On this Thanksgiving let us be thankful for over protective guard dog werewolf girlfriends
“You’re going to leave her, one way or another. So let’s skip to the end. Go back home and never come back. Hell, I’ll even pay for your travel expenses.”
Nadya silently held his gaze for a beat. Then she took off her glasses and packed her work into her bookbag. “Have a good day, Garret,” she said politely as she stood up.
When she turned to leave, she heard his chair scrape back as he shot to his feet. Then his hand grasped onto her upper arm hard enough to hurt. “I’m not done,” he snarled.
Nadya felt her blood run cold, but she summoned the bravery to face him.
“Let me go,” she said as firmly, but calmly as she could manage. Her hands trembled, terrified that the slightest edge in her tone would provoke an attack. “You’re hurting me.”
Garret’s grip only tightened with inhuman strength, causing Nadya to grunt in pain. It seemed that he wanted to spite her as well as frighten her. “You think you can just walk away from me?”
Nadya’s heart pounded against her ribcage. She was certain a purebred werewolf like Garret could sense exactly how afraid she was, but she held eye contact anyway, determined not to let it show. She no longer wanted to amuse him for the sake of peace, she only wanted to get as far away from him as possible.
“I think you need to let go of my arm.”
“You don’t get to tell me to do anythi—”
In the blink of an eye, an unforeseen hand clamped down on Garret’s wrist and wrenched it off of Nadya’s arm. Jayde had approached so swiftly and quietly that neither Nadya nor Garret noticed until she suddenly appeared between the two of them as if she had magically teleported. As soon as Nadya was free of his grip, Jayde slammed her arm into Garret with enough force to send him flying into a nearby table with a loud crash. The few patrons that relaxed in the Den turned their heads in unison at the commotion, but neither wolf paid them any attention.
Garret blinked at her in utter shock as he scrambled to his feet surrounded by toppled and broken furniture. Jayde placed herself directly in front of Nadya like a sentinel — shoulders squared, fists clenched, muscles as rigid as stone. If she were in her wolf form, her hackles would be raised and her fangs would be on full display. Nadya could picture it as clearly as she could picture the golden glow of her eyes despite how she faced away from her.
Once Garret regained his balance, his blue eyes shifted to the same shade of pale green that Nadya had seen in his mother’s wolf eyes, and he bared his teeth in a clear threat. “Have you lost your fucking mind?!”
“You’re lucky I don’t break your fucking neck,” Jayde snapped. She remained planted in front of the human protectively. Garret advanced aggressively towards them, but Jayde stood her ground and must have fixed him with an especially terrifying glare because — to Nadya’s surprise — he balked.
“Try it,” Jayde warned.
A tense moment passed between the two werewolves as the entire Den held its breath. Nadya wondered if she should be grateful they weren’t in their wolf forms, but if this brief altercation proved anything it was that a fight between werewolves will always be volatile and destructive. She worried she wouldn’t be able to stop it.
And then Garret backed down. “One day, I just might.”
Jayde tracked his every movement as skirted around the two of them, holding an arm out to shield Nadya further once he got closer to pass by. “You come anywhere near her again, I won’t have as much restraint as I did today.”
“Watch your back, Jayde,” he spat over her shoulder.
Nadya never minded how protective Jayde could be, especially when it came to someone like Garret, but there was something odd about how fiercely focused she was that set off alarms at the back of Nadya’s mind. Jayde did not shout, she did not move, she stood so directly in front of her human that Nadya had trouble seeing the encounter at all.
An anvil dropped in her gut when Nadya realized that Jayde genuinely feared for her life. Of course, Nadya never would have felt safe in Garret’s presence, but to see that distinct fear from someone who considered him and his siblings akin to family made her feel far more unsettled than she did moments earlier.
Jayde only relaxed once Garret disappeared from sight. She quickly turned to assess Nadya as they released sighs of relief at the same time.
“Are you okay?” she asked, one hand reaching up to cup Nadya’s face while the other gently brushed her arm where Garret had grabbed onto her. Nadya saw a brief flicker of gold as her irises shifted back to their normal blue.
She nodded, taking much needed solace in her touch. “I’m fine, Jay, it’s nothing.”
“It definitely wasn’t nothing.” Jayde casted a scornful glance over her shoulder at where Garret had left.
“Hey.” Nadya reached up and urged Jayde to look at her. “You really think he would have done anything to me? Here, in front of everyone? He just tried to scare me away and it didn’t work. I’m fine. Really.”
Jayde didn’t seem fully convinced. She frowned down at her arm again, still gently caressing the sore spot. “If this bruises, I’m gonna—”
“Do nothing,” Nadya finished for her, angling her head to catch her gaze again, “because he isn’t worth any trouble.”
Jayde took in a long breath and released it slowly, letting go of the rest of her anger. At least for the moment. Only then did she finally nod. “Fine. Come on, I need a drink.”

Revisiting some old writing again. This takes place fairly early on in the story. Warning for depictions of PTSD and a panic attack.
Jayde realized too late that she didn’t drink enough.
