Deserted (Reader x Natasha Romanoff)
Warnings: Language
Word count: 1.6k+
Prompts: 39. You don’t just leave your best friend like that + 71. I can’t remember what you feel like and I’m honestly happy and sad about it.
Natasha had been alone most of her life. Of course she had her teammates, but even they had their own family and friends, people outside of the assembly of superheroes. While she had no one. It was a fact that she had come to terms with. That was until the reverse blip -or as the world likes to call it “The Endgame”- when she truly realized how lonely she really was. That moment where she lost her best friend of years and fought almost to her death to bring back people’s loved ones only to realize she had no one to welcome and no one to come back home to.
Then she noticed that she hadn’t been able to stop thinking about you. Not that you ever really left her mind but lately the thought of you had been more constant. If Natasha believed in fate she would think it was fate that forced your image onto every second of her waking being since after the reversed blip and the torturing sense of lonesomeness had hit her. Just like how fate put the two most skilled assassins the industry has ever seen to kill the same target.
Well it was more of the different organizations you two were under that put you on a mission to eliminate the target and any witnesses, no less. Being the loyal assassins you both were, Natasha and you fought each other on sight. However the two of you were so equally skilled that it ended with both parties being badly injured yet not quite dead. That was when you suggested a truce which Natasha agreed upon.
Whether it be dumb luck or because the business of assassins was not very large, that was not the last time you and Natasha had crossed paths. Eventually you two started hanging out in an environment where neither of you were ordered to kill and that was how you became acquaintances which led to being friends and something more than friends but not quite lovers.

Deserted (Reader x Natasha Romanoff)

Then she noticed that she hadn't been able to stop thinking about you.
When Clint Barton was sent to kill her and almost succeeded, Natasha was faced with a life or death choice that she had to make on the spot. She did what she had to do but that meant she couldn't say goodbye to you. Natasha had always wondered if you were going to look for her. You didn't -or maybe you did, afterall all anyone had to do to find her was watch the news or search her name up on the internet.
Yet all of this still led to the present time where Natasha had been tailing you for almost three hours throughout your routine. She was not sure if you really had not noticed her presence or were just pretending like you weren’t -she knew the latter was more possible. When you entered your studio apartment after your morning run, Natasha decided it was time for her to confront her fear and actually talk to you. Before she could get a knock, however, she noticed the door was slightly ajar. She hesitated before gingerly pushing the door open, it's hinges giving out a soft creak in their place.
"Nice of you to finally join me." Your voice fell on Natasha's ears. Your tone was cold and it ran a chill through the redhead's spine.
She was quiet, not sure of what to do. Suddenly all the things she had planned to say fell out of the window when she saw you. Your hair was slightly messed up and your skin was glistening with sweat. Once upon a time long ago, it was a sight familiar to Natasha's eyes.
"What is it that you want, Romanoff?" You finally turned to face the woman. Your face was stoic with no signs of emotions, your stance tight and ready to fight. Natasha took notice of your dominant hand just ever so slightly reaching out to one of your cabinets -it's probably where you keep your weapons, she realized. Natasha had her own gun strapped on to its holster under her jacket but she wasn't planning on using it, under any circumstances, not on you.
"I just want to talk." Natasha finally gathered the courage to speak.
"Talk?" You chuckled humorlessly. "Yeah, sure, it's extremely long overdue but let's talk shall we? Maybe I should brew some tea and make some cookies too. Would you like that, Romanoff?" You spat out her name so bitterly that Natasha couldn't stop herself from cringing externally.
"Y/N, please. Just for a little bit?" She practically begged. "I've got some explaining to do, I know, but we were best friends-"
"Best friends?" You cut her off. "You don't just leave your best friend like that."
Natasha didn't have enough time to respond before you continued.
"Do you know how long I searched for you? Almost five years, Nat. I heard people talking about how SHIELD sent someone to kill you and I dropped everything to find you. Do you know how much trouble I got in for that?!"
Natasha gulped silently. Of course she deserved it but you had never raised your voice at her and it struck her harder than Natasha had expected.
"Of course you do, you know how those people are with their rogue soldiers." You continued, your eyes faltering to the floor. "But I didn't care. I had to find you, help you. But you were nowhere to be found -I couldn't even find your body, Natalia."
"Y/N, I'm sorry. I truly am."
"You should be." You looked at her with a bitter smile that couldn't hide the sadness and despair in your eyes. "All that searching and running and hiding, only to see you on the news with The Avengers in New York? I mean I don't have anything against them -other than they seemed way too prestigious to be someone you'd acquaintance yourself with- but I thought you'd at least call, let me know you're okay. But you never did-"
"You didn't contact me either." Natasha interjected.
"You are in no position to assume what I did or did not do!" You shouted. "I was living on the run. For you. People were out for my head, I didn't exactly get to live with the luxury of the Stark Tower and the protection of super soldiers around me." You pointed your finger at your former friend. "That's all you." You paused to gather yourself. "And then I heard you visited Yelena."
Natasha's eyes shot back at you in surprise. "You knew about that?"
"Of course I do, Nat. You weren't exactly quiet with the exploding cars and shoot-outs." You rolled your eyes. "My point is you could've searched for me but you didn't. What's your excuse?"
The woman took in a breath. "I wanted to, I really did." Natasha looked at you to see your reaction, when you gave none she continued. "But that meant I would be putting you on the grid and that wouldn't have ended well. I could lie all I want but they'll find out, my team. They always do."
"Must be nice." You said, crossing your arms around your figure. "Having someone to call a team, people to have your back. The last time I had that, she left me with no explanation and came back expecting me to forgive her like nothing ever happened."
"I am not asking you for that." Natasha shook her head sadly. "I would love that but no, I know I deserve all of this, Y/N."
"You know what I just realized, Romanoff?" You ignored her as you took a few steps forward looking to intimidate the woman in front of you. "I realized that after all these years, I can’t remember what you feel like and I’m honestly happy and sad about it."
A sigh left Natasha's lips as her eyes found yours once again. "Then come with me, Y/N. I don't expect you to forgive me but I'll make it up to you however you want me to."
"No." Your answer was stern with no room for any argument.
Natasha's eyes wavered but she didn't back down. "Okay, then maybe we could just- I don't know, you can give me your number and next time-"
"No, Natalia." You repeated. "We are going to do none of that. Instead, we are going to pretend this never happened. We are going to pretend like we never happened. And I won't even bother myself to move across the globe because you're not worth all of that, not to me, not anymore. And there will be no next time because if you even dare to come back here, one of us is going to end up with a bullet in our head."
Natasha only stared at you. Her face was unreadable but you took notice of how she was clenching her left knuckle.
"Do you understand that?" You raised your chin as if challenging her to deny your requests.
"I do." She finally responded. "I understand perfectly."
"Good." You nodded, turning back on your heels to resume doing your chores. "Now leave. Have a great life, Romanoff."
Natasha only let her eyes lingered on your form one second longer before she turned around, fulfilling your request.
She really did mean it when she said she was going to make it up to you however you wanted her to. So if this is what you wanted, she will not give a damn about the tears on her cheeks or the excruciating pain in her chest.

prologue - chapter one - chapter two - chapter three - chapter four - chapter five - chapter six - chapter seven - chapter eight - chapter nine
masterlist
Rain patted against the darkening concrete, murky clouds covered the sunlight. Each water droplet that splashed to the floor reflected off of the red and white flashing lights. Murmurs of nearby paramedics and reporters alike echo off the antique marble building.
With your knees pressed to your chest, arms wrapping your torso in a desperate attempt to hold yourself together, you stare blankly at the street. Your palms were still covered in Lemar’s blood, knees and face scratched up and an ache on your spine that pulsed alongside your own heartbeat. Your clothes were damp from the falling droplets, but the shivers that racked your shoulders weren't from the cold. At least Alpine was with you the last time you were in the rain.
Heavy thuds approach you slowly, as well as a lack of rain falling onto your scalp, yet you couldn’t bring yourself to look up.
You had known Lemar Hoskins over the span of a few fours, twelve at max, but you knew that he was a good man. A vet serving his country for two tours, coming back from Afghanistan to continue to serve alongside his best friend. He was the water to John Walker’s raging flame, the calm in the storm. He had known you for those few hours, and still pushed you out of the way of Karli’s rage-induced shove, saving your life for his own.
Black combat boots made their way into your vision, stopping in front of you yet the owner still remained silent. Your distant gaze focused on the leather in front of you, following each intricate crease and thread that held the material together. They were wet with mud, dirt caked in between the grooves on the soles of the shoes. 13 creases. 24 stitches.
Bucky didn’t say anything, he didn’t have to. With his left hand holding up the umbrella above your heads and his right hand making its way around your shoulders, you sat in a lonely silence. You leaned into his side instinctually, eyes still as distant as ever. Before either of you could talk, the sound of jittering wheels against asphalt sparks your attention. You glance up from the floor and blanche.
A stretcher on wheels was tugged into one of the ambulances, a black plastic cover shielding a body-like shape underneath. You inhale sharply, pinpoint pupils never leaving the carted corpse. Just as you thought there were no tears left to cry, water brimmed beneath your eyelashes.
Bucky sighed softly and pulled you closer to him, ignoring the damp shirt stuck to your torso. He gently forced your chin to his side, resting his chin on top of your head with closed eyes. You closed your eyes and let out a shaky breath, before silent sobs tremor throughout your being. He shushed you softly, tugging you easily from his side to move your tucked legs into his lap.
He relished in the contact, body aching from forcibly taking the shield from Walker moments prior, but also from the fear of seeing you moments from death with no way to stop it. You’re getting sloppy, he’d tell himself. He saw you sprint towards Karli, watched with a dropped gut as she reeled her fist back because he was too slow. Then you were on the floor and Lemar was in the air.
