ok but actually it’s fascinating to me how many people’s first experience of aou is that they’re disappointed by it. because when i watched it for the first time i had such a weird kind of uncomfortable feeling the whole time and thought ‘hm. interesting ideas but i don’t think i care for it’. but now it’s like one of my favourite movies ever. and i know a lot of other people have revised their opinions on the movie when they have a better idea of what to expect from it. like i was under the impression it was a continuation of the show, but it’s not really, it’s like an even more abstracted character study of anthy and utena in the in-between of being trapped in their coffins and escaping ohtori. and i personally really enjoy that and i think it adds a lot to the show, especially if you’re feeling harrowed by utena’s ending (though i will say an integral aspect of rgu’s ending is hoping that utena is out there and believing that genuinely; wait for me and all that). and i just really love the use of symbolism in the movie and like. the levels of surrealism it reaches. it’s so different to rgu but similar enough that it can really rub you the wrong way if you’re not open to a reimagining of certain things. idk! i have a lot of thoughts about the value of other utena works generally but the movie is my second favourite after the show tbh

I haven't been this pressed about a fictional character (antagonist???? she is one to me now!!) in a hot minute. Before I get into her in this ep, I wanna preface by saying that I do have the actual manga, but I wanted to finish watching the show before I went and read the manga for comparison, so that i'm going into this with basically an open mind. So I have no idea how this compares to the manga version of her.

Also if it wasn't clear, Spoilers for I Hear The Sunspot ep 7. Okay.

So it's the start of a new academic year, and we're introduced to freshman Maya, who is a Science major, is also Deaf/Hard of Hearing, and is Kohei's new tutee in the university as a result of having a mutual friend. That is the extent of what we know about her. Other than Kohei being her tutor and maybe a pseudo mentor/companion who can understand and appreciate her disability, they have absolutely no connection. They are not childhood friends or family.

Which begs the question, why on gods green earth is she so invested in what Kohei does or doesn't do, and who he is or isn't with???

Lady, he doesn't know you. He doesn't owe you anything, because you objectively mean nothing to him. So you've grown up with a really severe and isolating disability, I get it. But that's not a good enough reason to become so bitter that you decide to become judge jury executioner on every (visibly) abled person's morals. (Which is so incredibly telling, judging people on how visibly disabled they look or act, when you have a disability that is fairly invisible, unless you can see hearing aids or a cochlear implant or something like that. Interesting how that works, huh.) (Having a disability doesn't give you a free pass to be an asshole.)

Maybe, just maybe, you're allowed to act like that based on how people act towards you. But what gives you the right to walk up to the friend of a friend (??) that you absolutely know nothing about, and mete out judgement? To decide how that person is allowed to interact with someone else, a someone else that you have no claim or authority over?

Oh, but god forbid that Kohei have a friend who doesn't treat him like a social leper, who doesn't have every interaction of theirs revolve around Kohei's deafness, who for once makes him feel included and normal.

Kohei is a grown ass man, who can make his own decisions, including his own mistakes. Who are you to suddenly come into his life and make decisions for him without his involvement, consent, or approval? And who says that any person who is friends with someone with a disability has to be physically and morally perfect?

How dare you?

If I were to sum up my biggest issues with Maya, it is in the way she talks. It's entirely indicative and reflective of how she views and interacts with society. One of the first things that Kohei tells Taichi is that he is able to understand what someone else is saying if they speak slowly, partially by listening and partially by lip reading. it's a small accommodation that we even see Taichi's friends making for Kohei. That means that when anyone talks they should talk clearly, and slowly, and try to enunciate their words properly. If we look at the way Maya talks, she barely opens her mouth at all. If I didn't know any better i'd have thought it was ADR. Given she is someone who has lived with the same sort of disability that Kohei has, she would require similar accessibility needs. And yet, while she expects the world around her to accommodate her needs, she doesn't accommodate for the world. She expects people to speak in a way that she can understand, but she won't do the same.

I'm assuming that the narrative point of Maya criticising Taichi right now is so that we get to see him go on a growth journey, where he'll become more passionate and dedicated about learning note-taking and even maybe signing (and advocating for the deaf community as an ally), and not just be a passive friend who seemingly 'takes advantage' of Kohei, and in the process become the person that Kohei truly needs, and not the person Taichi thinks is good enough.

But here's the thing. I don't care if Taichi has any growth or not. I don't care if he changes or doesn't change to maintain his friendship and relationship with Kohei. I don't care if he tries to become someone that Maya (and Kohei) can approve of.

Because Kohei already likes him the way he is.

And it's none of Maya's goddamn business. Get bent

Ok so

it’s established that kghn put each other on such a pedestal no one even come close. while others are easily infatuated with shoyo and are more or less devoted to him, I tend to not see as much reciprocation on hinata’s end.

yes shoyo has so many rivals and people who wants to play with him and he has fun playing with them too, I’m sure he appreciates atsumu as a setter, not denying all of that but,

With kghn it’s always “we’re in this as one. we’re gonna win, you and me… and the team” this togetherness that kghn seem to embody in their relationship, making plans for the future /together/ ats hn doesn’t really seem to share ?? maybe bc we only seen them for one match but I just can’t seem to quite place shoyo’s feelings towards Atsumu at all.

also maybe it’s bc I’m just so kghn pilled that’s why I need to hear someone else thoughts

the only character I can see shoyo being mutually devoted to is mayyyybe kenma. Even then I just can’t picture him placing anyone above kgym, in the sense of a friendship, partnership or a rivalry. They’re the greatests after all.

Atsm and hnt being together always seems more of a coincidence or plot driven than shoyo actively choosing to be his teammate unlike with Tobio where he genuinely wants to be WITH HIM, stand by his side. Even with the ‘one day I’ll set to you’ it always feel more of an atsumu wish rather something atshn desires together.

though I don’t see it in a romantic way at all you can’t deny that Atsumu is interested in shoyo and wants to be part of his life on the court but when I try to picture hnt reciprocating, it’s like most of the feelings are being /forced/ onto him. Or it just feels like how he should be feeling towards Tobio if any of that make sense…

I'm glad you asked because I love talking about hq. Yes I like atshn, and obviously you know i'm obsessed with kghn. Dw i'm definitely not taking any of this as slander and I love criticizing/analyzing ships anyway, it's kind of my whole thing.

So, hinata's thoughts on atsumu hmm well i'm with you that we don't actually get much of hinata's internal thoughts about him. Like if you read the manga, like obviously you can surmise that he thinks atsumu is talented and and excellent setter and an excellent opponent on court and he also likes atsumu as just a person, especially because atsumu's hunger for volleyball is so similar to hinata's own. But the rest, honestly we don't know.

It's important to remember that we don't actually get a lot of Hinata's thoughts on people that aren't plot-relevant or volleyball-relevant. We don't see much of anything about his relationships to people in his classes, his thoughts on Koji and Izumi, his dynamics with most of Karasuno's bench players, etc. It's partially because he's a volleyball centric nutcase but also we're only told the most volleyball-ish parts of his thoughts and even then, like kageyama for example is pretty much synonymous with volleyball and we don't see much of hinata's thoughts on kageyama outside of volleyball either (I mean, we get a lot more of hinata's thoughts on kageyama than we do anyone else but like we don't get everything - his thoughts on the Rio thing for example, we can guess at but we don't quite know)

And as much as Hinata would like volleyball to be the end all be all of life and as much as for him, it almost really is, it's still not completely and Hinata could very much have more interest in Atsumu in non-volleyball related thoughts like for say, romantically then he does in a volleyball way. I'll agree that on court, Atsumu seems to be more taken with Hinata and Hinata's not obsessed the same way. But that doesn't need to translate to non-volleyball bits of their lives. Like there's space enough in the narrative to color him as someone who romantically likes Atsumu and still holds Kageyama as the most important setter or even most important person in his life. It goes back to why kghn is a brotp tag for me, because their relationship is something that spans beyond just romantic, they are and still would be insanely important to each other divorced from any romantic contexts or connotations. It can co-exist- and very easily so- alongside either of them being romantically interested in other people.

