bringing up Halo 3's writing again, but this time a small part of it that i really appreciate and i don't remember anyone talking about before
the crow's nest intro cutscene is ok (aside from Miranda forcing a weird nonsensical one liner at the end) but my favorite part is after the Prophet of Truth's broadcast is over and Johnson says "Cocky bastard just loves to run his mouth"
and as he says that he pointedly looks toward the Arbiter, and this tiny action says so much about the relationship these two have. Likely, they've spent all the time between the end of Halo 2 and now fighting and planning together, and are pretty much the origins of the human/sangheili alliance. That doesn't mean they have to like each other (Johnson even states this at the end of Halo 2) but already we see him trying to find common ground with Arby.
Like he knows what happened between Truth and Arbiter, between Truth and his people. Johnson is talking directly to the Arbiter here as he tears down and belittles his former leader as a form of comradery, and it's so subtle that i wonder if whoever wrote it thought about it as hard as i have
Luzu: Yeah, you know, I told people that I would happily make some dictionaries so that you guys have expressions to use, like you can have a book in your inventory that you open to have like basic Spanish stuff, I'm gonna mess his one, like his -
Phil: Oh yes, please.
Luzu: - book up, and I'm gonna make all like, have no meaning.
Phil: Please give him like, a - a silly book, a - give him a silly one.
Luzu: Yeah. How do I pronounce his name, Wilbur, or Wilb? Or Wil?
Phil: You got it right the first time! Yup, it's Wilbur.
Luzu: Oh yeah? Alright.
Phil: Yup yup! Or just Wil. Either - either works.
Luzu: I wanna have to find a way to, yeah, have a cold revenge. Like, he - he may be laughing today, and, "heehee, haha!" we did like this small joke, and in 20 days I'm gonna destroy everything that he loves in this server.
most infinity focused stuff i see is about the softness and intimacy of allowing one person to touch you, allowing the most important people in, which i get totally absolutely valid real and peak. the idea that you can prevent anyone from getting close but you consciously allow touch from a specific person is so good
but i also feel like geto would be like "hey turn off your infinity for a second" and gojo would, expecting a smooch or smth but then he'd smack the back of gojo's head unprovoked
I'm losing my mind with people calling Tintin and Haddock "father and son goals" because I don't know about you guys but I want my dad safe at home and not following me around when I do shit I am sure he wouldn't approve or like
Ok you know what's kinda funny about "Jackson's Diary", or rather "plot twist-y"?
So, ok, imma be honest, when I started the comic I thought it was bl or lgbt or something. Be it the art or the description or the fact that everything I read is gay, I thought this was some kind of enemies to lovers/as magic stuff is going on around the school or something
I really thought the 2 mains were gonna end up together
And I wasn't the only one who thought that cause a lot of the comments were talking about it
But no. Soon you realize they're all very straight, exer is still in love with his ex girlfriend and Jackson kinda gets in a love triangle with exer's ex and the girl exer bullied last year. Also it's set in like- the 80s? Soo. They probably don't know what gay is. (Or they ignore it yknow)
But....
"Wasn't David bi in the canvas version?" said the comments "Yeah he was I think he liked Exer"
So then I'm trying to figure out if he's bi, and some chapters later he's literally making heart eyes around exer but like, in the background
And he's not that important at the time so I'm like oh ok great he's the comedic relief stereotypical gay character?
And exer is like... straight and in love with David's twin sister so nothing will happen right?
Jokes on me
Like 100 chapters later and this is Exer's reaction to David saying they're friends
The gay panic
Had me fooled there honestly
Also ok, I know my post is focused around the gay romance here, but like the comic is really interesting I do recommend it
Jackson goes to a new school and he is the only one who can see some kind of "green magic" messing around with his daily life
Shit happens, he makes friends, he gets into love triangles as I mentioned before (not for that long, thankfully) he gets into fights and makes new friends again
The characters are all very interesting, I was gonna say nice, but then realized half of them are assholes, currently it seems like they're trying to be better people tho
And even though it's set in the 80s it seems most of the main characters were accepting of the lgbt ones (well ok so far 2 people know about it so yknow, ) the only assholes were some bullies literally called Rick and Marty who used gay as a slur or something like 50 chapters ago
Well, and I can't really say anything much without spoiling more, I've already talked enough about their sexualities I'm not telling you what's happening with the green stuff
Hywel is inspired by a mix of my issues with stories with nonhuman protagonist/about nonhumans becoming human AND vet posts ive seen warning people about the dangers of anthropomorphisizing animals. Its fine to joke about your pets doing things out of spite or other human emotions, it does put you at risk of not being able to read their body language correctly. Cats dont cry out of sadness, a cat crying, with actual tears streaming down its face, is a sign of a medical issue. A dog smiling isn't doing it bc its happy, it means its nervous. Not being able to spot these is bad, and sometimes even dangerous, for you and the animal.
If you never get past Hywel's human appearance and treat him like one its like getting a reactive dog, doing zero research or training, and then taking it to a dog park. If Hywel mauls someone in town then its on you.

3 ships : Uh. Mmmh. Uhhh. The only things that come to mind r remnants from my time i the Elder Scrolls fandom - The Hero of Kvatch/Martin Septim, the Last Dragonborn/Miraak, and. Baurus/Captain Steffan they're random fucking Blades from Oblivion don't ask me why I'm shipping them.
First ship : Man I have no idea. Statistically it was probably either Ewilan and Salim back when I read the Ewilan books as a kid, or a ship from the Knights of Emerald although I couldn't tell you who.
Last song : According to Spotify, it was Let the world burn by Chris Grey. According to my phone, it was The City Gates by Jeremy Soule.
Currently reading : Life in a medieval village by Frances & Joseph Gies. I am very slow. It's not bad, it's interesting, I just can't fucking focus on shit.
Last movie : Haven't watched movies since the other time i visited my parents sooo it's still A Better Tomorrow by John Woo lol
Currently craving : Beer, which is a terrible idea. Luckily I am in pyjamas, and i have commitments tomorrow which means I won't give in.
Tagging : uhhh I don't think I know 9 people who are chill with being tagged. Anyway i'm bothering @logarithmicpanda @psychofullmoonwerewolf @lee-thee-bee @strawberry-possum @isabellebissonrouthier @nerdlemons