With the umbrella still sitting in his metal hand, he pulled you impossibly closer to his chest, pressed his lips to your hair, closing his eyes and reminding himself that you were still there, not in a body bag, but in his arms.
- - - - - - -
“The GRC is conducting raids to try and find Karli, but so far they’ve only found her followers.” Sam drew from the table, split lip and cut eyebrow nursed to health. Atop the table lays the shield, shining stars and stripes teasing you. It was within grasp, all you had to do was take a few strides to finally have it strapped to your arm. But you didn’t want it, not right now with the now washed off stain across its bottom, as well as the countless lives ruined under its symbol. Isaiah Bradely, Lemar Hoskins, even John Walker fell because of the expectations.
“They’ve searched this camp, and just like the last camp, nothing.” His palms slap his thighs slightly. “She’s gone, we’ll never find her.”
Karli Morgenthau had dug her own grave. The longer she waited and hid from authorities, the less hope you felt towards saving her. She was a grieving teen with the power of a super soldier and a following unlike any other. She doesn’t care about her consequences, it makes her 10 times more dangerous.
You sat staring at the shield once more, gauze tightly wrapped around your torso so it could straighten your bruised spine. Bucky stood next to you, leaning against the railing behind with both elbows.
“Hey!” Your lazy gaze trailed towards the cherry lieutenant, his positive attitude reminding you eerily of a certain arachnid themed vigilante's. “You got your sleeve back!” Bucky rolled his eyes and turned to the door, ignoring Torres as he made his way to the door.
“Are you off to take care of Zemo?” Bucky looked to the army man over his shoulder, then continued through the doorway. You sighed softly, shaking your hanging head at his antics. Stupid antisocial old man.
“All right, good to know you survived.” Torres said, waving off Bucky’s retreating form.
“He grows on you, I promise.” You stated softly, a smile that doesn’t quite reach your eyes makes its way to your features. He shoots you a knowing nod. With a grunt, you pushed yourself upright and towards Sam. He rushed to meet you halfway as you wrapped your arms around his shoulders, closing your eyes and squeezing. He hugged you back, swaying you side to side ever so slightly. After a few moments, you pulled away and wiped at your misty eyes.
“I’ll see you around, Sammy, Torres.” Sam’s hand still rests on your shoulder.
“Come down to Louisiana some time, kid. Sarah’s been wanting to meet you ever since she picked out that dress for your dance.” You smiled, sniffling as you nodded.
“Just shoot me a message and I’ll be there, Wilson.”
- - - - - - -
Zemo was in Sokovia, visiting the memorial of his fallen home for maybe the last time. Bucky asked to talk to him alone, staring longingly at the now empty pistol. You nodded silently from Ayo’s side, looking to your hands while he stalks off to meet the trenchcoated man by the statue.
“General Okoye asks how you are, (Y/N) Rogers.” Ayo asked from your side, looking at you with a straight back. You smiled at her, meeting her strong gaze with your weak composure.
“I think you know that answer, ma’am, but send her my regards. I hope she’s doing better now that King T’Challa and Princess Shuri are back.” Ayo hums, bringing her gaze back to Bucky as he fiddles with the pistol at his side, talking to Zemo with a blank stare. Two more members of the Dora Milaje stalk to your other side, staffs tapping against the floor every step they take.
“You are strong, young one. Do not lose sight of yourself through John Walker’s actions.” Ayo turns her head back to you. “White Wolf cares for you deeply, do not take that comradery in vain.”
“Never in a million years.” You watched as Bucky raised his gun to Zemo’s forehead, fingers shaking ever so slightly over the trigger. Then, slowly, he pulls bullets from his pocket and drops them to the floor. You nodded with pride, turning to the Dora Milaje. “I think that’s your cue.” As the two soldiers make their way over, Ayo turns to you and pulls off her kimoyo beads. She places them gingerly in your hand, closing your fist with her own.
“Be strong, Bear Cub.” She pats your closed hand one last time before stalking towards Bucky, Zemo, and the Dora. You tentatively place the beads around your wrist, tracing the symbols in each bead with a child-like curiosity.
Eventually, Bucky comes back to your side with lighter steps, hands pressed into his jacket’s pockets. You both watch as the small jet takes off, you waved at them softly before they zoom off towards the raft.
“Now what?” You ask, copying his actions and letting out a loud sigh.
“Well, I gave Shuri a new project to do, which I bet she’ll have a field day with,” He smiles to himself. “So now we wait.”
“And you’re not gonna tell me what that project is?”
“Where’s the fun in that?”
- - - - - - -
With how anti-social the century old super soldier seemed, he really loved to show off.
“You’re welcome.” Bucky grunted, looking at Sam with a false disinterest. You rolled your eyes, trailing Bucky with the Wakandan suitcase in your hands. You heaved the large bag onto the truck’s bed and looked to the Louisiana man with a quirked eyebrow.
“Just dropping this off.” You drawled, gesturing to Bucky as he looks towards the water’s edge. “Sign for it and we’ll go.” Sam traced the designs on the suitcase gently, gaze darting from his hands to Bucky.
“I called in a favor from the Wakandans.” Bucky stated, still looking at the water under the boiling Louisiana sun. Sam looked at you with raised eyebrows. You scoffed and raised your hands in surrender.
“Don’t look at me, Sammy. He insisted it was a surprise. I have no clue what’s in the box, Brad Pitt.” He rolled his eyes, opening his mouth to talk before a pipe on one of the boats burst.
“Sam!” A beautiful woman shouts from the dock’s edge. Her dark, braided hair falls from it’s loose ponytail on top of her head. She held a clipboard in her hands as she watched the water flow from the burst pipe. As Sam approaches the pipe, Bucky straightens his posture and turns to the woman.
“Hi.” He sends a small smile to her. Your eyes widened ever so slightly. The ladies man from the 1940’s seemed to poke his head just a bit.
“Hi.” She smiles back at him. Oh, this’ll be fun.
Bucky stalks towards Sam with squinted eyes and proceeds to fix the pipe with ease. You send a sly grin towards the brunette, eying the way the woman was eating Bucky up like he was eye candy.
“You need help with the boat, Sam?” You called, causing the two to turn their heads. Sam raised an eyebrow. “Bucky used to work on the docks. He knows his way around a boat like the back of his hand.” A shade of pink sprinkles across Bucky’s nose, so light you wouldn't have been able to tell if you weren’t sending him a shit-eating grin.
“You wanna help?”
“If you’ll have me.”
“Just follow him, Buck.” Sam shook his head with a fond smile on his face as he walked into the boat’s captain’s quarters. Bucky sends you a health-hearted glare as he moves to follow, only to stop and stare at the woman’s feet.
“I’m Bucky.”
“Sarah.” She smiles. Bucky stares at her like she’s hung the moon and placed the stars in the sky, mumbling a soft ‘Sarah’ under lips with a charming smile on his face. Sam’s sister.
Oh this’ll be a blast
- - - - - - -
“I don’t think we’ve officially met.” You jog to catch up to Sarah, sending her a sweet smile from her side. “I’m (Y/N).” You stretch your hand out.
“Sarah.” She shakes your hand firmly, looking you up and down with a furrowed eyebrow. “Did you like that dress I picked out for you a couple of months ago, love?”
“Yes! I love it so much!” Your smile turns bright as you both move down the doc towards a large house, light blue wood panels and red roof surrounded by billowing willow trees. “That picture of me and Buck is my lock screen, actually.”
“Awww, nothing like a man and his daughter going to the dance.” Sarah sighs in content, looking towards the house with eyes lost in the past. She didn’t notice you freeze at her side through her reminiscing. “I remember when my Daddy took me to mine. The man had two left feet, but it was still one of the best nights I’ve ever had.”
You let out a shaky breath, gulping slowly as you try to get back into the woman’s haisty cadence.
“You okay, cher?” A cough came from your throat as you nodded, sending her smile that turned out to me more of a grimace.
“Sam calls me that too.” Sarah picks up on the change of topic fairly quickly, watching as you discretely fiddle with your fingers and shift your weight from one foot to another.
“It’s a Louisiana thing, means ‘dear’ or ‘love’, something like that.” Sarah continues to study you as she speaks. After a moment, her eyes widened in shock. “Oh my god, he’s not your dad. I’m so sorry!”
With frantic eyes you shake your head quickly. “No! It’s okay, really! He’s my…”
What was Bucky? Uncle? Brother? Distant cousin?
None of those fit the role Bucky fulfilled for the past six months. He wasn’t that crazy uncle everyone talks about, going on and on about the hockey game last Sunday, or an annoying older brother with an egotistical mindset on the world around him.
No, Bucky took care of you when you couldn’t take care of yourself. He made sure you were warm in all hours of the night, fed you when school seemed to devour all of your attention, made you feel worth a damn in all matters of the words. When Steve died, he was your shoulder to cry on like you were his. He tries his hardest every day to take care of you as if you were his own, that doesn’t fit ‘uncle’ or ‘brother’ or ‘cousin’.
Bucky was your dad, not through bloodline or adoption papers, but through his actions on an everyday basis. His post-it notes hidden in your jacket pockets, the wakandan braids he wraps your hair into when you need a stress reliever, when he comes into your room with alpine in his arms as he turns off your laptop.
“He’s my dad…” You muttered, nodding to yourself with a smile on your face. Sarah smiled softly as she opens the front door, two little boys barrel through the doorway.
“Mama! Is Uncle Sam still on the dock?”
“We need help with our math homework and he’s the only one that remembers fractions!”
“Boys!” Sarah exclaimed, an edge to her voice that only a mother uses for her children. Both boy’s lips clamped shut, cutting off their ramblings as fast as they started. They stood side by side with wide eyes. “We have a guest. Be good hosts and…” She trailed off expectantly.
“Welcome them.” Both boys recited with pouts on their faces before turning to you.
“Hi! I’m AJ!” The smaller boy grinned while looking you up and down. “And this is my brother, Cass!”
