actually kissed a couple of times and have some sort of attraction thing ongoing, but absolutely no form of romance...and they wouldn't want it any different.

AR & Slick Morty ( @slickmcrty ) ~ One of the core concepts on which I had initially created AR's character is that he absolutely doesn't want to be assigned Morty. His guilt over his Beth's death has led him to alienate everyone in his life, because deep down he is convinced that he will eventually get them killed too. Considering how Mortys tend to be treated by plenty of Ricks and considering how dangerous his job can be, he had always refused to keep the ones who get assigned to him. Enter Slick, the way Ally writes him. He's been through a lot of Rick-related trauma and he has gained this reputation as a jinx because all his previous Ricks have either died or got rid of him after he had almost killed them. AR is his last chance. So, despite his rule, AR keeps him, while he tries to find someone he can paw him off to...but in the end that never happens. They have a very fun dynamic, where AR is pretty much the "cool uncle" or the "prankster older brother". He'll tease Slick and mess with him to the point the poor kid could die of embarrassment, but at the same time he's fiercely protective of him. And he got attached, even if he wouldn't admit it easily. Slick has also started to work on his past traumas and find some self-esteem and happiness, which I find absolutely heart-warming.

SR & Bishop ( @technodromes ) ~ These two are another ship I didn't see coming xD I thought since the start that they would make a great pair of friends, since their work ethics are very much alike, and so is their willingness to break the rules for the right reason (or for the sake of a few, specific people). Also, their lack of social skills makes them naturally comfortable with each other, because they understand each other's difficulties when it comes to this sort of thing. But damn, never I would have thought that they could have so much romantic chemistry! It was a good surprise and, even if Saby and I have just started exploring that side of their relationship, I already love them. They are cute and wholesome and hilarious too. Two grown men (well, fully developed brain in Bishop's case, I guess) and they act like teenagers at their first crush xD I wasn't really planning on giving SR a love interest, 'cause he kinda gave up on that sort of things after his divorce, but I guess Bishop changed both my and his mind.

SR & F-289 Morty ( @shwiftymedley ) ~ This is another work-in-progress dynamic, but I'm already really enjoying it. These two are such an unlikely pair, forced to bond out of necessity, and yet they find out that they can enjoy each other's company a lot. It's a little unsettling at first, especially for SR, because they are very much far from their idea of how a Rick/Morty is supposed to be, but that's also why they find each other's company pleasant. Finding SR a work partner was one of the things I've always wanted to do with him (it's even in his bio) and I think that F-289 could make a great pick for that role!

AR & SR ~ Last but not least, let me talk about a relationship between my two OCs xD Idk if it fits the ask, but AR and SR's friendship is super important for both their characters. SR basically saved AR's life and he is the first person AR has allowed close to him since his Beth's death. Not to mention that he is the only one to know the real extent of AR's mental illness. Similarly, AR is the first person in a long time SR feels like he can be himself with. He might get teased a lot, but he can let loose with his best friend as he has never done before. Their dynamic is really funny because they are opposites in a lot of things (starting from their chosen careers) and their personalities clash a lot too, and yet they are thicker than thieves. Neither can imagine his life without the other by now. Fun fact, I had developed them individually until one day I decided that SR could be the Rick who rescues AR after he arrives on the Citadel...and they have been inseparable since then.