The last aspect I want to mention is that ships really don't have to have much to do with a character's canon feelings. Sometimes, yes, it's about who a character canonly has feelings for but It can be about a thousand other things. Even in kghn's case, we're stretching hinata's regard and intense focus on kageyama into a romantic light. And outside of that, ships are just dynamics that you find compelling or think are theoretically compelling or just funny etc. They don't even have to be based in anything.

For me with atshn, I like atsumu's flavor of devotion, the way he's so overt about it. I like how mean he is, I like the way his personality can and does contrast with hinata's, I like the potentials of their dynamic. I like the way Atsumu speaks their partnership into existence - it's soooo similar to Hinata the way Hinata stubbornly wills his own future to his desires too- about beating Ushijima, about beating Kageyama and standing on the same level as him, about reaching the heights of volleyball.

I'm not as obsessed with them as kghn because like you said, kghn's is more of a mutual obsession that we play out in canon and thus they take up much more of my headspace but I do like it!

ik I already said i'm done but like actual one last thing- I think this is inspired by the atshn vs kghn ship war that I see little fragments of floating around here and honestly, my opinion on that is that it's a false equivalence. There's no use in arguing about which one's better because they're based off different grounds altogether so in trying to compare them, you're inevitably talking past each other. And it's ok to have different opinions, it's ok to not like the same ship someone else does, it's really not a competition. I also think that people trying to explain why they prefer a certain ship over another end up either purposefully or unintentionally stepping on the toes of fans who do like their ship and don't want to see people argue against it. (i'm not innocent of this- mischaracterizing kageyama for the sake of a ship drives me INSANE and even though I know I shouldn't engage I do anyway) Some people also just seem to think that they need to be validated/justified on their ship opinions, like they need to be in the right which really doesn't need to be a thing, you can just like a ship, man.

Anways, that's every angle that I can think of about this topic, I think I answered all of your points? Ofc, feel free to shoot up another ask if I didn't or if you just want to respond or to voice your own opinions etc. It's a fun discussion to have especially because i've been seeing bits of this float around (not for the first time and probably not for the last) and thus, I have so many thoughts about it in my head, most of which I haven't had a chance to voice yet lmao.

I feel like Dabi would be the type of dude who would bully you incessantly at the LOV and for the life of you you can’t figure out why. He’s always around you and making snarky comments or pulling your hair, trying to catch you messing up on missions. You’re sure he hates you, and you do well to stay out of his way, or sometimes when you feel bold you’ll offer a quip of your own. The bullying increases whenever you talk to other guys at the bar, especially when you make Tomura crack a smile, Dabi’s breathing down your neck the second your leader leaves, calling you terrible names and pushing past your boundaries.

In a perfect world, Touya would not have been abandoned and rejected by his family. In a perfect world, Dabi would not exist, and Touya would be eating dinner with his family right now as he shows his little brother how to properly wield fire to its fullest extent.

But there was no such thing as a perfect world, and therefore Dabi did exist. And Dabi doesn’t care for anyone, or anything.

Or so he tells himself.

It’s nothing you haven’t heard before, but it doesn’t make it any easier to ignore him

“What was that all about, huh? The fuck are you and crusty snickering about?”

Fed up with his continuous antics, you decide to mouth off a little too.

“Oh nothing, just talking about how adorable you and Hawks would make as a couple. And wipe that sneer off your face, it looks like some of your staples fell out of your mouth.”

It’s nothing too snarky, but in a second he’s shoving you in some dark room, forearm pinned against your throat as his hand is lit up with blue flames merely inches away from you, snarling in your face.

“You wanna be funny, bitch? I got jokes of my own too, why dont I show you what happens to dumb little girls who don’t know their fucking place? I think that would be real funny.”

But his hand is stopped from drawing near your wide eyes when you both hear Twice and Toga calling everyone for their next meeting.

He pushes you away from him, giving you a murderous look over his shoulder as he leaves the room, not paying mind to the way you slide down the wall in the dark.

You take extra precaution to try avoiding him for the next few days, not even making eye contact with him when you two get teamed up for tasks. He never mentions the room incident, if anything he acts as if it never happens. It’s like whiplash for you, he tries to weirdly talk to you more but all you offer him is mumbles and hums of agreement.

The conversation is never long, but it starts to be less talk of degrading you and more of begrudging questioning of what you’ve been up to. You never engage, opting to pretend like you never heard him, and strangely enough he leaves it be.

You give him a side eye one day as he joins you at the bar (much to your discontent), downing your glass just to fill another.

He says nothing as he slides into the stool right next to you, and pours a glass of whiskey for himself as well.

It’s awkwardly silent, you’re not sure if you should leave or not, but you’d be damned if you try to initiate small talk with this psycho.

But then, he speaks.

“Is Shigaraki sending you on the mission to get that UA kid?”

His gravely voice rumbles and cracks from his usual lack of use, and he clears his throat after he talks.

“No.”

“Oh.”

This is excruciating, you think to yourself as he mulls over the drink in his hand for a silent minute or two.

Toga calls you over thankfully at the exact same moment, and you breathe out an inaudible sigh of relief as you slip off the stool to join her.

“Wait-“ Dabi grabs your arm and you flinch out of instinct, expecting a slap or a burn to come from him.

He sees your reaction and shakes his head dismissively, letting you go and muttering a “Nevermind”. You don’t ponder over it as you trip over your own feet to join the eccentric blond.

A week passes, and then two. With each day you maneuver your way around him, request to be partnered up with different people in private, and busy yourself in random tasks. Every time you pass him by the bar he lifts his head from whatever he’s doing and tries to maintain eye contact with you, even going so far as to open his mouth to say or ask god-knows-what.

You try to ignore the foreign hopeful glint in his glacial eyes as you walk right past him, ducking your head as you do so.

It drives Dabi crazy.

He can’t handle any more rejection, he thought his family would be the last straw for him to ever want recognition or love validation from again. He wants to talk to you, to hear your voice as it snaps back with witty comebacks of your own that he secretly enjoys so much, even if it means he has to force it out of you with hateful words. He wants to feel your hair underneath his scarred hands, even if he has to mask the soft wanting of you in forms of yanking the strands. He wants nothing more than to see your eyes fill up with no other sight than him and think only of him, even if it means he has to corner you and scare you into submission.

But your silence is something he’s not used to.

Well, to be fair, you weren’t silent completely, but the only sentences he was hearing from you nowadays was when you were speaking to Shigaraki or the other League members.

You were the only idiot who didn’t notice the smoke curling from his nostrils and ears comically when he’d finally see you stop your stoic act just to open up to other men apart from him. Spinner, Twice, and Compress backed off almost immediately from talking to you for too long when they’d see the look on his face as he watched you surrounded by them, but Tomura would merely smirk from behind your shoulders and keep a level gaze with his subordinate, knowing fully well why he was so pissed off.