The werewolf has slept in far worse places than the musty motel bed, but her troublesome mind kept her from getting a peaceful rest. Unconsciousness came and faded away like swelling tides. It kept her suspended in just enough sleep to rejuvenate the more exhausted muscles in her sore body, but did little to salvage the emotional drain from the past few weeks. She could live with that. As long as her body worked, she could keep going.
But then real sleep consumed her. And the dreams started.
Jayde found herself on the lonely narrow road again.
To her left, a wall of rock carved out of the mountain face. To her right, a steep drop into a forest soaked in darkness. A bright moon peeked over the pine trees and illuminated the curved path ahead of her. Like a beacon. Like the hope she knew was fleeting.
Despite being the only soul in sight, Jayde knew she was in complete and utter danger. She felt it in her bones. Her heart pounded so hard inside of her chest that the ground beneath her feet became unsteady.
With a choked gasp, Jayde forced herself to run forward. She sprinted with all the strength she had, but matter how hard she pushed herself, it wasn’t fast enough. She simply could not reach the end of the curve. But she ran anyway.
When she thought her lungs would burst from the effort, Jayde paused and hunched over to catch her breath.
The silver light glared down at her in a silent command to keep going. Her muscles ached. Her bones hurt. Her teeth were on edge. Jayde directed her pleading gaze up towards the broad, bright face of the full moon above.
She blinked and suddenly the light turned so incredibly bright and artificial that it blinded her. She held up a hand to shield her eyes, but it didn’t stop the burning sensation to her retinas. A dull buzzing sound rang in her ears. The acrid scent of disinfectant left an awful taste in her mouth. The terror that tightened her chest only increased. Every single one of her limbs were paralyzed by it. She couldn’t scream. She couldn’t cry. She could only fall to her knees and pray for this to be over quickly.
It was never over quickly.
She felt the cold barrel of a gun pressed into the back of her neck. Heard the click of the weapon being cocked.
“Such a shame,” a disembodied voice chided.
Consciousness slammed into Jayde more violently than a truck. She launched herself out of the bed and rushed to the bathroom, sweat dripping down her back as sickness crept up her throat. She made it to the toilet just in time to expel the meager contents of her stomach. Jayde choked and gasped and spit up the horridness that twisted itself inside of her. This was a fight she could never win. Not even on her best day.
Sometimes you just have to let things fuck you up.
After a few minutes, Jayde ran a trembling hand through her sweat-damp hair and slumped against the wall. Her pulse still raced and her chest still heaved, but she shut her eyes and focused on regaining control.
“Fuck,” she whimpered as she felt a few stray tears stream down her face. The word echoed pathetically in the tiny bathroom. “God, I hate this shit.”
Her leg tapped relentlessly, but the sensation of falling into an endless pit wouldn’t go away. Her stomach flipped and the world spun and nothing within reach would anchor her.
With a furious growl, Jayde pushed herself up and went to the sink. She turned the freezing water on and cupped her hands to gather as much of it as I could. The shock to her system once she splashed it in her face gave some relief, but her body temperature quickly burned the cold away. She desperately splashed herself again and again.
I’m stronger than this, Jayde thought.
Silently, she gripped the counter and watched the droplets of water from her face and hair fall back into the sink. They trickled down the drain to join the unsteady stream sputtering out of the old faucet. It reminded her of rain – of the calm mornings she spent by the window in Nadya’s apartment. When she sipped coffee while the human did school work on the couch. The memory of her scent came into Jayde’s mind. Autumn spices as warm and sweet as the look in her eyes. A voice as soft as the touch from her hand.
Gradually, her pounding pulse calmed. Her erratic breathing evened out.
Jayde risked a glance in the mirror and caught a visage she was all too familiar with – messy blonde hair, dark circles under her eyes, faded cuts and bruises. But she noticed something different this time. The hint of a smile softened the harsh expression she nearly always wore. Jayde looked almost… wistful in her reflection. She shook her head at the ridiculous thought and dried herself off.
Most of the motel room was shrouded in darkness apart from an orange glow of the street lamps that cut through the blinds. Jayde didn’t bother with the lightswitch. The clock on the nightstand told her dawn would approach in less than an hour. Might as well beat it to the punch.
The worn out werewolf threw on some clean clothes, freshened up in the bathroom and unceremoniously shoved whatever she had lying around back into her bag. The shitty motel room outlived its usefulness. So did the zip code.
As she did one last sweep of the room to make sure she hadn’t forgotten anything, Skye’s burner phone rang from her back pocket. It seemed a little early for her to call, but Jayde quickly answered without looking. “Have you been up all night on that damn computer again?”
The voice that replied definitely did not belong to her younger sister. And it sounded more frightened than she ever wanted to hear it. “Jayde?”

— OC FAMILIARS
tagged by @lilywatt @socially-awkward-skeleton @cassietrn and @g0dspeeed to take this quiz for some of my ocs to find out what their animal familiars are! Thank you 💕🎃🦇
Tumblr media
CROW
The Crow is a very interesting, complex familiar to have, and seems to have a lot of personality to its behavior. Though it is seen by some as representing evil, it is in fact a sign of luck as well, either good or bad, and is strongly tied with magic as well. Despite its worse side of its reputation, it is not a trickster, but in fact very wise and adaptable. In the same way, you are a very intelligent and creative individual, though you may be misunderstood by your peers.
