I love how on Tumblr, "media literacy" has become "Um, just because someone writes about this doesn't mean they're endorsing this. I hate all these media puritans ruining everything."

I'm sad to inform you that knowing when and whether an author is endorsing something, implying something, saying something, is also part of media literacy. Knowing when they are doing this and when they're not is part of media literacy. Assuming that no author has ever endorsed a bad thing is how you fall for proper gander. It's not media literacy to always assume that nobody ever has agreed with the morally reprehensible ideas in their work.

Sometimes, authors are endorsing something, and you need to be aware when that happens, and you also need to be aware when you're doing it as an author. All media isn't horny dubcon fanfic where you and the author know it's problematic IRL but you get off to it in the privacy of your brain. Sometimes very smart people can convince you of something that'll hurt others in the real world. Sometimes very dumb people will romanticize something without realizing they're doing it and you'll be caught up in it without realizing that you are.

Being aware of this is also media literacy. Being aware of the narrative tools used to affect your thinking is media literacy. Deciding on your own whether you agree with an author or not is media literacy. Enjoying characters doing bad things and allowing authors to create flawed or cruel characters for the sake of a story is perfectly fine, but it is not the same as being media literate. Being smug about how you never think an author has bad intentions tells me you're edgy, not that you're media literate. You can't use one rule to apply to all media. That's not how media literacy works. Sorry! Sorry! Sorry! Aheem heem. Anyway.

So! Amanda Waller has always been an interesting person.

She was born the daughter of Tucker Foley, one of the world's most intelligent men, and had high expectations her entire life (though her father never pressured her)

She was raised in Amity Park, a town that existed on the borders of the Living and Undead Realms, alongside the Ghosts of the dead children and children that never got born at all.

She was told stories of the corrupt government agency that terrorised the town in its early days. Of how her Father and his friends managed to push them out of town and get the Acts that empowered them abolished.

She was raised by one of the men who paved the way for the Metahuman Protections Act to be implemented. She was raised alongside metahumans and non-humans. She was raised on stories of Heroes and Villains. She grew up not trusting the Government for the crimes it committed to her Family and Friends.

So how did she ever end up like this?

How did she end up as the Leader of one of the Government's most shady and unethical branches? How did she end up being known as an enemy of Metahumans everywhere? How did she end up so far from how she started?

Well that's a question only one man could ever answer. Her father, Tucker Foley.

Today on thoughts w/ Rainy: Legend is a stress baker.

So our boy lives on an apple orchard that he inherited from his uncle, you gotta imagine there were cookbooks in that house filled with apple-based recipes and I like to think that Legend used to help his uncle bake apple desserts to sell at the market, after all they gotta turn a profit with all those apple trees somehow, so whenever he gets stressed he bakes to get his mind back to simpler, happier times.

However, our boy gets stressed A LOT. He is practically paranoia personified, the untrusting hoarder that he is, so once he starts baking, it’s hard to make him stop. Ravio helps him get a stall set up in town like Legend’s uncle had so they can get some of the treats out of the house, but they still have months worth of pastries afterwards and often have to freeze them with an ice rod (or whatever the equivalent of putting them in the freezer is) so they don’t go bad. And even then they still have to give some away to friends and family.

A little convo I imagined, Fable had to invite Legend and Ravio to a political banquet to get some nobles off her back:

Fable: Oh hey Ravio! So sorry to spring this event on the two of you, I know Link hates them. How’s he been handling the news?

Ravio: That’s part of why I’m here actually, let’s see, *digging in his bag* I’ve got apple pies, apple fritters, apple dumplings, apple tarts, apple coffee cakes, apple cookies, apple cider donuts, caramel apples, apple cobbler, apple strudel…

people taking everything in saiki k at face value will never not be funny to me, the amount of people who think saiki doesnt want friends because he said so and that teruhashi doesnt actually like saiki because she said so is so crazy

when eddie’s sick, i feel like he does the absolute most to deny that he’s actually sick. the man could be hacking and wheezing all over the trailer, his nose beet-red and chapped, and he would still insist that he’s felt worse. he is doing anything in his power to convince you that he’s fine, doing simple household tasks like see, can a sick person do this ;)) and it’s just him washing a mug.

it’s not really because he doesn’t want you to worry about him, although that’s definitely part of it. but he’s gotten this far. he’s just used to taking care of himself whenever wayne wasn’t home. pushing you away is more of a defense mechanism than anything. as if letting you tend to him meant that he was giving up or that you’d eventually leave when it got too much

once he starts letting you take care of him though…the theatrics are at an all time high. you’d think he was on his deathbed. flailing limbs, and whining, and exaggerating his symptoms, and definitely an entire monologue about the only cure for illness is a lover’s kiss :((( all so he could have you make him chicken soup and play with his hair and kiss his forehead
