The Kwamis! Some of these came easier than others, but since Angelic Layer has no magic involved, all the kwamis became human~ They won't be very prevalent, they're mostly here to fill in background character roles - shop clerks, MCs Tournament Directors, fans - so they won't have a whole lot of speaking roles (aside from, you know, the MCs who're there to commentate on the fights lol). But I thought I'd give them all a nice nod in the story somewhere.
As expected, Tikki and Plagg are the main MCs. Marinette and Adrien's fights will be going on concurrently so Tikki will be commentating Marinette's fights while Plagg commentates on Adrien's. They'll have the most dialogue of the kwamis, so I do want them to have unique ways of discussing what they're seeing.
Pollen will be working directly for the Bourgeois'. As a VIP with a direct relationship with the international director of Angelic Layer, Chloe has her own private practice layer in her home and Pollen is in charge of it's upkeep and maintenance. She matches Armand the Bulter's levels of competence.
Trixx is a Rena Rouge mega fan. They've been following Alya's blog for as long as they can remember and are mega stoked that Alya moved to their city. When Alya starts to doubt herself, it's Trixx's voice that can be heard cheering her on to not give up.
Nooroo and Duusu are servants in the Agreste Estate. Unknown to Adrien, they are fully aware of his sneaking around to play and the two do what they can to make excuses and deflect Nathalie when Adrien isn't where he's supposed to be. They're rooting him on from the shadows!
Wayzz is the adult son of Marianne and Fu. He brings them to Angelic Layer fights against his will because the two really enjoy them. The two seem to be really invested in Ladybug and Chat Noir's career (and the behind the scenes shenanigans that they secretly spy on).
Longg is Kagami's bodyguard. Like Nooroo and Duusu, they are fully aware of what Kagami is doing behind her mother's back and feigns ignorance when Kagami pulls something..."sneaky" to get to a fight secretly.
Here's where we get into some existing jobs from the show:
Orikko and Kaalki are the "Layer Hot Girls (and boy)". lol I just thought it was funny that Angelic Layer even has them.
Mullo is the sales clerk at the Princess Piffle store (the store where you can buy your Angel and all the accessories). All of them lol. Mullo and her many many sisters who look just like her.
Barkk and Fluff take similar but still different roles (the uniforms are ALMOST the same but there are some tiny differences). So Barkk is the receptionist at the Practice Ring (literally you pay to reserve a mini-layer to practice on) while Fluff is the waitress/cashier at the cafeteria at the Tournament Center.
(and back to making shit up lol)
Daizzi is a nurse where Rose goes to the hospital and she has segmental localized vitiligo. Rose is particularly close to Daizzi since she helps Rose make her donations to the hospital.
Sass is the backstage directory, aka, the guy who makes things run. He has an earpiece that has the same diamond pattern as his pants on it! The anime does show one person who helps backstage, but I wanted to have a little fun with Sass's look and tie in to him being "in charge" of the kwamis.
Ziggy works at Socqueline's family art supply shop, which is frequented by Angelic Layer players who are on a bit of a budget. They love talking with the customers about their angels, though mostly the design part.
Stompp is Ivan's foster mother and Roarr his foster sister (Stompp's bio-daughter). I actually didn't think of what kind of job this outfit would be good for, but I think she'd make a good security guard - usually working at rock concerts, which she bonds with Ivan over, but she's also been hired for Angelic Layer tournaments. Sometimes sore losers get a little...violent.
Roarr falls in love with Juleka's Angel Purple Tigress immediately thanks to her pre-existing love of tigers in general. She's even bold enough to proclaim her love to Juleka herself!
Xuppu is Ondine's sibling and a fan of King Monkey, though they'll go out of their way to make fun of Kim himself. Secretly, they're very invested in Kim's career and get very upset on his behalf when he loses.

red in his cheeks, green in his eyes┊i. rin
✮ tags. . (18+), fluff (sfw), not established relationship, all characters are adults. no use of pronouns but afab!reader in mind, reader wears a dress and earrings.
✮ summary. . you always enjoy making your soon-to-be boyfriend blush; it's so simple that it's become a habit.
✮ wc. . 1k
✮ notes. . i want to make him blush and make him so uncomfortable that he doesn't know what to do with himself, my bad lskd | divider creds: cafekitsune.
Rin Itoshi is many things.
Some people may point out how good a soccer player he is, others will comment that he is cold and unfriendly. If you ask him himself he will tell you that he is (probably) resentful and vengeful.
However to you, while many of these things are true (especially the part about him being cold), you will highlight how good of a listener he is, especially since he prefers to stay quiet while listening to you direct the conversation where you want it to go and how you want it to go, providing occasional monosyllables or some vibration that comes from his throat rather than his chest. He will make contributions to the conversation about his personal life or his day exclusively if you ask directly about it.
Although the last few weeks, he has been a bit more talkative than usual (that is, complete sentences without you having to ask him about his day first).
Rin is someone sweet, at least in his own way. His good listening makes him surprise you with details you're not expecting, like remembering important dates or little details of what you told in a babbling outburst that you barely remember now and you like him, you genuinely do. You're able to see through him, really see what's hidden in his chest behind those layers of hatred and rancor that hide pain and Rin hates it.
Among the long list of things he hates, is your way of being able to read him so easily. Recognizing why there are wrinkles on his forehead, his wrinkled nose or pursed lips. He dislikes how gentle you are when you approach him, you treat him with the same gentleness in which a butterfly would sit on a flower and that settles his stomach, tightens his gut and makes him feel sick; to the point where he claims he has a fever, it's not normal the way his whole body suddenly starts to burn, his forehead and ears, his neck and chest tight, along with sweaty palms.
He dislikes how nice you are to others when most don't deserve it and also how pretty you look when you wear those summer dresses because they make others look, when no one else should be able to admire how beautiful you are.
There are many things Rin detests about himself, his brother and certain parts of your personality, but never you, or your presence in his room late at night or your high, excited laughter that comes straight from your stomach. He could never hate you, not when you look at him like you do now, with dilated pupils and eyes full of genuine concern. He didn't remember what it was like to be treated like that, not at least not since he was a child.
“You didn't have to come see me.” Rin says it more out of concern —you are sick, after all— but he tries to sound nonchalant, ignoring the incessant drumming of his heart. His crossed arms rest against his chest as he leans his body weight against the wall.
“Of course I had to, it's your last game, I had to come give you your good luck gift,” you say, a smile etched into your words and with a voice heavy with a cold, you almost sound like you just woke up.
It's halftime, and Rin has slipped out of the locker room so he can see you in the semi-dark hallway. Even in the poor lighting, the earrings he gave you for your birthday sparkle with excitement, a nice touch that goes so well with your impish smile and the outfit you've chosen for him.
“Gift?” His greenish eyes go to yours after scanning (he hopes slyly) your figure.
“Hm.” You purr as you lean in a little closer, invading his personal space. You take his arm, freeing it from the shield that covered his ribs, to intertwine your fingers with his. That simple contact is enough for the dizziness and numbness to take hold of him again.
His fingers tighten under the heat of your touch. And when you lean in for a quick kiss, his whole body stiffens, his eyes open wider, unlike yours. You're so close he can feel your chest press against his, as your perfume envelops him with a familiar warmth. Your lips linger together for an instant, not deepening the kiss that seems to be the promise of something more.
You've been dating for a few weeks, though calling it “dating” is debatable. You're still in that unlabeled limbo where you're two friends holding hands, shopping together, going to the movies, and occasionally sharing a kiss. Sometimes you'd like to know what Rin is thinking….
“If you win you'll have more of these,” as you pull away from him you lick your bottom lip, still tasting him in your mouth.
…Especially at times like these, where his cheeks are so red from a simple touch, where he knows how to hide his nervousness so well and yet his face always gives it away.
His eyes drift to the end of the hallway, to where the light of the stadium devours the shadows. From there, the bustle of the stands comes muffled, almost drowned out by the buzz of adrenaline coursing through your body.
Rin pulls away, pushing aside the fingers you had grabbed and allowing them to return to their usual space, on his chest. Then he heads toward the locker room, perhaps to wipe off his sweat and get some water before returning to the field. Before disappearing completely, he stops to look at you. Your hands hang clasped together, and your smile —that smile that warms his body— seems to light up as if all the lights are on you.
“Watch me score the next goal for you.” Your smile widens, revealing your pearly teeth, and Rin wants to die right there. The next words he tries to say get stuck in his throat a couple of times, as if an invisible hand is squeezing his neck.
“You look beautiful,” he says, with a heated face. “But I'm still pissed that you're here while you're still sick.” And maybe, just maybe, those are the most romantic words you've heard from him in weeks.
You know how hard it is for Rin to open up and express how he feels. Even so, you're willing to wait for him until he's ready to admit what you both already know. In the meantime, you'll continue to relish every opportunity to make him blush or feel uncomfortable in the sweetest way possible.