The Crow familiar brings good luck to their master, acts as a mentor or guidance to them, and inspires them with bright and creative ideas.
This Familiar Represents: CREATIVITY / CLOSENESS TO MAGIC / LUCK / INTELLIGENCE / WISDOM / ADAPTABILITY / BEING MISUNDERSTOOD
Tumblr media
TIGER
The Tiger, though very, very powerful, is a dangerous, mysterious, and unpredictable familiar. They are often the companion of one who has strong feelings of vengeance or hate to another person. However, you are most likely very independent and sure of who you are, and strive to be yourself and not conform to others. You are pushed through even the toughest of situations through willpower and wise decisions, if you are able to keep your feelings of anger in check.
A Tiger familiar is a very strong, vicious partner in battle, helps their master through mental stress, and gives them the will to continue on.
This Familiar Represents: SHADOWS / WILLPOWER / ANGER / UNPREDICTABILITY / MYSTERY / WISDOM
Tumblr media
DOMESTIC CAT
Being a very curious and clever familiar, the Cat is well-known for its personality and tendency to get into trouble. However, it rarely has any bad intentions, being an adventurous and ever-curious animal. Along with its spirit of adventure, the Cat also represents knowing one's limits and being sure of themselves, and never question who they truly are. Similar also to the cat, though you are friendly to others, you would much prefer to be independent and in a quiet place instead of in a group.
The Cat familiar has a tendency to pull their master into adventures or exploring. They are also somewhat tied to magic.
This Familiar Represents: CURIOSITY / ADVENTUROUS SPIRIT / UNIQUE PERSONALITY / INDEPENDENCE / PLAYFULNESS / KNOWING WHO YOU ARE / MAGIC
Tumblr media
GRIZZLY BEAR
A Grizzly Bear undeniably represents the power of nature, closeness to the earth, and the heart of a brave, persevering warrior. At times, they can seem calm and stable. However, if one hurts them or their cubs, they will fight with some of the greatest ferocity of any animal on earth. In the same way, you will fight until the very end to protect those close to you. However, despite your toughness, you are actually a very soft-hearted, peaceful individual inside.
A Bear familiar is an excellent companion in battle, will loyally protect their master, and fills them with bravery when they need it the most.
This Familiar Represents: PROTECTION / POWER / COURAGE / FREEDOM / UNPREDICTABILITY / FEROCITY

— RIDING OUT THE STORM
rating: Mature word count: 2.6k warnings: slightly sexual descriptions, insecurities about sexual intimacy tags: first person pov, early relationship fluff, comfort, communication and boundaries, they’re a healthy couple
summary: reposted prompt from a few years ago that I felt fit for a cozy October - [ SECLUDED ] our muses are on a road trip and are forced to pull over due to heavy rain and fog, they end up fooling around in the car while they wait for it to clear up.
A powerful and unpredictable wind swirled around the car with a vengeance, threatening to force us off the road if I made a single error. Rain fell in sheets so thick that I could barely see further than a few yards ahead, even with help from the headlights and the screech of the overworked windshield wipers. I checked our speed and the needle ticked back and forth over the thirty mark, but the sheer power of the storm made it feel as if we flew through a hurricane. It’s a wonder that our poor old Bronco hadn’t been torn to shreds yet. My hands gripped the steering wheel so hard at the thought that my knuckles turned white.
Of course we were the only ones dumb enough to be on the highway in this kind of weather. It was either a gun at our backs or the wrath of God head on.
“Uh…” I started, sounding distracted as I kept most of my focus on driving. “Remember that time when you said I looked happy driving in the rain? This isn’t exactly what does it for me.”
Jayde scoffed in the passenger seat, looking about as nervous as I felt. Her muscles were coiled so tightly that she had barely moved an inch since the weather got intense. “You wanna switch?”
The tires skidded on the wet asphalt after a particularly heavy gust. My heart leapt into my throat, but I maintained control of the car. “Um, actually, I was thinking maybe we should just park it somewhere.”
“I don’t think that’s a good idea.” I saw Jayde shake her head out of the corner of my eye. “We’ll find a motel eventually.”
“It’s getting dark,” I pointed out.
“Then let me drive.”
“Supernatural night vision isn’t gonna help you with all this fog.”
She leaned forward and squinted out of the windshield. After a few moments, she grumbled to herself and sat back in her seat. “Maybe you’re right.”
“We’ll set up the back and just ride out the storm for tonight. It’ll be like camping,” I offered with a strained smile.
That made her hum pleasantly as she considered the idea for a moment. “Alright, you sold me.”
I beamed, letting some of the anxiety flow off my shoulders with a relieved sigh. Then the car shuddered, wind howling through the windows, and my spine straightened once more. “Keep an eye out while I make sure we don’t die.”