You began to notice the weird energy at the base soon after the rest of the men would keep curt conversations with you in comparison to your long talks about video games, sex, and life after you would all win the war.

So you thought it would be best to ask the most semi-normal person there that wasn’t fueled with testosterone and aggression.

“I just don’t get it, why are they all being weird? I mean, we all used to talk so much and now they just...try avoiding me. Except for Tomura of course, he’s still normal I guess. But he always has this smirk on his face when I’m with him and I can’t figure out why.”

Toga stops cleaning her blood-laced needle to give you a sly look, all fangs and glinting white.

“And Dabi?”

“What about him?”

She sits back on her haunches and cocks her head at you. “You really don’t know what’s happening here, do ya?”

“No,” you roll your eyes in exasperation. “But I’ll gladly take any theories here, since apparently I’m the only one who doesn’t get it.”

“He likes you.”

You gape at her for a moment and then burst out laughing.

“What? That’s crazy, he doesn’t like me, he hates me!” He can barely stand being in a room with me, all he does is talk shit and harass me.”

The blond curiously licks at a bead of red from the top of the weapon and you cringe when her own tongue rips from the sharp point.

“You say he can’t stand being in a room with you, so then why is it that he’s always there? He might talk shit, but he talks to you out of everyone else right? Regardless of if it’s something mean.”

You’re thoroughly flabbergasted. She had a point, but it was too much to wrap your head around. She cheerfully hums and gets up to flounce around the room, cleaning her already-tidy room up to a T.

“And that little silent treatment act you’re giving him isn’t helping either. I swear, Jin told me Dabi almost burned his mouth off that one day you, him and Spinner were talking about GTA. He totally cornered the poor guy and threatened his life if he didn’t stop talking to you.”

“You’re joking.”

“Am not. He wanted to do the same to Tomura but I figure he wants to keep his job, so he won’t. Doesnt make it any better for him when you’re all chummy with the one person Dabi can’t stand the most, though.”

No wonder your leader was so smug whenever you two were in the same room, your attention solely focused on him.

You run your hands down your face, moaning about the whole situation being fucked. It’s just your luck that you couldn’t take a clue, but to be fair, how could you? Being called worthless and a waste of space wasn’t exactly what you had in mind for flirty banter.

“Soooo what’re you gonna do now? I heard he’s gonna try talking to you for realsies like, tomorrow or something.”

“Tomorrow?” You yelp, jumping up to your feet. “Why didn’t you tell me sooner? I can’t face him!”

“Oops,” she giggles, twirling with outstretched arms around her room and falling down onto her bed.

“Oh god, I can’t do this. I don’t even know if I like him! He’s such an ass, and even when he tries to come off as normal he’s just so..unsettling. I don’t think I’ve ever had a good conversation with him.”

Toga props her elbow up to rest her chin on her hand, frowning in thought.

“Why not just tell him how you feel?”

You snort and fold your arms. “Yeah, because the psycho arsonist is really gonna take the word no well.”

“Hmm.. I see what you mean. Oh well, whatever you choose, I’ll support you!”

And with that she skips out of the room sing songing for Twice to make a clone for her.

You were fucked.

And sure enough, the next day he approaches you, hands stuffed in his pockets and an almost bored look on his face.

“Yo newbie, I gotta talk to you for a second. Come with me”.

You look blearily up at him through eye bags and mussed hair, a direct telling of your sleepless night. Your stomach drops when you hear his words, but you nod your head and take a deep breath, mentally preparing yourself of the speech you practiced till the sun rose.

No one else is bothering you both today, Shigaraki having gone to visit All For One and the rest of the League left to their own devices. It was something you weren’t so comfortable with, but you doubted a hero would come to save you.

He leads you through the short winding hallways, each step of his growing louder and heavier as the space started growing smaller. Finally, he reaches a dimly lit room and stops outside the door, gesturing for you to go in with a casual wave of his patched wrist.

“After you.”

You raise an unsure eyebrow at his uncharacteristic show of consideration, and do as he says. You’re sweating bullets, fists balled so that your nails are digging into your palms, and vision going in and out of focus as your eyes begin to adjust to your surroundings.

A loud bang pulls you out of your stupor, and you whip around at the sound.

Dabi is already staring back at you with lidded eyes, leaning his weight against the door, his arms crossing over each other.

You shift on both feet, picking at your nails nervously.

“So, what did you wanna talk about?”

He says nothing, but just observes you, his head slightly tilted as if you were some abstract art piece.

“Dabi.”

“You got a lot of nerve, y’know that?”

He pushes himself off the wall and advances slowly towards you, hands stuffed in his trench coat pockets.

You immediately back up with raised palms, sputtering indignantly at his offensive movements coming closer and closer. However you thought his ‘confession’ would go, this was most definitely not starting out like how you planned

“Excuse me? What’re you talking about-“

“I know what you’re doing. You think whoring yourself out to ol’ crusty and the rest of the guys here is gonna make everyone forget just how useless you actually are. What the fuck do you even do here? You fuck up half the missions which I have to come bail your ass out of, you constantly put us in jeopardy by being all friendly with everyone, and you can’t even keep your mouth shut when I need to let off a little steam, as I rightfully should.”

In a perfect world, Dabi would be the light of your eyes, the hero of your world. In a perfect world, Dabi would be able to hold your hand in his smooth one and tell you that he wants you so much that it impairs his rational judgement and makes him say things he doesn’t mean. He’d tell you that your presence is like a weight lifted off his chest, your presence means he doesn’t have to think or worry about the outside world, he just wants you all to himself without anyone interfering.

But this is not a perfect world, and Dabi is not a hero, but rather one of the worst villains.

So he does exactly what one does as a villain.

Instead of a loving look that he knows he’s incapable of, Dabi looks down into your horrified gaze as he traps you against the wall between his scarred arms, spewing misplaced venom at you.

“I don’t know what your problem is, but you need to chill out. First you go ballistic on me ‘cause I talked to Tomura for no reason, then you act all weird and quiet as if you’re some decent person, and now you think you can just bring me in here and tell me how worthless I am? Go fuck yourself, seriously.”

You scoff and make your way to push him but stop when he does what he did a couple weeks ago. You hold bated breath as he casually brings an inflamed hand to scratch at his face as if he can’t feel the hellfire emitting from it, and let out a whine of distress as he lowers his head mere inches from yours, lips almost touching.

“Stop talking to the rest of the guys,” he breaths. “Stop smiling, laughing, or going near anyone who isn’t me.”

You wonder if he knows how insane he sounds. He does, but that’s nothing he doesn’t know already. If anything, it solidifies in his mind that if he is to be as bad as the world has made him out to be, then he is acting exactly fit for the role.

“Why?”

“I don’t need to give sluts like you a reason. It should come as easy, right? What’s putting out for one more person?”

Your eyes are brimming with tears now, your stoic facade showing cracks as you sniffle a little bit.

He eats it up and groans watching salty rivers cascade down your cheeks. Suddenly, he feels as though he can no longer hold back anymore, he feels as though if he thinks for one more second he’ll combust.

So, acting on instinct, he surges forward and presses his lips against yours, swallowing your cries of distress and holding your hands above your head in midst of them frantically beating on his chest.

Your lips are so, so soft compared to his and it’s making him sink deeper into this instinctual daze. He puffs against your writhing lips as he thrusts his hot tongue in your mouth.