Or, They were, Until he met GF, Also known as Annabelle. She started off as a fangirl who followed him around, He despised her until he began to know her and they fell in love. Behind the camera he's shown as abusive physically and mentally, But when it's all off he holds her close and they both know how much they love eachother. Once a fan saw this and recorded it, Making it go viral and basically ruining his career as everyone thought his videos were now scripted. Eventually, Running out of ideas and options, He recorded a diss track rap video. It didn't matter if it was scripted, The music was good and it got him back on track. The fact they could bride the judges for way less time helped them not to hold a grudge, As well. Their parents are very supportive, And always have been. It helps that their little brother wanted to take over the family buisness, So losing them wasn't a big loss. They've stopped at least 3 total school shootings, Saving multiple people in the process. Best friends since they were toddlers, Much more than neighbors. They were known for never leaving each others sides! They always wanted to spend the night at each others houses, They needed to be in the same classes and next to each other in class or they'd bawl their eyes out. They got older, They changed. No longer the type to sob for the other if separated, In fact, Skid would simply message Pump to make up for it. Pump would fight anyone to get to Skid, Even his own parents. They usually go by he/him if alone, Which is rare, But when they're together they won't let you address just one of them. Pumps parents had always been abusive and neglectful to him, So one day, On his 12th birthday, He stabbed them both 37 times in the chest. He told Skid and they ran away together. Now they have their own gang, Skid hacks to disable security cameras and alarm systems, While Pump does the actual murders for neglectful or abusive parents. MM, or Mother Meanest, Is known as Annabelles mother. While being a kindhearted nurse on the surface, She was abusive to her daughter underneath it all. She'd physically abuse and beat her, Not caring for how she cried. Annabelle would've taken Reggie there so his mom could treat him and fix him up. While resting Reggie realizes what's going on and fights her. In the first song he's suspicious, 2nd one is followed by a cutscene that shows MM hitting Anna followed by Reggie going into his signature angry mode. His stitches pop and he's a mess obviously. It ends with Reggie telling Anna to run. MM often uses the excuse for beating her as it's her 'culture'

On the week with MM and FF working together, They try to kill Reggie to gain back control of their 'son'. The first two songs, Reggie has voice cracks he has to not hit or else he'll lose half of his health. MM would also be throwing syringes that Reggie has to dodge. The 3rd song goes dark, Just Reggie singing to himself. It'd be a melodramatic song with sad giving up undertones. Slowly it'd get louder and more aggressive, Til he's once again shaking the stage in anger! The song ends with a cutscene of Pico telling them to freeze. Charges against Reggie are dropped as they're brought to trial for attempted murder.

(OKAY okay so I've come to provide more information on the AU, I'm still working on it a lot so things might change or be added but I got a basic idea of what things are like rn !!)

Info dump moment rn, also TW for slight trauma mentions/hints

• Sam had managed to save the Wii from melting itself all those years ago, and is a pretty big person on tech, so she likes to experiment and try new things, and actively tries to help Eteled out or transfer him through devices so he isn't just stuck in one place all the time, with lots of trial and tons of error, especially since she knows the Wii's getting old and that it can be unstable occasionally with glitches

• Kyle has also taken a liking to learning more about technology through Sam's influence so he sometimes comes over and they both will just study and brainstorm ideas

• Sam moved out of her home and now lives in her own apartment, is in college to pursue her dream of working around and creating technology, hasn't really considered making a job out of it since she mostly does it for fun and likes to achieve her dream goals, Nathan and Kyle also occasionally visit to just hang out and do whatever, usually resulting in the three staying up very late into a movie or game night, and Eteled having to talk Sam into getting sleep for the next morning

• Even though Sam is big on all tech, consoles and video games, she still has a soft spot for old generation consoles in particular

• Sam, Nathan and Kyle had all gotten pretty close growing up so they're like a dumbass trio /lh

• Will moved out of state or some shit

• Kyle wakes up from his villain arc and makes a truce with Eteled /J.. FR though Kyle softens up and becomes more understanding of Eteled's side after they start talking it out, while what happened did bother him at the time all those years ago, he just kinda grew up to the point where it didn't have such of an effect on him anymore, I mean all he saw was a Mii get slice and diced, no need to go beast mode over it, so they forgive each other of the past

• Kyle and Nathan are besties to homosexuals, homie love

• Sam made a Mii of herself from when she was younger to keep Eteled company when going out or having to attend school, Eteled appreciated it but wouldn't wanna admit how it wasn't the same and about how much he would miss Sam when she had to get off the Wii

• Gives Eteled abandonment issues because I love being evil

• He's actually clingy on the inside but would never admit it to anyone

• Also views Sam as a sort of daughter figure besides just a friend but is too nervous to mention it, he wants Sam to be safe, loves whenever she talks or rants to him about anything or shows him something she made or is proud of, or even just anything at all, father Eteled is proud of his child/bestie

• He like, genuinely feels loved around her and would definitely cry about it but would never show it, or at least try not to