If you’re still taking dad Joe requests: Amara asking Joe during bed time if he still loves mommy bc she saw them arguing earlier in the day, and he would be like shattered she even thought that
"daddy," amara's tiny voice cut through the dimly lit room, her eyes wide and curious, "do you still love mommy?"
joe's hands paused in their task of straightening her bed sheets. he looked down at his little girl, her dark hair gently tamed into neat curls. "of course, i do, pumpkin," he replied, trying to keep his voice light, "you and mommy are the most important people in the whole world to me."
amara tucked her thumb into her mouth, a habit she hadn't quite outgrown. "okay."
joe sat down on the edge of her bed, his heart feeling heavier than his words. he took her hand and gently coaxed the thumb out, replacing it with a gentle stroke of her cheek. "what makes you ask that, pumpkin?"
amara's eyes searched his, looking for the truth. "i heard you guys today," she whispered, "you were both loud, and mommy looked sad."
joe took a deep breath, trying to figure out how to explain the complexities of adult relationships to a four-year-old. "sometimes, mommy and i have arguments," he said, "but that doesn't mean we don't love each other. it's like when you don't want to eat your vegetables, but i still love you."
amara nodded thoughtfully. "but you guys were really loud," she said, her voice quieter now. "it scared me."
joe felt his stomach drop. he had no idea your argument had been so intense that it had scared his daughter. "i'm so sorry, pumpkin," he said, his voice thick with regret, "we didn't mean to scare you. do you want mommy to come in too?"
amara nodded, her eyes still wide. you appeared in the doorway, your expression a mix of concern and apology. you walked over to the bed and sat down on the other side, taking amara's other hand. "hey, baby," you said, your voice soothing, "what's going on?"
"amara heard us earlier," joe said, his eyes flicking up to yours, "and she wanted to make sure everything's okay between us."
your eyes grew soft as you looked at amara. "oh, of course, everything's okay, baby," you said, your voice filled with warmth, "i'm sorry if it scared you."
amara looked back and forth between you two, her thumb finding its way back to her mouth. you leaned over and kissed her forehead. "we're a family, and we love each other," you assured her.
"no matter what happens, we're always going to be here for you," joe added, "you're the most important thing to us, pumpkin."
amara's gaze shifted between joe's eyes and yours, searching for the truth. after a moment, she nodded and pulled her thumb out of her mouth. "okay," she agreed, her eyes drooping as she began to relax into the warm embrace of her mother and father's love.
"sleep tight, pumpkin," joe whispered. "mommy and i love you to the moon and back."

hiii! I was wondering if I could request MK having a crush on his coworker?? For example like- Reader works as a waiter in pigsys and Mk admires them a little too much
Can you make it spicy too in a way?? Sorry if that sounds demanding 😭😭
Yhank you!! Have a nice day<333
waiter, waiter! one serving of my heart, please (mk x reader)
content warnings: gender neutral reader, second pov (you/your), reader and Pigsy's relationship is strictly professional/no solid relationships between them, mk is in love
author's notes: twas a bit hesitant to write this cause it kinda reminded me of an asshole i once met in my older server bleghhhhh :< also sorry, i couldn't make it spicy agh
MK remembered when you first walk through the door. It was another Tuesday afternoon, bored out of his mind after another day of delivering noodles and saving the city. He'd only just returned, filling in Tang about the demons he came across while Pigsy made something in the kitchen.
And you were there. A bit dull-eyed compared to what MK remembered, but still wearing that smile he'd grown so fond of. You'd raised your hand in greeting, asking for the owner of the establishment you'd enter.
He remembered being too dazed to really focus on the conversation. All he knew was that he'd call for Pigsy, then spent the next hour or so watching you from a corner. It wasn't until you had taken your leave did he realize to ask, and he turned to Pigsy for answers.
“Oh, don't look at me like that.” Pigsy had sighed, sliding a bowl of freshly cooked noodles towards him. “You've been busier than ever with your training. And since we don't want a repeat of last time―” Last time meaning the clone incident. He still couldn't get over obese Delivery Clone trying to eat Pigsy… “―I figured a helping hand around here would do the trick.”
MK pretended to pout. “So you're replacing me?”
“No, dumbass.” Pigsy threw a wet cloth at Tang. It landed with ease, and the scholar whined. “Just that you don't have to stress too much about not doing enough around here. (Name)’ll work in your free time, and you theirs.”
It didn't seem like too bad of an arrangement. There were days he couldn't be around, swamped with training or some monster that wouldn't leave the city alone, and Pigsy would need an extra hand to help around. He could've asked Mei though, but he figured that the pig demon also wanted to offer employment to anyone in need of it.
It's just that, while MK had eaten his noodles and stared through the window to past the time, he really thought you were interesting, and the plans Pigsy had meant that, most likely, neither of you would get to speak together.
And that sucked. Because, once MK had the idea (and mere audacity, to quote a certain hot tempered bull prince) of befriending someone, not even the Buddha could pry the thought from his head.
Which in turn, lead to certain events, as of now. Hanging around during his own breaks to catch a mere glimpse of you, trying to play off the ‘cool’ hero act only to have his own staff knock him over in the process, god awful flirting attempts (seriously, those lines were bad bad), to name a few of the things he'd done. That wasn't even mentioning the times he accidentally held you up during rush hour, earning a scolding from Pigsy and customers that were completely rude to you and made MK feel so guilty in the aftermath.
With that last one, you'd think that such behavior would be enough to put anyone off. No sane adult liked getting yelled at for actions that weren't their fault, especially from their boss.
By the gods, you were a literal saint. And MK would be damn well lying if he said he wasn't head over heels in love, and that was saying something.
But, no. You still smiled at MK every morning when clocking in for work, and you still laughed at his bad jokes and horrible flirting lines. The rare off chance you two spoke, you were always so nice, not even bringing up the fact he'd gotten you into so much trouble over and over again.
“You're going on your lunch break?” He asked, waiting outside for you to show your face once again. Today had been his day off, but with Mei busy and the city surprisingly peaceful for the time, what better way to spend it than with you?
The question was a bit…too obvious, honestly. Of course you'd be going on your lunch break at this hour, how would he not know when he worked for Pigsy at the same time?? Plus, it's not like he hadn't hassled Pigsy before about your work hours and the time you'd take your breaks so…
You raised your head and glanced at him, nodding slightly. “Yes. Would you like to join me?”
In his head, MK was jumping for joy. He had been planning on asking you if he should join, but then you went right ahead and invited him first. This was progress at its finest, and MK was nabbing at this opportunity faster than lightning.
Just as quickly, he responded, “I mean, if you wouldn't mind me, I don't mind! Like, if you want me, haha….”
He could imagine Mei looking down at him in disappointment. <Seriously, confidence is key. You're the Monkie Kid, what do you have to be worried about!?
That was easy for her to say! She was always cool, unlike MK who'd embarassing himself in front of you so many times….
Lost in thought, he hadn't realized you'd stopped walking until he nearly tripped over a table. You had the kindness to grab at him before he fell, offering your sweet, signature smile while he took a seat, nervously laughing.
“So….”
“So…”
How awkward. MK played with his sleeves, watching you pop open a box of noodles from Pigsy and eat. How the fuck do you even start conversations again?
As if you read his mind, you raised your head and gave him another smile. How he wished he had a notebook and pen around, if only to sketch you with such a peaceful expression.
“You can speak, if you'd like,” you said assuringly, picking up a mushroom from your bowl. MK was never a fan of vegetables, but watching you stick it into your mouth made him wonder if he should try eating some. “I'll listen. ‘kay?”
So thoughtful. “O..okay…”
And boy did MK speak. He chattered endlessly about anything that came to mind, gauging how you reacted carefully. Sometimes, you'd finish chewing to comment or too, other times, your expression would change with whatever he was talking about, nodding along in agreement with his peeves and then shaking your head when someone else supposedly did him wrong.
At some point, he'd completely trailed off topic, staring at your lips wrapped around your chopstick. He was technically still yapping, except that now―
“What did you just say?”
He blinked.
What…..what had he been talking just now? Was it something that upsetted you!? Fuck, he's such an idiot, allowing his mouth to blabber―
“You…like me?”
….
…
MK stood to bolt.
It turned out you were a lot faster than you gave him credit for. You had already grabbed him by the collar, yanking him backwards and onto the seat―this time, next to you.
“MK.”
Dear god, he wanted to disappear. Why hadn't Monkey King taught him one of his 72 transformations?? Fleeing from this situation would be a whole lot faster….
“MK.” You repeated his name, turning his head to look at you. “I heard you, you know.”
MK sighed. “Listen, I'm so sorry―”
“Why? Who said I didn't like you too?”
“―like, I know, I know, you're not here for relationships or any of that sort, and I shouldn't―what did you just say?”
You smiled slightly. “I said, I like you too.”
“Oh.”
“...”
“...”
And then MK fainted.
“MK? Are you alright?”