You try to bite him but when his hands heat up against your skin you resign to your fate and wail, allowing him to pull his hips flush against yours and start humping your thighs.

He draws back and bites your lips, teeth clacking against yours as he does so. You open your terrified eyes and blanch when you see the look on his face.

Lust is clearly drawn everywhere, from his blown pupils to his heaving chest, all the way to his flushed face and wild eyes. He looks as though he’s about to eat you alive and it’s appropriate that you feel like a lamb about to be slaughtered.

“Dabi, wait, please stop-“

But he cuts your pants off again in favor of slamming his hips against yours again and grinding impossibly hard on your legs, the friction of his jeans catching on your clothed cunt and forcing a mewl out of you.

“I’m not gonna stop. I’ve had enough of you teasing. You’re mine now, and if it takes burning our dear leader alive and this whole place down for you to understand that then I’ll fucking do it.”

He thought that terrorizing you would ease the empty feeling in his heart, that continuously berating you would force him to see you as what he always said you were, just another empty headed cunt. He thought that distancing himself from you and focusing on other things would make him forget about the soft feelings he longed to share with you, feelings he thought perished in the fire he was in when he was a young boy .

Even now, there is an ache in his chest as he hears you beg for him to stop, to let you go, that you’re sorry for whatever you did.

But this is not a perfect world, and not everyone gets their way in life.

You should really learn that, because Dabi already has.

And so Dabi will act accordingly to what life has put out before him .

Also he can’t cook but he’s fully prepared to suffer hearing Sukuna and suffering through Yuuji’s antics if it means he can learn how to make your favorite food

He also will surprise you by making you a playlist of all the songs that you’ve had stuck in your head and sends it to you randomly out of the blue one day like ‘thought you might like this’

This mostly ties in with her kind of direct action way of thinking

She thinks she’s slick but you can always see her sneaking around to do small things like grabbing your laundry for you and folding it

Like she’ll take you to a frog pond you landed in during a fight once

If he doesn’t he’ll cry he’ll immediately call you back and is apologizing for missing your call

You assure him it’s no big deal but the man has his volume turned all the way up and changed your ringtone to one specific for you by the time you’ve even said hey

Whether that be an at home date where he tries and fails to surprise you with a home cooked meal

Or a date out at a restaurant or cafe (which you tend to visit after his home cooking efforts)

OR he’ll bring you various souvenirs from his missions

He loves to spoil you, and if he could he’d probably bring you back a whole store’s worth of stuff

But alas, airport security regulations

Anyways, he loves to spoil you especially if he can spoil you with sweets because it benefits him in two ways 

He treasures all the time you spend together, and he does try to overcompensate for his absence with gifts

Despite your assurances, it’s kind of a guilty pleasure at this point (just let him, trying to argue just goads him on further)

He also isn’t gonna just handle all your problems for you, he will push you to become stronger by training with you

Hello Yoko, I hope you're well! I really enjoy your blog and thoughts. I have a few questions if you wouldn't mind, one translation-related and two for analysis/hc stuff. First: re the Tenjiku folks, do they have different/specific speech patterns each or do they all more or less talk the same? Second: Mocchi was said to come from Kawasaki in 227, does that give us any clue about his socio-eco bg? Last: Kakucho said Mucho taught him "how to be a real man", what are your thoughts on that?

ANON Thank you for your lovely words! AND I DO NOT MIND AT ALL! In fact, I got really excited by your questions! I have a soft spot for Tenjiku/Bonten/Rokuhara members so they're always a topic of interest for me.

Disclaimer / Warning: You may have overestimated my understanding of the Japanese language and knowledge of Japan ahaha... I am still a learner, so please take my attempts at translations with a big fistful of salt! This is also an open invitation to anyone fluent in Japanese to jump in and correct me if I've gotten anything wrong.

Alright, here goes!

On: Tenjiku Speech Patterns / Mocchi & Kawasaki / Kakucho’s Relationship with Mucho

1. Speech Patterns of Tenjiku Members

This one’s hard for me to answer because I don’t have a native grasp of the language, so I’m very likely missing out on a lot of nuances / slang in their speech patterns. So far, to me, it doesn’t seem like there are any particular differences in the way all members speak. They’re all speaking roughly and impolitely, the way anime boys are typically portrayed to speak hahaha. And even though Tenjiku is from Yokohama, they don’t seem to speak in an exaggerated ‘Yokohama accent’ where ‘jan (じゃん) is often used as a sentence-final particle. I guess this is because most Tenjiku members are said/implied to be from Tokyo, except Mocchi. Even so, Mocchi and the other Tenjiku mooks do not seem to have any distinctive speech style or Yokohama accent. Then again, accents can also come from the intonation as well which we can’t hear from manga. Maybe any linguistic differences may be more apparent in the anime? (Anyway, I don’t think Yokohama accent is as huge of a thing as other accents like Osaka-ben. I believe people who live in Yokohama mostly speak just like Tokyoites.)

TLDR: Tenjiku members don’t seem to have any distinctive speech patterns between each other (or even in comparison with the general rest of the cast). Then again, I could be wrong about this.

2. Mocchi & Kawasaki

Hmm, I'm afraid to say that we simply do not have enough information about Mocchi to conclude his socio-economic status.

Firstly, Kawasaki is a city, not a district like Roppongi, so the scope is entirely different. Because it is a city, there are varying levels of wealth across all sorts of wards and areas in Kawasaki, whereas Roppongi is a particularly affluent area in a city. Therefore, it's hard to decide if someone's rich/poor just by knowing they're from Kawasaki, but if someone tells you they’re from Roppongi, you can kinda assume they're rich.

That said, Kawasaki is generally considered to be cheaper to live in than Tokyo, or even Yokohama. And because of its convenient location and close proximity to Tokyo, it's a good option for people who work in Tokyo but cannot afford to live there. Kawasaki, especially its southern area, is industrialized and home to many factories since the post-war period. In the past, the city had more factories and somewhat had a reputation of being an industrial / 'blue-collar' area, so people had the impression of it being a rough place (i.e. home to more ruffians, less safe, less clean). However, this has changed in recent times with de-industrialization. It still has many factories, but it's also become more residential (especially in the northern areas) and contemporary, with many tourist spots like museums, so I don't think people still think of it as a 'rough' place. I’m just sharing what Kawasaki’s like in case you wanna make any guesses about Mocchi based on it! (Fun fact: I've been to Kawasaki for a quick stop at their famous arcade (Anata no Warehouse), and found the immediate area around the main station to be really chill! It had a suburban feel to it.)

Back to Mocchi; perhaps if Wakui-sensei had told us where in Kawasaki he is from, we could have more of a clue. BUT! In the manga, Mocchi is simply said to be from Kawasaki, though it did not specify if it's Kawasaki the city, or Kawasaki the ward in Kawasaki City. I guess common sense tells us he meant Kawasaki City, but IF we ASSUME that Mocchi is from Kawasaki the ward too, we can perhaps squeeze something out about his background? Kawasaki Ward is home to one of the largest ethnic Korean populations in Japan, with its own Koreatown. Perhaps, PERHAPS Mochi might have Korean blood in him, from this fact? Many Zainichi Koreans (permanent residents/citizens of Japan who are ethnically Korean) adopt Japanese-style names, so it's not impossible that Mocchi has this heritage even though his name is Japanese. Zainichi Koreans were historically discriminated in Japan and could only mainly take on 'undesirable' jobs (like construction or gambling), so socio-economically they were not high up on the list. Some Zainichi Koreans also turn to crime and criminal organizations, which could perhaps provide some context to Mocchi being a delinquent? I feel like I’m reaching for straws here though. Please let me emphasize that Mocchi being Korean is not my conclusion or personal HC. I am only LIGHTLY TOYING with the very vague idea that he might be, haha. It's better if you just disregard this whole spiel, really!