• Eteled has the favorite Mii pants because Sam put them on him, with quote "I think it's about time my best friend gets to rock a new style", and yes it did make him almost cry on the spot

• Austin is like, mentally conflicted as hell

• Austin and Eteled both feel guilty for what they've done to each other over the years, aren't sure they can or are ready to forgive the other but they're very slowly learning to tolerate each other

• They're like enemies to kinda friends in a way

• They're traumatized mfs

• They still sometimes fight but it's usually just yelling or saying shit now, they don't do the chair, deletion or axe really anymore since they at least got to the point where they respect each other's boundaries and triggers, and there's no point to keep doing the same old for over 10+ years, for the most part, they still slip up sometimes

• They do fuck up though occasionally so that's why Eteled has scars and Austin is a bit more bashed up

• They still have a rooted dislike for each other they're trying to get over but they sometimes chill out or talk, usually when Sam is asleep or off the Wii for a while, the two just will maybe visit or sit around to at least try to understand the other better

• Sam knows Austin is still around, and it took a while but with time she grew to accept him when he didn't seem like a big threat anymore, and that he was just as important of a soul as Eteled was, she still didn't like the fights and didn't know the full story

• She'd probably section them away from the other with a child gate if she could

• Austin of course has an ego and would never tell another soul that he has many nightmares of the server room and about what happens if he gets caught off guard or is sleeping when Eteled decides to attack him again, Eteled wouldn't do that, and Austin knows it but it's just the deep rooted fear he can't get rid of, even though he's much taller and technically more powerful than the smaller Mii

• Eteled is just tired, usually just sleeps in the Mii channel, especially when under stress or tires himself out if he's going through a moment, like triggered memories or emotions

• From all the deleting and the chair, and more crap from his early life, Eteled is just terrified of it all so even the idea of them scares the fuck out of him, so as a natural response he just tries to defend himself with his axe even if he would be shaking like a chicken, he really tries not to pull it out but he can't always stop himself

• The axe itself would probably also bother Austin a bit, but he would still try to cautiously calm Eteled down since he knows he's just afraid, so afterwards they'd probably have to awkwardly apologize for what the fuck happened at that very moment

• Sam sometimes offers them both to play a game together with her, or plans on playing with Eteled and invites Austin along, as a way to make them bond, they do end up having some fun though

• Eteled has seen and/or been around or within newer Nintendo consoles, but personally prefers being in the Wii since he's used to it the most, and it's the most comfortable and homey to him

• Oh yeah, if Austin or Eteled is having an episode or is deeply upset then the other will try to help sometimes if it's really bad, Austin tries to hide it more but it doesn't always work, yeah they have reasonable reasons to not like the other, but they aren't complete assholes

• They both got trauma memories and aren't gonna just watch the other suffer through it

• Austin may or may not have taken in what Eteled had said all that time ago about "Learning to move past the past", even though that technically makes Eteled a hypocrite when he's constantly beating himself up about shit mentally, even after years, they are both doing it tbh

• Also Kyle doesn't know about Austin 100% but is curious to know his story and who he is and used to be, and how he got in the Wii, especially after the passing of his family member of the same name, little does he know..

• Sam also doesn't know about any of it, neither Sam or Kyle know of what happened or Austin's story, Austin being in a tight spot since he doesn't wanna reveal his identity yet, knowing the possible reaction, for Eteled's sake, Sam's and especially Kyle's, and Eteled being absolutely fucking terrified since the fear of losing someone like Sam could become real, and the small but growing friendship he was slowly making with Kyle could go right back to hatred and wanting the small Mii deleted, not including the fact that he still eats at himself for his past actions so it being brought back up again would be a ✨mess✨

• Austin doesn't know if he forgives Eteled or not, but wants to try to move past it and not be reminded in any way

• Nathan is still a little lowkey scared of Eteled ngl, doesn't wanna upset him or anything and Eteled can tell, he probably sighs to himself but he can't blame the guy

• Kyle has thought about making another Mii of himself on what is now long been Sam's Wii, now that he's older and him and Eteled are rather chill, but decided against it since he wasn't sure, not because he didn't trust Eteled, but because he figured it could potentially remind the Mii of the past, so whenever he plays on it he just uses Eteled

I haven't heard you say anything yet and I need to know your opinion on the Jonathan and Will scene in vol 2.