“I can speak for myself, AJ!” Cass groans. Sarah closes her eyes in exasperation as the boys start to argue once more. With a huff, you squatted to meet the boy’s eyes.
“Fellas,” Wow, living with a guy from the 40’s for the last 6 years really rubbed off on you. “You’re both grown young men, right?” They nodded their heads in sync. “Let’s go back inside and work on your homework, and then you can show me around Delacroix? I don’t know much about this place.”
Both had a similar light in their eye, but Cass furrowed his eyebrows ever so slightly.
“But we need help with our math work. Uncle Sam studied math LOADS, and Mama can’t remember fractions.” Sarah rolled her eyes silently from behind you.
“Who says I don’t know fractions?” They light up as bright as the sun. “I’ll help you guys with your work,” The boys let out a cheer. “After you apologize to your ma.”
“Sorry Mama.”
“Sorry Mommy.”
“Great.” You stand back to your feet, wincing ever so slightly from your aching back. “Now go inside and get your stuff ready, I’ll be there in a sec.” As the boys patter off with a newfound pep in their step, you turn to Sarah with a sheepish smile. She wears a gracious smirk on her face.
“You’ve got a way with kids?” She walks through the door of the house. You follow not too far behind, looking around the home with a nostalgic gaze. The homemade quilts draped across the couches backrest, every inch of the walls covered in drawings and photos. The house I lived in, it felt homey just walking into it for the first time.
“You could say that. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to channel my inner Khan Academy this afternoon.”
- - - - - - -
“Because both of the denominators are the same, what are you gonna do?”
“Um,” AJ bit his bottom lips softly, gripping the pencil in his hand tight. Cass sits beside him, working on his own work with his tongue sticking out of his mouth comically. “We leave the denominator alone, and add the numerator?”
“Yes! Good job, man!” He smiles brightly while answering the rest of the question, then he looks back up to you.
“Thanks (Y/N)!” You sent him a smile as you ruffled his hair.
“No problem, AJ.”
“(Y/N)! Could you come here for a bit?” Sarah called from the kitchen.
“I’ll be there in a second!” You stand from the dining table’s seat slowly and make your way into the tiled room. Sarah stood at the counter as she sliced apples.
“How’s it going in there? You’ve been teaching ‘em for a little over an hour now.”
“They’re getting it now, I think. Cass should be done any second with his addition and subtraction, and AJ has probably 10 more minutes or so.”
“That’s good.” She looked around the counter with furrowed eyebrows. You snort softly, handing her the peanut butter jar from beyond her gaze. She chuckles as she twists the blue ‘Skippy’ cap open and lobs a bit of the butter on the plate. “I just wanted to apologize for earlier, assuming Bucky was your dad.”
“It’s not a big deal, Sarah. Really.” You reached for a sliced apple, only for your hand to be swatted away. You pouted softly before continuing. “I think everyone thinks he’s my dad if they don’t know us personally.”
“That doesn’t justify me making you uncomfortable.” She looked you dead in the eye, a seriousness emitted from her gaze that made you shift under it.
“Then I accept your apology.” She nodded before offering you an apple. You took one with a grateful smile. “If anything, it made me realise how much of a dad he was to begin with, so thank you for that.”
The silence that sat between you two wasn’t uncomfortable by any means. In the time spent, Sarah brought out a pitcher of sweet tea and poured them into mason jars. You both idly spi on the tea in your hand after she had placed the apple slices in front of the working boys.
“Do you get scared?” Sarah breathed into her jar slightly as you spoke. She looked up to you with raised eyebrows. “When Sam goes off to fight, I mean.”
“All the time. But Sam has been in the military for a long time, that fear has always been there even before the Potomac.” Sarah watched you through her lashes, noting your posture as well as the bags from under your eyes. “How much of a battlefield have you seen, cher?”
“About as much of a battlefield you could see, ma’am.” Her nose scrunches at the title.
“You hold all that on your shoulders, and you haven’t let anyone ease the lift.” It wasn’t a question, but a statement. Sarah Wilson had just read you like a book.
“It must be a Wilson thing, not being able to hide anything from you guys.” Sarah laughed wryly.
“It’s a mother-thing, baby.”
- - - - - - -
Spending the afternoon with two energizer bunny relatives was not how you expected today to go. So when AJ and Cass decided to grab your wrists and drag you across the town to show you around, each foot felt like dead weight as the sun started to set. Golden hour, if you will.
You held two beers in your hands as well as a few capri-suns that were stuff in your pockets as you approached the boat. Sam and Bucky were both sitting by the edge, taking a break from their rigorous work. AJ and Cass chase each other from behind you, laughing and shouting with each other as you make haste to the duo.
“Hey fellas,” You drawl, limping into the boat as gently as you could. At the sign of your struggle, Bucky leapt to his feet and helped you down.
“Fellas. what, are you from the 1940’s too?” Sam teased from his spot. You rolled your eyes fondly and handed him the beer bottle.
“Might as well be with all the slang I’ve been picking up. When’s the last time you’ve been called a dead hoofer?” Bucky snorted from your side as you sat. “Means bad dancer, youngin’.”
“I am not! You haven’t even seen my moves yet!”
“Well you sure as hell ain’t a ducky shincracker.” Bucky erupts in a fit of laughter.
“Do I really still say that?” He manages to ask between breaths. Your smile widens.
“Occasionally, yes.” You handed him the second beer bottle silently. He snaps the bottle open with a pop, but before he could take a sip you snatch the drink from his hands and swig. Bucky yelps and yanks the drink away from your lips as Sam laughs boisterously. Bucky smacks you upside the head gently, sending you a stern glare that tries to desperately hide the underlying amusement.
“I still got a few years before I drag you outta bars, please don’t shorten those for me.” He mumbles, bringing the rim of the bottle to his lips. You huff gently as you pull out one of the lemonade capri sun (the superior flavor) from your back pocket.
“I’ll think about it.” Bucky rolls his eyes. Sam drinks from his bottle with a smile on his face as he watches you both.
“Hey cher, you looking forward to the hotel room later?” You deadpan at the Louisiana man.
“Not after I got to sit on that couch. Softest. Couch. Ever.” Both men chuckled as you sip idly on the thin yellow straw.
“I get it, Wilson. The people here are nice.” Bucky nods. Sam pumps his hand to the air in victory. His smile quickly turns to a glare.
“But don’t flirt with my sister.” You snort, torso lurching from your spot on the seat. Bucky’s smile falls as he shakes his head.
“No.”
“Cause if you do - I’ll have Carlos cut you up and feed you to the fish.”
“Okay.” Bucky saunters off to the back of the boat as you (awfully) stifle your laughter.
“Don’t worry, Buck!” You called to him, causing him to poke his head from the Captain’s quarters. “I’ll distract him while you show Sarah what boys in the 40’s could bring to the table!”
“No she will not!”
- - - - - - -
After dinner and a very stupid argument about who sleeps where, you found yourself situated on the floor on top of a comforter with a grumbling Bucky laying on the couch.
The house lights were off, the only light shining into the room was from the motion sensors by the patio. The blanket beneath you cushioned the hardwood floor as you closed your eyes. Bucky continued to grumble.
“Just go to sleep, hardass.” You mumbled through a thick layer of sleep. “Get over the fact that you’re sleeping on the couch and I’m on the floor.”
“It’s not like I don’t sleep on the floor anyways, I don’t know why you were so Amendt of me being on the couch.”
“Because you spent all day tearing that boat apart to put it back together later.” Bucky sighed, but turned to his side and closed his eyes.
No matter how heavy your eyelids were, sleep wouldn’t take over. You continued to toss and turn beneath the covers with furrowed eyebrows. Images of Lemar sprawled against the pillar with crimson falling from his lips were seared in the back of your eyelids, never letting you unsee the event from a couple of days ago. Soon enough, Bucky sighed and laid on his back facing the ceiling head on.
“It’s late, doll. What’s up?” You mimicked his sigh as you turned to face him, a small frown etched on your face.
“Your list,” You blurted. “Of amends.” He stays quiet, waiting for you to continue. “How do you, I don’t know, amend?” His silence remains after a few moments, so long you wondered if he fell asleep before you even told him.
“Raynor made me a list of rules to follow.” He answered through the darkness. “The most important one is not to hurt anyone, which ironically is the second rule of the three.”
“Why isn’t it rule number one?”
“I don’t have an answer for that.” He chuckled lightly before continuing. “But I always say my mantra to them, the final rule.”
I am no longer the Winter Soldier. I am James Bucky Barnes, and you’re part of my efforts to make amends.
“Why do you ask?” Tears well up in your eyes, but you don’t let them fall. With a breath, you look to the ceiling and trace shapes from the popcorn drywall.
“Because I want to reach out to Lemar’s family.” Bucky closes his eyes, then he nods slowly. “I wanna apologize.”
“You don’t have to apologize, (Y/N)-”
“I do.” You interrupted, a scowl on your face as you spoke. “Lemar pushed me out of the way from Karli, he died saving my life. It’s my fault that he’s dead.”
“He made that choice.” Bucky stated firmly, no room for argument. “And it’s a choice that I thank him for everyday and will continue to thank him for the rest of my days. Because you’re still here with me instead of pressed to a wall with a cracked spine. But it wasn’t anyone’s fault that things turned out the way they did. So do not go blaming yourself for something you had no control over.”
“I still need to talk to them, to tell them the whole story because lord knows that Walker probably won’t tell them all of it.”
“Then do that, but don’t walk around with the weight of his death on your shoulders, it wasn’t your fault.”
Your shoulders shook in unsaid frustration, a single tear passing the blockade you had put up for yourself. Bucky watched your face with certainty, something you could latch onto and tell yourself that he wasn’t lying, he was being as honest as he could be.