(NOTE: this particular ask is for when Leon and Diane are grown up, not teenagers or anything. Although some of the lighter asks of this post may apply across all ages, some more adult topics do not.) Is your OC romantic in the traditional sense? Do they enjoy giving or receiving gifts of flowers or confectionary? Or are there other courtship traditions from their culture of origin that are important to them? Leon is not romantic in the traditional sense. If he is/ever was, it's because he tailored his romance to what Diane most positively responded to. He has no framework of what true romantic actions are beside maybe innocent physical contact.
How important is sex to them in a relationship? Do they see it as something essential to their happiness? Would they be able to remain in a monogamous relationship with someone they loved without sex? I don't think Leon would be that down bad. What he's looking for the most is an emotional connection. That's what he's been after his whole life. He would be perfectly happy in a monogamous relationship with Diane with or without that level of physical intimacy.
How do they feel about public displays of romantic affection? Does it make them uncomfortable? How do they feel if a romantic partner kisses them in public? Leon hates PDA. Even with Diane, the most he'll do is hold her hand.
Do they believe in love at first sight? Have they ever developed a crush or romantic (or erotic) fixation upon a stranger based on their appearance alone? Unless it's toward Diane, then no.
How closely is their opinion of their own beauty (or lack thereof) linked to their confidence? Do they see themselves as more or less worthy of love or sex based on how attractive they feel? I think that since Leon already doesn't think too highly of himself, that it would bleed into this area of his life too. I think it's less about attractiveness and more of how he is as a person. He may not feel worthy of intimacy with Diane because of
Philia – Affectionate, Platonic Love.
Does your OC have a Best Friend? If they do then how long have they known each other and how did they meet? If they don't then do they have a close group of friends they love equally? Or are they more of a loner? Leon has never really had a 'best friend' outside of Diane. He's known her since they were both tweens, and they met at school for special children with superpowers (or the elite)
Does your OC find it easy to make friends? Or are there barriers to them doing so? If so then are these due to issues of inclination, communication, or something else entirely? Leon finds it hard to make friends with other people because not only is he quiet and 'weird' to other people, but also he doesn't really like other people.
What qualities does your OC most value in a friend? Loyalty? Shared sense of humour? Or something else? He absolutely values loyalty above all things.
Is your OC able to build close friendships with people very different from themselves? Perhaps in terms of culture, age or personality? No. Leon is an outcast in general.
What is their most fervent wish for their best friend(s)? How far would they go to make it happen? He wants Diane to love him. He would go so far to make it happen, even if he sacrificed what little personality he thinks he has.
Storge – Unconditional, Familial Love.
Did your OC's parents love them unconditionally? If so then has this helped them feel confident as an adult? If not then how has this affected them? What were the conditions their family attached to their relationship? Leon's foster parents don't even have a conditional love for him. What he is to them is something to show off; something to say 'look at how we took this poor child in, and turned him into a success'. As an adult, he carries part of this relationship over to his relationship with Diane. He wants to impress her, to make her proud of him. Even if they're already married and he does have her in a sense, he's afraid of losing that love.
Does your OC have children? If so then how fiercely do they love them? If they have more than one then do they love them all equally? If they do not have children then is this part of their future plans? Leon as an adult would have children with Diane. He loves them, yes, but not as much as his wife.
How far does parental approval (imagined or expressed) impact upon their current sense of self-worth? What might they sacrifice or attempt to achieve in order to ensure the approval of their parents?
Does your OC have any siblings? If so then did their parents have a favourite growing up? Has their relationship with their sibling changed in adulthood? If they don't have any siblings then do they perhaps feel they have missed out on an important relationship? Do they have any especially close friends who go some way towards filling that role? He does not have siblings, and he doesn't particularly care.
Ludus – Playful, Flirtatious Love.
Does your OC have any particular favourite chat up lines? If not for themselves then perhaps ones they have suggested to a friend? How effective do these tend to be? N/A, he doesn't know how to flirt.
Is your OC particularly skilled at flirting? Have they had to practice this or does it just happen naturally? Nope ☠️
How does your OC feel about one night stands? Have they ever enjoyed a night of passionate romance with a stranger? Is this something they are quite keen on recreationally? Or only something they might engage in under specific circumstances (such as the eve of a battle or after a difficult breakup)? Leon hates the idea of a one night stand. He wouldn't do it with anybody, but if he were to do that with Diane I think he would just feel empty. Maybe even kind of cheap for doing that. He would feel he had ruined everything and felt shame for going with base instincts.
Who was your OC's first crush? How do they feel about it now? Diane. And he's still obsessed with her.
What seduction techniques are most likely to be effective when it comes to your OC? Are there some things guaranteed to get them going? Or are they immune to such things? I can't think of anything because Diane isn't exactly a master at that stuff either. They would both just have to be frank with each other. Maybe Diane might be better at it (which isn't saying much. Leon is super awkward.)
Pragma – Committed, Long-Lasting Love.
Is your OC in a committed long-term relationship (or relationships)? If so then what has contributed to this relationship lasting so well? If they are not in such a relationship, then is this something that saddens them or which they regret? Depends on the Au. Sometimes he is, sometimes he isn't. When he gets lucky and he is, it's the highlight of his life and the reason why he does anything. When he gets *really* unlucky, he either takes out his anger on other people or takes his grief out on himself.
What is the biggest challenge that your OC has had to overcome in a long-term relationship or friendship? What helped them get through this? N/A
Are your OC's parents still together? To what degree do they look to their own parents as a model for their own ideal relationship? N/A ... (bio parents) his father is dead and he got taken away from his mother.
After the initial fires of passion cool to some degree, what would keep your OC engaged in a relationship? Shared goals? Similar values? Or contented companionship? N/A, he's always on fire.
What importance or value does your OC attach to marriage? Do they believe that it is important to make a public statement of commitment to another person (or persons)? Or are they more concerned about inheritance rights and security for their family? Or do they not see marriage as a necessary signifier of commitment and loyalty? Leon highly values marriage. The idea of becoming physically and spiritually bonded with Diane is something that holds him together as an adult. He would do mostly all he does now even if they weren't married, but then being married gives him an excuse. (I.e. "She's my wife, I have to.")
OC Questions on the Seven Forms of Love.
A little list of OC questions based on the seven types of love identified in Ancient Greek thought. Obviously this is a highly simplified presentation of some quite complex philosophical concepts from Classical History, intended more for the purposes of entertainment than education. I also left out Mania, which is arguably an eighth type of love (Obsessive), because I'm keeping it mostly positive in these tricky times!
Eros – Romantic, Passionate Love.
Is your OC romantic in the traditional sense? Do they enjoy giving or receiving gifts of flowers or confectionary? Or are there other courtship traditions from their culture of origin that are important to them?
How important is sex to them in a relationship? Do they see it as something essential to their happiness? Would they be able to remain in a monogamous relationship with someone they loved without sex?
How do they feel about public displays of romantic affection? Does it make them uncomfortable? How do they feel if a romantic partner kisses them in public?