Okay so I've seen mixed reviews about it, but I'm not going to lie to you... I actually really enjoyed it. I literally cried.

For those who didn't like it because Will didn't come out directly, we have to understand that Will is still only like 14-15 right now and he's figuring himself out. This is also in a time where this stuff was not talked about and if it was, in wasn't always in a good light. And he spent a majority of his life in Hawkins, IN, a small town in a red state. We see this fear with Robin, too, who came out to Steve but is scared to come out to someone else because if the wrong person finds out, that's it.

So, he's lived in this new town for 8 months and he's figuring out a lot of shit. Will is a character with trauma. He has a lot to unpack and he's away from his friends, and a big part of his support system. He also is watching out for El, another character with a ton of TRAUMA. He's got a lot going on, and all of the emotions of everything are overwhelming. I don't think he's ready to come out yet. And Jonathan knew that.

I think Jonathan knows Will is gay. He's the person who has been a constant in his little brother's life and if there is one person Jonathan knows, it's Will. He knew something was going on back at the rollerrink. And back in the van when Will was talking, Jonathan knew there was deeper meaning behind what he was saying. He also knew El did not have Will make that painting.

But Will calls himself a mistake. And it kills Jonathan because, at the very least in his eyes, Will is the best person in the world. Even if Will wasn't ready to come out, and Jonathan isn't the type of character to force it, he has to let Will know he's not a mistake, but he also can't directly say it because he risks Will shutting down. So he just emphasizes how much he loves him and how nothing would ever change that. He also tells Will that him smoking is not because of anything Will is doing, it's just him running away from his problems. He doesn't want Will to think that he is doing something wrong that is pushing Jonathan away.

Will is going to come out in his own time, but he's had his safety net reestablished. Jonathan and Joyce have been his only consistent safe places and they've both been dealing with their own things. Joyce with work and now raising another child who has a lot to learn and Jonathan is running away from his problems by smoking. While none of it was because of Will, he felt he was losing them and I'm glad Jonathan reminded Will that he would always be there. It's setting the story up for a more authentic and meaningful conversation among the two brothers where Will is going to tell Jonathan the truth and have a sense of security that Jonathan is still going to love him regardless. Jonathan wasn't forcing the conversation because Will feeling safe was the most important thing.

Peter definitely does. Emma knows him too well for him to be able to hide his emotions completely, so the truth usually comes out one way or another. Emma doesn't necessarily hide her emotions so much as dance around them.

12. Do they have many heated arguments? How do they smooth things over?

The first year after Emma learns Peter's secret identity are filled with tons of heated arguments, especially about each other's safety. Most of the time they buy each other a pizza and rent a movie to watch as an apology.

13. Who’s the bigger tease?

Peter. I can't explain it, I just know.

14. How do their personalities compliment each other? How do they clash?

Both Peter and Emma are workaholics who throw themselves into whatever they're doing with everything they've got, both are super willing to get involved in the justice system but not through traditional means, both care about the people they love, I think they mostly clash in terms of how to deal with trauma and when the other calls them out.

15. Do they always say 'i love you' before leaving?

Once they're together? 100%. When they leave the apartment, when they hang up on the phone, when they pass each other in the street, when they part ways after dates, when they go on missions, they love to say "I love you".

16. Can they stay up all night just talking?

Yep. Especially about their respective hyperfixations. Peter talks endlessly about physics and science while Emma dazzles him with journalism facts and the newest story she's pursuing.

17. Who's more likely to pull the other in by the waist and kiss them passionately?

Peter. 100%. He pulls the same move he did with Gwen and literally webs her closer to him.

18. How likely are they to have fur babies? How many and what kind?

Once they officially move into a bigger apartment together, they definitely adopt like a medium sized dog or cat but it probably doesn't go much further than that.

19. How do they feel about PDA?

They're not super into a ton of PDA, but they love to hold hands and hug in public. Maybe a few cheek kisses.

20. Choose one song that perfectly describes their relationship.

I mean...It's Chemicals React by Aly and AJ. "You make me feel out of my element" "Both of us broken, caught in the moment" it's just perfect for them