After a while, you nodded softly and turned to your side. Slowly, your eyes closed and didn’t open again, the heaviness from before coming back as your muscles relaxed into the comforter. Bucky hummed, then moved his hand to hang off of the couch, resting his fingertips in the tuff of your hair. His hands drew small patterns idly, drawing you closer to sleep.
- - - - - - -
“Mama said-”
“But it’s late! She’s gotta wake up eventually.”
“She looked so tired yesterday though…”
“We’ll take her to Miss Muray’s! Mama always says she makes the best coffee!”
You open your eyes slowly, wincing at the bright sunlight that poked through the window. As you turn to your back, you wipe at your cheek, the drool coming off of your hand shining from the light. AJ and Cass sit by the dining table, talking with their voices as well as their hands.
“If you’re talking about waking me up, you’ve already passed the test.” You mumbled, rubbing the sleep from your eyes as you spoke.
“Cass! We weren’t supposed to wake her up!” AJ whined, but Cass paid no mind. He jumped from his seat at the table and ran to your side, hopping from one foot to another in excitement.
“(Y/N)! We didn’t get to finish our tour of the town yesterday and you’re leaving today! You slept in and we have to move!” AJ comes to his side slowly with a downcast gaze. You sighed softly, but raised to your feet. Forget your aching spine or bed head, the boys had a plan to show you around the town and who were you to refuse them that?
“Let’s go to Miss Muray’s. I could use a good cup’a.”
They cheer.
- - - - - - -
“And Mama makes the best shrimp gumbo pot there is!”
“But Carlos went to culinary school for a little bit, so he knows his way around the grill.”
You straggle behind the two as they talk, scanning the surroundings with a watchful eye. They both held lollipops as they spoke (Thanks to the debit card sitting in your phone case). Each step on the gravel pathway led towards the house, the familiar sound of vibranium slicing the air grew louder. The boys turned the corner before you and darted off. Your eyes widened, because you couldn’t see them through the shrubs at the corner. Before you knew it, you were jogging around the corner with a jumping heart beat. The panic left as soon as it came when you saw the boys approaching both Sam and Bucky. As Sam held the shield against his forearm, a sense of pride filled you. With your racing heartbeat slowing down, you sauntered towards the boys with an easy smile on your face. The closer you got, you were able to realise both Bucky’s and your bag hanging from the brunette’s shoulder.
“Are Bucky and (Y/N) leaving? We didn’t show Bucky around the town!” The boys whined.
“And (Y/N) is great at fractions!” You chuckled under your breath.
“I’ll come back soon, boys. I gotta get back to school.” You promised from behind them, extending a hand out to Bucky to take the bag from his shoulder. He took in your slouched posture and shook his head minutely, keeping the bag securely in his arms. “And I’ll spend the night next time too.”
“But don’t you have to ask your dad to do that? Mama always says we have to ask permission to spend the night with friends. ” AJ asked with a tilted head. You huffed and sent him a small smile, gulping down an invisible ball in your throat. With what Sarah had said yesterday, you thought a lot in your past time about Bucky’s role in your life.
Sam opened his mouth to speak, but didn’t get the chance to let out any words.
“You’re right, little man.” You turned fully to the blue-eyed brunette. “Whatcha say, Pa?” A nervous smile plays on your lips.
Bucky’s eyes widen and his mouth gapes. His disbelief only lasts a second before he’s nodding his head with a growing grin, dimples shown off for the world to see. Sam smiled widely.
“Perfect.” You turned to the boys with a bright grin. “I’ll see you guys in a bit, then.” You approached Sam, a grin never wiped from your face. He raises his eyebrows expectantly, arms open and waiting. With a chuckle, you wrap your arms around his shoulders and squeeze. “I’ll see you then, Sammy.”
“Don’t be a stranger, cher.”
With that, you turned to Bucky and started walking down the gravel path. He gingerly wraps his arm around your shoulders and pulls you close, pressing a kiss to your head with his smile ever leaving his face. You both watch the Louisiana sun set while walking.
“Love ya, Ace.”
“Love you too, Buck.”

Cinnamon Roll (Reader x Steve Rogers)
Warnings: Language
Word count: 1.5k+
Prompts: 68. The world is against us + 26. I care about you, dummy
You glanced at your phone to see the clock staring back at you.
8:02 PM
He’s late. Steve is never late.
You knew he was bound to be one day, and it seems like that day was today, but you couldn’t help to grow concerned. He didn’t have any missions today, at least not that you knew of, so he shouldn’t be in any life threatening situation that would restrict him from texting you. He could’ve at least informed you of his whereabouts, he knew how much of a mother-hen you could be despite him being at least a few decades older than you. Well what could you say, you had been through some terrible losses in your life and now you probably had borderline separation anxiety. Especially when it comes to Steve; the man had been one of the only constant things in your life for quite a while and you couldn’t lose him too.
You nervously shifted on your feet, fidgeting with the device on your hands. Your teeth found their way to your lips, a bad habit you formed in your early childhood years. Eventually your fingers started to absentmindedly pick on the skin of your fingers -another nervous habit.
You suddenly felt a hand on your shoulder and you jumped. Your instincts kicked in before you could think and you grabbed the stranger’s wrist, twisting it to an almost unnatural angle.
“Ow! Ow! It’s me!” Suddenly the figure spoke.
“Shit!” You immediately let the hand go, almost dropping your phone in the process. “I’m sorry! I thought it was someone else!”
Steve breathed with an amused smile on his face, “Jesus, Y/N, I guess I did a pretty decent job in teaching you self defense.”
“Where were you?” You finally felt yourself release a breath you didn’t know you were holding. “I was worried.”
“I apologize.” He smiled sympathetically, rubbing the spot you previously held -he’s a superhero, he’ll manage. “Fury kept me in a bit longer than I thought he would.”
“You could’ve texted me.” You said with no room for argument.
“I know, I’m sorry.” He smiled sheepishly before he started to walk down the sidewalk and you followed closely. “I promise it will not happen again.”
“It better not, Rogers.” You pointed a finger at his face with a fake threatening scowl on your lips.
He turned his head slightly towards you as you lowered your finger. “So, where are we heading tonight?”
“I wanted to try out the new donut shop down on Mains.” Your head tilted slightly in thought. “I heard they have good cinnamon rolls too.”
“Of course they do,” Steve couldn’t help the teasing smile emerging on his face.
“Hey, come on,” you lightly slapped his side, “it’s basically tradition for us to have a cinnamon roll together at this point, we’ve been doing it for like a year.”
“I know, I know.” Your companion put his hands up in surrender, his smile never leaving. “I just thought you would want to have something different by now, I thought you said you get bored easily.”
Your eyes drifted to the concrete below you as you muttered softly, “this is different.”
Sensing your change in mood, Steve brought his right arm up and across your smaller figure to pull you closer. He always noticed the slightest change of demeanor you had, even early in your friendship -it's one of the things you appreciated most of him. Another thing was that although you know he was curious and concerned, he never pressed too hard. He knew when to leave you alone and he trusted that you would tell him what you needed to tell him in your own time.
On the rest of the walk there were a few small talks over your job or school and Steve’s petty complaints about his own job -yes, Steve Rogers does complain about being an Avenger sometimes, understandably so- but it was mostly spent in comforting silence of you and Steve just enjoying each other’s presence. Steve adjusted his pace for you, held you a little bit tighter to his side when a sudden breeze flowed by, glared at passersby whose eyes lingered a bit too long on you -the little things that made the walk shorter than it really was.
If it wasn’t for the most loved scent of coffee filling your nose when you walked in through the doorway of the shop, you would’ve dreaded reaching your destination. You excitedly rushed towards the glassed display filled with fluffy sweet treats. The colorful doughnuts and pastries alike lined up with a few blanks in random places due to how late in the day it was.
“Hello there, welcome to Stan’s Sweets,” a cheerful voice chirped from behind the counter. “How can I help you?”
“Hi, I’d like one hot cappuccino please,” Steve ordered before you could reply. “What do you want, Y/N?”
“Uh…” You searched the menu hung above behind the cashier before finally turning to the girl before. “Can you maybe recommend me something?”
“Of course!” The teen squared up her shoulders in surprise and excitement. “What are you in the mood for?”
You thought for a quick second. “Something warm and sweet, but not too sweet- maybe a little bit of kick, you know what I mean?”
She nodded thoughtfully, “we have a chai latte, it’s actually one of our specialties.”
“That would be perfect, thanks-” you glanced at the name tag on her uniform, “Sarah.”
“My pleasure!” She typed in your order into the cashier machine. “That’s one cappuccino and one chai latte, anything else?”
“Yeah, I heard you have amazing cinnamon rolls, can we please get two of those?” You grinned excitedly and you could hear Steve chuckle at your antics.
But Sarah’s face fell into an apologetic smile. “I’m sorry I think we’ve run out for today.”
Your shoulders slumped and you turned your head to Steve who only gave you a sympathetic shrug.
“Maybe you should order something else, Y/N, just this once.” He suggested.
“But we haven’t had one together in more than a month,” you whined. Okay maybe you were a little bit dramatic but you really wanted that roll.
“We’ll get one next time, doll.” Steve assured, shifting his figure closer to you.
“I’m so sorry, they do sell out quite quickly.” Sarah apologized once more.
“No, it’s okay.” You smiled weakly to the girl who seemed to appreciate the understanding a bit more than you’d expected. “I’ll just get a tiramisu cake then,”
“I can do that,” Sarah nodded, “and for you?”
“Oh, I’m good.” Steve dismissed kindly.
“Alright so that’s one cappuccino, one chai latte, and one tiramisu.” The young girl once again listed. “Your total is eleven dollars.”
Steve paid off the bill as he held your hand just a tad bit tighter so you couldn’t reach for your own wallet. After a promise of bringing your treats in a few minutes, you and Steve head deeper into the shop to search for a seat.