TLDR: We simply do not have enough information about Mocchi to conclude anything about his socio-economic background, or even his background at all haha. I'm sorry to disappoint, anon!!

3. Kakucho and Mucho

Oh it certainly does seem that Kakucho’s relationship with Mucho is one of his more positive and healthier ones!! That scene where Kakucho stopped Mucho from stabbing Angry/Takemichi with a knife in Chapter 164? It’s brief but quite revealing about their relationship. I know you’re only asking about one particular line, but I think there’s more to be said about the whole scene so I hope you won’t mind me rambling about it too! Let’s break it down:

Firstly—“You taught me to be a man among men.”

In Japanese, Kakucho says: 「アンタから漢を教わった」 the meaning of which is what’s conveyed in the translation, so I don’t have much else to add.

In case you were wondering: the word for ‘man’ used here, 漢 (otoko), is slang for ‘manly man’, someone who is tough, strong (both in terms of personality and physical power), courageous and honourable. Basically, the traditional image of masculinity. Kakucho by nature is an honourable person, even as a kid he thought it was wrong to gang up on others (Chap 165). Therefore, I’m sure that in Tenjiku, he would’ve gotten along best with Mucho, who also holds strong moral values of honour and is portrayed as the ‘elder brother’ type. Mocchi also seems to value honour in fights, so he’s another person who could be on friendlier terms with Kakucho, but Mocchi is comparatively more chaotic and battle-thirsty than Mucho haha. I personally think Kakucho didn’t interact or hang out with the Haitani’s or Shion as much because they seem to be sneakier and generally not so respectful in disposition, so Kakucho probably disagreed with their views. Also, Tenjiku!Kakucho seems to have a particularly strong ‘tough guy’ vibe in his appearance and dressing, so he could also have been influenced by Mucho in this aspect.

Secondly—“I don’t want you to be ruined by Tenjiku.”

In Japanese, Kakucho says 「アンタまで天竺に染まるな」, which honestly is kinda hard (for me) to convey the nuance in an English sentence that is grammatically correct, haha. Instinctively and immediately, this sentence strikes me as “Don’t be tainted by Tenjiku. Not you too.” I’m not saying this is how I’ll translate it, but more like the impression I got from the line.

The fan-translation is more or less correct I suppose, though I feel that ‘tainted’ is closer to the original than ‘ruined’. It also doesn’t highlight that Kakucho is saying 「アンタまで」, which means “even you”. This implies that to Kakucho, Mucho is the pinnacle ‘good guy’, who the corrupting influence of Tenjiku should not reach. This further implies that Kakucho views Mucho differently from the other Tenjiku members, which provides more evidence that after Izana, Mucho was most special to Kakucho within Tenjiku. (Lmao sorry Ran!)

Thirdly—Kakucho’s pronoun for Mucho

In English, the pronoun ‘You’ just means ‘You’, but in Japanese, there are several ways of saying the pronoun ‘You’, and it can show what the speaker feels towards the person they’re addressing.

As of Chap 247, Kakucho generally uses Omae (お前／オマエ) and Temee (テメエ), depending on who he’s talking to and his mood at the moment. (This is the same for the rest of the TR boys (and Senju), and is typically the norm for most male characters in animanga.) However, it is only with Mucho that he uses Anta (アンタ). They’re all rude ways of saying ‘You’, but this is how they differ:

Omae (お前／オマエ) - This pronoun is generally considered to be very informal and rude, though it’s used by boys and men for people they know who won’t mind it, like close friends or spouses/partners. I’ve also heard it used by superiors to subordinates in workplaces. Kakucho uses this with Izana and Takemichi, or when he’s in a neutral / positive mood. 

Temee (テメエ) - This pronoun is considered to be derogatory and more vulgar than Omae, so please don’t use it with anyone you know haha. It feels like a word a guy will use on someone he wants to beat the crap out of. Kakucho uses this when he’s mad / hostile, such as with Takemichi (when he was being spiteful about Takemichi not understanding his bond with Izana), Takeomi and Mikey.

Anta (アンタ) - Out of the three, Anta is the least rude. Boys and men also use it with people they’re close with, and I feel that it’s more acceptable to use it with elders you’re close with (like parents) as opposed to Omae. Women sometimes use this too with their husbands, though it may come off as more admonishing. It’s generally still very informal though, and if you use it on a stranger you’ll sound like you’re picking a fight. Nonetheless, between the three, Anta is the most ‘respectful’. Kakucho has only used this for Mucho (not even Izana), so it further insinuates that Mochi had Kakucho’s respect. (Kakucho hasn’t been shown to use the ‘you’ pronoun on other Tenjiku members yet btw.)

You hear second-person pronouns in animanga like Omae / Kimi (君) a lot, but in real life, Japanese people tend to avoid using it and prefer to simply refer to the other party by name. Even the neutral / formal Anata (あなた / 貴方) should be used as little as possible when speaking to someone. This link here explains the differences in the ‘You’ pronouns used in animanga really well, if you want a deeper understanding!

Bonus: I noticed that Ran referred to Hakkai as Otaku (おたく) when they were starting their fight in Chap 156. Otaku (おたく/お宅) is an old, respectful way of saying ‘You’, but Ran used it playfully (Ran uses Omae for other people). And yes, Otaku also has the entirely different meaning of a person who has obsessive interests haha.

Lastly - Mucho’s Relationship with Kakucho

Again, the only interaction shown between them is when Kakucho stopped Mucho’s knife. In the fan-translation, Mucho says “Get out, you shit” but in Japanese, he says 「どけクソガキ」, which translates better to “Out of my way, damn brat”. To me, Mucho calling Kakucho a brat highlights the age difference between them. Knowing Mucho and his inclination to be the ‘big brother’ type, he probably saw Kakucho as another youngling he could take under his wing, or at least be a role model to, like Sanzu. 

We don’t know exactly when Kakucho was introduced to the S-62, but based on the S-62′s jail term and ages, I’d say that Kakucho met them when he was 13-14, and probably only had a year or two with them before the Kantou Incident. So it’s not like Mucho was there to guide Kakucho through his formative years like Izana, but I think because of how ‘manly’ and ‘big-brotherly’ Mucho was, and how Mucho at his core was a good guy, Kakucho looked up to him the most and was most definitely influenced by him in some way. 

In addition, Mucho was one of the most shocked people around when Kakucho stood up to Izana. Attention was specially given to his thoughts about it: 「誰より忠誠心の強い、あの鶴蝶?!」/ “The one whose loyalty is strongest [to Izana], that Kakucho?!” I’m sure it’s very clear to every Tenjiku member how loyal Kakucho is to Izana, but from how Mucho found it so incredulous, it kinda implies that Mucho knows Kakucho’s feelings on a deeper level than other Tenjiku members, perhaps? 

TLDR: After Izana, Mucho was closest to Kakucho in Tenjiku, and Kakucho looked up to Mucho a lot.

Now, I think I also owe you all some clarification since it’s been a while I’ve talked about these things.