“Thank God we got new tires…” Jayde mumbled.
I said a silent prayer for that, too.
We soon found a large canopy of low hanging trees that served as the perfect shelter just off the side of the highway. The added cover hid us from any other cars that might drive by. Or any potential dangers that could be on our trail. Though the wild storm would make pursuit difficult on its own. I felt safe in our little sanctuary.
Jayde and I worked together to set the car up for an impromptu overnight stay. We put the back seats down and padded it with sleeping bags, blankets, and pillows – all while going out to brave the torrent of rain a couple of times. Our combined efforts rewarded us with a rather impressive nest cozy enough to keep us comfortable and happy until the weather calmed.
Satisfied, I kicked my muddy hiking boots off onto the floor at the front of the car and prepared to curl up beside my hearth of a werewolf.
Jayde already sprawled herself out. She propped her head up on one hand and watched as I got my side of the car all situated to my liking. I tried to ignore the amused smirk at the corner of her mouth while I made sure I had whatever I might need within reach, but then she remarked “You know when a dog walks around in, like, a dozen circles before it finally lays down? That’s what you remind me of right now.”
I threw her a playful glare. “Make fun of me all you want, but when you’re in the perfect position and then realize you forgot something, I’m not gonna get up and grab it for you.”
Her smirk widened into a grin. “I have everything I need.”
Ridiculous, I thought as I rolled my eyes at her flirtatious tone and quietly laughed. I turned my attention to last minute checks. “Alright, I have my water bottle, book, glasses, snacks… what else am I missing…?” I brushed my rain-damp hair back as I searched around the car. Then it clicked. “Oh! Book light.”
“You’re so beautiful when you do that,” Jayde mused.
A warm flush came across my cheeks, but I still fixed her with a quizzical stare as I dug through my bag. “Do what? Forget things?”
“No,” she laughed. “Well, yeah, that’s cute too, but I meant whenever you run a hand through your hair like that.”
Even though I thought the very same thing about her, I shook my head at the trivial observation and sat beside her after I fished out the little light. “You make it sound like I don’t even have to try with you.”
“You don’t,” Jayde answered without hesitation. She reached out and took my hand in hers. The soft stroke of her thumb across my knuckles caused my breath to stutter. “Not at all.”
My eyes were transfixed on the movement of her fingers, but once I finally met her gaze, I felt my blush grow even hotter. I learned to understand exactly what that piercing intensity in her midnight eyes meant. I recognized her desire for me as a marching pulse in my own veins. It drew me nearer. It made my insides flutter so frantically that I felt a keen ache. And I knew that ache was for her. Just as her captivating expression was for me.
The only sound came from the storm pelting heavy raindrops against the roof of the car. Everything else felt so still.
I leaned down at the same time Jayde released my hand to cup the back of my neck. The heat of her lips enveloped me in safety and comfort — as if to protect me from the cold rage of the storm outside. I immediately parted mine in a silent beckon to experience more. A sweet, clipped breath flowed into my mouth, and she quickly put me on my back. With her weight settled on top of me, I released a satisfied sigh that drew out into a subtle moan.
The cadence of our kisses grew passionate. Every stroke of her lips felt warmer than the last. Every brush from her tongue, more eager. I could tell Jayde got lost in the sensations. I got entirely lost in them, myself. Hungry hands ran through the golden, rain-soaked tangles of her hair or caressed up and down her back as she shifted against me. I didn’t mind feeling the way her body moved in the slightest. In fact, I encouraged it.
We hadn’t gotten this intense since the night of our first date. By now, I would have slowed things down. Anxiety had a way of creeping in during intimate moments. It would whisper horrible things in my ear and strike down the confidence I slowly built up. At the back of my mind, I faintly heard those whispers. I briefly wondered if I should be concerned about them, but something bloomed inside of me, and I pushed those thoughts away.
Not this time.
Without giving myself a second to overthink it, I flipped our bodies over, and straddled Jayde. She chuckled smoothly in between kisses. “Trying something new?”
I hummed with a nod, too intoxicated to open my eyes. “Is that okay with you?”
“I’m following your lead.”
I smiled before I resumed our kisses, then pulled the both of us up into a sitting position. Jayde’s hands gripped my waist to hold me as close to her as possible. The strength and warmth I felt in her palms only increased the desire that flooded my chest. I suddenly wanted her to touch me in ways she hadn’t before.
I let my instincts takeover and reached down to wrap my fingers around Jayde’s wrist. With uneven breaths breaking free from my lungs, I slowly guided her hand upwards. Her fingers twitched against the curve of my side, bunching up the fabric of my sweater and hiking it up inch by inch. A sharp bite of chilly air brought a wave of goosebumps across my exposed skin, but I didn’t let that stop me. Not until the warmth of her palm flushed against my chest.
We both froze at the same time. Jayde’s breath caught in her throat and her lips remained parted against my mouth. The moment of hesitation allowed uncertainty to trickle through the cracks, but I was determined to ignore it. I will not be afraid of this. I will not let my fears stop me from experiencing everything I fantasized about. Jayde was safe. Jayde will always be safe.