Is your OC able to love without necessarily needing or expecting reciprocation or reward? Or are all their relationships to some extent transactional? Have they ever loved another person unconditionally, whether a child or another adult?
Agape – Selfless, Universal Love.
Does your OC wish to make the world a better place? How far do they see that as being their responsibility? What lengths would they go to in order to help achieve this?
Does your OC feel a spiritual connection to the world around them? Do they have a particular love for nature or living things?
To what extent does your OC believe in the value (or even existence) of true altruism? Do they see an unselfish concern for the welfare of others as being naïve or foolish? Or as a moral quality to which people should aspire?
Does your OC have a religious faith which emphasises the importance of a love for all people? If so then do they try to follow these teachings authentically? Or do they just pay lip-service to them? If not then do they follow a more martial or mercantile faith? Or none at all?
Does your OC find it easy to empathise with their enemies? Or do they see it as important to dehumanise them in order to combat them with sufficient determination?
Ludus – Playful, Flirtatious Love.
Does your OC have any particular favourite chat up lines? If not for themselves then perhaps ones they have suggested to a friend? How effective do these tend to be?
Is your OC particularly skilled at flirting? Have they had to practice this or does it just happen naturally?
How does your OC feel about one night stands? Have they ever enjoyed a night of passionate romance with a stranger? Is this something they are quite keen on recreationally? Or only something they might engage in under specific circumstances (such as the eve of a battle or after a difficult breakup)?
Who was your OC's first crush? How do they feel about it now?
What seduction techniques are most likely to be effective when it comes to your OC? Are there some things guaranteed to get them going? Or are they immune to such things?
Pragma – Committed, Long-Lasting Love.
Is your OC in a committed long-term relationship (or relationships)? If so then what has contributed to this relationship lasting so well? If they are not in such a relationship, then is this something that saddens them or which they regret?
What is the biggest challenge that your OC has had to overcome in a long-term relationship or friendship? What helped them get through this?
Are your OC's parents still together? To what degree do they look to their own parents as a model for their own ideal relationship?
After the initial fires of passion cool to some degree, what would keep your OC engaged in a relationship? Shared goals? Similar values? Or contented companionship?
What importance or value does your OC attach to marriage? Do they believe that it is important to make a public statement of commitment to another person (or persons)? Or are they more concerned about inheritance rights and security for their family? Or do they not see marriage as a necessary signifier of commitment and loyalty?
Philautia – Self Love.
Does your OC have a healthy sense of their own worth and value? Or do they see themselves as failing to live up to their original potential? Perhaps they are convinced of their own sinful or inadequate nature?
Does your OC believe that it is important to love themselves in the first instance? Perhaps in order to be able to give and receive love authentically? Or because they believe first and foremost in "looking after number one"?
Does your OC judge themselves by the same standards as they apply to others? Or are they sometimes hypocritical in condemning others for faults they also possess? Or perhaps they find it easier to forgive others for things that they cannot abide in themselves?
Which of your OC's qualities makes them the most proud? Do they think more people should be like them in this regard? Or do they quite like being rare in possessing it?
Has your OC always had the same opinion of themselves or has this changed over time? Have they learned to love themselves - perhaps with the help of others - as their journey progressed? Or have the consequences of their actions only served to erode their sense of self-worth?

Okay why are Jikookers literally elder people? 30 is not old at all, but I've seen children and teens in other shipper fandoms, not this one ...what brings y'all together like this 😂
But happy birthday love 😘 may you grow to see your generations 😊
Ahhh thank you so much for the birthday wishes anon 💜
What you're saying makes me wonder.
I have a jikooker friend who is 70+ 😂
But I believe some jikookers with greater levels of maturity can truly understand jikook's bond on a deep level, having been themselves in serious relationships and having more experience with relationships in general. So that's probably why.
It is true that tkkers are usually way younger and more immature 🧐 you're raising an interesting point!
People with some years behind them can understand better the human behaviour. Usually when you are in your teen years it is very common to experience toxic behaviours because young people don't know how to put up personal boundaries yet and if they weren't raised with a lot of love, well they lack self-love as well.
So in fact they have no idea what a healthy relationship looks like, that's why we see so many toxic narratives about the members and their relationships.
Of course I'm talking generalities I am well aware some older fans are also involved with other ships and fuel those narratives. But it's usually fans who even in their adult lives continue to have distorted perceptions of what is good and healthy.
My view on this might be quite radical but nobody in their right mind could be a serious taekooker. Nobody.
Their ship is based entirely on falshood and toxicity. When you are not distorted in your views it is impossible to get behind a ship such as this. (Except if its for just fun I guess)
I think for a balanced adult the only relationship that makes the most sense is jikook. Because they are themselves balanced and healthy and there is absolutely nothing toxic about them.
But not everyone grows in the same way and not everyone can have a balanced point of view and have enough experience to understand the subtleties of human exchange.
That's why there are so many disparities. And that's why I think a lot of jikooker are mostly older.
Jikookers do not have the shiny object syndrom. We do not think jikook are in a relationship because "it's hot" or "it would be cool".
We simply observe them and drew conclusions from our own personal experiences that made us go "Ok I see what this is" and that's it, literally.
That's why I think sometimes we should not take what tkkers do so seriously because some of them are really young and yes sometimes children. They don't even understand what they are doing and what they are believing in.
But it's true jikook draw people with certain levels of maturity, and I think it's quite indispensable to truly understand the depth of their relationship. Nothing beats personal experiences to compare lol
(Again it is all general statements and I know there are exceptions)
I answered quickly but I hope you see now why some jikookers might be older.
Thanks again and take care 💜