I currently run two Discord servers:

I've set up the translations server this way to create a controlled streaming environment where I hopefully won't have to manage moderating too many people and can keep things low-key. Sanzu simply does not care enough to worry about minor inconveniences. If it doesn’t get in the way of him and/or those he is loyal to, he isn’t going to waste his time and energy on even thinking about it.

Other times, if he’s just having a bad day, he’ll maybe blow things out of proportion and take those minor inconveniences as a way to just blame his bad day on. If someone really wants to get on Sanzu’s bad side though, all they’d have to do is either mention his siblings that he loathes so much or talk badly about those who he is loyal to.

You will immediately know when he’s unhappy when Sanzu doesn’t talk. He’s already wasting his time and energy to even worry about what’s making him upset, so he’s not going to add more by talking. Unfortunately, this even goes for you. He’d enjoy it if you would give him his space, allowing him to just let time deal with his temper.

Though, Sanzu greatly appreciates how patient you are with him. Never did he ask for you to do these small things you do for him, in fact, he thought it should be the other way around where it would be him giving you everything.

When he’s unhappy and unwilling to speak, you still put so much effort. His favorite food is ready and waiting for him, his clothes are free of wrinkles, and life just seems so much easier for him to deal with.

Depending on how serious the issue was, it’ll either take a few hours or a few days for Sanzu to speak to anyone else again, but you will always be the first. He’ll walk up behind you, ignoring whatever you’re doing and inhale your scent that he missed so much.

It’s really better to just not ask about what happened unless he brings it up himself, but he likes it if you’d just talk about yourself.

“What are you doing, doll?” His words are a lot softer around you, a big contrast to the personality he puts out towards others.

And as you begin to talk, Sanzu can’t help but soften his expression, nodding at every sentence and giving you his attention. He knows that he isn’t the easiest to deal with and he knows that it was nothing you have to deal with - you could ignore it and he would be fine with it. But your efforts will never go unnoticed, and he will be sure to make it up to you to the best of his ability.

It doesn’t take too much to make Ran unhappy. He’s unbothered by a lot of things and it may just be an older brother instinct to just deal with things as they go. If it’s things involving his career as a dangerous man, then it’s a little different. Things are in the moment and he has to make sure that he isn’t caught with his guard down.

If someone is bothering you, Ran will deal with it on the spot. If Rindou got himself in trouble again, he’ll deal with that too on the spot. He just doesn’t wanna waste his time.

Like Sanzu, it had to just have been a bad day where things kept piling up on him and he just had enough. He’ll immediately go and find you, not wanting to really project his problems on you, but more as a way to distract himself.

You hear a familiar set of feet creep your direction, your name is dragged out as Ran calls for you, wondering where you are.

“There you are,” Ran’s face visibly beams as he finally sees you.

He immediately walks over to you, grabbing your attention and leaving you to toss out whatever you were doing prior. Ran’s a touchy person, but never really ‘clingy.’ You’ll know when something happened that irritated him when he clings onto you more.

“Did something happen?” You curiously ask, looking straight at him.

He shook his head, nearly forgetting the reason why he was upset in the first place, “Let’s go out tonight or something. Tell me what you wanna do, and we’ll do it.”

If Ran is unhappy, he really just doesn’t wanna bother with it especially if it isn’t something he can immediately deal with. The best thing you can do is just ask if he wants to talk about it. Usually he’ll brush over it, wanting to at least let you in on the details of his life, but that’s about it.

His thought process is really ‘why spend time worrying about those things when I can just be with my partner?’ He doesn’t want to think of you as a distraction, but no doubt does he see you as a mood booster. You always make his day.

Rindou gets irritated a lot. One thing he hates dealing with his people. He just hates dealing with how ‘indecisive and stupid some of them’ can be as he says. But with his title, he’s kind of forced to have to consistently be around others, usually those who aren’t looking to be his friend.

When Rindou’s unhappy, he’ll find everything else annoying. If it someone who cut in front of him in line, suddenly everyone to even looks in his direction will piss him off. He tries his best to not snap at you, it’s nothing he wants to bother with if he makes you unhappy too. But even after just a few minutes of asking to be alone, Rindou will usually go and find you and just ask to silently do something together. He just doesn’t wanna be left alone with his own thoughts; it might drive him more crazy.

Rindou will make it super evident when he’s upset (he’s stubborn), but when he is, it’s good to just be patient with him as he’ll most likely come back and drape his body over you, silently asking for attention.

Take off his glasses and kiss his eyelids, play with his hair and his fingers, tell him you love him and he’ll melt. His face is left with an expression he wouldn’t dare show anyone else, but nonetheless, he’s grateful to you and he immediately forgets what upset him in the first place.

✎ just wanna start this by saying this is sort of both an analysis but also my own personal portrayal on douma’s character based on what we see from canon, so it definitely has a lot of my own opinions on it. & and it also sort of shows how i plan to write him if/when i get requests for him. you don’t have to agree with any of my thoughts but ya know i wanted to share them since douma is my fave character!

✘ warnings before you read: cults, mental illnesses, mentions of death and trauma, especially childhood trauma (that partially stems from neglect) - also not so much a warning but this is very long and obviously contains manga spoilers.

⇢ let’s be completely honest here, douma is an extremely complex character. and while we know a lot about him, at the same time, it’s almost like we know barely anything. we don’t really know an extreme amount of what goes through his head, but it’s kind of just assumed he’s a completely emotionless character, usually stated to be a psychopath because of this.

⇢ i really, really urge anyone labeling a character with a mental illness to do research on it before even considering to use the term, i should mention. and it’s very important to mention mental illnesses are very different to how they effect each person. but from what i understand, both psychopaths and sociopaths (just in case that term gets thrown around too) feel emotions, just very differently to how someone not suffering from the mental illness does. now since i don’t have either illness i’m not gonna say douma is either one, as i personally don’t feel comfortable diagnosing characters with mental illnesses i don’t have or haven’t very clearly been stated they have in canon, but it’s very important to have a very clear understanding of those illnesses if you’re gonna say douma is one.

⇢ but regardless of how you see douma mental illness wise, i personally think he does have emotions, they’re just obviously not as clear as others due to his upbringing. and we do see he has emotions as a kid, shown very clearly by him crying due to everything these grown adults were piling on to him.

⇢ he’s very obviously upset. and why wouldn’t he be? to hear such things from adults day in and day out as a child, being expected to be the one to solve their problems? it’s stressful. it eventually leads up to what we see of his parents death. he’s not upset. he doesn’t really feel any sadness for the two. but that can be explained.

⇢ his parents never acted as parents to him. from the moment of his birth douma was just an object for them to create this cult. i don’t really know what they wanted from it: money? fame? who knows. but it doesn’t really matter. douma was just something for them to use in order to gain what they wanted. even if they did genuinely believe he was a special child, their actions sure didn’t show that. and while douma said that he felt sad they believed he was special, douma was a child. his parents had no reason to show their genuine intentions to him, so we’ll never really know what they thought. but as i said, they didn’t seem to care much how messed up he became as long their cult was in place. douma never had a chance to live a normal childhood, he was placed on a high pedestal from birth and never got to be child. never got to really understand things he should understand. he couldn’t understand actual genuine love from his parents or if he actually loved him. sure, he could feel things such as happiness and love and all of that, but if he did feel it, how could you ever expect him to know? he was in such a constant horrible state, how would he ever know how positive emotions even felt?