I broke the tension by urging her with a delicate kiss. It seemed to pull her out of whatever stupor I had thrown her in and an unsteady exhale reminded me of the untamed wind outside. Jayde kissed me deeper at the same time her hand gave a gentle squeeze. It set my nerve endings alight. My fingers laced with hers to keep her touch right where it was. Invisible sparks raced from my fingertips all the way up my neck. I thought if we could see them, they’d light up the whole sky. Jayde seemed to drink that energy in. Her tongue graced mine and her taste ignited me from within even more.
Her electrified lips only left mine to glide over the sensitive skin along my neck. The sensation crackled up my spine with enough intensity to make me shiver. I released a whimper beyond my control and fretfully pulled Jayde against me to get impossibly closer.
She sucked in a sharp breath through her teeth. “You should stop me.”
“Why?” I asked dismissively.
“Your heart is racing, Nadya.”
I caressed the back of her neck. “Isn’t that what it’s supposed to do?”
She slowly pulled away to meet my eyes. “Not like this.”
With the absence of her touch, I realized my hands were completely numb and tingled with a thousand pin pricks in the tips of my fingers. The way they would whenever I felt terrified. My mind lurched from disorientation as I realized how carried away I had gotten in my own attempt to push past my insecurities. Embarrassment flooded my chest and up my neck. I shook my head at myself and took a few moments to regain breath. She was right.
“I want you,” I muttered regretfully.
“And you’ll have me,” Jayde softly assured. Her hand came up to brush a thumb along my bottom lip. “When you’re ready. Don’t force yourself to be ready.”
I sighed breathlessly and rested my forehead against hers. A smile, warm and grateful, found its way across my lips. Just like that, my body eased back into her arms. The familiar feeling of refuge that she gave me settled deep into my bones. The next sigh to escape my lungs was one of relief.
Jayde is safe. Jayde is always safe, my thoughts repeated like a mantra.
The rain had calmed for a few minutes, but then returned with a vengeance. Droplets from the trees were so heavy that I could have mistaken them for hale as they bombarded our car. The whole frame rocked from the harsh winds. A darkness so black and all-consuming made the outside world impossible to perceive through the fogged up windows. All of this, yet there wasn’t a single place I would rather be.
Is this what falling feels like?
I licked my lips and could still taste what lingered of her. “You know… we don’t… have to stop completely.”
“We don’t,” Jayde agreed.
I grinned again. “It’s not like we’ll get much sleep with all this racket anyway.”
She snorted and leaned back to quirk a brow. “‘Racket’? What are you, eighty?”
I scoffed in offense. “What's wrong with 'Racket'? It’s a perfectly good word!” Her snicker made me laugh in exasperation. “Oh my god, forget it.”
Amused by my playful irritation, Jayde flipped us over to pin me beneath her. She buried her face in the crook of my neck and gave me feather-light kisses that made me squirm. “Oh, baby, you know how your robust vocabulary turns me on.”
“I knew dedicating myself to a higher education would make women fall at my feet,” I remarked in between giggles.
“Take me, Doctor Bishop, I’m yours,” she said dramatically and then poked the ticklish spot on my side.
My entire body jerked away from her hand and squealed laughter escaped my chest. “Stop that! You can’t play dirty!”
“Oh, I can play however–” Jayde gave me a quick peck “I–” and another “want.”
The third time she kissed me, I tangled a hand through her hair to keep her there. My lips teased hers with soft strokes. I parted them just enough to let her feel my breath, but made sure not to deepen the kiss beyond that. When she leaned in for more, I gave her hair a gentle tug to hold her back. The thrill I felt when her muscles stiffened made me smile deviously.
A wolf-like chuckle reached my ears. “Now who’s playing dirty?”
“Show me your eyes,” I whispered. “And I’ll let you kiss me for real.”
We kept one lantern on a hook and the lowlight shrouded half of her face in shadow. Jayde’s features looked even more angular, the lines of some of her scars accentuating the sharpness that could come off intimidating to some. The midnight blue of her eyes soaked up the darkness. I could barely discern the dilated pupils that focused down on me.
Then, with a shimmer of flame, the fibers of her irises ignited into a deep molten gold. Her skin flared hotter as I stared awestruck into her enthralling, inhuman gaze. The sight excited me just as much as the very first time she revealed herself.
“Amazing,” I breathed.
Jayde’s voice adopted the huskier cadence it did whenever her wolf was near. “Can I kiss you?”
I didn’t bother with a verbal answer, I simply pulled her down. My fervent cadence invited nothing but indulgence. Jayde answered with a perfect match in pace. Our lips moved together as if they were made for exactly this. She was soft and warm and sweet with just enough intensity to cause the same feeling in my veins as before. Only this time, it wasn’t too much. I felt my chest gently bloom like an oncoming sunrise, comforting me from the inside out. I wanted to be consumed by that internal light.
“I –” Jayde stuttered as she broke away.
Her golden eyes blinked in uncertainty and I became concerned as she struggled to find words. “What is it?”