Hello!! I really like your blog ^^ Do you have any headcanons about Tobias Snape and his relationship with Severus?
Yes, I have quite a few headcanons, both about him and about their relationship. Here are some:
Severus was born in 1960, so Tobias must have experienced WWII in one way or another. I imagine him coming from a working-class family that suffered the consequences of the war when his father had to go to the front. Tobias was probably still a teenager, and if they were already poor, the absence of the family’s breadwinner made them even poorer, and he would have started working at a very young age, almost as a child.
The trauma of war and having to take charge of his family so young likely shaped his personality. From an early age, he acted like an adult and accumulated a lot of anger that he didn’t know how to process because 1) men in that era were ticking time bombs, as they weren’t allowed to show their emotions, and 2) if you weren’t violent, you didn’t survive. Period.
He worked in a factory and was quite frustrated with how little he earned and the fact that he was never promoted beyond being a laborer. He started frequenting pubs after work at a young age and began drinking very early as well.
He let out his anger by getting into drunken fights.
He met Eileen Prince when he was about 35, and she was 10 or 12 years younger. She looked like a well-to-do young lady, and he was quite smooth-talking, so it wasn’t hard for him to win her over.
Eileen seemed like one of those women who appeared fragile, and Tobias liked that. It reinforced the image of the macho breadwinner and family man typical of the time, which he liked to embody. It gave him confidence because, as a nobody, it was the only thing his ego could cling to.
He didn’t care that her family wanted nothing to do with their marriage; he saw it as a kind of triumph. He had won the girl, "conquered" her, and those posh idiots who seemed to be her parents could go to hell.
All of this changed when Severus was born and Eileen told him she was actually a witch. That was the beginning of his descent into hell because his fragile masculinity, rooted in patriarchal ideals of manhood, couldn’t handle the fact that his wife was more powerful than he was. That she had powers, that she could do anything with a wave of her wand. It stripped him of the head-of-household role he had built for himself. If his wife could do anything with just a whisper, and he couldn’t get beyond being a factory laborer, then what was left of him?
He began showing hostility every time Eileen displayed any kind of magic. Over time, she repressed herself more and more until she finally stopped using it altogether. Tobias became increasingly intimidating whenever she mentioned her powers, to the point of verbally abusing her when he came home drunk. Eventually, when Severus started showing signs of being a wizard, Tobias felt so alienated from his own family that this was when the physical violence began.
Eileen didn’t dare use magic because her family had rejected her, and Tobias was all she had left. She clung to her marriage and obeyed him in everything he said. But his frustration, lack of self-esteem, and constant personal failures only worsened his temper, and he always took it out on her. He would accuse her of thinking she was better than him because she was a witch, of mocking him behind his back with Severus, and he constantly reminded her that she would have nothing without him (classic abusive behavior, nothing new under the sun).
He was always deeply frustrated with Severus because, from a young age, Severus showed a strong interest in intellectual rather than physical pursuits: books, stories. It wasn’t just because he was interested in magic and Tobias felt intimidated by something he couldn’t access. It was also because Tobias had built his self-image as a strong man through his physicality—someone who had survived a war, endured a brutal post-war period, and worked with his hands from a young age. His son lacked all those traditionally masculine qualities. Instead, he was drawn to interests Tobias didn’t even understand because he had barely finished primary school. This frustrated him immensely, so he tried to force Severus to be a "real man" from the start. But when he got nowhere, he eventually took it out on the boy. He beat him with a belt whenever he saw Severus doing "sissy" things, showing interest in the magical world, or simply failing to embody the epitome of masculinity Tobias wanted in a worthy son.
As a child, Severus was deeply afraid of his father. This fear partly fueled his interest in the Dark Arts. He fantasized about using a curse on Tobias one day to make him suffer and pay for everything he had done. It’s no coincidence that Severus was ahead of his peers; it was a form of self-defense. He would secretly read old books from his mother or ask her questions when Tobias wasn’t home. But as Severus grew older, Eileen became more emotionally distant, eventually becoming almost a ghost in the house.
As a teenager, Severus felt nothing but disgust for his father. He despised being related to someone so pathetic and simple. He threw himself into his studies because, on some unconscious level, he believed that the more he learned, the more knowledge he acquired, the farther he would be from someone as illiterate and brutish as his father, who seemed almost animalistic to him. Ending up in a house full of upper-class people was a way for him to dissociate from his own origins, adopting mannerisms and striving to set himself apart.
This infuriated Tobias even more. To him, his son not only thought he was better because he was a wizard, but now he was also attending that boarding school full of "posh prissy idiots" and coming home as an effeminate weakling, trying to sound like some upper-crust Londoner. Tobias would grab him by the neck and slam him against the wall, yelling furiously, asking if a scrawny, weak runt like him seriously thought he was better than his own father. Deep down, Severus liked provoking this reaction because he knew he had hurt Tobias's ego.
Through his Slytherin peers, Severus came to understand that Muggles were like that—violent, unpleasant, always seeking to harm wizards. And in a way, Severus believed it, because his father was like that. His father was violent, uncivilized, while the pureblood wizards he met during those years were intellectual, highly knowledgeable, elegant, and well-mannered. They were eloquent, interesting people, full of curiosity and ambition. What Severus knew of Muggles was nothing but filth, violence, resentment, and hatred. It was his father shouting, the smell of alcohol from the pubs he always went to, the factory friends who staggered home with him late at night, always filthy and barely literate. Magic was extraordinary; Muggles were dusty streets, old, soot-covered houses that looked ready to collapse, beggars in the alleys, and families who couldn’t even afford proper clothes. What his housemates said about Muggles made sense because he had lived it.
By the time Severus was 16, he almost cursed his father during one summer holiday. Tobias had gone into a rage and assaulted Eileen and then him. But Severus held back; he didn’t want to risk expulsion or losing his wand. However, he was intimidating enough to make Tobias almost wet himself in fear. After that, Tobias restrained himself; he was no longer physically violent, only verbally abusive. They barely spoke when Severus came home for the holidays. Tobias barely spoke to Eileen either.
I don’t have a clear headcanon about how Tobias died. Many people speculate that Severus killed him. I don’t think so. I don’t believe he killed his father or had him killed. I think it’s more likely that Eileen died first, shortly before or after Severus finished school. She probably died because she had neglected herself so much that her health deteriorated beyond repair. I imagine Severus stopped going to Spinner's End, and Tobias, now completely alone, spiraled out of control. Maybe he stopped going to work and was fired, and he drank himself into oblivion. Perhaps he got into a fight and took a fatal blow, or he crashed a car while drunk. I don’t know. What I imagine is that he died after Eileen and under very sordid circumstances.
Severus didn’t even bother to collect his body from the morgue.

Japanese QL Corner
Counting my blessings this week as these current shows continue to absolutely kill it. These are all streaming on Gaga or provided via fansub (feel free to ask if you don’t know where to find them).
Our Youth
This week we were treated to a series of relationship negotiation conversations, several scenes so charged with tension and meaning that I am still not done processing, and a metaphor that just about knocked me out. Hirukawa can see through Minase's weak protests and just keeps putting himself near him, and now with Minase's parents likely divorcing and his impending departure abroad, he feels like he has nothing to lose, so he may as well give in to his desires. I am attuned to the pacing so I assume within the next two eps we will be wrapping up this high school backstory (brace yourselves for the horrors) and then going back to the present to see how they come back together as adults. I can't wait; this show is just killing it.
Love is Like a Poison
We begin this week's ep with the sweet smell of vindication, because as I thought, Haruto did not leave Shiba. He simply put his ring safely away and went out on a mission. Our Battle Couple continues to thrive! After another terrible encounter with his father (another strong contender for worst dad in BL), Haruto comes home and finally comes clean about the last of his secrets with encouragement from Shiba. His backstory is just as sad and horrifying as expected, and all the details of how he approached Shiba come together seamlessly now that we know he's been seeking help to avenge his mom this whole time. As a cherry on top, Shiba's bestie backs him up with the boss, and now the whole squad is geared up to take that man down.
Love in the Air Koi
CW: abuse, intimate partner violence, sexual assault
This week we transitioned from Arashi and Rei's happy coupledom to the beginning of Kai and Fuma's love story, with the flashback to their first encounter and an efficient presentation of Kai's harrowing backstory. I appreciate that this show did not flinch away from the ugliness of Kai's history, but also didn't dwell unnecessarily in the trauma. I am also noting the absence of the first kidnapping plot from the original drama--I assume this version will be combining Rei and Kai's abductions into one event toward the end of the show, which for me is an extremely welcome change. Nagatsuma Reo is really solid in portraying Kai's trauma and the intentional distance he keeps in his relationships and the fear and tension warring with his interest in Fuma was well done. Looking forward to their story.
The Fragrance You Inherit
In this episode Sakura and Mone got the chance to reconnect and Sakura finally told her story. It's sad as hell that her devastation over Mone led her to a dubious encounter with a man she doesn't know or like, but at the same time it gave her Toki, who is clearly her great joy in life. I'm happy that she got to raise him with the support of a good friend in Ryosuke, if not a partner. Speaking of Toki, it's now clear that he knows about his mom's feeling for Mone, and he is feeling her out to see what she might be willing to tell him. I'm sure he's having a lot of complex feelings, but I didn't get the sense that he's angry with his mother or concerned about his own relationship as much as he is sad that Sakura has kept this huge part of who she is a secret from him. Sakura wants to shield him from things he already understands, and she's too caught up in her own past trauma to recognize that the very fact of queer people existing will not come as a shock to her son. I love that the show seems poised to tackle that generational culture aspect of this conflict alongside the interpersonal dynamics. You can find the show here, with big thanks as always to @isaksbestpillow for providing English subs.