The shop wasn’t too crowded aside from a few students with their heads buried into their laptops and a few more couples scattered around. The two of you decided on the seat in the far corner and Steve sat against the wall with you across from him.
You sat with a sigh and a lingering pout which Steve noticed.
“You’re still upset about the cinnamon roll?” His head quirked to the side like a puppy.
“I’m not, I just-” you avoided his gaze, instead staring off outside the window far across the room. We haven’t hung out in a long time and I know I’m overreacting but I just feel like the world is against us.”
Steve’s chest rumbles in a chuckle. “Well, this was supposed to be a surprise but I guess I can tell you now.”
This time it was you who appeared confused, “what surprise?”
Steve leaned in and rested his forearms on the table to get closer to you, a smile was adorning his face. “I might have had Buck teach me how to bake some cinnamon rolls.”
You gasped in delight. “You didn’t-”
“Of course I did.” Steve shrugged smugly, leaning back to his seat.
“You really did that?” Your eyes still held adoration and surprise. “For me?”
“Yes, Y/N, for you.” The blond nodded with a softer tone.
“Why?”
Steve looked at you like you grew a new head. It took him a few seconds before he finally replied, “What do you mean ‘why’?”
“Well you don’t seem to like baking too much, I assume that’s why Bucky is the ‘baking half’ of your friendship,” you paused, “right?”
“I guess,” he nodded.
“So why did you do it?”
Steve once again smiled gently, his eyes kind. “Because I care about you, dummy.”
You froze. “Oh.”
“Yeah. Oh.” The man couldn’t help but laugh at your flustered state.
Just then, Sarah came around with your cake and coffees but with a quick smile she left as fast as she came around. You were silent for a couple of minutes, playing with the spoon in your hand while Steve switched back and forth from watching you and watching the streets from the window.
“I- uh-” you started. Steve pulled his full attention towards you, his coffee almost half done. “Thank you, Steve.”
“Anytime, sweetheart.”

Tell The World (Reader x Peter Parker)
Warnings: Language
Word count: 1.1k+
Being an Avenger at your young age pretty much came in a package with being Peter Parker’s best friend. When you moved from your parents’ house in DC to the Avengers Compound in New York, Tony and Steve convinced you to be Peter’s patrol buddy whenever you were free. They said it was so you could bond, but you already went to the same school with Peter and hung out with him and his friends. It was obvious to you and Peter it was really so you could babysit each other; make sure no one ends up dead. At first, you were opposed to the idea but after a few weeks, you’ve learnt that Peter was actually a joy to be around and that’s how you two ended up where you are now.
Sitting on the ledge of an apartment building with a croissant on your hands and a sandwich on Peter’s, you listened to Peter ramble about the Lego set he just purchased.
“-and it’s life sized! It’s even longer than my whole arm. I think I might take it to the lab, tweak it a little bit, see if I can make it light up like an actual lightsaber.” The bottom half of his face was uncovered and between his chewing and talking, Peter didn’t let his mouth rest. “Ned is going to be so jealous. Wait until he knows about-”
Just then, the police scanner sitting in between you and the boy let out a familiar static buzz.
“We’ve got a 211A on the corner of South and Main. At least three suspects, all armed-”
“Damn,” you grumbled as you picked up your mask, “I’m not even finished with my croissant yet.”
Peter chuckled as he himself tossed his sandwich aside and fixed the position of his own face covering. “Maybe you should tell the burglars to be more mindful of your dinner schedule next time.”
“Haha, very funny.” You adjusted the gloves on your hands as you got up from your seat, waiting for your friend to finish getting ready.
You were about to jump off the roof when Peter gasped, catching your attention. “Hold on! Wait!”
“What?”
He fished out his phone from the black backpack sitting beside the ledge you were on. “I promised my fans I’m going to do a livestream tonight.”
Most of your face was covered but you were sure your incredulous expression was perfectly conveyed. “Your fans?”
“Yeah! I have an Instagram account now, remember?” He shrugged as he typed on his phone.
“For Spiderman?”
Peter hummed in confirmation.

You dont know how much I fucking love your smile
I hate that i left you like that over nothing
I want to know you more than i think i know
I looked at pictures of us from almost a year ago & they dont even feel real. We smiled a lot then.
I’m still not convinced you actually want me
First it was a game. Then it was real. And now it's just a heartache.
Maybe some other time.
Maybe someday I can finally accept that no matter how much we love each other, we can't be together.
Why did you leave me for them? Why are they better than I am?
I wish you didn't hate me, and I wish I didn't hate you.
The thought of you still drives me crazy even after all this time
Please come see me, just one more time.
I wish I can still tell you everyday how much I love you
Everything reminds me of you.
It hurts so fucking much.
I hate you but I love you
I think your interests are really cool I would love to hear more
But when it hurts I can make you better
In another life, I guess…
You really messed me up, but you’ll always have a special place in my heart.
Why did we change?
The future we always had planned, now belongs to us in another dimension.
I bully you sometimes but you’re still really cool
Move on before you get hurt even more.
Forever and ever. To infinity and beyond. Remember?
I care about you, dummy
I never meant to lose you. Especially not like this.
Thank you for giving me a reason to wake up in the morning.
Wish you are here right now with me
You fell too hard
I liked seeing you fall apart completely
Please don’t give up on us.
What the fuck is wrong with you?
I wish I never hurt you.
I really hope you are honest this time
You were really special to me
It was going so well until you decided you couldn't be around me anymore
I still remember this was your favorite color and it started to be my favorite too
You don’t just leave your best friend like that.
I just know you are happier now
I wish I could run down the hill one more time and hear you saying that you will catch me
You probably will never care, but fuck you.
I dreamed of you yesterday
I guess I was wrong
I wish things could be different between us
I can feel that my life is falling apart
Save me please
You make me believe soulmates are real everyday
I love you more than myself and you broke me.
I realize the hurt I’ve cause you and I’m sorry.
You love them so much, I wish someone could love me that much
Doesn’t mean I forgive you
You remind me of the moon.
Hey, what neck tattoo should I get?
I already miss being in your arms
There are levels to this shit.
Even though I know it’s selfish.
I hope you are happy without me. You deserve that.
You promised me forever.
I’m keeping you forever and for always
Losing you is like falling endlessly into an abyss
Do you not love me anymore?
Can I be your forever?
You’re very funny.
Is it weird?
I’m in so much pain and you probably haven’t even thought about me.
Loving you is like walking on a road with the traffic signs stuck on green when it should be red.
The world is against us
I like your mom better
I will wait for you forever
I can’t remember what you feel like and I’m honestly happy and sad about it.
I’ve grown up a bit and am now capable of seeing what a wonderful human you are
I fall in love with you and you don’t give a fuck
My whole heart aches to tell you this
I’m really tired of being confused
She is your first love but I intend to be your last
You set my standards too high
I’m trying so hard to be strong
Thank you so much for teaching me how to grow
Thank you for loving me in the best way you know how
I’m sorry I’ve made you second choice
Why do we have to be punished like this?
You shouldn’t have lied
Someday you will accept the love you deserve.
You saved my life
No matter what, I’ll always be grateful
Maybe I should learn from this time
You’re a dumb bitch
Now it’s time for you to go
Sometimes I wonder if we knew each other in a past life
I don’t care. Just come back.
Being by your side is the best thing I could ever ask for.
I’m with you ‘till the end of the line.
Thank you for making me believe in love again
I wish I knew that was the last time you’d hold me
It might not have been a lot to you, but to me it was everything.
Your love healed me in ways I never thought possible.
Do you ever miss it too?
Enjoy yourself, kid.
You deserve the world.

masterlist
Okay, but Zemo is rich rich.
And not in the, I have money, get out of my way, rich. It's the, I own a bunch of properties around the world and have resources galore, kinda rich.
So this palace-like entrance of his Latvia home was beautiful to say the least. And, as a bonus, there was a coffee shop right next to the doorway.
Bucky went off on a walk a little bit ago, shoulders almost unnoticeably tense. In all honesty, you would have missed it if you hadn’t spent everyday with him for the past six months. He stalked off into one of the back alleys of the pristine city, leaving you with Sam and Zemo in the luxurious home. The latter had retired into the bathroom to take a shower, Sam sitting atop one of the couches decorating the living space. You followed suit, a sigh escaping your lips.
“How’re you doing, cher?” Sam asked lightly, turning his head to look towards you. You raised your eyebrows in confusion. “I haven’t really gotten the chance to talk to you since Madripoor, kid. I wanted to check on you, is all.”
A bashful smile forms on your face. “Thanks, Sam. I’m still sorta working through it, but I talked with Buck a little yesterday.” Sam hummed thoughtfully with a nod, his training in the VA surfacing.
“Hey,” You called, nudging his shoulder with your knuckles gently. He turned to you fully. “I’ll come to you or Bucky if I need anything, okay?”
“Alright.” He nods. “That works for me.”
“Perfect.” You stood up and whiled your hands to your knees, turning to point at him with a quirked eyebrow. “I’m gonna get some coffee from the store next door, you want anything?”
“Cappuccino?”
“Okay tough guy, it’s coming to you in a to-go cup, so no pretty swirls for you. Gotta uphold the reputation.”
- - - - - - -
Damnit, why couldn’t public schools provide any other language classes besides spanish?
Latvian was difficult to decipher, to say the least. Bucky had a large vocabulary of cuss words from different languages that were often thrown out when his toe met the poor coffee table leg. But that was the extent of your knowledge in European tongue. So when the young woman barista, maybe a year or two older than you, greeted you with a “Sveiki! ko es šodien tev varu dabūt?” (Hi! What can I get for you today?), Your mouth opened and closed like a fish out of water. She let out the smallest of giggles at your expression, a blush warming across your nose.
“You are a visitor, yes?” She asked, english accented ever so slightly.