“Nothing, I just…” She bit her lip. I couldn’t tell if the blush across her cheeks was from her wolf or something else. “I really like this. Being with you.”
My smile grew so broad that it hurt. I cupped the side of her face and traced the nearest scar with my thumb. “I really like this, too, Jay.”
Jayde’s grin matched mine and she nuzzled herself against me. I happily wrapped my arms around her and closed my eyes, letting her body heat encompass me. I breathed in the scents of pine and damp earth on her skin – of campfire smoke in her hair, and the peace that came with it all washed over me as the storm raged on around us.

not technically a wip im currently working on but i did want to post one of the funniest things Nadya has said
"You know, working out can be considered a hobby. I get the impression you have a pretty intense routine," Nadya tried once they neared the end of the trail. Yet another chuckle came out of Jayde’s mouth at what Nadya thought was a simple remark. She began to think Jayde understood a joke that kept going over her head. "Do I keep saying something funny?"
Jayde’s gaze suddenly snapped in her direction, seemingly caught off guard by the fact that she noticed the recurring amusement. It could have been the cold, but Nadya noticed the bright flush on her cheeks. "Oh, um, no. Sorry, I didn't realize I was..."
"Then what is it?"
"You just surprise me is all," Jayde murmured. Her tone turned so soft that Nadya’s lingering unease completely vanished. "I don't really spend a lot of time with people like you."
Nadya narrowed her eyes and cocked her brow. "What, gay people?"

occupational hazard when you medically treat werewolves :/
A downside to domesticity that she hadn't anticipated – at least for a clingy werewolf such as Jayde – is when two work schedules fall out of sync.
In the beginning, wolves that frequented The Lodge either avoided the revived clinic or circled it and its new, very human addition with a hearty dose of trepidation. Many preferred to stubbornly let their wounds heal on their own – Jayde having been one of them for years until she met Nadya and her very effective methods of convincing injured werewolves to accept treatment. It took time for the clinic to gain any momentum. Jayde selfishly couldn’t bring herself to mind. Not when she got to see her human as often as she liked.
Once Nadya proved her competency and mettle in the face of willing and stubborn werewolves alike, she started to receive patients more frequently. When the full moon drew near, she would only see their bed long enough to collapse into it.
Jayde had patrols before dawn that would keep her away until noon at the earliest, which used to work out just fine. She grew accustomed to the routine of returning home, showering, then grabbing lunch for her and Nadya.
It had been several long days since either enjoyed that time together. With another full moon on the horizon, many flocked towards The Lodge to shift in safety and peace. Though, it could be a perilous journey in a world full of hunters. Several had been attacked already and Jayde wondered if Nadya had any time for a proper meal at all. The box of protein bars stashed in her desk lay empty as her only answer.
They both agreed not to sacrifice their usual dinner on a full moon night, at least. Jayde loved those dates the most, where her especially heightened senses let her drink up every intoxicating drop of her beloved human before she disappeared into the forest. Nadya enjoyed seeing the werewolf off. She would kiss her forehead goodbye, tell her to be safe and have fun. Jayde couldn’t wait.
In fact, she quite literally counted down the minutes.
The full moon made her jittery. Jayde felt like her cells vibrated as the whole world buzzed with nearly overwhelming clarity around her. What she needed was a long run tonight, though her loudest desires could have fooled her base animalistic instincts.
More than anything else, she wanted Nadya. Her thoughts constantly drifted to her, causing her to check the clock every few minutes despite the fact she purposefully occupied her restless body in the gym. It helped to let some of the wild energy out of her body before she turned, but focusing on anything else proved futile.
Almost time…
Nadya’s shift ended soon and she would head to their room first. Jayde intended to be there waiting for her when she arrived. The wolf under her skin stirred impatiently, none too happy that the human hadn’t been within her line of sight all day.
Then finally, finally the clock displayed the time Jayde had been waiting for. She quickly ripped her hand wraps off and made a beeline for home.
Nadya must have gotten off work slightly earlier, because she was already at their door once Jayde rounded the corner. The wolf couldn’t bring herself to care, her entire body sang at the sight of her love. She grinned in relief and picked up her pace.
“Hi, Jay,” Nadya greeted with a light laugh as Jayde scooped her up into her arms and lifted her off her feet. She spun her around before she set her back down just to hear that laugh in her ears again.
“God, I missed you.” Her reply was muffled as she buried her face in the crook of Nadya’s neck and inhaled deeply. Scents of strange wolves clung to her girlfriend’s skin and clothes, but underneath all of it was still her — an intoxicating mix of warm autumn spices that always calmed the restlessness in Jayde’s chest.
“I missed you, too,” Nadya said and simply hugged her back just as tightly for a few prolonged moments of peace. Then Jayde sensed a subtle shift. A slight tense in the girl’s muscles. The scent of anxiety. “There’s something you should know, by the way.”
At the nervous change in her tone, Jayde slowly disentangled herself from her and caressed down Nadya’s sides in reassurance. When she gave her waist a gentle squeeze, Nadya flinched and failed to hold back a pained groan. Jayde immediately snatched her hands away and froze with a scowl, not understanding how she had accidentally hurt her.