I know some people didn't like this post, I can kinda get it, but the point isn't that "oh so Laura can only be conventionally attractive?" Etc it's more that she looks like her abusive mother that she has very conflicting thoughts about. I did use the word pretty yeah, but really just because I can't help myself with the purple prose. It's really nothing more than that.
I do think it's vastly more interesting for Laura - somebody who never tries very hard to come to terms with her feelings and introspections, or moreso, doesnt really understand them - to have to deal with all the various ways people project Logan onto her in abstract ways, only to turn around and discover that she does resemble one parent in a very concrete way that she can never run from.
I think Logan and Laura DO have similar personalities and similar ways of coping and reacting to the same situations, but the way that manifests on the outside is VERY different. Laura as a young teen used to see Logan as a goal or a blueprint of how to live, or how she should live, but grew out of that quickly and instead began to see him as more of a broken pedestal, and as an older teen/young adult, a decent amount of her significant choices have been based on "What WOULDN'T Logan do".
I personally think it's incredibly reductive to this character to distil her down to grrr snikt snikt she-Logan when she's so much more than that. As someone pointed out, a lot of Laura's visual tics are things she learnt from Logan! This is something integral to her because Laura doesnt speak all that much to other characters, and she was often shown in the background of panels copying actions and phrases she just saw. She does resemble Logan on a much deeper level that I think she tries to run from, and I think that's a cool parallel as to how she CAN'T run from the way she resembles Sarah.
Logan also picks up on this and unfairly projects himself onto Laura. It's why their relationship is so damn shit, because he sees her, and sees himself, and he HATES himself. There is so much to unpack there and I think not enough people are interested in something that's such an interesting concept!
While I'm here talking about Laura, it's a real pet peeve of mine when writers (comics, fics or otherwise) try to draw physical parallels between Logan and Laura, when there's plenty more interesting ways to do it.
Laura looks like her mother! Her mother that she loved but was horifically abusive to her but still loved her and read Pinocchio to her but still made her kill and then was ultimately killed by Laura. I don't even think it's something anyone can get away with handwaving bc pretty much every single artist draws Laura just like Sarah Kinney, except shorter obvs.
And that's something Laura just has to live with, especially as she grows older and maybe her hair is halfway up and she half-glances past a mirror and does a double-take because - that's her mother looking back at her.
#laura kinney#logan howlett#She would NEVER call herself Laura Howlett#Very concerned at MCU stans who tag her as such#The day Marvel comics decide she will be called Laura Howlett is the day I disavow them completely#Anyway feel free to pick my brain more over this bc I'm struggling to categorise my thoughts

Elizabeth and Merlin headcanons cause WE WHERE ROBBED OF THEIR RELATIONSHIP (´-ω-`)
When Merlin was a kid, she was adorable. And guess who was weak in the knees for that? ELIZABETH she could not say no to this small girl that committed genocide. "Oh you want chocolate? Absolutely, sweet baby honey munchkin🥰"
And guess who absolutely took advantage of that, Merlin, this little devil. She batted her eyelashes like "But Sissy I want to build a nuclear rocket, pweaseee🥺" and guess who got to build a nuclear rocket? Merlin. Guess who had to stop it from blowing up? Meliodas.
Also when Elizabeth and Meliodas first adopted Merlin (cause they did you can fight me on this) Elizabeth and Merlin were practically conjoined. Where Ellie was Merlin was too. Meliodas was like babe? You haven't slept in our bed for 3 months. Where are you? Elizabeth reading Merlin a bed time story and falling asleep there.
I feel like Elizabeth was a bit like omg my baby is all grown up when she first saw Merlin after she got her memories back and didn't really know how to treat her. But I feel like she starts falling into the habit of doting big sister again. Like she'd call her sweetie or baby. And the others are side eyeing her like 👀, what did she just say to Merlin?
Merlin on the other hand is absolutely EMBARRASSED that Elizabeth is falling into this old habit again. She becomes very flustered and I bet Ban teased her to hell about this and she absolutely teleported him away to god knows where and let him stay there until he learned his lesson. (He never did it again)
I had this random idea that Merlin (adult) on Christmas didn't know what to get Elizabeth and crafted something for her. Like a necklace, it was very pretty and looked professionally made. But I feel like Merlin would be super embarrassed to actually give it to her, and be all fidgety and nervous. And Elizabeth would ofc absolutely love it and go hug her. Merlin would be all like "oh um no problem," when Ellie says thank you for the present.
#this is literally one of my favorite relationships in the whole series#it couldve been gold#WHYYY#I still love them though#I NEED MORE#nanatsu no taizai#seven deadly sins#nnt#sds#merlin nnt#elizabeth nnt

Hm. New Idea. I'm putting this one out there because the Discord buddies said it was good.
Gravity Falls and TMA crossover, but Jon and Martin arrive at different times.
Martin arrives a few years before Jon. He meets Ford, becoming buddies with him. He distrusts Bill a lot, being sometimes reminded of Jonah before he revealed what he was. But Ford is a grown ass adult, and Bill doesn't try to bother him much, so he lets him be.
Jon arrives the day Ford fell into the portal. He tumbles from that exact same portal right before shit hits the fans, and both Martin and Ford end up lost.
He has almost no Eye powers, no knowledge of this strange new place he ended up into, and has to work with Stan to repair the portal and get both Ford and Martin back.
Talk about a Situation to end into.
(I need Martin to become a ruthless killer with Ford and Jon to have to make scams with Stan even though he hates it)
The timeline stays about the same. It takes thirty years for Jon and Stan's combined efforts to bring the other two back. In the meantime, neither Jon nor Martin are ageing due to the Entities still being present.
Just imagine.
The anxiety of Stan seeing himself age during those thirty, long years, unsure if he will manage to bring his brother back or not. Making Jon promise to do it for him if he couldn't go on because, despite himself, he'd learned to appreciate and trust this odd, prickly British guy.
Jon never certain if, when Martin will come back, he will be the same, or if he would have aged like every other person around him, being robbed of this opportunity to grow old together. Martin had never been an Avatar, right ? Jon didn't grow old because he was already dead, in a sense, but what about Martin ?
(Crossing between dimensions was a good metaphor for death and an excuse for Martin's Becoming, but Jon doesn't know that :3)
When twins arrive in Gravity Falls, Jon works at the shop (Stan used his "weird British narrator voice" to make him a tourist guide. For some reason, tourists like his voice).
Also this AU works well with my general idea of Jmart, both of them clinging to that ideal of the other and of what their relationship would be in a non apocalyptic context, making them confront the reality of things when they are reunited again.
Had it truly been their love for each other that had pushed them to work towards being reunited, or had it been the idea that once it would be over, being together would automatically mean they would be guaranteed happiness ?
Also, maybe give them each a period of time during which they were really happy and almost forgot their guilt for the other, and maybe give them some rough time when they're back together. Then, they look back at that and rethink their relationship and their quest, wondering if it really was worth it.
Happy ending for both is expected, of course, just lots of talking things through before. Making them healthy.
And as a bonus, I'm giving them a "Tim" and "Sasha". Not in the sense that they are actual alternate version of Tim or Sasha, in the sense that they are different characters who behave very similarly to Tim and Sasha. Sometimes, they mix up their names, and their face have the biggest grief for some reason.
Bonus point if "Tim" dies in an explosion caused by Martin and Ford and if "Sasha" dies to a shapeshifter. And after that, Jon just guiltily thinks, "At least it didn't take her face this time".
#been a while since i posted an au idea here but look#tell me what you think#max talks#max writes tma#tma#the magnus archives#gravity falls#jon sims#jonathan sims#martin blackwood#grunkle stan#stanley pines#stanford pines#dipper pines#mabel pines#au idea#fic idea#adding that to my endless list of wips