⇢ to go back to his parents deaths for a second, even if he didn’t feel anything, it didn’t mean it didn’t cause him any suffering. he was a child, that sort of thing you don’t come out from without trauma. especially since he saw it happened with own eyes. and that probably significantly worsened his already poor mental state. but that also means he was raised from that moment by the cult, and his chance of every coming out okay was straight up zero. let’s be real, the only reason douma has any sort of hold over the cult is because he is their object of worship. they didn’t treat him like a child or even a human being. he was nothing more than someone for them to worship and believe in that they would be blessed. of course, it’s a cult, so most of these people are victims much like douma himself, but the fact there had to be people at the top that were raising him and used him to accomplish their own goals. to use his influence as they saw fit.

⇢ and it was never ending cycle, he never got out of it. all he did was learn to keep the cycle going since he couldn’t simply just leave. and maybe there were moments where he thought himself to be happy due to having so many people worship him, but it wasn’t true happiness. 

⇢ maybe the first bit of happiness he got was from being a demon and getting to interact with other demons? unclear since it’s not like we really saw it. but it was different. it was a small crack in the cycle. but those demons all ended up hating him due to his attitude, that despite no one liking he still kept up. why? why didn’t he just act in a way to make others like him?

⇢ maybe it’s a reach, but to me personally, it’s a mixture of how he desired to be - carefree without any troubles - mixed with how he imagined a child to act. like i said, he had basically no childhood, and it’s not uncommon for those who never get to experience a proper childhood to act more childlike later on to my understanding. he even uses terms like “bully” to describe people much like a child would.

⇢ however, this brings me to what i truly believe was one of the few happy times in douma’s life: kotoha.

⇢ i don’t think he realized it himself, because why would he? but he cared for a lot more than one would believe capable for him. i’m not sure if i would call it romantic or purely platonic, but kotoha was genuinely important to him. i mean, what purpose would he ever have to say he didn’t plan to hurt her?  he wanted to keep that small bit of happiness in his life, maybe in somewhere deep in his heart he even believed they could be their own happy little family to break this never ending tragic cycle he went through.

⇢ but he lost that happiness. she grew scared of him and basically hated him in his eyes upon finding out the truth. and the cycle of tragedy continued once again.

⇢ and to really come to my last point: we’ve seen douma mad.

⇢ and i suppose some could write this scene off as him continuing to be emotionless, but it doesn’t explain the way it’s drawn. the shading on his face that is usually used to show anger. or why he would ever really care about what kanao said in the first place if it was actually true and it didn’t hurt him in some way. the reality is douma does many things that can’t be explained for someone who supposedly has no emotions. and a lot of these details about his character are more subtle, so maybe they mean nothing at all at the end of the day, but in my personal opinion this is how i interpret them.

✎  but that’s really how i see douma, another demon with an extremely tragic story, but one that doesn’t come to light just how tragic until you think more on it. and that is how i do plan to portray him when writing for him personally! maybe i’ll do this more for other characters at some point, but he was the one i wanted to talk about the most since i just have so many thoughts on douma.

Idk how really to start LOL and some of this it's possible I've said before

First and foremost, I think he's a super neat person. Aggressively neat... as he definitely rings as a character who's weird upbringing with his weird parents in a weird shack has made him super concerned with not living in squalor

He's not gonna be mean to people about messes, though. He understands why they occur and what they symbolize... he's just not gonna tolerate any kind of dirtiness in his own house

Similarly, he eats/enjoys food for some of the same reasons.

His parents weren't able to provide him with anything substantial + I doubt the commission really provided him with anything other than meal plans... so eating is an escape from that

He has a line that clues us into this too (and I can find it if anyone wants) but I'm forgetting it right now

I don't want to say it's binge related but it's definitely disordered eating of some sorts, where like... if you offer him food, no matter the time or place, he's eating

And though he's lean for work, he'd probably have more of a stocky build if you left him to his own devices (because he’s also somewhat. Short)

Also... Hawks IS a deeply kind + thoughtful person... but he's not kind because he's naturally kind, he's kind because he chooses to be kind

It's a specific thing, I think... where he makes choices that he doesn't really like for the sake of it being right / what he believes in

But just because he puts a happy face on it all or it seems like he likes you... doesn't mean that his internal feelings match

So he's a lot more mean when you get to know him... which is shocking because he never actually does anything mean. Just says mean shit and speaks his mind in private and it's all weirdly depressing

And all acts of frivolously are extremely calculated, too. Even if there is truth in his declaration of "I want to live in a world where Hero's have free time"

He does, just. Can't

Similarly, he's also like... lazy... in a way that makes him hard to interact with

Again, not mean exactly but you can almost never get favors out of him or rush him because he's just gonna do stuff his way whether you like it or not

(This is dumb, but for example, you ask him to start planning for your vacation and... No. He's gonna plan when he wants to plan.)

And he also never explains anything to you and deals with all his problems by himself, so... you just have to trust that things will work out with him

Doesn't matter if it's when he plans to do something or what he's struggling with... it's personal. You get left out of it

And not intentionally, either... he's just incapable of letting someone help carry his burdens. EVEN if/when he loves them

So, TL;DR: what I'd fight over is Hawks being seen as a superficial person who doesn't value the significance of kindness or privilege. I definitely think we never really get to talk about his internal dialogue or struggles which are SO painful given that he is literally willing to sacrifice and kill for the benefit of society despite it being wrong. Also, he's a dick.

Wanna bet that he’s going to shower them luxury for the evening? The Avatar of Pride doesn’t settle for anything less than utterly obliterating what his competition could offer.

Spending money like Mammon if he won the lottery. Usually he’d be less flippant about price tags, but he needs to seem like he’s on top of the world tonight. His ego’s on the line after all.

Not above asking the MC if there’s any place in the world, Devildom or human, they’d like to see and just taking them there. No objections accepted. You want go to Paris? Then we dine in Paris, get your coat.

Gifts. Gifts. Gifts gifts gifts. Nice ones. Very shiny. Big gifts make them feel special and remind them of him when they see/use them. Better get that subliminal messaging started ASAP. They are his.

Engaging dining conversation, but may bring up work/Diavolo/or the Devildom more often than not. Man just can’t stop thinking like he’s on the job sometimes...

All the brothers would kill to know what happened/what was said but he forbids them from saying anything about it. The night can stay just between them.

Mammon

It is going to go wrong. Somehow, in some way, it will blow up in his face spectacularly. But this is still Mammon we’re talking about so it’s probably going to be a fun ride regardless.

Go to the casino, lose everything, and run like hell from angry employees after causing a scene? That’s on the table. Trying to have a romantic night, getting crashed by some XYZ person who he owes money to, then going through shenanigans to try and avoid them? Equally likely. Things just not working properly to catastrophic levels? Like it’s etched into fate itself. 

No matter what trouble follows this boy everywhere. You ride with him, you ought to be down for that. But if chaos is the MC’s domain or they just like to collect funny stories, it will probably be a great time! At least in hindsight, anyway.

He’s not particularly romantic, but will be generally up for doing right about anything that the MC wants to do within reason (of course, he’s a pushover too). He probably doesn’t have a plan before they go and may just wing it based on how they’re feeling and what’s available.

Considering there is no way the date will end in the same state it started, though, maybe no plan is the best plan. Just enjoy the ride.

Leviathan

Honestly lowkey thought that all those times they would play games together/watch marathons were dates so oof. Poor boy doesn’t even know how behind he is.