“Yes, uh, an unexpected visit so I couldn’t try and learn the language.” You rubbed the back of your neck sheepishly. She sent you a small smile. “I don’t know a lick of the language, unless you wanna count the swear words my uncle says around the house.” She laughed, oh god her laugh was so light and pretty. Her nose scrunched ever so slightly, eye’s squinted and her dimples on full display.
“Swear words? What kinds?” She inquired.
“Well, he knows a lot of languages, but I think the latvian one is ‘Izdzimtenis’ (Son of a bitch)?” The barista snorts in laughter.
“That is quite vulgar, yes.” She stifles back another laugh before standing up straight. “What can I get for you?”
“Oh!” You almost forgot you, you were here for coffee. “Can I get a large cappuccino, a large black coffee, and a medium (Your favorite coffee)?” She pulls out three cups and writes down their orders in black sharpie.
“Of course, will that be all?” She looks up to you through her eyelashes. Your ears burn a soft pink.
“Yes ma’am!” You chirped.
“And the (Your favorite drink) is yours, yes?” Huh?
“Yeah?”
“Okay!” She scribbles across the cup once more, a smile of fake innocence coming to her face. “Your total will be 10 euros.” You hand her the debit card. She swipes it swiftly and hands it back to you, reaching for the sharpie once more. “And your name?”
“(Y/N).”
“Ahh, glīts vārds glītai dāmai. (A pretty name for a pretty lady.)” She winked at you before pointing towards the end counter. “Your drinks will be done soon.”
“Thank you,” you glanced down to her nametag. “Sofija.”

When you walked back into the house, two cups in your hands and one between your teeth, Bucky was already back and pouring himself a glass of whiskey. You rolled your eyes and handed Sam his drink, taking the cup from your mouth and sipping at the drink.
“You couldn’t have waited a little longer for your coffee?” You looked to Bucky with quirked eyebrows. He shrugged unceremoniously and gulped at his drink. Sam mirrored his actions, letting out a small moan.
“This,” he brings the cup to the air. “Is truly a gift from the gods.”
“I can second that.” You tapped your cup to his with a nod of your head. Sam looked at you, amused.
“What did you even get?”
“(Your favorite drink).” Bucky replies, taking a sip of his tall black coffee. “That’s all she gets in Brooklyn.”
“Ouch.” You wince playfully, holding your hand to your chest dramatically. The cup points towards the man sitting on the couch. “You wanna try?”
Sam takes the cup and sips, humming and looking back to the cup. “This is pretty goo-Is that a phone number?!”
With an anxious yelp, you yank the cup from his hands a stare at the cup, neck and nose burning red. Sure enough, there was a fancy scribble next to your name on the cup.
xxx-xxx-xxxx
You’re cute when you’re flustered <3
Sofija
Sam whistles loudly, head leaning back with obnoxious laughter. “(Y/N)! You’ve got game!”
Bucky squints playfully. “I don’t know Sam, she doesn’t look too charming right now.” You whine softly, hiding your face behind the cup. “What did I tell ya about boys? I’m supposed to have years to prepare for this, not months.”
“Well, I didn’t technically break the rule.” Well, crap. You really weren’t planning on saying that aloud, but your snark really got the best of you.
Sam raised his chin in thought, a grin slowly making its way to his face. But that wasn’t where your attention laid, it was at the confused brunette sipping on his black coffee.
Bucky’s eyebrows furrow from behind the cup, gaze set on the intricate designs of the wall while his mind raced. Before he could even open his mouth to speak, Sam sipped loudly on his drink.
“Was she cute?” A groan fell from your lips, you quickly placed the cup on the table in front of you and hid behind your hands.
“Sam!”
“What? It’s a valid question!”
It was like clockwork, the realisation coming to Bucky’s face in increments at a time. First, his eyes widened and eyebrows rose, then his mouth opened to speak but nothing came out. Finally, Bucky let out a soft ‘ohhhh’ while nodding his head. There was a moment of silence as both you and Sam look at him.
“Oh? That’s all you’re gonna say?” Sam’s hands flew in the air as he spoke. Bucky raised an eyebrow in confusion.
“What else should I say?” He turned to you after he talked, a frown forming on his face at the sight of your frantic eyes and pale complexion. “It’s accepted now, right? Or those lessons I’ve been giving myself have really not worked.”
“I-” You gulped. “Yeah, I guess it’s accepted now.”
“Then what are you worried about?” You looked down to your fingers in embarrassment. Sam sighed and turned his whole body towards the soldier.
“Bucky, you were literally born in a time where it was the least accepted, you gotta remember that even if your head is scrambled.” Bucky scoffs.
“‘Course I remember that, it was one of the many things I hated about that time, honestly.” He looked back to the coffee. “Besides going to war and all that…” He mutters in the cup, taking another sip.
“So…” You looked back up to him from your hands. “You don’t care that I thought she was cute?” Bucky snorted softly.
“Ace, when I was your age I dated a girl for her image to her parents. She literally begged me to be her ‘boyfriend’ so she could hide the fact that she was dating the pretty dame down the street.” The small smile on his face lifted every bit of nerves resting on your shoulders. “So yes, I don’t care that the coffee shop girl gave you her phone number.”
Sam grinned from ear to ear, silently sipping on his coffee while looking at you. Your smile was so wide it made your cheeks hurt, but in that moment you couldn’t care less. With a wet chuckle, you looked back down to the drink on the table.
“So what are you gonna do if I take her up on that offer? You can’t exactly beat her up, Mister ‘Chivalry still exists’.”
…
“Shit!”
- - - - - - -
Once Zemo came out of his luxuriously long shower, clad in a velvet robe and all, Bucky let everyone know the Wakandans were in Latvia. Then Karli decided to blow up a building, starting a trail of bodies under her belt, and Zemo decided to lose his filter entirely.
“The very concept of a super soldier will always trouble people. It’s that warped aspirations that led to Nazis, to Ultron, to the Avengers.”
“That’s my family you’re talking about, so if I were you I’d watch your damn mouth.” You snapped from the couch, looking the Baron up and down in hate. He sent you an innocent shrug as he continued to talk.
“The desire to become a super-human cannot be separated from supremacist ideologies. Anyone with that serum is inherently on that path,” He waved his hand around as he spoke. “She will not stop, she will escalate, until you kill her. Or she kills you.”
“Maybe you’re wrong, Zemo.” Bucky interrupted with a dead stare. “The serum never corrupted Steve.”
“Touche,” Zemo waved his finger around, a cookie resting at it’s tip. “Buth there has never been another Steve Rogers, has there?” The room stayed silent as he walked behind the bar, cluttering through the cupboards while chewing his cookie.
“Maybe we should give him to the Wakandans now?” You mused from the couch, eyes trailing Bucky as he walks to sit next to you. He hummed in thought.
“And you’d give up your tour guide?” Zemo tutted from the kitchen.
“Yes.” Bucky deadpanned. Sam cleared his throat from his seat.
“From my understanding, Donya is like a pillar of the community, right? So whenI was a kid, my TT passed away-”
“Your-” Bucky leaned his head backward with closed eyes. “Your TT?” You snorted from his side, trying desperately to hide your smile from the century old man.
“Yeah, my TT.”
“Who is your TT?” A shaky breath from your lips, leaning your forehand against the cool metal of his shoulder.
“Fine. When I was a kid my aunt passed away.” Bucky rolled his eyes and looked away.
“It’s okay, Sam. He’s just embarrassed he had to ask about it, is all.” Bucky sent you a blunt stare, earning him a snicker.
“When she passed away, the entire neighborhood got together for a ceremony that was like a week long, maybe they’re doing the same thing for Donya.”
“Worth a shot.”
“Your “TT” would be proud.” Zemo tossed a wrapped candy past Sam to you. You caught the sweet with ease, looking to the plastic wrapped candy and back up to Zemo in confusion. “Turkish delight.”
He plops one into his mouth.
“Irresistible.”
- - - - - - -
“Baa Baa black sheep, have you any wool?” Zemo walked from the entrance of the building towards the kids playing in the yard. “Yes sir, yes sir, three bags full.” He pulls up a stool and places it in front of a seat. “One for my master, one for the dame.” He pulls out a brown bag stuffed, turning it upside down and pouring piles of candies onto the stool. “One for the little girl who lives down the lane.”
You watch him from the wall, eyebrows furrowed in confusion as he hands out candies to each of the kids. He wears a sad smile on his face as he speaks.
“Turkish delight.” He looked down ever so slightly. “It was my son’s favorite.”
You hated Zemo. You hated his pretentiously smug face as he speaks, and the way he walks around as if he owns everything (you wouldn’t be surprised if he did). But the way he speaks about his son to the little girl, lips curled downwards ever so slightly and a sad glint in his amber orbs, it made him so utterly human. If you try hard enough to rid the underlying annoyance he brings with a glance, you could see a grieving man dealing with the tragic loss of his family.
He was a mystery. Why he was helping was clear, to rid the world of super soldiers once more. But he did not have to do it with Sam and Bucky. With all of his resources he could have them wiped with the snap of his fingers if he wanted to.
The hatred for Zemo will always be there when you glance at the Sokovian, but watching him sing and speak to the little girl with slumped shoulders and a sad smile, you could hold a little space in your heart to feel sorry for the broken Baron.
- - - - - - -
“You wanna see what someone can do with leverage?”
Tension was high with little leads, that is until Zemo found information to keep him from getting in the hands of the Dora milaje. Now, Sam spoke on the phone with Sharon in the other room and Bucky sat on the couch, steam comically coming from his ears as he glared at Zemo. With a sigh, you shook your head at the coated manon the couch and gently grabbed a glass of tea, moving to Bucky’s side and leaning over the counter. With a content sigh, you sip on the cherry blossom tea.
“The amount of testosterone in this room is choking me.”
- - - - - - -
“Karli Morgenthau is too dangerous for you guys to be pulling this shit!”
Here we go.
“Ah, how’d you find us now?” Bucky shouts, sarcasm dripping from his tone.