do you think you would ever eventually draw a grown up version of jinx, lux and isha? seeing all the headcanons about them made me start thinking about how lightcannon would handle isha through her teenage/young adult years,,,,, like half of it comes from my desire of wanting to see lightcannon's dynamic as they become a bit more mature and their trauma/hurt is less raw? (if that makes sense? like being able to see them as adults who have grown to be a bit more grounded and secure 🥹) and also wanting to see what isha would look/act like as she grows up bc ... she was robbed of that in canon 🥲🥲🥲
btw i don't mean this as a request or me pressuring u to draw them !! i just wanted to yap about them bc im in my lightcannon + isha sappy feels 🫠
(sidenote: do we have a name for the lightcannon + isha found family relationship?? they literally mean everything to me ☹️💕)
Aw, no problem, I've been wanting to get around to this anyway. I went back and did a rough character study and tried to keep as much of the same features in. However, I tried not to worry too much since this is essentially a transformation from child to semi-adult.
The inspo mostly came from my own hairstyle, I've got curls similar to Isha's at the top, but it strengthens at the ends and back. So with enough length, I sometimes put tiny braids in, so that's where this particular design comes from, of course, with some help of reference from chosen Pinterest images, too. I also wanted to leave Isha's imitation, I think she'd still want to copy Jinx's hairstyles once in a while and implement the same cuts on a smaller scale.
As far as maturity goes, I think they'd communicate pretty efficiently, but of course, to a degree for some needed independence once in a while and all that jazz. However, I imagine they'd also be a tightly knit together family, close enough that they'd want to always carry something around that reminds them of the other. I think for Isha, that's in the form of images and colors, so hair dye and accessories.
I see Jinx growing out her hair eventually, like a wolf cut style, because even I miss my long ass hair from way back when, but Iove the tapers, so a shaved side of the head would follow along. Lux would probably get the cut just shy of the chin and finally use hair dye for the first time. But I can't decide if she'd go as far as to get an undercut as well. I think Jinx would want some kind of trinket for them, so she'd probably go onto wearing piercings, and they'd follow the idea. So, yeah, just little things that represent one another.
These are just a very few rough drafts, I really wanted to draw them, so I'm glad you've shared your thoughts with me, it helped me push through to get something up and running.
(I don't know any new names
for the lightcannon+Isha 😔)

I have some thoughts about Iroh bonding with Azula and Ozai, after reading your post about it. I find it very interesting to think that Iroh probably is reminded a lot about his relationship, or a lack of it sort of, with Ozai whenever he sees Zuko and Azula interact with each other. I think there are very interesting parallels between both sibling pairs. I also find it very strange that people think that Iroh didn't do enough to help Azula, because I don't think that's completely true. After the scene in Book 2 when Azula almost kills Iroh after shooting a lightning bolt at him, Zuko's response to him asking what they are going to do about Azula is "I know, she's my sister and I should get along with her." This pretty strongly implies that Iroh (and Ursa also most likely) did try to encourage Azula and Zuko to actually try to get along at some point, most probably because he didn't want them to have a strained, basically nonexistent relationship with each other like he does with Ozai. There's also the fact that Zuko would have still wanted to have some type of relationship with any of his family members, and Iroh absolutely would have supported this. I think this is very interesting to think about, because while Iroh and Ozai both grew up believing very strongly in Fire Nation propaganda and ideals, by the time Iroh realizes the truth about the Fire Nation, he's lost his son and his family is shattered in other ways too. Iroh sees how ruthless and cold Ozai becomes and he would never want that to happen to either Zuko or Azula. But he sees that Azula is becoming like that due to Ozai's influence, and I really think that he wanted Zuko and Azula to keep trying to get along as a way of circumventing Ozai's influence on both of them. Whether or not that was enough is debatable I suppose, but I think what changes Iroh's mind on this completely is when Zuko's face gets scarred. I think that's when Iroh would have realized that there's no real way to get through to Azula or Ozai, because they are both violent and manipulative. I don't think any of this can or should be reduced down to Iroh not having done enough to help Azula. While I also do think Azula was failed by the adults around her due to not having anybody around her who could have helped curb some of Ozai's influence, she absolutely should be held accountable for the things she did (and the actual situation surrounding why no one would go against Ozai at that time is quite complicated). This was basically my long-winded way of saying Iroh-Ozai and Zuko-Azula are very interesting to think about as narrative parrallels. What are your thoughts on this?
Yeah, I mean, the fact that Zuko thinks Iroh is going to say that he should learn to get along with his sister is evidence that Iroh isn't pushing some anti azula agenda. But Iroh is also very much reacting to the things Azula has done so far, not just the agni kai and the fact that she was sitting right there smiling at Zuko being burned, which I do agree was an eye opening moment for him.
Iroh's regrets are often about feeling like he didn't do enough, and I think he did try to shield Zuko in a lot of ways from how bad his family was, thinking that that would make things better. Even in "The Avatar State," Iroh is rightfully suspicious of Zuko but goes along with things not just because Zuko won't listen, but because it's hard to tell someone that their loved one is abusive. It was probably hard for Iroh to realize that. I don't know how much of that conversation he ever had with Zuko before, but the impression I get is not a lot.
There's this moment that I think is under-discussed before Azula meets Zuko and Iroh for the first time, where she is practicing lightning, and the scene cuts to Iroh noticing the lightning on the horizon with a wary look. This is supposed to tell us that Iroh knows either Azula or Ozai is after them, but I don't know that he ever said anything to Zuko. I think for a long time he hoped he wouldn't have to have that conversation at all. But he also had to know that he couldn't keep Zuko safe forever, that whatever freedom Zuko's banishment offered would never last.
So when Zuko modifies his need to protect himself from Azula with "I know I should be trying to get along with her," I don't think this is Iroh saying this out of lack of trying to bring the family together. It might even be Iroh feeling guilty for having said something similar in the past, or felt something similar, since we know from Legacy of the Fire Nation that he did once have those thoughts about Ozai, and since we know he got Azula a doll. Like, maybe he was thinking about all those warning signs he ignored or tried to downplay, because no one wants to think a father would hurt their son or a sister would want to hurt their brother. Maybe he was thinking about his own guilt about not trying harder to "get along," and it was important for him to not let Zuko suffer the same feelings, to let Zuko know that he didn't have to stand by the way Iroh himself did for so long, for his own protection and for other people's protection.
Can you imagine Iroh having a similar thought process, right before the agni kai, about how surely Ozai would not really hurt his own son?
Or maybe Iroh was thinking about how Zuko thought he couldn't defend himself from his own father for the sake of family. "She's my sister," sounds a lot like "I'm your loyal son," doesn't it?
I mean, if I had to guess what Iroh was thinking after Zuko got scarred, it might be similar.
He was my brother. It was his son. I didn't know.
I have no time for people who think Iroh is acting out of some weird prejudice and isn't intimately familiar with what it feels like to love a sibling who isn't capable of loving you back.