“What the hell?”
Nadya grimaced apologetically. “I was just about to tell you —”
“Who?” Jayde asked with a sudden furious, animalistic growl rumbling its way up from her chest. The expression on Nadya’s face confirmed what she always dreaded — that some wolf in The Lodge harmed her precious human. “I want a name.”
“Jayde,” Nadya said in a calm, but firm tone. “No. Come inside, let me explain.”
The rage burning like an inferno within her forced Jayde to clench her jaw and grind her teeth, but she followed Nadya into their room obediently. “I won’t allow any violence here, you know that. And I’m sure as fuck not just going to let it go when someone put their hands on you.”
Nadya sighed and closed the door behind them. “It was an accident.”
“An accident,” Jayde parroted incredulously.
“Yes. I was treating a patient yesterday who was in a lot of pain and I’m sure the full moon didn’t help the situation. I didn’t get out of the way in time and she pushed me into the edge of a table. That’s it. End of story.”
“End of story?” Jayde crossed her arms and raised a brow as she nodded towards Nadya’s midsection.
Nadya fixed her with a leveled stare. “It’s a bruise. I’ll live.”
“And why didn’t someone come and get me?”
“Because it was over before it started, Jayde, not some rabid dog running loose in the clinic.”
The intense frown still remained, but Jayde dropped her gaze to the floor as her anger slowly faded. Perhaps she had been overreacting. Or perhaps she should trust Nadya like she always has. If there truly had been someone dangerous, Jayde had no doubt her girlfriend would have sent for her without question. It was just hard to think clearly when Nadya had been hurt at all. She was right, the full moon definitely didn’t help the situation for anyone. If this had occurred a couple of weeks ago, Jayde doubted she’d want to go on such a warpath.
After a deep centering breath, she met Nadya’s gaze again. “Can I see?”
“Yeah.” Nadya softened at the humble request and removed her jacket, the warmth in her soft brown eyes bringing all the assurance Jayde would ever truly need. “Of course.
Jayde sat down on the edge of the bed as Nadya came to a stop before her. She placed her hands on her hips and carefully pulled the hem of her shirt up to expose her left side. A large dark purple and yellow splotch appeared just above her hip and wrapped around to her lower back. The sight of it stole the breath from Jayde’s lungs and made her heart jump into her throat. It was no wonder Nadya had flinched like she did when Jayde barely touched her.
Jayde delicately brushed her fingers over the mark, careful not to apply any pressure, and tried not to feel sick at the thought of seeing it for weeks before it fully healed. “Nadya, I don’t want you treating wolves this close to the full moon anymore.”
“This is the first time something like this has happened,” she pointed out as she ran a reassuring hand through Jayde’s wild blonde tangles.
The wolf forced her eyes away from the bruise to look up at her. “You can’t promise it’ll be the last, though. What if it’s a bite next time?”
Nadya pursed her lips in a quiet moment of thought. Jayde supposed that possibility hadn’t occurred to her, and she clearly struggled to deny it. Nadya looked away and sighed again. Jayde patiently waited for her gaze to return to hers.
Her warm brown eyes finally met Jayde’s midnight blue ones once more. “I’ll step back from the clinic around full moons. Unless I’m really needed.”
“Will you let me be there when you are, then? Just in case.”
The corner of her mouth perked up. “People don’t typically go to a clinic to get more injuries –”
“Nadya,” Jayde urged.
“You can be there,” she answered and held up an index finger. “But only to hold someone back when and if it’s necessary, understand? No fights.”
“No fights,” Jayde agreed with a firm shake of her head. “Scout’s honor or whatever.”
Nadya smiled sweetly – the type of smile that would send anyone to their knees. Jayde knew she would obey her terms without question.
How does she do that? her thoughts echoed.
Instead of letting her shirt fall back down, Nadya deftly pulled it over her head and confidently straddled the werewolf. A quiet growl of a completely different sort involuntarily escaped Jayde’s throat as the human settled herself onto her lap. The simple action awakened the being within and Jayde felt her eyes ignite into a soft golden glow as her wolf rose to the surface with a swell of heat in her veins. Nadya’s smile turned to a satisfied grin as she rested her forearms on Jayde’s shoulders to play with her hair.
“You think this will make me feel better about it?” Jayde remarked, playfully squeezing the girl’s thighs and loving how her legs hugged her body tighter.
She nodded. “Oh, I know it will. Just like it’ll make me feel better, too.”

— WHAT KIND OF LOVE ARE YOU?
I was tagged by @katsigian @theelderhazelnut @adelaidedrubman and @rhettsabbott to take this uquiz! Thank you beloveds!!
Tumblr media
LOVE AS A FORCE OF NATURE
Your love is like whiplash -- it comes in with the rain, it blows the doors wide open. When you fall in love, it is sudden and hard and immense. It is powerful. It is earthshaking and world-ending. Nature is a force, and that force can be destructive if you're not careful. See how the world is doused in gasoline and set on fire -- your love consumes, your love takes, your love burns. You're hot and cold all at once, a hurricane and a wildfire bound together in skin, and when you're in love, it can feel like it's eating you alive from the inside out. When you love, it is with everything you have because it is everything you have. Be careful, darling, because not everyone survives the storm.