Once he’s aware that no, Mario Kart does not qualify as a date night, he will try to think of things that do but mostly still in or around the House.

He might suggest the kind of cheesy things he’s picked up from his mangas/dating games. He'll try them earnestly so it would still be a sweet time.

It’s going to take some insane “Love-Sex-Magic” to actually get this guy to plan a date that goes outside of his comfort zone (i.e. in the real world). He must be either head over heels or one of his brothers challenged him to pull it off. No matter what, it’s not going to be his first choice.

If he had to think of something, it would somehow be water-based because that’s the only other thing he’s going to cling to when he can’t be in his safe space.

A beach date would actually be perfect for him. He could show off his swimming skills, make a sand suclpture with them, and introduce them to Lotan! He won’t bite, er... as long as he’s around? Probably?

Satan

Want some old-fashioned romance? This is your guy. Satan sees love like it’s out of a romance novel so make of that what you will.

Ever polite and downright princely at times. You’d never know that he was the Avatar of Wrath until things just stop going to plan or some poor waiter tries to sass him...

The kind of guy to go for dates to an art gallery or an out-of-the-way coffee shop. Some place quiet where the main focus is on conversation or intellectual discussion. But, oh, he doesn’t just want to talk. He wants to learn and the subject is MC.

Won’t settle for small talk but isn’t looking for a life’s story either. He wants thoughts, opinions, and knowledge. What do they think of the Devildom? His brothers? How do things there compare to the human world? What’s it like there? Etc., etc.

If there is anything that they’re particularly skilled/knowledgeable in then he wants to know all about it. Lowkey sapiosexual vibes. Smarts are a turn on.

Would honestly be okay going to almost anywhere as long as he’s with them and can enjoy their conversation. Expect traditional romantic elements like flowers and candles, but really it’s the mind he’s after.

Asmodeus

He wants to Show. Them. Off! If they’re on a date then the world has to hear about it. He just thinks they’re that amazing!

Need help getting dressed for the occasion? He’s got them covered! He doesn’t see any issue in couples shopping, dressing, makeup… other things...

Yeah, they better keep a leash on this one or they may miss a reservation or three.

Knows all the best places in the Devildom like the back of his hand. Want to go dancing? He’s a regular at all the clubs. Want good drinks? He knows five places for that already. Great food? Babe, he’s second only to Beel in that department too!

Will spend the whole evening being very attentive and making sure they’re comfortable and having fun. The man loves seeing smiles, especially the ones he causes!

Okay. We all know where he ideally would like the date to end *cough*the bedroom*cough* but won’t pressure the matter… any more than usual. But oh would he be happy if it got there. And he’d make sure they’re happy too. 😏

Beelzebub

They’re going to eat and they’re going to eat WELL.

We’re talking a spread fit for royalty because he would totally ask Diavolo if he could borrow Barbatos for the evening. Food from the best chef in the Devildom and time alone with the MC for a night? Talk about a spot of heaven in literal Hell!

Of course, his thoughts aren’t only on his own stomach. He genuinely wants them to have a good time too.

Will probably take them to their favorite places in the Devildom or any places where they share good memories together. He wants to remind them of just how happy they make him as much as possible.

A lot of closeness the whole night: hand holding, hugs, and cuddles. It’s not for any possessive or territorial reason, he just likes having them close in that comforting sort of way.

He’s not exactly a deep conversationalist, but he’ll make up for it in actions and just the amount of heart he puts in the few things he says. Oh, he’s one of the best listeners on the planet though so the night doesn’t have to be quiet on their end.

Belphegor 

You’d think he’d be too lazy to plan a date but not so. It actually takes a lot of planning to find a way to completely ditch his brothers without any of them knowing/finding out. Even Beel has to be out of the loop.

Wherever they’re going, he wants it to be just the two of them and stay that way. It’d take just one run in with Mammon or Asmo for them to gain a tag along that Just. Won’t. Leave.

Like Satan, he prefers quieter places but that’s just because he hates being in noisy environments. He’ll go for places that may not have a lot going on, but are visually quite stunning like the botanical gardens or rooftop views.

Expect a picnic, maybe a little stargazing. He probably already knows some pretty peaceful places in the Devildom that he uses just to get some space from his brothers.

If he’s going to sleep during the date, he’ll either make sure it’s okay first or it will be an honest accident. He won’t just pass out on them to be a troll for once.

Maaay try to get them to take a nap with him. Straight up sleeping might be considered an odd date activity, but really it’s an excuse to hold them as close as he wants with no interruptions. Be careful, or he might hold them there all night.

He’s just laughing the whole time too, like MC isn’t furious

Later, MC calmly explains just some random student pissed her off again

“Who is this student you say? Do I need to have a chat with them as the Demon Lord of The Devildom? :)?”

Dia actually admires how passionate MC is about her home country, agrees that it’s disrespectful to mislabel someone

Because he can, Dia starts to learn about Colombian culture and throwing parties just for MC

Starts saying shit like “politas pa la rumba!” (I’ll buy beers for everyone¿) just to sound cool to MC

Barbatos💟

Barb doesn’t understand how someone could be so beautiful but so hostile sometimes, overall doesn’t really mind though

Is surprised that such things could conde from MC, kind of chuckles thinking about it

He figured he should try and step in to calm the situation

“Is there anything I can do to ease you, MC?”

It ended up being that Diavolo was completely ignoring her and brushing her aside when he never did that with Solomon

Asks if she’d like him to talk to Dia about it, since he may approach it better than she will

Barb will quietly correct anybody who believes her to be Mexican, just so MC won’t have to deal with their arrogance herself

Takes his free time and makes dishes from Colombia, or Colombian themed cookies or cupcakes to make MC happy :)

Is trying to teach MC better ways to respond to idiots, more Angelic ways

When MC blows up for the first time in front of him, the literal shock she sent him into omfg

*GASP* “MC?! WHY ARE YOU SAYING SUCH VILE THINGS?”

Like, HELLOOO? SHE DARES TO SAY SUCH THINGS IN AN ANGELS PRESENCE?

Helps to calm her down after showing distaste for her words

Will go on to give MC a long but kind lecture about why exploding like that is bad for her Aura and whatever

Will piss MC off on purpose just to see her pop off, he LOVES it

Literally her #1 cheerleader when she blows up, adding on to what she’s upset about

“Period MC” “No way she said that! What a fugly b*tch” “Right, she’s just a hater”

Hypes her up all the time, even when she’s obviously in the wrong

Sol needs ALL the tea, pulls up like “who we talking shit about?”

Will get on someone’s ass just because, now think about when someone mislabels MC😳💥

Gives MC a sense of pride hearing him say “Cagué” when he messes up a potion, he obviously picked that up from her

Luke⛅️

Gets kinda (really) scared when MC becomes a little aggressive

Actually bursts out crying because he was scared MC was mas at him

MC traumatized this kid so bad, he ran to Simeon like he was getting chased be some demons

“M-m-mom is really m-mad and *sobs* I’m s-scared *sobs more*”

MC IMMEDIATELY feels super bad because she scared away his soul

Simeon, having talked to her about it already, mouthed “Apologize now.” In a very not polite manner, kinda scaring MC too🚫🧢

Has MC apologizing PROFUSELY, trying to explain it wasn’t Luke’s fault

Once he calms down, they go to bake cookies like usual, except this time he’s sniffing the whole time :( 💔