“Come on. You really think two Avengers can walk around Latvia without drawing attention?” John’s partner asked, clad in a bulletproof vest with ‘HOSKINS’ embroidered by it’s collar.
“No more keeping us in the dark.” John stated. You rolled your eyes and shook your head, the ego on this man was overflowing. “You can start by telling us why you broke him,” he pointed to Zemo. “Out of prison.”
“He did that himself, technically.” Bucky deadpanned.
“Oh, this better be an unbelievable explina-” His voice raised, walking into Bucky’s space ever so slightly. Your eyes narrowed on the man, and lingered on the shield on his back that wasn’t rightfully his to begin with.
“Hey. Take it easy before it gets weird.” Walker sighs and backs up, finally sitting still long enough to notice your presence next to Bucky.
“Who is this? She was in Baltimore too.” He looked as if he was digingin his head for a name, a distant memory that was never there to begin with.
“She,” Bucky pulls you closer to his side. “Is none of your concern.”
“This is a legal manhunt, anyone involved is my concern.”
“My name is (Y/N), now can we please get moving before we miss the window of opportunity?” You walked past where Bucky pulled you from, a hand challengingly placed on your hip. “Or do you want me to praise the floor you walk on like everyone else does to make you feel better?” Walker’s jaw sets.
“We have more pressing matters.” Zemo interjects. “I know where Karli is.” Walker pressed his hand against Zemo’s chest.
“Well where?”
“All we know is that it’s a memorial.” Sam stated, calm. How could he be calm right now? “We’re gonna intercept her there.”
“That means civilians. High risk of casualties.” Hoskins said, walking to follow the retreating Zemo.
“Alright, good. We’ll move in fast. Take her by surprise.”
“That’s not very Captain America of you, Walker.” You tease, an innocent smile on your face.
“How would you know?”
“Because he was my dad? Because he raised me when my family got killed in the Blip? I definitely knew him better than you did, douchebag.” You spat, walking ahead of the group and towards the little girl waiting. They continued to talk from behind you, Sam’s calm tone and Walker’s commanding nature filling your ears.
“Hey.” You squatted to her size and sent her a small smile. “I know my friend over there already told you not to tell me anything, but I just wanted to thank you for your help. I wanted to say goodbye the second I heard the news.” The girl smiled softly and nodded, before looking back to Zemo as he approached.
“Hello, my friend.” He said, pulling out a few bills and handing it to the girl. “This is for your family.” She snatches the bills before they could be taken away, stuffing them into her pocket. “Can you show us the way?” She nods and beckons him over.
You trail behind the group as they follow, not exactly in the mood to talk out the anger you felt towards the man a few feet in front of you in red-whie-and blue. Eventually, Walker’s partner falls a few paces slower and walks at your pace, still silent. A few moments pass before the silence breaks.
“You know, I’d be mad at him too.” He says. You raise your eyebrows at him in question.
“Really?”
“Well, if someone was walking around impersonating my dad, I wouldn’t be happy-go-lucky with the guy either.” You hummed, nodding your head in thought. He held his hand out. “Lemar Hoskins.”
You shook it firmly. “(Y/N) Rogers.”
“I would say I’m sorry for your loss, but I’m sure you’ve heard that too many times already.” A soft scoff fell from your lips.
“You could say that again.”
The girl led you into a church as you spoke with Lemar.
“Listen, Rogers.” You turned to the brown-eyed man. “I know John being Captain America makes you angry, but just know that he isn’t trying to replace Steve Rogers. He just wants to right his wrongs.” You sighed and turned to him fully.
“Lemar, I understand that he’s your best friend, and I don’t want to talk bad about him to you. But what he’s doing right now isn’t righting wrongs, he’s just trying to finish what he can’t.” You sent him a rueful smile while patting his shoulder. “You’re a good man, Hoskins. Don’t let John Walker get in the way of the good things you can do.”
- - - - - - -
With the promise of 10 minutes and a cuffed Zemo, the next things to happen could not have been more awkward. You, Bucky, and Lemar watch as Walker stares at the shield on the steps, breathing heavy and uneven. He stands abruptly, pacing back and forward while he mutters to himself.
Everyone in the room knew it, John Walker was bound to crack.
“No, no, no, this is a bad idea.” He turns to the door that Bucky guards.
“It hasn’t been ten minutes, John. Just sit tight.” Walker turns from the door and walks a few steps, then turns on his heel again.
“Don’t do that, don’t patronize me.” He spat. You raised your eyebrows in surprise.
“He knows what he’s doing, Walker.” You state from Bucky’s side. He stares at the clock on the wall, before tightening the shield across his arm. Lemar stands up from the wall with confusion written across his face.
“I’m going in.”
Bucky places a hand against John’s chest and lightly pushes him back. He looks the super soldier up and down in disgust.
“This is all really easy for you, isn’t it?” He spat, venom laced in every word. “All that serum running through your veins.” You straighten your posture ever so slightly as he speaks, the scowl on your face turning to a glare. “Barnes, your partner needs backup in there. Do you really want his blood on your hands?”
Bucky’s face falls, his jaw locking at the thought. You shake your head and bump his shoulder with your own. His gaze meets your and finds nothing but determination.
“Sam knows what he’s doing. He’s talked to people who need talking to, there will be no blood on anyone’s hands, including your own.” He nods sharpy, then turns back to Walker. Walker chuckles darkly, then reaches out and roughly grabs your wrist. You hiss, trying to pull your hand back. Bucky lept to action, pulling his arm off of you and examining your wrist.
“Lemar!” Walker.
Lemar looks at you with wide eyes, frantically darting from you to his friend. With no time to dwell, he follows the stars and stripes into the church. You groan and push Bucky towards the door.
“Go, I’ll be fine. Make sure they don’t do anything dumb.” He hesitates, then nods and follows the duo. With a sigh you rub at your wrists, ears deafened at the sound of dangling cuffs meeting the metal grate. You turn to see empty cuffs and groan.
“Fuck!”
- - - - - - -
Zemo weaved his ways through the maze of a plaza, leaving you lost in the depths until-
BANG
BANG BANG
BANG BANG
You sprinted in the direction of the gunshot, desperately hoping to not find Bucky or Sam on the floor in a pool of crimson. As you round a few more corners, you find Zemo on the floo, unconscious, and Walker hovering above him with a sinister sneer. With laboured breaths, you walk up to him and send him a glare, squatting to press your index and middle finger to Zemo’s pressure point. A dull heartbeat was found.
“He’s alive, unfortunately.” You muttered, glancing at the shattered glass and blue liquid sprawled across the floor. Footsteps echo against the tall walls, with Sam, Bucky, and Lemar walking into the room and taking in the scene.
“What’d we miss?”
- - - - - - -
Now sitting back in Zemo’s living space, you sat next to a sprawled Zemo with his had covered by a cloth, drink in hand. Sam sat across the room messaging Sharon.
“Were you ever offered it?” Zemo asked. You raise your eyebrow in confusion.
“What?” Sam asked, turning his head in your direction, You shrug slightly.
“The serum.”
“No.”
A moment of silence.
“If you had been, hypothetically, that is,” Zemo huffed. “Would you have taken it?”
“No.”
“No hesitation. That’s impressive.” He reaches to the cloth covering his forehead and takes it off slowly, wiping away at his brows before putting it away. “Sam. You can’t hold out hope for Karli. No matter what you saw in her, she’s gone.” You sighed softly and shook your head. “And we cannot allow that she and her acolytes become another faction of gods amongst real people.”
“Super soldiers cannot be allowed to exist.”
“It’s that how gods talk?” Zemo looked at the coffee table. “And if that’s how you feel, what about Bucky?” With a sigh, Sam stands and stretches his arms. “I’m gonna go to the bathroom.”
“Have fun.” You muttered. He deadpanned, rolling his eyes with a small fond smile before walking out of the room. You sighed softly and looked at your wrist, a blossoming bluish hue traveling around your cuff.
“How is your hand?” Zemo asked quietly. You looked at him through the corner of your eye and found concern across his face.
“It’s fine. I’ve had worse.” You stated, rubbing the sore area around your hand. He hummed in thought, but didn’t take his eyes off of you.
“You should not be here, (Y/N).” He said. You looked back to him silently. “This is not your fight, you have a lot more ahead of you.”
“I want to be here, Helmut.” He closed his eyes, a pained expression crossed his features. “I’m protecting what I have left, I can’t lose anybody else.”
“You remind me of my son.” You went silent, mouth clamped shut and teeth biting the inside of your cheek. “Always stubborn and determined.”
“What was his name?” You asked softly. Zemo cleared his throat.
“Carl. He would be about your age by now.”
“I’m sorry.”
Maybe a bigger part of your heart could compensate for the human side of Zemo. Enough for him and his grief, at least.
- - - - - - -
The Dora Milaje arrived soon after that, demanding Zemo and encountering John and Lemar in the process. While it was entertaining to watch the strong women of Wakanda overpower a man like John Walker, all amusement left the situation when Ayo, quite literally, disarmed Bucky.
“Bast damn you, James.” She spat, opening the bathroom door and finding Zemo missing.
Without a goodbye, the Wakandans march themselves out the doors. You watch Bucky place the arm back into its joint, clenching the metal fist and swinging it above his shoulder. With a shaky breath, you walked up to the distraught WWII veteran and leaned against his side, a physical reminder that he wasn’t alone. He nodded to himself and looked up at the empty bathroom, jaw set and Adam's apple bobbing.
“I can’t believe he pulled an El Chapo.”
“I can. Come one, let's go.”
- - - - - - -
Karli had gone too far.
With a threat directed towards Sam’s sister and nephews, she demanded a meeting with Sam alone. Bucky, of course, stated he was going to come with, meaning you were going to follow whether he liked it or not. There you were, clad in straps around your jean covered legs that held a few combat knives and a newly added pistol.