Tumblr media
LOVE AS RELIGION
Devotion, that is the name of your love. Your love is an act of worship. Your love is like witnessing the birth of Venus, like seeing the sun come alive, or the stars fall. When you love, it is because you have found God in a lover. You have found the meaning of life itself in the heart of the one you adore. They are everything to you; they are your Maker, and you are their lamb, their flock, their first and holiest worshipper. When you fall in love, it is as a baptism. You are born anew, made a believer in the divinity of the one you love most. Being loved by you is an ascension; it is holy and golden. It is all-consuming, and all-faithful, loyal as the dog. You will never, ever bite back.
Tumblr media
LOVE AS A THRESHOLD
Your love does not ask for much. Your love does not take. Your love is free, and unquestioned, and here for wherever needs it. When you fall in love, it is as gentle as a breath in the night. It is quiet, and it is effortless. It is tender. If your love was a house, it would readily welcome all who come through. If your love was a hearth, it would warm the hands of whoever stopped by, whether for a day, a month, a year, or forever. When you fall for someone, it is without strings, without conditions, without need. You love for the sake of loving, for the sake of caring for those who need it. You love with a giver's heart and a giver's hands and are made so much stronger for it. Being loved by you is to always feel at home. Your love may not always be well-received by those unprepared to Linger, but it is unforgettable all the same.

WHO’S AFRAID OF THE BIG BAD WOLF? — Jayde Thatcher (original works)
"Some of us are monsters. Just like some humans." Nadya felt compelled to ask a strange question. "Do you think you're one of them, Jayde?" The human held her breath at the sudden intensity of Jayde's stare. That expression looked so unreadable - so unknowable - but she couldn't look away. Nothing about it felt human, yet everything about it drew Nadya in and kept her suspended in a state of wonder. "I'm not interested in being a monster to people like you."

— 15 LINES OR LESS
I was tagged by @voidika @corvosattano and @kyber-infinitygems thank you!!! 💕💕💕
tag list (ask to be added or removed!): @adelaidedrubman @florbelles @marivenah @simonxriley @inafieldofdaisies @socially-awkward-skeleton @aceghosts @carlosoliveiraa @risingsh0t @unholymilf @thedeadthree @cassietrn @jackiesarch @gwynbleidd @shellibisshe @loriane-elmuerto @katsigian @captastra @simplegenius042 @theelderhazelnut @g0dspeeed
RULES: share 15 or fewer lines of dialogue from an OC, ideally lines that capture their character/personality/vibe. Bonus points for just using dialogue without other details about the scene, but you’re free to include those as well.
Tumblr media
“Well, I’ve fucked myself,”
“You really want a werewolf fugitive in your home for longer than necessary? I take it back, you are an idiot,”
“Ivan gave me the authority to remove individuals who display violence on these grounds unprovoked. Which means I get to tell you to promptly fuck off.”
“Others will test me no matter what. They already have, actually. I think I make my point pretty damn clear, so I sure as shit ain’t gonna go and fill out a questionnaire with my personal information like I’m at a werewolf DMV.”
“Like I’d ever let you eat something out of a can.”
“You come anywhere near her again, I won’t have as much restraint as I did today.”
“If he thinks that just because you’re the only one I won’t immediately clock that I’ll actually listen to what you have to say, he’s got another thing coming.”
“You are not my alpha… You never were and you never will be. I don't have an alpha.”
“I was afraid to die because I didn’t want you to remember me as an almost. I didn’t want you to look back and think ‘she almost loved me’, because I do love you. I love you more than I thought I could ever love anyone. And the thought of me dying without you knowing that was too much for me to take.”
She halted by the bar for a second, pointing at Toby and slurring “You owe me…” her brows suddenly furrowed. “Shit, I didn’t do this for any money, did I?”
Jayde cleared her throat. “Listen, Nick,” she started and downed her entire glass of whiskey like it was water. // “It’s Patrick,” he corrected with a scowl. // She shrugged. “Eh, I knew it ended in an ‘ick’.”
Jayde scooped the kitten up and he flopped around in her grip like a ragdoll, trying to gnaw on her fingers. She held him up and tilted him this way and that, her brow furrowed in deep thought. Then she plopped the kitten back down on the bed and looked at Nadya with resolution. “Greg.”
Bonus Nadya Lines!
Tumblr media
“I can imagine you’re here because of something bad… But it’s not my job to judge you. It’s my job to help you. And I want to help you, but it’s kind of hard to do that if you won’t at least talk to me.”
“Can’t we just… I don’t know, act like we aren’t doing anything wrong? I mean, that’s how you get away with shoplifting.” Jayde stared questioningly at her. Nadya’s face flushed once again. “N-not that I shoplift, I was just watching a petty crime documentary one night –”
“Did I ever tell you the way you set up a campsite is sexy?”