You know, as a trans woman who read the books as a child, I've always seen that scene in entirely the opposite way. I've always read Tip as more allegorical for trans femmes, which makes that scene a moment of incredible joy and empowerment.
I've reread it as an adult a few times just because that scene was so formative to me, but it's been a little while so I decided to go back and read through it on Project Gutenburg. It's getting a little long, so I'm putting it under a read more.
“I!” cried Tip, in amazement. “Why, I’m no Princess Ozma—I’m not a girl!” Glinda smiled, and going to Tip she took his small brown hand within her dainty white one. “You are not a girl just now” said she, gently, “because Mombi transformed you into a boy. But you were born a girl, and also a Princess; so you must resume your proper form, that you may become Queen of the Emerald City.”
Okay, not the best start. It does sort of feel like Glinda is championing gender essentialism here. The book was written a hundred and twenty years ago, though, and not steeped in modern arguments about the nature of identity. I think it's really more about her being a monarchist than anything, which is...better? In the context of a fantasy novel, sure.
(Also it's a pretty solid first argument if you're a trans femme inclined to read this as more like wish-fulfillment. Why, you have to be forcefemmed for the good of your country!)
“Oh, let Jinjur be the Queen!” exclaimed Tip, ready to cry. “I want to stay a boy, and travel with the Scarecrow and the Tin Woodman, and the Woggle-Bug, and Jack—yes! and my friend the Saw-Horse—and the Gump! I don’t want to be a girl!” “Never mind, old chap,” said the Tin Woodman, soothingly; “it don’t hurt to be a girl, I’m told; and we will all remain your faithful friends just the same. And, to be honest with you, I’ve always considered girls nicer than boys.” “They’re just as nice, anyway,” added the Scarecrow, patting Tip affectionately upon the head. “And they are equally good students,” proclaimed the Woggle-Bug. “I should like to become your tutor, when you are transformed into a girl again.” “But—see here!” said Jack Pumpkinhead, with a gasp: “if you become a girl, you can’t be my dear father any more!” “No,” answered Tip, laughing in spite of his anxiety. “and I shall not be sorry to escape the relationship.”
It's definitely not great that all his traveling companions are piling onto him with reasons why he should go ahead with undoing the transformation. Honestly, though, I think this reads more as a continuation of (or a foil to) the General Jinjur plotline, which is a lot funnier if you read the book knowing that Frank L. Baum's mother-in-law was one of the foremost suffragists on the east coast at the time, who was also his editor. And he lived with her. Also note that Tip's words at the end are because he's spent the book a little uncomfortable that Jack Pumpkinhead follows him around calling him 'Father.' Another potential point on the scale for egg Tip, if that's something you're inclined to be looking for.
Then he added, hesitatingly, as he turned to Glinda: “I might try it for awhile,-just to see how it seems, you know. But if I don’t like being a girl you must promise to change me into a boy again.” “Really,” said the Sorceress, “that is beyond my magic. I never deal in transformations, for they are not honest, and no respectable sorceress likes to make things appear to be what they are not. Only unscrupulous witches use the art, and therefore I must ask Mombi to effect your release from her charm, and restore you to your proper form. It will be the last opportunity she will have to practice magic.” Now that the truth about Princes Ozma had been discovered, Mombi did not care what became of Tip; but she feared Glinda’s anger, and the boy generously promised to provide for Mombi in her old age if he became the ruler of the Emerald City. So the Witch consented to effect the transformation, and preparations for the event were at once made.
I feel like this may be the key moment to determine if you read Tip as being forced into this against his will vs. given a good reason to allow it and having his fears put at ease. As a kid, I obviously read Tip's line here as not a grudging admission at all, more as an effort not to seem too eager, but that's definitely affected by how I would have responded to being in this situation.
Unfortunately, I don't think the text supports that as well as I would like it to? Taken at face value, it seems more like he's legitimately uncertain but is willing to give it a try.
Glinda's response, however, is probably the most objectionable point here. I think I've always unconsciously softened it a bit when I read it. In all fairness, Tip doesn't object further to this despite saying that his previous agreement was conditional, but then again how much can we really expect an eight year old to go against the word of the most powerful sorceress in Oz, who is also the commander of the only functional military in the setting as well? Glinda's wording isn't completely airtight, but it does seem like she's giving an ultimatum here; Mombi will make the antidote, Tip will take it, and Mombi will be relieved of her magic. There won't be an opportunity for Tip to ask for the transformation to be reapplied if he doesn't like it.
Glinda ordered her own royal couch to be placed in the center of the tent. It was piled high with cushions covered with rose-colored silk, and from a golden railing above hung many folds of pink gossamer, completely concealing the interior of the couch. The first act of the Witch was to make the boy drink a potion which quickly sent him into a deep and dreamless sleep. Then the Tin Woodman and the Woggle-Bug bore him gently to the couch, placed him upon the soft cushions, and drew the gossamer hangings to shut him from all earthly view.
None of this is particularly relevant, but god, the pink and gold bed with the canopy of pink gossamer is just laser targeted at little eight or nine -year old baby egg me secretly wanting to be a princess.
The Witch squatted upon the ground and kindled a tiny fire of dried herbs, which she drew from her bosom. When the blaze shot up and burned clearly old Mombi scattered a handful of magical powder over the fire, which straightway gave off a rich violet vapor, filling all the tent with its fragrance and forcing the Saw-Horse to sneeze—although he had been warned to keep quiet. Then, while the others watched her curiously, the hag chanted a rhythmical verse in words which no one understood, and bent her lean body seven times back and forth over the fire. And now the incantation seemed complete, for the Witch stood upright and cried the one word “Yeowa!” in a loud voice. The vapor floated away; the atmosphere became, clear again; a whiff of fresh air filled the tent, and the pink curtains of the couch trembled slightly, as if stirred from within. Glinda walked to the canopy and parted the silken hangings. Then she bent over the cushions, reached out her hand, and from the couch arose the form of a young girl, fresh and beautiful as a May morning. Her eyes sparkled as two diamonds, and her lips were tinted like a tourmaline. All adown her back floated tresses of ruddy gold, with a slender jeweled circlet confining them at the brow. Her robes of silken gauze floated around her like a cloud, and dainty satin slippers shod her feet.
Once again, I cannot overstate how formative this scene was to me as a little eight-ish -year-old child. It's basically a classic 'girl just like you discovers she's actually a princess' fairy tail tailored directly to trans femmes.
Also, interestingly, despite Glinda's words previously, she doesn't seem to immediately be concerned with removing Mombi's magic, which I think is part of why I have always been able to read the scene as her following Tip's request to go back if they decided they wanted it. Maybe that wouldn't have proven true and Glinda wouldn't have allowed Mombi to redo the transformation if Ozma actually came out of the bed complaining, but since that didn't happen, we can pretend whichever way we like.
At this exquisite vision Tip’s old comrades stared in wonder for the space of a full minute, and then every head bent low in honest admiration of the lovely Princess Ozma. The girl herself cast one look into Glinda’s bright face, which glowed with pleasure and satisfaction, and then turned upon the others. Speaking the words with sweet diffidence, she said: “I hope none of you will care less for me than you did before. I’m just the same Tip, you know; only—only—” “Only you’re different!” said the Pumpkinhead; and everyone thought it was the wisest speech he had ever made.
I mean come on. How can anyone possibly read this in the modern day and not take it as an allegory for a transition? Obviously, Frank L. Baum was absolutely not trying to write a trans fairy tale here. I think he was more trying to write about how it didn't matter if you were a little boy or a little girl, that everyone was the same deep down and all that. He just really didn't know how to write little girls. Hence him also accidentally writing Dorothy and Ozma as girlfriends later on down the line.
In conclusion: yes, looking at the evidence, I think Ozma was kind of forcefemmed, but at the same time I don't think there's much evidence that they were upset about it after the fact. Additionally, I am far more interested in seeing a retelling of the Oz stories that focus around Dorothy's magical trans lesbian girlfriend, because I don't think I've ever actually seen that interpretation of the character in retellings. Interestingly, I think the angst over the whole forcefemming thing does come up in the second or third Wicked novel. I haven't read it, though.
Enough about Wicked. When is someone going to write an Oz spinoff exploring Tip/Ozma's feelings about getting forcefemmed.
#I spent way too much time on this#like I said#Ozma was extremely formative to me as a child#I am perpetually upset that she isn't a more well known character#even within trans spaces

Do you ever thing about the comparing of scars scene in Agatha All Along?
How, in all Agathas 300+ years of existing, it is probably the first time she has just chilled out with her peers?
All other times, except maybe with her first coven, when engaging with witches, it's with the sole purpose of manipulating them into stealing their power.
Yet here this sad sack of a witch is, snort laughing with her ex as she shows how she got stabbed with a knitting needle.
It's such a tiny moment, yet it is also probably the first time she has felt any kind of kinship with someone outside of Rio or Nicky.
Do you think about her uncertainty as the other witches laugh at her story? How she is waiting for the other shoe to drop?
Did she have this bond with some of the Witches in her first coven before her mother would come in and stomp all over it?
An instinctual moment where she waits for Evanora to come in and punish her for being so frivolous, being so damned.
This was probably the first time she experienced community without punishment.
There was probably the tiniest spark of hope that maybe she could finally belong.
Then hours later, in swoops her mother and takes it all away from her again.
Because I do. I think about it a lot, and it breaks my heart.
#tw abuse#agatha all along#agatha all along spoilers#agatha harkness#rio vidal#i think this is what makes it so fucked up#the way agatha punishes rio for nicky#and in doing so hurts not only rio but herself in the process#because they gravitate towards each other no matter where they are#yet the trauma she experienced as a child stains her relationships as an adult#she does to rio what her mother does to her#hurts her over and over#she cant forgive her#she doesnt even really understand what forgivness would look like#then in her final confrontation with rio she takes the first steps#that kiss was absolution for both of them in a fucked up twisted way#at least for the hurt they caused each other#it was also her first step on tje road of forgiving herself for nicky#her first step towards personal growth in a very long time