“Karli!” Sam exclaimed. She watched from the upper layed, watching you and Bucky with narrowing eyes. “You called my sister, that’s how we’re gonna play this?”
“Sam, I would never hurt her. I just wanted to understand you better.” She looked back at you. “I see you didn’t come alone.”
“You have to end this now.” Sam demanded, tone as calm as ever.
“I don’t wanna hurt you. You’re just a tool in the regimes I’m looking to destroy. You’re not hiding behind a shield. If I were to kill you, it’d be meaningless.”
Karli was only a few years older than you, and watching her talk about killing and death and threatening innocent lives for ehr cause, you could only think of what could have happened if Steve hadn’t found you all those years ago. You may have joined the flag smasher’s cause, become as far gone as Karli is now.
“Hey Sam,” Sharon spoke over the coms. “New Cap is moving. Looks like he’s found them, or maybe they’ve found him.”
Your eyes widened, and before you knew it you were darting down the stairs. Bucky leaped from the balcony, and Karli smashed against him mid-air. With ruble falling to the pavement, Sam looked to you through his red tinted goggles.
“I’ll send you the location, go!”With a hesitant nod, you bolted out of the foyer and into the crowded street of Latvia, looking to your phone for the coordinates of Walker. After they were imported to you, you were off with a dust trail behind you.
- - - - - - -
When you get to the address provided, you find an unhinged iron door. With your pistol out and it’s safety off, you lean against the door and push it forward, creating a soft creak as you walk into the building. There was obviously a fight beforehand, a smashed electrical box and an un-humanly curved pipe. With a newfound pit forming in your stomach, you walk up the many flights of stairs in precise movements. Each corridor was checked, each room cleared, and yet you still hadn’t found anybody, friend or foe. The building was like a ghost town.
Just as you were about to move to the next floor, a soft grunting pulled your attention. You walked quietly down the hall, noting the signs of struggle and the disregarded pistol by a pillar. Each sound of your slow footsteps echo off the empty walls, bringing a wince to your features with each stride. Finally, as the grunts grew louder and the sound of water dripping appeared, you caught sight of a restrained Lemar on the floor.
Without a second though, you glanced around the room for impending threats and dash towards the grounded man.
“Lemar!” You whisper-shouted, gaining his attention. He frantically searched for you, cheek pressed into the cold tile.
“Rogers?” He muttered. You sighed in relief, he was awake and okay enough to at least decipher it was you.
“The one-and-only.” With one swift motion, you pulled your sharpened combat knife from its spot at your thigh and slashed at the zip-ties around his wrists. He immediately rubs at them as you dive to his ankles, cutting the binds and helping him to his feet. He blinked rapidly, trying to gain focus.
“You good to keep going, Hoskins?” He nods, closing his eyes and tightening his grip on your upper arm.
“Yeah, lets go.”
And you were off once more, a new friend in toe.
- - - - - - -
Sounds of fighting echoed off the wall, causing you and Lemar to pick up your pace. The doors were already opened, allowing you to see knives flying and punches thrown. But one thing stuck out particularly, the firm grasp one of the flag smashers had around Walker's shoulders, and Karli readily moving towards him with a knife in her grasp.
Every bit of you tells you to stay where you are, to let what was going to happen happen, because that man isn’t Captain America and he doesn’t deserve the title. He’s not worthy to hold the shield, and if he wants it so bad he may as well die with it in his grasp. But even with the loud instinct to stay put running on repeat in your head, a quaint whisper over powers them all.
‘For as long as I can remember, I just wanted to do what was right.’
‘Do what was right.’
Damn Steve Rogers and his ability to guide you in death.
With all your speed, you rush in front of Walker and tackle Karli to the ground, crashing to the ground with a groan and all the air in your lungs leaving as soon as they come. Even through the striking ache in your back, you stand back up like a weed, a voice echoing as if you spoke “I could do this all day”.
Karli let out an animalistic growl and turned to you, fist curled in a ball. She reeled back, but before she could make contact to your chest, you were shoved to the ground roughly. A sickening crack rang through your ears as you lifted your head, followed by a thud against the pillars in the room.
It had all happened so fast, You were standing, then you were on the floor watching Lemar fly through the air like a puppet on a string. Lemar stilled against the pillar, blood dripping down his bottom lip and head lolled to the side, neck too loose to the right.
Everyone stilled, Karli ripping off her mask to reveal her frightened expression, Sam and Bucky turning head on to the body on the floor. John yanked himself out of the flash smasher’s grip and walked tentatively towards his fallen friend.
“Lemar.” He stated, eyes widened. “Lemar, Lemar. Lemar.” He patted the ebony man’s cheek, desperate for a reaction, anything to prove that air still circulated through his lungs, that his eyes would one day open again. “Lemar.”
With a pale face and wet cheeks, you crawl across the floor and towards the limp body, chin wobbling ever so slightly.
Karli and her teammates ran down the stairs and out of the building, Sam and Bucky reluctantly following, Bucky’s gaze lingering on your frantic eyes and quivering bottom lip. As they run, John’s stare goes empty, before he stands and launches himself through the glass window in pursuit.
Through the whole thing, you weren’t able to take your eyes off of the fallen friend. You brought his limp torso away from the dented cement and into your lap, trying oh-so desperately to brush off his stiffening limbs.
“You weren’t supposed to do that, Hoskins.” You whisper, tears flowing down your cheeks once again. “Damnit, no one else was supposed to die!” Your mangled cries go unheard as you sob into your blood stained palms.
The authorities find you in the building a few minutes later, prying the still warm corpse from your arms. You sat along the floor with a haunted look in your eye, picking at the dried blood across your fingertips. Soon enough, you work the courage to pull your phone out of your pocket to call Bucky, only to find a news notification on your lock screen.
CAPTAIN AMERICA IN CUSTODY, CHARGED FOR SECOND-DEGREE MURDER
Your throat went tight, bottom lip secured under your teeth, until it all spilled over. Ugly sobs rip from your chest as you sit by ambulances in the street, gaining attention of civilians and medics alike. None of their sympathetic looks mattered to you, because-
Lemar was dead.
John publicly killed a man.
You don’t know where Bucky is (Maybe he’s hurt? Dead like the flash smasher against the fountain)
Captain America’s-Steve’s legacy was tainted with blood.

i finally got around writing this fic [loosely] inspired by that one time Mark Ruffalo spoiled the first few minutes of Thor: Ragnarok on an Instagram livestream
Tell The World (Reader x Peter Parker[P])
You shook your head in disbelief and amusement. “You really are something else, Parker.”
“Okay,” he shot you a look. “Remember to not call me by my actual name?”
You rolled your eyes playfully at his needless concern. “Yeah, yeah, okay. Just hurry it up, would ya?”
You heard a chuckle from the boy before he finally put his phone against his torso, just below where his Spiderman emblem is embedded on his suit, attaching the device with his webs.
“Wow. Seriously?” You remarked again.
“What? Improvise, adapt, overcome.” He said with a tint of smirk on his tone. “I’m not gonna hold my phone while I swing, that’s like texting while driving!” With that he pushed himself off the ledge, catching his own body midair as he put his web shooters to use.
You could only shake your head at your friend’s antics before following suit, your powers keeping you from falling to the ground below.
————————–
It was a pretty quick save, the burglars were amateurs and nervous. You and Peter took your sweet time in taking them down though, it was always fun to mess with some criminals every now and then (because between me and you, the Avengers are not always the best people to play pranks on).
By the time the police arrived, the culprits were already safely apprehended and all that was left to do for them was take the men to custody. Your partner was talking to one of the officers as you finished giving your own statement to another and you decided to check your phone -thank Stark for giving you pockets on your suit.
Your eyebrows creased in confusion when you saw 12 missed calls from MJ, 7 from Ned, and almost fifty text messages from the both of them.
Ne®d: please tell me ure w peter
Ne®d: oh my god this cant be happening
Ne®d: Y/N ANSWER MY CALLS PLEASE
MJ♕: beat peter’s ass for me
MJ♕: how is it possible for one to be so stupid

MJ♕: y/n i dont like phone calls u know that
MJ♕: but please just once, answer me bitch
You were about to call MJ back when you finally saw a notification that wasn’t from either of your friends.

“Oh shit.” You muttered under your breath, staring at your screen.
“What? What is it?” You heard a familiar voice approaching you. “Everything alright?”
You felt like your eyes were about to pop out when you turned. Your gaze immediately going to the cellphone still plastered to Peter’s suit, feeling the stare of the camera on you. Your arm shot up in a pointless attempt of covering the camera and ending the stream.
Peter opened his mouth to question you but you beat him to it by coming close to his figure and whispering in his ear harshly, “you went live on the wrong account, stupid.”
The mechanical eyes of his suit’s mask widen almost comically. He ripped off the phone on his chest and ended the livestream with a quick press of a button. At this point, his hands were trembling and you could see his jaw was slack opened beneath the mask.
“I- wh- h-” Peter stuttered, his brain was going into overdrive and you don’t know whether to feel bad or laugh your ass off.
You still haven’t decided either when the phone on Peter’s hand buzzed to life. The screen showed a picture of possibly the last person Peter would want to talk to at the moment. You didn’t think it was possible but his eyes went even wider as his head shot up to look at you, silently begging for your help.
You cringed in sympathy before slowly backing away. “Good luck?”
“I- wha- you can’t leave me to deal with this alone!” The phone was still intensely buzzing against the skin of his palm.
You ignored him and instead turned your body around, making the boy groan in exasperation.
He finally slid the answer button of his phone. With a nervous waver in his voice he answered “hi, Mr. Stark-”
You snickered. Gathering your powers to lift you off the ground, you left your friend on the sidewalk of the grocery store hoping that the abomination people call pigeons haven’t finished your dinner yet.

Tell The World (Reader x Peter Parker)
