Hello gamers its me, mod R. Now that it's like 2am and it looks like propaganda has slowed down, allow me to take this time to introduce you to a Just Some Guy of mine that couldn't make it into the tourney!

What is there to say about him. Not much. He's a college student. He's a ghost investigator. He's got a shitty girlfriend. He is every ghosts FAVORITE investigator because they will make spooky demon noises and he'll go "woah how'd you do that that sounded sick that's so cool" and then they go 🥺

He is simply Very Kind, Very Chill, A Little Stupid, what more could you want in a man. The only big thing he has going on is the aforementioned shitty girlfriend and that's more about her than him. He's just chilling. She doesn't take the hint and he goes "okay" and then just hopes she loses interest (she doesn't she doesn't she doesn't (this isn't about her))

He's better friends with the ghosts than anyone in his classes. Sometimes he thinks he'd be happier as a ghost living with the people that are actually his friends (and maybe he's right) but they need him to be alive so he can get them cookies and stuff so he just 👍 chills. He's chilling. He fully plans to haunt the neighborhood when he dies because that's where his friends are!!! He wants to be able to actually see them so bad!!! But first he's gotta graduate

And the only reason he isn't in the tourney is because mx narrative said no :( -R

ok but actually it’s fascinating to me how many people’s first experience of aou is that they’re disappointed by it. because when i watched it for the first time i had such a weird kind of uncomfortable feeling the whole time and thought ‘hm. interesting ideas but i don’t think i care for it’. but now it’s like one of my favourite movies ever. and i know a lot of other people have revised their opinions on the movie when they have a better idea of what to expect from it. like i was under the impression it was a continuation of the show, but it’s not really, it’s like an even more abstracted character study of anthy and utena in the in-between of being trapped in their coffins and escaping ohtori. and i personally really enjoy that and i think it adds a lot to the show, especially if you’re feeling harrowed by utena’s ending (though i will say an integral aspect of rgu’s ending is hoping that utena is out there and believing that genuinely; wait for me and all that). and i just really love the use of symbolism in the movie and like. the levels of surrealism it reaches. it’s so different to rgu but similar enough that it can really rub you the wrong way if you’re not open to a reimagining of certain things. idk! i have a lot of thoughts about the value of other utena works generally but the movie is my second favourite after the show tbh

interested to hear your perspective on this. what do YOU think makes a fic become popular in the r/s fandom. because there are many many fics and most of them go unnoticed. what do you think makes for a popular fic in general & in the r/s fandom in particular?

hi hello this got a bit long so all under the cut xxx

i’ve been thinking on this question a bit and i feel like this is kind of a tricky question to ask because it IS mainly down to chance !! but i want to make a distinction between viral fics and just generally popular ones because the first is very much down to random chance and a few other factors — these fics tend to be plot heavy + long + high drama and angst. they read more like novels i think? but most fanfiction isn’t like that (i mean i don’t personally write anything like that!!). for me meaningful engagement with my fic didn’t necessarily mean i had accrued heaps of hits but occurred rather when i had a tumblr where i was making friends + posting about my fic and posting snippets etc. and interacting with people in the comments of my fic and on tumblr. i’ve pretty slowly just gained a reader base from that and over time the fics have been read and ppl come back to read my other ones ?? i guess!!

i think it also helps to have someone read over your work just to check for grammar and spelling + plot holes etc. because those things can have people clicking off a fic for sure. also tagging thoroughly and accurately on ao3 is really helpful so people can actually find your fic. in my experience the best thing you can do is write a story you really love + enjoy writing and have fun with because that’s when you write your best and people will see that in the story and writing…. and there’s like hundreds of very similar fics (i’m thinking lie low at lupin’s etc etc) so just… write whatever don’t worry about being original or whatever.

idk i’m curious what other people have to say about this because there’s a trend that i haven’t seen as much in other fandoms for fics to become ‘viral’ through twitter and tik tok (i mean atyd is like the most read fic on ao3 right?? or one of them??) and i think it’s really skewed people’s perception of what is typical engagement with fic (which tends to be small and perhaps builds over time) and what the purpose of posting is all about. writing should be about your own enjoyment and hopefully people get some out of it too. obviously it’s hard Not to want people to read and like and comment on your work but posting with that as the main hope in mind is just gonna be pretty miserable i think!!!!
